Biography:
"Yes sir, I am indeed a courier, not one affiliated with any particular service, I'm Courier Twenty-One, and while I have walked many long roads, been many places, out west to the lands of the North California Republic,
to Zion, to east of the Colorado River, and beyond, and while I can handle myself, don't mistake me for being as capable as the one called The Courier, no one can lay claim to being as legendary as that one..."
Deckard was born to a family that has lived out on a homestead to the North of New Vegas, territories out in Utah, close to New Canaan and the more peaceful tribes. Originally his family had lived in the New California Republic, but the predatory business practices of the cattle barons encouraged them to live somewhere they could live in relative peace.
The Kings were large and prosperous enough that they were able to afford to set off as pioneers, to form a family away from NCR and build up their own life. Carrying with them the supplies they needed to build a farm and home out in the relatively untamed wilderness of old Utah.
Over the years they built up a good business, trading for what they needed with the New Caananites and forging relations with the peaceful tribes in the area to make it easier to form caravans to move out to New Vegas, and from there to NCR held lands.
This lifestyle is what shaped Deckard, growing up he learned to be a hardworker tending to the crops, the livestock, as well as fending off would be predators, or the hostilities of tribes like the 80's, there was no need to worry about the White Legs, an individual known as 'The Courier' had helped Joshua Graham drive them off, and they were shortly consumed by other tribes.
The Sorrows and Dead Horses were fairly good neighbors, not given to causing trouble unless given a reason, and the Kings avoided giving them one, keeping to their lands, not that the tribals were overly eager for conflict, neither tribe being overly warlike but also being aware that the King's weren't small, and were well armed.
Eventually Deckard once old enough went on with the caravans the Kings would send out, carrying produce and beef from their brahmin herds. They grew enough to produce not only enough to feed themselves, but to sell surplus to New Canaan, tribals, New Vegas, and even to people in NCR lands.
They avoided the dangers of inbreeding by mingling with tribals, and folks from New Canaan, and in truth the King's were technically a tribe themselves. Their business expanded eventually from not only produce and livestock, but in prospecting and...as Deckard took up himself, courier work.
Having shown himself to be intelligent, and a good shot, he took up doing work as a Courier, carrying packages and mail for folks, often alone, it was here that he truly began to grow into an individual, both in personality and skill, and began to see the Wasteland in detail.
Courier work has been his bread and butter for over ten years now, the work providing extra caps for his family, but also keeping them informed of events out abroad in the wide world, and giving them a feel for the market as well...
