Interactions with other PC's:

Grumbling, Hylli had to blink several times. But even then it was hard to throw off the drowsiness of sleep. It was quite early in the morning, only a sliver of light blue barely noticeable at the horizon. With the mountains to their east, it was cold due to the absence of the rays of the sun.
Her travelling cloak wrapped around her Hylli sat next to the few other men. She shared a tent with four others. Much like her, they were part of the same platoon and whatnot.
At first, these men didn't seem to care or include Hylli into anything. They made crude jokes and did what men enjoyed - including inviting various camp followers to the tent. Which often resulted in a lack of sleep.
Only for the mornings and noons to exist out of either training or assigned tasks.
And neither were taken lightly, she had learned.

The lieutenant, Meilin Cho oversaw the training of the platoon. Someone that Hylli reckoned was around the same age. Their lieutenant was strict but not cruel. Much other than that Hylli hadn't figured out yet. At least, it beat the image of a trainer yelling obscenities at them and threatening to flog for every failure.
During the training, it was either a unit training. It was repeating and falling into formations and doing formation manoeuvring and the like. At first, Hylli didn't feel comfortable with it. She had the idea that a shinobi wasn't a soldier. That the shinobi potential was wasted by being placed among 'normal' soldiers.
But it slowly dawned on her how the system worked. What thought was given behind it. And how it was meant to provide versatility as protection, to both the soldiers and shinobi operating in the same unit. That and wearing better protection sure did beat the hell out of wearing something that couldn't stop a bodkin arrow.

What Hylli truly enjoyed was when the sergeants and lieutenant would give instructions, tips and tricks. Learning how to fight with a shield was interesting. And much to Hylli's joy, she wasn't the worst at it.
The sword and axe? Hylli struggled more with that. She was used to fighting with her knives, liking the flexibility as rapid pace she could wield them with. The axe was utterly different. Its movements requiring another mindset, different motions to be effective. The sword seemed similar, at first. Just a longer knife but the methods were different.
And as such, Hylli found herself often at her bottoms during the training with her squad.
The four men that she shared a tent with did enjoy putting the Hyuzu on her rear. Hylli continued her attempts, several times close to managing to hold her own against her tent-mates.
As the days passed by slowly, Hylli came to learn more about her four tent-mates.

There was Dagr of Aegir. A simple man, only seven or eight years older than Hylli. He was as every rough and robust as the other men. But he was silent, only ever revealing that he hailed from the jarldom of Aegir. Nothing more was known about his history. If anything, Dagr seemed to be the only one not to invite camp followers into the tent. Yet, Hylli noticed that none of the other men joked about it - either out of fear or respect, perhaps both.
Gorm? Gorm was much like Dagr also a Cho. Hailing from a village, from the northern reaches of the Cho heartlands, Gorm's knowledge regarding Taika and other clans seemed to be the best among the four. Hylli would be most curious if half of it weren't exaggerated by Gorm's imaginations and jokes. Yet, at the dark of the evenings, it was pleasant to listen and laugh at his stories.
The third was Halfdan. However, considered a Cho by others, his true heritage being that of Vanguri. The fact that Halfdan was most prideful for. Although none ever have seen Halfdan ride a horse before.
The fourth and final? Leif, which was considered a Cho. However, he had an interesting accent, which made Hylli wonder if he had some Taika ancestry or upbringing. Sometimes it was used to joke and poke at Leif. But the man was most keen to prove himself a most competent combatant - often ending in clashes and brawls with either Halfdan or Gorm, but always ending in drinking and camaraderie.

During the times that Hylli wasn't occupied with assigned tasks or training, she was found on the training field.
Ever since her hunting with Kazumo, she had decided to use her free time to train and try to get used to the bow. It wasn't a weapon that her unit used or she would be using in any imminent missions or fights. But it provided a way to kill time and allow her to enjoy the rather rigid but straightforward life she was facing now.
At first, she had imagined that using a bow was simple. Just get that wooden weapon, string it up and shoot a few arrows. Nothing easier than that.
But as she started to observe some other units train in archery as managing to join them on several occasions, Hylli started to understand and respect the complexity that the archer had to realise as use.
Yet, there were different kinds of bows. The most prominent that the soldiers of the 11th used were the longbows. Rather tall and imposing weapons that could endure damp weather, in contrast, that the composite variants failed at - due to the glue that held the composite bows together.
But Hylli didn't see herself wielding the longbow on any mission or fight. Much rather than that, she considered after some theory given by various experts, to use another specific bow - the recurve.
Smaller in design and has its pros as cons, Hylli started.

At first, she found it unwieldy. The whole method of using the weapon was obscure to her. Stabbing, hewing, slicing and dicing with knives was easy. To hold the weight at the handle, guiding the steel through the journey of its motion. It was something that allowed her to remain in firm control.
With the bow? She lacked that control. Once released, she had no way of pulling the arrow back. To make the arrow go into another course as she could with a knife held in her hands.
It also required more knowledge. There wasn't just one type of arrow that could be used against everything. The experts told her that there were typically three kinds of arrows.
The first was the broadhead. A type of arrowhead that was meant to work best against soft targets, like cloth, hide and leather - but worked rather well on scale armour if it could penetrate between its gaps.
Another was the needle head, working efficiently against the likes of chainmail due to being able to work better against the structure of chainmail-like armour.
The last type that Hylli was introduced during her training was the kind that was used to hard surfaces, usually the plate of plated maille or coat of plates, lamellar and such. Though not always having a hundred procent chance to penetrate and harm a wearer, the knowledge was good to have - in Hylli's opinion. And once more bolstering her believe that it was most beneficial to be granted a place among the soldiers, gaining a protective kit.

It had been something that caught her mind. After one of the platoon's drilling and training, Hylli had caught wind of the Guardians. An organization that had already once had been uttered before. During her time at the Academy, Hylli had heard that the Guardians were one of the royal guard regiments. A unit of grand prestige - if often overlooked by many due to the more prominent Sworn Swords or Tiger Claws.
Nonetheless, what attracted Hylli's curiosity the most was upon hearing the name of its leader. Captain-commander Hayate Hyuzu. The younger brother of Jora Hyuzu, current Lord of Clan Hyuzu.
Discovering through interactions with her tent-mates Hylli learned that the Guardians were at the encampment. It was of short interest for Hylli's tentmates. Their attention was quickly back to other matters.
Yet, it refused to leave Hylli's mind.

Her history with Hayate wasn't extensive. She wasn't even sure if he could recall her name. But their families had a bond, after all. Not just because they belonged to the same clan. But, as per example, her oldest brother served as a member of the Dragon Guard. Thus being relatively close and serving Hayate's older brother.
What further sparked Hylli was the fact that Hayate could very well be the only person on the entire eastern continent that was able to help her, with her metal release.
The only hurdle was: she wasn't sure how to get into contact with the captain-commander of the Guardians. The difference in rank as social class was significant, in the least. Too big that she couldn't just go over and enter his tent without getting worked down to the ground by Hayate's security detail.

On one afternoon after a rough and exhausting training, Hylli decided to risk it. She would attempt to bring a request over, to arrange if she could come to meet Hayate - if the latter was able and willing.
Being told that the message would be delivered Hylli decided to leave. She would have time to check later what the answer would be.

"What does the sign on an out-of-business brothel say?"
Gorm asked a shit-eating grin spread over his lips as he kept his cloak around him - in an attempt to fend off the night's cold.
Hylli didn't respond as she had joined the men at their small campfire. She had first frowned at the jokes but seeing that they treated her with a modicum of respect and friendliness, she had decided to not frown upon their antics.
"Beat it. We are closed."
Gorm's revelation caused the men to snort and chuckle loud laughter away, as their wooden spoons scrapped the bottom of their bowls.
"What does one saggy boob say to the other saggy boob?"
Hylli continued to enjoy her food, a subtle glance thrown at the three other men as they considered various answers to Gorm's question. Eventually, once more, Gorm revealed what the correct answer was.
"If we don't get some support, people will think we're nuts."
Shaking her head lightly, Hylli couldn't help but suppress a laugh herself.

"Ah, look who is finally enjoying one of mine!" Gorm said upon detecting Hylli's chuckle. "Well, princess, how about you tell one?" Gorm challenged her, with his grin still present - even growing, if Hylli wasn't mistaken.
Chewing on a bit of her supper the Hyuzu considered some jokes. She wasn't ever much exposed to them. Her family was somewhat decent. Then she recalled what kind of dumb jokes her brothers used to tell each other. Not to mention the grumbling of her mother as aunts during their meetings.
" What do you call the useless piece of skin on a penis?"
The question seemed to take the men by surprise, who hadn't expected the young woman actually to follow up. This allowed Hylli a moment to already prepare her answer.
Shaking her head at the answers, she decided to reveal it before the joke would lose its momentum.
" The man," Hylli proudly stated, a smirk flowing on her features. Only to be met with a second of silence. Which instantly worried Hylli that she might have been too insulting.
Then the men broke out in laughter. Gorm commended her briefly before he picked up where he had left, telling about a funny story about three men entering a tavern and only one leaving.
Releasing a mental sigh, Hylli couldn't help but feel a bit relieved. Perhaps, things weren't so bad, after all...

[After Training Bonding]

@SilverPaw & @BlueFlameNikku

Well after Neime had dismissed Sugi and Sana for the day, the two walked down the bustling streets together. Sugi would occasionally wave and hollar a greeting at a few passersby. Each were clearly fishman of some sort, likely heading further into the city to purchase essentials they didn't have readily available by the sea. Not long after this Sugi felt his stomach growl. "Ahhh...I didn't think sparring against Neime senpai would make me this hungry." He'd think for a few moments before looking over at Sana with a casual nature about him. "If you're hungry too Sana, I know a good seafood place in my neighborhood. It shouldn't be too out of your way and even if it was it'd be worth it. Mr. Izumi makes a mean fried cod and I bet he'd even give you a discount." Truth be told Mr. Izumi has been on Sugi's case more than anyone else in regards to making friends and dating, like an overly nosey uncle.

Sana had planned to head straight home, walking by Sugi's side simply because they seemed to be heading in the same direction. She mulled over the invitation for a moment. Since she still sharply recalled her previous boss's recommendation to form bonds, she did end up accepting the invitation. "Lunch sounds good," she replied, a bit more casually now that it was just the two of them. "I'll take you on your recommendation, then," she added, thinking that a discount would be nice. As they walked, it became more and more obvious the sheer number of people Sugishimo was acquainted with. "You know so many of the locals," she marveled, honestly surprised. She didn't think being so outgoing was common. Especially not when there was such an age difference; Sugi was young but all the people he greeted so fondly were frankly old.

Sana's acceptance to his invitation put a smile on the young man's face. A smile that would continue to hold up as numerous shop owners and elderly within the neighborhood greeted Sugi on the way. They were all acting a bit oddly though. Most of them were a bit more vocal than usual and had odd goofy smiles on their faces. Though the genin couldn't hold back a chuckle at Sana's response to it all. "I never really hung out with anyone from the academy, so I tended to just help out around here. Oh hey, that's the place."

Sugi said gesturing to what looked like a simple food stall, only it had a fish stand clearly attached to it on one side with an aged woman attending it. After jogging up to the stand presumably with Sana in tow, he'd give a quick bow to the woman. "Afternoon Mrs. Izumi!" The woman let out a breathy giggle. "Oh my, hello Sugi dearie." She parted some grey hairs away from her scrunched up wrinkled face. "Oh, and who might this be?" She asked with a warm smile directed at Sana.

"Sana Hirai, Sugishimo's new teammate," the genin introduced herself with a polite bow.

"Oh my, you look so beautiful Sana. It's so good to see young Sugi making friends. Pick out any fish here in the stall and my husband will cook it up however you want." The woman would look over to Sugi. "I'll have him whip up your usual dearie." "Thanks as always Mrs.Izumi."

"Thank you, Mrs.," Sana replied, both in response to the compliment as well as the offer of free fish. "I was told cod is especially good fried, which is what I should like to try," she said, directing a curt but grateful nod at the woman.

Once after Sana placed her order Sugi would lead her past the blue cloth coverings of the booth only to be greeted by the loud smack of a hand hitting the countertop. "SUGI!!!" An old skinny bald headed man with a white cloth tied tightly around his head leaned over the counter face to face with the boy. "HOW DARE YOU COME HERE WITH A LOVELY YOUNG LADY AND NOT WARN ME FIRST!!!" Sugi staggered backward nearly smashing his head on one of the back walls. "What the hell has gotten into you old man!?" "You've got some nerve boy, I'm still in my early seventies!" Mr. Izumi stated while rolling up one of his sleeves in an aggressive manner. He'd then turn to Sana with a gentle expression before speaking ever so politely. "Welcome miss Sana, please have a seat. You too boy!" He'd say before turning around to begin cooking their meals.

"Thank you, sir," she replied just as courteously. She had been surprised at the old man's boisterousness, but had managed to keep a mildly inquisitive expression throughout his yelling rather than a rudely doubtful one. Though she did indeed have a question or two, not that she'd express them in front of the proprietor. She was also considering defending Sugishimo on the basis of a feeling of obligation, however before she could even think to say that her teammate couldn't have warned Mr. Izumi of her visit, the chef had already turned around to prepare their food. Still confused at such an explosive yet warm reception, Sana picked an empty seat to perch on, and carefully set her sword next to it.

Sugi would take his seat on one of the stools next to wherever Sana chose. "What the heck's up with him today?"

"They seem very excited. Haven't you ever brought an acquaintance here?" she wondered. Based on what Mrs. Izumi had said, Sana did not think so, but still asked just in case. But there was also what Sugi himself had said earlier, so… "But I suppose since you didn't mingle with anyone at the academy, you wouldn't have," she contemplated. "We might be similar in that regard...though I didn't ever get to know my neighbours that well," she added.

Sugi leaned on the counter before turning his head in Sana's direction for a moment as she spoke but then turned back to look down at the counter. He had a saddened smile on his face, somewhat concealed by his bandana. He contemplated his words for a moment before speaking. "I owe a lot to people like Mr. and Mrs. Izumi. My neighbors showed me that there are people in this world that you can trust and will return your kindness." Sugi's smile would fade away as he continued. "It ain't like I didn't try to make friends with anyone at the academy though. Each and everyone of them was untrustworthy, always failing my tests time and time again; even the simplest of things. I don't need people in my life that I can't trust." He said each word bluntly and honestly. "Some people give away their trust so easily...it's repulsive if you ask me."

After all that the genin would sit back up in his seat and turn back to Sana with a more uplifted look on his face. "So, how come you didn't mingle much at the academy? Bet the guys never left you alone." At this a loud metal clanking sound could be heard from the kitchen as Mr. Izumi slammed something metallic before getting back to cooking. Sugi wouldn't flinch but his eyes would dart over, glaring at Mr. Izumi for a moment.

"Hm, I see. I don't know why you'd bother with anyone at the academy. It isn't as if they matter until they become your teammates," Sana answered frankly. "What did you even test them on though?" she asked, amused at the idea. It sounded like a lot of trouble to go to, especially since Sugi claimed he didn't want to give his trust away too easily - though if that was the case, Sana didn't know why he'd seeked opportunities to do so. She supposed he must have been lonely and didn't get from his family what she did from hers.

"Trust is comforting in a way, so some are keen to seek it. But it is also a prerequisite for a team for function. If you can't rely on someone to have your back, there's no way to cooperate with them. Having similar priorities helps with that too," she explained. There was a brief lull in the conversation before Sugishimo asked her another question. "Well, I honestly didn't feel like it. Some guys - and girls too - bothered me at first, but they soon learned not to," Sana told him. "And it's not as if I never talked to anyone, but training has always been my primary concern," she added with a light shrug. She knew some had considered her a cold bitch for it, while others had envied her or found her odd or admired her, but she had never put any mind to those opinions.

Sugi was more quick to respond in the conversation this time around. "My parents told me to try and make friends at the academy, that whole thing." He said blankly before continuing on to answer Sana's questions. "I'd simply spy on them during and after academy hours. If I caught them doing something that betrayed the trust I gave them...the acquaintance would end and they'd be punished. An eraser falling on their head as they walk into class or glue applied to their outdoor sandals. I'd subject the real scum to genjutsu. At some point I just saw it as another kinda training."

The genin was happy to hear that his peer had some similar viewpoints on trust. Her answer left perplexed for a moment. Guys and girls both bothered her it seemed, but didn't care much for it. "Guess we are similar in that regard as well. After a while the whole academy knew about my antics, so I got a cold reputation among them as well." Sugi'd crack a smile at Sana. "Doubt anyone envied or admired me though. If anything, by the end of graduation there were a few of em that were scared of me." Lots of steam and sizzling could be seen and heard from the kitchen as the two genin's meals were likely coming close to finishing. "So, you didn't hang out with anyone at all?"

"Besides my family? Not much," Sana replied. She wasn't sure what to think of Sugi's spying, tests, or punishments - besides that it was quite elaborate - so dismissed it from thought for now. "Nevermind that, though, I actually had a question for you. That notebook of yours, what kind of things do you keep in it? And does it help writing it all down?"

Sugi blinked at the questions regarding his notebook. Without much hesitation the genin would retrieve it and pass the little booklet to his teammate. Within would contain a list of names, students at the academy. Many of the names were crossed out and had lines of notes under each one. Habits and traits of the various students were listed along with their reason for failing one of Sugi's tests followed by the incurred punishment. Many of which as Sugi stated were minor pranks. More severe cases involving genjutsu or more cruel pranks were written in detail. Amidst these notes rested plenty of quotations Sugi had written down from people who lived in his neighborhood. Further into the book there was detailed progress of Sugi's own self training along with a few strategies which ends with the notes he took today after the team spar.

"It kinda helps keep me stay organized and up to date on the day to day. It does help me remember stuff and if I ever do forget, I probably have it written in there."

Sana accepted the notebook, and leafed through it, merely glancing at some notes while thoroughly reading those that piqued her curiosity. "This is so detailed," she praised in a murmur. "I'm sure it's very useful," she said, once she was done with it, closing the journal, and handing it back. "You should continue doing this. Though if it's something an enemy could steal and use, better write it in code," she suggested. "Oh, and thanks a lot for letting me see it. Seren wouldn't ever let me get a peek into her diary," she smirked, though soon regained a more serious expression. "Not that this is the same. But it is still personal and important, right?" she asked, though it was more of a rhetorical question. "Like my sword is to me," she added, quieter.

Sugi chuckled at the quip about the person Sana mentioned, never letting her see her diary; probably a sibling. He thought about what she said about his notebook being something that an enemy could use though she suggested that he keep using the notebook but write in code from now onwards. He smiled at the thought as the gears in his head started to turn. "Code...yeah that'd do nicely. I could even come up with a system for use in our squad." The genin clearly looked forward to his latest little project. He had to agree that the notebook did hold some sentimental value to him. As he accepted his notebook back, Mr. Izumi returned with their two piping hot plates of food. "Alright you two, time to eat up." The old man said, placing down the food before the two. Though he spoke up again before turning and walking away. "Sugi, you better bring that senpai of yours around here sometime too, ya hear me?" The young man replied in a chipper tone after winking at Sana knowingly. "We plan to Mr. Izumi, thanks again for the food." The old man scoffed as he walked away. "Gaaaah! Just leave your money on the counter once you're done like usual. Oh, and as a first time deal your friend there's only gotta pay half the usual for her meal."

Sugi would start digging in though his eye would catch Sana's sword, remembering how she mentioned it a moment ago. "Ya know, you don't see a lot of genin with a full on sword like that. Why is your sword important to you?" He asked curiously but as respectfully as he could.

Sana nodded in thanks to Mr. Izumi as she received her food, and began to eat, slowly and contemplatively. It was good and she wanted to savor it. "It was my mother's. I barely have any memories of her, so…" she trailed off, shrugging as she continued eating. She wasn't sure how else to explain best the weapon's importance; it just made sense to her, and assumed it would to others too. As such, she simply continued eating, enjoying the meal and the environment.

The rest of their time together was spent in companionable silence. Once done, Sana thanked Mr. Izumi for the meal and Sugi for the invitation, paid, and left.

[ Nishi Hirashima | Republican Jounin | Leader of Team 11 ]
[ The Republic of Water | Kirigakure, the capital ]

The voyage had been long. Two weeks had passed before anyone on Nishi's team was greeted with the sight of the vast port of Kirigakure. The bustling activity of ships, labourers and all kinds of people was a significant change from the ship that Nishi's team used to travel back. The ambience of the docks and urban life was almost overwhelming, but what was certainly more noticeable: the tension.
It lingered around and seemed near tangible. From people whispering and exchanging rumours. To heralds who shouted from the top of their lungs, to announce messages towards the people. Or to deliver some vocal advertisement about a local establishment, who usually paid a decent amount to make the heralds do such a thing.
If anything, Nishi would disband her team and state that they could go home. Before they had embarked back towards Kirigakure, rumours had already reached them on the fringes of the Republican islands.

There was a new regime in power. A terrible blight struck a portion of Kirigakure. And on top; there was still not much known about the enemies that Team Nishi had faced.
Glad that they were back though, Nishi wondered what they were going to encounter. Heading to the station to debrief to her superiors, she managed to uncover more on what had happened.
Learning that the current regime had gained power by blood and fear wasn't a surprise. It seemed that the people of the archipelago nation couldn't imagine change without bloodshed - a sad fact but one that Nishi didn't linger on.
What did surprise her was the fact that there was some unknown blight. Only matters that seemed clear was that it involved something about crystals. Medicine seemed to be shared, but Nishi wondered: if people didn't know what they were dealing with, how were they sharing out medicines against it?

Once the matter had been dealt with, Nishi decided to return home. Walking through the streets of the capital city, it just dawned upon her that it seemed to be the case that works genuinely never ended. They had returned from defeating a host of enemy vessels. Only to experience that the capital city was undergoing tension, some riots and an unknown blight.
What a time to be alive.

[ Located in the middle of the large front against the power of Rong, an unit of Northerners is assembled. Underneath the leadership of Genji Hojo, a few Kumogakure shinobi set out to accomplish a rather dangerous goal. Which pits them directly against the agents of Rong, the notorious 'Red Cloaks'. ]

The Briefing

Awaiting for the others to meet at the meeting position, they had a simple enough goal as their objective. He had a small group to do the task given to them but it was simple in nature. Red cloaks that needed to be killed, wounds were a given but the main part was to pretty much avoid the locals as it was unclear if they were hostile or not. All simple enough, eliminate, no angering the locals, and return to base. He had some doubts from his previous working experience with some of the people tasked with him, he was confident on one performing to duty and another he hoped would be okay given the dangers involved. Obviously he hoped to get the drop on them and not vice versa, but he would go over that when the four arrived.

