Taishiro Kanai | Team 14 Genin | Kirigakure

Upon having been dismissed by Mika, Taishiro briefly attempted to talk to either of his teammates, wanting to get to know them a little better. However, both seemed to be busy with their own things and Taishiro gave a small sigh before heading back to where he and his father had been staying as of late, figuring it might also be a good idea to go check on him. Heading through the streets, Taishiro had pretty much memorized his way back already. It would be a little bit before he reached his destination, so the genin let his mind drift back to the mission as he walked. It had been a failure, with little to no clues being found about the dead apparently rising. Taishiro hadn't even found any evidence of a walking dead person either, making him wonder if the rumors were really anything more than just that; rumors. A small frown formed on his face as he continued to make his way through the city streets, eventually reaching his destination.

Heading inside, Taishiro gave a small wave to some of the others that lived here before heading up to his father's room. Opening the door quietly, Taishiro peeked into the room to make sure his father was awake. Seeing the sickly man's eyes closed, Taishiro nodded to himself before heading into the room. The genin set some of his gear down near the door, ensuring to remain quiet to not wake his father. Heading over to stand by the side of the bed, Taishiro took the time to check his father's forehead with the back of hand. So it seemed he wasn't running a fever, that much was good. Giving his father a small smile, the boy pulled up a chair next to the bed and took a small breath. Placing one hand on top of the other, he gathered chakra to form a small orb in his palm. Placing his hands over his father's chest, Taishiro would focus on keeping the technique going. Taishiro knew that the technique wouldn't heal his father, or fix anything. Yet, Taishiro continued to try, hoping that he would get lucky and somehow fix his father's illness.

However, he had the same amount luck as usual. No results, save for the way his father seemed to become calmer in his slumber, which at least brought a small smile to his lips. Keeping up the technique until he grew tired from the effort. Stopping his technique, the boy frowned before getting up. Looking at his sleeping father, Taishiro let out a sigh of frustration. Why couldn't the man just wake up, and have no more illness? It wasn't fair! With a small huff, Taishiro turned to head out of the room in order to find something to eat. As he opened the door to leave the room once more, he looked towards his father for a brief moment before heading out.[/fieldbox]

Amegakure Team 11 Chuunin | Akinian Empire | Amegakure

Life is always filled with surprises, for good and bad

Summary:

During a day that does not bode well with her, Kuni meets a friend who ends up sharing more bad news.

With her hoodie covering her head and her hands in her pockets, Kuni walked slowly throught the streets. She just gave the final payments to two of her now former employees, with only Sho remaining. With her gaze aimed at the ground, she couldn't help but ponder slightly to herself what would've happened if she didn't trying. But then the memory of the broken glass from when they were still putting the place back together, and now this made her stop pondering. This wasn't the time. Not yet. Clearly she still needed to either prove herself to others, or find out whoever had such a massive grudge against her.

Passing by the closed down Tea House, she stopped to look at it. People sprayed some unfitting graffiti on it now, making it appear even worse than before. She was glad she took the books out of there and put them in a safer location, at least those wouldn't be stolen or ruined by vandalism. As she stood there, she watched as people passed by, not giving the place any glances. Why would they? It looked horrible now. Uncared and unloved. She heard a pair of footsteps that stopped besides her, but she didnt turn around to see if it was anyone she knew.

"It's a shame about the place. I didn't have time to check it out, too occupied with some things, but I heard from a couple of people that it was decent, even if it was run by the Jinchuuriki." The person standing next to her said, and Kuni knew who was standing next to her. She hadn't spoken to Naoko since before she became a Jinchuuriki. Almost felt like an eternity ago. Feeling ashamed by the fact she didn't bother checking on her, especially seeing how the woman was in a coma for some time due to the Yonbi attack, Kuni didn't turn to look at her, instead bringing her left hand to her mouth and covering it before speaking "I wouldn't know." She said in a slightly muffled voice.

Naoko sighed as she patted Kuni's shoulder "You should know better than to try and pretend to be someone else with that bad attempt. I dont have any ill-feelings towards you Kuni, so mind turning around and looking at me? If you don't, I'll just keep with what I have planned for the day." She said, and the younger girl hesitated briefly. Turning around, she looked at Naoko. The black haired woman appeared like always, with her silk smooth black hair and no apparent smile. Naoko looked at Kuni briefly before speaking again "You look like an emotional mess. Want to go to the park and calm down a bit? Or just walk around?" She suggested, and Kuni shrugged "I think the park will be a bit better." She said and begun walking away, with the Jinchuuriki making sure to walk alongside her.

About fifteen minutes passed before they arrived at the park, and the two found themselves a relatively secluded spot on one of the trees, with Kuni sitting on one branch and Naoko standing on another, leaning against the trunk "So, want to tell me what you have been up to since we last talked? All I know is that you became the Jinchuuriki of the Yonbi and opened a Tea House that apparently got shut down before I could check it." She said.

Looking at Naoko, Kuni opened her mouth "I'm so-" "No ill feelings, remember? No need to apologize. It wasn't you who hurt me enough to make me fall into a coma. Now just tell me what you have been up to. I can only assume you are under a much stricter supervision." The young woman said, and Kuni nodded "I've gotten the rank of a Chuunin after passing the second Chuunin exams I've been to. Been to Konohagakure for some training under a special mentor, during the festivities. Aside from that, I can only roam around Amegakure unless I'm on a mission." She said, and Naoko listened in silence.

"I've also moved back to live with Eiji-sensei in an effort to pay for the expenses required to build up the Tea House. I managed to get a few employees and we opened several times until the post office event occured. I tried helping and don't know how much of that I did, although people did get taken out safely so maybe I did do something right. I was interrogated and put in a cell for several days, and by the time I got out, I found out there have been riots and that someone sabotaged the Tea House. Made all the furniture unstable and infected the kitchen with bugs, and I barely had time to look into it before an inspection came and shortly afterwards announced the shut down of my Tea House due to health and enviromental risks to the public. I plan on trying to request an investigation due to sabotage, but I don't know how seriously anyone will take me nowadays, so I might just try and investigate on my own as much as I can." Kuni finished speaking, and watched as Naoko moved to sit down on the branch she was on.

"Quite a lot of things. Did you get a chance to talk to Mei in recent time?" Naoko asked, her voice sounding completely neutral as always. Kuni shook her head "Ever since I became the Jinchuuriki and you were in a coma, she didn't want to see or speak to me. I tried approaching her several times, but stopped after she gave me an entire speech on how I was a threat to everyone around me." She said and looked down towards the ground, slightly leaning forward to more properly see a pair of flowers that were taking shelter from the light rain under the tree. An uncommon sight, she thought to herself.

"Kuni," Naoko briefly stopped "Mei died during the riots."

What Naoko said caught her off guard, and she felt her grip on the branch loosen up a bit "Mei died? She died?" Kuni said that in a clear voice, making sure she fully registered what Naoko said. Even if Mei didnt want to see her, it still pained her to hear that Mei died. They were still friends in her eyes. With thoughts about her deceased friend swarming her, and the memories rushing in to, Kuni didnt notice and had begun to slip off the branch. Spotting this, Naoko quickly jumped from her branch to Kuni's branch and grabbed a hold of the younger girl, which in turn made her look at Naoko with tearful eyes "I never got to reconcile with her, show her that I still considered her my friend." She said before pushing her head against Naoko's arm.

By the time Kuni calmed down, dusk had begun. Deciding to not stay in the park any longer, Naoko escorted Kuni on her way back. They remembered better times with Mei, and when they arrived at Eiji's place, Naoko reassured Kuni that even though Mei is gone, she is still there as her friend.

After Naoko departed, Kuni went inside and found the living room with pillows tossed around and even one of the chairs on its side. Knowing who was responsible, She got a smile back on her face as she decided to get to work and arrange everything back in its place before Eiji arrives back home. She wanted to make sure that at least one person would have less things to worry about.[/fieldbox]

Kenshin Hishima
Location: Wolf Country near coast
Rank: Kumogakure Genin

"Kenshin, Kenshin Hishima. Sir." He added, showing the respect he believed, the man deserved. The man's voice sounded harmless, however with a bag of the fine , tuned, generic shinobi tools, you couldn't just simply stamp him in the category. Kenshin observed him slyly, from feet to head. Slowly the Genin would adjust his stance, trying not to make it obvious, but failing, he attempted to stand like his Idol, a small grin appearing on his face, a sign that deep down, believed he figured it out.

"Do you have any tasks to assign me, sir?" He tried not to sound so eager, but it was hard not to, after all he was standing in front of his favorite , all time Shinobi. The boy had energy to spare, so he may as well use it. He stood , patiently and silently, waiting for Satoshi Jun to reply.

Team 13 Sp. Jounin | On the Beach

It seemed Yumeji was also not a talker. As she also seemed closed off, just like Kaya. Midori struggled to keep a sigh in. She didn't remember these kinds of people when she just joined the Academy or when she joined her first team. Everyone had seemed excited then, wide-eyed and ready to go out into the world. There had been laughter and jokes and weird goofy moments. Now, not so much. Yumeji seemed stiff and professional, which honestly could be considered good in this circumstance, but Midori wished they could just... get along or something. She was barely older than this girl, they should honestly just be friends instead of sensei and student.

Yet despite their differences, the team did respond to Midori's statement that they had to pack and that they had to do it now. Midori gave a last look at Reyna, who stated that she wished to speak later and nodded. Somehow she had already figured that that would be the case. Reyna didn't seem the type to just discuss things before everyone. They shared a strange connection, she and Reyna. Both Jinchuuriki. Both a bit different from the world. Not to mention Midori had actually talked to the beast that dwelled within the stomach of her friend. Not a pleasant experience, and yet one she wanted to talk about with Reyna. The beast, the Sanbi, didn't seem nice. Sure, Gyuki hadn't been nice either in the beginning but at least he had felt sane. With this monster, she wasn't so sure and that frightened her. Not for herself necessarily. Strangely enough, despite the strained relationship with her own Tailed Beast, she found herself being pretty confident of her own abilities might she have to fight an enraged Reyna consumed by her beast. No, she was frightened for Reyna and yet had no way to solve her problem.

Within the given amount of time, the team met up with Midori again. She herself had made sure to pack some stuff in a small backpack, but besides that she looked pretty much the same. She didn't use fancy weapons, having always relied on taijutsu and lately ninjutsu as well, nor did she wear any fancy armor. That was why she found herself looking at Yumeji, who joined in chainmail and with a shield on her back. Midori wondered how much the girl must have practiced with that stuff on before she could run silently through the forest and fields. Probably a lot.

When everyone was gathered Midori gave them a quick nod and set off. First through the camp, quickly to avoid most eyes and any other attention that people usually gave her when she walked about. Then, finally free from people, towards the beach. It was a short trip through a light foresty area. If they ran at a decent pace they should be at their destination shortly, but Midori didn't want to take risks. Everytime she had done anything with this team it had gone wrong. That was not all her fault, and yet in a sense it was because it was her responsibility.

"When we reach the beach, do not leave the tree line yet. We will try to be as quiet as possible." Her eyes went to Yumeji once more, but she didn't say anything. "We do not know who left that body there so it might be a trap or something. We will take our time an asses the situation before going to grab the thing we need to get." It seemed easier to talk about it like that then to say 'the body.' Body sounded dead, sounded almost morbid. This was just a mission to fetch an item, that was much easier to understand.

It wouldn't take long for them to reach the beach front and Midori slowed down before coming to a halt at the edge of the beach where she allowed herself and her teammembers a pause as she looked around. The beach looked normal enough, except for the dead body almost in the middle of it. The sea seemed empty. The beach mostly clear of anything. It was calm and quiet. The rushing of the waves the only sound that really reached her ears. Midori gave the others a look, her eyes asking without words if they thought they heard anything else.

Satoshi Jun,

Jounin | Kumogakure Team 3 |Wolf country, near the coast | Commander of the host, at the camp.

Kenshin Hishima, Satoshi repeated in his mind as he nodded. The genin seemed to be eager to do something, which wasn't a strange sight. Certainly, in this setting, it seemed that the young were more than willing to prove that they were capable and worthy to stand among the veterans. It would have brought up a smile across Satoshi's lips but instead, he wanted to state that he hadn't a task ready for a genin. There were a lot of matters that could be dealt with. But the problem was that he couldn't entrust any genin, no matter how eager or capable they were, to them.

Just as Satoshi's lips parted to reply back to the question of Kenshin, the man's attention was drawn to a soldier who came running towards Satoshi. Judging by his look, the man had something important to report as sweat dripped off from his face and he could barely keep himself standing up straight. Gesturing to one of his guards to give the man some water, Satoshi hooked a thumb behind his belt. The soldier was given a flask filled with water, able to catch his breath. Before bringing his report, the soldier would salute towards Satoshi. Bringing out that a fleet had been spotted at the beach, sailing with Akinian flags, Satoshi's expression shifted. He would thank the soldier quickly, dismissing him afterwards. Turning around, he pointed at a few of his guard, instructing them to take a unit to head to the location and provide some guidance for the Akinian forces to know where they had to go. Without any questions further asked back the appointed guards hurried away. Satoshi briefly considered what more had to be done with this new development. It only occurred to him that the genin of before, Kenshin, was still there.

"Seems I have a task now," he told Kenshin turning around to the genin, "I want you to report to any leading officer that the Akinians will soon be here. I want everything to be done as instructed at the last meeting. Make sure that you try to inform as many as possible," the commander instructed. He would turn to walk away as he would start to dish out more orders.

[fieldbox=Imperial advancement]
Akinian Forces, under the command of Hayate Hyuzu.

Almost twenty thousands troops strong. Many ships crashed through the waves, as they had done for days. Though no trouble had occurred during the voyage, many were looking forward to having some solid ground underneath their feet. Certainly the leading officers and captains, who were barraged at the begin of the message that troops had gotten sea sick. Thanks to the preparations that had been made, this wouldn't be a big problem, but it was still a nuisance for some. Eventually, the big fleet that had left from the Sea keep would reach the coast of the Wolf country. It didn't take long afterwards before the Tiger Claws would be deployed first on the land, serving as scouts to see if there wouldn't be any hostile force that could oppose the landing of the imperial troops.

When the report came back the command was given to disembark the troops, supplies and mounts. It wasn't that easy as there wasn't any port nearby where this could unfold. Many times boats had to go back and forth to bring troops, supplies and mounts to the shore. Those who were on the shore had the task to secure the perimeter and arrange the supplies in the waggons. Nothing truly exciting, but it would take a long time. Even as they had arrived in the early morning, they weren't done by the start of the afternoon. Continuing on, a report would be brought to the commanding officers of the imperial force that a scouting party from the Lightning country welcomed them. Some words were exchanged before the scouts would hurry back to their own camp as the Akinians continued their dull work. By the time that a group of Lightning troops came back the progress of the Akinian forces was nearly done but even as the force started to move, it would be slow. A detachment was sent ahead to lay the foundations of the Akinian camp, that was to positioned near that of the existing camps of the Republic and Lightning country's forces.

