Yukimi Yuki | Chuunin | Kirigakure

She liked the cold. Truly, winter was one of her favorite times of the year. The cold never particularly bothered her, things seemed to calm down and be a bit more peaceful. She could finally wear all those cute outfits that it was just too warm for any other time of the year. Not to mention, she loved the times it would snow. So serene, beautiful. But yet, the cold did not bring her any comfort this year. It almost seemed... different. Maybe it had to do with the rumors swirling around town? Like an icy breeze, they seemed to have pierced every part of society. She no longer saw too many outside for various reasons, heard tales of strangers at night. Though she wasn't sure if there was any truth to those. Even the mist that was ever so common in Kirigakure seemed to just be hiding new threats around every corner. Despite her usual apathetic attitude towards most situations, Yukimi wanted whatever was causing all of this to be stopped. It was ruining her favorite time of year and affecting her home. It needed to go, now.

Thinking these thoughts as she made her way through the city, the chuunin couldn't help but wonder just what the nature of the mission might be today. Traversing the city, Yukimi stuck to the most direct route to their meeting point. Figuring it would be best not to keep the others waiting. It wouldn't be long before she approached the meeting point, spotting two figures already standing there. Immediately, she recognized the man as Atsuko Uragiri. The sensei assigned to the team she had been a part of, though she wasn't exactly certain what the situation there could be. The other present, Yukimi did not recognize. Though with the mask she was wearing, Yukimi figured it was safe to assume an ANBU. For a moment she wondered what made their mission important enough to warrant an ANBU being present. Though she quickly pushed those feelings aside and forced herself back into her neutral state. Cold as ice, she'd always thought to herself. Emotions only got in the way, clouding your judgment. She simply did not have time for such issues.

Approaching the two, Yukimi stopped a few steps away. Looking first towards the ANBU, the silver-haired girl bowed her head slightly. "Yukimi Yuki, reporting for duty." She said in a polite, yet emotionless tone. Turning then towards Atsuko, she once again bowed her head. "Hello again, Uragiri-sensei." She said before falling silent, awaiting whatever came next. As she stood silently, Yukimi briefly checked to ensure the cannister's lid was still on. Else it would have been rather inconvenient to the Yuki. Checking the cannister was quickly, and easily done. Peace of mind, knowing she had one of her favored tools going into the mission. Something about the whole atmosphere made her uneasy again, that unfamiliar kind of cold she so disliked. Letting out a small sigh, she once again forced herself to let go of her emotions. Once again repeating her mantra in her mind.

Cold as Ice.

Mika Hayashi,

| Leader of Kiri Team 14| Republic of the Water Country | Kirigakure, capital of the Republic - In the Oda Compound |

It didn't last too long before the two genin would report in. Mika eyed them both and wasn't entirely certain if she should press on. Then again, they had their orders and it wasn't like that they were the sole unit that would move into the Oda compound to scout it through for any troubles. An objective that could be relatively easy if there wouldn't be any hostiles trying to halt them. Deciding to not linger too long on those thoughts, Mika beckoned the genin to come closer to her as she would explain the mission's objective and how they would tackle it.

"Okay, let us cut down to business right away. We will soon move into the Oda Compound. You both have with no doubt have heard that it is not the nicest neighbourhood in the city. But various distortions have occurred and a shinobi operative who was send to investigate has gone missing. Somebody with more experience, intelligence as skill to handle a scouting on his own. We will search for some clues as well to see if we can uncover anything else on our way. There will be some other teams who will move into the compound from various angles."

Introducing a pause Mika shot the members of her team a stern look. "We aren't going in there to wreak havoc among any possible hostile occupants. We are there to gather information for the squads that are more geared and having the numbers to do so. That means that I don't want to see any heroic bullcrap going on." Waiting for a second, she would gesture them to follow her. It was better to get this done over with as soon as possible.

The silence was 'heavy'. There was no sign or sound of anything living inside the compound. Only the soft howling of the cold wind passing through the street and Team 14 walking down the street. Some buildings seem damaged by fire or some past violence that had occurred. Mika frowned as she had heard that the Oda clan had suffered a bloody end with Kiro Oda's madness of some sort. There was some doubt of the jounin if he had been able to do this all by himself. Then again, she just had to look around and judging by what the records said, there wasn't any other theory that could debunk what she had heard and read. A moment later she wondered how Aya was holding her own. These streets, buildings and area were once her home. The place where she had her relatives and perhaps even some friends and neighbours, that she was acquainted with. All taken within a short span of a day.

"Let's check that building. Stay vigilant," Mika ordered as she nodded towards an establishment to their right. The door was caved in and the interior didn't seem to be spared from the violence. Furniture damaged and collapsed. A thick layer of dust, accompanied by stains on the wooden floor. Considering herself quite steeled for such scenery and worse tasks, she wondered how many people had been in here during the last few hours that the Oda clan had mattered. How many people had been trapped here before the violence and wave of death had hit them?

"Search the area but stick around." Mika ordered as she would crouch next to a spot. Eyeing the dark stain she wondered if it was blood or perhaps red wine that had been spilt. If it was blood, it was likely a lot if the jounin would need to conclude it by the size of the stain.

Kumogakure,
In the Raikage Office Complex.

A collab between Aliceee and Gerontis.

Summary:
Takeru is in his office, doing some paperwork and reading the reports on various movements and the conclusions of various missions. Only to be surprised by a person who is clearly anything but happy with how she had to enter back into Kumogakure.

[spoili]

A heavy sigh flowed from Takeru's mask as he would round up another report. There were various troubles rising between the border of the Sky country and of the Wolf country. Various incidents between the forces stationed at the border to repel any incursion and refugees to not allow any of those Zealots to pass in. They already were having enough troubles with those lot here, at home. Various small pockets were being discovered and dealt with. But for every cell of Zealots that got discovered and terminated, it seemed as if five different pockets of Zealots would go on the move and cause the progress to eradicate them to be slow down. Takeru wasn't certain if he should be impressed by the tenacity and creativity of their enemies or to curse them to no end as he felt becoming helpless.

What further made him start to worry was the news and development that reached from various clans. The Regency council's demand for various demands and reforms were rebuked by all major clans. Effectively causing a stalemate as the current regency council didn't have the necessary resources to topple all the combined clans that refused to the new restrictions. While that did comfort Takeru, knowing that there were many who weren't agreeing with the likes of the regency council, he didn't hope that this would prevent further rise of tension and disdain. But if he was in no position to prevent the further rise, perhaps he should try to make use of it?
Behind the mask, a frown would form upon Takeru's brow. He reckoned that he could interest a few clans with a suggestion to come together and discuss what should be done regarding the latest 'desires' of the regency council. If anything, they would form a united front that couldn't be overcome easily by the regency.

Only, how would a united front work? The Hojo and Sanosuke weren't the most compatible. Then there were some 'settled' clans that distrusted the nomadic clans and vice versa. Where the Lightning country perhaps was appearing to be united, it was far from being a perfect united realm. Just as he considered to start small, the double doors of his office would slam open.

"Fuck off!"

The loud sneer was aimed at the servant who attempted to calm down the angry woman who walked into the office. The guards at the door had simply saluted instead of attempting to halt the familiar woman. If she had gotten this far, the sensors had verified her to be the real Red Devil. "You and I need to talk, right now!" Asami hissed as she approached Takeru's desk. Nearing it, she would lean forward and place her fists on the edge of the table. Her cheeks had flared up with a light taint of red while her eyes narrowed. "I have been ambushed. Wounded. Then had to smuggle my way back into the damned country I serve and then only to be a bloody courier!"

Takeru blinked rapidly behind his mask. The servant who had attempted to halt Asami Sanosuke would be whisked away by the guards at the door as the double doors would be closed. Seemingly leaving the Fifth Raikage and his assistant to be alone in the spacious office. Her words caused him to be confused and unable to properly react back. "The Zealots, I assume? Regarding the ambush and wounding you."

A wry smile covered Asami's lips as she spat out a short laugh. "Oh, no. Those ships and men were sailing with and under the flag of the Ranzaki dynasty. Damn idiots tried to take me down to the bottom of the waters," she would continue to summarize the following events. On how she had washed up at the shores of the Eastern continent, only to be found by the allied forces operating there. Then once she had recovered enough, she had made way to the Sky country. Only to go from there to the Lightning country and discover the mess that was ongoing and growing. To then travel from the northern point of the realm towards Kumogakure, wary of any contact.

"And for your information, I don't like Keitaro Ranzaki. Too 'noble'. He is safe though, for now." Asami said, concluding her summary as she managed to cool herself down.

Takeru listened as he remained calm and collective. The fact that Asami had suffered some violence from those who operated underneath the Ranzaki banner was something that made him warier than he was before. It could very well be the Zealots that had orchestrated the attack. But what if the regency council was really behind the attempt on Asami's life? Hearing how she had managed to get back in Kumogakure, only to end up that she knew the location of Keitaro Ranzaki, made Takeru to shoot up from his chair. "You do? Where is he? The entire country is looking for him!"

Asami planted her hands on her hips as her head slightly cocked to the right, her eyebrows slightly raised. "He is safe, as I told you. He resides with a Sanosuke chief that can afford quite some security. Not to mention that he has this stoic bodyguard. Though they requested me to request you for aid to prove Keitaro's innocence. He claims, after all, that he hadn't murdered his father."

"A good portion claims that they don't believe he did. Another part does believe he would be so vile. And yet another believes that the Earth country is all behind the missery that we are facing." Takeru grumbled, both eager and dismayed by this news. Now that they knew that Keitaro was still save and had some support, who knew? Perhaps he could intergrate the young man into his plans in order to unite the clans that resisted the decrees and decisions of the regency council? The name and prestige that Keitaro's family name had should be a decisive factor, Takeru wagered. "I know it is a lot to task but could you travel back north and see if you muster some support of the Sanosuke? I will need to combine the clans together in order to prevent a mass civil war."

Asami's eyes narrowed when Takeru made his request. She respected and had faith in the man, she really had. But that didn't mean she had to enjoy or like the orders. Not after she had gone through a lot of trouble and effort to sneak southwards to Kumogakure, only to return back to the north. "Fine. I will make preparations but I will need some ANBU. If word somehow gets out that I made it back to Kumogakure, I am certain it will provoke more attempts on my life."

"Of course. You will have two elite ANBU squads to your command. Thanks, miss Sanosuke," Takeru said. He already was pondering on how to bring the other clans to the table without them finding it impossible if another said clan or party would be present as well. "Annoying politics..."

Taishiro Kanai | Team 14 Genin | Kirigakure

Looking around the remains of the tavern, Taishiro made his way off to one side. Deciding to search the side if the tavern near what seemed to have once been a bar. Searching for what exactly? Clues on the missing operative, and perhaps what was happening here. Basically anything out of the ordinary, he imagined. A thick layer of dust covered the ruined tables, and he had to be careful where he stepped. The boy noticed a few pieces of shattered glass on the ground, nothing recent. Bottles, glasses, whatever had been nearby. Shattered in the chaos that this scene betrayed once happening here. Moving slowly along his chosen side, Taishiro didn't notice anything out of the ordinary yet. He reached out and lightly touched a piece of the bar, which oddly remained standing and unbroken despite the state of the rest of this tavern.

Once again, he wondered about the violence here, and in the compound when all this happened. The Oda clan, which his teammate was from if he remembered correctly. As he thought of this, wondering how she was holding up in this situation, and what it all might've been like. He cast a brief look over in her direction, before going back to his own work. A slight frown on his face, as he wasn't sure he liked the atmosphere outside or in this tavern. He felt unnerved in it all, even as he walked around behind the bar and something caught his eye. Moving towards the object, Taishiro noticed a small necklace sitting on the ground. The chain was broken, and not much detail gave way to the owner or their life. On top of that, the thick layer of dust gave away that it was here for a while. Deciding to ignore it for now, he moved on to continue his search despite finding any real clues to... anything.

Another slight step, then Taishiro froze. Looking from side to side, the boy swore that he heard something. If only for a moment, though it was quite faint. Shaking his head, he soon enough dismissed it as nothing more than the wind and his own nerves coming together to play a trick on him. Turning his attention back to his search, Taishiro doubted he would find much of anything. Hopefully, his nerves wouldn't result in any more phantom noises. The last thing Taishiro wanted to deal with was things which weren't even there.[/fieldbox]

Aya Oda | Genin of Team 14

She knew exactly what her home had looked like, just what destruction had befallen it and the price it took. Yet no matter how many times she gazes at what was left of her clan ground, it still wasn't any easier to acknowledge that they were all gone and this is what would be to remember them by. It was this fact that upset her the most, her clan were proud people who had a rich and lively history. All of which was burnt to ashes in the inferno Kiro caused. Her grip would tighten even more on the hilt of her sword as she would gaze at all the burnt wood, the destroyed buildings, the glass that littered the streets..... the stained blood on walls that still stood.

The first building that was for the most part still standing somewhat, would be this tavern. She had never been in here, but her family sure has. Her sister and brother would often frequent this tavern sometimes even dragging their dad with them. It was always so chaotic for her mom and herself whenever the group of them came home drunk. The mess they made was always something to behold. Yet it was a precious memory she had, of holding her sisters hair whenever their stomach regretted what they chose to do.

The inside was even more sad than the outside, while no corpses were inside the evidence that there once was, still remained. Dry blood on the walls and floors, shattered chairs and tables. Dust covered everything, this place was a lovely establishment from what she heard, and yet now it looked like it was one of the first places hit when Kiro started his attack. She frowned a bit, doing her best to keep her emotions in check as she walked around the room scanning for anything, yet she found nothing but destruction.[/fieldbox]

Seeing that both her team mates joined made Meilin feel a bit relieved. She didn't act as if she knew them but it would be a boon if they were able to remain this close. There were no red flags being waved around that they had to be wary of the blokes that occupied the table. They were even welcomed with some smiles and good days. One of the men would bring up three cups and five dices as the others laughed, drank and spoke together. One man that seemed to be around mid-twenties threw a look at Aoi, with a small smile growing on his lips.
"Sounds good. That and free money is always welcome. We could certainly use it if we want to keep sleeping in decent rooms, after all." Was Meilin's reaction through her thoughts to Madoc's suggestion.
The statement of Aoi that she had no idea what this was made Meilin want to open her mouth and almost say the reply out loud.
"Thanks!" She managed to say, flashing a wide smile while taking her seat. Catching the reaction of Aoi on the smile of one of the men at the table, made Meilin quickly 'speak' up.

"Relax Aoi. We are close by. Just try to listen to my instructions and pass me information on your dice," Meilin instructed as some small talk took place between the men. "You put the dice in the cup and shake it, preferably with a hand to close the cup and not allow the dice to fly around. Then you put the cup down on the table with the dice in it. You can then slightly turn it and see how the dice lay. This game is about bluffing and lying as catching others bluffing and lying. But just remain chill, okay?"
Hoping that this would help a bit, the men would order some drinks and ask if the newcomers would like some. Meilin nodded as she flashed a smile back as she stated she would like something to drink.

Taking his seat at the table, he would give each of the men a smile and friendly nod of his head. Aoi was a bit worried which Meilin tried her best to reassure the young woman that all would be fine. "As she said, you want to lie and seem like you mean it. So if your poker face isn't the best. Well may not want to bet too high now. Yet just follow my cues when I inform you if they are lying or not. Yet let us let them win some rounds, we don't want to seem to suspicious by winning all the time." he would add on, as he also gave a confirmation that he would also like something to drink.

Aoi took a seat at the table next to Madoc and smile to the group of older men. Her heart rate rising as she was handed a cup Aoi was certain she was going to be absolutely terrible at the game, 'Okay, yeah easy, I just follow what you guys do and tell you my dice faces.' she thought to the other two as she turned to the man who had offered drinks for them, "I'll take a drink as well." she'd say with a smile before grabbing hold of the cup she had been given for the game.

While drinks were being given and some friendly banter took place, Meilin found little trouble to join in. It was more just harmless talking about how much gold everybody would lose this evening. But as she joined the harmless and playful banter, Meilin paid attention to what Madoc and Aoi conversed in her mind.
"Sounds like a good plan. We will even have to 'play' against each other to make it appear less that we are really tight together. I rather not upset them that we will leave as one with their money. "

Then the game started as the group seemed to enjoy a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. Some of the men were bluffing and joking quite around as a few seemed more serious, yet nothing of the sort that should raise red flags. Following Madoc's plan, the first few rounds were just more of a loss and Meilin briefly felt a bit bitter and irritated about it. She didn't like to lose and certainly not something like money. A wry smile became present on her lips and the man next to her tried to explain how she could play it better as the present men seemed to enjoy the fact that the teens seemed interested on continue to gamble with them. Slowly, the playful banter seemed to change more towards a topic that piqued Meilin's interest.
One of the men had mentioned that they heard that the Thieves Guild was rumoured to be found, only to vanish again. Yet traces had been discovered and could perhaps lead to a real arrest of the higher echelon of the thieving syndicate.
"I wonder if we could perhaps try to see if we can squish some information from the Thieves Guild. I imagine that it would be quite the task and costing a lot of effort and time, though."

Shooting an uncertain glance toward Madoc, Aoi would simply roll her dice under the cups every round and be sure to think hard about her numbers so that Madoc would have them although the part where they were losing didn't exactly sit right with her it did make sense to keep their cover. 'So if we all start suddenly winning it's going to be just as suspicious you know?' she thought to the other two, 'Maybe just one of us can suddenly start to get lucky yeah?' Aoi relayed to them before abruptly starting again, 'Just not me, I'm not sure I could win this even if you two coached me through it…' even in this weird form of communication she was sure that her concern would get across to them both. She took a drink from the glass that had been bought for her and let out a small hiss of air as she let the less than pleasant taste leave her mouth before she tossed her dice into her cup for another round.

The game would start off as they planned to do such, with a majority of them losing although he had to remember to keep the thoughts that were said as just that. As Aoi ahd said some numbers that he almost called bullshit on by natural instinct. Yet things were going fine, they were even giving tips to them as Aoi had some valid points. "That my dear girl is one of the many ploys you can perform. You goad them into thinking you are crap, getting their confidence up and then suddenly switch your playstyle up. Although luck is also still very much a factor. Most of my rolls so far were actually legit awful, not sure about Meilin." yet this was when the topic switched to the thieves guild which Meilin asked if they should try getting information about which may take a lot of time and effort though.
"It would take a lot of time, but thieves are like a goldmine of information. They don't play by the rules and get information at whatever cost. I think it would be well worth it."

Listening to the exchanges in her mind from Aoi and Madoc, Meilin would softly curse. She lost another dice and was down to two remaining dices. The men at the table seemed to truly have no clue what she, Aoi and Madoc were doing and planning. Or perhaps she was just hoping for that?
"To be fair, if you guys want to know. I am rolling awfully low. I bet that the balls of a snake are higher than what I keep getting with my dies." Was Meilin's grumbling response through the telepathic communication.
"And sure. I think that it might be best if our pretty boy gets lucky. I have seen men growing angry from losing to girls and women. Perhaps we can then see if we can gain a bit more information from them regarding the thieves. And then one more possible source of information before we will call it enough. No need to overextend ourselves, agreed?"

Aoi 's hand shot up to her mouth as she began to snicker at the comment about snakes, she shot a look towards the three men, slightly concerned they might find it weird that she was laughing for no apparent reason but she found only a warm and rather intoxicated smile coming from the younger man, the other two didn't seem to have noticed. She reached for her glass and took a long drink from it, shivering as she finished it and placed it back on the table, 'This stuff is really bad compared to what you brought us Meilin.' she thought to Meilin, 'But I do agree, we'll let the prettiest of us win, men like it when other men are in control.' she turned to madoc and smiled at him. Picking up her empty glass she'd raise it in the air and turn it over toward the table before shaking it, with a frown on her face she'd give Madoc an innocent look, "How would you feel about buying a girl a drink?" she ask, drawing the syllables out a bit longer than normal for added effect.