Niji found Genji upon her arrival at the meeting point, she was on time, if not early. A simple nod would be given for now, she had no desire to talk to him in any casual sense based off of his reactions to what she said during the last mission they were both on. Though she did see that currently she was the only other member of the team present, with luck it wouldn't take long for another to show up.

Heading to the meeting point, Kaya flexed her fingers. Cast in gloves, her fingers weren't that affected by the cold. Yet she couldn't help but get the itch out of them. With being assigned to a mission, Kaya wasn't sure what she was hoping for. Noticing that two were already present, Kaya increased her pace slightly.
"Kaya Irozaki, present," she said, giving a curt nod to both. She recognised them both from the previous interactions but hadn't really been able to get to know them. Flashing a smile briefly at the two, Kaya took a look around. Shifting her weight from leg to another, she wondered briefly if she could ask a question. Deciding against it, Kaya inhaled slowly and then rubbed her right arm.
"Damn this cold, am I right?"

Closing on the meeting point, Yumeji was garbed up for the mission. Opting to not go for the heavy armour that she usually favoured, she would still bring her signature shield with her. Once close enough, she gave a respectful nod to both Niji and Genji. The ghost of a smile dawned on Yumeji's lips as she winked at Kaya. Noticing that they were with four, Yumeji wondered if they were waiting for more or if they would be briefed in already. Seeing that she saw no soldiers being present, she reckoned that it would be a shinobi operation. Perhaps some reckon or favour for the nearby locals?
Having heard what Kaya said before, Yumeji decided to say something.
"It is kind of chilly, yeah," Yumeji replied, slightly amused if the small talk would continue about the cold.

Mizuchi was the last of the group to arrive, not particularly by her choice but she had woken up later than she had intended. Still, she was not much later than her sister to arrive at the meeting point for their small group. Seeing as they were in an area that potentially had locals, Mizuchi had opted not to go with her usual heavy armor as well. Instead she wore a lighter armor that provided a bit less protection but also allowed her a bit more mobility than typical. Although she hated wearing this lighter armor, as it felt as if she were going in unarmored to this fight. Still, she wasn't sure how locals would react to somebody in heavy armor coming by on them, and minimizing the chance of upsetting them sounded like a safe option.
Upon arriving at the meeting point, Mizuchi gave a respectful nod towards Genji, Kaya, and Nishi. Her sister, a nod and a small friendly smile. Though there was a small chuckle at the genin's comment about the cold, one which the Hojo found herself in agreement with. Some warmer weather would most certainly be welcome by now.

No reactions would come from Genji as the small group started to arrive, this was kept very low personnel due to risks they didn't wish to take. Only a small smile came at Kaya making a remark about the cold weather. With Yumeji replying to the genin. Several more minutes would pass as Genji seemed a bit annoyed and was about to speak when the Mizuchi would show up last. He would eye up the group with a chuckle.
"I see you all pack light. That's good cause today couldn't be any more simple of a task. Several miles north of here is about a dozen Red Cloaks, fairly skilled in combat based on some of us who fought them before. Now our goal? Eliminate them, nothing fancy about this. We are going to engage them and either capture or kill."

Genji started saying looking at the group to make sure they weren't confused for whatever reason. "Now we can try to get the drop on them and make it a bit easier on us. Yet we aren't to hinder too much, if they leave then it gets riskier."
He would then hold up his hand to halt any question before taking a more stern look.
"Locals are also reported to be near the area, under no circumstances are we to talk to the locals or even be on the outskirts of their homes. We don't know if they are hostile."

He would let that sink in before resuming. "If you do engage with the locals, do expect dire consequences. You could put everyone's lives in danger if they suddenly attack cause you approached them. Am I clear everyone?" Genji stated as he eyed the group wanting them to acknowledge that they understood what the orders were, also giving them a chance to ask any questions.

Listening to Genji, Yumeji had some thoughts on the current operation. Resting her left hand on the handle of her blade, she whistled softly. "Avoid the locals, that sounds not too hard. Though the enemy has the numbers on us?" She threw a sideways glance at Mizuchi, continuing to speak, "maybe we should employ some sensory and try to ambush our targets?"
Turning her attention back at Genji, another idea started to crop up in Yumeji's mind. One less desirable but her preferences weren't supposed to override the goal of the mission.
"Perhaps we can try to use one or two of us to lure them into a trap? A direct head-on fight will just result in a prolonged fight. And I don't think that will end well, no offense."

Yumeji's idea of setting a trap or baiting the enemies into giving them the upper hand was clever enough, even with limited numbers it had potential. "How high a priority is attempting capture of at least one of the Red Cloaks? And is there any kind of protocol in case they make contact with the locals, such as observation or falling back?" Niji felt they were simple enough questions, the enemy making contact with the locals had to be of some concern to the war effort, and in turn the higher ups.
While capture definitely had a chance of bearing fruit if they could get them to talk once any interrogation began.

Mizuchi nodded along with the assessment her sister gave. They were outnumbered, and their opponents were skilled. Things could very quickly turn against their favor, so luring them into a trap could be rather advantageous. Though she much prefered to engage in a straight fight, Mizuchi could not ignore the wisdom in Yumeji's assessment. "I think luring them into a trap might be our best bet, a prolonged fight could easily go against us." She said before considering something for a moment. "If they have any sensory types of their own, then using sensory would only alert them to our presence. We could use that to try to lure them into a trap, though we also run the risk they might simply choose to avoid us instead." She added, looking around the group quietly for a long moment.

The plan of an ambush didn't appeal much to Kaya. The genin also, however, didn't like the idea of a head-on fight. Understanding the fact that an ambush would be one of the best bet that they could get, it would also put some of them into danger. Thinking of something, Kaya threw a look at Genji.
"What about tricking them?" She began, the idea taking further shape in her mind. "A lot of the enemy got scattered during the last huge confrontation, right? We wouldn't likely be able to pose ourselves as redcloaks. But we could try to disguise ourselves as footsoldiers," she began to explain further, "this will perhaps prevent then from outright attacking those who set the ambush right away. Once they move in to communicate, we can spring the trap."

They had questions which were to be expected. Some of their inputs better than others yet he gauged that from past experiences with some of them. "Well I also agree that getting the drop on them is preferable. I aint just throwing you all head first into the fuckers. Hence why we are figuring this out now instead of there. Cause once we head out, we are to operate quickly and effectively so they DON'T…. Go to the locals." Genji said looking at them all before moving on to answer the next input.
"Capture isn't a huge priority but it would certainly help to get more info if we did capture at least one. If you can't you can't though. Sensory is an option sure, but these are Red Cloaks. More skilled than a squint for sure. They could very well be using their own sensory which is the tricky part cause if they are already doing such, then an ambush may not work in the simple fact of simply luring them in. However posing as squints may just work for the ones performing the ambush. Good idea Private Kaya. So I propose the following by going off that suggestion."

Genji paused to make sure they were still listening, his gaze lingering on a couple of them before resuming. "Two of us who act as bait will obviously be in the more dangerous position. So I will be one of the two being bait. I want Sergeant Yumeji to be the one leading the ambush. I trust your judgement on when to strike." He then looked at Kaya and had an apologetic smile on his face.
"Going to have to ask you to be on the bait force with me. Might encourage them to attack us if they see a one eyed man and a young girl. Might believe us to be easy pickings, maybe even try and capture us for their own interrogation."
Looking back at the rest he gave a nod. "Any other ideas or suggestions ladies? Cause once we start the operation, we aren't turning back."

Glad that Kaya's idea was taken, Yumeji wasn't too happy with the decision of Genji to take Kaya for the bait. Wanting to intervene, she realised how it would look like. Besides, Kaya had experienced rough fights before. And Yumeji didn't think that Genji was a pushover. Okay, only a little bit, she mused to herself.
"Then all that rests is a place where we can execute the plan and ambush," Yumeji said, glancing at Genji, "I can lead the ambush, no problem. I suppose that we need to just get you guys to look like squints and then get started. We will trail you guys from a comfortable distance. Not too close to be noticed right away but neither too far that you guys will have all the fun for yourselves."

Taking a second, Yumeji placed her hands at her hips. A soft sight escaped her lips.
"I suppose all that rest is that we get to our bloody business, eh?"

[ Neime Hayashi | Team Hayashi ]
[ Kirigakure | Capital of the Republic of Water ]

The training the other day had gone much better than Neime had anticipated. The surprise of being assigned another genin had made her worry that she wasn't going to be able to handle the task. Then again, she reckoned that she wouldn't be the mentor of two genin for too long. It was almost sure that the team was simply a temporary solution. A regular occurrence within the military, Neime mused to herself.
Despite not one to be quickly drawn to people, Neime had to admit that she did like the current team.
Both genin had some promise - judging all from the first session. And some flaws but Neime didn't focus on that. They were just genin, after all. It was too early to review the genin's weaknesses or strengths yet thoroughly. For that purpose, Neime would see how the genin were going to perform on the next training or mission.

There was the fact that she had made a promise. The genin had five months, and then they would challenge Neime once more, to try taking her sash. A somewhat entertaining idea, but was it going to be reasonable? Knowing from experience, five months could make a difference. But not only in skill and experience: but also if an operative was still able to draw breath.
Not to mention that the team could be integrated or changed. Perhaps over three months, Neime wasn't in any way able to let the genin challenge her?
It then dawned on Neime.
She was worried about two genin trying to bond with as challenge her.

Heading over to report that her team was ready, Neime was surprised. A mission was issued to the team.
Frowning, Neime wasn't sure what to think of the mission. On paper, it all sounded relatively easy. Their objectives were to travel to the Honey country, a vassal state of the Republic. Once arrived, they were to investigate and make various reports so that the brass could be updated on the situation there.
Something else that made Neime wonder about the wisdom of the said operation. If the brass wasn't aware of what was going on, why didn't they send a diplomatic envoy? Did they expect that two fresh genin would be of enough aid? Neime wasn't even sure if she could perform efficiently enough to be sent on such a mission. Her fortés weren't precisely on intel gathering or the kind.
While not arguing back as the briefing came to an end, Neime's concern and doubt didn't ebb away. For the mission, it didn't state that they were to return towards Kirigakure once their task was finished in the Honey. They were to continue travel towards the front, joining up with the Republican host participating in the campaign.

Neime didn't know much about what happened eastwards. But if she had to go by rumours? Quite some bad things. It had all the signs of a warzone. And that wasn't the place for two genin that had just left the Academy to prosper.
Leaving the complex, she would make preparations to have both Sugi as Sana informed that they had to pack for a long voyage and make sure that their last day with their parents as friends was well spent.
It was going to be a long time before they would head back...
Hell, if any of them was going back.
"Well, crap..."

[ Team Karuko | A collab between its respective members. ]
[ Being assigned a mission to work together with the elusive Shiranui, Karuko leads his team according to the guidelines of the mission. However, something seems to have thrown the jounin off. Causing him to assign some task to his genin while he goes to investigate something on his own. ]

Karuko looked as the streets remained empty. This early in the morning, there weren't an awful lot of people up and about, anyways. But there was usually also not the tangible tension that Karuko experienced.
Despite believing himself to be a competent combatant, experienced and knowledgable about various matters, he felt a cold shiver down his spine on the fact that they were to work with the Shiranui. The Republic's intelligence division, Shiranui, enjoyed the quite odd reputation. While it was renowned, there wasn't enough known that made it clear on how they operated behind the screens and in the shadows.

But what was known was enough to create a sort of silence, a near cultural refusal to talk or even acknowledge the Shiranui's existence unless one was forced to speak about them. Or in the worse cases: working with them.
Already wary that the genin didn't know much about the Shiranui, Karuko dreaded the possibility that the genin would somehow manage to piss off any Shiranui operatives. Which could lead to them all waking up the next morning in a cold, dark and damp cell.
Pocketing his hands away, to protect against the early morning cold, Karuko tried to move his thoughts away as he continued to wait at the rally point.

Heading to the rally point, Neime wasn't sure what to expect today. The last mission had ended in failure and it seemed only a miracle had prevented her to become infected with the crystal disease.
Closing in the distance, Neime already saw Karuko up ahead. Slowing down in speed, she would come to a halt. Providing a small bow, Neime would proceed to take a place as the others hadn't arrived yet.

Aito made his way to the rally point. The boy questioned his motivation to stay a shinobi as he walked. It had seemed his tasks were dead set on the difficult side of things. Each mission pushed his limits and he wondered if he was improving or just skirting by. He was lucky he hadn't been infected, though he still felt a bit uneasy thinking about it. Lost in thought his feet just moved him aimlessly to the point. The genin silently walked closer to the pair until he collided with Karuko. A thump was heard as he fell back, landing on his butt. Rubbing the back of his head and looking up, Aito grinned sheepishly. "Sorry Sensei.." He laughed a bit uncomfortably and stood up to his feet.

As the others were getting on their feet,Yuyuko herself shrugged as she headed towards the meeting point as the genin's tried to keep herself seeming as normal as she could be. The morning was not nice to her and with her worries on not being able to catch up with the chunin and jonin due to the failure of the last mission, she really wanted something to go well, esperically how in the bout with the assailant, Karuko was mostly carrying the weight while she at least her eyes was pretty much extra baggage. As she near the place, she put away her customary mask as out of habit as she got tired of the previous complaints of her mask from Karuko and Kukiko as she came over.
"Morning Sensei.'

Bashira had to admit she was a little upset about their last mission being a failure, but honestly it was a suicide mission to begin with. As she neared the meetup spot, she could already see the rest of her team there waiting for her. Bashira did her best to put any thoughts of their last mission out of her head, and plastered on a semi-real smile as she came to a stop in front of the group. "Hello," Bashira said, nodding to her teammates. "Sensei," she said, inclining her head, but nothing else. She was still a bit salty about the last time she met him.

With the genin making it to the rally point, Karuko shot them a look upon arrival. He would return their greeting with a mild response, just stating "mornin'" before once more seemingly waiting for something or someone.
A minute painfully crept past after the arrival of Bashira before Karuko would release a sigh and once more shoot a look at his pupils.
"Alright, you maggots, today is going to be one of those special days. I hope you all are at your best. Cause we are assigned to work alongside the Shiranui. For those that don't understand what that means, allow me to explain."
The features of Karuko showed a more serious expression, one that seemed to have little tolerance for jokes or the likes of stubborn behaviour.
"That means we are going to work with misses and misters that can do bad things. Locking you up for instance. Without even needing permission in the first place. And if you think I will protect you? You need to wake the damn up, cause there is no protection against the Shiranui. Got it? Follow the orders and you might both learn something. And even not gain their curiosity or attention in any form or shape."

Letting his warning sink in, Karuko continued. "Our goal is to try to find some clues and information about what happened before. Apparently there have been more sightings of this Terror. Whether you guys want it or not, we are assigned to provide some back-up. This isn't going to be a combat mission. But seeing we don't know where this Terror is, it is best to be cautious all time round. Any questions?"

As the jounin explained their mission Aito listened carefully. He had heard bits and pieces of the Shiranui but not much. It did get him out of his head for a moment as Karuko warned them what could happen. Who were these people and why did they have so much power? When he was asked if there were any questions he shook his head. "Understood." Giving a nod after, he looked at his team and wondered what they thought of the mission.

As Karuko was explaining the mission, Yuyuko tried her best to make sure she got all the details right though she did let out a sigh when Karuko reminded them of how no nonsense the Shiranui were. She had heard stories about them but on her part did not fancy having any business with them due to their reputation and rumors as she asked.
"Understood….ummm...Is there anything in particular we should take note of or be careful of so as to better help or not be in the way of the Shiranui? Just to be on the safe side." She asked cautiously.

The mission didn't appeal that much to Neime. Then again, she doubted that there was ever going to be a mission, any time soon, that she would enjoy a mission. Placing her hands on her hips, she continued to listen to the briefing. The fact they were going to interact and cooperate with the Shiranui didn't sit well with her. If anything, she would rather have another chance to tango with that masked opponent than to risk getting the attention of the Shiranui.
Nodding to emphasis that she understood the earnest of this mission, Neime awaited what would follow.

Bashira had heard very few things about the Shiranui, and everything she had heard about them was very intimidating. Shira took a steadying deep breath, and nodded as he continued to explain the objective. It was nice to know that their sensei wouldn't help them out if they were locked up, but honestly what did it matter? "Understood," Bashira finally said. She would keep a low profile, and follow orders. Hopefully, that would keep her from gaining any negative attention from the Shiranui and her teammates might not feel the need to protect her. Bashira still felt indebted to Yuyuko for looking out for her on their last mission, and the white-haired genin spared a small smile in Yuyuko's direction.

The genin didn't object or questioned the mission. Which was good, in Karuko's opinion. Not that they had any sway or say, at all. But it wasn't uncommon for genin to be loudmouths that whinged whenever they didn't understand a matter.
Just as Karuko wanted to instruct them on something, a messenger came running around the corner. Frowning as the messenger closed in, Karuko would simply nod as a small scroll was offered.
Upon taking and quickly reading the scroll, Karuko frowned but then nodded. "Neime, you are to follow that man. You are taken off this operation and team." The jounin casually stated. Changes could happen at the last minute and this wasn't a rarity for Karuko. "Rest of you maggots, fall in line and follow."

The jounin would start to walk towards where they were supposed to meet the operatives of the Shiranui. Luckily, the trek wouldn't require them to go to the other side of Kirigakure. Within a few minutes, they would reach the spot where a few agents of the Shiranui were questioning people. Despite the dull uniforms, there seemed a certain authorian aura around the Shiranui operatives. When the Shiranui agents spotted Karuko and the genin, they would finish their conversations with a few of the local denizens.

"Ah, yes, the shinobi team that was requested," one of the Shiranui operatives said. It was clear from his features that he was most likely double Karuko's age. Yet, not a subtle hint of fragility that came with old age. If anything, the man radiated more confidence as authority than five Karuko's.
"It is a shame that we couldn't request a more competent team. But you lot will suffice," the old man casually stated, throwing a glance as if the genin were nothing more but cattle that he could send to the slaughterhouse - at any given moment.
"There is a family living over there. From what we could gather, they may have some information on what happened in the quarantine district." An amused scoff followed. "If you lot can even handle a simple interrogation."

Karuko remained silent. Nodding once the Shiranui operative was done, he firmly directed the team to keep following in line. There was no expression or any body language that betrayed Karuko's thoughts or feelings upon the treatment the Shiranui gave them.
"We are going to do this as follows. Bashira, you go around. Scale the walls and take a spot upon the roof. Moment shit goes down and anyone runs? You stalk from high and wait for any of my commands. Aito, you stay outside. Watch anyone that passes by. The moment you sense something is off, you get your ass inside and report to me verbally. Start your sentence with the word 'shadow'," Karuko paused as he continued to step towards the house, "Yuyuko, you stay outside as well. If Aito goes inside, you stay outside to guard the entrance. I prefer not to be blocked inside a building. And for you all? Don't draw any weapon or weave any handsign unless I command so. Fucking Shiranui will have us hanged else before the sun settles..."

As they walked past the older man Aito simply rolled his eyes once out of sight. Listening and paying attention to Karuko he gave a simple nod. He made sure to memorize the word he was given as a key term to be said. No weapon or handsigns were to be drawn or used, noting that as he took his spot outside the home. He would do as he was told, even if he was a bit sour from the way they were treated by the Shiranui. He would have to prove them otherwise of the capability of shinobi forces, if that even were to happen. Standing still against the wall he kept himself alert as he tried to act more relaxed and natural. The last thing he would want is to bring attention for looking out of place and like a guard. He began to count the people who walked past, just so he wouldn't grow bored.

As the team got their first change, Yuyuko raised an eyebrow in surprise seeing Neime leaving the team as now it left Yuyuko the lone member after the transfer for her former two team-mates,one of them being Shion. Sure it would have happened eventually but it still annoyed her but she comforted herself in knowing that Bashira and Aito were in the same spot as her for better or worse as they continued on.
When she heard the comments of the Shiranui, she kept her mouth shut as she heard rumors of them from her father Masakage, granted they were little more than passing comments during his kenjutsu classes but she did not want to start testing those rumors at that point in time.
As Karuko directed the positions,Yuyuko nodded as she took her position keeping a watch. While keeping her eyes on the look out for Aito and Karuko, she decided to practice on her breathing to control her breaths remembering the words of her father from his training sessions.
While it was basic, it did help in both fights and controlling chakra to at least squeeze out abit more energy for optimal weapon strikes and chakra methods…..somewhat and also more importantly, was something she could do to without worry of ruining the mission due to being distracted.

Bashira kept her mouth shut as a messenger came and then again as Nieme was instructed to leave the mission as well as the team. It wasn't that she wasn't curious, but she didn't want to ask questions right now. Bashira was still trying to not draw negative attention, and prove that she deserved a spot on this team. She was still planning on asking Yuyuko to teach her some long distance attacks in order to made her more of use to the team. Her thought process was interrupted when an Shiranui operative started speaking and then insulted the team. She opened her mouth to say something, anything in disagreement, but noticed that Karuko-Sensei had kept his mouth shut, so she closed hers without saying anything. She followed in line until Sensei started speaking and giving orders. She listened as Karuko-Sensei gave them orders, nodding she turned and headed towards the wall. Bashira scaled the wall, with little difficulty and hoped unto the roof the building. She took in the entirety of the roof, and found her way to a good spot that allowed her to see a good distance around the house including her teammates who were stationed outside. Finally, she took a deep steading breath and made sure to remember that she was not to use any hand signs or weapons. "Time to prove yourself," she murmured to herself as she kept watch from above.

There was an ounce of worry that the genin were going to disagree, become rebellious or try to do anything. He had been a genin once as well or well more importantly: being young, inexperienced and reckless.
Yet, none of the genin challenged the Shiranui operative and commenced the tasks given to them. Slightly more comfortable, he would head inside.

Time slowly ticked by. People continued to cross the street without a single glance or worry about the two visible genin or anyone looking up to see if someone was on the roof. No, the civilians went passed and focused on their affairs.
Eventually, the door opened and Karuko walked outside. His thumbs hooked behind his belt as a frown was present on his brow.
"Round up, maggots," Karuko called out, waiting for Bashira to get down from the rooftop before he continued, "so I spoke with these people. They have some family stuck in the quarantine zone. But that is none of our concern or the issue. I want to figure something out. First, follow me," Karuko said as he already started to step towards the direction they came from.

"Also, watch your six. Chances are big that someone or more are watching us. Not the good kind either," Karuko explained after a bit, "a smaller team lost a valuable source of information. Their target got shot down in the throat before they could deliver said target."