By the time that the message of Satoshi was spread through the camp of the Lightning force, the Akinian detachment started to work on their camp. In a strict and ordered fashion, the imperial troops started to work to erect a wooden wall as some others started to dig what seemed to be a trench. Small pocket groups of the Tiger Claws would be sent out to scan and scout the perimeter. By the late afternoon, the entire force of the Akinian empire arrived and would divide into tasks.

But they wouldn't be the only ones to approach the site.

[fieldbox=Republic forces on the march]
Reinforcements from the south.

A dozen of horns would resonate through the air, causing many heads to turn to the direction. Marching in columns, a force would approach from the south. Various envoys were sent forwards to the camps, showing the banner of the Republic proudly. Thousands of hardened soils of leather boots stamped on the ground, heading towards the smaller camp under the command of Yuuki Narukami (Kiro Oda). The new reinforcements were ten thousand troops strong, entering the camp of Narukami.

[fieldbox=Thoughts, teal]
Zakito Hon,

Jounin Commander | Major General of the First Division | Akinian Empire, Jounin Commander's office.

Leaning back in his seat Zakito read the report. It had been a slight mistake on their part but the man doubted that anybody would really mind it. Three brigades were a total of 18.750 troops. 'Somewhat' more than the 15.000 troops that he and others had been talking about. Just showed that even while he was responsible for the reformations that the Akinian military underwent, was something even he needed to adjust to. Not that he could do much about it now. The force had been dispatched and it would just cause more damage than anything else if he would recall around three thousand troops back. A soft chuckle escaped him as he would place the report down. Perhaps it was good that they had ended up with more troops. If the Zealots indeed came from the east, then it would serve as a nice surprise to be greeted by almost four thousand more eager Imperial troops at their doorstep.

The idea of taking it this afternoon easy crept up in his mind. Which wasn't possible seeing that he would need to take up on Hisoka and Meisa's tasks. Not that they had asked him for it but so didn't he ask them to leave for their 'quest'. Besides, he just kept telling himself that entrusting everything now on Kiyomi wouldn't work either way. Getting up from his seat Zakito would sort some of his papers before taking his leave. Leaving his office, the thought came up to try to still stop Hisoka and Meisa. He knew that he had the means to try to hold them in the city. The only question was how long he would be able to do so. That and it would just cause the current distance between him and Hisoka to grow.

Another sigh escaped Zakito as he headed towards the Royal Palace.

Yumeji Hojo,
Chuunin and Vanguard member, Team 13 of Kumogakure
On the move, to the beach!

A brief glance at the other members of the team it became apparent that she was still geared quite 'heavily' compared to the others. Scratching her left cheek with her left hand, Yumeji wasn't sure what to say. It was a bit too late to now requesting more time. That and Yumeji rather wanted to be protected a bit better than to be able to sneak around. She wasn't in any way capable of being a moving shadow as some other shinobi. No, she had 'enjoyed' a training regime where she had to face opponents in straight combat and coming out of it.
Following the group, Yumeji had taken the position at the rear. Not just because she felt like it, but her chainmail didn't really make her that silent. While it wouldn't alert the entire population in the Wolf country, it wasn't in any sense going to help if she would be near the front.
During her time at the back of the formation, it also allowed her to try to observe the dynamic between the team. While she wasn't super excited to do this assignment, there was a certain curiosity. There were enough rumours that Yumeji had, after all, heard about Midori. The Saviour of Kumogakure. The tamer of the Eight Tails. Nice and impressive titles but Yumeji wasn't able to convince herself of believing them right away. How could somebody that didn't seem imposing handle a bijuu? Looks could be deceiving but really, a bijuu? How had she managed that?
Focusing back, Yumeji shoved the thoughts that roamed freely at first in her mind to the back. Her left hand grasped and held the strap of her shield in a firm grip while she tried to be on her guard. As Yumeji noticed a shift in the pace she would adjust herself to it.
Midori spoke up. Taking a calm posture and expression, Yumeji listened to the specialised jounin. Even managing to notice Midori looking at her. Due to not knowing Midori well, enough Yumeji couldn't conclude if the former was talking about the chainmail when she mentioned that they had to be silent. A brief moment the chuunin felt some regret but reminded herself of what had ambushed her last time.

Nodding to silent signal that she understood Midori words Yumeji wouldn't bother with asking questions. Her whole focus was on their task ahead, even though it didn't really make her feel eager. Why would they need to bring in a corpse? She was aware that some people could extract certain information from the dead, but that didn't make her stomach twist by a bit. Hopefully, this time they wouldn't face an ambush.
Getting to the beach Yumeji would halt as Midori did so too. Turning half around to be on guard for anything at their flanks Yumeji wouldn't be able to spot anything. An idea came up to make use of the pause to deploy one of her techniques. Turning half around, Yumeji would speak up. Though she kept the volume of her voice toned down, just audible enough for the rest of the team.

"Ma'am, if you want I can deploy a technique. I can scan the area around us, but nothing too major," the chuunin brought up, already forming the seal with just one hand. Yet she would wait with moulding her chakra and use the technique for Midori's approval.

[fieldbox=I will go, lightsalmon]
Kaya Irozaki

| Genin | Kumogakure Team 13 | Near the beach, Wolf country.|

Leaving the camp Kaya felt both relieved as a bit worried. While she kept following Midori and made sure to remain vigilant, questions started to trouble her mind. Crossing the terrain towards their destination, Kaya threw a sideways glance towards Reyna. Remembering how the other had turned into something that was the stuff of Kaya's nightmares, the latter wondered about something. Driving the thoughts and questions in her mind away, to avoid tripping or colliding with somebody or something, Kaya wondered why Midori didn't pick up a faster pace. It wasn't that it was bothering her, but it made her wonder what was behind that decision.
Concluding in silence, Kaya decided that it was quite unlikely that the target of the mission wouldn't really move and that there was thus no need to hasten. Unless she was wrong about corpses moving on their own.

When the group halted Kaya's left hand lowered, towards one of her trench knives. Listening to what Midori told them, Kaya just nodded. Seemed quite an easy task. Move in and grab 'the thing', such as Midori phrased it. Another glance was thrown towards Reyna. For a moment Kaya wanted to utilise the moment to do something as a simple fist bump against Reyna's shoulder. Just to serve as a small reminder that she would watch her back. But it wouldn't be anything but a thought in Kaya's mind.

Arriving at the beach Kaya already gripped one of her trench knives in her right hand. Trying to remain low and as silent, as she could, her eyes scanned the area. It seemed, so far she could detect, that there was nobody around. Neither could she really hear or even smell something that alarmed her. Remaining silent, Kaya could hear what Yumeji said. So the Hojo was a sensor? That was quite useful. Realising only now something. What could she do? All her abilities were aimed to just try to fight an opponent. One that she could see and was in front of her. Biting her lower lip Kaya tried to just remain focused. Staring at the corpse, Kaya decided to speak up in a soft voice.

"I will go and get the body then," the sentence spoken with a determined tone. Or perhaps anxious? Not too sure of herself, Kaya wanted to already move up and just drag the body back. Yet, she remained still to hear what Midori would allow her.

Kiyomi Homura I,
Akinian Empress | Konohagakure, Royal Palace.

It was getting tiresome. Turning another page the jade coloured eyes of Kiyomi couldn't find anything that proved to be another detail or pointer towards figuring out where 'Calarien ' had come from. That was, at least, if it was even called 'Calarien'. The unknown language that Matatabi helped her to understand ever since she had encountered it on their last travel was something that could keep her stuck in books and thoughts for hours. And slowly but surely it was paying off. She started to learn how to speak, read and write it. The only problem was that it wouldn't provide a means to figure out where it had come from. Who had used it and why nobody seemed to use it anymore. The idea that people who used this kind of language just vanishing in all of a sudden were something Kiyomi found unlikely. Certainly, if she had to judge the possibility of the design of the place she had explored. Yet even with Matatabi's help, Kiyomi couldn't get the answer. Something that frustrated her to no end as well keeping her curious.

A thought came up as she closed the book and released a soft sigh. If Matatabi knew of this 'Calarien' then it meant that the other Bijuu were aware of it. Considering that they had 'access' to the Nine and Four tails, Kiyomi wondered if she could get those two to speak. Learning what they would be willing to share about what they knew of 'Calarian'. Else, she had methods to make them talk. A bit annoyed, though, Kiyomi would rise up and start putting the books back. Afterwards, she would exit the library and walk through the halls of the palace.
With the feast of last time over it seemed more tranquil to walk through the royal complex. Passing a window that provided a view of the yard what the Sworn Swords used for training exercises, Kiyomi came to a slow halt. Looking out of the window she saw how members of the royal guard trained. It made her consider to go out and join them. Remembering what she had to made the teen continue her walk. Heading towards the Council Room, Kiyomi wondered how Hayate and the others were doing. The thought of heading to an unknown continent. Exploring it and thus facing a potential adventure made her feel a bit eager to see if she couldn't create a possibility of heading there herself.
Approaching the door of the Council room, that was guarded by four Sworn Swords, Kiyomi smiled faintly. While she knew that the higher ups wouldn't accept her leaving the Empire, let alone go to the eastern continent, the idea of heading to the distant shore seemed like a dream. With the door being opened by one of the Sworn Sword, Kiyomi voiced thanks to the man as he would close the door once she entered the room.

Stepping towards the painted table, Kiyomi would slide her fingers against the edge of the table. Pushing the previous thoughts away to the back of her mind, she would focus on what she would discuss soon with Zakito. The Intelligence Division had been quite busy, with thanks, to the newest 'residents' brought to them. Briefly, Kensuke crossed Kiyomi's mind as she was aware that Ezuri Hyuuga was one of the new 'residents' in the care of the Intelligence Division. How that guy even had the nerve to work with the Zealots sickened Kiyomi. The Hyuuga could count himself lucky that she was both too busy and respected Kensuke too much from paying him a 'visit', to get some sense of revenge on the Zealots.

Leaning on the edge of the painted table, looking at the detailed shape of the known world carved and illustrated in the table. Seeing Zakito hadn't arrived, Kiyomi allowed herself to think of more merrier things. Her gaze travelled to the eastern continent represented on the table. As her eyes half closed, she wondered if there wasn't still a chance that she could pull him back home.

Flashback!

At the feast,
A collab made between Chromehound and Aliceee.

Summary :
Hayate makes himself ready to head towards the feast. But he isn't going alone! Accompanied by Mimi, Jora and Elena they head towards the Royal Palace. Soon enough they all are being forced to deal with intrigue and secrets.

[spoili]
It was most certainly not easy. Frowning she tried to get it right. The dress she had gotten as a gift was nice and it fitted her. How couldn't it, though? But now she had a problem. The dark blue dress was something she had managed to get on in a minute. The belt was a bit annoying, but she had managed. Now it was just the shoe laces that were an obstacle. It wasn't often that she wore boots or footwear that had laces, causing the small girl now to frown and trying to tie her shoelaces. After various attempts, she felt like just putting them off and throwing them at the wall. But much like the dress and belt, they were a gift. And Mimi did want to look nice for Kiyomi. How long had it been since she had been together with both with Kiyomi and Hayate? The question was something she didn't have an answer on, which just further fueled her frustration. Huffing and puffing the small girl would hop off her bed. Exiting her room the hallway was empty and there was a silence present in the complex. Not very surprising as everybody was probably heading to the feast. Or was it a party? Mimi would walk down the hallway and find with ease her way in the halls that enjoyed a faint light from the few candles.

Finding Hayate's room Mimi wouldn't bother knocking on the door. She never bothered so why would she start bothering today and now with knocking on the door? Frowning she would push the door open after pulling the handle down. "Mimi doesn't like shoelaces," the girl proclaimed with a tone that made it clear she was anything but pleased. Pointing at them she kept her gaze focused on Hayate. "Can I go without them?"

Glancing at the shirt that lay on his bed, Hayate sighed. It had been given to him by Jora, a gift that he knew his brother would give him trouble for if he didn't wear it. But it looked so... stuffy. It was a dress shirt, made in the style of Hyuzu formal wear, all dark metallic greys with accents of black. The Guardian insignia was sewn in to one shoulder, the Hyuzu clan symbol sewn to the other. On the front, Hayate's rank insignia was sewn just below his left collarbone. It was a nice shirt, he could not argue that, but it was far more formal than what he would usually wear. Grumbling, Hayate took off his own shirt and tossed it onto the bed. Picking up the dress shirt, he tried to slip it over his head, not bothering to undo the buttons.

As he had it halfway on, his head stuck behind the fabric, Hayate heard the sound of the door opening. Cursing inwardly, he tried to pull the shirt down the rest of the way, fumbling slightly in his embarrassment. Upon hearing Mimi's voice, however, Hayate relaxed and the shirt slid the rest of the way down. "Nearly gave me a heart attack Mimi..." he muttered, looking to see what she was talking about. Folding his arms across his chest, Hayate tilted his head to the side. A smile broke out over his face and he chuckled. "If I have to wear this, Mimi, then you have to wear those shoes. Besides, you look very beautiful. Everyone at the feast is going to be jealous."

"But shoelaces. Problem. Big! Mimi doesn't like it!" The girl proclaimed as she raised her right foot, only to stamp it down on the floor again. "And they have to. Mimi is the queen of the festival... something! But shoelaces! Problem!" Mimi stated once more, stamping on the ground with her right foot. Her frown started to shift into a glare as she pointed at the shoelaces. "I want to wear other shoes, now! Please? Now!"

Rolling up his sleeves, Hayate couldn't help but smile at Mimi's outburst. "Come here," he said, gesturing for her to come into the room. Kneeling, Hayate took one of her shoes and chuckled again, shaking his head. "Let me help you with them, okay?" Carefully, he undid the knots that Mimi had managed to create through her... strange attempt at tying the laces. Once he had straightened them out, he began tying. When he had finished, Hayate stood up and rolled his sleeves down, buttoning them up and trying to smoothen out the creases. "There! Now you look like a proper Queen."

Looking down the girl briefly kept glaring at the shoelaces. They seemed all fine and dandy now. "But what if I want them off?" She asked, frowning down at her shoes. Lifting her left foot a bit up she seemed to grow more displeased with each passing second, before suddenly deciding that it was fine. "Mimi is ready. Come, can't let others wait. What if they already are?" Frowning again the child started to become visibly worried. Turning already towards the door Mimi would pick up a quick pace before realising that she was forgetting something. "Aren't you ready yet? Mimi doesn't like waiting! Come on!"