Almost snorting at what Meilin spoke to them caused him to do a check to see if anyone gave him a confusing look. Yet the only looks being given were to Aoi from one slightly wasted man. The two girls would then decide to let the "prettiest" win as guys liked it more when guys won. "Hey now, as a man I could care less who's in charge. Right sensei?" Madoc said and although he didn't show any facial expression, Meilin probably could just see by looking at him a vision of Madoc giving a smirk and wink.
"Sure though I'll start winning, if my dies cooperate that is." Madoc thought before Aoi looked at him and spoke openly about buying her a drink. Blinking a bit as to the sudden request, he decided to shrug it off and give a smile. "I guess I can buy you one." Madoc spoke as he would get one of the servers to bring a drink over, and would hand her the money for said drink. With it being given to Aoi, both the ladies would hear a faint curse from Madoc inside their mind.

She was growing content. Or was it bold? For a moment, Meilin found herself slightly confused if she was growing a tad too bold or confident about the progress of their work. Listening to what Aoi and Madoc replied back, Meilin only would subtly lean to deliver a hard kick to Madoc's nearest shin.
"Sorry, my foot was sleeping." The honeyed tone pretty much gave away that wasn't the case at all. "But okay. Let us get some money and see what more starting leads they can provide us with."
Spotting Aoi requesting a drink from Madoc and the Yamanaka deciding to pay her a drink, Meilin had to restrain herself from not making a most fitting sarcastic and amusing remark about the misunderstanding. One of the men that had shown interest in Aoi, caught Meilin's attention briefly. He flashed a smile towards Aoi as he would lean on his elbows on the table, leaning slightly towards Aoi.

"So, may I inquire what your plans are for perhaps the next few evenings, miss?"
While the young man asked that, Meilin caught two other men speaking briefly about that they wondered what the monks were doing these days. Not a person for a religion that was 'foreign' to her, Meilin wondered if that was also something they should investigate. Then again, she desired to know more than just 'monks' as that could be basically be anything. Yet, she opted to not ask and just continue listen as the game slowly progressed. Meilin managed to catch on that the 'monks' were of the 'Way'. Which made Meilin consider that it was of the dominant faith called 'the Way of Fire'.
"Aoi, after this recon, I will need you to explain me more about the Way of Fire. Perhaps we can find either a lead. Or perhaps even an ally with those monks."

"I actually have some business to take care of in the city, so sadly, this is the only night I'll have to myself." Aoi would tell the young man as she gave him a sincere smile and shook her head as if saddened by the fact. She took another drink from her new glass and gave Madoc a nod, Thanks for the drink Madoc, although it didn't seem to work as intended…' she thought to him as she slowly shifted herself to be slightly farther from the young man.

She would place the glass on the table before before throwing her arms above her head and stretching wide, "I'm not too sure but I think I'm beat." she said with a yawn. She grabbed the glass and downed the drink before standing from the table, "Thank you all for the game." she stated with a small bow before she turned and headed for the exit of the tavern, 'Meilin I can tell you somewhere else, I don't feel this is getting us anywhere in particular other than filling our heads with more questions about this place.' she though as she stepped outside and took a seat on a bench across the road. She watched the entrance to the tavern waiting for the other two to make their ways out while also watching the general commotion going on around her.

More nonsense conversation would continue on with Aoi getting hit on by an intoxicated man, as faith also found its way into the mix. The topic he was more interested in seemed to have been bypassed, while now the topic seemed to be on Meilin asking Aoi to inform her about this Way of Fire. Stating they could perhaps ally themselves with the monks. Aoi would shortly afterwards tap out stating they were only getting more questions than answers and would bid everyone goodbye as she left. Along the way stating to Meilin she would tell her somewhere else. "I don't know about you, but I rather stick with the thieves guild than some monks. Maybe that one who tried stealing from you earlier was part of it. All I need is one reaction for the topic to appear on their mind." Madoc was silent for a bit before letting out a sigh.

"You guys are going to have to stop thrashing me in this game. I'm almost out of money, I would of had more but earlier today someone swiped a good bit of my money from me. You guys mentioned the Thieves guild, think some bloke from it robbed me?"

Attention briefly went to Aoi as she declared herself to be done. It didn't gather any sort of negativity from the men who were playing the game. Some mumbled nothing more than good night and the young man, who had shown interest, was visibly disappointed. But he quickly seemed to recover and focus back on the game and talk.
"Great. We will round matters up here and then you and I will meet up outside." Was Meilin's reply back to Aoi through the telepathic link. Madoc's response made the Cho think.

"That is okay. If you got an earphone communicator with you, stay on Channel A. It should be secure enough for us to stay on that channel. If we don't go to the other side of the river and city, I reckon that we will be able to contact each other. Me and Aoi will plan on how to approach the monks while you will delve more information here. Though, don't make it too late. If you won't return to the rented room within a few hours, we will have to deploy a search." Meilin paused for a moment as a small smile found its way to her lips.
"And I rather not disturb you on during any romance."

That having 'said', Meilin would cut her 'loss' during the next round. Much like Aoi, her leave was given a few mumbled responses and nods. Leaving Madoc with the men, she was certain that the Yamanaka could gain the information he was searching for while she could plan on how to contact the monks with Aoi.

Summary:
Meilin meets up with Aoi outside and the duo heads back to their rented room. On the way, they talk about the Way of Fire as Meilin has various questions about the respective faith.

[spoili]
Exiting the tavern, Meilin welcomed the chillier temperature outside. She didn't yet experience much peace and quiet as there were still quite some tavern patrons and other folk on the streets. Either heading home or to another establishment to enjoy them. Or that was what Meilin considered that most had in mind. Walking further, she did notice Aoi up ahead.

Closing the distance between them, Meilin would throw a glance around while speaking up to her team member.
"And? What do you think so far about this big city?" Meilin would ask as she subtly gestured Aoi to come with her. There wasn't much for them to stick around. At least, Meilin considered that Madoc was capable to handle himself in his position.

Aoi, watching her feet as she moved them from left to right, looked up slightly startled by Meilin's voice. She shot up from her seat and placed her hand over her chest, "You scared me Meilin…" she said her voice still slightly shaky. She followed Meilin as she started through the city gesturing for Aoi to follow.

"It's breathtaking… I've honestly never seen a place so large in my entire life, I mean it dwarfs Konoha, and it's beautiful. I mean even this is," she gestured to the taverns all around them, the warm light emanating from within casting yellow hues on the benches and trees that lined the street and on peoples faces as they passed by, "something so simple as light on a stranger's face here is almost otherworldly." she stated, the excitement from when they first entered the bazaar once again evident by the way her eyes seemed to glint as she spoke and her mouth grew into a smile as her words came to life around her. "I'm grateful I'm able to see this place, if it weren't for this Team, I doubt I'd ever have made that journey." she said to Meilin with a genuine smile.

The initial response of Aoi caused Meilin to softly snicker back a laughter. Listening to the answer of Aoi, Meilin felt a twinge of envy as Aoi's experience seemed to be much better than hers. Why was that, the Cho wondered for a moment. Deciding to not question that, Meilin was unable to hide a smile.
"Glad that you are enjoying it. Hanaguro indeed seems quite the city. Perhaps we will manage to see more large cities on future operations or independent travels. Do you have any place or city in mind that you have heard or read about, that you really want to see yourself one day?" Meilin decided to ask as they continued to walk.

"Amegakure." Aoi answered without hesitation, she smiled a bit wider and continued, "I've heard from travelers that it's always raining there, overcast and dreary according to them. Yet the people of Amegakure seem to adore the rain, they've grown to accept it as part of who they are. I love the rain, so I imagine I'd love Amegakure as well." she giggled a little as she thought, "Plus there'd be so many puddles to jump around in somewhere that it never stops raining."

The answer of Aoi surprised Meilin. Shooting a look sideways at Aoi, Meilin would listen to why Aoi would fancy to visit Amegakure one day.
"I suppose that is a better reason to go than not to, I suppose. I personally would dislike to be in a city or region where it apparently rains forever. Sounds so depressive." Meilin pondered for a second.
"I suppose that it also had to do with the fact that I dislike rain. If I want to be drenched, I go for a swim or bath. That and wearing a raincoat all day? Well," Meilin paused for a moment as she realised she was being quite negative about Amegakure, "Perhaps we should go there or hope a mission will take us there. Perhaps it isn't bad as I imagine it to be."

Meilin's distaste for Amegakure was evident as she spoke, but Aoi was happy that Meilin at least tried to make some sort of a compromise to one day go there, "Don't worry about it, I'll make it there on my own someday." she said giving Meilin a small shove to her shoulder, "No need to drag you along and make you miserable the whole time, I'm sure you would only be able to jump in so many puddles before it got old anyway.".

The streets ahead of them had cleared a little since they had first started walking, enough that Aoi didn't really have to pay any attention to where she was walking as long as they stayed in the middle of the road. She turned on her heels and began walking backwards infront of Meilin, "So what is it you want to know, I can answer all sorts of questions about The Way of Fire." she said, "I am a Shrine Maiden afterall." she finished with a wink to Meilin.

Meilin was certain that Aoi would be able to. Yet, she hoped that she could then be there as well. Brushing aside a few strands of hair, Meilin's smile increased slightly in size after Aoi's small shove.
"That is most generous. Then again, I don't think that we can just let you roam around in a large city without getting the guys wild." Meilin raised her right thumb to point over her shoulders, towards the direction they came from, "That one guy really seemed interested, you know? But yeah, let us talk about the Way of Fire."

For a second Meilin wondered if they shouldn't wait before they were in the safe surrounding of their rented room. But what was so dangerous to talk about? The religion wasn't outlawed nor should it be too concerning.
"I have little experience or knowledge from the Way of Fire. In Keishi there are a few temples. Not to mention that the majority were followers of the Way. Then again, most people I encountered and dealt with weren't the most pious. So, I suppose my first question is what kind of religion is it?"
Realising that her question was quite vague Meilin would add something to her question. A small gesture with her hands followed as if she imagined that to clarify it better.
"What kind of deities are being worshipped? Let start with that."

Aoi couldn't help but laugh as Meilin seemed to stumble on her very first question. She nodded her head as she spoke, "We only follow one God actually, we only believe that there is one God…" she placed a finger at her lips as she thought while they walked, "He's a benevolent God, always willing to hear us and help us down the right path, no matter if you follow him or another deity. God is always present although you may not notice it, but he's there," she pointed to nothing ahead of them, "and he always has a plan set out which guides you along your life." she kicked a small rock as they went on, watching it tumble to the side of the road and fall into a gutter, "I guess God is benevolent and omniscient, but he does willing refrain from doing some things. It's believed that he allows his most loved creations," she smiled and turned quickly to Meilin, "That's us." she said with a glint in her eyes, "to decide their own paths in moments of hardship, for that's how he truly tests us. To see if we have really accepted the Fire or not, if we have then we'll make the right choice and he's so much faith in us that he always believes we have the capacity to do the right thing...." she blushed as she found herself rambling on to Meilin, "I'm sorry I didn't mean to go on like that…"

Meilin listened to what Aoi said. Yet she found herself a bit puzzled. One god that was able to hear and help out his followers? She couldn't imagine that even a god was able to do that but she wasn't going to question or argue against what Aoi was telling her.
"You do keep calling him, 'God'. Does it-- I mean, he not have a name?" Meilin asked, frowning slightly. She couldn't imagine a powerful deity not having a name. Then another thought struck her as she shot a frowned look sideways at Aoi.
"You mention also that he loves us? Does that mean also people like me that follow other traditions and such?"

Aoi pointed a finger to the sky, "God is too holy to name, it wouldn't do him justice to give Him a name that could be taken and shared by a person." she said matter-of-factly.

She turned to Meilin at her second question and pointed a finger at her, placing it square on Meilin's chest over her heart as she stopped them in the middle of the road, "Correct!" she said as she collapsed her finger and laid her hand over Meilin's heart, "He loves all of us! If he didn't, well you wouldn't be a Shinobi then! Only his most beloved creations are able to use the Fire inside them, what we commonly know as 'Chakra'." she exclaimed as she was able to feel Meilin's heartbeat in the palm of her hand, "Chakra is a physical manifestation of the Fire inside you. The Fire is what makes you alive, the reason you have this heartbeat as we stand here." she said, "Every living thing on Earth has the Fire within them, but only we are able to use it without any sort of contract."
"What kind of deities are being worshipped? Let start with that."
Too holy for a name? That puzzled Meilin. She thought about it for a second but couldn't imagine how that worked. Her lips briefly parted as she wanted to ask how that could be but it wasn't her faith. And she didn't want to harm the dynamic between her and Aoi by just phrasing questions wrong.
The words of Aoi did sting Meilin. She didn't like it that there was some unnamed deity having influence over her life. Her ancestors were a different story. They had names. They were connected to her through past bloodline and name. For a moment she wondered how much of her recent misery was to blame for this unnamed deity.
"But what about the Zealots then? Does your God also grant them a chance for redemption?" Meilin did put some effort in her tone to keep the tone polite and curious. Masking away the slight frustration by the mere thought that this deity would even be favouring their enemies.

Aoi paused, giving thought to Meilin's question as she took her hand from the girls chest. "Well, of course. He gives the chance for redemption to all His creations, even the misguided." she said as she paused, "He always gives a chance to come back from the dark, although even He is aware that some are beyond saving, but He never takes the route to redemption from them even if they're too far gone to ever actually take it." she said to Meilin as she started walking again, "God is omniscient, not stupid." she said as they walked on.

Misguided? Meilin would have used a different word for the Zealots but that was her personal opinion, not Aoi's. Remaining silent for a moment as she pondered on what Aoi told her, thus far. This unnamed God did anything already but to make her like him. He was much different from the deities she had grown up with.
"What is it with 'Fire'? Is it some sort of holy element or symbol within your faith?" Meilin decided to ask, considering how this information could perhaps make their future interaction with the monks in this city smoother and even, perhaps, successful.

Aoi smiled as Meilin asked about the importance of Fire to her faith. She pointed to the darkness of the night sky, although not perfectly black thanks to the stars it served her point, "So God, before he created everything was just sort of thinking to himself for a really long time… In complete darkness, in nothing, the void… Then one day he got sick of it all and made a fire in his palm which after making it larger and tending to it for five days ended up creating the Earth and everything on it from its ashes, and the stars and Sun are the original Fires embers that still burn to this day. Inside of us is a piece of that same original fire, which is what makes us and every other living creature alive. It's also as I said before the source of the very chakra we depend on to do our jobs." she stated, "It's intertwined in everything we do, no matter if you're aware of it or not. That's why it's so important to us."

"That sounds terrible. Just being in complete darkness with yourself. I would have got sick of it right away," Meilin said, trying to sound jovial about it. Only realising that she was joking about a deity that perhaps meant alot to Aoi.
"I see. So far your god does sound more benevolent than mine. Is he the only deity that exists in your faith? Or are there more figures, so to speak, with a certain influence?" Meilin asked, wondering how far apart her own faith was from that of Aoi. Briefly, she even worried about if they could even consider each other friends if they believed in different matters.

Aoi shook her head as they walked down the street, growing further from the taverns behind them and into the residential areas of the city beyond, "Nope, just the one. There is no need for another deity if the God we follow can do it all, even if he may choose not to at times." she paused and then kept going, "I guess it's better to pray to one God and have your prayer be heard then to pray to multiple and have it not get heard in all the confusion." she said as they went.

"There is a painful truth in that." Meilin mumbled to the last comment of Aoi, a bitter tone present. Remaining silent for a moment, she would take a breathe in and recompose herself.
"But if the God of Fire is benevolent then we can say the same likely of his monks and priests? Would be in our advantage to learn what they know and have seen in Hanaguro. Though," Meilin frowned once more as she could not shake off the complications that she already was able to imagine.
"I have never been to a temple of your God. Would it be allowed for me to even set foot in one of his sacred grounds or should I bring something to appease him?"

Aoi bit her lip as she thought for a moment, "Well… First off we don't have any monks, just Priests and Shrine Maidens." she'd say before continuing, "Of course the Priests would be able to help us, I'd actually advise talking to a more Junior Priest, as they tend to get out of the Shrine more often and hear the concerns of their younger followers which would likely know more about what we're interested in... Although the Head Priest will be a good source of info as well, as they tend to be rather close to heads of families and the leaders in their area." she said with a nod before looking to Meilin at her final concerns of being able to enter. She waved away Meilin's fears, "No no of course you can come in. God loves all his creations no matter if you follow Him or not, all are welcome at anytime of the day for any reason." she caught herself laugh at the last part, a small crude noise escaping her lips, "We don't do any sort of sacrifices or anything, although you could do to toss a coin into the donation box as we pass it." she said with a smile.

Taking in the advice, Meilin thought that it would be better if Aoi would handle the talking. She knew more and that would allow her to deal in a much better fashion.
"Not to offend you but is there really nothing dark about your God? Maybe my gods are less forgiving but it is just slightly... It is unheard for me to hear about a deity that seems to be so kind. So forgiving. Certainly compared to my people's deities and ancestors."

Aoi seemed to think hard to herself trying to think of an answer to Meilin's question. She smiled and looked at the girl, "Well he did once send a giant flood to wipe out all the humans in a village, but it was more so that the man there would accept the Fire within him. He used some early form of a fireball jutsu to destroy the flood after accepting God and saved the village, which would maybe make him the first Shinobi. He's known as the First Keeper of the Flame, it's a title that gets passed on to someone in a time of dire need, although I haven't heard of anyone having the title given to them in awhile." she shrugged. "Sure I can do the talking, but don't be afraid to ask questions if you have them, they won't treat you any less just because you don't believe."

"He tried to drown people of a village, in order to make people accept the Fire? " Meilin had phrased the question before she had been able to restrain herself. She couldn't fully understand how this God functioned. He had no name and if anything, Meilin felt more worried if he had a certain influence on their future.
"Understood. I do think that I will need to learn more though before I will ask. Most of my questions are," the Cho sought for a fitting word, "Out of confusion and curiosity. Confusion, because it really differs from the ways of my people's faith. But I am still open to learn more about your God and religion."
They were nearing the establishment where they stayed if Meilin wasn't mistaken.
"Is there perhaps something you can think of to increase our chance of success to win the priests for us?"

Aoi smiled at the idea of having to win over a Fire Priest, "I don't mean questions about the Way of FIre, I mean questions about the mission, and it shouldn't be hard to gain their trust. Most Priests are very open to everyone, they'll likely be willing to help us if we just treat them with respect, I can also mention my Shrine back home and the fact I'm technically a Shrine Maiden even if I'm not currently acting as one will definitely be enough leverage for them to assist us without any push back." she said with a smile as she noticed their Inn fast approaching. "I wonder how Madoc is doing with those men…" she said as she looked back over her shoulder in the direction that they had come from.

"That would be quite great, the leverage." Meilin considered the possibility on how further they could draw in advantages with their current objective.
"Madoc will be fine, I wager. If he will be in trouble then we would have heard it over the communicator," Was Meilin's initial reply to Aoi's pondering over Madoc.
"Perhaps he can even win enough coin to guarantee that our next stay will be as luxurious as our current one. Cause I am not sure about you but I won't have much money to afford a room like that for a prolonged time here."

Aoi stopped as they were walking, realizing that she likely didn't have enough money to continue to pay for lodging for the duration of their stay either, "I really hope he wins… If not we could probably stay at the Shrine for a few days at least, whenever travelers came that couldn't afford a room we would lay out bed rolls in the side rooms of the shrine for them… The Way of Fire is a very accomodating faith I guess." she said to Meilin, "But if he wins a lot maybe we could all get separate rooms! Else we may end up having to share a bed or two." she said with a devious smile to Meilin.

When Aoi brought up the possibility to stay at the Shrine, Meilin initially wanted to reply that she wouldn't feel comfortable with that idea. But once more she caught herself judging. Besides, a cosy bed was way more appealing than trying to find a spot on the streets and alleys. The idea only to sleep in a sacred place of this unnamed God didn't sit well with Meilin. Hearing the last comment of Aoi, caused Meilin to shoot a surprised look at the other. Only to wind up in a soft and short laughter.
"Good thing that the 'sensei' gets first pick. Here is hoping that Madoc will bring in some coin back then!"

Aoi snickered along with Meilin at her final comment, "To Madoc bringing in the money!" she yelled as they walked up to the front door of their Inn. "For now though, let's get some rest, we've even got time to change before Madoc is back too." she said as she pulled open the door.

[Fieldbox=A Trial of Blood! - Part 1, lightgreen]
Amegakure, capital of the Rain province of the Akinian Empire.