Standing guard was slowly becoming a boring task as he watched people pass by. Of course he didn't want anything bad to spring up on them either but just standing there twiddling his thumbs wasn't the most exciting activity, When their leader emerged from the house, Aito began to follow as he listened to the man explain what he knew to them. This illness that was being quarantined seemed to affect anyone and everyone in many different ways. As he was told to watch his six he wondered if they or the family they just visited had any enemies. That a team had their target killed before anything could be further obtained. The genin was curious why he seemed to keep getting missions that dealt with murder and more severe situations. Had others who just become shinobi gone through just as much or more? Or was this just the norm for their job?

Yuyuko on her part looked on, keeping her eyes open and breathing steady as she soon saw Karuko give the team the sign it was safe to go over. With that, she relaxed her muscles slightly due to how tense she felt they were while standing guard but then again with how things were, the genin decided not to scold herself for causing her muscles to tense up unlike how she normally would, either by herself or her father as it was a sign of weakness and fear.
As Karuko began his drivel, Yuyuko listened carefully with her hand instinctively moving to the handle of Fuurai when he emphasized they were not watched by the good kind.
She then nodded in acknowledgement to Karuko to indicate she was listening and for him to indicate he may continue when ready.

Nothing out of the ordinary happened while Bashira was up on the roof, and finally after what felt like hours their Sensei emerged from the house. She heard their sensei call out to them, and watched as her other teammates circled up before she made her way down to them. She climbed down the fence easily enough, and landed with a soft thud as she walked over to her team. She frowned as Karuko dismissed the family in the quarantine, and shook her head slightly. Weren't they supposed to serve everyone in the city? It must be horrible for them to know their family was stuck somewhere without help. Bashira said nothing as she followed Karuko and glanced around as he warned them to keep an eye on their surroundings.

The team continued on their way, as Karuko did not deem it necessary to further enlighten the genin. Neither on where they were heading off towards or were going to do. Reaching the end of the street, Karuko took a sharp right. A frown had found its way towards the man's brow, indicating that something was on the man's mind.
In a fast pace, the jounin continued to lead the team towards a certain destination. Reaching a nearby plaza, space was filled up. Stands that sold common goods to bypassers, a few city guards that did their rounds - on the lookout for anything out of order. And the mass of people that went on about their affairs.
Nothing that seemed odd or giving a reason to worry.

"We start here," Karuko mumbled, at first. Then he turned to the genin that had followed his lead. "Bashira, you check the nearby rooftops. Check for anything that seems out of the ordinary. I am talking about tiles that have slipped due to movement or perhaps something left behind. Tools, weapons, pieces of cloth. Anything."
Karuko threw a sideways look at Atio. "You, Aito, going to try to see if something is off with the merchants of the stands. Talk to them. Be mindful to not appear suspicious or else they will close off towards you. Try to figure out if they have noticed anything. Something that has upset business or even improved. Or if one bastard has suddenly gotten more sales than others."
Finally, Karuko turned towards Yuyuko.
"You going to move around. There are bound to be some people of the neighbourhood. That either work in some workshops or establishments nearby. Or perhaps some ma's that decide to sit outside. Try to ask questions and figure out what they have seen."

The jounin threw a glance from where they had came from. His neck hairs started to rise.
"I need to talk to some people. Lets set this as a rally point. Each of you have around an hour or two to perform your investigation. If something goes down or someone goes missing? Then scatter and wait for my signal. Which will be an explosive tag going off into the air. That means a new rally point. Now move it."

Welcome home, such as it is

[ Republic of the Water Country | Kirigakure ]
[ Hikari Torimoto | Team 11 Genin ]

The mission was done, the vessel had fallen, and the seas were claimed in the name of the Republic once more. The sail back towards Kirigakure, while filled with rumours and much more, made the genin's mind run back to what Nishi had told them before, when they received the newer gear. There was some kind of change in the rulership, and some of the rumours that were going on only seemed to strengthen those suggestions. While she still didn't have any strong attachments to either one, she couldn't help but think of her father and grandfather. Every time in recent years that there was a change in the regime, it was incredibly bloody. Those kinds of thoughts made Hikari lose some sleep on the sail back.

When they finally docked in Kirigakure and dismissed, Hikari offered a bow towards Nishi before heading away, without giving either of her teammates any further attention. She had to get home quickly. She had to go and find out how things were at this point. Hikari was certain her mother would be fine, but after letting the worries run in her head for two weeks of sailing, she needed to learn what had happened to both of them.

It had taken her about twenty minutes before arriving at her home. It looked just the same as before. Untouched, compared to the somewhat deteriorating state of Kirigakure, with the strange crystal illness and the riots. Hikari was actually somewhat surprised. Entering, however, showed a different reality. The entry room was much more occupied, with several futons spread across and numerous people laying in them. None of them appeared to be sick, but the clothing of all of them seemed poor quality. Walking carefully between the futons, Hikari made her way to the kitchen, hearing sounds of cooking from the room.

"Dinner will be ready in a bit!" Kana called out, stirring a wooden spoon in a large pot. The smell wasn't the best, but it was a familiar smell for Hikari. Looking at her mother, she dropped her bag on the floor. The noise of the bag made Kana glance sideways, and then fully turn upon realizing who it was.
"Hikari." She whispered.

"I'm home mom." Hikari said, before walking forward and then firmly hugging Kana. It was comforting to be feeling her mother's embrace again. She actually had no idea if she would feel this embrace for a longer period of time than this. After a minute of silence between the two, they let go, and Kana just looked at her daughter for a moment more, before turning back to the pot on the stove. Hikari took a step back, giving her mom some space to continue cooking without having her movements be hindered by her.

"I imagine you must be wondering about all the people in the living room. They're residents that have their homes in the infected districts, and wanted to continue providing for their families without risking catching whatever that crystal sickness is." Kana was quick to explain. Hikari just nodded silently as Kana continued speaking "I wanted to offer more help, but the new regime is quite strict on who can go in and out of the district, and that doesn't seem to help much. So this was the next best thing I could think of. Those people all work in the docks, but their families are under the lock down. I know you just arrived, but could grab some bowls and help me hand out dinner? Then we could sit down and talk more properly."

"Okay mom." Hikari went and grabbed some of the soup bowls. It took them a few minutes to serve food for the people that were in the living room. It felt really crowded, with the futons in the not so spacious living space. Seven futons, all just stuck against each other, and then there another person on the couch. Hikari had a hard time imagining just what they were going through. To be separated from their families due to something they had no control over. Sure, she was deployed for a while, but she also wanted to enlist and understood it meant being away from home, from her family. They didn't choose to suddenly see their families forced into a quarantine just because they lived in the afflicted area.

Once all the people had received a bowl of soup, Hikari and Kana sat down with bowls of their own in the kitchen. Eating the soup, it had a rather mild and slightly salty taste to it. She knew her mom didn't have the best culinary skills, but she always made an effort. Looking at her mom, Hikari could see the concern reflecting in Kana's eyes "It feels like so much has happened since I was last here." Hikari spoke up, catching Kana's attention.

The older woman nodded "Because a lot has happened. First, there was this sickness that started. A strange crystal sickness, that seemingly just burst out of people. If anyone knows how, or why it happens, then they aren't sharing anything with the majority of us. Then there was the quarantine. That was when all the folks in the living room lost their access to their homes. They were working in the docks when the quarantine was placed, and they were told that they had two choices. Either enter the quarantine area and forget about being out of it for who knows how long, or stay out and be capable of keeping their jobs. All these people decided to stay out and keep working to try and help their families inside. Not that the new regime lets them send much into the quarantine area. It's mostly only stuff that was approved by the regime, after all."

It sounded awful for Hikari. Like things were just spiralling out of control in the city. The mention of the new regime caused her to look at Kana. Her mouth opened slightly, as if she wanted to start saying something, and then closed. After eating another bite from the soup and sitting in silence, she finally spoke up "What about this new regime? What about father and grandfather? Are they both okay?"

Kana looked at Hikari with a gentle smile before shaking her head "I don't know about either of them. They haven't remained in touch with me. They only ever keep in touch when you are around. And you weren't around, so they had no reason to talk to me. Even if I still care for Masaki, I won't go chasing him down. He made his choice." her voice was gentle, before turning a bit more serious "As for this new regime? Someone called Jirou Kanbe decided to go and kill off a whole lot of people from the senate. He didn't kill everyone as far as I am aware, but still. To go with the bloody method and a show of strength like that. I wonder if either of us will live to see a ruler rise without blood being shed."

So her mom didn't know anything about either of them, and the new dictator sounded like all the predecessors so far. Hikari couldn't help but feel like even more like things were just looking worse and worse the more she hears about them "And how have you been? How can you afford to feed all these people?" She asked.

"I have the workers to thank for help with getting the food supplies. Each day, one of them helps pay to cover for breakfast and dinner. The meals are the same each day, some bread and cheese for the morning, soup for the evening. Even if it doesn't taste the best, it's filling, and they told me they are thankful for that, even if I should use a bit less salt." Kana laughed a bit. Looking at Hikari, she placed her right hand on her daughter's cheek "As for me? I'm better now, knowing you got home safe. That was the biggest concern I had throughout this entire period. How were you doing. Were you eating enough, sleeping enough, is your team looking out for you? I had a million concerns, and they all involved you."

Remaining quiet, Hikari moved her gaze to the table. She was starting to feel a bit bad for causing her mom to worry so much, along with everything that has been going on "I'm sorry mom. I didn't mean to-"
"You didn't. It's a parent's job to worry about their child, regardless of what path they choose. From the day you were born until the day I close my eyes." Kana said, before moving her hand away from Hikari's cheek "Now, finish your soup. I don't know when you will next be deployed, or when you might have training, so while you are still under my roof, I expect you to eat properly."

Smiling at the sudden orders that she was given, Hikari looked back at Kana "Yes ma'am." She said, before both girls started chuckling together. Even if things felt worse for wear in Kirigakure as a whole, Hikari still managed to find a glimpse of happiness with her mom.

The morning after, Hikari helped her mom with serving breakfast for the people, before seeing them all leave for work. While she had a thought of spending more time at home, she still wanted to know if anything happened to her father or grandfather. So not long after, she departed and started heading in the direction of where her grandfather was living at. She figured he would be at his home for almost certain, considering the changes that her mom told her about the previous night.

It didn't take her long before she arrived at the house. It wasn't looking as good as it once did, but Hikari knew Teiji was always going between people to help care for the house, as no one could meet his unrealistic standards. Knocking on the front door, she waited for a moment before the door opened. A young man stood in front of her, looking her over.
"Master Torimoto is currently occupied. He won't accept any gue-"
"Please go tell him Hikari is here, and is requesting to see him." She told the young man.

The young man seemed a bit displeased to have been interrupted, but closed the door. After a minute, the door opened once more, and the man stepped aside "He agreed to see you. Master Torimoto is currently in the living room." He informed her, as Hikari stepped inside. After closing the door behind her, the man walked away, vanishing into one of the other rooms. Once she had on a pair of guest slippers, Hikari walked to the doorway to the living room. Looking inside, she was surprised by what she saw.

"And I'm telling you, the Sons of Kaizuko never stood behind Kanbe! We had our own beliefs as to how things should be done, and that man stands opposite to a number of them!" Masaki said, sounding rather angry as he looked at Teiji, who sat opposite of him. Teiji, however, paid little attention to Masaki at the moment, his eyes fixed on Hikari instead.
"Hikari. Welcome back." the old man said, gesturing for her to enter and come sit.

"Thank you, Teiji-sama." Hikari said, taking a few steps forward, bowing towards Teiji and only then sitting down. The cushion she sat on made her be lower than Teiji, and on the same height as Masaki. She looked at Teiji and then at Masaki, her expression showing she was content to see both of them, maybe even a bit happy "I returned only yesterday, but I wanted to see how both of you," Hikari moved her glance for a moment to Masaki, before looking back at Teiji "Were doing, after hearing from mom about the changes that occurred in the time I was gone."

"Well, the concern is appreciated." Teiji said, offering a nod of gratitude "But not all lives were taken in the show of execution that Kanbe fellow called his rise to power. And while there is some suspicion as to how it even happened to begin with," Teiji turned his eyes to Masaki "It is still under a veil of shadows. So I've decided to do what is best for me, at my age, and simply remain at the sidelines. My fool of a son, however, chose to arrive and demand I step forward and use my influence to instigate investigations into how this Jirou even managed to get as far as he did."
"Because you know as well as I that you hold enough influence in order to do this father!" Masaki snapped at the older man. After seeing Teiji give him a disappointed glance, Masaki turned to look at Hikari "I appreciate the concern, Hikari, and as you can see I am doing fine. I would be doing better if your grandfather wasn't such a coward."
Without waiting for any kind of response, Masaki stood up "Don't bother saying anything else. I'll take my leave now. Good day to you both." Masaki offered Teiji a bow, a nod to Hikari, and then left the room.

Sighing, Teiji leaned forward and poured some tea into a cup, before offering it to Hikari "I apologize for that. It is a rather daily occasion since the new dictator's rise. Masaki comes, demands my aid and influence, calls me a coward for refusing, and departs. I believe he doesn't see the reason I have to want to keep a lower profile at this point in time. This person, Jirou Kanbe, has a military background from what I could gather. And that display of his suggests that fate for anyone who might try and stand against him. I also understand what he wants though. Standing against a man who hasn't set himself as the ruler properly yet can more easily fell him down. But with how things are right now, with this crystal plague too, it is simply too risky to try and push either side."

Carefully sipping from the hot tea, Hikari listened to her grandfather speak. She didn't understand much about the political world, and she didn't really have an interest, but the least she could do is listen "Well, either way, I'm glad to see you're both safe." She said after he was done, putting the cup of tea back on the table "And since I saw what I wanted to see, I won't take more of your time." She told him, preparing to stand up only to see Teiji gesture to her to wait.

"Before you go. Even if I still do not approve of your choice, I will ask for your well being. Both physically and mentally. You had, after all, been away for some time. It must have been taxing in some manner on you." Teiji said, and to Hikari's surprise actually appeared to be willing to listen to her. Was he softening up in his old age? Then again, he was acting in a rather unusual manner towards her since the passing of her grandmother.

"I-" Hikari started to speak, only to hesitate. What would she gain from this? Teiji would likely only find more ways to try and convince her that she took the wrong path. And everything that came to mind certainly felt like it could be easily turned into arrows for his bow of slandering her choice to use. What she experienced was, after all, quite an extreme situation. She and her team were responsible for what happened to the ship. "I am doing well enough on both aspects to continue operating as a shinobi, and that is as far as I wish to delve into that. Now, I hope you won't mind, but I also wish to go and train some today." She told him, before standing up. She saw Teiji just nodding quietly before she bowed to him.

After she rose from the bow and turned away, she heard Teiji speak up again "I hope the tanto has been serving you well. Farewell, Hikari."
"It has. Farewell, Teiji-sama." Hikari said back, before leaving the room, and then a moment later, the house. The rest of the day she spent training with her tanto and wondering if perhaps, at some point in the future, she'd feel comfortable sharing things with her grandfather.

►Yukimi Yuki◄
►Location: Yuki Mansion, Kirigakure
►Rank & Team: Chuunin of Team 11

After what had felt like an eternity, Yukimi finally felt her body starting to lose a bit of the tension that had seemed to be ever-present for the duration of her previous mission. This, of course, occurred right about the same time she had walked past the gates in front of her mansion, nodding politely towards the two servants working the gates. Typically, the young Chuunin wouldn't particularly have paid them any mind, yet things had started to seem a little bit different from her point of view recently. Still, she didn't do much else by way of a greeting or thanking said servants, though that might also be contributed to the tired manner in which the Chuunin carried herself. Strangely, the girl who was used to just about every luxury on the planet had not slept all that well in the accommodations they had been provided with during the team's deployment. Without much need for saying it, she was quite happy to be back at her home. As if being guided by another force entirely, Yukimi easily made her way up towards the front of the home, walking in a rather direct line instead of the detail through the gardens that she would've typically taken. This more direct approach meant that it was not a very long journey for the young woman to reach the front door of her home, and quickly make her way inside.

Her first stop was not anywhere near her family, instead, she went directly up to the... wing that she called a room. Stepping inside, she quickly unceremoniously dropped her things on the floor and then took a direct path to her bed. While she didn't necessarily want to sleep, the allure of the large, soft mattress of her bed was irresistible. A light pomf! could be heard as she flopped on her bed and happily sunk into the bed. Sighing contently, Yukimi had not even the slightest inclination to move from her spot. Though sleep did not come for the girl as it often would when lounging in bed, instead she laid there awake and used the peacefulness of the moment to organize her thoughts on everything that had happened while they were on the mission. Particularly, what she had caused. The Yuki knew already that she would never forget the details of that event, particularly the faces and panicked screams of those who were left to die on board that ship. How some of the sailors she had seen around had not seemed much older than herself, a thought that hit her a bit harder than the others as she thought about how she had very likely killed some who were close to her age. How she had very likely destroyed a family, a thought which caused ice to run through her veins as she thought how she would feel if her own family was torn to shreds in such a manner.

Yet these thoughts were quickly interrupted by a loud knocking on her bedroom door, causing Yukimi to sit up quickly with a bit of a brighter expression on her features, thinking her father had finally come to see how she was after the mission. Yet her features quickly fell to something approaching her cold neutral that she had been so well known for as she noticed a female servant opening the door with her head bowed. "Pardon the intrusion, Miss Yuki, but your father has requested I draw you a bath so you might pull yourself together. He wishes for you to join dinner tonight, we have a guest representing his business interests." The woman said in a polite tone, yet one which betrayed her desire to be anywhere but at the young Yuki's room. No doubt, it was a side effect of the usual treatment which the girl had shown the servants throughout the year. Giving a small nod, Yuki gave the girl a polite smile as she bowed her head ever so slightly. "Thank you, Yuma, come get me once the bath is prepared." Yukimi said, her tone an even polite as the servant quickly nodded then exited the room. As the woman left, Yukimi's previous expression morphed once more to one of annoyance. Not at the young servant, but instead aimed this time at her father. The man who hadn't even come to check on his daughter, yet expected her to be present and on her best for his business interests.

Letting out a disappointed sigh as she gathered her things, Yukimi knew that she didn't really have a choice in attending dinner. After all, going against her father was the last thing that would help get him to check on his daughter's wellbeing.

[ Lightning Country | Capital of the North, Ranzaki ]
[ Mareo Hojo | Lord of the Hojo Clan ]

The halls of the Daimyo were grand. Much effort had been placed to make the royal complex within Ranzaki to be a marvel in the north. A combination of dark stones and wood gave it a rustic theme. At the same time, art and decorations gave every hall and corner nearly a story of its own to tell visitors.
These days, the royal complex was mostly under guard by Hojo soldiers and operatives. These men and women are diligently doing their duties as if they wanted to make sure that all knew: the Hojo now guarded the royal line of Ranzaki.

But curious folk would notice something odd. At the perimeter was a metal fence, meant as the first barrier to ward off the common and nastier folk from reaching the palace's walls. At the entrance of the fence, there wasn't just the flag that represented the crown and the Hojo. The sigil of the Alaricus and Sanosuke clans were held highly. And while appearing as a small gesture, it was enough to arouse curiosity and gossip.
Trudging through the halls of the palace, Mareo had a faint smile stuck on his face. All was going according to plan, he mused to himself, from the small, subtle signs to the return of Keitaro back to the capital.
Approaching a door that was guarded by a dozen guards, Mareo didn't need to ask or say anything. The door was opened for him and allowed the Lord of the Hojo to enter a beautiful space. The luxuries present alone in this room were most likely worth more than what many common folk ever earned.

Performing a graceful bow, Mareo spoke.
"Your Majesty, I am sorry to interrupt. But important affairs await you." Mareo began, subtly glancing around. The old Hojo near-instantly noticed that the current Lord of the Lightning wasn't feeling confident. The pale features and pained expression said more than enough for Mareo.
"Your Majesty?" Mareo softly replied, placing his hands behind his back.

"Yes, sorry, Lord Hojo. I was just in thought. I am ready to deal with the decisions. Where are we off to?" The young man began as he tried to cast a friendly smile.
Mareo didn't answer right away. His features shifted, showing concern and pity. But his mind was already ahead, and the old Hojo was delighted at the current situation.
"Your Majesty, you have suffered a lot of stress. As unfair as it seems, you are required to make decisions that are of paramount importance. To both you, the clans and all the people underneath your rule." Mareo paused, lowering his head slightly, "I understand that governing isn't the easiest matter to deal with. If it pleases his Majesty, I would be most honour to attend to the matters of the day. And see to it that your Majesty's subjects are treated well. All of them will learn of how much his Majesty cares about them."

Noticing already that the young man was considering the offer, Mareo patiently awaited. Unlike Mareo, Keitaro hadn't yet learned the vital skills at running a court.
"If you are willing Lord Hojo, you would do me a huge favour."
"Of course, your Majesty. I exist to serve you."

Mareo walked out of the room with a faint smile. He had gone through various topics and matters that required Keitaro's approval. And without anyone else to butt in or give their 'opinion', it was so easy to steer the young man into the desired direction.
It was almost too easy, Mareo mused to himself. Then again, he wasn't yet growing comfortable. For the leaders of significant clans had been invited to the city of Ranzaki. Not to pledge their fealty towards Keitaro. But to learn what was to come with the country, now that Keitaro was the ruling Daimyo.
A fact that did worry Mareo more than to deal with the vassal states. For he had yet to understand what the Sanosuke and Alaricus would want.

[ Kirigakure | Capital of the Republic of Water ]
[ Team 'Hayashi' | A post written by @SilverPaw , @BlueFlameNikku and @Lesli ]
[ The team has received their next assignment. Gathering at the docks of Kirigakure, the trio make ready to depart to their destination: The Honey country, a vassal state of the Republic. ]

Part 1

Waiting at the meeting point, Neime watched the activity at the port. The commercial section where the vessels of fishers, traders and what not competed for places. At early dawn, it already started in full earnest. There was much squabbling and huffing over the best spots. Those responsible were often busy to regulate, being bribed and checking for illegal wares.
Leaning against the nearby wall, Neime watched as a group of guards entered on a small trade vessel in search of contraband. It was amusing to see how nervous the merchant paced around. For it wasn't too weird for guards to be bribed to plant contraband or do something else to harass some people.
Luckily, they weren't going with any vessel of a trader. They were bound to some war ship. A large galley going by the name of Amagi. A certain class of wargalley that was going to transport troops, goods and the team towards the east - as part of a supply convoy.
Releasing a soft sigh, Neime still doubted if this was the right call. She imagined that being the leader was a tough spot. And that it was quite easy to berate and condemn decisions. At least, easier to do that than to make the actual decisions and bear the responsibilities.
Still, maybe she could get them out of their current pickle and allow them to steer away from the war front.