"If you want them off later, you need but ask and I will help you. But! You must keep them on throughout the feast okay? Or else there won't be any dancing for you." Grinning as the girl

The 'demand' was outrageous! Keeping these shoes on for an entire feast? How long did a feast even last? Her brief anger and resent towards the shoelaces were quickly replaced by confusion. "Wait, wait, wait!" Eyeing Hayate she rested her gaze on the jacket. Pointing at it, she shook her head firmly. "No! No jacket! Mimi has to wear this, so Silly Face has to leave the jacket. Else, no feast!"

Glancing down, Hayate paused, momentarily confused. "But it's my jacket... Why would I leave it here?"

"Mimi has to wear something else then Silly Face has to wear something else," she replied without missing a beat after Hayate's question, "Rules are rules!"

Grumbling, Hayate sighed. "Fine, fine." Removing the jacket, Hayate placed it on the bed. "Just cleaned it too..." he muttered under his breath. Walking over to Mimi once more, he offered her his hand once more. "Now, unless there is anything else, shall we?"

Glancing at the offered hand, Mimi would look up with narrowed eyes as she pondered on something. A grin appeared for a moment as she took the accepted hand and shook her head lightly. "No! Mimi wants to go, now! Come on!" Picking up a quick walking pace she started to almost pull Hayate to exit Azumi. Already starting to talk about how she would become the queen of the festival and the feast, on how she would never wear these shoes and more.

~Some time later~

Standing with his arms folded across his chest, Jora yawned, his eyes closing. A swift punch to his shoulder startled him and his eyes snapped open. Looking to his assailant and rubbing his shoulder with a wounded look on his face, Jora frowned. "What was that for?"

"You bloody well know why." Elena muttered, punching him again.

"Ow!" Jorra laughed, moving out of reach in case she felt like punching him for a third time. "I'm just tired from waiting for so long, that's all. Thought he'd be here by now."

"Oh shush," Elena said, trying to hide her smile. "We haven't been waiting long at all. And besides, your brother has a lot to take care of. He'll be leaving soon so give him a break." Making a show of rolling his eyes, Jora sighed dramatically. "Fiiiiiine. I'll cut him some slack... This time." Turning to hide his grin, Jora noticed two figures approaching in the distance. "Here comes trouble," he said, smiling. Raising one hand to wave them over, Jora folded his arms across his chest. "He actually wore it."

Moving to stand beside Jora, Elena looked out at Hayate and Mimi. Noticing the shirt that Jora had gotten him, she smiled. "I'm just surprised he isn't wearing that jacket of his. As long as I've known him he wears that thing everywhere."

Chuckling, Jora glanced over to her. "Only time it gets cleaned is when he showers with it." Elena quickly covered her mouth, stifling a laugh. "Besides, I think it might just have something to do with that cute little troublemaker he's got with him. Clearly Mimi has the better fashion sense of the two." As he finished, Hayate and Mimi walked up.

Bending down on one knee, Jora smiled at the little girl, "Well heya there kiddo! Good to see you again." Glancing up at Hayate, Jora's smile turned into a grin and his tone changed to a teasing one. "Was he taking forever to get ready again?"

Smiling warmly at the two newcomers, Elena embraced Hayate in a hug before turning to the little girl that accompanied him. "Hello Mimi, you look lovely, as always."

A wide smile would start to cover the lips of the girl as she and Hayate approached Jora and Elena. Nodding back as she clearly agreed that it was great that she met Hayate's brother again, the girl tried to look as mature and serious as she could - which just wouldn't work with her voice and features. "Yes and he wanted to take that jacket with him. Mimi told him that he wasn't. Mimi has to wear these shoes, then silly face isn't allowed to wear his jacket!" Turning to Elena, Mimi nodded a few times. "Thanks! Except the shoes. Mimi-- I don't like the shoes! You beautiful as well. Even your shoes."

Grumbling as Jora spoke with Mimi, Hayate tried to hide his smile. Accepting Elena's hug, Hayate turned to face the others, folding his arms across his chest and tilting his head to the side. As Mimi tattled on him, Hayate groaned again. "I was just going to wear it in case it got cold..." he muttered to no one in particular.

Jora glanced up at him with a grin. "Suuuuure baby brother." Turning back to Mimi, Jora winked. "Between you and me, I think that jacket is just his comfort blanket," he whispered to the little girl, chuckling.

Elena beamed as Mimi called her beautiful. The little girl was always a blast to have around. "Well thank you Mimi, you are as kind as you are pretty. I am glad Hayate has you around to remind him that he does not always need that jacket." Winking at Hayate, Elena turned back to Mimi and leaned down. "Trust me, those shoes may not be comfortable at first, but you'll get used to them and you'll be a star on the dance floor!"

Standing back up, Jora linked arms with Elena. Glancing at his wife with a smile he nodded. "Well, shall we?"

A big smile crept on Mimi's lips. She nodded as Jora said that the jacket was Hayate's comfort blanket. It wasn't of a surprise to her. Everybody had such a thing. Not that she would say what was hers. It was a super S ranked secret, after all, for a good reason. As Elena complimented Mimi, the latter lowered her head by a bit and snickered. "Thanks," she replied at first, "I guess. Still silly." With Jora suggesting that they should be going, Mimi turned to Hayate and raised a hand towards him.

Keeping his arms crossed for a moment, Hayate raised an eyebrow before smiling and reaching down to take Mimi's hand. "After you, your highness." Heading to the entrance, Hayate glanced over towards Jora and Elena, happy that they were both here. Hayate had never been the biggest fan of large functions or crowds. With Jora and Elena here, it gave him someone to talk to until he could find Kiyomi. Well... he always had Mimi as well, but the little troublemaker often wanted to run off and meet people to tell them she was the real Queen of the Festival. Looking down towards Mimi as they entered the palace, Hayate wondered how she would be today. "What would you like to do first MImi?"

The question didn't take very long to be answered. "Mimi first want to see what kind of snacks they have. Then drinks. Then more snacks and then..." the little girl frowned as she pondered on what more. "Taking shoes off, that sounds good. Then we find Ki-Yomi and get more snacks. And drinks," was the complete answer. A satisfied smile was present on Mimi's lips as if she was certain that nobody else could have come up with such a great plan as she just had.

Inwardly, Hayate groaned, but the boy could not help but smile at Mimi's enthusiasm. He just hoped that her eyes were bigger than her stomach or else they would be spending the vast majority of the night near the snacks. "And what about dancing, hmm? Doesn't Mimi want to dance?"

Hearing Hayate and Mimi, Jora and Elena chuckled. Mimi certainly had some interesting priorities. "I like the way she thinks," Jora whispered to Elena, causing his wife to giggle before regaining her composure.

"Bah! Bah! Bah!" Was Mimi's first reply to the question. "Mimi doesn't want to dance in these shoes. Besides, I already know that I am the best. I can dance, so that is a fact," the girl stated with as much confidence as she could muster into her phrasing. It wouldn't take much experience to see the doubt the girl had in that she would have to dance this evening. "Besides, snacks!" Mimi added, as if that was enough to argue against everything.

"The girl has a point Hayate," Jora said, grinning at his brother, receiving a vicious glare in return. Chuckling, Jora shrugged and looked down at Mimi. "What is your favourite snack Mimi? I'll make sure the kitchen keeps them coming!" Elena dug an elbow into his side and Jora yelped, quickly adjusting his collar and pretending nothing had happened.

A smile formed on Hayate's face and he shook his head. They made their way into the palace and Hayate looked around, scanning the faces to see if he could find anyone he knew. A part of him hoped he'd see Kiyomi right away, but he knew she was likely further in, probably surrounded by a fairly large retinue.

"Strawberry cakes with whipped cream!" The answer didn't even miss a beat after the question was asked. "Are you going to make them get me some? Are you? Are you really?" Mimi asked Jora, a glint in her eyes becoming appearant. "Mimi loves those! Silly Face usually doesn't allow me to eat two, three or five every day. Says that it isn't healthy, but it has strawberries so it has to be healthy!"

Covering his face with his free hand, Hayate groaned. Once you got Mimi going it was nearly impossible to bring her back down to earth...

Elena turned to Jora, raising an eyebrow. "Now look what you've done," she whispered, trying to mask the amusement in her voice. Shrugging, Jora's eyes still held a mischeivous glint. "Of course I will Mimi! But, you have to promise me at least one dance before you take those shoes off. I haven't gotten to dance with you in a long time!" Looking over at Hayate, Jora noticed his reaction and grinned. "And don't worry about Hayate, he's just a cranky pants. I will make sure you can have as many strawberry cakes as you'd like! After all, you are correct. They have strawberries, that means they are nutritious!" Elena tried to glare at him, but it was broken by the fact that she was trying, and failing, not to smile.

"Great! I want five! No, seven! Wait, what is more than twenty?" The girl rambled only to halt as Jora made it clear she had to dance. Already the lips of the girl parted to protest and argue against it. That it wasn't fair and she deserved as much as strawberry cakes as she could get her hands on. Pouting she threw a look at Hayate before looking back at Jora. "Mimi will do one dance," she said with raising her free hand, putting up her index finger, "But you promise that you will get me my straweberries cakes?"

Smiling back at Mimi, Jora nodded before reaching out with his own hand. "Promised." he said, holding out his pinky. "But to make certain that we both keep our promises, it would be best for us to pinky swear. A pinky swear cannot be broken after all."

Seeing the pinky of Jora being extended towards her the facial expression of Mimi shifted into a more serious one. She was aware that pinky promises were quite important. Something as sacred even. Extending her hand and stretching out her pinky she would nod while making the pinky promise. "Good. One dance! Just one!" Mimi said as she seemed, however, slight wary that she would be tricked to do more than just one time dancing.

As they made the pinky promise, Jora nodded his head, his expression serious. "Good. Now..." slowly, he shifted into a grin as he stood to his full height once more. "About those snacks!" Elena shook her head, laughing and Hayate chuckled as well.

The four of them made their way into the main hall, Jora stopping a server on the way past and whispering into his ear, pointing towards Mimi. The server nodded and made his way back to the kitchen. "There!" Jora exclaimed, beaming. "Now we shall have the treats brought to us."

"Yes! Snacks!" Mimi snickered as she already start to look around her to try to catch sight of place or people that could provide them with snacks. Noticing that Jora spoke with a person made Mimi stare at the two for a moment. When the Hyuzu said that they would have their treats brought to them the girl gasped as her eyes widened. That would happen? How cool was that? They wouldn't have to try to find them, but people would bring them strawberry cakes! Squeezing softly in Hayate's hand, Mimi's lower lip trembled. "Mimi hasn't ever been happier."

Looking down at Mimi as she squeezed his hand, Hayate smiled warmly. "You are adorable Mimi." As they walked, Hayate wondered whether or not they were going to have to move to a specific area. Mimi clearly wanted to devote most of her time to snacks, but the young Hyuzu wanted to spend some time with Kiyomi. After all, he did not have much time left before he would be sent out. Giving Mimi's hand a gentle squeeze in return, Hayate gestured with his head. "Come on, let's go see if we can find Kiyomi. They will be bringing us the food now apparently." Glancing over at Jora, he saw his brother nod, still grinning.

"Oh, yeah!" Flashing a smile to Jora and Elena, Mimi would start to walk. There were a lot of people, but she was confident that she wasn't out of place. The girl was even convinced that the majority were here just to snack and drink. It was a party, after all, and that was what people did on parties. If she wasn't mistaken, which she was rarely. As they walked Mimi couldn't help but be distracted every three or four seconds. There was the big band that was playing the music, the interesting people who wore different clothing or had some interesting motives on them, the food that was being brought around on plates by servants and then not to mention the alluring scent. "Mimi doesn't see Ki-Yomi. Is she even here?" The little girl wondered out loud as she threw a look around, a disappointed expression flowing over her features.

"Hmm," Hayate said after they had been walking for a short time. He had not yet seen her either. Frowning slightly for a moment, Hayate looked down at Mimi, a twinkle in his eye. "How about we get you a better vantage point hmm?" Picking the girl up, Hayate put her over his shoulders in a piggy back so that she could see above the crowd.

Seeing what his brother did, Jora turned to Elena, raising an eyebrow. "What do you say honey? Would you like a better view as well?" Glaring at Jora, Elena's eyes narrowed. "Try it and die." She threatened. Turning to the side, her tone became to a teasing one. "Besides, only way I can get a better view is if you leave."

Being lifted up Mimi grinned as she narrowed her eyes. Trying to spot Kiyomi, she was about to say that she couldn't find her. "There, found her!" Mimi said, pointing over to the direction where she saw Kiyomi. "Ki-Yomi is talking with... two men. But she is there!" Patting Hayate's head she urged him to head over to the direction. "Maybe we can share a strawberry cake with Ki-Yomi! Or two! Perhaps four. But not more than six! Cause that is too much. Can't give out too much strawberry cakes!"

Laughing, Hayate began heading off in the direction that Mimi had pointed. He felt his spirits lifting, hoping that Kiyomi would not be too busy. Jora and Elena followed along closely, continuing their playful bickering in the background.

As Hayate parted through the crowd, finally spotting Kiyomi, a large smile touched his face and he quickened his pace. Stopping, Hayate spoke. "Hello your highness." Bowing, Hayate forgot that he had Mimi on his shoulders and had to quickly adjust so that he didn't throw the girl off.

Speaking indeed with two men, Kiyomi had already noticed Mimi and Hayate. Rounding the conversation to an end the two men made a small bow as Kiyomi flashed a smile towards the two. Turning around a soft smile would spread on her lips as her hands would be placed on her hips. Spotting Jora and Elena also approaching, Kiyomi would shift her attention to Hayate. Her right eyebrow perked up slightly. "Huh, odd. Had expected you to wear that jacket," she said, sounding slightly confused. Mimi was quick to answer on that, grinning as she pointed to herself.

"Silly Face wanted at first, but I stopped him. He was a biiiiiit stubborn about it, but I managed," The small girl exlaimed, "But how are you Ki-Yomi? Also, also, we are going to get strawberry cakes soon! Really! I have to dance once, but we are going to get them. You can four. Or six! But not more than six, cause Silly Face says that eating too much is too bad. But it has strawberries so I think he just doesn't like strawberries that much as I do."

Grumbling again as everyone seemed to be ganging up on him, Hayate shuffled. "It isn't the strawberries Mimi, it is all the sugar in the cake and whipped cream. That's why it isn't good." Looking up at Kiyomi, a smile touched his face and he shrugged, causing Mimi to shift once more on his back.

Jora and Elena approached and bowed. "It is good to see you again, Your Grace." Jora said before gesturing towards Elena. "This is my wife, Elena." Bowing again and offering a warm smile, Elena spoke. "I have heard many good things. It is lovely to meet you Empress Homura."

"Mimi finds that weird! How is that not healthy?!" The little girl argued back, frowning at Hayate. Kiyomi just threw an amused glance at the two, though she would shift her attention to Jora and Elena. Returning a small bow to the two, she would reply back. "Good to see you as well, Lord Hyuzu. And it is a pleasure to meet you. Was hoping to meet you sooner or later," the teen stated to Elena, "Am glad that you heard good things about me. Hope it isn't too many silly tales. Though, I have heard good things of you as well. Glad to meet you. Good to know that the person who keeps tabs on Lord Hyuzu is around on a feast."