A collab between Aliceee, Zaneee and Oetjeee!

Summary:
Etsu gathers with the Tough Rats, that would aid her in the initial mission, and her own team. Only with the recent orders of Eiji Emiya, a change of orders made them move towards one the depots of the Tough Rats. Once ready, the group would quickly make way towards the rally point from where Team # would gather with the assigned force. From there? To storm into the Housha compound and drive the Zealots into the tightened net of Emiya's plan!

[spoili]
It cost relatively wise little time. Relocating towards a new position as Etsu made it happen that the deployed Tough Rats, that would accompany them on their initial objective, would come with them. Leading her team towards what appeared to be a slum near the edge of Amegakure, to the direction of the Housha compound, there was little time to ponder on the convenient location of the rally point. Which apparently appeared to be a small depot of arms, gear and tools for the Tough Rats.

Within fifteen minutes Etsu had arranged and allowed her two students to don on some gear and tools of their choosing for this offensive strike. While she allowed her genin and chuunin to equip properly for a heavy scuffle, Etsu spoke with some of the present Tough Rats. It was clear that they were displeased by the fact that they were switching in all of a sudden from a subterfuge strike to a pinned fight with zealots. Being capable fighters and experienced in taking out people in a heated conflict, the Tough Rats weren't a frontline unit. And with just fifteen operatives, there was the question if they could deliver the results that the Amekage Assistant and co were expecting. Managing to reason with some, one of the Tough Rats would go in advance to alert the relocated regular troops to the position where they would move into the Housha compound. A few of the Tough Rats that were guarding and overwatching the depot would also move in, slightly increasing the numbers. A factor that eased Etsu slightly but didn't do much to dampen her dismay over the current situation with the Housha compound.

After arranging such matters, Etsu would wait for Rini and Kitana to be ready. Once the two were fully geared, Etsu planted her gloved fists on her hips. Her mask wasn't yet placed on her face, hanging at her belt as the jounin's hood was down.
"Don't you two look dandy? Though the gear is more to afford you some protection without hampering your mobility." Etsu flashed a wide smile at the two. "As you guys likely expect, we are going into the situation without any chance to be concealed or having the possibility to ambush. Things will go hetic but if you stick close to me, I will make sure you two will come out. Perhaps you two can become even recruited into the Tough Rats!"
The woman spread her arms out, as a gesture to the small shackle behind her.
"After all, we can't afford that non-members know of a location where we keep arms and tools. But we can talk about that after this 'adventure', yes? Any questions, girls?"

Rini wasn't sure what she disliked more. The fact that they were about to launch a strike, again, against the police corps. How certain was Etsu that the targets were in league with the Zealots? Reminding herself how the woman had figured out information that wasn't likely in her profile within the first meeting, Rini's doubt waned away. Then again, was it worse than being prepared for a fight in a burning and attacked compound? As eager as she was to deliver a punch back at the Zealots and preventing them from hurting more people, she wasn't so confident in her skills to be of use in a heavy fight. Arriving at the depot, she didn't let the chance go by to arm and gear herself. The armour of the Tough Rats seemed foreign. Bearing no familiarity with the Regular Imperial Shinobi corps or even that of the ANBU. Curious for a moment about the Tough Rats history and origin, Rini would just prepare herself for the best. Putting the mask on, she would cover the rest of her head with the hood. Judging how menacing the Tough Rats appeared, Rini doubted if she could inspire as much dread and terror in the heart of her enemies with appearing as a smaller version.

"No questions, sensei." Rini replied, trying to sound as confident as she could. Licking her lips behind the cover of the metal mask, she tried to keep her nerves under control. When was the last time she had fought? The mission with Itsuo. A cold shiver ran past her back as she tried to steel herself for the impending violence and horror.

What was going on in Amegakure that caused all the problems to fall in place one after the other. First, the city starts rebelling, then their sensei really wants to expose the police for their involvement with the Zealots when proof wasn't fully there and now the zealots are attacking the Housha. Why even the Housha? They weren't a big force to worry about this just seemed like bait that they were forced to pounce on. They were given protection from their sensei but the more she looked at it, the more she was certain this wasn't a very known force that was used. Sighing mentally she would look at Rini giving a cheerful little smile before doning the metal mask herself. Etsu would give them the rundown really quickly, telling them if they stuck close they would come out alive and perhaps even be recruited into the Tough Rats, which was the shackle behind her she assumed by her gesture. Only to then be told that they couldn't afford non-members to know of the location of their arms and tools, which they would talk about later and then asked if the young ladies had any questions.

Rinin would reply first with no questions and she wasn't going to poke the beast. "None sensei." Kitana would state in a normal tone although her look behind the mask would certainly show some sign of fear and it wasn't even directed at the thought of engaging the zealots.

The fact that the two hadn't yet asked to run away made Etsu wonder if they were either ready or just unaware of what kind of mess they would wind up into. Then again, she barely knew more than what she had been given from the meeting at the office of mister Emiya. With Rini stating she had no questions, Etsu once more wondered if it wasn't a bit too cruel to let the genin go into this mess. Then again, her profile had stated she had some combat experience. And her performance at the Ironblood Tournament had marked it clear that she was a crafty one. Hopefully, she would remain crafty enough to not be pinned down or worse by the present enemies at the Housha compound.
Kitana also stated she had no questions, which caused Etsu to slowly nod.

"Good. Now, I suppose it is time to join the fray. Stick close, okay?" The last three words were spoken in a softer tone before Etsu turned around. Commanding the present troop of Tough Rats to follow her, Etsu would start to lead the troop towards the meeting point.

It was a good half hour run. Moving around the perimeter of the Housha compound, Etsu's group could already witness the black and heavy smoke flowing upwards. The sounds of chaotic conflict were faint but a clear reminder of what hell they would soon move into. It didn't take much longer before Etsu's group would regroup with a large group of regular shinobi and even members of the police and watch corps. One person, however, stood out.

"You guys, wait here. I will be right back." Etsu instructed Rini and Kitana as she approached a man of renown, that stood out of the present force.
"Lord Commander," Etsu would grace her greeting with a salute, her right fist placed at her chest for a moment, "I didn't expect that you would join the assault from this direction. Your presence is certainly an honour."

The travel towards the rally point was shorter than Rini expected. Or desired. She allowed herself a brief glance at the Housha compound. What she could see was enough to make her face lose almost all colour. How many zealots and insurgents of Soru were attacking the compound? How many people were struggling to get out of it? Or how many had already perished in the chaos? Questions started to fill and almost overwhelm the mind of the genin. So much that she barely registered the instruction of Etsu to wait for her. Placing her left hand on the pommel of her sword, Rini tried to keep herself calm and collected. "You know," she started to Kitana, "This is likely my... third real fight. If I make a fool out of myself, I shall already apologise in advance."

Arriving at the rally point didn't take long but it was still shocking to see the Housha compound in the state it was, they weren't large by any means but they weren't small enough for this to be expected. Maybe this wasn't a diversion after all it made her wonder if anyone inside was even alive, yet that was answered in the screams she could hear. Etsu stated she would be right back to which Kitana nodded and looked towards where she was going. A look of shock hidden behind the mask at seeing her brother would grace her face, she knew Mitsu would be here but not at this point to be exact. His presence helped calm her nerves a little, as she heard little Rini speak up causing her to shift her gaze to the young girl, who stated this was only her third real fight so she gave an apology in advance if she made a fool out of herself. "Well if we're going to be honest with each other..." Kitana would start off with rubbing her left arm a bit. "While I've been involved in more fights, a good bit of them were against my own brothers. So really fighting others with our lives on the line, this would be possibly my fifth... no wait sixth. So you watch my back, I watch yours, and that way we cant see each other making a fool out of ourselves."

Mitsunari who was dealing out order on how they will be operating and to make sure everyone proceeds according to the plan, would turn around to see Etsu greeting him with a salute. A smile would show a little on his face as he would return the salute to her. "Upon learning that your front had some more inexperinced personals when it came to battle, I figured they could use a bit more of a motivator. Really though, this plan requires everyone to be insync with each other." Mitsunari would state as he folded his arms and look towards the mess that awaited them. "It makes one wonder just how we allowed something like this to transpire. Which is why we here and now we have to make sure that none of these zealot bastards leave alive. I want you to inform this to the unit you will be leading. Any Zealot is to be killed."

"Yeah. Some that were enlisted to this direction and front are somewhat green behind the ears." Etsu mumbled, not hiding the fact she was a tad displeased with that. Then again, she couldn't push that blame on anybody.
"Agreed and understood, Lord Commander, sir! With you here, we could divide some of the responsibilities. I reckon that the regular troops, guards and watchmen do listen better to you. I was planning to deploy some of the Tough Rats to get on higher vantage points and provide some cover for our advancement. The only problem is that I doubt that the usage of bombs will be sanctioned."
The last sentence did sound more like a request that as a statement as Etsu hoped that Mitsunari wouldn't mind the collateral damage to the compound's buildings too risky than to try to take out some enemies from a short range.

"Well, shit." Rini said. She felt terrified and yet couldn't do almost nothing but to hold back a laughter upon hearing what Kitana replied back. "Sounds like a plan. Heh," Rini felt as if the air was starting to get heavier. Spotting that Etsu was talking to nobody else than the lord commander of the Rain, she wondered if the man would stick around. She had heard he was more than just a grizzled veteran. His support and presence could very well mean that they had less enemies to deal with. "If we make this without a scratch, I would suggest drinks on me. Too bad that I am not capable to buy any drinks. I always figured I was going to crook after experiencing what it is like to be drunk and all that jazz."

Mitsunari would nod in agreement. "Well Im still new to this position, yet it would encourage them to try and impress the Jounin Commander now wouldn't it?" he stated a bit amused at the fact some would try to display their skill with him in view. "You are allowed to take higher vantage point with the units provided and are only allowed to use bombs, if ally casualties won't happen. I could care less about buildings getting destroyed, if the zealots are already tearing this place down, then a few bombs won't harm rubble. Yet do take care with how much you use." Mitsunari would state to tsu allowing her unit to use bombs but on the condition, it wasn't highly excessive usage.

She wondered briefly if Mitsu even knew who she was with this mask on, probably not but that might be for the best, although it worried her a bit as to why her scary sensei and scary brother would be talking about. Which practically left her at hearing Rini suggest they get drinks on her telling her she felt like she was going to die after being drunk, which caused her to laugh. Wrapping her arm around the should, she was smiling which again was hidden. "Well since they can't be on you, how about me. I know where brother's secret stash is."

Etsu released a soft chuckle.
"I suppose so, Lord Commander. Let us hope that not too many will try to impress you and forget the task at hand."
When the jounin commander stated that the usage of bombs would be sanctioned if no allied casualties would follow, Etsu nodded. She knew that making promises would lead to trouble. After all, everybody could make mistakes but she had faith in her fellow Tough Rats. They would know when to employ certain tools and when it would be too much of a risk.
"I will return to my own troop. I take it that you will lead the regulars into the fray? If so, I will try to provide all the flanking support me and mine can grant you, Lord Commander, sir."

"I want to ask how much trouble that will give you but if we make out of this, we are trully blessed by the rain. So sure, I suppose it is a deal then." Rini replied to Kitana. She hadn't thought of it before but the chuunin was really a nice person. Perhaps it was the idea that she was soon risking her life and limbs for the good cause or the fact that the few exchanges had given anything but root for disdain for Kitana. But surely, if they could pass this trial by fire and blood, how much could it hurt to get to know Kitana a tad better? Perhaps she shouldn't be that worried. Maybe Itsuo was also involved in this counter-attack? Deciding that she shouldn't carry herself as some whining coward, Rini would further try to brace herself mentally.

"I hope so too, have enough people trying to capture my attention than to worry about promotion hungry people." he would reply with giving her a nod of the head at her stating she would return to her own troop. "You do that, make sure you are prepared. We charge in a couple minutes." Mitsunari told her letting her get any last minute preparation done, or any encouragement to her unit.

Pointing at Mitsunari, Kitana would let out a nervous laugh. "Well if we do good, my brother shouldn't totally get mad. Besides, I've taken drinks from it before and he keeps replenishing it so it should be fine.... possibly. He might understand though, this is a rather serious exception I feel." Kitana spoke giving a thumbs up before gazing once more at the hell that awaited them, she felt a bit curious though as to what tactics their sensei would employ.

Etsu wouldn't comment on what Mitsunari said about people hungry for promotion or the man's favour. She wondered if there were some moles of the Zealots that were trying to get a good standing with the recently promoted jounin commander. Perhaps even to recruit him to join the insurgents and zealots? Pushing that question into the back of her mind, Etsu decided it wasn't the place nor time to question everybody on the spot.

"Understood. We will follow suit once the signal will be given, Lord Commander, sir!" Etsu replied, giving the man another salute before taking her leave.
Approaching the group of Tough Rats as her students, Etsu would throw a glance at Rini and Kitana. Sadly, the metal masks prevented her from getting an inkling on how the two were feeling. Probably nervous, Etsu concluded by the fact that this wasn't going to be a walk in the park.
"Listen up. The Lord Commander has decided to grace us with his presence on this front. He will take care of the regular force while we are to take up some higher vantage and either eliminate any hostile force trying to use the high ground on us. Or using the high ground on them. Those armed and equipped with ranged weapons, bombs and ninjutsu are to aim their attacks at grouped hostiles but stay clear on wounding allied forces. I want two squads to keep an eye on the advancing forces of the Lord Commander. I doubt that he will like it if the Zealots will attempt to move on his flanks. We will move in a few minutes, so you got a few more moments to make peace with what it is to come."

After her 'briefing', the Tough Rats that were present seemed to be anything but disturbed. Some casually checked if their weapons were in place, again, while others seemed to engage in soft conversations as the force would split in various task forces. Etsu turned to her students as she spoke in a softer tone.
"The moment is nearly there. Once more, no acts of heroism. Stick together. If you do happen to lose sight of me or anybody else, then fall back or try to find some cover."

"In that case, I doubt that they can do worse than what we are about to experience. I hope," Rini mumbled the last two words as she threw a glance at the direction of the Housha compound. When Etsu rejoined them and gave them another briefing, Rini caught herself subtly nodding. The instructions were simple and yet Rini wondered if they were as simple as they sounded. "Yes, Etsu-sensei." For a moment, she wanted to ask if it was okay to else stay back. But the question didn't seem to leave her lips as she realised how idiotic and late such a request was. Feeling the cold sweat starting to run down her back, the gloved fingers of Rini's left hand wrapped around the handle of her katana.

After Etsu rejoined them and gave them the briefing she would nod that the instructions were clear, a bit relieved in that they wouldn't be getting stabbed at on the ground. They mainly had to worry about anybody that was on the roofs that weren't an ally, and where they aimed their projectiles and explosives on the ground. It would also probably be bad to blow up the building they may be standing on as well. Well under Etsu's guidance they should be just fine, now all they had to do was wait for the signal.

Giving every front a couple more minutes to be thoroughly prepared he would start dishing out orders for formations. The mix of troops, watchmen and guards started moving around to get in formation which would be the signal for Etsu to also start getting ready. "Remember men! Any zealot you come across is to die, I want none to leave this compound alive, lest they cause more trouble for us down the line. I don't want anybody being a hero, follow the plan and we will get through this! With me men!" Mitsunari would shout out for their front to hear, as the troops would start marching into the chaotic area that was now the Housha compound. It wouldn't take long before the front would come into sight of some zealots that were trying to hunt down any Housha civilian they could find. The zealots would see the sight of troops charging toward them, which caused some of them to be taken back a bit but not terrified. So much so they would charge the front back., which could be a bit unnerving seeing that the zealots were not as well geared as the Amegakure force was. The initial clash saw some Amegakure troops being cut down from possible surprise that the enemy wasn't fleeing, yet the odds would turn quickly with the Amegakure troops cutting the zealots force down as quickly as they came.

[fieldbox="The Green Jewel of the Rivers - Team 7, green"]
Empire of Akino.
Hanaguro - River Province's capital.

A collab between Nim, Glitchybugger, Roran Hawkins and Gerontis.

Team 7 heads towards Hanaguro, the capital of the River Province of the Akinian empire. The team's journey towards the city goes without much problem and after a good two weeks they arrive on foot. Arriving into the city, the team wastes no time to move towards the site of their contractor. The introduction with the Tamiyo goes rather smoothly as the team learns more about their respective contractor. Only learning that they need to figure out who can be a threat or an ally for their objective.

The city ambushed them as they ascended to over the next low, rolling ridge, wedged between rivers. The morning's lingering mist was starting to disperse when they were greeted by Hanaguro. The mist gave the ancient fortified city wedged between the rivers a mistifying view, as if it came straight out of a painting or a romantic's book. A less cursory glance broke that image, with carts on the roads and the busy traffic on the river itself showing perhaps the true nature of Hanaguro's wealth. Kensuke made a particular sniff and looked back at Karma and Kyoi. "Let's get this over with." He said, and descended down the path to the Eastern gates.

It didn't take too long before they found themselves escorted through the town which, despite that it'd been dawn not even an hour before, was bustling with activity and commerce. Eventually they arrived at the fortified castle dominating the capital of the River, where a more formal hailing followed. Yet here too Team 7 passed without many difficulties. The team would be led into the castle. Their escort existed out of a few servants who would lead them towards a heavily guarded entrance. Double thick doors of dark oak were already opened as some soft sounds of people whispering and mumbling could be heard. Some more voices were audible. Team 7's escort would guide them silently into the throne room as the courtiers made way for the few shinobi. A line of heavily armoured and armed guards formed a line between the courtiers and the throne of the current reigning governor. Two guards would step aside, allowing the few shinobi to pass through the line of guards, to close it behind them. In front of the team, there was a heavily decorated scene. Banners that represented the Tamiyo dynasty as several banners that presented the royal Homura dynasty were hanging at the walls. There were two doors in the back but each door was guarded by the masked guards that cleary didn't seem fond of allowing just anybody to pass through. In the center, some meters in front of Team 7, was the throne. Decorations in silver and gold run around in the stone, which was occupied by a plump man. Next to the throne was a smaller version, which a small lady sat in. A slim man with a pale complexion would clear his throat before taking a step forward.

"You are in the presence of the current governor of the River province, blessed by the Empress herself. The current head of the Tamiyo dynasty and the most beloved of the entire region. The Generous and the Wise. Takeo Tamiyo," the herald would announce as the courtiers would bow deeply towards the man that occupied the throne. Subtly, Takeo would gesture that those who knelt or bowed could rise up as he would bestow a large smile upon the small group of nin in front of him. "Greetings, I hope that the journey from the Fire province was a most pleasant one. As I certainly hope that the journey through the lands of my ancestors and people have been pleasant to eye. Hopefully, you will be able to enjoy your stay in Hanaguro during the tenure of your vocation here." The man said as he would eye each of the present members.

As they passed through the city, Karma couldn't help but admire how active Hanaguro was and the mysterious yet charming feeling it gave. Just from looking around, she was certain that she would want to explore this place further, while off duty. On the way, she glanced at Kensuke's back for a brief moment, not appreciating how he seemingly wanted to get things going with haste. This was yet another mission in a different setting, different people in a different province. This type of mannerism worried her that it would make them all be sent back without a question, and this time she did not have any thing she could possibly bring up to allow her to stay back. Meilin was on her own team with Madoc, and she felt a bit jealous, but she had kept her jealousy to herself, along with a straight face.

When they arrived at the castle and walked within it, she appreciated the banners and how much effort the Tamiyo had put into both the decor and protection. Once they passed the line of guards and faced the thrones, Karma listened to the man who introduced Takeo Tamiyo, before the man himself would greet them. She wondered briefly if she should say anything as she bowed towards the man in a show of respect, and remained silent for the time being.

The picturesque aesthetic of Hanaguro's misty morning landscape was quite a beauty for the Hyuuga to behold, she had never been in this area so everything she saw was a new and fresh experience. She was focused on the scenery for a while as she briefly nodded to Kensuke's words, there would be time for getting properly immersed in the town's features later on after all, in fact it's business was something she could at least enjoy the sight and sound of for the time being whilst they were led to the Tamiyo castle. Within the confines of the castle she took cursory glances to the decorations in the halls leading to the throne room where there was even more to look at, huge banners as far as the eye could see and oppulence practically dripping from the walls.