On account of how close Sugi's home was to the port he'd already have been hanging around there well before the designated time. He sat around and watched the activities of all kinds of sailors, dockworkers and soldiers. Everything was par for the course as to what Sugi usually saw from the day to day but that wasn't a good thing. The happenings around here were a constant reminder of the corruption that afflicted his home like a sickness. How ironic that they've been in the middle of an actual plague. One didn't even need to look that hard to see the corrupt. Bribes and threats were declared out in the open air, practically just accepted. Things will change one day, one way...or another.

Once the time rolled around nineish, the genin rendezvoused with Neime after checking his equipment and pack once more. "Neime senpai!" He greeted her casually with one hand raised as he made his way through a slightly crowded area of dockworkers. One of which shouted Sugi's name to which the genin replied with a smile and wave. He stopped in front of Neime, clearly in good spirits despite one soldier who seemed to be running late for something nearly crashed right into the genin before rushing past. "Never a dull moment down by the docks huh senpai?" He joked with a smirk on his face.

Sana had risen early, excitement thrumming in her veins at the thought of her first mission. She knew she had to calm down, and so went jogging. She had enough time to do so, go home, shower, make and eat breakfast - together with her father, who gave her some reminders, such as not to be rash, to listen to her commander, be aware of her surroundings etc. - then finally to head to the meeting point at a leisurely walking pace. The activity at the port was in full swing, and the genin watched the proceedings curiously as she passed by.

It was busy, loud, and chaotic, but there was also a strange kind of order to it; like ants in an anthill. Though that was an overgenerous description for the kind of inefficiency she often observed or heard of, Sana concurred. All the money-driven self-interested corruption-oriented inspections certainly didn't speed up things for the traders, even if they did line the pockets of certain select individuals. She wondered if the guards did it due to feeling their salary was too low, out of boredom, or because they enjoyed the feeling of superiority. Well, it was probably all that and more. Sana wasn't particularly concerned about it beyond feeling glad that she likely wouldn't have to deal with such a thing herself in the nearby future.

Switching to marveling at the most impressive vessels, she arrived at the meeting several minutes after Sugi - though it was him that was a bit early, rather than her being late. "Good morning," she greeted, though it didn't really feel like morning to her any longer. She'd been awake for the past three hours or so after all. "Do you know anything else about this mission, senpai?" she inquired the chuunin politely.

Neime twisted her head slightly, upon hearing the distinct voice of Sugi. The joke provoked a faint smile as Neime decided to push her back from the wall. Before she could give a response, Neime noticed that Sana joined them. If anything, these genin did know what it meant to be on time - a good omen if any.
"Morning, to you both," Neime started as she subtly nodded to both genin before continuing, "I do. There is a bit of a catch to all this. With some luck? We won't be as long gone as I dread," the Hayashi stated - evidently cautiously with her phrasing.
"In short? We are going to travel to one of the vassal states. The Honey country is our destination. Which brings us close to the campaign east that you may or may not have heard about. Our job is to investigate some matters and make sure that the brass receive our reports to understand how the Honey is doing."
There was a slight hint of annoyance in Neime's voice. If anything, she knew what her place was. But she also realised when matters weren't right in place. This was an assignment more fitting for a diplomatic envoy than this team.
"Once we have concluded our search, we are to join the effort of the campaign eastwards."

Almost immediately Neime raised her right hand, to halt any responses to her last words.
"At least, that is what currently is instructed. I intend to make sure that we aren't going to be sent straight to a war-torn zone. With all respect, neither of you are ready for it. So with some luck? We will be stuck in the Honey country, for a while."

Sugi couldn't help but wonder why they, members of the military, were being sent to look over matters in a vassal state. Wouldn't sending military personnel in such a way come off as overly abrasive? He shuffled in place at the thought as he listened to Neime continue on. Then at the mention of the latter part of their mission included joining the campaign on the eastern front, the genin froze in place. His curious smile instantly vanished as his pupils dilated, staring downwards. They couldn't possibly be serious. Himself and Sana were practically as green as genin could be. Were they literally just getting thrown into the meat grinder?

When the boy quickly raised his head it was met with Neime's right hand, indeed halting his immediate response. Clear relief washed over Sugi's face, happy to hear that their senpai was really watching out for Sana and himself. He said nothing as his face likely said it all and merely looked back and forth between Neime and Sana.

Sana listened to Neime, a frown forming during her account; however, by the end of it, she breathed a sigh that was half-relief, half-frustration. "As much as I would like to contribute to any and all endeavors asked of me...I do realize the eastern campaign is no place for me if I want to survive. Which I do," she admitted all that with a pained grimace. Her lack of skill was both irksome and...understandable, she supposed.

However, Sana was also surprised that fresh genin such as them would be thrown into the middle of a war...was their country truly so low on personnel? The pink-haired young woman exhaled slowly as she rolled her shoulders. "Thank you for looking after us, senpai," she muttered, genuinely grateful but also embarrassed as she almost felt mothered (which she had plenty of experience with on account of her auntie). She finally looked at Sugi, who also seemed relieved they wouldn't be thrown amongst and against veterans and expected to succeed. She offered him a strained smile, an attempt at commiseration.

Noticing the relief on Sugi's face, Neime wouldn't comment on it. She was well aware that others of higher rank would have been most displeased. When Sana also showed some signs of relief, Neime waited for a second. The Hayashi didn't mind giving both genin a moment.
"Good. Seems you both are on the same page with me. Makes this a whole lot easier," Neime said, a faint smile dawning on the Hayashi's lips. "My plan is to keep getting stuck at the investigation and make the brass reconsider their move. Chance is still huge that we are going to be sent to the front, whether we try. Sadly," Neime beckoned them to start following her as she continued, "neither of us is in any important station right now to make an impact. Well," she briefly thought.

The rise of the new regime seemed to rely a lot on Hayashi clan support. Perhaps to the point that the Hayashi could start to interfere and prevent some decisions from happening? Problem was that Neime knew she was in no spot to call in on favours. Her rank, both social as military, was in no way of pulling any gravitas to her name.
"Right now, we should just focus on getting to our destination."

Continuing heading forwards, they were briefly stopped by soldiers. The military part was under heavy guard and instead of the civilian counterpart, it wasn't monitored by the city guards. A certain authorian atmosphere seemed to be thick in the air as the matters were seemingly organised in a different fashion.
Finding their way, Neime would point towards a large vessel.
"That is our ride," she said, required to raise her voice a bit to make herself audible towards the genin, "the Kaimon."
The ship was quite large, easily dwarfing most merchant vessels. A large musterring of sailors and what seemed to be marines gathered at the base of the boarding or on deck of the vessel. Several decorations could be seen, likely to bring good luck or instill fear in any enemy daring to approach.
Getting on the ship, Neime would be able to navigate the other two genin to the railing.
"You guys are lucky. As shinobi, we are part of the marines onboard of the ship. Much like the other possible shinobi that are assigned to this vessel," Neime began to explain, "which means that the chance is low that we will be assigned anything else than to just stand guard and such."

As if Sugi needed another reason to dislike the current regime. Despite Neime's plans they likely have to head to the front regardless but at least if they took their time maybe Neime could more prepare Sana and himself for what was to come. It was far from ideal but it would have to do for now.

The genin marveled up at the massive military military ship as he followed shortly behind Neime alongside Sana.. The young shinobi was more or less used to smaller fishing vessels but this was on another level of size and complexity. He couldn't help but find the name amusing as well. Like most people around these parts Sugi felt right at home upon a seabound vessel. He loved being around water and it'd been years since he'd gotten seasick.

He took up a spot by the railing to the left of Neime and leaned down over it a bit, resting his chin on his forearms as he looked over the docks and the city from the nice vantage point. It was a breathtaking view of his home. "That doesn't sound too bad." Sugi chimed responding to what all they'd likely be assigned while enroute to their destination. The genin then leapt up so that he was now standing on the railing, holding one of the ropes next to him for support as he looked over the docks once more.

He'd never been away from home for as long as he likely was going to be. Heck, with how things might go, he may never come back. Now fully taking this in he didn't give any proper goodbyes to the folks on his street. A twinge of guilt wallowed in his chest at the thought despite knowing that most of them were busy around this hour. Sugi couldn't help but imagine them along the far dock waving goodbye and cursing at him that he'd better come back and such. He shed a tear, quickly wiping it away so that the girls wouldn't see.

Sugi let out a sigh before looking over Sana with a contempt look. "Least now I'll have plenty of time to work on those codes and signals." He said, trying to grab for something more on the bright side of this mission.

"Noted, senpai," Sana nodded shortly in reply to Neime's smile and explanation. "I trust you'll do the best of the situation, regardless of what it is," she affirmed. It was clear that the chuunin cared for both of their genin, but was also good enough at following orders - or appearing to follow orders - that no one would get in trouble. She was admittedly surprised that even a Hayashi like her stated she had no impact, but supposed it had something to do with her inner clan and familial politics. She was curious, but not keen to ask, so stayed silent.

"Good. What chances are there for trouble on the way to the destination?" she wondered. Of course, getting there was the important thing for now, but the way her teacher had worded it...perhaps there was something they should expect. Or perhaps she'd said what she had as a 'let's talk more about that later' kind of a thing. Sana wasn't sure, so asked a somewhat ambiguous yet sensible question as they headed to their vessel - and it was truly a magnificent one.

"Kaimon...It's beautiful," she muttered. She'd been on her share of boats, but a military vessel? This would be the first time, and getting onto an impressive beast such as that was quite the experience. It was difficult not to marvel at its sheer size, functionality, and the foreboding air it exuded. All the people swarming it almost gave it the appearance of a fruit assaulted by fruit flies...well, what with the strict soldiers, they were perhaps more akin to wasps guarding their queen's nest. Nevertheless, it was fascinating to observe, and Sana swung her neck right and left or craned it upwards as they embarked, a small smile playing about her lips.

Once upon the deck, she leaned against a railing near Sugi, briefly glancing at him with a questioning brow as he jumped upon it, but without vocalizing her question returned to looking out at the sea. The waves were calming to watch, and the scent of salt was especially dominant this close. At Sugishimo's remark, Sana chuckled politely - well, it was almost an amused scoff, but not the impolite kind. "True that. Got anything in mind? I don't mind helping, since I'll have to learn them afterwards in any case," she commented.

For a moment, Neime considered what she should say as Sana asked for the chances of trouble. There had been some mutterings that Neime had caught up about some increase in pirates. And then there were the troubling rumours that came from the south that she had caught. Demons on the sea? It was vague but it could lead to various troubles that Neime rather didn't think about.
"Maybe pirates. But they rarely ever are bold enough to pick a fight with a war vessel," Neime stated as she would watch the two genin moving at the rail. As Sugi climbed on the railing, Neime wouldn't order him to come down. They weren't yet on the move and she felt no need to be strict.
Also leaning against the railing, she stared at the city.
"Hm? You guys working on codes? Signals?" Neime asked, her eyebrows slightly perking up. Turning her back to the railing, she observed the activity on deck before continuing further, "seems that we are bound to go soon."

[ Empire of Akino | A day travel south of Kanazawa, Uchiha Heartlands ]
[ Kiyomi Homura | Empress of Akino ]

Sitting on a flat stone, Kiyomi watched the preparations. They had a few days before reaching the city of Amthyr. The royal envoy existed solely out of Sworn Swords. Which could be argued was a bit too much, seeing that usually less than thirty Sworn Swords were accompanying Kiyomi in plain sight. Most others would go by in disguises to be able to provide aid from various angles rather than just all surrounding Kiyomi herself.
Taking a bite from the bread, the young empress was genuinely feeling content. It was nice to be able to visit grand places and see historical landmarks that she would otherwise be not able to visit herself - or perhaps with Hisoka or Zakito going through the troubles and thus being a mission attached to it all.
Yet, she couldn't deny that there was something to travelling. With the snow slowly ebbing away as Spring started to make an entry, Kiyomi still enjoyed the tranquillity of the night, the cold breezes and sense of freedom. An experience that was sorely lacking whenever she was holed up in the royal palace.

"Enjoying some cold bread, eh?"

The sound of someone sitting accompanied the familiar voice. A glance to the right revealed to Kiyomi, and it was none other than Kensuke. The tall blonde man seemed more relaxed than he had been during the visit to the Uchiha heartlands. The Nimatsu started to chew on a bite of bread, with the expression as if it wasn't cold.
"Mine isn't cold," Kiyomi replied as she broke a piece and offered it to the Nimatsu, "behold! The magic of heating things with chakra!"
The Nimatsu raised a hand to decline the offered piece of bread politely. Barely clearing his mouth, the Nimatsu retorted.
"So, you have tamed a Bijuu, which is a giant flaming cat. And you use it to warm up your bread?" The man asked, his eyebrows raised.

A smirk grew on Kiyomi's lips as she nodded. "Of course! This is why I have taken a like to fire release. Allows me not to get cold. Warms up my food. Keep my baths from going cold. And have you ever tried to give someone a handshake you don't like? I think it is uncomfortable to hold someone's hand when it is hot. And judging by the expression of my victims, I don't doubt it."
Taking a bite from her bread, Kiyomi would chew and only a moment later point at her cheeks. "See?" The word was muffled out as a few breadcrumbs fell out of the monarch's mouth.

Slightly amused, Kensuke decided to not respond to it. For a small while, the two remained seated as around them Sworn Swords were busy. The empty plains around them were fully surveyed. If she had to go by the current situation and what their inside information from the zealots stated, it was early for the ambush. Not to mention, the surroundings weren't optimal. The flat plain of grass would be too ideal for her abilities to work against enemies - not to mention making it harder for the Zealots to separate her from the Sworn Swords and Kensuke. No, the woods would be a fair better situation Kiyomi mused to herself.
"What are you thinking about?"
The simple question of Kensuke disturbed Kiyomi's thoughts as she raised a waterskin to her lips. Pausing the motion, the young woman answered.
"Just about the whole plan and ambush." She answered before taking a sip. Offering the waterskin to Kensuke, she would return a question.
"What about you?"

Kensuke accepted the waterskin and took a swig. He didn't answer right away, his sight away from Kiyomi. "Team 4," the words left his lips as a mere whisper. But there was something to it that caused Kiyomi to feel wary.
The first thought was to try to make a joke. Asking if Kensuke meant his Team 4 or the current one. But there was something that prevented her from joking about it all.
"What about them?" She asked, leaning slightly forward. Her question was initially met with silence.

"How long did you know?"

Kiyomi's stomach slightly twisted. The small smile that had adorned her features ebbed away. For a second, she considered an answer. To spin a lie was easy. To continue Meisa's work and keep it up with the spinning. After all, she had the resources and ability to keep Kensuke from finding out the truth. To keep him believing in an illusion.
"For a while," Kiyomi answered, her voice surprisingly calm. "I learned about the Ghost ANBU when the Fourth Hokage tutored me. In such a spot, you learn about these things."
"So the Fourth Hokage instructed Team 4 to fake death and worked as some ANBU?" Kensuke asked, his voice neutral. Kiyomi tried to read him. Her eyesight was sharp, and the darkness of the night did little to hide secrets from her. What did prevent her was the fact that Kensuke still appeared to be calm. A revelation that confused her slightly.
"Yes, the Fourth Hokage did." Kiyomi answered, "Though Tsubasa," she wanted to continue, however, Kensuke spoke up again.

"Where is Ryo?"

The question was asked calmly. But there was an undertone. Something trembling. Even despite being confident in her abilities, Kiyomi didn't mistake who sat next to her. Knowing all too well what Kensuke was capable off made her quite wary.
"I don't know." Kiyomi answered, her gaze not withdrawing as she saw Kensuke turning towards her. Then it hit her.
"I am sorry, Ken," the words left Kiyomi's lips as a mere whisper upon the sight of the sadness and guilt. It drove away from the previous wariness and made her feel horrible.

Offering an arm, Kiyomi scooted closer to the much taller Nimatsu. For another while, they just sat next to each other. An awkward sight perhaps, but no one would disturb them.
"If you want to," Kiyomi started slowly, "you may search for him. But I don't know where he is."

It remained silent. Words weren't necessary.

[ Double Dragon! ]
[ Eastern Continent | The encampment of the 11th Brigade ]
[ A collaboration between @ChromeHound and @Autumn Song ]
[ A while ago, Hylli tried to contact Hayate Hyuzu after learning that he was present within the 11th brigade's encampment. After some time passed, Hylli received a response; she would be allowed to meet with Hayate on a set time and date. While being almost deployed on another assignment, Hylli ventures out to meet with Hayate. Which leads to some interesting exchange and promise of more in the future. ]

It had been a bit of a surprise when she received word from the quartermaster. The request that she was able to meet the captain-commander of the Guardians was accepted. There was a hunch that allowed Hylli to grasp why the captain of the Guardians had agreed to a meeting. But she wouldn't let her thoughts and hunches get to her.
Heading over to the large tent that was designated as the place where she could meet the captain of the Guardians, Hylli did notice the security. It was clear that if anyone desired to get close to the specific captain, they would need to be extremely skilled or aware of their security detail.
Not that she would fret or show too much curiosity for the security detail. Right now, Hylli had no qualms with the captain of the Guardians. In fact, it was more curiosity that had drawn her. To see if she would be allowed to meet him and speak with him.
But right now, the captain was likely the only living Imperial on the eastern continent that was nearby enough that could help her with something.

Approaching the entry of the large tent, Hylli politely announced herself to the present guards. Waiting to be allowed inside, Hylli placed her hands at her back. Moving her gaze away from the tent, she already weighed the words she wanted to use to formulate her questions.

One of the guards ducked into the tent after confirming Hylli's identity. After a few moments, she would return, gesturing for the girl to enter the tent.

Inside the tent, Hayate leaned over his desk, studying several reports. When he heard Hylli enter the tent, he looked up from the reports and turned to face her. "Ah, thank you for coming," Hayate said, smiling politely and gesturing for her to come inside. "Always nice to see another Hyuzu, especially this far out," he continued, "Please, have a seat. I was informed you were looking to speak with me. When I saw your name… well… I'm not sure you remember me," Hayate chuckled, scratching the back of his neck somewhat sheepishly, "I was quite a bit younger when we first met."

Entering the large tent, Hylli had to resist to let her gaze wander about - for she was most curious to what a commander's tent looked from the inside. There was some anticipation for trophies of past battles, such as captured weapons or armour. Upon sighting Hayate, Hylli performed a resolute salute as greeting.
"Thanks," she would start as well taking a seat, "and I remember you, Hayate," a faint smile crossed Hylli's lips. "Granted, not much. But seems you have grown up. I was most curious if you would indeed remember my name."

Pausing, Hylli threw a swift glance around them. "You've been faring well, so it seems," placing her gaze back on Hayate, Hylli slightly leaned back, "I suppose it is a bit late. But congratulations on achieving so much in such time. "

Returning the salute, Hayate would take a seat himself. "Well, it is certainly good to see you again Hylli," he began, smiling politely when she offered her congratulations. "And thank you! Still feels a little surreal sometimes, but I hope I'm doing the clan proud." Hayate's expression shifted ever so slightly and he glanced away for a moment.

Turning back, the smile back on his face, he folded his arms across his chest. "Unless I'm mistaken, the last time we had spoken, you were hoping to follow in your brother's footsteps to join the Dragon Guard. Are you still training for it?"

"I doubt that you can bring much disgrace with what you have achieved. Leader of a renowned unit, for example is more than what most achieve," Hylli replied, slightly amused with Hayate being humble whereas most would be showing of some pride.
"I did, yes. I was briefly scouted and tested. But I didn't manage to pass their expectations. I fear that I'll have to walk a different path before I can prove myself as material for the Dragon Guard."
Shifting her weight subtly Hylli decided to return a question.
"So, speaking of training. I know that you're likely a most busy person. Being occupied with more pressing matters than what I am about to ask. But you are the only person I can approach. Or well," remembering Orun, Hylli doubted the former knew much about metal release, "the right person for it. It is regarding the bloodline ability."

Nodding slowly as Hylli mentioned that she did not meet the Dragon Guard's expectations, Hayate paused, thinking for a moment. "They can be quite… harsh with their selection process unfortunately. When I first attempted to get in, my brother he… well, at least I always assumed it was him… I was told that I needed to train more before they'd consider me as well. At the time I held it against Jora, assuming that he didn't want his little brother tagging along. However, it became clear that they were right. I had spent more time when I was younger training in stealth and other skills than focusing on what makes the Dragon Guard so effective. Those skills actually lead me on a different path, setting me on the course to where I am now." Shrugging, Hayate smiled and tilted his head slightly. "You may find in time that your path leads somewhere different as well Though... if you still wish to join the Dragon Guard, then I would be happy to assist however I can to facilitate that goal."

When Hylli asked her question, Hayate leaned backwards slightly, curious. "It is true they like to keep me quite busy, but I can definitely try to make some time to help you with that." Scratching his chin, he continued, "What were you looking to know?"

A soft smile dawned on Hylli's lips as she registered what Hayate offered. "Truth be told, I always blamed myself. Granted, my parents weren't liking the conclusion. But I saw it as a reason to try to train harder. Partially, the reason why I am now deployed on a war campaign, we could say."
Locking her hands together as she slightly sat back, Hylli continued. "But I am grateful for your offered help. Right now? My goal is to just survive this matter and manage to be one of the luckies ones that goes home at the end of it."
When Hayate questioned what she was looking to know regarding their bloodline ability, Hylli pondered for a good two seconds before she spoke again.

"Frankly, I never looked much into it. I always fixated more on, other skills than the bloodline ability. Was never my strongest suit to begin with. I suppose that I would like some, tips? Tricks what make it easier for me to understand how it works. How to employ it. Perhaps hearing how you managed."

Waiting patiently while Hylli spoke, Hayate pondered how best to help her. As she finished, he took a moment to think. It was a good question, and one he truly hoped he'd be able to answer clearly. Glancing away, Hayate tried to think back to when he was first learning how to use the bloodline ability. "Our bloodline ability, it… it is unique in how it works." he began, turning back to face Hylli. "In order to understand how to utilize it to its full potential, it's incredibly important to understand three things."