Mimi shifted her attention back and forth between the present people, but seemed to be on the lookout for something. Growing slightly frustrated she would shuffle towards Jora and pull at his right arm. "Where are the strawberry cakes?" She whispered, still on the lookout for her favorite treat.

Sighing in response to Mimi, Hayate shook his head, hiding the smile on his face. He could not argue with the girl.

Elena chuckled and nodded. "I assure you that there weren't too many silly tales. Somebody has to keep tabs on him after all. If not, he'd probably try and eat everything in the place." Jora let out a dramatic sigh, "What is this? Pick on Jora day?"

When Mimi came up to him, he leaned over to listen to her question. Glancing around conspiratorially, Jora raised an eyebrow. "Perhaps someone is trying to steal them!" he whispered, "We must investigate!"

The small girl noticed that no reply came back and took it as a sign that she had 'won' the discussion. A smile crept back on her thin lips as she would resume to be on the lookout for any servant that would bring strawberry cakes towards them. Kiyomi couldn't help but smile upon hearing what Jora and Elena say. "I guess it is a bad habit that runs in the family. Glad that there weren't too many silly tales," her gaze briefly moving towards Hayate, "I hope that Konoha is to your liking. From what I understood is that you haven't had much time to lately visit it."

Mimi looked at Jora as he brought up that somebody could very well be stealing her favorite dessert. Her eyes already narrowed by the thought as her hands would ball into fists. The mere thought that somebody would deny her promised dessert made the girl more than determiment enough to face everybody that dared to stop her from enjoying strawberry cakes. Whispering back as Mimi realised that Hayate would likely be keen on stopping her, she would whisper back to Jora, "Mimi wants to investigate. But we must be very sneaky!"

As Kiyomi mentioned it running in the family, Elena let out a laugh. "More than you know. I can never get them together for dinner because I'm afraid we won't have enough food in the house!" Laughing again, Elena noticed Jora and Mimi conspiring together. Glancing back at Kiyomi, she nodded. "It is quite lovely. I have been stuck for a long time in the compound, work and everything else keep me very busy, so this opporunity was not one I could pass up. Thank you for allowing us to come."

Hayate could hear Jora and Mimi whispering and he chuckled. He had a bit of faith in Jora, but the two of them together...? It spelled trouble. Leaning in again, Jora grinned at Mimi. "You and I should go snoop around and find the culprit. If we're really sneaky, the others won't even notice!"

"No problem, glad that you came and enjoy yourself so far. Hope, of course, that you will not experience anything that will ruin it," Kiyomi replied back, "I could bring up more suggestions to visit in Konohagakure. If you or either Jora wish to have a stay from the compound, just notify me. I will make sure that I will have one of the best rooms being readied for you two," she added.
Mimi nodded subtly, as she would throw a look around - already searching for a possible lead on the culprit. Slowly she was trying to shuffle away, throwing a glance at Jora to see if the man was following her or not.

Surprised by the Empress' generosity, Elena bowed her head slightly. "You are very kind. I think we shall have to take you up on that offer some time soon. It has been awhile since we've been able to get away for awhile and have some time to ourselves." Smiling warmly, she continued, "Please, if there is ever anything you need, I would love to help out however I can. And of course the same offer extends to you. If you would ever like to visit the Hyuzu compound for a time, we shall ensure a room is prepared for you. I will apologize in advance however as I fear it may pale in comparison to the beauty of this place."

Following Mimi off into the crowd, Jora did his best sneaky impression. Now, to find food...

"Oh, it is nothing," Kiyomi replied back as she lightly shook her head, "I already find it a pleasant idea to perhaps escape the capital to spend some time at the Hyuzu compound. Could use something different than this place, really," making a gesture with her left hand she rolled with her eyes, "Am used to much less, so I would be happy with anything you would deem worthy." There was briefly the thought that within the future they wouldn't just be the family of Hayate, but be hers as well. Thinking about it further, she spoke up again. "Perhaps we can try to do something together? I could use pleasant company over just servants and strict Sworn Swords. Or people who seems to have the best ideas, that somehow benefit themselves more than everybody else."

Relieved that Kiyomi seemed happy about the idea of visiting the Hyuzu compound, Elena had first feared that it may seem insignificant to the Empress. She had heard of Kiyomi's curiosity, of course, and of the girl's humble nature, but Elena was not used to speaking with someone in such a high position. The only experience she had previously had was speaking with the Elders of the Hyuzu clan. And those people always held an air of superiority. They were difficult to talk with and even harder to actually like. Kiyomi was definitely different, and Elena was very much enjoying the chance to talk with her. "I would love that! The Hyuzu compound may not be quite as grand as this palace, but we do have some interesting places to visit. I would be honoured to show you around and get to know you further." Thinking about what Kiyomi mentioned, about being around those who simply wanted to benefit themselves, Elena knew the feeling all too well. The Elders had been like that, always wanting to make things better for themselves and not really caring who it hurt in the process. Without realizing, Elena's hand moved to her stomach, resting over the scar that was hidden beneath her dress. She was not fond of those kinds of people, and was now even more determined to steal Kiyomi away, even if only for a short time.

"Bah! Nonsense!" Kiyomi replied on a most amused tone back, "The palace is quite impressive, but there are so much more interesting places. Ever been to the inner halls of Magnhild? Seen the rumoured beauty of Ardara?" She asked, realizing that Elena likely hadn't. "I am certain that the Hyuzu compound has some places that can have my curiousity only grow more. Am looking forward to be guided around, Elena," nodding towards the other, Kiyomi had already noticed that both Mimi and Jora had been gone. It was too late to do anything about it, she figured. "Talking about the inner hall of Magnhild, perhaps you could accompany me on future travels. I would be honoured..."

They had to be here somewhere. Mimi threw some looks around them. Where they? Were the servants plotting perhaps against the instruction of Jora? Wasn't he somebody who could order them around? Perhaps there was some evil scheme going on! Narrowing her eyes Mimi realised that they all could be in danger of not receiving any strawberry cakes this evening. "Mimi is afraid. This might be the plot of somebody evil!" She whispered to Jora, "We must get the cakes. Somebody might be stealing them!"

Hearing of Magnhild and Ardara, Elena's eyes widened and she shook her head. Both sounded quite exciting and she found herself already imagining what they could look like. Smiling happily as Kiyomi mentioned that the Hyuzu compound might grow her curiosity further, Elena was already thinking about the places she could take the Empress.

When Kiyomi suggested that she could accompany her on future travels, Elena's eyes widened even further to the size of saucers. "That... that would be incredible Empress Kiyomi. If it would not interrupt anything I would be more than happy to accompany you." Not sure what to say, Elena simply glanced away looking to see Jora and Mimi. It appeared the two troublemakers had vanished and she sighed inwarldy. "I am afraid those two are likely stirring up trouble again. I should probably go and keep an eye on them. Besides, you two have some catching up to do I'd imagine," Elena said, a hint of amusement in her tone. Hayate's cheeks grew flushed and he looked between Elena and Kiyomi before smiling.

"It was an absolute pleasure meeting you, Your Grace. I look forward to speaking with you again soon." Bowing once more, Elena turned and made her way into the crowd, hunting for the two escapees. As she left, Hayate turned to Kiyomi with a smile. "Hi."

Crouching alongside Mimi, Jora glanced around conspiratorially. "Perhaps they are plotting in the kitchen!" he whispered. "Shall we sneak over there and see what evil these servants are up to?"

"Kiyomi, please," she replied back to Elena, "And without any doubt, but ---" hearing what Elena said, Kiyomi lips briefly stayed parted, but would form a smile as she nodded to Elena. "Thanks," she mumbled while turning her attention to Hayate. Eyeing him, her eyebrows would perk up as her fists were placing against her hips.

"You've grown fat."

"Yes! Yes!" She whispered back, eager to reveal the evil scheme that the servants were probably having. She already wanted to run, but they had to be sneaky. So running wasn't an option. Besides, where were the kitchens? Confused and growing frustrated Mimi kept looking around. "Where are the kitchens..." she muttered, feeling the need to put the shoes off. Why was she needed to wear them? Nobody would mind her walking barefoot. Nobody at Azumi ever did! "Mimi wants other shoes!" She mumbled to Jora, an annoyed expression becoming ever more present on the girl's features.

"I wha..?" Hayate stuttered, caught off guard. Glancing down, he muttered, "Knew I shouldn't have worn this stupid shirt..." Looking back up at Kiyomi, he folded his arms across his chest and raised an eyebrow. "And here I was going to tell you that you looked beautiful today, but now I shall just have to mention that that dress is clearly too small for you." huffing, Hayate's eyes narrowed.

Glancing around, Jora wasn't exactly certain where the kitchens were either."Hmm... Good question..." he mumbled, trying to spot a likely destination. Hearing the girl mention her shoes again, Jora tilted his head to the side. "Well, if it were up to me, I'd say scrap them completely! Who needs shoes inside after all. However... I am fairly certain Elena would kill me if I said that, and Hayate would likely mope around all evening."

"You're right. I would kill you." Came a voice from behind them. Turning, Jora saw Elena standing there, arms folded across her chest and her eyebrows raised. "We've been discovered!" he whispered to Mimi.

Briefly Kiyomi smirked on how Hayate reacted. When he, however, commented on her dress her eyes widened by a small bit as she lowered her head and eyes. "What? Are you blind? I haven't grown in size like you have!" She replied back, her head lifted as there was a glint present in her eyes. She wanted to land another 'strike' but couldn't as a soft laugh escaped her lips. "It is actually still a surprise to see you without that jacket. Suppose that you can't leave it behind later on?"

"Mimi wants to scrap them! Now!" She said, already lowering herself to get rid of the source of irration and frustration. Hearing that they were discovered Mimi shot up as she quickly tried to look on who had figured out what they were planning. Having missed that Elena had spoken, Mimi frowned as she then noticed Jora's wife standing behind them. Noticing that the woman's eyebrows were frowned, the mind of the girl worked quicker than lightning that moment. "He said to scrap the shoes!" Mimi quickly said, a sad expression flowing over her features.

His expression breaking into a smile, Hayate chuckled. "I was... somewhat forced not to wear the jacket this evening. A certain little troublemaker insisted that it would be more appropriate at an event such as this." Shrugging, Hayate scratched his chin. "I must say, I do miss it."

Jora's expression turned into one of mock horror as Mimi tattled on him. Turning to the girl with a wounded expression on his face, he held a hand up to his face. "Betrayed! Betrayed by the very person I thought I could trust most!" Fighting back a laugh, Elena shook her head at the two of them. "I will deal with him later Mimi, you can bet on that. However, for now I am afraid you need to keep those shoes on. A lady such as yourself needs to be presentable and going barefoot in a feast is not acceptable."

"Excuse me," a voice said softly from beside them all, "but I believe there was a request for some delicacies?" A servant stood beside them, holding a silver platter full of strawberry cakes, eyeing them expectantly.

"Wish I could have experienced that. Does sounds that you two have been managing with me being less around," Kiyomi said, though she felt a twinge of guilt and regret. Knowing very well that she had other and more pressing matters that demanded her attention, what kind of leader was she if she couldn't devote some time for those who she wanted to protect? It made her doubt briefly if she was doing the right thing. "You seem fine without. It is kind off... refreshing," she stated, nodding to emphasis her words. Taking a step closer she reached out to one of his hands, "You know, I have been preparing something," using her free hand to brush aside some strands of red hair, a devious smile crept on her lips, "Wanted to give it earlier, but couldn't. But it might be something you will like."

"Managing, yes, but believe me when I say it is always better when you are around," Hayate said with a soft smile. Truth be told, neither of them had had much time over the past while. He had been busy preparing and getting everything organized for the journey to the East and knew that Kiyomi was just as busy on her end. While he wished things could be a bit different, Hayate understood they both had duties to uphold. Still...

Hearing her speak of him without the jacket, Hayate blushed, "Well apparently it shows my fat more," he said, grinning. "But thanks. I suppose the same can be said for seeing you in a dress. Doesn't happen that often, but you do look incredible Kiyomi." As she took a step closer, he felt a tiny shiver run down his spine. Reaching out his hand,he felt her place something small in it and looked down, surprised. "You didn't need to get anything, truly."

A joke was at the ready to 'debunk' the comment of Hayate on having her around. Instead, she would accept it without any teasing back. Not completely certain why but she decided that it wasn't the time and place. Snickering as he brought up once more that the absence of his jacket brought out his fat more, she shook her head. "Some people like their counterpart to have a bit of flesh." Pressing something small in his hand, she would pull her own hand back and frown. Clearly amused once more, this time by the fact he thought that it was from her. "Who said it was from me?" Nodding towards his hand, she added, "Think you can recognise the craftmanship. Wasn't easy to be the proxy, but 'we' managed.~"

Feeling a flush grow on his face as she mentioned some people liking their partners with more flesh, Hayate was too flustered to respond. As Kiyomi teased him further by hinting that the gift wasn't from her, Hayate's curiosity grew and he lifted the small object up to look more closely. It took a moment, but recognition hit him like a shot to the gut and Hayate's breath caught. It was a small vial, one that was intricately detailed in a style that was all too familiar and yet... Turning it over in his hand, he noticed the signature, a fresh wave of confusion washing over him. "Ho...how?" Clutching the vial tightly, he allowed some chakra to flow into it, watching as the metal began to glow. Looking up at Kiyomi with wide eyes, he did not want to hope too much, not yet. "This signature... how did you? She's..."

"I can't tell you everything. Never could or will," Kiyomi replied back with a smile. Her eyes lowered, looking at the small vial. "There is a time and place for everything. Just take this when you will head east. Once you come back, I will try to make something happen. Just know," her eyes raised as she paused for a second, "That not all is just what it seems. So save your questions for later and just focus on what is important. Besides," a slight amused expression would be shown now on the teen's features, "I really don't want to talk about it now. Want to be sure you got everything ready and need any help. Else I can always arrange you to be transported as a sack of potatoes. Remember that time?~"

Still dumbfounded, Hayate nodded slowly, looking down at the vial in his hand. Closing his fist around it, Hayate smiled and placed the vial in his pocket. If this was truly from who he thought it was, then he looked forward to finding out what Kiyomi knew. For now though, Hayate took one of Kiyomi's hands and met her gaze. "I understand, thank you Kiyomi." he said, smiling. She had told him to focus on what was important and right now, as far as he was concerned, what was important was standing right in front of him. "Hey, I think I made a pretty good sack of potatoes thank you very much." Chuckling, Hayate shook his head. "Kind of wish I could go back to that time, you know?"