Her gaze finally rested upon the two figures sat in the thrones, one being introduced as Takeo Tamiyo and the other no doubt his wife, although it seemed her name wasn't disclosed to them. Having knelt down in a formal manner of greeting upon their arrival, she took care to rise to her feet after the gesture from the lord of the land prompted her to do so. She took a small glance over to Kensuke, checking to see if he intended to speak for them or if they were free to voice their opinions on Hanaguro to the lord before they got down to business. Kensuke seemed, to Kyoi at least, to just want to get straight to the task at hand so she remained quiet, giving Takeo, his wife and the herald a warm smile.

Rising at Lord Tamiyo's will Kensuke endured his courteous greetings. Takeo Tamiyo certainly was an agreeable member of society, but society was not why they were here. Also, Kensuke was not one for society. "Thank you, Lord Tamiyo. We have come as requested. We shall commence our duties as soon as possible." He replied on a tone that was both matter-of-factly and respectful.

The former daimyo and current governor eyed the small group with a clear curiousity. Only a second later after Kensuke had spoken, Takeo would clap his hands as he would nod towards Team 7. "Certainly. It will on the Tamiyo's honour to receive such exceptionall guests in these halls. May we speak soon again," The guards would form an opening as three servants would come to guide the team away. The moment that Team 7 walked away, they could hear the voice of the herald announcing one of the minor nobles that seemed to desire to address a problem regarding one of the bridges. But under the guidance of the servants, the team would be walking through the spacious halls of the keep. Many a form of art was present. From paintings to various other arts, such as sculptures of various designs and fashions. Slowly however, they started to encounter less of the expensive looking art pieces. One of the servants would explain that they were allowed to stay in a room as they were currently in the wing of the servants and guards. The room that was 'reserved' for the team was average in quality. Nothing that seemed bad or lacking but no form of luxury was really presented. A small window was slightly open, allowing some fresh air into the room. Once more the team would find themselves being guided through the halls. The walk took around ten minutes as they would start to encounter more guards than before. The silent men were armed and armoured in a typical Taika atire. Their makes helmets did hide most of their facial features but they clearly held an eye on the newcomers. Eventually another sort of guards seemed to be present. Less heavily armoured but still armed with various short bladed weaponry, these guards would shot a look as well towards the bypassing Konohagakure nin. Some of these guards seemed to be female but much like the heavier equipped counterparts, they didn't say a word.

The walk would come to a halt as the team would be guided to a heavily guarded door. A mixture of guards stood at the door and one of the servants would approach the largest of the guards. A swift and hushed conversation took place. The large masked guard simply nodded as he slowly eyed the team from the Fire province. With a short command, he would step aside as one guard would open the door for the servants and shinobi. Entering the room, it was clearly one of the personal chambers of the Tamiyo. The luxury that was presented was a stark contrast to the more simple room that was reserved for Team 7. In the room was a large bald man, who had various black lines and symbols carved on his scalp. His atire wasn't conform to the local Taika traditions and seemed more rugged while almost casually a handaxe and blade rested on each of the large man's hip. The only other person was a young woman with dark brown hair, reaching just a bit past her shoulders. Spotting the arrival of the newcomers in the chambers, the young woman would softly say something to the large man. The man slowly nodded and threw a bored look at the newcomers before taking his leave.

The young woman briefly eyed the new company. There was no visible expression on the woman's face that clarrified her thoughts or stance on team 7's arrival but she would shot a look at the servants and made a subtle wave at them. The servants would simply bow and leave the room. Folding her hands in front of her stomach, the woman would speak with a friendly tone present in her voice to the Konohagakure shinobi. "I take it that you lot are from Konohagakure? Apologies for not receiving you in the throne room. Some personal matter occupied me. In any way," she would make a short and graceful bow towards the team, "My name is Haruka Tamiyo. The one who had requested the presence of a Konohagakure team. Though, I suppose my second letter had not reached the Lord Commander and Hon in time. Not that it matters, now. I hope the journey was without any problems."

Bidding the throneroom and its inevitable share of plotting and court intrigue behind Kensuke followed the servant to their room in the servant quarters. He frowned at the idea, but kept his silence. It served no use to complain to a servant. Instead they followed the man through the palace. What was remarkable was the heavy presence of armed guards, all on full alert. Samurai and some men he suspected to be the former daimyo's private shinobi corps guarded the hallway to the room of their protégé. They gave the team of Konoha nin unflinching stares of utter distrust. Fortunately they trusted more in their lord's judgement than the appearence of the Konoha shinobi and let them pass after a single command.

Inside Lady Haruka's rooms they found a single tall, burly man. Tattoos covered his scalp and a hatchet adorned his right hip. If anything, not the sight he'd expected inside the rooms of the Tamiyo firstborn. The man left without a word and left them with the lady, who introduced herself. "My name is Nimatsu Kensuke, jounin leader of Konohagakure team 7." He introduced himself with the standard amount of formalities required of a jounin on mission. "We have been assigned a room by your father, it will not do. We need to be stationed closer to your rooms if we're expected to act as your last line of defence." He said pertinently. "Our travel here was without incident, thank you for asking." He then added, rapidly weaving new threads of conversation.

Raising from the bow as Lord Taimyo spoke again, Karma followed the servants that came to escort them, and on the way admired in silence the many pieces of art that hung in the halls. The presence of the many guards that did not appear to trust them did not surprise her one bit. They had come here to help protect Lord Taimyo's daughter, but that did not indicate they had to trust any outsiders. When they were shown the single room they were meant to stay at, Karma didn't feel the most comfortable, but kept it to herself, Missions were not about comfort, after all.

Soon enough they were headed towards the next location Kensuke wished to go to, The Taimyo's Daughter private chambers. The presence of the guards felt increased in this area, and as they entered the room she felt as if she was going through a tougher security check than the one leading to the inner parts of Konoha, just from the gazes of the guards. As they briefly waited for the man that was inside with Lord Taimyo's daughter to leave, Karma gave him a brief bow of her head as a form of brief greeting. Even if they did not need to know everyone, Karma still felt they should be polite towards everyone who is close to the person they needed to protect, as they would both need to know faces and perhaps also gain their trust at some point.

As she listened to Haruka's introduction and saw her bow, Karma felt like frowning at how little effort Kensuke put into his manners in return. Bare minimum would give a bare minimum in return, she thought before bowing towards Haruka "I'm Karma Minami, Genin of Team 7. It is an honour to meet you, Lady Taimyo." She said before rising from the bow and offering a small smile.

Kyoi patiently, and quietly listened as Kensuke spoke to the lord and stated his wish to get to work, upon the lord's response she gave a respectful bow of her head before following out the throne room at the guidance of the servants. Her gaze swept over the artwork lining the walls with a sense of admiration, be it at the sheer quantity of the art on show, the fact that this must have cost an incredible sum of money to obtain or the quality of it all. But soon that splendour began to dwindle as they soon shown the room they were assigned and subsequently lead on a ten minute trip through the halls, hopefully not the fastest route possible, to the room that housed their charge. Kyoi had been happy to see the simple room they'd be using, so much so that her only complaint was just how far it was from Haruka Tamiyo's room.

At the door to Haruka's room, the Hyuuga gave slow, polite nods of greeting towards the guards stationed there until they were let into the room to meet with the girl they would be protecting. Kyoi's interest was piqued by the sight of the bald man whom was just... there, really, he was even more out of place than they were at this moment but he was most certainly meant to be there so she decided against voicing any concern over it. Once again she left Kensuke to initiate conversation, figuring that saying anything at the moment would be to speak out of turn and cause trouble, though it turned out she thankfully wasn't the only one with concerns about the proximity of their room to hers even if it was blunter than she'd expected.

"Kyoi Hyuuga, Specialised Jounin of Team 7." She spoke clearly, bowing her head before speaking once more. "We'll be sure to give it our all to protect you whlist we're here, Lady Tamiyo." She would've looked to either of the other two to gauge their own expressions, but Kyoi kept her focus on Haruka for the time being.

The young woman would incline her head as the three introduced them. Her attention first went to Kensuke. She seemed to consider his words for a moment before a polite reply was returned to the tall Nimatsu. "I fear that has to do with the previous guard that hailed from the Imperial capital. Not that there was anyhing wrong but seeing that no chambers near mine are free at the moment, it will be tricky to arrange. I shall see what my father or his valet can do if I will request them. Though Hallbjörn might have some space free. Yet I doubt that he will appreciate three strangers," a smile played for a moment on Haruka's lips as she toyed with the thought, which seemed to clearly amuse her. "In any further regards, I suppose we should be speaking about the reason why I requested a team of shinobi from a different province? I should state that there is nothing wrong with the personal retinue of my dynasty or the Valley nin. A small error had been made on my mistake as I had desired the same team that had aided and took care of when the Jashin cult was getting problematic. However, it would be most unfortunate to send you back all the way to the Imperial capital. Besides, you still could aid me in what I hope to aspire. " Introducing a pause, Haruka considered how she would put the situation in the right words.

"I am aware that these troublemakers, labeled as Zealots, are quite present in other areas and regions of the realm. There have been various reports and concerning rumours that a number of these Zealots have been conspiring something in the River province. Once I heard from my stay in Konohagakure that various times people were tempted or contacted by Zealots, I desired some outside help. As a certain measure against moles, you see? While investigations are being handled and me handling some of these investigations with some personal presence, so to say, I was hoping for outside aid and protection. Hanaguro isn't a dangerous city but it isn't all charm and joy either. Certainly not if groups of fanatics are once more consipring to cause chaos and strife." Gesturing briefly to the door, Haruka continued in a calm pace. "The large man that you saw, was one of these outside sources that has proven quite useful against these Zealots. That having said, I hope that I can count on your aid as well? I am aware that it is rather risky not knowing with how many potential threats you all might deal with and I must confess that I can't tell shinobi ranks, so if you rather have another team take over, I understand and shall respect that decision."

Kensuke shrugged when she brought up the issue regarding the fact that she'd specifically asked for a Konoha team. He suspected there were political reasons behind it for what it was worth. But her personal reasoning, or at least the one she gave them now, made sense. It seemed Team 6 had left a very favourable impression after their tasks here. "That's not a bad idea." He said, nodding in agreeance when she mentioned she feared that there might be moles. "The zealots have proven to know how to infiltrate even shinobi units." He informed her as he offered her a mirthless smile. Being a shinobi team himself, it wasn't exactly information that advertised their services. But it was the truth, one she deserved to know.

"Rest assured, we have been sent to complete this mission, and we shall." He said once she was done. "There's a couple of things we'll have to run over though." Kensuke then continued as his eyes did a preliminary scan of the room. Potential hiding places for weapons, hiding spots, entrances, that sort of thing. Then his gaze snapped back to her, like a hawk's. "This Easterner, you trust him?" He then asked, cocking his head. If he had some experience with the zealots and was trusted enough to be alone with Haruka in her private quarters, he undoubtedly would be an excellent guide to the intricacies of this place. "I'd like to get a list of people you trust unconditionally in this place. It's imperative that we are stationed next to your room. We cannot protect you from the dangers your samurai might miss if we're not here." He listed, and then looked at her again, gave his surroundings a quick glance, and gave her another look. "I assume that when we speak in this room, noone listens along?"

A smile was returned once Kensuke stated that she could rest assured. It seemed more polite than anything else. When Kensuke stated that they had to discuss a couple of things, Haruka subtly nodded as she listened. Her thin eyebrows slightly perked up when Kensuke mentioned the term 'Easterner', only catching on that he meant the man that had been in the room before. "Hallbjörn seems perhaps a bit," searching for the right word, Haruka flashed an apologetic smile, "Intimidating. Or rough. But our previous experiences with the likes of his clan and kin have awoken some interest. Not to mention that Hallbjörn has already been a great boon. If he is working together with the zealots, then I fear that they would already commited some horrid actions. So yes, I do trust him." There was a firm undertone mixed with the previous friendly ring of Haruka's voice, that likely made it quite clear that she wouldn't like to hear more doubts about the large bald man. "I can arrange the list. I suppose I can also give one of people that I don't trust. Though, at the moment, that one would be quite long. As for the room, I will soon request my father and his valet to see if they can make arrangements. But until then, I won't promise anything nor say yes, Nimatsu-san." She further replied. Briefly the eyes of the young woman shot to the right, towards some material badly hidden behind a closet. A painting canvas was still clearly visible, despite the likely hurried attempts of hiding it. "As for the privacy, no need to worry. Unlike most of my family, I greatly value my privacy. The walls and doors are thick. Nobody will be able to hear us as long as they aren't in this room." There seemed to be a sliver of bitterness and a certain mocking to the phrase, but not directing towards Kensuke or anybody else present.
"If you desire, I could arrange a few matters that will allow you and yours to move freely through a few wings of the keep. Of course, you will be watched but I assume that it is clear that we can't just let recent outsiders go everywhere."

"Exactly what I needed to hear. Is there someone else in this room right now? If not, then I propose that we always have one member of this team hidden behind a fake wall in this room, ready for immediate response." He said, nodding to himself. "And yes, some freedom of movement would be appreciated." He said, mentally marking that one off the list. He'd see for himself if they could really trust the Easterner, and it was too bad she couldn't just assign them a room here. But he knew that their employers usually valued other things above their security. With any chance enough of his good suggestions would be accepted, or at least considered. "Furthermore," He said, turning his gaze back to her. "There is only so much we can do by just sitting here and guarding you wherever you go. With your permission, I'd like to proactively root them out. For starters, you spoke of investigations running to find moles or zealots. What can you tell us about those?"

"Not so far I am aware off," was Haruka's answer to Kensuke's first question. Her head slightly titled to the side as she listened to Kensuke. "A fake wall? Hm, I will have to think about that. I am not uncomfortable with one of you here on guard duty. I take it that you have some way to communicate with each other on some distance. Actually," Haruka raised her right hand to halt any answers, "I don't need to know that. As for the investigations, I will have to see which information I should share with you. I hope you understand that I am not quick of trusting. I might have already handed quite some information but in time I shall see if I can share the more sensitive information regarding the ongoing investigations and operations. I hope you understand that it takes some effort and time to trust another. Which is why I had hoped the Lord Commander and Hon would send the previous team." An apologising smile would find its way back on Haruka's lips as she would wait for any further questions or comments.

Kensuke smiled in return, although his was harder. "If you didn't trust us then you really shouldn't have let Hallbjörn leave the room." He said, and then shrugged. "So there is no little to withhold information now. Regardless, we'll do a little bit of intellencing on our own, as a safety net." He said, and then paused, as if something just struck him. "I believe a list of all servants that come into this wing of the palace would be necessary as well. Along with whom you trust among them. We'd also need to meet all your guards and servants in person. Not because we suspect all of them, but because we'll need to remember their faces." He continued.

"Is there anything else you want us to do specifically?"

"Hallbjörn was excused for other reasons, Nimatsu-san," Haruka calmly stated as her eyebrows slightly perked up. She decided to not further that subject as a small nod was given. The request to meet all the guards and servants caused the eyebrows of Haruka to rise further. "I see," she basically stated as she seemed to consider the request. "I will see what I can do about that. Like the room, I can't make any promises that I can arrange it but I will see what I can arrange." On the question of Kensuke, Haruka considered something but would shake her head. "No. I think that you got a start to attend to. A servant will probably be waiting outside. In case that you desire so, I can either suggest you start with Hallbjörn or with Aratoshi. The latter is an officer of the local retainers. He is also a confidante of mine."

Kensuke nodded. "Very well. We'll leave you to your business now then." He said and bowed before turning around and leaving the room. All in all, that hadn't been entirely unsuccessful.

Paying attention to the ongoing conversation between Kensuke and Haruka, She felt as if Kensuke was wrong to call that man in the manner he did. Just because of he had a slightly more unique appearance did not entitle him to get such a title. She also noticed the glance towards the tucked away painting canvas, which made Karma want to smirk, but she kept her calm expression. When Haruka stated they have a start to attend to, She couldn't help but feel as if Haruka was trying to make them go quicker away. Most likely due to Kensuke's nonchalant behavior, she thought as she watched him leave the room without waiting any further.

Turning back to Haruka, she decided that letting Kensuke's behavior dictate what others thought of her was not something she was going to let pass "Before I leave you to your own matters, Lady Taimyo, I wanted to know if I could perhaps have a more private conversation with you. I'm not asking for the meeting to occur immediately, of course, and I will also understand if you cannot grant me such a meeting." Karma said, her gaze briefly moving towards the painting canvas behind the closet.

Haruka would nod towards the team and seemed to turn around. Halfway during the motion she stopped as one of the team approached her. Blinking twice in a rapid fashion, Haruka seemed to waver. Turning to Karma, the Tamiyo would flash a polite smile. "I will see. Perhaps indeed later," Haruka answered, briefly following Karma's gaze. Briefly Haruka's eyes narrowed before turning her attention back to Karma, the polite smile still present on her lips.

Returning a smile, Karma bowed "Thank you for the consideration, Lady Taimyo." She said before rising from the bow and turning towards door "I hope you have a pleasant remainder of your day." She added as she made her way to the door, and soon she left the room, following Kensuke.

During the entire conversation Kyoi was patiently stood waiting for the time they would either be leaving or she would be asked to speak up, no prompts to talk came up despite how interesting the situation seemed, so all the Hyuuga did was give Haruka a small bow as farewell and turn to follow Kensuke out of the room. Admittedly she was more curious about Hallbjorn's presence more than any other detail of their encounter, it may have had something to do with Haruka's investigations into the Zealots or maybe just a private guard and attendant of sorts to the clan... Either way she wanted to find out more about him and they soon would seeing as Kensuke wanted words with him too.

Kensuke threw a glance at Karma as he knocked on the door for the guards to let them out. "You'll have more than enough time to catch up once we actually begin our shifts." He said, and nodded a thanks as the door was opened for him. He walked outside and looked around to see if this Hallbjörn was still around.

The guards outside would make some room for the team to pass by without any hinderance. Just as the team left Haruka's personal chambers, a door down the hall would open. The sight of the large man that went by the name of Hallbjörn left the room, his right hand rubbing the bridge of his nose. Closing the door behind him, the man would make way towards the opposite direction, further down the hall. A servant that had waited outside would bow towards Team 7. "I am to your assistance," the servant said. The appearance made it clear that the servant could not be older than eighteen and with a slim build, he seemed awfully frail as his pale complexion didn't do much to improve his appeal.

Kensuke's gaze switched between the Easterner and the servant besides him until he nodded at the young man. "Good. Can you find me Aratoshi-san? I would like to meet him in ... say half an hour, if that works for him." He told the pale man. It was curious how the boy could at best be two years younger than him, yet his frail physique made him appear almost fifteen. Kensuke then turned away from the servant and looked down the hall. "Hallbjörn? A word please." Kensuke called down the hall as the burly man turned away from them.

The servant seemed for a moment confused on who Kensuke could mean but he would make a bow and make his way to do what was requested of him. The large tattood man would half turn around, just as he had been ready to take a turn around the corner he was nearby. Spotting who were approaching him, a frown would appear on the brow of Hallbjörn as he remained silent while Team 7 closed in the distance with him. "Yes?" There was a certain accent faintly present in the deep and dark voice of the large man. His brown eyes moved his gaze over the group while his thumbs hooked behind his weapon belt.

Hearing Kensuke's remark about catching up later made Karma frown. It sounded as if he made her and Haruka be old friends that got to see each other again. While knowing he was just focused on doing his job, she didn't wish to have him make everyone around be completely unwilling to cooperate with them unless they had to. She wanted to inform the young appearing servant of more details about Aratoshi after spotting his brief confusion, but the young man quickly left and she watched as Kensuke walked towards Hallbjorn. Deciding to take quick action for a change, she quickly caught up to Kensuke and looked at Hallbjorn "Lady Taimyo told us we could speak to you regarding certain matters. And if I may inquire, but is your name from a Chonobi origin? I've met a few people with similar sounding names who are from the Chonobi clans." She said.

Kensuke raised an eyebrow at his student's quick interruption, and rolled his eyes at her inquiry of his origins. They were here on a mission to protect Haruka, not to talk about naming conventions. "Do you have a place where we can talk in private?" Kensuke asked the man, ignoring Karma's attempts to have a chat right in front of a dozen guards in a palace hallway.