Pausing, Hayate reached down with one hand into his pouch, drawing out some of the alloy before raising his hand, the metal now coating it. "The first is how metal reacts around our chakra." As he spoke, Hayate flowed a small amount of chakra into the metal around his hand, causing the metal to shift and gather in his palm. When the metal had gathered, he began to form simple shapes. "By default, our chakra affects metal at its core, turning what used to be a solid material, into a malleable form that we can manipulate at will. It becomes easier to control when you stop thinking of metal as the immovable, firm material it appears to be and begin thinking of it like a liquid, or even clay that can be moulded with relative ease." As he finished speaking, the metal in his hand formed into a small figurine of a dragon.

Placing the figure on the desk, Hayate looked back at Hylli. "Most Hyuzu are capable of manipulating metal in a more simplistic and rudimentary fashion. It can still be incredibly effective, but it lacks the precision that will allow you to make the most of our ability." Scratching behind one of his ears, he shrugged his shoulders and gave her a sheepish grin. "That was one of the things that took me the longest to learn… I was able to make basic shapes, weapons and armor fairly early on, but I never spent time refining things. Making more complex shapes or focusing on every part of what I was moulding to ensure there were no weak points. When I learned this, it allowed me to expand on what I already knew how to do; making my armour stronger, allowing me to cover more surface area with less metal and without losing durability. It let me make more intricate weapons and… well it let me make some cool looking things," he said, gesturing towards the dragon figure, a hint of pride in his voice.

"That leads to the second thing. Understanding how metal works outside the influence of our chakra." Leaning back in his chair slightly, Hayate's mind flashed back to his first days working in the forge, learning from Tsubasa… Letting out a soft sigh, he continued, "There are many different types of metals, all with unique properties. Some are softer and easier to manipulate, even without our bloodline ability. Some are incredibly strong, requiring intense heat to even attempt to mould them. Some channel chakra with incredible efficiency while others repel chakra completely." Meeting Hylli's gaze, Hayate hoped he wasn't boring her. "What helped me was working in the forge. I learned how to work with different metals while not using my bloodline ability at all. It was difficult, and definitely isn't for everyone, but it gave me a deeper understanding of metals and how they work than I ever would have received on my own." Glancing back at the dragon figurine, he continued, "One of the reason the Hyuzu smiths are so highly regarded is because they dedicate their lives to understanding all the different properties of the metals they work with. They are constantly learning and experimenting with different combinations of metals and other materials to maximize their knowledge and, as a direct result, allow them to create unique and highly effective items."

"Working in the forge may not be something you wish to do, but that is entirely okay. If you wish to enhance your knowledge of the different metals and their properties I'd be happy to get someone from the Smith's Guild to provide some training. Alternatively, once we're finished with this whole conflict, I'd also be willing to offer training in the forge back at Guardian headquarters. Should you be interested, of course."
Reaching back into his pouch, he withdrew a very small amount of metal this time, just enough to cover the fingertips of his index and middle finger. Bringing his hand up once more, his tone grew slightly more serious."The third item is understanding how else we can affect metal at its core." Forming the metal into a very small sphere, Hayate concentrated, increasing the density of the tiny object. When he was satisfied, Hayate turned his hand and dropped the ball onto the table. It struck the table with a surprisingly loud thud, especially for the sphere's size. When it landed, it did not bounce as might be expected, nor did it roll much. Picking up the sphere, Hayate concentrated once more, adjusting the density again, this time making the ball much lighter.

With a smile on his face, he turned his hand and dropped the sphere again. This time, it barely made a sound as it hit the table, bouncing a few times before rolling to a rest. Looking back up at Hylli, he continued. "By understanding the different properties that certain metals have, we can adjust them accordingly. One of our techniques utilizes some of the more destructive elements of that practice, by destabilizing the molecules within an object and causing it to explode. There are many other uses, however, such as magnetizing or demagnetizing some metals, altering an enemies weapon so that it becomes brittle to the point of breaking on contact, increasing or decreasing the density of an item to make it easier to wear or carry… the list goes on."

"I know it's a lot to take in," Hayate continued, "and it's not going to immediately help, but those principles will help you to better control and utilize the bloodline ability."

Hylli had hoped for some help. But then Hayate surprised her. She wished that she had some way to note down what he said. But with the absence of anything to write down the information, Hylli did her best to memorise it.
Several times did Hylli subtly nod, both to emphasis as more of a reflex on taking the information. It was in essence, not that difficult to accept and understand what Hayate said. But there was just something to accept and see metal as something that wasn't firm, solid and a source that was hard to mould.
A soft smile crossed Hylli's lips as she recognised the ring of pride resounding in Hayate's voice. It was reasonably entertaining that he did open so quickly to her, though Hylli didn't overthink it.
" I am most grateful for this alone, Hayate. It helps out a lot, to get a firmer grip on the understanding of the element. As for getting someone of the smith's guild, don't worry that much." A wry smile flashed over Hylli's features briefly, " I don't wish to cause too much work for you. Perhaps once this all over, I may take you on that offer to apprentice in smithing."

Watching what Hayate did with the sphere, Hylli's eyes narrowed. Her curiosity was piqued as she quickly understood what he had done. The display made her eager to get to training, but she would temper her eagerness for now.
"I get it. I have been able to master the ability to destabilize molecules within an object. To a successful degree, that is. But I hadn't given it thought to alter the density or alter it like you just showed."
Almost sinking in how she could train and apply the new information to her existing techniques if she would be able to master this given knowledge, Hylli snapped herself out of it.
"Thanks, you are quite good at this. I can now see why you got to become the captain-commander of an elite unit."

"Happy to help!" Hayate said, smiling. "It will be nice to have someone to work with in the forge, should you still remain interested after we all get home." He was relieved that his words had not seemed to bore Hylli. It had been a long time since he'd had the opportunity to actually provide advice to another Hyuzu. Hylli seemed to be getting something of value from his words as well, so that lent some hope to Hayate that he was not ruining his first attempt at really tutoring.

"Thanks," he said, scratching the back of his neck, "It's an incredible honour to be able to lead such talented people. I was blessed to have some amazing teachers that helped me better understand how to use my abilities."

"I think it is best to say, if we survive. I am certainly interested," Hylli replied, sounding slightly amused, "I imagine. Are you willing to tell me about some of these teachers? May that I find myself upon encountering one, I would be happy to show them the respect that their deeds deserve." Hylli finished, curious to see if Hayate was willing to inform her about the people who helped him.
Chuckling, Hayate nodded. "Well, the two I've spent the most time learning from are Hiron Hon and Empress Homura." Blushing slightly as he mentioned Kiyomi, Hayate glanced away. After a moment, he leaned back in his chair, scratching his chin, "I've also spent time learning from Saki Yamanaka, Koike Hon, Kensuke Nimatsu and my brother, though… truth be told I think I've taught Jora more than he's taught me." Turning back to Hylli, he tilted his head slightly, "You are serving under Aiko Cho-Hon, is that correct?" he asked. "How are you finding it so far?"

For a second, Hylli wasn't entirely sure if Hayate was joking around. She had heard some rumours that the Empress was betrothed with a Hyuzu. But she wasn't entirely certain if it was Hayate or if it was something she had misheard. Mentally noting it down, she would try to memorise the names. Not that she had any huge ambition of herself but who knew?
Upon Hayate's question, Hylli couldn't resist a smile.
"I am serving underneath Lady Cho, yes. She is a most, interesting figure, to put it mildly. I have yet to serve her any extensive period but she had already proven herself to be a most knowledgeable person. Very approachable too, despite the reputation and rank. I am currently serving directly underneath Lieutenant Meilin Cho, though. She seems a respectable leader. Strict and disciplined with the unit. So far? I can't honestly complain. Well," remembering one meeting that didn't sit well with her, Hylli shrugged lightly, "I only have experienced some discomfort from a Senju. I think he meant no harm but he was coming off way too strong. Something about that forgiving and then not forgetting. Cause we spoke of trust and what not. Slight disagreement, nothing harshly or major though."

Upon hearing Hylli's description of Aiko, Hayate smiled. Aiko was one teacher he wished he'd had more of an opportunity to learn from. When Meilin's name came up, Hayate's smile widened. "Seems you're starting with quite the impressive list yourself," he chuckled. "Meilin Cho is also a very talented shinobi. And, from what I've heard, she is a more than adequate leader." Hearing about Hylli's negative interaction with the Senju on her team, Hayate nodded his head slowly. "Well," he began, "I can't promise you'll always get along with your teammates. Would be nice if that were the case, however."

Shrugging apologetically, Hayate continued, "Have you come across anyone of particular interest in your team yet?" He had heard some stories from Meilin about the members of her team and they certainly seemed to be a rather unique group. Hayate wondered if Hylli had received the same impression from her teammates in the short time since she'd been assigned to them.

"You think?" Hylli genuinely curious. Aiko was indeed impressive but she hadn't learned much about Meilin. Only that the Cho was a lieutenant. Somewhat that did seem interesting seeing that Hylli figured from looks that they weren't that far apart in age.
Hearing Hayate explain that Meilin was a very talented shinobi and proper leader, Hylli made some mental notes. It wouldn't hurt to see if she could perhaps learn a thing or two from Meilin.
"Yeah. But beggars can't be picky. Or something like that," Hylli said, a wry smile growing on her lips. "Right now, I don't feel too bothered. I tend to steer away from friction and trouble anyways."

When Hayate asked if she had come across anyone particular interest in her team, Hylli thought about it. "Truth be told? I start to understand who the Imperial system starts to work. Was, at first, a tad confusing. That I am part of a shinobi team but also part of an unit. However, I met some people. Orun Hyuzu. Though, I can't say that I really like him. Nor dislike. Just, disagree with a lot of his viewpoints, I suppose."
The wry smile shifted, becoming sofer, "I also met Kazumo Sarutobi, as people would call him. An interesting fellow. I never met a Scylding. He seems a bit distant but he is a good chump, from what I can tell. Last time we went out hunting. Kind of the reason why I want to take up the bow. To see if I can't be of more use than someone who keeps asking questions or in need to be told what to do or expect."
There was another name that had been told but honestly, Hylli couldn't remember it. Considering that she didn't catch the name, she would shrug lightly. "There was another one. But I can't come up with their name. But so far, I do enjoy my squad and tentmates. Four blokes that may talk the talk and walk the walk. Were kind of douches, at first. But they have grown on me."

At the mention of Orun, Hayate's brows furrowed slightly. The name was familiar but he wasn't sure if he could recall who that was. Judging by Hylli's response, it wasn't someone she seemed to respect too much, however, so Hayate did not focus on it for long. When she mentioned Kazumo, he nodded, the smile returning to his face. Kazumo was not someone he'd interacted with much, but Kiyomi spoke highly of him so that had to count for something. Chuckling as she mentioned her team had been douches at the start, Hayate's thoughts immediately shifted to Meryn and Dalin. When he had first been teamed up with them during the Shoji occupation, they had also struck him as arrogant pricks. After a short while, however, they had grown on him and they'd been friends ever since. "Some of the best friendships start out like that," he remarked sincerely. "From the sounds of it, you've got a pretty good crew."

"Have you been sent on any missions out here yet?"
Hayate asked, wondering how much of the chaos Hylli might have been involved in.

"They do?" Hylli asked, the amusement ringing clear in her voice as she did genuinely doubt it for a moment. Then again, she had managed to tolerate as have some normal exchanges with her tentmates.
"Yeah, it could have been worse, true. As for missions?" Hylli raised a hand to scratch her cheek, "Only one. I am still pretty green or what do they call it? Wet behind the ears or something? I am looking forward to be send out to become part of more operations, though."
She was tempted to ask back. But despite their exchange seemingly informal, their rank was too different. It wasn't really polite to just inquire on what he was doing as she wasn't anywhere close - she imagined.
"I won't mind if the next missions will be a bit dull though. I want to get more trainings off before I am assigned to any violent operations."

Chuckling when Hylli referred to herself as wet behind the ears, Hayate nodded. "It can take some time to get fully up to speed," he acknowledged with a smile. "And that's a wise plan. While it can seem boring for most, preparing slowly is the only real way to get used to the chaos of this kind of engagement without putting yourself, and your teammates, at risk." Leaning back in his chair for a moment, Hayate scratched his chin, pondering something.

"If you'd be interested at all, I may be able to arrange some time so that you and I could have a training session or two?" Hayate asked. It had been a long time since he'd been able to train with another Hyuzu and he missed having the ability to discuss his bloodline ability with someone who could actually fully understand and help him practice a few things. Hayate did not even know if Hylli would have time before she was sent out on another mission, but he figured there was no harm in asking.

She had to agree. Even if there was some desire within Hylli that wanted herself to dive into the fray. But if she had to go by the results of the previous trainings and spars? Then the slow and secure route would be the most efficient.
"A training session?" Hylli repeated, slightly surprised by the fact that Hayate proposed it. "I would be honoured. If it won't mess with your plans and duties, I will be up for it." Hylli responded, a faint smile curling on her lips. "After all, I might just be assigned to guard this or that."

"Perks of being in charge," Hayate said with a grin, "I can sometimes control my own schedule." Glancing down at all the paperwork on his desk, Hayate shrugged and looked back up, "Sometimes..."

"But yes," he continued, "I would be happy to set up some time that we could train, it would be nice to train with a fellow Hyuzu. If I did not have a stack of paperwork to complete, I'd suggest we could perhaps train now." Gesturing towards the pile on his desk, Hayate shrugged apologetically. "I imagine, however, that once I power through this, I can reach out to schedule a time, so long as you aren't sent out on a mission prior."

"Sometimes is better than nothing," Hylli replied with, at first. She wouldn't mind being in charge of what she had to do most of the time - as she imagined was the case with Hayate.
"I am already looking forward to it. Just let me know when and where. Chances are high that I will be assigned to look over some crates or the gods forbid, latrine duty." Raising from her seat, she hesitated briefly. It was custom for the one higher in rank to dismiss the other.
"With your permission, I will then take my leave. So that you can tackle your current work." A smile flashed over Hylli's lips. "For I fear that I can't be of aid regarding such dreadful foes."

Rising to his feet as well, Hayate nodded with a smile, "Thank you Hylli," he said, "It was nice speaking with you. I will reach out once I am able to arrange a training session. Good luck for now and..." tilting his head slightly he chuckled, "May the Dragon keep you away from latrine duty."

(Kirigakure. Yuyuko)

Yuyuko shook her head as she moved to a dark corner to remove her headband and any obvious indicators that she was a shinobi outside of her katana that she could excuse herself as a samurai.
On her part, the orders were rather....vague as the genin repeated them to herself and considered how to do it tactfully.
After a few considerations she went off to look around for information heading to the edge of the market as she heard some gossip of some families leaving but nothing concrete yet for her to work with.
She more or less like suspected there were a number of people in the know, however getting them to spill would not be easy esperically after the events that happened previously like what Karuko said.
She looked around finding a small group heading into a ramen shop as Yuyuko weighted her options and next course of action as she felt her stomach growl somewhat.
With that, she made up her mind heading over to the ramen stall to buy a bowl of ramen to eat as she felt herself getting somewhat hungry.
Plus it gave her the perfect excuse to eavesdrop on the group she saw and any locals who also might gossip. It also wpuld give her a way to tactfully enter any conversation they were having without seeming suspicious as she picked a table near a crowded area and near the group she was tailing as it would give her the best chance of hearing something worthwhile as she used her chopsticks, gave thanks and begin to dig in, focusing her ears on the conversations around her while savouring the local ramen, both as a cover and to feed her hungry stomach.

[ Lightning Country | Ranzaki, the capital - Part 2]
[ Team 'Asami' | A collaborative post between @Autumn Song , @ChromeHound , @Feijão T. C. Speedwagon and @Aliceee ]
[ With the fighting being over, the country starts to try to rebuild itself. Various shinobi find themselves at Ranzaki. Either due to being part of one of the armed forces or being sent to commit to a task. Asami puts three genin underneath her control as she decides to put these genin to good use: doing 'totally legal' labour! ]

Watching from her spot Asami had a good view on what was happening. The three attempted to help. But it was clear that things weren't going great. For a good reason.
Ottome was the first to start but it was clear that something was holding her back. There was a lot that Asami could guess on. But judging by the fact that Ottome had been present during the siege? Asami wouldn't rule it out that the girl had seen some of the grim fighting.
Reyna? Asami left out a sigh. As tough as Reyna had acted back at the camp, as weak she was now - emptying her stomach in the middle of the street.
Locating her gaze on Jin, Asami's mood didn't get any better. It was obvious that the Saemund didn't do much better. While he continued, he seemed bothered down by the scenery.

None of them were ready for the cruel realisation of war. And yet, they had no choice now.
Leaning slightly back, Asami considered her options. She could do something to help and relieve the three. But instead, she opted to just keep watch.

Most of the people on the street didn't respond to the presence of the genin and chuunin. Not even when Reyna started to puke, many just carried on without a second thought or glance in her direction. The heavy labour of carrying the debris and bodies away continued.
Then horns resonated, the howling sound piercing through the air. For a moment, many would glance up. Only to continue what they were doing.

Ottome didn't feel so well. All that she wanted was to get away from this place. Preferably as far as her legs could carry her. But hearing something Ottome twisted her head. To catch sight of Reyna puking.
Staring at the girl, Ottome's hands balled into fists. Turning fully towards Reyna, Ottome started to step towards the former. Once Ottome had closed in some distance, she did feel her stomach twisting ever so slightly. The scent and appearance of puke was most unwelcome, after all.
"Hey," Ottome started as she was unsure where to begin. Placing a hand on Reyna's shoulder, Ottome attempted to portray nothing else than a friendly stance. "Come, let us go to the side. We will get through this together." Ottome further stated, hoping that Reyna would come over to the side. At least, then she wouldn't attract too much attention or be in anyone's way.
Looking up Ottome tried to figure out where the guy was. She was certain that they had been joined before. How was he doing? Maybe it would be best if they stuck together?

When the convulsions stopped, Reyna groaned. Her hands were pressed against the cold stone and the sight of her own vomit met her gaze. As the smell wafted up, she gagged once more, but managed to barely contain the next wave of nausea from spilling out. Closing her eyes, the girl felt a hand on her shoulder and jolted at the unexpected contact. Reyna spun around, catching sight of Ottome and relaxing ever so slightly before a wave of embarrassment flooded through her. Blushing profusely, Reyna tried to quickly wipe away the vomit around her mouth, inadvertently smearing some of the blood that still covered her hands across her cheeks. Wiping her hands, the girl nodded and shakily got to her feet.

Following Ottome away, Reyna heard the horns blare out and looked around, uncertainty filling her once more. When the others around them appeared to go back to work, she tried to calm her nerves and glanced towards the older girl. "Do… do you know what those horns were for?"

Jin looked around, his face brushed with concern towards the sound of the horns. His gaze would flick through the civilians as the young Genin tried to locate the other two members of his team Ottome comforting Reyna. Jin could see the vomit on her sleeve, the small chunks that reminded him of the morning porridge, he would keep a straight face, holding no judgement towards his young woman, but he'd shake his head again at the situation, however deep down he felt fortunate, fortunate that his mother was not apart of lifeless bodies that littered the street. Lightly sighing the boy would make his way towards his teammates, a calm look on his face as he approached. "I would like to know that myself too." He said, making his presence aware. "Are you alright?" he said both looking at them.

Glad that Reyna came along, Ottome flashed a smile - attempting to portray friendly but barely managing to hide her worries and stress. The question that Reyna posed only seemed to provoke a subtle shrug from Ottome. Honestly, Ottome had no idea. And she dreaded several things from being the case. However, the case was that no one seemed to be panicked by the sound.
"I wouldn't fret too much over it," Ottome began as Jin joined them, "if it was something we should worry about, then I doubt they would just continue work," Ottome further stated as she threw a look at the civilians.
"Oh, I am fine." Ottome said as she realised that Jin had posed such a question. "Just a tad anxious, seeing, well, you know." The girl gestured subtly to their surroundings.

Fighting off another wave of embarrassment as Jin approached, Reyna turned from him, glancing at their surroundings instead. Ottome's words did not bring her too much comfort, but Reyna focused on her breathing, trying to calm her racing heart. She managed to steady herself to the point where she no longer felt like throwing up, but that didn't stop her nerves completely. Small sparks arced around her shaking hands and near her eyes as her Lightning Aura reacted to her increased heart rate.

As Ottome mentioned the sound did not appear to be something to worry about, Reyna hesitated, her panic easing ever so slightly. The sparks around her eyes faded, but some still remained, dancing around her fingers. She did not reply to Jin's question, still embarrassed. Instead, Reyna turned back to the street, purposefully avoiding the spot she had fallen. "Let's just try and get through this," she muttered unhappily, starting to move further into the streets.

"I understand."]/color] Jin turned to view the suffering once more, taking in the sight, thinking how fortunate he was not to be part of the dead or the injured. He noticed Reyna's change in mood and did not question anymore, believing it was best to just get through their tasks. The young Genin pointed to the direction he came from. "Don't go over to the rubble pile there, I saw something I wish I hadn't." Jin said to Ottome, the images of what he saw flashing through his mind, causing him to squint his eyes, as he began to feel uncomfortable. He would attempt to hide it by turning away to put on his red hood that covered his head and lower face, to cover his facial expressions.

"You guys don't need to," the voice of Asami resonated. Dropping on the ground from her previous spot, the Sanosuke briefly dusted off her shoulders before turning her gaze upon the three genin.
"There is a change in plans. Follow me," Asami instructed the genin before turning around and started to walk in a decent pace - seemingly uncaring for the fact on how the genin were feeling about what had occured mere moments ago.

Another horn blew in the wind, causing more people to briefly halt and wonder. But the majority continued their affairs. And Asami couldn't blame them. There was no reason to panic yet. For the horn signals weren't followed by a volley of burning projectiles or a rain of steel from the heavens.
Heading to one of the main streets, she saw guards creating free space for what could be mistaken as a parade.
There was the temptation to take it to the rooftops but judging by the amount of guards abound, Asami reckoned that it was better to wait and watch from a distance on what would occur.

Ottome was about to respond back to Jin, unsure what he meant. But seeing the current situation, she found herself not entirely curious. When Asami's voice sounded, Ottome twisted her body around towards the jounin.
The fact that they were going to do something else was a relief. But also a source of worry. Deciding to not linger too long with the thought, Ottome followed the Sanosuke. Despite being intimidated by Asami, it felt better and safer to follow the woman than to continue being confronted with the aftermath of battle.
Once arriving at one of the main streets, Ottome frowned. She hadn't seen such a sight before, wondering why the guards were creating free space. Perhaps there was a parade going to happen? But seeing the state of the country, Ottome doubted it was going to be one of those fun ones. With the large paper animals and colourful banners.
Noticing that Asami seemed content waiting, so did Ottome. Waiting and hoping that nothing bad would follow.