Snickering as she remembered how she had transported him during that mission, Kiyomi shook her head lightly, "You were, I can't deny that." She wished the same thing. It was easier back then. Or so it seemed. Perhaps it was just that it was easier in some aspects, but considering everything Kiyomi wondered if it just had became more difficult. Or if it just had became different. "Are you certain? Going back then means you're not being with royalty. And the chance of being dressed up as a sack of potatoes is significantly larger."

Reaching up and scratching the back of his neck with his free hand, Hayate raised an eyebrow. "Hmmmm..." he mused. "On one hand, things were simpler when you weren't royalty. Less restrictions, more time to ourselves, less responsibilities... Though there were still a lot of people trying to kill us." Grinning, Hayate tilted his head. "On the other hand... Before you were royalty, I never got to see you in a dress. So I suppose royalty does have its perks." he said, his tone teasing. "And as tempting as it is to go back to being dressed as a sack of potatoes, it doesn't really offer much protection."

"Doubt that is really a perk," Kiyomi replied, most amused by that out of everything that seemed to be the first thing that came to mind. "Depends on who you look protection for. Sure, it did make my life somewhat easier," she joked, softly squeezing in his hand. Briefly wondering how Jora, Elena and Mimi were doing, Kiyomi thought of something. Pulling Hayate with her, Kiyomi would start to make way. Knowing fully well that she had to create a diversion, a plan came to hatch in her mind. It would be much easier and relaxed to be somewhere she wouldn't need to worry that somebody would grow bold enough to disturb them. "Hope you won't mind, but got something planned. And no worries," she shot Hayate a grin, "No potatoes will be involved."

"You'd be surprised," Hayate responded with a grin. When she mentioned who she looked to for protection, he blushed, glancing away. Feeling the sudden pull, Hayate glanced back and raised an eyebrow as Kiyomi began pulling him through the crowd. Wondering where they were going, he tilted his head, opening his mouth to ask. However, she beat him to it. Smiling, he nodded. "Lead the way, Milady." The thought of her stuffing him into a barrel of potatoes filled his mind briefly and Hayate chuckled to himself. Shaking the thought away, the young Hyuzu followed Kiyomi, his curiosity growing.

Harumi Uchiha,

| ANBU | Akinian Empire | Konohagakure - Uchiha Compound, at home. |

Frowning at the paper Harumi wasn't sure why it was so difficult. While unsure how long she had been staring at the blank piece of paper her mint-tea had already become cold. A heavy sigh flowed from her lips as she leant forward. Planting her left elbow on the table and supporting her head Harumi frowned. She had so much in her mind that she wanted to put on paper but she wasn't sure if Katsu would agree with being bombarded with the questions she had.

Had he arrived? Was he okay? Wasn't he scared? Perhaps being homesick? Knowing that if she would go on like she was going it wouldn't get any better. Rising up from her place the woman rubbed her forehead. Picking the mug in which she had poured in some warm mint tea Harumi noticed that it had indeed cooled down. To the point that there was almost no point in drinking the beverage. Heading to the kitchen Harumi would make herself another mug. Instead of going back to have another attempt of writing letter Harumi would drop herself on the couch. Blowing softly on the warm surface of the mug's content Harumi listened. There was no sound that anybody else was home. No sign that she was alone. Where she felt more than fine with being alone home, this was different. It just reminded her that she was really alone. Katsu was off towards the eastern continent. Gone for who know how long? And Hisoka? She wasn't sure. They hadn't talked ever since the last time. Which was when he had come back from some travel, asking her something about... what was it again? Frowning as she lowered the warm mug Harumi mentally shrugged her thoughts off. Little did it matter now.

Once she finished her tea Harumi would head back to have another try to write. Staring for a moment at the blank paper it just came to her. In all of a sudden, she started to just write.

"Kat,

I hope you're fine. Seems that with everything going on you're going places indeed. Can't put it on paper on how to express my pride to know that my little brother is going to some unknown land and protect us as those people in the Wolf country. I am certain that I am not the only one who is proud of you,"

Halting her writing for a moment Harumi's eyes half closed. She decided against to remind herself and Katsu of their parents.

"I am doing fine. Haven't been sending on a mission for some time. Guess that it might have something to do with being the spouse of the governor of the Fire province and to the heir of the Uchiha clan. Not sure how I really feel about it. Think I am starting to miss being out there, doing some work. Strange as I can remember wanting to be at home during certain missions. Anyways, I hope that the eastern continent is,"

Harumi stopped for another moment. Searching for the correct word, she would shake her head lightly.

"Exciting. Just don't forget that I am going to wait for you coming back. With stories about the places, you have been to. The people you met and adventures you had there. Wish that I could be there, with you. Please, be careful.

Yours truly,
Harumi Uchiha."

Putting the letter into an envelope Harumi would consider something. Deciding that she should see to it that the letter would be sent Harumi started to consider what she should prepare this evening for dinner. And if she should prepare a meal for herself or for two.

Storm the Beach!!

She had gathered her gear quickly, packing relatively light as she did not know what laid ahead. As they left the camp, Reyna kept her head down, not wanting to look at anyone. Guilt still flowed through her for what she had done, but there was nothing she could really do now to make up for it. Midori had reached out to her, had wanted to help, and Reyna wished she could. Midori was her closest friend. Sometimes Reyna even found herself wondering if Midori was her only real friend. She was also the only one Reyna believed could truly understand her. She also had... one of the beasts, inside her. But Midori had managed to control hers. To bond with it in a way that Reyna never saw herself doing. The monster inside her... it terrified her. The way it taunted her, it had seemed to enjoy her pain. And when she had given it control... when she had no other choice, it had done things. Things she would never get out of her mind.

When this mission was over, when they had a moment to settle, a moment to themselves. Reyna would talk to Midori. Her friend would know how to help. She always did.

Falling into place directly behind Midori, Reyna glanced briefly at the newest member of their team. Yu...Yumeji? That was it right? She was wearing chainmail armour, something Reyna was not really used to seeing. She couldn't help but feel intimidated by the girl. Yumeji seemed to hold an air of confidence that Reyna just didn't have. It didn't help that her first introduction to the new girl had been such a miserable failure.

Looking briefly from Yumeji over to Kaya, Reyna chewed her lower lip. She could never read the girl. It always just looked like she was slightly angry. Reyna couldn't help but wonder if she was the cause. Shaking the thoughts from her head, she focused on trying to move as stealthily as possible. The trip took some time, but it was easier when she concentrated on moving rather than anything else.

They stopped at the edge of the trees, looking out onto the beach. She could see the body laying out on the beach and, for a moment, she wanted to run out there and see if the person was alright. Don't be stupid, she told herself, it is a corpse, there is nothing you can do. Chewing her lip once again, Reyna tried to think what she could do. Yumeji had a technique, she had said, something to detect if there were any traps or people nearby. Kaya... she had courage. She was willing to run out there and get the body. But her? What did she have to offer?

Remembering something, her eyes widened and a glint came to her eyes. Forming several handseals, she caused a small spark to cut through her palm and she slammed it into the earth. A small puff of smoke appeared and, in it, her armadillo stood. Turning to look up at Reyna, Akuto tilted his head to the side. The girl pointed down and held up a finger to her lips. Nodding, the armadillo disappeared below the earth.

Smiling slightly, Reyna turned to the others. "Akuto can be on the lookout as well." She glanced away, suddenly unsure again. Looking down at her hand, she watched as small arcs of lightning briefly danced across her palm, sealing up the wound. Biting her lip, she gathered her courage and looked at Kaya. "I... I can watch your back... i-if you want?"

Kenshin Hishima
Location: Wolf Country War Camp Drill Yard
Rank: Kumogakure Genin
Assignment brief: "Inform all the officers on the arrival of the Akanian Empire, mission given by Commander Satoshi Jun.

The man had Kenshin's full attention as he spoke. His voice holding a sterner tone to Genin's ears. The out of breath guard was evidence enough that the task needed to done urgently to the best of his ability and quickly, in Genin's own eyes. "Yes Commander Jun." A quick salute and Genin would be off.

As he wandered into the camp, his roaming space would become ore closed, due to the busy soldiers. Satoshi Jun, crossed his mind from time to time, causing the Genin to smile. "Can't believe he said my name." He thought, the ecstatic energy flowing through him, as he clumsy evaded the men, passing him.
"Aye, kid!"[/i] Kenshin turned to face the direction of the familiar, arrogant voice. It was red headed blade smith from before, waving his hand, gesturing Kenshin to come over to him. "What?" Kenshin said, making his way towards the man. "The commander get his supplies?" arms crossed the man waited for Kenshin to get closer.

"Commander sends his thanks, said he will express it you in person a later date.", the man nodded his head in approval, a smile of satisfaction crawled on his face. "Well done Shinobi." The man would turn to back to his station.
"Hey, wait a minute." The authority ran in voice like blood through the veins. However the Bladesmith did not take his tone serious, he barely noticed it.
"What?" his voice irritant. "Need some information, I went out my way for you right? So I guess you sort of owe me back." The Genin's voice hesitant, and unsure. The man snickered, "Is that so? Ok, what do you want know."

"I need information about the officers, here, names...locations." Blowing raspberries the man, would finally answer. " Aiko Hojo, usually up in the yard doing drills. Short, black hair, black eyes, noticeable trait is a scar on the bridge of her nose. She's got attitude too. The man muttered a slight racial, that was unheard by the Genin. "Hanzo Sanosuke, red hair like mine, but longer, keeps it tied. Had a conversation with him earlier, told me he was going to the armourer, most likely be there. The eyes narrowed, he was starting to get slightly impatient, however he still kept his mental notes.
"Kaede Hojo, believe she could be on her break, you'll notice the Hojo symbol on her armor, white haired, green eyes. She's quite short. Takashi Hishima, dark skin like you, a big man, won't be hard to spot. actually, that looks like him now. The Bladesmith's squared off finger tip, pointed in behind Kenshin.

Turning around Kenshin saw one of the officers, named Takashi Hishima, a broad, muscular man with loosely curled Afro hair, a notable feature on his face, was wide nose and and nostrils. "Thank you.. "Jinga.. Jinga Sanosuke" Kenshin nodded his head, "Kenshin Hishima... Or "The kid". after the amusement wore off the two would get to their tasks.

"Hmm?" Kenshin stood straight, facing the back of the officer. "Yeah?" The wide nostrilled man said, his voice, deeper than deeper than the barrel of a canon., looking at boy, with only the side of his face showing. "Kenshin Hishima, sir, Commander Jun wanted me to report to you, that the Akanian's are here. Told me to tell you to do what was instructed."
"Thank you, you better let Kaede Hojo know, shouldn't be hard to locate, she's on her break over there." The Genin followed the direction the man pointed to at a quick pace with no time to spare.

"Officer Kaede Hojo?" The woman, narrowed her eyes in annoyance. Placing her half eating bowl down on a stump, she would finally turn her attention to Kenshin, her green eyes looking much more lighter as the sun hit them."Yes." Her face, now holding a stern look."Akanian's aren't far off from the shore, Commander Jun has sent me to tell you and the other officers to do what was instructed.
Her eyes widened in Astonishment"Oh? Right then. Standing up, and dusting herself, she would gesture thanks to the Genin. "Go find Hanzo Sonosuke, he's been waiting for this information for quite some time. I think he's still shopping. She picked up her bowl, and gave Kenshin directions to where Hanzo would be. Shortly after the two would eventually separate.

"So you can do something with this."
"I should be able to, will take a bit of time though."
color=orange]"Well, good work is never rushed",[/color] laughter exited the man, however it would be cut short as the Amourer, revealed the Genin approaching his customer. The man turned,"What can I do for you boy? A wide smile, on his grizzled face. Kenshin would flash a small smile back to the officer. "Commander Jun.. "Akanians, the man rudely interrupted, not even letting the getting finish. The man's smile grew wider, revealing his teeth, Kenshin didn't really know how to feel about this. "They, are here, right? Eagerness had possessed his voice. "Yeah an" "We do as instructed by Commander." He said, rudely interrupting again. Kenshin didn't mind, it saved him time. "You got it, I guess that leaves Aiko Hojo." Before the Genin left the red headed Sanosuke give him directions to the Drill yard. "Don't rush now." He took the charismatic man's advice, like a spoon of flavored rice.

Kenshin turned up to the Drill yard, he would take small baby steps as he observed the soldiers do their drills. It gave him a small burst of energy, almost inspiring, mixed with determination. "Maybe I'll join them, I do have some time to spare, an I also need hone my skills, after all, we are going to war." The Genin would reach a final decision, being partially selfish, he would put on the medium armor that felt heavy on him and begin his drills.
Later he would partner up with a mature figured woman, her skin pale as snow, and hair jet black. It wasn't surprising that woman had the upper hand, her eyes held solid experience, like blood in the body of an elephant. However Kenshin did not sulk for long, it was a lesson well learnt.

Later on he would go into the tent, informing Aiko Hojo that the Akanian forces were approaching. The woman nodded, pondering on her thoughts. Kenshin managed to get a deeper look at her deep, yet small scar on her nose, wondering what the origin was. However the boy didn't question, it was non of his concern. "Right, So i'm guessing you've told every officer right, seeing as I saw you out in the drill yard earlier...Sloppy performance if you ask me.
"Yes ma'am", he ignored her comment, but he couldn't ignore the negative feeling it left on him."Hanzo Sanosuke, Kaede Hojo, Takeshi Hishima, and now you." The woman counted the names on her blistered fingers, her face straighter than bokken, he trained with earlier. "You're missing one, Midori Sato...I heard she's on a mission, don't know how long she will be. A sinister grin made its way onto her face. "Good luck with time, kid." The woman would turn her back on the Genin and continue her personal training. "Her attitude really does stink..like her body odor."

The Genin was stuck in a sticky situation. He could either wait for Midori Sato, with little information on her time of arrival, or he could return to Satoshi Jun, hands half full. The Genin didn't think twice to choice the first option, it was in his nature to finish what he started. The Genin would include himself in some small task to occupy himself while, he waited for Midori Sato to return, he remembered her description, she wouldn't be too hard to recognize. "Can't fail now."

Team 13 Sp. Jounin | On the Beach

Somehow the team was moving as one. Or at least, it held the illusion that it was moving as one. They all brought in suggestions as to how to approach the task at hand and looked expectant to Midori, who confused for a moment just stared back. Wait, right, she had to make the decision here. Why was this still so confusing? Yumeji could deploy a sort of sensory technique, if Midori had understood correctly, and Kaya had suggested that she wished to run ahead to get the thing. Reyna offered the services of her summon, the cute armadillo. When she had time, she really had to ask how Reyna came to have Akuto. Time was a luxury though these days and seemed most fleeting than ever.