The question of Karma caused Hallbjörn to briefly throw a glance at the girl. "Who knows." He simply retorted, clearly not eager to just spill beans to people that he had never seen before. The question of Kensuke caused the large man to frown once more. "Possibly. But why?" The man simply asked in return, no malice present in either his phrasing or tone.

The response from Hallbjorn didnt confirm or deny, only showed he was a private man. A good quality in a person, and she understood she most likely overstepped by asking such a thing without any prior introductions from their side. She did wonder if Kensuke's straight to business approach would fair any better in accomplishing things.

"Lady Haruka told us she trusted you. If we're to do a good job protecting her, it's best we have a chat." He said with a whiff of the shoulders, as if it all made good sense and there was no reason to delay. "If you're available of course." He added as an afterthought. Although, as what he suspected to be another bodyguard of Lady Haruka, it'd probably be best for him too if they talk. Even if it was just to figure out if this Konoha team was to be trusted.

For a second it seemed that the man was considering his options. A glance was thrown into the direction he had wanted to head before team 7 had approached him. "Follow me." He said while starting to walk back to the room he had left before. Opening the door, the team would be stepping into a room that wasn't as spacious as the chambers of Haruka but was clearly luxurious. It even had a small window that provided some view on the courtyard and other parts of the keep. There was a rack where various weapons were hanging of various designs and origins. Closing the door behind him, Hallbjörn would simply step a bit more into the room before turning back to team 7 and cross his arms. He remained silent, waiting for somebody of Team 7 to speak up first.

Kensuke nodded and followed the man inside what appeared to be his private quarters. They were luxurious to the point that Kensuke suspected the man was no simple bodyguard, or one with a reputation of his own. He glanced over the weapon rack and nodded appreciatively at the two spears and the long axe. Simple. Efficient. He turned to Hallbjörn and gestured for Kyoi to close the door behind them and gave Hallbjörn a look. "We're a team of Konohagakure shinobi who've been sent here - at Lady Haruka's request - to act as bodyguards against the threat of the zealots. I have done my research, but that only ever goes so far. We need to build up some data of people we can trust and how things work around here. You're not from around here and Lady Haruka said she trusts you, and given that you're allowed to be alone with her in a time like this, I take it that trust borders the absolute." Kensuke began, looking the Easterner in the eyes to judge his reaction. "She also said you've been a great help so far. That include any previous attempts or the running investigation towards the zealots?" He added.

Kyoi, quiet as ever, followed the conversation that lead them into Hallbjorn's room, her gaze drifting over everything in there. They lingered on the weapon rack for a moment before she shut the door to the room as per Kensuke's gesture whilst he was busy talking to the man, otherwise she kept quiet, mostly surveying the room with her eyes once more and activating her byakugan to make sure no one was trying to listen in through any of the nearby walls or windows.

The words of Kensuke caused Hallbjörn to briefly scratch his lazy bearded chin. A light scoff resonated from the man when he heard that Haruka trusted him. "It seems so," he briefly just commented on that. "Zealots? You folk sure have amusing terms for these sámr. But yes, I have done a bit of hunting. Not that I yet see any reason why I need to share information with people who I don't even know by name." The calm voice of the man held a sliver of amusement. "Other than that, I doubt I will be much of interest for your kind of folk." This statement would go together with Hallbjörn lightly shrugging his shoulders.

Following Hallbjorn into the room, Karma also listened in silence to the ongoing conversation. Both sides made points, but she understood Hallbjorn not wanting to share information with people who did not identify themselves as more than 'shinobi from Konoha' "I'm Karma Minami, Team 7 genin from Konohagakure." She introduced herself with a short bow, while thinking to herself that saying he wouldn't serve any interest beyond the information on Zealots would probably be off, both related to their mission and perhaps, if he would be willing, beyond it. But she would keep that thought to herself as she rose back up from the bow.

"Believe me, you will be." Kensuke said, shaking his head. They were inside a palace. It would be too much to say that Kensuke would kill for a pragmatically-minded ally who wouldn't colour his speech with flowery language, but it was close. "The name's Kensuke. You don't strike me as some fancy courtier. Which is to say, you'd probably know more about the practicalities of this place than most others we could ask." Kensuke introduced himself.

The man barely seemed to acknowledge the bow from Karma but did subtly incline his head towards the introduction. His attention shifted towards Kensuke as the Nimatsu spoke up. "I am not. Probably would make myself look like an idiot to say those fancy words," Hallbjörn grumbled as first reply. "I might, yes. The thing is that in my trade, doing matters for free is a rarity." Hallbjörn seemed to consider something as he eyed the group. Pointing at Kensuke's sheathed sword, the large man nodded. "How about either a trade or some ransom?"

The man's words piqued his interest when he said things weren't done for free. When the man suggested a trade and pointed at his sheathed weapons, that interest grew, along with a sly smile. There were some things he wouldn't trade. "Certainly. What did you have in mind?" He asked.

"You claim that you serve in the interest of the Tamiyo, at the moment. They are currently my source of revenue. If our goals align and we thus work towards a similar goal, there won't be much harm in keeping a weapon of yours ransom." Hallbjörn said, at first. He would glance at the visible gear that Karma and Kyoi had on them. "In order to safeguard my own trust somewhat, I want to make certain I have some leverage. Until, it is proven you truly are what you proclaim." The man concluded as he waited for what the answer would be.

Kensuke grew a grin once he knew what the man was talking about. He unsheathed his blade, casually, carefully, and handed it over for Hallbjörn to inspect. "Feel free to take a look." He said, unable to hide his pride over the newly forged blade. "I don't mind an insurance policy, it's good sense when you're dealing with shinobi. You must know of course," Kensuke said while he drew two kunai from hidden sheaths while he looked the Easterner in the eye. "that shinobi have fallbacks. Lots of them." He shrugged and put the knives back where they came from. "But let me ask you, wouldn't taking away my sword make me less capable of protecting our employer? Are you certain that this is the leverage you'll ask for?"

Taking the blade with a rather casual motion, Hallbjörn frowned. He studied the steel and ran a thumb at the blunt back of the katana. A soft grumble resonated from the large man. "I am aware. Dealt with worse." Shrugging lightly, Hallbjörn decided to bring up a question. "Hyuzu steel is rare to get by. Expensive and well sought after. Even more than Ecla forged weaponry. Stole it?" There was an amused tone accompanying Hallbjörn's question, marking it as a not serious accussation. "As to answer you question, not really. You got 'lots of fallbacks', don't you? If you thus don't mind, I will keep this princess with me. In any case, I will be willing to pledge on Valdar's name to not use it. I am used to my own equipment, anyways." Another shrug followed as the large man would wait to see what kind of question would be asked first, now that the deal seemed more or less sealed.

Kensuke shrugged. His pride flinched at the thought of leaving the sword with the Easterner, but as he'd said, he had lots of fallbacks. "Bought it. It's not cheap, so I'd rather you didn't lose it." He said. "But let's start with the beginning. How do we know that the zealots are trying to hit Haruka?" He said, consciously avoiding to look at the sword he'd just given away in loan for the man's trust.

As she paid attention to the ongoing conversation, Karma couldn't help but grasp a hold on the rope of the naginata that hung on her back. She hoped she wouldn't need to part from it. But the way he observed the sword made it somewhat clearer Hallbjorn appreciated metalworks, something she unfortunately did not have much knowledge at, and the mention of Ecla forged weaponry made her wonder if he is from the Chonobi clans after all. But she decided to stay silent some more for the time being, not feeling like she could contribiute anything to the conversation currently.

"I won't. I almost wonder now if you are afraid to lose one of your many fallbacks." A grin started to play around the corners of the man's lips. The question, however, caused the man to gain a serious expression. "Easy. They consider themselves clever but some of them are easy to spot. Got a sensor with you? I reckon the Hyuuga can come in handy," Hallbjörn threw a look at Kyoi as he spoke of her, "Some of those cowards have this weird chakra fluxation. Enables them to turn into beasts. Ironicaly, I enjoy hunting beasts. There are some who are more human but they haven't attempted to infiltrate the keep or surrounding. Yet," was Hallbjörn's answer on Kensuke's question.

It seemed to be a weird trade, loaning the Hallbjorn the sword Kensuke had recently come into ownership of in order to gain his trust, but if it got the man to trust them even a little she couldn't complain about it. The only problem was that she wasn't sure if she had any possession to offer in terms of trade if she needed to give something too, it thankfully seemed to be only Kensuke who had to offer something though. She raised a brow at being referenced to by Hallbjorn, but gave a small nod upon hearing him. "I will certainly keep my eyes out for them in case they manage to make their way into the keep, is there anything else about them that I should know? I have been informed about similar creatures before that could also drain chakra so I need to know if my arts will be effective or not. If you know, of course, sir."

"There's both shapeshifters and worse, the leaches. Both are very capable of hiding in public, although," Kensuke underlined Hallbjörn's statements, and paused to look at Kyoi. "they've proven to have a far harder time hiding from the Byakugan. They might seem like their appearance is different to your eyes than ours." He explained. "We've encountered them before. I can give you a look in the files I have on them." He added with a glance at both Kyoi and Hallbjörn. "What's the investigation taught us so far? Anything on their presence, plans or contacts? Haruka mentioned she feared moles, how large is this threat?" He then asked

Hallbjörn chuckled after hearing Kyoi's response. "There are worse creatures than what the sámr have conjured so far." Kensuke's addition made Hallbjörn consider something. "Pretty large, I reckon. I have dealt with various expeditions to sniff those cowards out of hiding. Almost managed to capture one but they tend to be fragile. Nothing concrete regarding their plans, though. Though I do believe that there is a plan in work to flush out some out of hiding. But you got to ask Haruka for permission to know more about that. I won't be participating. My main occupation here isn't to hunt men and beast, after all."

Kyoi nodded in affirmation. "I'll read over those once we're done here and stay on watch in case I see something amiss. I'd like to suggest that it may be best for me to be stationed in or near Haruka's room more often than yourself or Karma so that I can keep an eye on the area surrounding the room with my dojutsu. If you think it would be put to better use surveying those coming in and out of the keep, or even checking the city's citizens itself, then I have no qualms with that. I just have a preference to staying completely hidden whilst observing."

Tilting his head, Kensuke smiled at the burly man. "What are you here for then? Clearly you're not ordinary bodyguard, but you are employed in their service." He asked. "I'd also like you to tell us who you trust, and where you'd suspect any moles might've infilitrated. Your opinion as someone outside the system's better than the lot of them."

Hallbjörn seemed anything but interested in the conversation and planning that Team 7 had regarding guarding Haruka. The man briefly scratched his neck, only to look at Kensuke as the latter asked him a question. "My occupation here? A trainer of some sorts. The hunting is simply a boon, in my perspective. As for who I suspect and trust? I won't say that yet. I thought that you shinobi were capable of uncovering secrets and information." An amused expression became visible on the man's features. "So far, I had to give more than I assumed you managed to take yourself. But as things stand right now? I don't see any reason why I should share my opinions with you lot, yet."

He sighed, shook his head, and then laughed. "Right. We'll get on with our business then. Don't hesitate to let us know if you notice something out of the ordinary. Or if you feel like your opinion's worthy of being shared. Fair day to you." He said and turned around for the door, waiting to hear the man's reply.

"What is your surname?" Was the responding question of the large man, who once more folded his arms out front of his chest. He briefly threw a look at Karma and Kyoi, his gaze lingering a moment longer on the Hyuuga as she hadn't introduced herself. But that didn't seem to bother Hallbjörn much as he directed his attention towards Kensuke.

"What's yours?" Kensuke replied with a smile.

For a moment, Hallbjörn remained silent. Slowly a smile would grow on his lips. "Hon."

Kensuke's smile grew into a wolfish grin. "Nimatsu." He said, and headed back into the hallway.

Karma gave Hallbjorn a small bow before following Kensuke towards the hallway. While hearing that fact he was a Hon was a nice confirmation of her suspicions, she didn't want to indulge any further in it right now, as they still had another person to talk to, or at least, one Kensuke wanted to talk to, and the last thing she wanted was to hear another one of his remarks.

[fieldbox="Tentou Aburame, lightgreen"]
Team 9 Chuunin | Empire of Akino

Having gotten to know Shikaroku more during their first initial night, Tentou was pleased to find herself enjoying her new team. She wasn't quite sure, of course, how long this partnership was going to last, but for now it was pleasing to know that she was with two people who might find her an interesting study (and in Hiron's case, somewhat weird), but weren't actually scared of her. Shikaroku didn't seem to judge her for her bugs, instead revelling in a strange sort of curiosity surrounding her techniques and possibilities.

They broke camp and set out in silence. The two students following the teacher as he made his way to the path they would take towards the border. Tentou had maybe been to the area once in her life, but had no active memory of her current surroundings. She found herself sending out her bugs unconsciously, keeping an eye out where she could not. When Hiron suddenly changed course, Tentou looked at him confused. She didn't question his orders and followed the man into the thicket, but wondered what he might have spotted that she had missed. In a way, Tentou was rather sure of her own capabilities to find things in her immediate vicinity, but now there was nothing. There was nothing that should make the older man tense, and yet here he was, growing more wary with every passing step. She could see it in the way he moved.

The rising fog that they found themselves in at some point didn't help. Hiron ordered them with a sharp voice she hadn't heard of him before to restrain all ninjutsu. Just to be sure, Tentou called all her bugs back to herself. Suddenly she felt blind. She didn't complain, but found herself eyeing her surroundings almost erratically, her eyes moving left and right as their teacher placed his hand on his tantou.

Nothing happened.

When nothing continued to happen and the fog dissipated, Hiron spoke up. They were getting close to the Hanta lands, about to enter it in fact. Move quickly, don't attract attention, get to the rally point unnoticed, that basically summed up his words. Tentou was still unsure as to why the man had been so frightened by the fog which, to her, had just seemed like…fog. But she figured that the man must know more about the situation than she did. If he thought the fog was something to be wary off, then surely he had a reason.

The days passed as they travelled further and further through the Hanta lands. More nothing happened though the comfortable conversation and ease of manners that she had first found in Hiron had disappeared and made way for a troubled look and closed off reactions. She had shot multiple glances at Shikaroku as if to silently ask what was wrong with the man, but didn't actually question the sudden change in behaviour. Ninjutsu was still forbidden so Tentou kept her bugs close. She allowed them to scout ahead ever so slightly and kept them out during the night, but didn't allow them to go far.

When they finally rested again, Tentou placed her bug jar on the ground with a somewhat heavy sigh and stretched. She hummed softly as she inspected one of the straps on the bug jar that had been annoying her for the last hour and adjusted it accordingly, one eye still on Hiron as she watched him perform what mostly seemed like a calming ritual. "So," she said, turning to Shikaroku with a smile to give the other man some space, "How long have you been at this job anyway? Ever been in the Hanta lands before?" It was nonsense small talk really, questions that honestly didn't need to be asked, but felt good to get out anyway. Little bit of casualness while being on a highly important and secretive mission was… good. Kept an air of normality around the whole deal. Reminded her that they were still just people too.

Mika Hayashi,

| Leader of Kiri Team 14| Republic of the Water Country | Kirigakure, capital of the Republic - In the Oda Compound |

The jounin watched how her genin started to search the establishment. There wasn't much that was in a decent or even good shape left in the spacious interior. Slowly walking Mika threw a few looks around. Most of the material that could have been investigated was likely already removed. The thick layer of dust and silence marked that fact clear. Yet Mika crouched near a spot that seemed to be different. Narrowing her eyes underneath the cover of her hoodie, the jounin noticed a subtle difference. A bit of the dust was absent. Judging by the size, it had to be a foot but as Mika placed her right hand right next to the odd spot, she saw that it was much bigger than what a normal foot would be.

Pulling her hand slowly back, Mika threw a look over her shoulder. Both Aya and Taishiro seemed to still be searching carefully for clues for recent activity. Pondering on her options, Mika would rise up. "Stay on guard. Somebody or something has been here recently." She warned her students. Deciding to turn around, she heard the soft crackling of wood at the ceiling. Instantly, Mika snapped the fingers of her right hand in an attempt to catch the attention of her genin as the jounin peered at the ceiling. Some more wood softly cracked, probably due to some pressure on the second floor, slowly moving to the spot between Taishiro and Aya. Then a pause, silence echoing.

The silence would violently shatter as the ceiling suddenly caved in, bring down some small rubble and dust. A loud growling emitted through the violence of the breaking material. A large dark silhouette would attempt to move quickly down with the falling material, trying to lunge at Taishiro. Only to be intercepted by a whip, wrapping around the left leg of the large shadow.

A soft grunt resonated from Mika as she attempted to halt the large figure, who clearly didn't seem eager to play along to be dragged. "Rally!" Mika shouted as she wanted to give another instruction, only to hear something to her right. A deep snarl was the only warning that she got as another large figure burst from the nearby wall, ramming against the jounin. The force was strong enough to slam the woman against the ground. Causing the water whip to disperse.

Slowly raising itself up, the dust would settle down and reveal the menacing foe that had appeared first. A large bipedal creature with mangy and dark fur covering its body. The lips were pulled back, revealing a large set of nasty looking canines and fangs. The two small black eyes shifted between Aya and Taishiro as the two genin would see a smaller specimen about to try to lunge at their downed jounin.

Summary:
The allied force that approaches the enemy camp from the southern direction moves in for the attack. The fierce attacks surprises and overwhelms the enemies first layer of defense as soon chaos is followed by bloodshed and violence.

Part 1.

[spoili]
Masami felt as if her body was on some sort of automated mode, not even needing the instructions her mind was sending out. She quickly dispatched her last foe and hurried to the meeting called by her commanding officer. From the looks of it, she was a highly skilled person." Dummy, of course she is. She is in command", she thought for herself. Having no ninjutsu that would gain unwanted attention, she could let lose on this next camp. If her body will not betray her, of course.
She quickly got into position and waited for the sign to begin their attack. Once again, she found a perfect, slightly elevated spot to strike from. And when the arrow flunged, she moved with it.

Using the chaos caused by the other and the fact that she was attacking from behind, she quickly dispatched a guard. A quick slash from the kunai in her right hand cut through the tendons of the man, making him fall forward. Another Gentle Fist strike at the area of his heart ended his life in a second. She hurled the kunai she was holding at a nearby guard that noticed her, hoping it would penetrate his neck. The man managed to dodge in the last second, though the kunai left a cut on his neck. Moving with precision and ruthless determination she found unnatural to herself, Masami closed the gap within a second. She dodged a swing from the blade the man was holding and struck at this stomach, causing great internal wounds. She heard a groan as she reached for another kunai with the intention of finishing her foe - and that second almost cost her her life. Instead of lodging the kunai firmly into the neck of the man, she deflected the sweep that would split her skull onto her arm, leaving a deep cut on her right forehand despite her using her Gentle Protection technique. She wanted to cry out in pain, but her mind did not allow her to do so. Using the kunai that she was still holding, she jabbed it downwards, into the elbow of the enemy. Then with one lightning quick movement, she pulled it out and slit his throat which followed with another strike - one that crushed his heart. She let his body fall to the ground, then she looked at her arm.

The wound was deep, but the blood loss was not critical and most importantly the chakra pathway system was not damaged. She put the kunai back in her pouch and dashed towards her previous one that missed the man. Picking it up, she headed back to where the fighting was the thickest - not that it was really it. There were more men left in the camp, but they were in complete dissaray. She approached another enemy from behind and kicked his knee from behind. The man plumetted down with a loud crack coming from his leg. Masami granted him a swift end by striking his head with a Gentle Fist strike, ending his life instantly. " Not so Gentle now, ... ", she thought.

The fighting lasted not that long. Overwhelmed from various direction, it didn't take long for the allied force to take down the present enemies. A disturbing silence dawned upon the camp with many dead of the previous denizens lying in the snow. Saki wiped her blade clean by using a shred cloth from her last opponent. As expected, nobody of their side had fallen to the likes of the enemy weapons or attacks. Letting the bulk remain in the camp and rest from the brief clash, Saki would send out various scouts to advance ahead of the bulk of the present allied force. She was worried that there could be stranglers or perhaps even those who had managed to escape in the chaos of the ambush and fighting that had followed. Once a few of the scouts had reported that they could move to the next planned position, Saki would dispatch stern commands for everybody to once more to get moving and remain as silent as they could be.