The sudden voice behind them made Reyna jump and spin, her hand immediately traveling towards her weapon. Upon seeing the jounin, however, Reyna's eyes narrowed and the girl frowned. Folding her arms across her chest, more to hide her quivering hands than anything, Reyna listened as Asami gave them their new orders. There was a small sense of relief as she realized they no longer had to try and clean up on the streets, but the girl feared what else they were getting pulled into…

Watching as Ottome followed the jounin, Reyna sighed and fell in line behind her. It didn't take long to arrive on one of the main streets and the girl wondered why they were suddenly stopping. Debating for a moment to ask Asami, Reyna knew better than to question the woman and held her tongue. Remaining alert for any danger, the girl would simply wait.

Jin would follow behind Reyna, being the tail of the three, he kept his gaze ahead of him, trying to ignore the corpses around him. Thoughts and answers of the plan being changed raced in his head, but later would be silenced as the group came to stop. He awaited Asami's next order, observing what was ahead of him in the distance.

For a while, Asami just stood and watched - being silent as many of the crowd. There was a clear anticipation as well a tangible tension rising among the civilians, each person clearly curious on what was happening.
Then it all became clear to Asami as others.

Banners were held high, representing the royal dynasty of Ranzaki, by Hojo soldiers. Marching in a strict unison, the formation of soldiers was followed by some samurai on horseback. Their straight backs and impressive equipment radiated a sort of authority, that seemed enough to quell any desire of a troublemaker to do anything stupid.
The mounted samurai were followed by more components, which seemed to indicate that there was indeed a parade. As it appeared that the Hojo brought back the Ranzaki heir back to the capital, Asami's features became grim.
"Follow me," Asami began as she promptly turned on her heels and started to walk from the direction they came - leaving the starting applause and cheers of many behind her.

"We are going back to the camp. Seems there is some change abound. And you guys need some training." Asami stated, her tone sharp and indicating she wouldn't accept any backtalk. "After all, it seems the civil war is over."

The parade caused some confusion, at first, with Ottome. She stared at the marching soldiers, the banners and all that was present at the scenery in front of her. Judging by the expressions, cheers and applause, it became clear that this was a good thing. Yet as Ottome threw a sideways glance at Asami, she wondered if she should also feel either joy or applaud. If she wasn't mistaken, the woman was a Sanosuke. A sworn enemy of the Hojo.
Turning around as Asami gave new instructions, Ottome quickly nodded and followed suit. Only to throw a look over her shoulders, to the parade that still continued.

When the parade had started, Reyna grasped for her weapon before realizing they were not in immediate danger. The crowd still made her nervous, however, and the girl shrunk back slightly. The crowd seemed rather... happy..., which further confused the girl. Normally she would be excited about a parade, eagerly watching the proceedings. Today, however, there was far too much chaos for the girl to really get into the mood. When Asami announced they were heading back to camp, relief flooded through Reyna. Maybe things would start getting back to some semblance of normal now...

Kirigakure, Aito Aijin

Once Aito was given his instructions and the rally point, or the signal to a shift in where they would meet, he made his way to the market area. The genin did look out of place but he would do his best to act natural. He had to get something out of someone, or else they may not get a lead. Walking up to a stand he looked at the wares, the merchant eyeing him warily as the young boy looked over the fabrics. "These are really nicely made, how much for a set?"

The older woman was silent for a moment before she spoke. "It depends on the material but most are a few hundred. Silk, velvet, cotton, some are easier to weave, more in stock, others are a bit harder to come by." Aito looked over the fabrics, seeing a difference in some. "So the less abundant ones would be more expensive? How did you get them?" There was a brief silence once more, the woman not saying a word. Rummaging through his pocket, the genin pulled out some money. "How much is the blue one there?" He asked with a smile yet the silence still lingered. "1,400 yen." She finally spoke up. As she held her hand out for the money.

Getting the money, Aito placed it in her hand before picking up the fabric. "Enjoy your purchase." She smiled for once and the genin gave a bow before moving to another stall. Walking up to one adorned with trinkets and oddities, the older man watched Aito as he approached. "Good day sir, can I look at your wares?" A nod was giving as the boy looked about. Little figurines and nicknacks were displayed on the stand. Taking one in his hand he looked up. "How much for this shiba one?" Again, silence lingered before the man spoke. "700 yen." Taking the money out, Aito handed the man the money. "And be careful young man. That lady you did business with, like others here, can be shady. Could be carrying out smuggled items on your person. It seems times have come to that. You could be mistaken for another street urchin, trust few, if any." He mumbled in a hushed tone right before the genin stepped away from the stall.

"Street urchins, Karuko definitely should hear about that. But at this rate I won't have any money left and there are so many more merchants." Aito sighed as he knew at his age, money wasn't filling his pockets and any he saved was better off kept for emergencies. To the next stall he went, a couple seemed to be arguing as he stepped up. "With everything going on we are losing profits to the other merchants." The woman stated before her husband replied. "We aren't the only ones. Chu has been scrapping by, Toriyumi barely makes anything. Yet that cabbage asshole Mister…" Looking at Aito the man stopped. "Welcome, sorry about that. Would you be interested in some jewelry? Maybe for a special lady? Or a nice embellished knife for your father?" Gazing over the items the shinobi saw a few things that seemed high quality and out of place. He wondered if they were some of the smuggled goods spoken about by the old man. Seeing a simple ring he tried it on and smiled. "How much?" The two whispered for a second before the woman replied. "For you, 800 yen." Handing over the money he bowed. "Thank you, also can I ask, who were you talking about just now? The cabbage guy?" The man grumbled. "Mister Tahori, he insists everyone loves cabbage and that's why he is always selling but I don't buy into it." With a thank you he left to find this notorious Mister Tahori and spent some time looking for his stall.

"Mister Tahori?" He asked as he approached. Aito had found the infamous cabbage stand and the guy behind it. "Ah yes I am, have you any business here?" The genin nodded. "I just heard a few people talking about how they love your produce. So I had to see it from myself. What makes your stand sell so much?" A smile was on Tahori's face. "Everyone loves cabbage. It can be used in so many meals. Raw, steamed, boiled, it's a wonderful vegetable." He gawked as he seemed to be stating exactly what Aito had already heard from other vendors. "If so, even street urchins like it?" He asked boldly as Tahori laughed. "Of course, why are you asking? Oh are you looking to feed the others? The blue fabric tells me you rascals have done it again. But I haven't seen you here and your outfit tells me you are a shinobi. Why not buy something and I won't call you out?" He seemed to shift his facial features as he leaned closer.

"700 yen and you will get your cabbage and go." Tapping his foot he held out his hand. Aito thought of refusing but from everything he learned, something definitely was up with the area. And something was going on behind closed doors. Handing Tahori the money he took a cabbage and left without a word. From stall to stall he heard different stories but held onto the things that stood out. Tahori for one, street urchins and smuggled good, revenue being short and apparently a person whose accent was from the mainland. If these were true then it would mean they had somewhat of a lead on who could be causing all the strain with the merchants. Making his way back to the rally point he grumbled as he lugged a few things with him, and little to no money. He had hoped it was worth his savings.

Events in the known world.

This GM post serves to bring news and rumours of what happens in the world. While some events might be vague rumours, twisted by the many mouths that spin the tales into something unimaginable, there are many more occurrences that will impact the clans and nations across the known world. Some of these events might be orchestrated in secret or even openly by nations and clans, in a bid to weaken their neighbours or rivals. At the same time, some events are the result of decisions (or lack thereof) in any shape or form.

The current year is 477 ADS,
The current month is the begin of April,
This GM post is not without plots and secretive actions of others.~

In the West.

[ Wind Country / Sayyadian Kingdom ]

d5qmtec-e8bcaf75-a99a-45b3-9e6b-226c80c6130c.png
The Sayyadian Kingdom has stricken first. Assembling various armed hosts, the vanguard has been split into multiple smaller detachments - striking out and raiding numerous outposts of the Fang. The rapid response to the declaration of war has seemingly caught the Fang forces off guard, who rapidly prepare to defend their fortified positions.
But the Sayyadian Kingdom hasn't just encountered success in the early phase of the conflict.

Various problems have arisen with the mobilisation of forces. Numerous accidents have taken place that slowed down the Sayyadian forces. Spoiled supplies, various campfires and what not have all taken place. Though street-heralds state that the Sayyadian military will crush the Fang and drag their foe through the streets, at the end of the conflict, some have doubts. Worries are arising that this conflict won't be as swift as the heralds state it to be.
More so, those who have a keen mind in military affairs are well aware that the real fight will be much more challenging. Taking the fight to the Fang's homelands means pushing through the mountain passes. Entrances that are narrow and dangerous, only to be fortified and guarded by hostile troops.
Some military experts that have taken an interest in the conflict have voiced their concern what will happen if the Sayyadian direct troops into the Claw country - where numerous revolts are taking place.

[ The Earth Country]

unknown.png
The strife between the two major factions that vie for dominance and influence in the Earth country have fully lashed out at each other. The fighting at the border with the Iron country hasn't yet simmered down, but various clans and their forces have stricken out. Raids are being conducted, and more troops are being assembled.
Various mercenary companies are being contracted, and more are eagerly travelling north, in the hope of landing a good deal with a clan or one of the major factions involved.
What is causing this conflict to be different from various other succession crisis is the fact that a lot of pressure is being put on the Tsuchikage - who has yet to elect a side to join.

Some speculate that if the conflict heats even further, it may attract the attention of foreign powers. Already, some elements of either side in the succession crisis worry about the involvement of the Lightning Country. Signs of paranoia about foreign operatives already seem to be showing, with people of foreign origin being arrested or worse. Merchants of foreign origin are barred entry to various cities or hubs of trade. Multiple people of Akinian and other neighbouring nationalities have been imprisoned and tortured already. Much to the chagrin of clans and nobility in the Earth's neighbours, who are unhappy with the unfolding conflict.

[ The Empire of Akino ]

[ The Fire Province ]
[ The Senju Clan ]
@Nim

Peace is returning at a steady pace. The mysterious looting and ravaging of the Senju land slowly become a thing of the past. The benign governance of Lord Senju has started to take the desired effect. To the point where much of the minor nobility has shown new appreciation for the young and learning Lord.
But news of Senju diplomats is reaching back. The various emissaries send to the neighbouring clans don't all come back with prefered information.

The diplomats send to the Tokugawa clan is still occupied with explaining the situation to the northern Senju neighbour. While that hasn't led to much worry, a much more apathetic answer has come from the Hon clan.
The Hons answer is described to be relatively neutral with a cold undertone. While not direct neighbours with the Senju, the Hon clan's attitude is far from friendly or supportive.
Responses from the emissaries that were sent to the Sarutobi clan have yet to bring much better news. Much colder than the Hons, the Sarutobi have refused to acknowledge the Senju story. They claim that if the Senju reinforces the border with more troops, they will take it as a transgression or worse: a preparation of war.

[ The Tokugawa Clan ]
@Oblivion666

Without much of a reply back to the Senju diplomats, a specific influence within the Tokugawa clan has risen. Some of the nobility that governs lands bordering the Senju have raised their concern about the Senju development. Not to mention that they are concerned others will point fingers at them - using the past to place the excellent name of Tokugawa as scapegoats.
But what has caused tension to rise within the court of Lord Leo Tokugawa isn't of Senju or Tokugawa origin. It is the small and subtle presence of the Cho clan, which are to oversee that the treaties between Cho and Tokugawa are held honourably. Slowly but surely, it is becoming clear that the Cho clan demands an answer from the Tokugawaku clan as well, regarding the Senju diplomats. While the words haven't been uttered; the Cho clan views the presence of the Senju emissaries as a breach of trust and friendship.

Soon, Leo Tokugawa has to make a decision. And then to bear the consequences that come with it.

[ Hyuuga Clan ]
@GlitchyBugger

unknown.png
News is slowly spreading throughout the Empire. Nearly a week ago, bloodshed occurred within the Hanta clan. In almost two days, the Hanta clan got usurped by the Unkei clan; which used to be a mere subject of the Hanta.
The Unkei clan has claimed most of the prior Hanta heartlands. Save it for one bastion of independence that is wavering to join with the Unkei. Some speculate that the hesitation is due to the zealous attitude that the Unkei clan has taken. Others wonder if the uncertainty is due to the imminent response of the crown. For many do wonder if the Unkei indeed prevented high treason.

The region which was named Tatetari, in which various settlements reside, have reached out to another Taika clan; that of the Hyuuga clan.
The reasons for this action is likely due to the fear of the region's minor nobility; to be oppressed by neighbouring Tokugawa clan or the Unkei usurpers.
It is yet unknown what the Hyuuga clan will decide; if they will start negotiations with the people of Tatetari or leave them to their fate.

[ Hyuzu Clan ]
@ChromeHound

unknown.png
The fact that the Tamiyo may send the caught operatives has caused new events to be set into motion. All findings have been sent to be shared with the Imperial Crown. However, a few of the messengers haven't been able to reach the Imperial capital nor managing to travel far from the Hyuzu compound - before found death and dumped into a ditch near the road. All messengers death seem to indicate robbery by highwaymen, but it may be more sinister planning.
A dispatch has been made with more guards to escort the prisoners to the Imperial capital - so that they can be handed over to Imperial agents for future investigations.

An attempt has been made with Yamanaka seers to delve into the minds of the prisoners - with certain restraint to prevent memory loss or causing death. The request of the Hyuzu leadership to insert something into the minds of the prisoners has awakened the Yamanaka clan's curiosity in the particular case. Already whispers are marking it clear that a Yamanaka delegation is travelling towards the Hyuzu compound - with most curious haste to their pace.

With the Empress, however, still travelling from Kanazawa to Amthyr, it is unclear yet what consequences the Hyuzu decisions will bring.

[ The Fief of Matsukotan ]
@FrostedCaramel

Recently, the Miyazato clan was graced with being allowed to govern the fief of Matsukotan. Almost immediately, the Miyazato clan went to work, in a most diligent fashion. Starting with a survey over the land, the Miyazato clan would begin to gain knowledge of the land. They were even able to discover a site for a stone quarry in the south of the fiefdom.
Being a small clan without a large treasury nothing more than plans could be drawn for the development of Matsukotan. However, a deal was signed between the Tamiyo and Miyazato clan.

Now able to invest appropriately into the fiefdom, the Miyazato clan already has started to gain some loyalty of the region's residents. Projects are beginning to take shape and bring the promise of prosperity to the fiefdom and causing even a small migration from other neighbouring fiefdoms to Matsukotan.

In the North

[ The Dominion of Lightning ]

[ The Ranzaki Dynasty and Hojo Clan ]
@Oetje

unknown.png
Peace has returned to the North, at last. Preparations are made for the grand coronation of the new daimyo of the Lightning. At the same time, the Northerners are taking other arrangements.
More troops have been sent eastwards, to aid the campaign against the nation of Rong. On the advice of the Hojo clan leader, the imminent lord of the Lightning has announced various decrees.

The first is that the sovereignty of the Lightning needs to be secured. The most massive threat at hand is Rong, in the far east - which has been meddling with the affairs of the North. To protect their independence, Lighting forces have been mobilised and sent to the Sky country. Their purpose? To conduct a campaign into the region of Lagyre, to prevent Rong from invading the Sky country.
Many thought that the Sixth Raikage would be leading this new wave of reinforcements towards the east. But instead, the new leading commander of the Northerners in the east is; Miyara Ueda.
The stern man who is known as the Blade of Miyara has already sent various messengers to the host of Satoshi - ordering the Jun to bring his forces to the northern point of the (eastern) continent.

Furthermore, messengers have been sent to the Imperial and Republican leaders on the eastern continent. Without setting afoot on the east, Ueda has requested them to share knowledge on their enemies as well clarifying that he would deal with the Lagyrians - asking the Imperials to focus their sources on the middle ground.

[ The Northern Clans ]
@Nim , @Aliceee , @Oblivion666

Another decree has been to summon the important clans, both of the Lightning and the vassal states. They ought to travel to the capital, Ranzaki, to pledge their fealty to the Dominion of Lightning - as well be allowed to voice their concerns and ideas for the future.
This meeting will be overseen by the advisor and confidante of the soon to be coronated Lightning Daimyo, Mareo Hojo.
With word being sent out to the clans and vassal states, preparations are already entirely being undertaken; to prepare the capital for the arrival of the influential clans and families.

Yet, there some tension building. The haunting memories of the short and bloody civil war are still fresh. And some fear that this may be the perfect opportunity for some of the clans to avenge their fallen.

[ The Scourges of the Northern Waters ]
@Nim | @Aliceee

9cb2959612440bc9bd98a485b37fe39e.png
Wealth and trade flow through the northern waters, notably that of the Gaikotsu and Aisu bay. While being less profitable than the trade that goes through the Kaizoku sea or the Kanashi Ocean, the trade in the northern waters is a vital source of employment for many. Business exists with the people that border these northern bays and much wares are being sold for Akinian silver shields, silver yens and what not.
Interestingly, in these frigid waters is where many cultures and clans come together to conduct commerce with each other. Traders from the Akinian Empire are largely Hons or Framí that seek to sell their wares; such as furs, timber and iron ore. A small fraction of Hons travels to the west, to the heartlands of the Hyuzu clan within the Earth country. This small group exists of warriors that eagerly sell out their martial prowess to serve temporarily as bodyguards and fighters for the Hyuzu. Most notably of these Hons are the Dowhons, who have made nearly a tradition out of it; to then return with prestige, experience and wealth home.

Many Taika traders in this region originate from the likes of the Rice, Lightning, Earth and Waterfall country. Wary as they may be of the other cultures or nationalities, they are more than eager for their wares or coins.

But with trade and wealth being abundant in this region, there has always been a risk of pirates. These scum tend to originate not from a particular clan or culture, for the allure of wealth has drawn many. Some of these pirates are hired as privateers to sabotage trade rivals, creating a fierce competitive nature in this region.
However, lately, a large number of attacks have transpired.

Various vessels of Saemund origin have started to attack other ships and convoys. Most of these victims have been that of the Earth country, with only the ships sailing the Hyuzu flag being left unmolested by the Saemund.
But others have been attacked by a much more powerful scourge; the Sanosuke clan.
The conclusion of the succession crisis has allowed the Sanosuke to pull their forces back and focus on more on their ambitions. And unlike the Saemund, the Sanosuke pirates have started attacks on a much larger scale than before. The black sails with the often menacing symbols already claimed many victims - much to the dread and anger of many others present in the northern waters.

In the South

[ The Republic of Water ]

[ The Republic ]
@Nim

d8ju0zc-09ffb790-476e-432b-8d44-973284eadac9.png
The Republic diligently works further on her goals. It is clear that the very top of the Republic, run by Jirou Kanbe - the proclaimed dictator. Unrest hasn't yet been driven out of Kirigakure or other islands of significance.
Yet the presence of the Republican navy has prevented the unrest from swelling further, to a far more dangerous state.
Various clans have, however, started to voice their concerns about the new regime. While taxations and trade flow back to Kirigakure, an assembly of dignitaries are arriving - forming a coalition of clans that desire to speak with Jirou about the future of the Republic.

Meanwhile, the quarantine of various districts is still in effect, with the ineffectiveness of the medicines and acquiring knowledge of how the crystal blight spread; the Republican regime has come with a new approach.
Crystals of victims are carefully extracted - usually from those who died. These extracted crystals are then being subjugated to various treatments - experiments tending to prevent further growth and reducing the crystals to an unharmful state. The most prominent being a lightning shock treatment - which already seems to be quite competent at combating the blight.
In secret, several shinobi teams have been sent inside the area. The disappearance of various families led to some panic, but assurance quickly follows; for the healthy are being separated from those suffering of the crystal blight. Though some folks are sceptical of this new approach, it has caused more to grow loyal to the new regime; proclaiming that it genuinely is caring of the commoners.
The further positive development is the steady decrease of the quarantine zone - as the healthy are separated from the sick.

[ The Republican Vassal States ]

The sent envoys have continuously been at work, to talk with the various Republican vassal states - as informing the Republican's top about their progress. This approach has led to some more friendly attitude from the O'uzu island state. Leading to some fascinating knowledge of a cove where Rongese vessels as troops are taking place. Offering to help ambush these foreign troops, the O'uzu state request some aid in projects to support development in various areas. Not to mention increased military assistance and protection from further Rongese actions.

The Nagi island state, however, has yet become the source of direr news. In response to the incursion of demons, the Republic has sent a team of jounin to investigate what happened. Keeping in touch with the local authorities, this team of Jounin managed to find a trial of the possible culprits. However, a few days after, the communication between the Kiri jounin and local authorities died out.
Coupled with that, a small flotilla of Republican light galleys have gone missing. Some survivors claim that it is the work of the demons that came in the night; that they were laying in wait and have eagerly devoured the Republican aid. Or worse; dragged them to their twisted world of pain, hate and torment.
The local authorities that have been in touch with the Kiri jounins have sent the information back, allowing the Nagi state to inform the Republican envoys of what they know; that the next possible target is a few villages west of Fuijtama.

In the East

[ The Campaign against Rong ]

The fight against the influence and troops of Rong is continuing without much of a respite in general. The theatre of conflict has been categorised within three regions; respectively south, centre and northern front.

[ hr][/hr]
[ The Southern Front ]
Most important commander: Yuuki Narukami, General of the Republican Forces in the east.

The southern front is being occupied by Republican and Imperial Akinian forces. Despite the tension and wary that these allied forces have for each other, they have managed to work to achieve goals in a precarious cooperative state. The Imperial 13th Brigade has managed to break through some Rongese bastions, allowing the Republican forces to deal with locals and various small Rongese taskforces.
Managing to conquer ground and coming into contact with various resistance forces present in the fractured kingdom of Sevudia, the southern front has yet to gain any rest from bloodshed.

Constant skirmishes occur at the gained territory. And while most of these encounters result in an allied victory, some officers start to doubt how long they can keep this trend going - for there seems no end to the Rongese scum.
Yet, the Republic has deemed it necessary to send reinforcements - totalling the Republican forces to 13.000 troops on the eastern continent.

[ The Centre Front ]
Most important commander: Hiron Hon, Major General of the 3rd Imperial Division.

unknown.png
The centre front has seen some small skirmishes. The most notable fights have occurred between Rongese soldiers and operatives, facing the Tiger Claws - who have started a relentless hunt. Though many operations are launched from their current headquarters, the Imperial Akinians have been aided by Satoshi Jun's forces. Only with the recent orders, the Northerners underneath of Satoshi's command are preparing for a hasty trek to the northern front.