"Any sensory technique would be great," she said to Yumeji, for a moment forgetting that the girl had, once again, called her ma'am. "If Yumeji finds nothing and Akuto also detects nothing then Kaya, you can move up. It could be that we are alone out here, but I don't want to-"

The words got stuck in her mouth as suddenly from the far left side of the beach, two figures appeared on the sand close to the corpse, shifting in place as if they had used some kind of body replacement technique. Their red cloaks billowed in the soft ocean breeze. Strawhats in a fashion she had never seen before covered their heads and shrouded their faces in shadows. The two figures stepped towards the corpse and Midori reacted.

She turned to the rest of the team. "Nevermind! Change of plans. Me and Yumeji attack these guys, provide a distraction. Kaya, Reyna, you get that thing. Okay? Okay." She shot Yumeji another look. She was unsure how the girl fought, but if the armor and the shield were any kind of indication then she could pack a punch and hold her own. Which was good, because so could she herself. They should be able to hold of two people with ease. Besides, she honestly didn't want Reyna to be in combat right now. She knew that it was inevitable at some point, but that Beast inside Reyna was not stable at all. That monster had spoken with delirium in his voice and it had scared the crap out of Midori. Gyuki was terrifying yes, but he had a rational sense about him in some ways. She could understand his arguments. With Isobu however... that was a whole different story. And Reyna had no way of controlling that properly.

Midori shot one last look at the two before urging Yumeji to come forward out of the treeline and run towards these new people with her. Frontal attack was more her style anyway, she thought as she saw how the two strangers noticed her and went for their weapons. Midori herself already held a seal at the ready.

What she didn't know was that there were two other strangers waiting, watching, in the treeline.

Team Some Number Chuunin | To Home

Some woman had paid his bail. Sho didn't understand, couldn't understand, why anyone would pay the bail of someone they didn't know. He was pretty sure he had never seen the woman with the red hair before and from her uniform she wasn't even from Amegakure. Why go through the trouble of getting him out?

Well apparently to get some answers on some questions.

Whatever.

The point was that he was now free again. After he sort of gave answers to the things the woman wanted to know - she did get him out so at least he could say two or three words to her - he was dumped back on the streets. Just like that. No one seemed to care, no one seemed to notice. He wasn't sure what was better, that people cared that he got out of prison or that people not cared. Somehow the latter one left a bitter taste in his mouth. He was pretty sure his mom didn't even know he was in prison in the first place. A second time. He wondered if she even knew about the first time. She hadn't mentioned it in the brief conversations they had had so he assumed that she either didn't care or honestly hadn't been informed. Both were equally viable.

He gazed at the street before him where people went about their ways like usual. A light drizzle dampened his hair. No one spared him a glance. Sho shoved his hands in his pockets and stepped forward, somehow even more unhappy with this situation than he had been while in prison. At least Jugo hadn't bothered him, that was good. He was pretty sure he would have punched the guy if he had stepped one step inside his cell and had started talking about Godai.

Speaking of Godai, he had totally nailed that waterball technique that he had thrown at the Uchiha boy. That was pretty darn cool really. Screw his father who said that he was a slow learner, he had aced that technique without trying more than twice. A slow grin spread over his face as his feet automatically found their way to his home. Maybe he should have gone with the heavy technique though... The light waterball hadn't stopped the Uchiha in his tracks at all. It had hardly bothered the guy. Next time perhaps.

Soon he found himself standing before the door of his house. He tested the handle and found it unlocked, indicating that his mother was home. He shoved the wood open and was already half way out of his shoes before he closed the thing behind him. With a swift kick he send the footwear aside where they landed against the wall and fell on the ground. He didn't bother to see exactly where they landed but instead made his way up the stairs to his room. He could hear the voice of his mother calling out to him as he was about to open his own door.

"Is that you?" she called as she did almost everytime he came home.

Sho sighed and kicked his door open. "No, it is me," he called back.

There was no reply.

The Last Payment
Sho Deshuga gets a visit from his now former boss

A Collab between Fieryfly and Nim

Summary:
Kuni comes by Sho's home to give him his final payment.

[spoili]
Walking with her hands in her pockets and the hoodie covering her hair, Kuni kept looking at the building numbers. This was the last person she needed to approach regarding this. Explain to him and give him the final paycheck. It pinched her inside, due to knowing he was the first person to work with her on the place. Kuni had no idea if he even cared that that place closed, or even knew. She knew what had she needed to do, as hard as it would be for her.

Finding the building she was looking for, she entered it and walked up the stairs, looking for the apartment until she finally found it.. Uzumaki. Cool name, she thought as she approached the door and knocked on it twice, waiting to see if anyone will answer.

It took awhile. First there was a silence inside then a couple of shouts, two voices, apparently going back and forth. Then some footsteps and then the door opened ever so slightly, revealing Sho's face. As soon as he saw Kuni he pushed the door further open so that he could step in the doorway and lean against the doorpost. He lifted his chin at her as if that helped looking down on her. "What do you want?" he asked, entirely unhappy that someone he actually knew had decided to visit his actual home. Not to mention that Kuni had basically disappeared and had made his first actual job that made some decent money without being too weird or hard go up in smoke. He didn't really feel like seeing her at all.

"Hey Sho. Before I get to the topic of why I'm here, I owe you an apology. I wasn't around to open the Raining Tea Library because I was held in prison until a couple of days ago, due to the fact I was involved in the post office event. I had no way of updating anyone, and I am deeply sorry." Kuni said, and gave him a bow of apology. She didn't want to get to the next part. She really didn't, she kept thinking as she got back up from the bow and had a couple of tears in her eyes "Now, about the teahouse. I," Kuni brought her arm up and wiped the tears away. Upon lowering her arm, it would become clear that this isnt easy for her to do at all "Mind if I step inside?" She asked, her eyes red and a sniffle of her nose soon followed.

Sho raised his left eyebrow ever so slightly as he watched the girl before him spit out an apology. It was kind of a fair one especially considering he had been in prison himself for a day or so. He never really understood why he was released now that he thought about it again... Not that he really cared. As Kuni finished the bow, Sho shrugged indicating that he honestly didn't think anyone needed to bow for that. What did the apology help anyway? Nothing really. But then they came to the topic of the Teahouse, which was something Sho was mildly interested in seeing as he had withnessed the state of the building at the moment. It was weird and made no sense as he was pretty sure that he hadn't left it like that. He was also pretty sure that no rebel would ever go out of their way to put random roaches in a random kitchen.

"Yes I mind," he said, despite wanting an explanation. He wanted to know what happened to that place, but that didn't mean that this girl could just come inside. She could just tell him what happened on his doorstep. No one needed to see his house from the inside regardless if you were a crybaby or not.

Lowering her eyes for a moment, she nodded slightly "I see." She said softly before looking back at him "Well, the teahouse. Upon getting out of prison, I went to check on it, and I found it in a horrible state. The one it is still in. I barely had time to try and figure out what happened when the kitchen employee, Yuri, came with two more men who were apparently inspectors. Because of the law, I let them do their thing, but there was nothing I could do to stop them. Then the following day I found the notice on the door. And unlike before, when only the window got shattered, I don't have enough money to repair everything, or get rid of the pests in the kitchen." She said, sniffing again while doing her best to hold back her tears "I saw someone removed the notice. I assume that was you?" She asked.

"Yeah. It sounded stupid so I took it down before taking a look inside. Looked like shit." He shoved his hands in his pockets while at the same time he used his right foot to stop the door from opening further. His ears searched for sounds coming from inside, but all he found was peaceful silence. As such he could turns his attention back to Kuni. "Seems highly unlikely that some rebels would go this far, so who did it? Any ideas?" He asked her wondering if he could possibly beat someone else up for this whole matter.

"I'm not sure. You've already seen that I'm not popular while we were putting the place together. And seeing how the inspectors came just as the place was looking like that, and without a chance of anyone doing anything, I can only assume it was a group of people. Its possible it was done then because the riots provided some cover, and whoever did this took the chance to ensure no one would look their way. Who would even bother looking in the direction of a little teahouse, owned by a Jinchuuriki. And then the fact the inspectors came when they did makes me think whoever did this planned well. So, I have no leads." Kuni said, kicking the ground in frustration while a couple of tears went down her cheeks "I just hate the entire situation. But, in the meanwhile, this was only part of why I came here." She said, putting her right hand in her pocket.

"Well great. A group of people, super specific," Sho scoffed, slightly aware that Kuni obviously didn't know what happened. Yet he was strangely annoyed by that. Yes, she was a Jinchuuriki and that made her pretty freaking weird. His previous house had mostly been destroyed by the beast that she carried inside her which wasn't scary - Sho didn't do scared - but it was somewhat intimidating. While he understood that people were upset by the fact that the beast now walked among them he could honestly not phantom what good it would do to upset this girl for that. Wouldn't that make her more inclined to give in to the monster? That was assuming it was talking. Or in any other way conscious. But he had no way of being certain of that. "So what then? You're here to tell me I can't come back to work anymore, 'cause I kinda already figured that out."

Taking her right hand out of her pocket, and holding what appeared like a very decent sized cash bag, Kuni grabbed a hold of Sho's right hand and place the bag in it "I came to give you this. Your final pay. It is more than what we first agreed on, but considering how the place was shut down, and how it was so immediate and with no chance of the place opening up again, I wanted to make sure I make it up to you, at least through this." Kuni said and let go of the bag, leaving it in his hold.

Sho stared at the cash bag that rested in his hand. Well that was kind of nice of her. He hadn't expected to actually receive money now that the whole place had come crashing down so to say. Adding to that it felt like a lot. If she said she had no money to rebuild the Teahouse then how did she get this money? Sho closed his fingers around the bag and proceeded to tuck it away. Then he paused, annoyed by himself and his own thoughts. "How much would you need to rebuild the place?" he asked.

Looking at him, her eyebrows slightly rose "I would tell you the cost, but it is... Very expensive. Half of the places refused to help me, and the other half are just too expensive. And I need to rebuild all the furniture, and find an exterminator for the place, which I couldn't find one which agreed to help without also hinting at the fact I was a pest myself. I mean, there has to be one, but the cost of the furniture alone is already way too much." Kuni started explaining, but then realized all of that probably didn't matter to Sho. She told him the cheapest cost she could find for rebuilding the furniture, and waited to see his response.

So yeah it was expensive which meant that it was rather improbable that the Tea House would ever see the light of day again. Sho honestly didn't know why he cared. Maybe it just sucked to see his job disappear like that. Somehow he had become part of the place and in the back of his mind he had even kind of liked it. He didn't need anyone, of course, but they had been something together. Him, Kuni, Yuki, and whoever had worked there to get the place up and running. He remembered how he had told that policeman that there was nothing between Kuni and him, and that was true. But at least the work had been kind of fun. And strangely enough there was the feeling he now had while holding all this money wasn't that great. It weirded him out. He should be overjoyed with this payout. It was way more than he had expected, because to be fair he hadn't expected Kuni to give him money at all now that the place was such a mess.

Sighing he lifted the bag up. "I could give you half back?" he suggested annoyed by himself and the circumstance. "That could get you started... Or something..."

Hearing what he said, Kuni's eyebrows rose slightly "You could, but it would still take a lot more, and it is not like most people around would hire me for smaller, village based missions, or even any kind of job. So I don't want to take back the money and make empty promises." She said, briefly thinking back to Son-Goku and his accusation that her promise to release him was just that "I deeply appreciate the gesture though." She said, giving him a big smile "I guess underneath the tough personality you do care about some things, huh?" She said, clearly teasing him.

Sho's already annoyed expression, first having been focussed more towards himself, now turned to Kuni as she suggested that he actually cared. He shot her a glare and then placed the money on the little stand that stood inside next to the door. "Fine," he said. "Just don't like losing my job, that's all," he continued decisively before lapsing into silence. He offered, she didn't take it, fine then, it was done then. He didn't care. It wasn't his Tea House that was now just a shitty house.

Kuni opened her mouth to say something, but quickly closed it, realizing how annoyed Sho appeared to be already. She instead just gave him another small bow "I should thank you more than the others, now I that think about it. You helped me build it up. Put the place together. So, thank you, not just for working afterwards, but for helping me from the very beginning." As she finished speaking, she got back up from the bow with her smile slightly bigger than before, and then offered her right hand to shake his.

He looked at her outstretched hand for a moment. Shaking it seemed stupid. This whole deal was already dragged out more than it should be with the whole 'can I step inside?' and him offering her money. And now she was bowing and offering her hand. Begrudgingly Sho shook it. "You were paying me for it. It's no big deal," he said after letting go of her hand. "For the record I still think it is stupid that you let yourself be treated like this by other people. They have nothing to say about what you do or what you want. It's stupid to let yourself be dicated by it. But whatever. It's not really my problem, nor my business."

"You're right, of course. And I don't intend on letting people bring my spirit down, but sometimes people take things a step too far and you need to know when not to stoop to their level. If someone is that desperate to show me how they don't want me to have a business, then I will not attempt to reopen for the time being. I'll wait until people either stop caring, or until I find a way to show them that I'm not the threat they think I am." Kuni said, and then thought about something "While I don't know if you had anything to do or not, I probably shouldn't keep taking your time anymore. Thanks for listening and it was nice working with you."

That was stupid. Her reasoning made no sense. By not reopening her shop Kuni would give those people exactly what they wanted and that would give them the satisfaction of knowing they had broken her. But whatever. Not his issue. He would not delve into this argument so he shrugged. "Sure... Thanks for the money I guess," he said. "Bye." And with that he closed the door.

Giving him a nod before he closed the door, Kuni looked down to the floor. She really wanted to take his offer to take the money, but as long as she didnt know who did what they did, it meant they could do it again. And she wanted to make sure that guy was behind bars for sabotage before she even thinks about reopening. Walking away from the Uzumaki apartment, Kuni was at least relieved that she was finally done with spreading out the final payments. That was one less thing she had to carry with her.

Yet another Departure
Eiji and Kuni

A Collab between Fieryfly and Nim

Summary:
Eiji gives Kuni a choice, and then orders to leave to Konoha.

[spoili]
Sitting at Eiji's home, with Sachi resting on the couch besides her, Kuni couldn't help but think how things got to the state they were at now. Someone in the village was so unwilling to accept Kuni could still be herself, or hated her that much, they would go all the length to destroy something she worked hard on, and then ensure the place would have no chance of reopening, or even give it time. It felt like a really personal attack, but at the same time, she never caused personal injury or insult on anyone, unless you counted the girl she killed during the chuunin exams, and there was also the man she accidently harmed during the Oppression, while she was still back in Konoha for the first time. But she was assured by Aiko no one would come after her for killing the girl in the exams, and there was no way the man or any of the people that worked with him on behalf of Shoji even knew who she was.

Which meant it had to have been done as retaliation for Son-Goku's attack on Amegakure. Someone who most likely lost people close to him, but that would still mean the list would be a long one. Many people lost loved ones or close friends during the attack, so starting to go over the list could take her years, and thats if they would even be willing to talk to her, which she highly doubted. Looking at the sleeping Sachi, she was glad some people have always supported her. Or just consistently think she is stupid, but for silly reasons.