The cold snow cracked underneath their boots and while the thick clouds prevented the moon from shedding much light, Saki wondered if it would start to snow soon. It wouldn't be likely of any negative effect right away but she wasn't a big fan of fighting in the snow. The bulk soon reached their new position where they had to remain for some time. Faint sounds originated and resonated from the large camp. It was quite visible from the position of Saki's detachment. The sounds that were softly audible made it appear as if some large festive event was taking place but it had been clear since the enemy's contact that they weren't likely acceptive to share a pint or two with any of the allied force. Saki felt a sense of dread slipping through her confidence as her pale blue eyes stared at the massive camp. There were so many tents that she wondered how far they could punch through. Perhaps they wouldn't be able to even disturb the inner camp of the enemy, that was said to be behind simple fortifications.

Out of the dark, a scout from another detachment came with an instruction. They were to attack within a few minutes. This caused Saki to grow more grim than she already had been since the start of the evening. "Listen," Saki said on a normal tone as she raised her left hand as a fist into the air to gather the attention of those under her command. She reckoned that it was quite more than she could see or make out from the dark but she hoped that they would listen to her. Not one for speeches, Saki didn't start one to inspire morale or inspiration for them to do more damage. "There is the camp of the foes that hurt or killed your brothers in arms and blood. Your countrymen and other brave men that didn't need to die! This night we will bring them the retribrution that they are craving, cause even now they don't care more than to feast and proclaim your lives worthless. I don't know about you all but I am going to make it clear that I intend to sell my life for quite an expensive price! Those who feel the same, with me!"
Turning around, Saki would signal for them to advance as she started to run. No battle cry or shouts would follow as she would be followed. Running as fast as she could, Saki resisted to see if she could see if they could notice movement in the dark as she expected the forces from the center and southern approach to launch their attacks soon enough as well.

Once reaching the perimeter, Saki would whistle hard while she kept running. The whistle command would result into various Tiger Claws to deploy with their bows to unleash projectiles at any visible watchers. Narrowing her eyes, the Yamanaka didn't slow her pace as she reached the perimeter of the camp. Spotting the men in their rugged and low quality gear, just acting as if they were on a camping holiday, increased her drive to punish them for their earlier deeds. In a quick and fluid movement, Saki moved in for the kill as she ran towards a duo of men. The steel of her blade flashed through the light of the nearby campfire, biting deep into the neck of her first victim. The nearby and second foe stumbled a step backwards but his reflexes kicked in as his right hand went to his hip to grab his hatchet. Only for him to gain a kick in the stomach. After delivering the kick, Saki would twist her blade slightly and let the sharp steel slice through skin and flesh. Freeing her weapon she wouldn't wait long to deliver another fast strike to cut down the second opponent as more allied forces moved into the camp, catching many of the camp's denizens by surprise.

The initial combat had been fast, Toshi was sure that the first watchpost had fell in less than a minute and the small encampment that followed met a fate the same as the watchpost, caught off guard and overwhelmed in a period of minutes, and all the while Toshi had simply watched it happen. The first attack had been swift and brutal, nothing like the ranged surgical strike he had been expecting. It all happened so quickly that Toshi hadn't had the time to even throw the kunai he had previously prepared, instead he just watched as left and right the enemy fell to projectiles or the blades of those crazy enough to enter the watchpost. The second camp had been much the same and Toshi had refrained from taking part in it as well, instead watching as projectiles downed enemies and soldiers and shinobi alike ran into the fray quickly downing those who remained. He had walked through the second camp as they were leaving it, all around were the bodies of the enemy that had attacked them earlier, Many of them stuck in the positions that had been in when they were caught unawares by arrows or kunai, a few seemed to have been lucky enough to arm themselves before they were cut down, and then there were the lucky ones that Toshi found in the tents, their throats slit as they slept in their now stained crimson bedrolls. It stuck Toshi that this was only the prelude to the actual attack, only a taste of what was going to come.

When they had formed up for the real assault Toshi had felt his stomach drop when he gazed over the massive encampment, 'It dwarfs the allied camp...' he thought to himself as the Akinian shinobi that was leading the assault seemed to motion for everyone to form up. She gave a rousing speech, or at least Toshi thought that's what she was aiming for before she signaled and the real assault began.

As everyone took off running around him, Toshi stood with a sigh before grabbing a kunai from his pouch, he watched the group leave him in the darkness as they charged the main and reluctantly took off behind them. The initial stage of the assault was well executed, the few enemies on the perimeter of the camp that could have been lookouts were dropped from afar with minimal effort by the Akinian forces and then the group descended upon the camp to cause as much damage as they could. Entering the camp a solid minute behind the rest of the group, Toshi walked in on an efficient slaughter just like the last two camps, there were bodies strewn across the ground leaking their dark crimson insides across the mud and snow. Some of the bodies were where they were when they were struck down, as if they had been staged to look alive some leaned against crates and sat in makeshift chairs, their eyes still open and staring endlessly into the dark of the night that had allowed the Allied force to kill them. The sounds of brief combat wrang out from somewhere ahead of Toshi, somewhere on the other side of the tents that he was standing in front of, and instead of running toward the sounds Toshi found himself moving toward the tents. He lifted a tent flap slowly and gazed inside, the body of a man easily noticeable on the ground infront of the entrance, his face cleaved apart, but farther in there was another man, wrapped snug in a blanket of animal fur and snoring ever so softly. Toshi stepped over the body at the door carefully before kneeling next to the sleeping man, slowly he would lift his kunai up and to the far side of the mans neck.

With a quick movement Toshi pulled the kunai across the mans neck and stood as blood began to run out of the deep gash. He stared for a moment as the man didn't even try to stem the flow of his life escaping him and instead just stared at Toshi before his eyes would shut. Quickly leaving the tent, Toshi would take his first breath since he had entered the tent completely unaware that he had ever stopped breathing in the first place. He looked towards the sounds of fighting ahead before making his way to the next tent in the row.

The woman's words brought back the horrible feeling of loss that Kenshin had suffered, he looked away as she mentioned the losses of brave men and brothers. The boy wouldn't let the feeling of loss cloud his judgment though or dictate how he would move on this night as the heart of the camp would be very difficult for them to drive through due to the large perimeter of enemies around it. As everyone started to move off silently, Kenshin would notice Harada Toshi become last of the queue, Kenshin was sure that the Genin was moved off before him, still confused as to why he was so behind, Kenshin would decide to leave it, "Maybe he is planning something of his own." Slowly the queue would break and divide as everyone began to take out the enemies.

Kenshin observed as the commander took her enemies lives, her pale blue eyes not even blinking. Kenshin would take out his kunai, the first enemy he saw he would drive it into the back of their neck and then slice their throat while keeping their mouth covered so they could not make a sound.

The idea of killing something that should be considered such a grim topic and hard to perform action, had slowly started becoming second thought to the blue haired woman. That little girl her parents had always scolded for getting into trouble and raising to be a woman who could stand up for herself, was this what they had wanted for her future? Well it was who she was now no more days of carefree youth, no longer was she that little girl with all the other children in the little group of kids they called the Little Runts. As Saki gave the speech, while it was noble to want revenge for those comrades that currently fell she was going to fight for the defenseless at home that shouldn't have to fall for their failure. So when they charged, it wasn't a charge full of shouts of courage and vigor, but a charge of certainty.

A whistle would pierce the air and the arrows that were launched would pick off the enemies that may have been able to give the head up to their own comrades. The scene was just like the last two before them, unexpected enemies acting as if the battle earlier had never even happened. Miu had charged along with seeing Saki take out a couple of enemies and would follow that up with a running slash with her axe. The axe would meet with the unsuspecting man's face taking him off his legs as his lifeless body hit the ground. Hearing the thud, one came out of a tent only to meet Miu's axe, where she kicked him right back into the tent. Pushing his body back in head first with her left foot.

The chaos would spread as the allied force swarmed into the camp. In the midst of the chaos it was hard to keep count of how well things were going but the denizens of the camp were poorly prepared. Some tried to form up in groups to repel the raiders and others attempted to make a run for it. Either trying to move more inwards to the center of the camp or trying to just get away from the violence. Fires were already starting as allied force used either campfires or ninjutsu to start them. Smoke started to form dark columns, rising upwards as singed fingers that tried to reach for the cold dark sky.

In the midst of an allied force that kept pressure on the enemy, Saki wasn't too far away from the fighting. The combined force of the allied soldiers and shinobi were cutting with ease through the enemy force. Parrying a strike from a mace, Saki's blade had little trouble to be directed and slash across the man's face. Just as Saki's opponent would sink on his knees, his hands shooting to his face, Saki was forced to relocate her attention to a new threat. Leading a small group of Tiger Claws to keep the advance going on, they were facing a small group of enemies that tried to drive them out. A poorly executed shield wall rushed towards them and collided with the Tiger Claws. Grunts echoed together with screams as blood would pour from fresh wounds. It didn't last long or the enemy formation was routed. Shouting an order to halt at the top of her lungs, Saki tried to assess the situation. Before she could instruct that she wanted to form up a formation with more numbers, the sound of horns would ring through the air. Piercing through the sounds of the surrounding conflict and chaos, it took Saki a moment to realise that was the signal to fall back. Before the words could leave her lips, an intense cold moved through the air and caught the Yamanaka surprised. For a second she just was frozen and staring at the direction from where the intense sensation had came from.

"Fall back! Back to the river! Now!" She shouted as she would gesture to the surrounding Tiger Claws to move with her, forming a small rearguard. The enemy couldn't perhaps understand their language but some gained a small measure of courage by seeing that the allied forces didn't plunge deeper into their camp. Their attacks would do nothing but hold up various groups and formations of the allied attackers, but the cold sensation seemed to become stronger with each passing moment.

In Amegakure.
Team 8 with Sho Deshuga.

A collab between Fieryfly, Jason, Tim, Inzane and Lesli.

Summary:
The team that is following Aiko's leadership manages to enter the prison facility in Amegakure. The heavily fortified complex harbours some of the most dangerous criminals of the Rain province, including Soru Deshuga. With Sho being able to verify that Soru is indeed still in chains in the dark, trouble seems to be on the rise.

Part 1

[spoili]
The man had raised his head when the window had opened and as Aiko had stepped aside, his eyes had been staring up at the first light he had seen for awhile. And he stared in the face of his son. Sho stared back, all the words he had wanted to say suddenly lay forgotten in the back of his throat. His brow furrowed and his fist clenched.

"Finally come to see your father, Sho?" Soru's voice had the same annoying tone as it had always had been. So knowing. So condescending. "It's been awhile. You've grown."

Sho's rigid posture, mostly attributed to his nerves, suddenly slouched. Somehow he had expected words of malice or whatever, but this, this was normal, this he could handle. "You haven't," he retorted.

"How can you tell?" A cracked smirk. It was not really a question. "Ah, come on, nothing nice to say to your old man?"

"I've nothing to say to you, asshole."

"Then what the fuck did you come here for?" The reply was instantaneously, the swear word used as casually as Sho did in his daily life. "Here to gloat?"

Sho rolled his eyes and looked to Aiko. "Yeah, it is him," he said. "Now what do w-" "How's your mom?" Soru interrupted. "Still living alone?" And instantly Sho's semi-calm (for him) reaction to the whole situation was gone. He whipped his face back to Soru so fast that it hurt his neck. "You don't get to say shit about her!" he said, jumping forward, his hands against the celldoor. "You don't get to say shit!"

Soru chuckled. "Well, at least they haven't beaten that spirit out of you yet. Was worried about that when I got locked up. But that's good. You'll need that."

"To beat in your face until it is nothing more than an unrecognizable mass of flesh, yes, I need it for that," Sho spit back.

"What are you waiting for then, hm? I don't see you stepping inside. Those words are just air. I didn't teach you to keep your words air. If that had been the case you wouldn't have learned Water Prison in three bloody tries." If Sho hadn't been in an unreasonable state of mind he might have detected a faint hint of pride in those last words. But Sho didn't care how Soru was saying things, just that he was saying things that he didn't like to hear. "I made you do it. So come on, or you're going to keep standing there like a weakass little bitch?"

Sho looked at the little window as if he wondered if he could get through it somehow. Then to the doorhandle and the empty keyhole. He needed to get into that cell somehow.

Remaining silent during the interaction, Aiko did pay close intention to the exchanges between Soru and Sho. It was clear that Soru was still in his prison and that was a good sign. But this also cleared out that Sho had anything to do with the insurgents that claimed to be working for Soru or the zealots. Nodding slowly as Sho stated that it was him, only for Soru to cause Sho to become agitated. The jounin couldn't give a dime about Sho or his personal life but this wasn't the situation where she could use a chuunin that lost focus on their goal and work. Before she could intervene and pull Sho away from his source of anger, audible sounds from where the others came through. Following the gaze of Sho, Aiko would grab the boy the shoulder and push him slowly back, away from the door. "Focus. Let us first focus on the more pressing matter. Then we can come back and make that bastard swallow some teeth," Aiko told Sho in a stern tone as she would already start to walk in a brisk pace towards where the others were.

With an angry move, Sho slapped away Aiko's hand from his shoulder. He was half way inclined to ignore her words and just smash the door to pieces right now. But he was not stupid. He might not know the woman beside him very well, but that didn't mean that he didn't realise that she would probably disarm and beat him in like five seconds. There was no way he could beat her in this state, at this moment. He turned away from the door and did his damn best to ignore Soru's taunting voice that come from the cell, calling him weak and pathetic. He wasn't weak and pathetic, he knew that and yet somehow if his father said it, it felt almost like it was true. He was walking away now, wasn't he? "I'm coming back for you bastard..." he mumbled under his breath as he followed Aiko back to where they left the others.

The eerie tranquillity of the dark hallway would soon gain a new source of sounds, approaching the group that Aiko had directed to hold guard. The sounds of boots resonated through the air as it was clear it was a group that came down. The fact that the hallway wasn't in entirety straight meant that the sight of the group couldn't be spotted. But slowly a light seemed to stem from the other direction, heralding the approach of the group. Appearing around the corner, the newcomers were clad and equipped with the uniform of the prison guard and a member of the police corps. Spotting the four shinobi barring the way, the police officer frowned and spoke up.

"What is the meaning of this?" The officer asked in a harsh tone. The man seemed to be in his forties and the light of the torches reflected upon his bald skull. "Who are you lot and what are you doing down here?" The officer demanded to know, his right hand slowly moving to the handle of his club.

The moment that she heard approaching the sounds of an approaching group, Tomiko turned and called after Aiko. "Somebody's coming!" before turning her attention back towards the end of the hall. Watching the group step into the end of the hall, she swallowed nervously. The genin turned to look uneasily up towards Hiraku, figuring her brother would know what to do here.

Hiraku kept his expression blank as he watched the group before him. "Special orders." He said, wondering if that was the right choice for the situation. As he watched the group, Hiraku slowly realized that his words might not have been the best choice. But going back on it at this point, might actually do even more harm. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw Tomiko slowly reaching for her bow, recalling how Aiko had mentioned a warning shot.

Kazumo would nod towards Aiko's orders as they were simple enough, watching her walk away with Sho to go find the man they were looking for. Not that long afterwards, however, some footsteps would resonate through the area, the sounds belonging to the guards of the prison while one was from the police corps. Obviousl, the man began to question them as a police member should do, yet they were here on orders so they couldn't budge. When Tomiko spoke up, he looked at her as if he was waiting for her to follow the next step of the orders, only too see her looking at Hiraku who basically said nothing of value. Sighing at both of their shortcomings, he would draw his bow and notch an arrow. Aiming he would fire the arrow so it hit the ground about five inches away from their feet. "What they forgot to say was that is far enough. I wasted one arrow, I rather not have to use another."

They had their orders. They were to stay right where they were and to not let anyone pass. Should anyone come, they should fire a warning shot and warn Aiko sensei. Of course not long after Aiko sensei and Sho left a group of men, some dressed in the uniform of a prison guard and one dressed in the unifmorm of a police officer showed up. Neji grabbed a kunai blade from his pouch and held on to it. Should these actually be the zealots in camoflouge, they they would have a battle on their hands. Tomiko turned and yelled out to let Aiko sensei know that they had company. Then Hiraku said how they had special orders. If these men really were prison guards and a police officer than that phrasing may not have been the best. Though Neji doubted that they were legitmate guards. It didn't seem as if the guards came down her every often, and it would probably be only one or two who would come give food to these criminals. Kazumo then shot an arrow that landed about 4 inches or so away from the group that approached them. Neji was impressed, it was a very good shot in a small area. The room was tense, you could feel the tension in the air as both groups looked at each other. Neji stayed silent waiting to see how this would play out. He looked towards the rest of the group. If they got into a battle it was a very small hallway which would make it difficult. Though with Kazumo and Tomiko carrying bows, they could pick them off before the groups reach each other. Neji turned his attention back to the new group as hear waited to hear their response.

The officer and the few guards quickly reached for their weapons as the situation seemed to grow tense. Eyeing the present, the officer was about to say something until he saw Aiko and Sho joining the others. "I suggest that you all drop any arms you have with you or else we will have to arrest y--" Suddenly the voice of the man came to a halt as his eyes widened. Before anybody could react, one of the guards would thrust a long dagger into the back of the officer's neck. The other present guards would quickly move forwards with drawn weapons as a chilly cold started to spread into the hall and even seem to dim the light. The short distance seemed to be little trouble as the few guards ignored the sudden presence of the chilly aura, attacking those of Aiko's group closest to them.

The genin's eyes went wide as the man was suddenly stabbed from behind. Tomiko took aim and released arrow directly towards the man who had just stabbed the officer. The man fell with an arrow sprouting from his forehead, dead before he hit the ground. "Stay towards the ba-" Hiraku began to warn her, as she simply responded with a firm 'I know'. Then took a step back, aiming for the next target and careful to avoid hitting her allies. She swallowed nervously as it suddenly became apparent that the cold presence from before was emanating through the hall. She quickly activated her Byakugan, hoping to find the source of it this time around.

Turning his attention back towards the front, Hiraku threw a kunai towards the closest man, aimed at his foot. It hit, just barely, but caused him to stumble, and hopefully opening him up for another to finish him. His Byakugan activating, another man surged towards him. Striking at the man with an open palm, he sidestepped an attack, and the two locked into close combat.

Keeping his gaze focused on the guards, Aiko and Sho would rejoin them only for the officer to begin warning them only to be cut off by the guards that he came with. A long dagger would protrud from the back of the man's neck, as Tomiko would fire off an arrow taking down a guard. He was about to notch his own arrow when a chilling sensation hit him. There was even one here? Just how many of these fuck were there? It mattered not, only Aiko and him knew how to really kill one of those bastards. If one showed it had to be one of them that took it out. What dumbfounded him was Hiraku throwing a kunai clearly at someone's foot. And now was engaging in close quarters with him. Pulling his knife out, he would move in grabbing the guard by the collar. Since he was distracted fighting Hiraku, he would yank the man back and stab his knife into the man's neck followed by slashing to the side causing the wound to open. The man clutched it for a moment but would drop quickly. He had hoped Neji and Tomiko had covered their backs while this happened.

Neji would keep his gaze towards the men who were down the hall. It was becoming a tense situation as both groups were taking out weapons and staring each other down. Aiko sensei and Sho would rejoin the group just as one of the officers wa sbegining to speak again. As he was about to say that they may be under arrest, he was stabbed in the neck by one of his own men. Neji immediately activated his sharingan as he held out his kunai blade The remaining men ran at them down the hall as it looked like they had a fight on their hands. Then he felt it, that chll again. That could only mean one thing and that was that one of those things was back. They seemed to be everywhere and the only people who seemed how to know how to kill them were Aiko sensei and Kazumo. As much as Nei hated to admit it, he wouldn't be much use against one of those things. So that meant he should focus on the men that were attacking them. Neji saw Kazumo run over to help Hiraku who was tnagled up with an enemy. Tomiko was using her bow. One enemy got past her arrows though and made his way towards Kazumo who had his back turned because he was dealing with the enemy Hiraku was tangled up with. Neji jumped into action and threw his kunai at the man striking him in the back of the neck killing him on the spot.

[fieldbox=A Smelly Operation, orange]
Nishi Hirashima,
ANBU member,
Kirigakure, at the south-western part of the city.