Many aren't yet aware of how the Imperials will react to this decision. Some lower-ranked officers and soldiers are speculating that the 11th brigade will be recalled from the northern front, to reinforce the centre front.

A most intriguing development has been the arrival of Senju forces. These troops have arrived underneath the command of Kamina Senju. Bringing forth more supplies and troops, the Senju now become a most vital auxiliary force to the Imperial 3rd Division - with the Senju numbers ranking to the thousands.
This development has caused some within the 12th brigade to wonder why the Senju have sent forth so many troops. Most consider that the Senju are so profoundly invested to reap favour and rewards from the Imperial Crown. A few worry that the Senju have become more militantly interested, ever since the dreadful raids on their silk farms. Some even ponder if the Senju are attempting to gain back their status as a Great clan, willing to shed Rongese blood for it.

[ The Northern Front ]
Most important commander: Miyara Ueda, Chosen General of the Northerners on the eastern continent.

The arrival of more Northerners has caused some unrest in the Sky country to dwindle. Preparations are still being undertaken underneath the watchful leadership of Miyara Ueda. But operatives and scout parties have been sent out; to set figure out the best way to navigate through the fractured kingdom of Lagyre.
The presence of the 11th brigade, however, has caused some delay in Miyara Ueda's plans. Messengers are travelling back and forth, with the Northerners requesting the 11th Imperial brigade to leave the northern front to them.
As expected, the Imperials aren't too keen to be bossed around by the Northerners - stating that they want to finish their current operations before taking up contact with the Major General.

Some tension has risen but notably because of the frustration between the constant communication. So far, the northern front has been the most peaceful with not much Rongese resistance against the allied forces.

[ A collab between @Oblivion666 and @Aliceee | After relocating and travelling in secret, Mika picks up the training with the two jinchuriki. But the training isn't what Aya expected - or at least, the initial phase. ]

Early in the morning, Aya would receive an awakening. Not a rude one, as one might have expected from Mika. A few gentle taps were given on the girls head to try to wake her up. The awakening wouldn't go along with the scent of freshly baked breakfast. It was being forced to see the mess and debris that surrounded Aya. The mess that she was in now.
The door was open and in clear sight, Mika was waiting outside. The jounin had her hands on her hips and seemed to either enjoy the sight or be on the watch.

It wasn't hard to wake the young woman, her sleeping spot while she had some cushion to it wasn't the best spot for sleeping. Rubbing her eyes as she looked around, she saw Taishiro still asleep but their teacher outside seemingly happy. It was a bit rare to see her seemingly peaceful but she wasn't going to question it. Standing up from her spot, she would walk outside and stand beside Mika as she stretched her arms above her head. "Mornin sensei. Did you sleep at all last night?"

Turning her head slightly to throw a sideways glance at Aya, the features of Mika betrayed her amusement. Unlike the days before, there wasn't the strict expression that seemed plastered on the woman's face.
"I did. First thing that you learn in ANBU is how to utilize sleep. Don't worry, I will teach you those tricks later." Mika turned her gaze to the sight in front of them. The lower lands that laid out in front them as the sun rose in the distance, its light dancing on the waves that gently seemed to roll on the coast.
"For now, we can just enjoy a bit here. I figure that nobody will look for you here." Mika continued, her tone a bit softer. "Has it been bothering you though? The bijuu?"

A ANBU trick to utilize sleep? Sounded like barely sleeping but it didn't seem like Mika was horribly tired so it must work. It was a curious thing though, yet for now she said they could just enjoy it a bit where they were. Aya would turn her gaze towards the sunrise which did make her smile softly, it brought back some memories of her youth, her attention while still on the colors she would offer a shrug.
"It's hard to say. What I told you before is still pretty much all that's happened. I tried communicating with it a couple times yet…. It continued to treat me like dirt. So I just ignored it. I guess it feels odd that anyone with the right skill set could turn me into a walking bomb."

Nodding to signal that she listened and understood, Mika didn't reply. There was a brief tranquility that seemed to settle in. After a few seconds passed by slowly, Mika spoke up again. "Good thing that you're with someone who can help you prevent that." Mika said as she would turn and gesture Aya to follow. "I got a clone watching over Taishiro. I want to separate you two during training. I am not a fan of having two jinchuriki starting to train close."

As she started to walk, the area that they were heading to had little vegetation. There was a slight climb but the hills seem to be lacking any tall vegetations. "I used to train and watch over a jinchuriki, before you were assigned to me," Mika began, "she used to be… quite bubbly. Her understanding of the rougher work was lacking a lot though. But she had some spirit."
Mika became silent and her pace became slower as they seemed to reach the top of the hill.
"I only learned later that she died. Not sure how but I got my idea that she just wasn't strong enough to be a jinchuriki." Mika gestured to Aya to sit down next to her.

"So to prevent the same from happening to you, I want to focus first on you. Making you stronger. Both in here," Mika gently poked Aya against her head, "and here," the jounin poked Aya against her shoulder.
"Seeing you already have proven to be strong when it comes to holding your ground, I want to work on the mind. I want you to focus first on your breathing. Empty your mind and then try to say what is most bothering you. I don't care what it is. Try to let it out."

That was a bit reassuring that she could prevent that sort of thing. She didn't need to be the reason the six tails got unleashed twice on Kiri. Following her sensei she would nod along to what she was saying, she became a bit more silent when it was mentioned she trained a previous Jinchuriki. Her description of her student sounded like she was a rather innocent girl, made her wonder how she became a host.
Sitting next to Mika she listened to how she planned on making her stronger. Mentally she didn't think she was lacking but then again, she was probably lacking compared to a lot of people.

The first thing though was to just state what was bothering her most. She never really had much time to think about it really. She always tried pushing things that were a problem to the side instead of letting them bother her.
She took a minute to think about it before taking a breath in and exhaling.
"Sometimes I feel like a curse I suppose. My clan died but I lived, almost all of my teammates have died, yet here I stand breathing." Aya said rubbing the back of her head a bit flushed. This made it sound like she was vying for attention.
"I just wonder if I'm to reason, if I have some sort of bad curse on me that punishes others."

Mika listened to what Aya said. She had a hunch on what could have been bothering Aya. Sadly, it wasn't as easy as: "I like that boy, but he doesn't like me back" or something of that sort. Leaning slightly back, Mika placed her hands behind herself.
"And what would you do if you indeed were as you put it, a curse for others? What do you think would be the proper solution to make sure that things get better?"

The next question made her look at the ground and shrug. "Nothing to do about it. I trudge along like I always have. Even if it means I'm the last one standing when everything blows up." Aya said before mumbling something. "Granted some of them I didn't mind losing."

"But it does sound you're not content with the it." Mika stated, as if the fact had to be voiced. "And this is what I meant. You aren't a soft egg, Aya. You got some determination. But like everyone, you are not perfect."
Letting her words sink in, Mika was using the time to formulate what she wanted Aya to understand. "It isn't easy to come with solutions. The first step? Is to acknowledge what is bothering you. Now, the hard step comes and that is wanting it to change."

Chewing on the inside of her right cheek for a second, Mika decided to throw a look at their right - to the sight of the distant beach and waves of the sea. "Imagine that you just could, for example. How would you get rid of a problem like that?"

"I don't think I could if I tried honestly. Genso died but he was an idiot who got killed by a Roc when he was told to stay down. Shin I actually had hope would live but he died due to mistakes on his end. Shit I don't even remember the other two that's how long they lasted. None of those I could change. Yet maybe if I knew more, maybe if I wasn't so young and weak. Maybe I could have saved more lives. Maybe Kiro wouldn't have done what he did, if I had just been a bit stronger. Maybe Hiro would still be around if I hadn't begged him to take me out that day." Aya said her voice somewhat cracking as she progressed before kind of just staying quiet a bit.

Remembering some of the deaths that Aya summed up, Mika had seen it coming that Aya would mention Hiro. Truth be told, Mika wasn't sure what the correct answer would be. Or if there was even a correct one to begin with.
"We all start out alone, weak and young. I can say that it isn't this your fault. Nor what other people decide to do. Sad fact is that we tend to also grow old and turn weaker." Realising that this was far from motivating, Mika released a soft sigh - more out of irritation than anything else.
"I understand it weighs heavy on you. But lets imagine that you were stronger. And you could have prevented some people from dying. In the end, someone dies and another person wants to avenge them. So would strength really solve that much?"

Frowning at her words, she bit her lip a bit as she held back her words that probably would have come off aggressive. Then she did what any reasonable person would do and used her logic against her, which only caused her to pout and grumble. Yet she would shake her head, that it indeed wouldn't change anything. She sort of just let her head sink into her arms as she watched the sun rise.
"Then what should I do? If getting stronger isn't the option then what? I'm a goddamn walking target for anyone thats wants a annoying ass slug that only complains when you try talking to it."

The display of Aya unable to respond, likely realizing that she was lured into a trap to think more about the exchange was both amusing and a sign that the girl was thinking. The last being an act that Mika had desired more genin did these days.
"You are already doing something. You think and question what you should do." Mika stated, aware that this could lead to more frustration. "You are quite a big target. Though don't worry, it is part of my job to make you seem less of a nice target."

Letting a pause follow her words, Mika continued. "And getting strong isn't just the key. Experience, intelligence and understanding. You know? The things that require more than just repeating some punches or practice."

She gave her a rather perplexed look on how she planned to make what most nations vyed to steal, a less of a nice target. So when she said the last bit she giggled a bit as she rested her face on her hand. "Sooo is this where I say my Taijutsu could also use some work?" Aya said a bit sarcastically, granted it could but she was never really good at that to begin with.
"So what are we going to start with first? You aren't going to try and make me talk to Sluggers again are you? Something tells me he will either yell or just not be of much help."

"Only just your taijutsu?" Mika began, her eyebrows slightly perking up. "But I suppose today will include a bit of physical training. As for talking with that slug? You will technically need to. But merely so that I can get a bit of an understanding of how the seal is placed. Before I can start to tamper with it, I need to be sure I fully get how it cranks and functions."
Pausing, Mika raised a hand and gently ruffled Aya's hair.
"But not to worry. It will be fine."

"First thing we are going to do is try to focus first. I want you to try to relax as much as possible. Then we are going to pay your big friend a visit. It will be on our term, so we don't have to worry much. As long as you don't get agitated and allow him to find a weak spot in your defense? You and I will be fine. Else? I will get expelled and you will be likely getting knocked out cold within a few moments, to prevent you from raging around."

Physical training sounded decent, she was sure later on it was going to get a bit more brutal. Then again they had time for all that, granted she wasn't sure how long that time would be spent here. She might keep them moving just to stay ahead. Her next words though confused her. They were going to talk to Sluggers? She could bring Mika in that place? Although she was confused about raging around she gave a nod and smile. It was reassuring knowing she wouldn't be alone at least.

Taking a breath in and out she would nod. She would close her eyes and simply just think of happier times honestly. While it hurt they weren't around, she still had memories of happier times with her family she could think about. Then a thought came to her head, she would open her eyes as she looked at Mika. "Have you actually ever met my brother? I just realized you both were in the same profession, same rank too before his situation happened."

The questions of Aya were surprising Mika. To the point that the woman couldn't either hide it or be able to respond right away. The subtle change of Mika's lips curling slightly down indicated already how she wasn't too keen to talk about it.
"I didn't work that much with him. He isn't my kind of… guy, to really appreciate or work with. But he is a pro at taking down a target. Bit of a boaster but one that can back it up, sadly." Mika began. "But I never imagined that he was capable to do what he did.."

Realizing that this was likely the worst topic to talk about and make Aya relaxed and focused, Mika figured that being too vague or mysterious would just give rise to more questions and perhaps frustration.
"You want to pursue your brother?"

Aya would end up shrugging at the question. "I do, but more so to know why he did what he did I suppose. I knew he was a fighter but he never was crazy. So it just doesn't make sense to me." Aya said softly but would give a smile to Mika. " He's probably long gone by now though. Maybe he fled the country and went somewhere else….. You think once I'm stronger we can try going back to the Oda compound?" Aya requested knowing the last couple times they tried went very very poorly.

The answer was followed by a silence. Mika briefly glanced at the scenery, the sea that could lead them back to Kirigakure or further away from it. "Sometimes, it doesn't need to make any sense." Mika said, her voice a bit softer. "As for the Oda compound? I don't know. What is there to find? What is there to do?" Mika decided to ask in return, turning her gaze back upon her pupil. "Though if you want to go, I'll go with you."

Aya could only shrug at her question of what was even there to do or find. "Not sure, that's why I want to find out. Some things had to have survived the fire. Then again I don't know if the ones in charge took anything when all was said and done, but I appreciate you saying you'll come with." Aya said before smiling and taking a deep breath in and exhaling.
"Okay….. I think I'm ready to see the mean ol sluggers. Who knows maybe he's calmed down a bit." Aya said giggling a little.

[ A collab between @ChromeHound and @Aliceee | Kiyomi is travelling together with an envoy towards the site of Amthyr, a city that is being founded. But the travel isn't without any danger; for it is part of a secret operation that has been orchestrated by various high-level detachments of the Akinian government. Prepared for the ambush with an entire plan, it may very well diminish the Zealots presence in the Empire or hand over the most valuable Akinian asset. ]

So far, things had been peaceful. No sign that they were trailed. No reason to be wary or hostile, yet. But that didn't stop Kiyomi's hands to itch. There was no reason to doubt Zakito's plan, for it had covered so many factors. But still, Kiyomi had a few personal preferences that she wanted to deploy. Yet, she was aware of why Zakito had designed his plan as it was currently.
Throwing a glance at the dark window that separated the comfortable interior of her carriage from the outside world, Kiyomi's right hand moved to grip a piece of cloth.
With the envoy moving at a slow pace, there wasn't no telling how far or close they were to their goal. Several times Kiyomi was confident that the enemy would launch their ambush. However, the critical moment would be heralded by one of Zakito's assets.

Raising the cloth in her hand, Kiyomi would tie it around her head. The old bandanna of Hiron giving her a sense of relief.
"Soon enough, it is show time," Kiyomi thought, "Then we just got to follow the plan for a bit. And then we can go loose."
A moment passed as the envoy continued at a slow pace forward. Eventually, it would pass by the sight that provided near-endless amounts of meadow and grassland for soft hills, crested by woodland.

Seeing the subtle change of terrain, Kiyomi flexed her fingers. She had checked her gear and was most ready for what was to come. However, she had to resist the allure of not making a run for the place that was designated as 'safe'.
Anxious for the signal, Kiyomi listened intently. For it would be a booming sound that should alert them all about what was going to happen.
Listening, the ears of Kiyomi didn't catch anything else but the soft crackling of wood and muffled sounds - the faint rustling of the Sworn Swords in their gear or the sounds of the mounts.
In all of a sudden, there was a soft sound that penetrated all. It made the windows softly vibrate. The ambush had begun.

Within a minute or two, the envoy was beset from two sides. Various zealots and mercenaries charged from their hideouts to storm and take their desired prize. The cracking of diverse ninjutsu being flung into the air would collide as the Sworn Swords responded swiftly to the expected threat.
Licking her lips, Kiyomi waited for the signal of the next step. Before she could do something, she threw a look over her shoulder. The sound of wood splintering and caving underneath a heavy pressure made her move into action.
Quickly moving aside, the chakra that started to cleave the carriage in half missed Kiyomi by a few precious inches.

A face came into Kiyomi's vision. One of the mercenaries that readied his weapon, his lips barely parting as the expression shifted from satisfied to surprise.
Before the mercenary could pose any other danger for the Akinian empress, a blade swiftly moved and dispatched the foe in a slash. No fancy tricks or moves, only pure strength accompanied by lethal accuracy.
Before the cut-off head of the mercenary touched the ground, Iroh was already moving on to the next target that attempted to reach the damaged carriage.

Moving out of the carriage, Kiyomi took a glance around. The fight wasn't going bad. Even despite the numerical advantage that the zealots and their accomplices posed, the elite Akinian operatives were capable of handling the situation. Dedicating her attention on finding a path through the chaos, Kiyomi released a sigh.
Turning to the forest to the right, she would move her hands together as she started to sprint forwards. Channelling chakra to her feet, she tried to fight against her desires to remain at the site of the battle.

Managing to dodge various fights, Kiyomi noticed that a few individuals started to pursue her. Deciding to put her channelled chakra to use, Kiyomi speedily acted. In quick succession she managed to scale up a tree and use it as a springboard to direct herself at another tree, her speed amplified by the build-up chakra.
For a brief moment, Kiyomi managed to win some distance from her pursuers. The soft whistling of a projectile passing her by alerted Kiyomi that the hostiles weren't lagging too far behind.
"Idiots," Kiyomi thought to herself as she would keep using some chakra to boost her speed, rapidly and agile moving from branch to branch.
When one of the foes started to close in, a blur intercepted the hostile individual. A grunt was all that could be heard as the blur took down the individual.
Detecting some confusion from her pursuers, Kiyomi scoffed as she continued on her way. She would let Kensuke have his fun. For now, she would have to keep on going.

It took a few minutes before Kiyomi detected something. Forced to adjust her course quickly, various projectiles just barely missed her. Throwing a glance to the right, she could promptly notice a group of individuals that started to pursue her.
"Almost your turn," Kiyomi thought as she would quickly move for a lower branch, avoiding a few arcs of chakra.
Landing on the branch, Kiyomi held her hands together. The chakra that was concentrated at her feet started to flare up, giving a faint light before Kiyomi took off.
With rapid speed, she started to surge forwards. Her sharp eyesight was allowing her to manoeuvre and avoid getting slammed against a tree or any other object.
Various times, Kiyomi was forced to act and make an evasive manoeuvre. The foes that were tailing her didn't seem able to catch up but neither get too far behind.

"There it is," Kiyomi mused upon sighting a large hill up ahead. There was an entrance that seemed to welcome her into the void of the hill.
With the last push, Kiyomi forced some more chakra to launch herself as fast as possible towards the entrance.
Landing on the ground, she wasn't able to skid to a halt but had to perform a few rolls before she could recover from the manoeuvre.
Getting up, Kiyomi mumbled a curse. It was clear that she wasn't on the level of either Sakamoto or Zakito when it came to processing speed and handling it. Realizing that both men would have been able to handle such speed and manoeuvre with way more ease, Kiyomi reminded herself that she had no time to admire or ponder further.

Running into the darkness, Kiyomi already started to work on the next stage of the plan. But for that, she would require his aid.
"Showtime, Mata. Unless you don't want to have some of this fun." Kiyomi signalled through her thoughts, still running through the dark halls that seemed to be adorned by strange markings.

A low growl could be heard in her head before a blue fireball burst into existence. Keeping pace alongside the girl, Matatabi narrowed his eyes. "You think I'd miss this?" the fiery feline grumbled. "I was beginning to think you were going to keep me cooped up in there." Taking a glance over his shoulder, the beast could not yet see anyone following them. That didn't mean they wouldn't be on them soon, however...

"So when do we get our turn to play, hmm?" Looking back up towards Kiyomi as they ran, Matatabi continued, his tone sarcastic. "Running is fun and all, but it's been too long since I've been able to let off some steam."

"Soon," Kiyomi replied as she kept running. The dark was driven away by the presence of Mata's fire. Yet, it brought a sense of doubt and frustration as she continued running with the Nibi through the dark halls.
"I lure, you flank," Kiyomi messaged through their link, her tone sharp. Taking a turn to the right, she thought that she could hear their pursuers. "If you play nice, I might actually let you fight with a bit more chakra than usual. How about that?"

Continuing along his path, Matatabi grinned as Kiyomi mentioned she might allow him more freedom than normal. "That sounds rather enjoyable indeed," he purred. It did not take long for his keen ears to hear the sounds of their pursuers closing ground. Splitting from Kiyomi, he took one last glance over towards her. "I hope you know what you're doing," Matatabi sent through their link, "my 'bright' personality makes me stick out down here like a sore thumb… Not exactly stellar for the whole element of surprise thing. Perhaps I should could just shoot some fireballs back down the halls and turn this place into an oven?"

The thought amused the large cat and he purred once more, "Then we could enjoy a nice meal after~" Remembering something, he let out a sigh of disappointment. "Though… I suppose you don't eat people and all that… Oh well, more food for me."

"Sadly no, I am a bit pickier than that," Splitting off from Matatabi as she flicked her wrist, generating enough lightning to light the way ahead of her. Throwing a look back, she already had an idea on how to make sure that the captives would come after her direction.
Lightning sparked even more fiercely between her fingers, illuminating the area even better. Overhearing footsteps following her into the hallway, Kiyomi threw a look over her shoulder.
Even with her sharp eyesight, she couldn't entirely figure out how many individuals were following her.
"Your turn hotshot. You fire from their rear and I will be awesome from my place."

"Oh, with pleasure~" Came the reply of the fiery feline. Taking a deep breath, Matatabi stretched his jaw wide, unleashing a wave of blue fire that swept through the hall between himself and Kiyomi. The fire lit up the hall as if someone had flicked on a switch, but the flames blocked out Matatabi's view before he could see how much damage he'd caused.

The screams of at least two individuals could be heard, however, and the beast purred internally, satisfied.

The flames continued to burst forth, raising the temperature in the hall significantly. The only thing Matatabi wished to be cautious about was going too far and burning Kiyomi. The girl could certainly be a handful, but he would not allow harm to come to her. Especially considering his life was currently tied to hers. That would make things even more of an inconvenience...

Hearing the flames slamming against the walls, scorching people alive, Kiyomi quickly turned around. Already having gathered and moulded lightning chakra Kiyomi would raise both her hands. The lightning jumped from her hands and formed a barrier in front of her.
"Tch," the sound escaped Kiyomi's lips as she felt the heat slamming against her defence. Once the heat started to vanish, Kiyomi would not hesitate but to dismiss the lightning barrier.
"Come, we need to get to the inner room," she instructed the bijuu summoning, already turning around, "if we want to get to the seal that is."

Letting the flames fade, Matatabi observed the carnage with a satisfied grin. Hearing Kiyomi speak, he glanced back up and sighed. "Fine, fine." Moving up to join Kiyomi, he muttered under his breath, "Fun spoiler." Gathering up next to the girl, he glanced back over his shoulder before looking up to Kiyomi. "After you~"

Waiting for a few seconds, Kiyomi allowed Matatabi to catch up with her. She ignored the comments, clearly focused on their objective. Yet, Kiyomi couldn't ignore the sensation of delight upon the burning of their foes. She was in the middle of making a mental note to later do something with the corpses.
A rasping sound echoed through the hall, rapidly catching up with Kiyomi and the Nibi. Quickly, Kiyomi lowered herself and rolled to avoid what soared towards her head. Various sparks lighted the area where a metal chain slammed against the stone wall.