Eiji had been hoping Kuni would be home because he really needed to discuss things with her. So when he entered the living room and found the girl sitting on the sofa he was both glad and saddened. "Hey," he greeted the girl as he walked over to the couch and kneeled down before Sachi. He watched the girl for a moment, she really was getting her mother's hair. He could'nt help but smile at that though. Then he looked up to Kuni. "We," he said, "need to talk."

Hearing the door open, Kuni looked over and smiled upon seeing it was Eiji "Hey." She responded and watched as he went and watched Sachi. She briefly wondered if her mom looked at her the same way when she was younger. She couldn't remember. When she heard Eiji's remark, the smile slightly faded away "Okay. Do you want to talk here or go to a different room?" She asked, though she had a feeling that Sachi wouldn't understand most of what they could talk about even if she was awake. But she could be wrong, as she remembered Kei and Aki being very clever while being not too much older than Sachi.

"I have found that leaving Sachi alone when she is not really asleep is usually a recipe for disaster so no, let's stay." he said smiling slightly before getting up and walking over to one of the larger chairs in the room. "She will somehow manage to wreck the place. Anyway..." As he sat down he pondered about how to talk about this, but then realized that honestly there was no problem. No he didn't like it that Aiko wanted Kuni to leave, but it was better and it would keep her way safer. "I have been talking a lot with Miss Hon-Cho these past days because of all the trouble obviously. And she suggested that it might be better for you to go and stay in Konoha for awhile until this whole mess in Amegakure has blown over. Her statement is fair, because I cannot guarantee everyone's safety within the city at the moment, which pains me because I want it to be safe. So it might be good to take her up on that offer. However, I am giving the choice to you along with the advise to take the offer."

Getting up and walking to sit on one of the bigger chairs next to Eiji, Kuni listened in silence to what he had to say. Aiko adviced Eiji to send her away to Konoha until it was safe again. But when was it ever going to become safe for them? Or for her? They were shinobi, they didn't live a life of safety. They performed missions to ensure the safety of others. And if he couldn't ensure everyone's safety, why send only her away? Because she was the Jinchuuriki? It slightly ached her because on the one hand, she understood Eiji wanted her safety, but on the other hand, he was also doing this to ensure the village's safety due to the risk of the enemies catching her and releasing Son-Goku. The fact he gave her the choice made Kuni want to throw the choice right back at him. Why would he even give her this choice. After all they have been through, with several years they've known each other, he still thinks she has any reason to consider this.

"I think I understand why both you and Aiko advice to go to Konoha, but giving me the choice is wrong." She said in a quiet tone "I'll always choose to stay here, no matter what. I have no intentions of running away if the choice is up to me again. I might not be accepted, feared, despised or whatever, and people could go and cause places I put effort into to close, but I'm not going to run away by my own choice. If I do, it will only be worse for me when I come back." Looking at Eiji, she gave him a sharp look "And you also claim you cannot guarantee the safety of everyone. Even if thats the case, I know you won't stop until you get there, because this is your home, this is Sachi's home."

Turning to look at the couch, she focused on Sachi for a moment "This is my home. And I'm not going to run away from my home ever again. If you give me an order to go to Konoha, I won't disobey it, but I am not," Kuni turned to look at Eiji again "Running away ever again."

Eiji narrowed his eyes as she spoke, feeling like there was something else going on behind her words. Something happened. Her let her finish though, appreciating the sentiment she put into her own words. He was glad she didn't want to run away ever again, but this was not running because one was scared, this was playing it smart.

"All right. Then I suppose Aiko was right and I was wrong in the decision of talking to you about this first. I guess I should apologize for that," he said evenly. "In that case, there is no choice." His eyes were fixated on hers. He was no stranger to giving orders and no stranger to people possibly disliking them and yet this felt strange. "In that case you will go to Konoha supposedly against your will. But it is not running away. It has nothing to do with that."

It wasn't supposedly against her will, but she decided to not say it out loud "Understood, Eiji-sensei. How long do I have until I depart?" She asked, and her tone was somehow a lot lighter than before, almost like her normal tone. Following Eiji's orders were always something she was willing to do, no matter what they were.

"I can give you a day to get everything ready. I'm sure you have things to take care of in the city yourself. It won't be like you are sneaking away leaving everything behind after all. So I'd say the day after tomorrow would be a good day to leave," he said turning his eyes towards Sachi again. He would have to ask Ryu to keep an extra eye out on the child.

"Thanks, for the day to get ready. I don't have much to prepare except for my clothes, and telling you, Sachi and Ryu goodbye." She said, and her gaze turned to the floor "I don't know if you heard, but they shut down the Raining Tea Library. Someone went in while I was held in prison and tempered with the furniture, filled the kitchen with bugs, and before I had time to do anything, they got health inspectors to come look, so the place failed and closed down, and even with all the profits I've had, it wasn't even a third of what I needed to fix it up." She finished speaking, her tone becoming slightly more quiet once more "But now I don't even have time to look into it. I best start getting ready." Turning her gaze back to Eiji, she gave him a soft smile "I'll miss you."

Eiji expression saddened. So there was the hidden trouble behind her previous words. Her Tea House, the place she spend countless of hours on, was gone. Or at least, it could no longer be used. He wasn't one to get angry at people, patience was definitely one of his virtues, but he simply couldn't believe the people that would possibly have done this. Sure, it was true that the Yonbi destroyed a lot of Amegakure and that was terrible and unforgivable. But that was the beast, not the girl. Did these people think that by hurting the girl they hurt the beast? What annoyed him even more was the fact that Kuni had been put in this position, though that was an unfair thought. Of all the people that could have been chosen as Jinchuuriki it was Kuni because she had been available at that time.

"I'm sorry," he said slowly. "That is terrible." He didn't offer any other consolidations nor solutions. There was no way he could promise anything to her at this moment so it would be unfair to do so. "I'll miss you too. So will Sachi. But this time at least I know you'll be back here before I know it."

A collab between Nim and Jason

Summary: After waking up late in the day, Ryu heads downstairs to find Kuni in Eiji's apartment. The two talk for a bit as Kuni has some news to tell Ryu.

Grumbling as she made her way downstairs, Ryu was starting to regret helping with rebuilding the neighbor's house. Well, not really regret. More she was starting to feel it, everything was sore. Still, she had to get up to go out, or Naomi might riot. As she made her way into the living room, she paused to stare at the other person in the living room. Still partially asleep from only waking recently, the girl took a few moments to realize who was standing on her hands nearby. "Kuni? What are you doing?" She asked, slightly at a loss for why her friend was just standing on her hands in the living room.

Her eyes closed, Kuni kept her mind calm. She would've continued meditating in the training field, but a jounin that arrived there to train his team made her leave, meaning she had to finish somewhere else. She decided to finish at Eiji's home because she knew Sachi was out with the nanny, and Eiji was at the office. She managed to stay in this position for 15 minutes before Ryu came and asked her a question. Opening her eyes, Kuni turned to face Ryu, still standing on her hands "Hey Ryu! I completely forgot for a bit that you were staying here too. I was meditating. Usually I do this outside, but the training field I was at was needed for another team, so I decided to finish it here." She explained, and then looked at her teammate for a couple seconds longer "Did you just wake up?" She asked with a raised eyebrow.

Looking over herself, Ryu was pretty sure she had gotten ready before coming downstairs. "How could you tell? She asked, seeing as it seemed she hadn't forgotten to get dressed or anything. "Please tell me I don't look that bad." She added, then shrugged it off. "More importantly, where the heck have you been, Kuni? I haven't seen you in a while!" She said, waiting to see if Kuni planned to stay standing on her hands the whole time.

"Oh, it's not something thats on you. It's your posture, it shows that you are either still not fully woken up, or you don't have enough energy, and considering the time of day and where you just came from, I assumed it was the first." Kuni explained, and then looked down, which meant she was staring at the celling "Oh, have you heard of the post office case, right? With several shinobi being taken in for questioning?" She asked as she realized it might be a bit annoying for Ryu to talk to her like this, and moved to stand on her legs instead.

Giving a small laugh, Ryu nodded. "You got me there. Yeah, I just woke up." She said, then heard Kuni's answer to her second question. "Oh I know plenty about that. There's a certain Housha who still owes me an explanation for why he just ran off to get involved. Anyways, Eiji-Sensei told me you were helping the police figure out what happened." She said, looking towards Kuni as she got to her feet. "Since you were gone so long, however, I assume something more than that happened. Are you alright?" She said, wondering if perhaps Kuni had been injured, but she was sure Doctor Tsubaki, or Eiji would've told her if that happened.

She was helping the police? So Eiji hasn't been completely truthful with Ryu "I'm alright, don't worry. And I'm not sure I would call it 'helping the police figure it out'. they interrogated me once, and then held me in a prison cell for several days. I wasn't told why, but I assume it is because the culprits weren't upperhanded yet, and my status. But that doesn't matter now." Kuni said and gave Ryu a smile "Being in there gave me plenty of time to think about things. Perhaps a bit too much time. And after I got out two days ago, I got struck with one thing that followed another and..." The smile slightly faded away before she shook her head a bit "Nevermind that. How have you been doing this past week?" She asked.

"Your status?" Ryu asked, before she recalled that time she had visited Kuni and that annoying boy, Sho. Slowly, she recalled the events, and that her friend had a monster sealed inside her. "Ah. Well, I am glad your okay! The riots were a little scary, and some of the stuff I saw..." she said, then shook her head to free the thoughts. "Other than that, I've been good. Busy with helping rebuild the neighbor's house, but good! We even had a guest for a short time, Mrs. Cho-Hon. She seemed nice, I was kind of impressed to meet her, having only heard some stories and such." Ryu said, quickly trying to move the subject to a much more pleasant subject.

"Aiko was here? I haven't seen her since the Chuunin Exams. I miss her." She said "And it's nice that you are helping others. Productive and useful." Kuni smiled as she begun making her towards the kitchen slowly. After a couple of steps she realized this was a good time as any to let Ryu know "Ryu, I know we haven't been seeing each other a lot recently, but Eiji ordered me last night to go to Konoha, for my safety and the safety of others. I'm departing tomorrow and I wanted to make sure you knew where I'm headed to, and why." She said, her gaze moving to her feet.

Ryu had thought it was cool Kuni seemed to know Mrs. Cho-Hon, but the next thing Kuni began talking about immediately overshadowed that. Looking towards Kuni, Ryu frowned as she noticed that the other was looking towards her feet suddenly. Immdiately, Ryu stepped over and hugged Kuni for a second. "Well. You'll definitely be safer there for now, not that I think you need it. I doubt Eiji-Sensei or any of us would let something hurt you. We're a team, right?" She said with a small smile, even though the news had upset her. However, it seemed that Kuni was bothered by it as well, so Ryu felt the need to reassure her friend. "I'm actually kind of jealous. I'd much like to visit Konoha myself, see what it is like. You'll be coming back though, right? So its not the end of the world or anything." She added, trying to tell if she was helping Kuni feel any better.

"Thanks for saying that. It means a lot, and you can be sure that if it was the other way around, I would've done everything in my power to ensure your safety. And I think I understand Eiji's situation, with what I've heard about the riots that happened, Hoshi quitting her role as Jounin Commander, and at the same time he still needs to attend to matters regarding the next Amekage and everyday matters, such as being a father and ensuring his team is still fine, not to mention the paperwork. Have you seen the quantities of paper he gets? I'm surprised he hasn't made a swimming pool of papers in his office." Kuni spoke, and realized she was starting to sidetrack. Ryu also mentioned she was jealous "I've been there twice. Once a couple of years ago, for several months. It was then that I met Aiko, and also Zakito and their kids, and the last time was a month ago. It's a really nice place, you should try and convince Eiji to see if maybe he could see if there is any mission requiring anything regarding Konoha, when things settle down for him of course." She finished speaking and took a brief breath, giving her teammate a smile.

Ryu gave a small smile as Kuni spoke, but remained silent for a few moments after her friend had finished. "First, don't thank me for saying what I said. You're like... one of my three friends. I think its expected that I'd want to avoid you being hurt! Besides, who else will threaten my boyfriend upon first meeting him? She said in a pleasant tone, recalling how Kuni had met John, then immdiaetly had hit him and told him to be nice to her. It was kind of funny, Ryu wasn't going to lie. But as she thought about what Kuni had to say about Konoha, she frowned slightly. "I doubt I'd get the chance. Eiji-sensei doesn't seem to keen on letting me do anything that isn't completely safe. Not since, you know." She said, looking away for a brief moment. "But I'd love to go. I was born there, but we moved before I had any memories of Konoha. I would especially love to go learn about my clan. Books only can do so much, you know?" Ryu added at the end, trying to sound a bit more upbeat.

"Which is exactly why I said 'when things settle down for him'. I know he wouldn't let either of us go on our own unless he has to, and while I'm a special case for a very specific reason, you are still a regular student and shinobi under him. So yes, I doubt he would let you go on your own, but hopefully by the time I'm back, things would settle down and Eiji would be capable of going on missions again. For the time being, however," Kuni said placed her hands in her pockets, rummaging through them briefly before taking out a pen and folded paper "Why don't you write for me if you want anything specific from Konoha? Preferably nothing big or suspicious. And I can't bring any Uchiha clan members with me. At least, I don't believe I can." She said, handing the pen and paper over to Ryu.

Ryu wore a small smile at the second part of Kuni's statement. "Awh, you can't just kidnap one?" She said before giving a small laugh. "If I can think of something I'd like, then sure. Though you really don't have to get anything there for me! Although, since you've been twice, we should totally force Eiji to let us both go at a later time! That way you can show me around, and probably end up having to keep me from getting myself in trouble. I seem to have a talent there..." She said happily, thinking it'd be a fun trip to go with Kuni.

Laughing at the kidnap remark. Kuni smiled as she listened to the rest of what Ryu had to say. Go together? That would be awesome! She could introduce her to everyone she knew, unless they were on missions/busy like Zakito. Though she actually doubted Kiyomi would spare time to meet a friend of hers. Just because she was a Jinch didn't mean she got to have everything the way she wanted "I'll pass the idea by Eiji when I get back, but as long as there isnt a proper reason, I don't think it will happen. But I am certain the Empress will come here at some point, so you could say a very vital representative of both Akino and Konoha will be coming to Amegakure. I know its not the same, but it will be something exciting when it happens, right?" She asked with a smile.

Ryu stood silent for a few moments, taking in what Kuni said. "The Empress coming here? Wouldn't that be really dangerous though, given what happened recently." The girl said, thinking more of that creature she had seen, than the riots. She wasn't sure what it was, but she thought that maybe those things would try to hurt somebody so important. They certainly didn't seem friendly by any means.