The first to arrive was one of the Swordsmen. Nishi knew his name before the briefing had been given. Atsuko Uragiri. The one who owned the Hiramekarei. The one who murdered the previous owner in cold blood. Not to forget, an infant. Of course, Nishi didn't give much of a damn about it. She wasn't about honour or going to make an issue out of it. While the notion that the man was a murderer, she wasn't that much different. Only with the exception that she had never taken the life of an infant. Her targets and victims had one thing in common.

They were old enough to be aware of that they were going to die or were already dying.

From the cover of her mask, Nishi eyed the swordsman. She wondered if he would give the same cold treatment he probably had given Rika Suzu's infant to the insurgents. It would be actually quite beneficial if he would as that could save her work and effort. Though, she didn't spot the hulking weapon with the man. Perhaps he would try to show his worth without the stolen weapon? That would be amusing. A swordsman without his sword would just be a man. Nishi pondered if that could account for Atsuko as well.
Then the second member of the small unit arrived. The Yuki chuunin. Not much that Nishi knew about her but she figured that there wasn't much interesting to delve. The bow of the girl was just taken and no sign or gesture of returning respect was given.

There was a moment that Nishi threw a glance at Atsuko when the Yuki called Atsuko her sensei. That was amusing, in the opinion of the ANBU operative. Turning around, Nishi would head into the small and darkening alley without a word. Nothing should be said. They were one of the small units to enter the sewers from a certain point and attempt to 'flush' out the insurgents. Nearing the designated manhole for this team's operation, Nishi crouched. Pulling the heavy lid away, the strong scent immediately greeted her. A soft grunt escaped the woman's lips as she would climb down the manhole. The large sewers weren't that old if Nishi remembered it well. It was built during the reign of the Fourth Mizukage in order to improve the hygiene in various sections of the city. But in the short reign of the Fifth Mizukage, everybody seemed to just forget anything about the Fourth. Save it for his errors and cruelty.

Reaching the bottom of the ladder, Nishi would step down. The soft sound of water being disturbed went together with the internal sighing of Nishu. It was rather dark inside the sewer but if they would start any light, then that could alert the insurgents that were hiding in the sewers. Or the other people who on occasion made use of them. Such as beggars and some thieves. Waiting for the other two follow her down, Nishi decided that her best bet would be to trust on her capability with Silent Killing. Moving as silent as she could, she realised that any kind of scent would be lost in this place. Which could be a disadvantage for them but also for their targets.

Aya Oda | Genin of Team 14

There seemed to be nothing of use or importance in this place, just dust and destruction. The way most of the compound as she knew it had been like for a quite a while. Yet when her sensei told to them to stay on guard as something had been here recently, she would pause and shoot her a look of disbelief. If anyone was here, why would they be in this destroyed tavern of all places? Not much longer after she gave the warning did some soft crackling become audible overhead. Mika snapped to get their attention towards the sound, which was when Aya started pulling her katana out slowly. A quiet sound of the blade exiting the sheath would fill the slight silence, as Aya was ready to strike at anyone who came downstairs. However she wasn't prepared for how they came down.

The ceiling caved in sending dust and rubble to the bottom floor, the sudden event startle her enough to cause her to stumble backwards as she raised her arm to cover from any dust or rubble that may impact her eyes. That was when a large silhouette was spotted moving quickly with the rubble and was pouncing at Taishiro, would have gotten him as well if it wasn't for some quick acting on Mika's part. A water whip wrapping around the leg of the figure halting any surprise attack it may have tried. Mika told them to rally and looked to say something else before a loud snarl sound echoed, and with it another large figure ramming through the wall and into Mika sending her to the ground. With her being sent to the ground her water whip also dispersed.

With the dust settling the large figure would stand up revealing its not human appearance. It was another one of these human wolf things. Aya held the katana in her hands and looked to see the one who rammed Mika getting ready to pounce at her. She had very little experience fighting whatever these things were, and it annoyed her they were all in her home compound destroying the place. "Help sensei." Aya spoke towards Taishiro as she charged at the one closest to them. The strength difference was obvious just by looking, she had to hope she was faster and could deal a fatal blow. If it came down to power she was going to die. As she charged at the beast, as she neared it she suddenly lower and used the little momentum she had to slide towards the beast near the end and took a swing at its right leg with her sword.[/fieldbox]

Taishiro Kanai | Team 14 Genin | Kirigakure

Taishiro didn't understand why sensei was telling to be alert. As far as he could tell, there was nobody here in quite a while. With a light sigh, more fueled by his unease at how creepy everything was than anything else, he turned back to searching. Only for a snap of the fingers to cause Taishiro to turn quickly towards the source. Slowly his gaze tracked upwards at the sound, about the same time his eye locked on where the cracking stopped. It was so still, so silent Taishiro could practically feel his heartbeat reverberating off the walls. Then the silence was shattered, and the floor to match. Some... thing burst into the room and immediately lunged towards him. A mass of messy fur, gnarly teeth, and muscle. The genin thought for sure he was dead, but before he could even think to grab his sword a whip of water lashed out and yanked the beast back a bit. Moving quickly, Taishiro made his way towards Aya in case it came back for round two. That was when he heard, and saw the second one taking down their sensei.

Then their beast stood up. Whatever it was, Taishiro immediately assumed it was friends with whatever terrors lurked in his mind at night. Practically frozen in fear, his voice caught in his throat. What the hell was this thing!? He took an uneasy step back, fear firmly gripping his mind and telling him a simple message. Run. There was no way that he could take this thing, they were dead. He didn't want to stay around for that, not in the slightest. But his legs did not move, somewhere in his mind, he saw this beast standing over his bedridden father. He couldn't run, but he couldn't will himself to fight either.

Then Aya told him to help sensei, and quickly began an attack on their beast. As if snapped out of a stupor, Taishiro became suddenly aware of the situation. Aya was going to fight that massive... monster, and he had to help sensei who was about to become dog chow on her own. Knowing he wouldn't make it over there in time, Taishiro formed a single handsign as multiple shurikens formed from water and flew viciously towards the beast about to attack Mika. As they flew, aimed to hit the beast on the side or at least anger it, the boy drew his Ninjato. Mentally preparing himself for the violent attack that would no doubt come next. Out of the corner of his eye, Taishiro kept an eye on Aya's fight the best he could. Hopefully, she would be able to hold her own against that thing...[/hr][/fieldbox]

Yukimi Yuki | Chuunin | Kirigakure

So this ANBU wasn't much of a conversationalist. Not that it bothered her, she wasn't confident that there was much a need to break the ice with an idle conversation at the moment. Following the ANBU through the alley until they reached a lone manhole.
She better not expect me to go in there. I'm worth too much to g- She thought in disgust, though they were cut short when the ANBU opened the manhole and began to climb down. Wonderful, they expected her to go into the sewers. With an annoyed roll of the eyes, the chuunin began to follow the ANBU down the manhole. The first thing to hit the chuunin was the repulsive scent of the damn place. Then thinking about how it would take forever to get the scent of this damn place out of her clothes. Then how many baths she would need in order to feel clean again. Her mood took a severe turn for the worse at these thoughts, and the slight splash of water moments did not help in the slightest. She already hated this place, this mission, and whoever was drawing their unit down here.

It was dark, and Yukimi much wished she could have some source of lighting for this darkness. But she figured that would go against their mission. Seeing as their friendly neighborhood ANBU didn't produce one, and she much doubted the other had some sort of supervision. As her irritation grew, the air immediately around Yukimi started to chill slightly as if in response to her mood. Being used to the constant cold anyways, Yukimi did not particularly notice the drop in temperature despite being the source of the cold emanating through the air. Though when she accidentally touched the wall and found it to be colder than it should've been, she was quickly clued in. Reigning herself back in, Yukimi thought about one of the few benefits of being in the sewer. She had plenty of water, which was absolutely disgusting, but would still be usable to her advantage should it come down to combat.

Looking up towards the top of the ladder, she wondered when Atsuko-sensei was going to join them. Afterall, he was just missing out on all the fun down here in the dark, dank sewer. In the darkness, as she waited for whatever would come next, Yukimi crossed her arms and stood in silence. More or less pissed off at the entire situation, and how she'd have to get father to buy her a whole new outfit after this. Afterall, this one was no doubt about to be ruined going down here and it was one she had worn with the idea it could get dirty. She just hadn't particularly been expecting to be in this... crap. It was absolutely disgusting.[/hr][/fieldbox][/hr]

Madoc Yamanaka| The Witch of Team 4

As both females bid their farewell leaving just the men, he decided it was time he put his skills to the test and earn back his money and his teams money, although he wasn't going to inform them of that part. While the one male seemed a bit bummed out the lovely Aoi had vanished from his sights, he would look at Madoc and give a shrug. "It very well could have been, although seeing you had money to lose, it might have just been a random pickpocket. The Thieves Guild hasn't even done anything really, it was simply a rumor they returned." the young man said to which the others would agree to as they drank their beverage and continued on with the game.

Madoc would give it a shrug and a smile as his gaze fell to his drink then back to the men. He took a look at each of them, then he took a sip from his drink. "Gotta love a bustling city. Its the small things that make you smile am I right?" he said which earned him a few laughs but his eyes had already locked onto his prize. The brain of the young man was now his for the taking. He had to scavenge past all the... unsavory parts of the man's mind, and the bits that made no sense. Yet he came across the topic he wanted to know about. "Man the thieves guild really is back again? I thought that rumor of them plotting something huge was just bogus. Didn't the watch take out their headquarters? Man I hope they don't end up stealing from me next! I barely make enough as is!"

Typical thieves planning something huge, it only made him more certain that pickpocket was a member too. If only they weren't on a mission he could have tried to get in on it. It only made him more curious as to what this huge plan was. What would be considered huge in this place? Anything regarding the Tamiyo probably, although it wasn't thieves that were after the heir... or were they as well? Maybe the zealots infiltrated the guild, it would explain a supposed resurrection in a way. If he had the chance he should try seeking them out what better than a thief to find a thief.

Just as he was going to move on to winning his money back, another interest came to mind. Something Meilin would probably like to know, well bits of it anyway. The same man had a rather peculiar thought about Aoi, this one more child friendly. "Man that Aoi girl was so god damn cute! I should have engaged her more in conversation! A nice looking girl like that would make any man a nice wife, she has this air of being holy like. Like those Monks! Although shes way more lovely, and less secluded if she came down to the level of commoners like us. Man to think those monks are taking their religion that seriously, only letting the truly faithful near them. With so many different faiths, you're bound to make enemies if you only welcome the ones that approve of yours near you. Huh maybe thats bogus too. Thinking of it, it was also said that they don't let anyone in unless you know some secret saying or something that only the truly faithful would know. Ouch this is a shit roll... I think I can wing it."

It may have been useful to know about the monks seclusion, although the reasons why were pretty retarded. As only the young man and Madoc were still playing as the other two decided to sit the rest of this round out. Madoc let the young man get cocky and bet a good amount of money, only for Madoc to call the bluff and reveal his dice were better than the young man thought. The win made even the others bang their hands on the table and laugh a bit. Madoc smiled and shoveled the money over to his side "Man if you had a woman, I bet she would be jealous on how badly I just fucked you." Madoc said which made the other gentle erupt in laughter, even the young man who had loss. "Well while I still have money, I will call it quits here. Night gentlemen." he said as he made his exit from the table.

"I see those pretty looks isn't all you have, your skills at taunting are just as good. Yet lets see if you are all talk. Another round gents?" The oldest man of the three at the table, probably a veteran or something. Yet despite being older, he was clearly the type that would win a bar brawl. The man was like a big ass bear. Which the other male seemed to think as he pried into something probably very stupid. "Man I wanna bail out, but who could say no to this guy when hes says something? Hes like a giant bear! Those rumors of a bear stalking the city in various areas is probably just this big ass lug when hes drunk and walking around. Okay man you can do this! One more round and you bail!"

However despite knowing what their results were he had no need to call them out on anything, his numbers were better than theirs which made him the winner. Sure enough to his own word to himself, as soon as he lost he made for the door after uttering a quick goodbye. Which left just himself and the old veteran. "Ahh and like that the true players are left, what say you boy. Do you have the balls to risk it all one more time?" the man said to which Madoc would run his hand through his hair and smile. "If you want to lose money that badly I suppose." Madoc retorted which earned him a smirk. "I see much of myself in you young lad, only you are much smaller. You are like the twigs I would break daily when I was younger. So tell me lad what you think of that nonsense of the nobles complaining about unfair high landtax. Nothing has even been raised!" the old man said slamming his fist on the table, clearly a bit enraged by this whole situation regarding the nobles.

The one piece of information he didn't have to pry from them, it was refreshing and it was something he could believe just by hearing to be true. Some nobles were like this, they make a whole situation up just to get some attention to their family. Its why he disliked most of these rich people, some were too prideful for his liking, some were stubborn old mules, while some were just downright assholes. They made perfect targets those individuals, usual when a true situation happened to them it just seemed like it was blown out of proportion when they bitched that much. "Its nonsense rambling of some self entitled rich snobbish man. Give it a few weeks and they will complain that such and such disrespected them, or the police were trying to cover up something that happened to them." was Madoc's response which earned him a pat on the arm and a nod to show that the veteran agreed with him.

As the game went on, Madoc with some respect for the old man... gave him a merciful defeat and beat him at the match while the old man's money wasn't all being placed as a bet. Sighing the old man gave a gentle smile as he stood up. "Ahhh I haven't had this much fun, since my younger days, when me and my pals caused trouble all night long. Thank you young lad. I should be going, but you be careful now. Even though its highly unlikely, keep your wits about you. Anyone could try to claim your life and money. If it can happen in the Pink district, a place where crime is one of the lowest. Then it can happen anywhere. Gahahaha! Although with all your earnings, I wouldn't blame you for having some fun! Gahahaha! I hope to see you again young lad!" the veteran said laughing the entire way outside the tavern.

Smiling as he put all his winnings away he would sit up from the table, he learned some useful things today, and some not very useful. He still felt he was right about the thieves guild being their best bet, yet he should explain to the girls what else he learned. Who knows maybe he could end up bribing them to get their own money back~. With a cheerful whistle he would leave the tavern to go rejoin his fellow teammates.

Saki Yamanaka

| Spc. Jounin | Konohagakure Team 6 member| Captain-Major of the Guardians | Second-in-command of the Tiger Claws |
[ Wolf Country - The northern direction of the Night Raid, enemy main camp. ]

Parrying a strike, Saki would not allow her foe to take a moment of respite. Her own sword quickly followed in motion, the point driving into the hostile man's arm. A scream erupted but it was likely drowned in the sound of chaos, destruction and fighting for others. The knife that Saki held in her left hand shot forwards and before the man could respond, the steel edge cut through skin and flesh. Blood would heap up in the throat of the man, who tried to reach out to his new wound. Only, however, being kicked backwards as Saki jerked her sword loose. A second of reprieve was granted with her latest kill, allowing the Yamanaka to overview the situation around her.

The air was filled with smoke and the tension of the ongoing violence. Many of the allied force started to push the enemy back and starting fires and destroying tents and carts. All together, they were making good progress and Saki felt her heart swelling with pride. She spotted how combatants from the Empire, Lightning Country and Republic were fighting side by side and for a moment she couldn't help but wonder about a thought. Turning around, as she heard shouts.

"Enemy approaches in large numbers!"

That was bad. Narrowing her eyes, Saki tightened the grip of her sword as she shouted out orders. It wasn't yet the time to fall back. While they were doing considerable damage, the plan was to wreak as much havoc and destruction as they could. Going into the fray with a group of Tiger Claws, Saki had no problem to ignore the blood that they were spilling. There was no time or place for mercy, mistakes or regret. It was dying or killing, nothing else. The fight continued as Saki parried, attacked and directed her forces but it was getting harder as the chaos was spreading further among the ranks of the enemy and their own.

Stepping aside, the Yamanaka drove her knife into the neck of a man that attempted to put out a fire. Jerking out the knife, the young woman turned around and noticed a younger man that tried to get away, running away from the violence and chaos. Throwing the knife as hard as she could, Saki watched till the weapon soared through the air and hit its mark - the nape of the man's neck. While her target fell down on the ground, Saki was forced to already turn around and face another opponent. She managed to land a parry and drive her new assailant backwards. But before she was able to lash out, another opponent came charging in. Cursing, Saki felt how her heart skipped a beat.

A mistake was made as she tried to deflect a blow but hadn't paid heed to the first opponent, who tried to move in with his short sword. The attack wasn't directed at her chest, protected by her armour, but at her neck. Instinctively, her left arm would reach up in order to take the jab.
The pale blue eyes of Saki widened as the attack would be brutally cancelled. The man that would have taken her life, would be slammed in the side. A figure shoulder bashed the man down to the ground. While the figure landed on top of him, Saki's attention went back to her other opponent.

Seeing how her enemy attempted to lash out at her right leg, Saki would step aside. During the motion, she moved her sword with her and at the end of the step lashed out. The steel blade slashed the man's face and the following jab ended the hostile soldier's life. Jerking her blade out, Saki quickly threw a look at the figure who had come to her aid.

"I got your back!" Hideki grumbled, barely audible for Saki, as he rose up. He was covered in blood and mud but he didn't seem to pay much attention with being unclean. Holding a short blade in his right fist, he nodded to Saki.

For a moment, Saki wanted to deliver a witty reply back but just nodded back. Briefly, a small smile crossed her lips as she was certain that they would make it. Together.

Grunting Saki would push the man down while jerking her blade from the dying enemy. Around her were various Guardians and Tiger Claws, working in almost perfect cohesion in order to take the enemy out and spreading fire. Panting lightly Saki wondered how many enemies were on the run to the more safer parts of the camp to rally with a counter-movement and how many were staying behind. It felt like there was no end to them at this rate.

"Yatori! Sound the horn! Phase two! Now!" Saki shouted as she wasn't too certain on how the overall situation was going. But seeing that no horns were resonating from the southern directions, she expected that the other attacks were going without a problem.
"They have to."

Noticing a group of enemy charging at them through the smoke, Saki cursed as she would pull out another of her knives. Armed with her sword and a knife, she joined the fray and held the enemy at bay with both a bunch of Guardians and Tiger Claws. Where they had managed to execute the previous groups who had made an attempt to drive them back or worse at a rapid pace, there seemed to be little to no stop of enemies pouring in.
The blue hue of chakra started to shimmer around the edge of her knife, stretching quickly out. In a quick slash, the chakra reached out and cut down one opponent. Together with her comrades, Saki started to make way through the enemies, managing to hold the line.

A cold shiver went through the air and slightly confused Saki. While she stepped backwards, trying to disengage from the fighting she tried to find the source. She saw how the collective force of allied forces, as some of the Republic military joined them, were taking the enemy out. The hair on the back of her neck started to raise and she wasn't too certain of what the cause was.

"What is... Am I..."

Confused and growing worried, Saki frowned underneath the cover of her helmet. Then she noticed a new group of foes charging at them. They were clad in armour, steel plated lamellar armour and helmets, while armed with round shields and better quality weaponry. The arrival of the newcomers caused the allied line to be slightly pushed back and Saki already noticed that various of the allied force fell down wounded or dead.
Quickly moving back into the fray, she firsthand experienced that these new foes were much better in skill than the troops of before. They stayed in formation against the allied force and for a moment were making some headway to push Saki and her troops backwards. Growing angry, Saki threw all she had at the enemy line. Rapid attacks were deflected and hit the stubborn round shields of the enemy while they attempted to jab with spears from their second rows.

Three times already did a steel edge of a spearhead scratched against her armour. The durable steel Tiger Claw armour did hold, so Saki didn't bother too much with it. Then out of the blue, various projectiles soared through the dark night sky into the group of the armoured enemies. Various men dropped as arrows or small objects managed to hit a mark. A moment later small explosions erupted in the ranks of the enemy, disrupting their formation and cohesion. Allowing the allied force to gain the upper hand as from the flank shouts and battle cries erupted. Soon enough the enemy found itself being confronted from two sides by allied forces.

When the last of the better armed and trained enemies fell down, Saki noticed that the flankers were a group of Tiger Claws under the leadership of Sashi, who nodded towards Saki. Much like the other Tiger Claws that had come to their aid, they showed clear signs of action. The blood mixed with dirt and ash said enough that they had kept themselves busy.