Getting to her feet, Kiyomi threw a look over her shoulder.
"We keep going," she told Nibi, only focusing on running faster to reach the desired area. It was just a turn or two away, if she remembered the instructions correctly.

Matatabi heard the sound a fraction of a second before it flew overhead. Thankfully the feline was not his regular size, else the chain would have hit him. Not as if it would have hurt the Bijuu however if he'd been at full size, but still… it was an inconvenience and it meant there was another target for him to barbecue. Spinning around, the cat snarled.

"I'll catch up." he replied to Kiyomi, locking his eyes on the enemy wielding the chain-whip. "Seems like someone wants to play~" The man yanked the chain back, sending it hurtling towards Matatabi with surprising speed. Darting to the left as the weapon smashed into the ground, Matatabi snarled again, launching a stream of fire towards the enemy.

Upon registering that Matatabi stayed behind to fight, Kiyomi nearly stumbled and fell flat on her face. Managing to stabilise herself, she slowed down to then throw a look at the situation. It frustrated her that once more, someone else was covering for her. Biting on her lower lip, she would once more proceed to run down the hall - her stomach slightly twisting as a cold sensation ran down her skin, her anger slowly replacing her frustration.

The man moved swiftly, faster than Matatabi had anticipated, and the fire streamed past him. Muttering under his breath, the fiery feline charged forward, hoping to catch the man off balance. A noise behind him caught his attention, however, and Matatabi was forced to dive to the side once more as the chain came whipping past him, missing by inches. Opening his mouth wide, Matatabi focused his chakra and a large fireball began to grow. "Let's see you dodge this," the cat thought, before spitting the fireball down the hallway.

He was answered by a pained howl and the smell of burning flesh. A smile formed on the feline's face before he turned and started following Kiyomi once more. "Problem solved~"

Still moving towards the room where they had to go, Kiyomi only threw a glance towards Matatabi as he joined her. It didn't take long afterwards for them to reach a much spacious room. The bright light originating from Matatabi allowed them to see that there was enough space to field two entire training fields.
Slowing her pace, Kiyomi would move towards the centre of the underground hall.
"And here we now wait," Kiyomi mentioned to Matatabi through their link, "if nothing happened then there should be a seal incorporated into this room. Meisa once explained how the Royal Palace is also build in a seal, we should experience the same here."
Yet, Kiyomi had to admit to herself; she felt no different. Nothing that empowered her in the slightest. Which created briefly the fear that Meisa had perhaps betrayed them.
"When the enemy comes, we fight together. Which means, we stick together, okay?" Kiyomi stated as she briefly knelt, her hands checking on the hidden dagger at her left boot.

Entering the room behind Kiyomi, Matatabi quickly glanced around. The space was indeed huge, which would allow for them to let loose a little more than they usually got to. "And how exactly are we supposed to know if this thing is working?" he asked the girl beside him, rolling his shoulders to get the knots out. The beast would be happy to unleash a nightmare of carnage, should the opportunity arise, but he didn't necessarily trust that the others Kiyomi had put her faith in would actually allow them to play. Turning his focus back to the entrance to the large room, Matatabi scratched behind one ear. "I don't suppose they'll come in single file either, hmm?"

Certain that she could draw the knife, Kiyomi stayed kneeling down. Her heart didn't skip a beat, despite her anger and frustrations. The attire that she wore was nothing more than to conceal the protective gear underneath it. Rising up, she would start undoing the likely dress to relieve herself from it.
"I don't know. I suppose we got to trust the one who informed us about this place." Kiyomi replied, well aware that it wasn't nearly enough to convince Matatabi. "It is the same source that informed me of this ambush. Judging by how many we have taken down and that none of the Sworn Swords, Kensuke or Zakito have reached us? I don't suppose they will come in a single file, yeah."

Flexing her fingers, a bit of lightning jumped between Kiyomi's fingers - the menacing sound indicating the intensity of the lightning. Reminding herself of the information that she had studied regarding the ambush, she started to rule out who of the enemy could still come at them. There were still a few names that she was most wary for, if they would manage to slip into the underground hall. Before she was able to perform another check at her gear, Kiyomi's eyes narrowed.
"I heard something. Seems we are going to have our first guest," she alerted the Nibi. "I think it's best if we conserve our chakra as stamina for now. Just in case we need it to whisk ourselves away with that technique."

Tempted for a moment to request some more chakra so he could increase his size, Matatabi decided against it. The girl might need everything she could get and he was more agile when he was smaller. Less powerful perhaps, but that wasn't something the fiery feline was willing to admit.

Scoffing as Kiyomi mentioned they would just have to place their trust in the one who had told them about the location, Matatabi furrowed his brow. Opening his mouth to make a snarky response, the Bijuu froze as a sound caught his ears a fraction of a second before Kiyomi indicated she had heard it as well. Letting out a low growl he nodded. "Very well," he grumbled when she mentioned they should conserve chakra, "I'll try not to play with my food too much~"

Bashira nodded as she received her orders Karuko-Sensei, and made her back up the fence to scout some of the roof tops while her teammates did their respective parts. She made her way to the first roof top she could find reach from the fence, and carefully inspected it for any clues although she wasn't sure what she was looking for. Bashira searched the whole roof, and stopped when she came to some loose roof tiles. She didn't want to sound an alarm for nothing, so she didn't say anything about it yet. Perhaps this area had some heavy winds and rain? Shaking her head the white haired girl continued her inspection and went on to the next roof.

This roof was similar to the other one, and most of it seemed fine until she again came to some loose and moved roof tiles. Could this be from what happened on the other roof? It seemed to odd her that the house next to the last one would also have the same roof tiles moved in the same fashion, and it was beginning to feel like it was indeed something suspicious. Bashira jumped back on the other roof, and inspected the tiles that had been moved there before coming to a conclusion.

These tiles were not moved from a storm, no, they had been moved by somebody and not a storm. She went on to the third roof, and inspected it which she again found that some roof tiles had been moved in the same place as the other two roofs. Her suspicion only grew when she noticed some strange objects on the roof near the moved tiles. At a closer look she saw that they were arrows, but they were missing their steel tips. Something was definitely amiss as she made sure to carefully pick up the arrows she found on the roof, and put them in pack before moving on to the next roof. This time she went directly to where the tiles had been moved in corresponding roofs, and like the last three she saw that the tiles had been moved again. At a closer look she discovered a dirtied cloth tucked under one of the moved tiles and gingerly moved the tile off it to get a better look at it. Bashira couldn't determine what was on the cloth, but she bet her sensei would know.

[ Eastern Continent | 11th Brigade, Axebiters Brigade / Meilin's Unit ]
[ A collab between @Autumn Song , @Oblivion666 , @FrostedCaramel , @RedFox , @Aliceee and @Oetje ]
[ A meeting has been organised between the Lagyrian natives and the 11th Imperial brigade. With a meeting arranged, the Imperials prepare to secure the area and readying themselves for any potential dangers. ]

Resting a hand on the hilt of her sword, Meilin had her back towards her unit. She had woken them quite early. Both to make sure that they were fully awake by the time they were supposed to muster. And to make sure that they were each fully ready. The mission didn't sound like a difficult one, at all. Just guarding and being on the lookout for trouble.
Realizing that trouble could be something small and rapidly escalate was something that gnawed on Meilin's mind. In truth, she didn't like the fact that these people from past the mountain pass had contacted them. But she was supposed to follow orders. And she was going to make sure that her unit would.

Noticing no other than Lady Cho approaching the mustering area, Meilin threw a subtle look over her shoulder. Her eyes narrowed, eagerly on the lookout for anyone that dared to look out of order.
When the command came for them to march, Meilin would repeat it and lead her unit. From what she was further told, it was going to be a long trek but, at least, today didn't seem as cold as before. While they couldn't enjoy the full warmth of sun rays, blocked by the mountain range at their east, the signs were there that it was going to be a beautiful day.

After marching for what seemed to be roughly three hours, a rider would approach Meilin's unit. He spoke briefly with Meilin, causing the Cho to turn towards the twenty-four troops behind her.
"Listen up," she would raise her voice, "we are going to be sitting nice and tight on a nearby hill. Stay in the current formation and at the same pace. On me."
That told, she would turn and lead the troops towards a nearby hilltop. It provided flat space easily for two platoons of Akinians to rest out. The sight that the top provided quickly delivered the reason for why they were stationed there. At their south, they could oversee the nearby meeting - between the so-called Lagyrians and Lady Cho's retinue. And in the north, they were able to spot movement easily from afar.

Splitting the unit into various groups, Meilin would inform her platoon that they would take shifts. Allowing one group to rest comfortably on the hill, perform small tasks as another would stand watch - alerting Meilin and the others if trouble was occurring.
Able to gain some respite from the long trek, Meilin would find a comfortable spot to sit down. Placing down her shield next to her, she would release a soft sigh.

Content with the current situation, Hylli enjoyed the sight that their hilltop provided. There was some curiosity about what kind of sceneries and mysteries the land north of them held. Not to mention these Lagyrians, were something that Hylli desired to learn about. Knowing, however, that she was supposed to be at her position, she learned that she was part of the group that didn't need to stand watch, right away.
As activity on top of the hill started Hylli did waver. She had yet to feel comfortable around most of the platoon. Upon sighting, however, their lieutenant taking a seat Hylli decided on something.

"Lieutenant," Hylli started as she tightened her grip on the shield she carried, "I hope I am not of any disturbance. But mind if I settle here, for a bit?"

"Ah, Hylli," a voice resonated behind Hylli, only a second later revealing it belonged to Dagrún. The blonde Hon placed her shield down, to drop on her rear a second later. "Ye should join us. Even if the gods are kind, it is unlikely that anything interesting will occur."
Throwing a glance at the direction of the meeting, Dagrún frowned before speaking again - clearly addressing Meilin at this point. "What do ye think? That we can expect trouble from the likes of them? They are barely armoured. Look more like a bunch of brigands, eh?"

"Feel free," Meilin responded to Hylli. With the situation requiring not much from them, Meilin picked a few blades of grass before releasing them. The soft breeze taking the few pulled blades of grass and blowing them to the north.
"I don't like them," Meilin responded back to Dagrúns question, "but I don't call the big shots. If they will be friendly, then I suppose we play just as nice."

Although Aoi would have been far more content being on the first watch, she had been delegated to the resting squad along with the rest of Team Four and a number of others in the platoon. Standing idly by as those on watch went to take up their positions the girls mind began to wander as she looked over the vantage that the hill afforded them. Turning away from the scenery and the thoughts it brought forward she made her way over to where Dagrún, Meilin, and the new Hyuzu were talking over something.

Opting not to take a seat on the cold ground Aoi would move to stand near the three, listening intently as they spoke in Chonobi. Rubbing her hands together to ward off the cold she tried her best to pick out phrases and words she knew, stitching them into something she could understand as best as she could. Though a few of the words and phrases were lost to Aoi she was able to make out the general gist of the conversation about the Lagryians, and though the thought of responding in Chonobi crossed her mind she was pretty sure she didn't have the proper hold on the language to make any meaningful comments of her own about the Lagyrians.

Speaking instead in Taika she added her own take on what was going on below, "Maybe they can help us. Could be they hate Rong just as much as the rest of us." Aoi shrugged as she tossed a glance back in the direction of the meeting between the General and the Lagyrians, "Might be they're useful."

He didn't mind being on rest for the time being, it was far more relaxing on his mind than to be chasing fleeing cloaks or squints again. Setting up his shield and resting his bag on it, he would notice that the females all started having a conversation in Chonobi. Nothing bad but sadly they spoke much faster than he could translate it to himself…. so he stopped and smiled as he looked up at the sky. He caught some words, something about the meeting so he figured they were discussing boring old work. Then Aoi started speaking in Taika which he now had a better guess at the conversation…. still he chose to ignore. Instead he hummed to himself as he looked onward at the hill where the meeting was.

Doing his best to keep his mind focused on the current task, Mamoru took in every single word Meilin said towards them. His morning preparation went on a lot quicker this time, mostly because he prepared his tea the night before. He stood among the assembled troops, giving brief nods to his teammates and other members of the unit. Upon seeing none other than the famed Lady Aiko Cho-Hon approach their unit, Mamoru noticed Meilin giving them a glance over her shoulder and he checked out his gear. It was clear, in perfect condition, together with his other equipment. He checked his forehead protector and after finding everything to be in order, he tightened it even more. When the order came down to march, the unit moved as one, and Mamoru followed suit. The march was a quiet one, everybody was focused on the task at hand. His eyes scanned the scenery, looking out for possible ambush - none came, to his relief. As they made the short alteration of their direction, they took up positions where Meilin instructed them. Upon learning his shift won't come for quite some time, he headed towards where he saw Meilin, Dagrún and Hylli already chatting.

He approached them just as they were discussing whether to trust the Laryngians. As he didn't want to interrupt the discussion, he just sat down and nodded at everyone present, hearing out the response of his mentor. He didn't understand the Chonobi discussion at all, but his best guess was that they were debating their current situation. Once Aoi joined the discussion, he nodded his head at her words."I agree with Aoi. We should be open to any possible allies on this continent. But on the other hand, we should also remain cautious. We don't know about their motivation to call for this meeting. But, according to the reputation Lady Cho has, this should turn out fine. Else." Instead of finishing, he just shrugged. He did not want to think about how things would, or could, develop.

Meilin remained silent. When Mamoru, however, finished she would speak up.
"Let us hope," Meilin stated, turning her attention towards Madoc. There was an idea that sparked in Meilin's mind.
"We could try to pick out what is being said. However," Meilin faintly smiled, "we got our orders. And right now, nothing bad is occuring."
Throwing a look at the North, from where presumably these Lagyrians came from, Meilin wondered about something.
"We will swap the watch soon. Madoc," Meilin threw a sideways look at the Yamanaka, "I want you on sensor duty. When we swap rounds, that is."

Glad that she could join Meilin and Dagrún, Hylli was quick to settle on the soft grass. The fact that they were given a moment of respite was great, in Hylli's opinion. Her comfort was briefly disturbed as the Senju of before, Mamoru, joined them. Remaining silent and hiding away her slight discomfort of the Senju joining the small group, Hylli simply listened.
When Meilin mentioned that they could try to pick out what was being said, Hylli's curiosity was piqued. She wondered who had such ability to gather information from a distance. Upon Meilin informing them that they were going to swap the watch soon, with 'Madoc' being the sensor, Hylli nodded.
"At least, the weather is great," Hylli decided to state as she threw a glance at the place where the meeting was held, "imagine if it was raining. Now that would have sucked."

Though not entirely sure if she had been ignored or Meilin had decided to answer her comment along with Mamoru's, it wasn't anything she cared enough about to raise anything over. Turning instead to Madoc she took a few steps to close the distance between them and was about to throw a playful jab at his side when the new Hyuzu girl went and ruined it all.

Sighing and pointing halfheartedly at Hylli she shook her head, "Now you've gone and done it." she knelt down and picked up a few small pebbles as she continued to talk, "Just had to huh," she tossed a small pebble at the silver haired girl followed by another, the small stones making quiet little thuds as they bounced harmlessly off the girls clothing "someone always has to say it."

With a smirk she picked up more pebbles and continued tossing them at the Hyuzu, "Just had to talk about the weather." shifting her gaze she began to throw the pebbles at Mamoru for a moment, "Honestly thought you'd be the first one to do it." she smiled before shifting the target of the pebbles back to Hylli.

Dagrún had remained silent, briefly staring at the place where the so-called 'Lagyrians' met the top of the 11th Imperial brigade. Overhearing that they could try to listen into the conversation, Dagrún frowned slightly but stayed silent.
Sinking slowly into thoughts, the sound of soft thuds of pebbles hitting chainmail caused Dagrún to look at what happened. Amused by what Aoi was doing to the newcomer Hyuzu and inexperienced Senju, Dagrún leaned back.
"Great. If we are doomed to have bad weather, it is on ye," Dagrún joined Aoi as she threw the comment at Hylli. Slowly getting up, Dagrún dusted her pants briefly from any blades of grass.
"Know what would make this assignment great? Some entertainment." Clicking her tongue, an idea did brew in Dagrún's mind. But she was certain that any like of spar or contest wouldn't be allowed.

Twisting her head, Hylli looked at Aoi. Briefly, the Hyuzu wondered what she had done. The soft thuds of the pebbles hitting the armour and bouncing off didn't help much. But then it clicked in Hylli's mind.
"Oh crap," realizing what she had done, an amused expression flowed over her features. "Well, if it is going to rain, I will apologise. Shame there is no place to offer drinks in return. What a shame!"

Mamoru nodded his head in acknowledgement at Meilin's response, then silently listened to the banter of the group. There was a slight feeling of discomfort, slowly creeping upon him as the group chatted away. He could not explain it, he just felt it. He frowned as his eyes wandered around, through his teammates, to the distance where the meeting was taking place, back to the group. He was disturbed by quiet thuds of the pebbles Aoi was at first throwing at Hylli, as he talked about weather. He looked up at the sky and slightly shrugged, as he personally was not against rain. But you could wait till this mission is over, he thought to himself as he looked at the sky, as if talking to it. Then a soft thud disturbed him from his thoughts, followed by another. Aoi was now targeting him with the pebbles and he gave her a brief smile, followed by a chuckle. He then looked at Dagrún as she stood up, and he knelt down and picked up one of the pebbles, storing it in one of his pockets. Standing up, he headed away from the group. He, for one, would favor a rather boring mission this time."I hope we will be entertained in different ways than last time. " Nodding at Meilin, he then walked away, looking for a spot that offered a good view at the site of the meeting.

Following the further interaction among the few people around her, Meilin remained silent. She had to resist glancing at the sky to see how much Hylli's words hadn't already 'doomed' them.
Instructing those around them to replace the current watch, Meilin herself would take a position to overview the approach from the unknown north. There was no sign of any other force sneaking upon them or readying to charge forwards.
Only a gentle breeze that passed over them as they remained crested atop the large hill.

Time was moving slow. What seemed minutes were most likely seconds dripping by at a painful pace. Resting her free hand on top of the pommel of her sword, Meilin continued to stare northwards. A few times, the platoon changed watch and there was hardly anything to do to kill time. And more than talking wasn't allowed.

Frowning, Meilin thought she had seen something. Becoming suddenly more alert, the young woman tried to spot the movement again. It had been only there for a second but she had been sure. Staring at the landscape long enough made her certain that she had seen some movement. Were it those Lagyrians? Or was it something else?
Whistling hard, Meilin threw a look over her shoulder.
"Madoc, sense northwards. I saw something over there," Meilin said, "Everyone on guard. Keep your eyes peeled on the surrounding."

Madoc took his time to enjoy taking it easy before switching over to watch duty as Meilin stated to him. Giving a thumbs up to the whole sensory thing he went back to relaxing while the others joked to Hylli about talking about weather. It wouldn't be long though before he would have to get up and head out with the others for watch duty.
At first it felt like they left their break to go to a different location for another break. Spinning one of his daggers in his hand as he kept scanning the area, he would halt and look at Meilin as she asked him to sense northwards. Looking north to see if he could see anything he gave a shrug but nodded."You know I'm always up for spying. You want me to see if it's just someone being suspicious? Cause I can't really tell if its a Lagyrian from this far."

Standing guard for a while, Hylli had gotten used to the task. It did beat the like of being in an exercise where she had to constantly run, swing and perform to the best to avoid being tasked with more exhaustive stuff.
Overhearing what their lieutenant stated and Madoc's reply, Hylli would half turn around.
"Lieutenant, I can go with Sergeant Yamanaka," Hylli decided to say, "just to be sure that he won't be alone if there is some trouble."

Dagrún was bored. Shifting her weight from one leg to the other, she considered some options to kill the time and boredom. But before she could think of anything, Meilin's voice disturbed the Hon's thoughts.
Listening to what was being said, Dagrún half turned around. "Best not to send pretty faces all alone. I can keep our little gem safe, lieutenant," Dagrún offered, "perhaps even do some track work in case his sensory can't pick up what we are dealing with."

Meilin considered her options. She threw a look at the direction where she had seen something. Something was gnawing on her mind but she decided to speak up.
"Dagrún and Hylli. You two will advance towards that direction," Meilin instructed, pointing to the direction. "Madoc, use your sensory technique to keep an eye on him. When you two find anything," Meilin turned her attention back to the other two, "alert back with using a technique. Madoc should be able to pick it up with his sensory. The others, stand guard and at the ready."

Nodding to emphasis that she understood the order, Hylli felt her heart skipping a beat. Trying to not show off any anxiety, Hylli half turned towards Dagrún. Giving the blonde Hon a subtle nod, Hylli would wait to accompany the other. It could very well lead to just a walk but it sure would kill time faster than to stand guard.
Resting a hand on the hilt of her weapon, Hylli debated asking something. However, she opted to remain silent for now.

A smirk grew on Dagrún's lips as Meilin gave out her orders. Rolling with her left shoulder, Dagrún would turn towards Hylli. "Let's go," the Hon simply stated before she would start to descend from the hill, towards the direction where Meilin had spotted something.
Reaching the base of the hill, Dagrún waited for Hylli to catch up before continuing. "Just follow my lead. I might be able to teach ye a few tricks about tracking," the Hon said, her mood evidently much better.

Watching as Dagrún and Hylli made their way down the hill, Aoi couldn't help but to feel apprehensive as the pair moved into the trees and out of sight. Shifting her gaze to Mamoru and then Madoc the girl paced a bit before squatting down near the Yamanaka, "I don't like waiting here while something is happening." she stated to no one in particular before she trained her eyes back in the direction of the people that Madoc had sensed.

That one looks like twenty, maybe thirty years old, the Senju thought as his eyes were scanning the view from the position he was at currently. He was observing the area surrounding a magnificent pine tree, then his eyes moved to scan another area. For all he knew, since they started rotating their posts, a few hours could pass. Or days, who really keeps track, he ended his thoughts about the passage of time. As he was about to shift his vision once again, Meilin's voice cut through the silence, alerting them to a possible contact incoming from north. His eyes darted to the direction, but they picked up nothing. In a pace, and with firmness that amazed Mamoru, Meilin gave out orders. Making a few steps towards Madoc and Aoi, he exchanged a brief look with her before taking up a spot slightly in front of Madoc."Well, Dagrún wanted some excitement. Amazing how this continent makes wishes come true, isn't it?" He,personally, hoped for something less exciting than their previous mission.