Much time for rejoicing wasn't granted as Saki spoke up. "Get moving! Quick! We will need to follow the second phase!" The order was followed without any need to be repeated. Spotting Hideki coordinating the present Guardians, Saki whistled sharply as she approached the Hyuuga. "I could use some of the Guardians to locate and help to cover the ground of the allied forces that fall back. Think you can lend me some aid?" She asked, trying to flash a smile, which probably would be quite wry.

"We will. You can count on us, ma'am." Hideki flashed an uneasy smile as he saluted towards Saki. There was some visible hesitation as he turned around, like as if something was on his mind that he wanted to tell her. Letting him do his job and coordinate the Guardians, Saki would head to her the Tiger Claws who were more than ready for more.

Then just as she was about to speak up, a blood curling screaming erupted from the side. Turning as fast as she could, a bitter cold spread all over Saki's body. Causing her to freeze for a moment as her eyes widened. She had learned how to master her emotions, even fear, to a great extent. Being able to suppress them and achieve her objectives with the desired efficiency. Yet now she couldn't get the idea and feel out of her system that she was going to die. More enemy troops came charging at them but they weren't the source of the dreadful experience. While the regular footsoldiers of the enemy clashed against the present allied forces, Saki spotted a large figure walking through the smoke. There seemed to be a certain kind of bubble of space, that kept the enemy footsoldiers away from the armoured figure. Black armour of some exotic and yet archaic design covered the person from toe to head. In his right hand he wielded a longsword, but its design being odd. To the end it slightly arced and there were strange markings on the blade so far Saki could see.

Deciding to join the fray, she reckoned that the odd figure was one of the leading figures. The way how it was heading in a calm pace towards them. Managing to fight through the ranks of the enemy, Saki found herself standing in the way of the black armoured figure. It was somehow harder to even breathe in the presence of the intimidating foe but she took comfort in the fact that if this was one of those dreadful opponents, that had been spoken about before, that she had the right weapon to face it.

A soft hiss emitted from the armoured foe before it lashed out, in a much faster speed than Saki had anticipated. Barely able the Yamanaka managed to deflect the attack. The heavy vibration that moved through her right arm while she moved wasn't lost on Saki.
"Damn." She tried to lash out but the opponent managed to parry her strike and already came back at her with another attack.

[ Wolf Country - The northern direction of the Night Raid, enemy main camp. ]

Stepping aside for the swing, Saki leaned away as the sword past her and cut a bypassing enemy footsoldier. Much to her surprise none of the enemy foot soldiers had intervened and seemed to even hold some space, save it for a few exceptions. Her eyes narrowed as she shifted her attention back to her opponent. It was clear that her skill in close quarters wasn't good enough to topple the fight in her favour but she couldn't spot any opening into the enemy's defence. For what seemed to be a lumbering armoured person, she couldn't deny that the dreadful foe was fast and strong. One good blow and she doubted that even her armour could prevent her from wheezing or worse.

Just as she feinted, causing her foe to raise his blade, Saki was about to lash out. Trying to drive the edge of her Dragonsteel sword into the chest plate, she felt how a grip tightened around her right wrist. Gasping for air as she experienced a cold like none before, Saki's eyes widened. Just before she could even try anything, an alien sensation rushed through her arm.
"Fuck!"

A loud shout pierced through and gained Saki and her opponent's attention. While the allied force was making short work of the enemy foot soldiers that came pouring, somebody managed to get through the ranks, two short blades in each hand. The charge of Hideki seemed to surprise the black armoured foe, who released Saki while turning to the new threat.

A flurry of attacks clashed against the threat as Hideki didn't seem to know any mercy or restraint while pushing the intimidating figure to back away. Surprised Saki watched for a second before she regained her composure, joining in the attack. Together she and Hideki managed to land various blows but Hideki's swords didn't do more than to distract the armoured foe.

A scream then suddenly flowed out of the black helmet as Saki felt how the air was slammed out of her. The armoured left fist of the black figure landed a fast punch against her helmet, causing a heavy vibration to move through. Struggling to keep standing and her vision blurry, she felt how she was fell on her back. Gasping for and trying to get up, Saki blinked rapidly with her eyes as she felt something hot against her face.

"Ugh..."

Hearing a soft groaning, Saki felt how the world slowed down as her vision rapidly came back. Staring at how Hideki was lifted from the ground as the sword of the armoured figure pierced through his stomach, the colour of Saki's face paled away. Feeling a sharp sensation at her eyes, she tried to get up but felt how she was slammed back with a kick. Grunting, Saki slid over the muddy ground while attempting to get up as fast as she could.

"Hideki!"

Her voice was shaking and hoarse, barely having a volume that likely was audible. While the Yamanaka was getting up, trying to shake off the dazed state and pain, she saw how the armoured figure raised his blade higher while Hideki was still stuck on it. The Hyuuga grunted louder as he attempted twice to stab the dreadful foe but to no avail. Blood flow over the dark grey blade of the figure's sword as the sharp edge cut and tear through the innards of the Hyuuga Guardian.

"NO!"

Wolf Country, night raid - enemy camp.

A collab between Sketching and Gerontis.

Summary:
The center attack goes quite well. The allied forces wreak havoc, death and destruction upon the enemy. Koike only finds himself separated from Katsu and tries to find the latter. Once reunited in the chaotic and assaulted camp, Koike briefs Katsu in that they are about to move to the second phase. Which is to fall back. Only to hear horns sounding from the north. Worried about Saki, the two decide to try to make way towards the northern section of the attack.

[spoili]
The chaos was growing as the allied force was starting to grow worse. Koike fended off an attack from the right. The enemy that was attacking him wielded a spear but his inexperience was showing as he tried to go for Koike's legs, causing him to lean forward and be rather predictable. It would have been an easy fight for the Hon if it wasn't for another foe trying to slam a mace in his face. Between the parrying and evading, Koike had barely time to launch a counter-attack. Grunting Koike would parry the mace with his sword and block a jab of the spear with his shield. Pushing both back, he didn't have much time to launch an attack. But as the mace-armed foe shrieked an angry battle cry, his eyes would widen. A sharp blade penetrated the man's throat, the tip of the steel blade briefly shown before pulled back. Koike's other opponent would collapse as an object would hit its mark in the spearman's chest.

A bit surprised, Koike saw Torrad Sarutobi nodding towards him. "The gods aren't done with you, sir!" A grin dawned on Torrad's bloodied features as he shot a glance around them. More of Torrad's men joined the fray or provided covering fire for retreating allied forces. The enemy seemed a bit wary for testing their steel against theirs but there were various men of the enemy side that stormed forwards, only to be greeted by steel of the 13th brigade. "Where is the small lad?" Torrad asked and Koike instantly felt worried. "Lead the retreat! I will make sure that I will be following suit!"

For a moment, the Sarutobi captain seemed to be opposed to the idea but nodded. As Torrad took over the command and his men started to begin their bloody work, Koike would bite his lower lip while trying to find a sign of Katsu. There were pockets of allied forces stalling the enemy advance with either ninjutsu or bare steel. Seeing a few Republican soldiers fighting off a small wave, Koike decided to head over. The burning equipment, tents and camp structures fielded some dark smoke that made it difficult to navigate around. The sounds of dying, screaming and battling people also didn't offer much respite for Koike as he was forced twice to hack down a person that tried to do the same to him.

A momentary blinding light pierced the smoke like wind. As the light subsided, the smoke started to clear as one of several clashes going on became clear over a small distance. Katsu swung his sword across the neck of his blinded opponent as a second one flailed his hammer around aimlessly, knocking the blade out of the young nin's hand. His movements had dulled and slowed, the blood staining his cloak weighing his spirit down. As the man swung his hammer wildly to Katsu's face, the boy dove to the side, letting him crash into a bunch of crates. To the man's surprise, his breathing became harder as something forced itself up his throat, spewing out of his mouth. At that moment he noticed a trembling arm sticking out of the crates he was standing over, holding a knife into his chest. As the arm retreated, Katsu pulled it out of the lightless ground under his body with the bloodied knife, stumbling to his feet.

Parrying a strike, Koike grumbled a curse as he felt a light vibration across his arm. The sharp edge of his sword made short work of his opponents rather thin linen clothing and the skun underneath it, piercing deep into the man's stomach. Slamming the rim of his shield against the man's chest, Koike would jerk his blade out in the same motion. Lowering both his shield and sword, he felt truly lost for a moment. His breathing became irregular as his heart was skipping beats. There was still fierce fighting ongoing but no sign of his friend yet. Another opponent came rushing through the dark smoke, demanding Koike's attention. Deflecting the blow of the man's blade with his shield, Koike would thrust his own weapon forwards. In a smooth motion, the Hon managed to defend himself and take his enemy down. "Katsu!" He would shout from the top of his lungs as another foe dared to approach closer.

As another assailant approached Katsu, he tripped and fell as he saw the boy's crimson eyes. Katsu turned to the voice, staring in disbelief for a moment before taking a couple of steps towards it. "Koike?" he called out, speeding his pace up to an imbalanced sprint. He was almost in arms reach when the wind was kicked out of his lungs. A burly old man stood over where he was as he rolled across the camp, coughing and wheezing on the ground. He reached to one of his few remaining knives, trying to prepare for the fast approaching enemy.

The burly man raised his arm, a crude looking mace present. Before the weapon could be swung, a scream pierced the air. The man sinked on his knees as he screamed out in agony. Using his free hand, Koike grasped the man by his hairs with his left gloved hand. Piercing his weapon into the back of the man, he grunted. Giving the weapon a small twist before jerking it out, the young man glanced worried at his friend. "Come on! We ought to get out of here! Party is over." Koike said on a louder tone to make himself properly audible for Katsu, leaning forward and reaching his free hand towards Katsu. "Are you hurt? Can you run on your own?"

Katsu tried to respond but could only wheeze. He shook his head up and down, left and right. He coughed and reached for the hand, grasping it weakly. As he got to his feet, he stumbled. "Soh...ry..." he said to the best of his ability.

Flashing a smile, which probably seemed wry, Koike would pat Katsu's shoulder with his left hand. "Don't be. Come before we get overrun here." Turning around, he would give a gentle push for Katsu to get running. There wasn't much that they had to do anyway than to get running as many of the allied forces were. If correct, the back up would be ready to stall the advancing and following hostiles with steel and chakra. Hearing a horn from the direction north, Koike wavered. He knew that Saki was leading the raid's attack from the northern direction. Cursing softly, he wasn't sure if he should fall back now or see what was going on. "That has to be the northern deployment! Saki is there. I want to take a look. Captain Torrad is leading the troops to fall back in my absence. Get to him if you want to get out!"

With the push, Katsu couldn't stop himself and kept running. As the horn sounded he came to a slow halt, catching his breath. He looked down south before turning back to his friend. "I'm... I'm fine. If I just catch my breath..." His voice faded away as he shook himself. "I won't get in your way, but... If you're both there, I can't go back yet."

"Well, let us hope that the gods aren't craving our presence yet then," Koike replied, trying to sound upbeat. Which was hard when he considered they had to find and cut their way down south. With a burning and fighting camp, filled with hostiles, between them and Saki's position. He considered to use the teleportation technique but that could effectively distract Saki. Which could yield horrible results. "Keep close and let us hope that we won't gain a song yet!" Trying to flash a grin, Koike turned south and started to jog. The enemy was preoccupied with combating the fast spreading fire and destruction. Various men that Koike considered officers were trying to instruct men to kill fires. But he also noticed that pockets of enemies were actually fighting each other. Taking that as note, he would keep on moving.

As time had begun to pass, Katsu felt uneasy. He felt something crawling up on his skin that bothered him. The wet feeling on his clothes and body had started to disappear as the blood on him began to dry without being freshened up. He glanced over at his friend and then back at the camp they had been fighting at. "Thanks, by the way," he said. "I don't know what I where I would be if you hadn't found me..."

"Probably in Lord Akumu's hall," Koike replied back. One of the hostiles noticed them and tried to bar their way. With a quick hack, Koike dispatched the man and joined his friend in their way southwards. If it wasn't for the spreading fire, they would have paved their way through bodies and blood. Several horns sounded through the turbelent night, causing Koike to kick the speed up a notch. He reckoned that couldn't be good as it didn't sound like any of theirs. [color=wheat"Can you keep up? We need to move faster!"[/color]

Katsu slowed and came to a halt, holding his finger up to gesture his friend to wait. After a few seconds, he formed a few seals in succession the light hitting the ground around him got weaker. "Thankfully, it's night," he said. "I think I can keep up if I use shadowstep." The chakra wrapped around his legs as they had when they had first altered the technique, but didn't reach up to his entire body.

Waiting for a second, Koike wanted to say that Katsu should be careful with usage of chakra. Not only for the possibility of those dreadnaughts or however they were collectively called but also to preserve some strength. Nodding, however, as he had faith that Katsu wouldn't squander energy in a situation like this, Koike would lead them once southwards. From the side, he noticed various individuals that seemed different. While the majority of the hostiles were clad in poor equipment and armed with weapons that he considered even bad as scraps, he quickly noticed that up ahead were more properly armoured men. They were standing over the corpses of various regular footmen of the camp. Grasping Katsu's arm, Koike would nod towards the group up ahead. "They are new. Don't seem to be the regular force." Just as Koike finished his sentence, three redcloaks appeared and engaged in a conversation with the armoured men. "Just our luck." Throwing a look at Katsu, he opted not to ask Katsu to linger behind. Judging the numbers of the present enemies up ahead to be around, at least, a dozen he wouldn't be able to just sweep in and take them all out by himself. "Ready?"

"Yeah. How do you want to go about it? We could try taking care of it more quietly," he suggested, the black chakra wrapping his legs fading lightly as he remained still. "If we're lucky, we can get most of them before we even need to draw a sword."

Koike thought about it as he shot a look at the group. The armour was foreign but it was clearly nothing too crude or seemed to be of the kind that could be punctured easily through. The red cloaks and armoured hostiles were in a discussion from what he could decypher from their body language but it could very well be that he was wrong in his assumption. "I want you to aim for the red cloaks. Try to avoid hitting them in the mid section, where they have some armour," Koike began as he tightened his grip on the hilt of his own blade, "I will try to take care of the others." Waiting a second, Koike would imbue the steel of his sword with a light blue hue of chakra. The soft sound that indicated the intensity of the energy was blocked out by their surrounding, however. Hopefully, that would also make their approach less easy to be detected.

Nodding, Katsu pulled out two knives between his fingers in his right hand. He moved with his body lowered around to find cover near a tent just behind the talking redcloaks. Holding his breath, he took a moment to listen to the cloth of the tent before sneaking under the side, to see it empty and dark. He moved closer to the sound of the cloaked warriors speaking just outside and steadied his arm. A small cloak of wind chakra wrapped around the knives before he threw them through the cloth towards the necks of two of the men before quickly pulling his sword to dive through the cloth to assault the third.

Waiting for Katsu to deliver the first attack, Koike observed the motion and stances of the armoured men. Trying to find weak points and openings. Not able to discover something like chainmail, he figured that they would wear padding underneath the small steel plated vests. When the knives of Katsu punctured two of the red cloaks in the neck, confusion and surprise was visible among their ranks as the two red cloaks sinked down on the ground. As Koike expected from a more trained and readied fighters, they quickly turned to the direction the knives came from. Only spotting Koike approaching them in a rapid pace. The first and closest foe was forced to raise his small round shield to deflect Koike's strike. Only not expecting that the blue hue surrounding Koike's blade to grow brighter. Together with the intense sound of focused chakra increasing, briefly heralding the strike, the shield would crack and break. Almost like a hot knife through butter, Koike managed to slice through the shield and make the steel bite deep into the man's arm. His free hand had already grasped his own shield, as he expected a retilation from the nearby hostiles. Hopefully, drawing their attention long enough for Katsu to take more out.

As Katsu cut through the cloth of the tent, the third redcloak seemed to move for his sword but instinctively moved out of the way just as the blade pierced the air. Katsu emerged from the cut, cursing as he followed the man with a swift tap off the ground. He thrust his blade at the cloaked enemy, but his opponent seemed to be able to block the direct thrust with the side of his half-sheathed blade. Taken aback, the young nin dove his hand behind his back to pull out knives, but the man returned the attack before he could hold the knives, forcing Katsu to dodge. His body bent backwards, the young nin placed his hands on the ground and kicked off the ground, slamming his foot under the man's chin as he flipped back to put some distance between them.

The heavy vibration flow through his left arm as Koike managed to use his shield to deflect an incoming strike. Even while he had managed to cut down one foe, the remaining hostiles weren't overzealous with their offensive. This made it less easier to benefit from any mistakes and it was starting to irritate Koike. Performing a feint, he was able to create an opening but was quickly forced to raise his shield and fend off an attack from another hostile. Narrowing his eyes, he would let the same foe attempt to attack again. The respective opponent didn't shout a battlecry or seemed to go into a frenzy as he raised his axe. But as he seemed to aim for Koike's shoulder, the latter would deflect the strike with his shield as the tip of his sword aimed at the foe. The chakra that surrounded the steel shot forwards and created a disturbing sound as it punctured through the steel and padding. Detecting movement from the right, Koike would let the imbued chakra reduce itself by pouring much energy and focus into it as he turned to the impending attack.

The red cloaked man rubbed his chin, glaring at the boy in front of him. Katsu dove in again, ready to swing his sword. As his opponent prepared to counter, he swung his off hand. Thinking they were knives, the red cloaked man cut the projectiles, only for smoke to emerge from where the blade was swung. The man covered his eyes before a blade slid through the hands and head. He fell out of the smoke with Katsu's grip tight around the hilt of the sword, a confuse look plastered on his lifeless face. The boy turned to look at how Koike was doing.

Turning to the impending attack, Koike wasn't in time to dodge the slash. His attacker aimed the attack at his side but instead of hearing Koike wheeze or seeing him collapse, the attacker's eyes went wide. The moment the edge of the attacker's blade connected to the segmented plate, Koike already directed his own blade. The sharp steel edge pierced the man's neck as Koike landed a heavy blow. Blood spurted out for a second as the steel managed to cut an artery open. Giving a rough shove, Koike was about to turn once more to the side as the last remaining target was about to aim for a blow against Koike's head with an axe.

A weak gust of wind passed by the two, carrying with it two knives that found their ways into the last assailant's eye and wrist. As the man stumbled back, the axe dropped from his hand, blood spewing out violently from the cut on his wrist. Somehow still standing, he reached for a knife at his side.

For a second Koike froze as he looked at the would be attacker. Lowering his shield, that he had tried to rise for the next attack, Koike would lash out with his weapon. There was a soft cracking sound as the steel hit the man against his head, managing to slash across the protective steel of the man's helmet. The weight of the blow, however, would suffice as the force would be enough to knock the man out. Though he didn't want to take any chances, Koike decided to let the man be. "Nice throw," he grumbled as he moved his shield at his back before he started to get running.

It was certainly a big mess. Which meant that the night raid was really a success as the enemy was having trouble to organise a proper counter attack. Various times had they come across allied forces that were cleaning up a small section before joining the retreat but as Koike and Katsu were moving to the northern part of the attack, things were less productive. More pockets of hostiles were attempting to do something about the raging fire and destruction. While they hadn't come across any scenery that had seem to be stacking odds against the allied force, they were lacking in destruction compared to the center push.

Eventually, Koike thought that he could spot various times a member of the Tiger Claw, he didn't see any sign of the unit that Saki personally led. Which could be a good sign but also a less fortunate sign. Suspecting that Saki wasn't in the backrows or allowing others to risk limb and life while she cowered, Koike directed himself and Katsu further into the chaotic fold. "Kat, can you try to find Saki's signature?" Koike said in a loud voice as he still tried to spot a sign among the smoke, fighting people and burning tents and obstructions.

"I'll try." Katsu brought his hands together, looking to hone in on Saki's signature. Closing his eyes, he tried to naviagate through the countless signatures in the pool of his range. After a few long moments, his eyes flew open. "It's up ahead. We can reach her before too long."

"Lead the way," Was Koike's answer as he nodded towards Katsu. Hopefully, they would be able to reach and get Saki and her Tiger Claws out of trouble before they would get overwhelmed.