"Well, I suppose its true that its not safe. Maybe they'll send the chosen Amekage representative somewhere else to meet the Empress then? I mean, any celebration for the new Amekage, whoever it will end up being, could be held at any time. But, nevermind that. Thinking about too much is starting to give me a bit of a headache." Kuni said, rubbing her temples for a moment "So, what do you want to eat as your brunch?" She asked, finally entering the kitchen and leaving Ryu behind.

"That," Ryu said as she followed Kuni into the kitchen, "depends entirely on what we have." She said with a small smile as she figured it would be fun to have a brunch with Kuni, since her teammate would be leaving soon anyways. "I'll help with whatever it is we are making!" Ryu said, and soon after found herself at work helping out Kuni. Humming slightly to herself as they made the brunch.

[fieldbox=Sinister information~, teal]

A collab between Aliceee and Gerontis.

Summary :
Zakito and Kiyomi have a small meeting, where Zakito informs the young empress about the information that they have gained from various 'guests' of the Intelligence Division. The man also opens up on what they will be doing soon. Then the conversation shifts on about the Hyuuga clan and who will take their prestigious spot among the 'ladder of clans'.

[spoili]
"And that is what we managed to learn so far."

Zakito leant back in the chair he sat in. Folding his hands together, he watched how Kiyomi kept pacing back and forth as she had listened to what he had to share. The information that they had managed to win from the 'guests' from the Intelligence Division had proven to be interesting and uncomfortable. First came the fact that they knew that the majority of the Zealots were residing in the Rain province now. This had come from the old priest that Harumi Uchiha had captured in Keishi. With the odd woman or shapeshifter, they had learned more of the Zealots. They operated in what one could consider how shinobi did, but there were some glaring differences. Much as Ezuri Hyuuga as a source had made it clear, they didn't focus on just to sabotage or wrecking damage to the Empire. No, it was worse.

They were trying to learn. Gain knowledge of the lands belonging to the Empire. Trying to find weak points to be exploited. And they were succeeding.

"But what about that ... decaying person?" Kiyomi asked, clearly confused by some parts of information that Zakito had decided to share with her. She wasn't too afraid for those zealots. They were still human. Each with their weakness and the fact that they would bleed or die if hurt well enough. "Somebody is either alive or dead. Not ... decaying, right?" Kiyomi asked, frowning as she turned to Zakito as she would halt her pacing.

"I believe that is the case. Two members of the Ghost ANBU who conducted some experiments were wounded in the process. It is clear that the test subject is depending on chakra as a source to keep on going. It has rejected any water or food for all this time and even then it hadn't shown any decrease in will, strength or capabilities. The interesting factor is when Dragonsteel is brought near the test subject," Zakito said in the calmest tone as if they were just talking about a normal patient, "Seems that it is something that the test subject dreads. Those who conducted the research believe it is because of the properties that Dragonsteel has and the test subject's life force is chakra. Which is," he turned his gaze at the painted table in front of him, "Making me wonder if it isn't their true weak and strong point," turning his gaze back at Kiyomi, Zakito would continue, "According to the reports of both Team 7 as the ANBU, it is clear that the creature is capable of draining chakra through physical contact. It is in essence not that far away from how Samaheda worked. But it is also clear that anything that disrupts chakra or repulses it will make the test subject... experience a sense of dread as it is quite threatening."

Listening to what Zakito said, Kiyomi felt a sting of anger. She could contain it to remain focused. But the idea that she had lost the blade known as 'Shark Skin' was something that still irked her. "Could it be that the Republic is..." her voice slowly trailing off, heading to the other side of the painted table. Her eyes would lock her gaze on the Republic in the painted table.

"No," Zakito said in a confident manner, "Further research has made it clear that the test subject as the priest has never been in the Republic or its vassal states. They herald from what the researchers think is the far east. Some of the Ghost ANBU that had been sent to the Wolf country have confirmed some shared memories and images out of the test subject and priest's memory." Pausing Zakito wondered what went through Kiyomi's mind. Not to mention that Hisoka and Meisa would have been quite handy to help to combat the Zealots now that they had managed to uncover a lot of information. "Without a doubt," he began, "I will make it happen that Hayate will be informed of what we learned today. I am certain that if it will come to blows with... more of these," Zakito thought for a second, "Creatures, that he and the others will be able to best them. I think it were Koike and his Uchiha companion that had faced against a similar Zealot creature. And managed to wound it, if we go by their report."

"Good. So they can be beaten," Kiyomi said on a soft tone. She thought once more about it all and wondered how it was possible to turn what were likely once normal people into these creatures. Or were they just constructs? Shaped to look and act as people, to fool their targets and prey into lowering their guard? "So what will we do now?" Kiyomi turned her head to look at Zakito.

"We will strike back," was the answer as Zakito would stand up. Leaning a bit forward he would place a finger at the location of the capital of the River province, "We know that there is a cell here. I want to send a team later on when we have gained more information on the operating cell. The provincial authorities have been alerted and won't do anything more than being watchful. Unless the operating Zealot cell will force their hand." His right hand would move to Amegakure, halting at the place. "Then there is Amegakure. A lot of chaos and unrest have stirred up here. Already Team 8 is deployed here, but I am unsure if it will be enough. Seeing that there is some light activity at the other provinces I am guessing that the Zealots are aiming to bring our attention to the western side of the Empire. Though," his tone became grim, "It could be worse. If their goal is to obstruct and occupy us from probing further into the east then they might decide to create an opening for the Wind and Fang country to launch an offensive. It is a bit too convenient that just when the riots in Amegakure happened that the two countries decided to form a military alliance."

Her eyes narrowed as she stared at the western border with the Wind and Fang country. It would be quite bad if the two countries would declare war. Not that Kiyomi felt that the two nations would be able to overpower the empire, but it would make things so more complicated. Not to mention that it would be better to prevent a war at this time than to face one soon. "What about the Dragon Lotus? Can't you deploy some of your agents? Then we will use the Zero Teams to help to obstruct the Wind and Fang alliance. Once we have that going on," she pointed at the eastern continent on the large table, "We will make sure that we will have located the source and crush it."

Remaining silent for a moment Zakito shook his head lightly. "I already have deployed both the Zero Teams as members of the Dragon Lotus. In the following weeks, I will make sure that the Ghost ANBU will sniff out the Zealots in the majority of the provinces. The only problems will be the Rain and River province, but I will see what I can do about them. As for crushing the source? I am not truly certain if we will manage that quick enough at this pace."

A cold chill ran down Kiyomi's back. While she felt confident about combating the Zealots and their source, it was just dreadful to see, and hear, that Zakito considered it anything but easy. The look in his right eye and body language made it clear that he was really worried about the threat of the Zealots. The man that she had considered to be quite fearless. "Then what do you suggest we do now, at this moment?"

The man chuckled before answering. "We will let the pieces move. I have made a few moves. Let's see how well this enemy play before we will be caught rushing." Sitting down on the chair, again, Zakito would throw a glance at the thick door. It was guarded by some of the best and loyal Sworn Swords. Yet he wondered if this was the place to talk about what he had learned not too long ago. "Why did you rig the Hyuuga clan to its demise?"

Nodding Kiyomi started to pace again. This time she was trying to figure already what their enemy would do. Hopefully, they would make some mistakes or be caught off guard. The question about the Hyuuga clan made Kiyomi come to a halt, with her back to Zakito. Turning half around, a neutral expression was plastered on her face. "I doubt that my actions would have meant the end of the Hyuuga clan. If anything," she made a gesture with her right hand, "They were heading to their own demise sooner or later."

Keeping his right eye locked, as his left eye was closed, on Kiyomi the man remained silent for a moment. "Did you plot this or was it Meisa?" He asked next, though his tone was calm.

"It was me. Meisa provided some help and advice," Kiyomi said as she lightly shrugged, "You can't honestly state that you disagree that we shouldn't have done something about that prick. He was getting paranoid and would have become dangerous for the stability in the capital."

Thinking about the previous leader, Hideyori Hyuuga, Zakito couldn't indeed disagree that he had worried about the mental state of the man. His children and thus heirs had died except one. Who he had branded with the cursed mark and then alienated her from the entire clan. Yet there were other factors that made him worry about the current state of the Hyuuga clan. "Hideyori's death and the rise of this... Hiraku Hyuuga is the end of the Hyuuga as the prominent clan. Won't be long before another clan will claim their position. Not to mention, what if your influence in their demise will come out? Do you truly trust this Hiraku Hyuuga? To both keep it all a secret and remain loyal?"

"I already am betting on it," Kiyomi replied as she placed her hands on her back. Taking a few steps towards Zakito, her eyes half closed. "And to answer your questions, no. I don't trust Hiraku Hyuuga completely. But he was perfect for my plan. Is known to have loathed and been against Hideyori's rule before I even started to work on my plan. His sudden accession to the Hyuuga top has so far been unchallenged, but if he will claim that it was the crown that was behind the death of Hideyori?" Letting a second pass by, a ghost of a smile became evident on Kiyomi's lips.

"Then I doubt it will make many believe that it is true. Certainly when Hiraku's reputation prior Hideyori's death will be remembered. When it is clear that Hiraku's plans for change won't come to fruit. Besides," she continued, "I have enough evidence to turn the table around and have Hiraku arrested for treason and murder. That is if the other Hyuuga won't get to him first if he will spread the news carelessly, admitting he is a kin-slayer and will make him look like a power hungry person. Then again, doubt that he will be willing to bring danger to his home, kin and clan. He didn't seem to be aware of my true intention, so if anything I anticipate that he will just be occupied to rule over a clan that will doubt his capability to lead."

Watching and listening to Kiyomi, Zakito wasn't sure how he should feel. It was clear that the teen was grasping the teachings of Meisa in a pace that made her able to play a game against a clan without exposing too much of herself. But he wasn't sure if he could condone the fall of the Hyuuga clan. Knowing it had to do with the balance of the clans that could now shift into a new one was making it uncomfortable for him, Zakito slightly raised his chin. "Seems you have grown better at this. Though, if the Hyuuga will spiral from their prominent position. Who shall replace them?"

Kiyomi threw a look at the painted table. Her gaze went towards the Fire province of the empire. Towards Vindex. "The Tokugawa clan might take the previous spot of the Hyuuga among clans. Wouldn't hurt my rule as they seem to know a thing or two about us Hons. Or perhaps," her gaze moved closer to Konohagakure, "The Hyuzu are slowly gaining more of a name in the Empire. I might personally prefer them, but doubt that Jora is the ambitious type. Neither do I think that any of the Yakimara clans will make a move. But suppose we will have to wait and see."

"Seems so," Zakito mumbled. He wondered briefly what the other clan leaders would think of the slow downfall of the Hyuuga clan. Knowing that it wouldn't mean a direct impact, there could always be shifts that nobody could anticipate or predict. Leading to more bad than good. Getting up Zakito let out a sigh. "Well then, I suppose I will take my leave. You have a meeting from a representative from the Hyuuga clan soon, don't you?"

Kiyomi's nose wrinkled as her facial expression shifted, making it clear she wasn't looking forward to the meeting. "Yes."

Summary :
Kiyomi has a meeting with Tajima Hyuuga, the Silver of the Hyuuga clan. The latter comes to bring a gift, which makes the young empress wary. Eventually, the gift is accepted as the reader can become aware of some brooding elements in the Hyuuga clan.

[spoili]
Tajima Hyuuga, the current Silver of the latter, lingered outside the Empress chambers as per earlier arrangements, having just arrived and concluded the necessary procedures to be admitted into the heart of the palace. Done up in the clan's trademark loose-fitting robes underneath a black, silver-hemmed haori, he was a fair-skinned man in his early-forties, his shaggy hair ash-grey since birth. A single retainer hovered behind him, cland in much the same fashion barring the haori and carrying under his arms an ornate box with the Hyuuga crest emblazoned on top.

Waiting Kiyomi watched how the previous person walked out of the throne room. Her eyes were halfway shut as she wasn't much in the mood to endure the dull talks. Her thoughts were somewhere else and for a moment she considered to just get going to conduct her own affairs. Who would stop her? It wasn't like anybody would physically attempt to stop her if she would cancel the meetings, would they? Dismissing that thought, though being slightly amused by it, Kiyomi briefly glanced at her right. The young teen wondered about how some other people were doing as well considering what she should do once she was done with 'duty' for today. For a moment she couldn't help but wonder how Hiron was doing, but just as she wanted to curse herself mentally as the guilt started to rise in her, a herald announced the next visitor. Turning her gaze to the opening of the spacious room Kiyomi would wait for the Hyuuga to enter the throne room. There was a curiosity drifting up in her mind as she wondered for a moment if the clan would send Hideki in the future - once the latter would arrive from the eastern continent. Likely not, but it was a thought she wished could become reality.

Contrary to her musing, however, the man who entered was neither swathed in bandages nor lacking an eye in place of some burned tissue — nor did he particularly like sushi. Tajima made an elaborate show of a bow, bending low. "Tajima Hyuuga at your service, your Grace. I hope this meeting is of no bother to you. I hear you are quite busy these days." There was a muted hint of curiosity in his lavender-tinted eyes as he raised his head and looked upon her.

Observing the Hyuuga Kiyomi was for a moment pondering. His name didn't sound familiar and due to the latest developments, she hadn't studied those who had made an appointment with her today. What did it eventually matter, Kiyomi thought to herself. Letting the silence continue to reign in the room, Kiyomi brought her hands together on her lap. "A pleasure to meet you, Taijama Hyuuga. As I am quite busy these days indeed, I doubt that there is any need to rush anything you wish to discuss or bring up before me." Kiyomi said, keeping her expression calm. She was somewhat curious in what the man behind Tajima had in the ornate box. "So please, with all means." Kiyomi invited as she would flash a small smile.

"Thank you," he said, inclining his head. He made a gesture for the retainer to enter as he spoke. "First of all, while I'm sure the young Lord Hiraku has spoken with you earlier about much the same topic, I'd like to preface with an apology on behalf of my clan. There is little to be said about the behaviour of the late Hideyori; he did much in sabotaging our relations with you and all the Fire clans, for which we can only hope to amend in the future. As a small token of our regret and reflection, however, I'd like to present you with this gift — symbolic in nature but dating back to the Warring States Period." The retainer opened the box and displayed its content for Kiyomi: an ornate tea set in porcelain, adorned with Marigold flowers and the Hyuuga's crest. "In the olden days of the clan, sets like these were typically gifted to commemorate association with other clans. While I do realize the belatedness of it all, I hope it will please you to some extent."

Hearing Tajima out a frown would appear on the brow of Kiyomi. Leaning more back into the throne she kept looking down on the Hyuuga. With her sharp eyes, she did notice that the tea set wasn't just the ordinary set you could get on any market. Even while she wasn't a big fan of drinking tea, it certainly looked like a fine gift. Considering her words the teen would reply back in a friendly tone. "He had, yes. I am curious as hopeful to see how Lord Hiraku will repair the damage of the previous lord." There was a moment that she was tempted to just cut the crap with being so formal. For some reason, she felt a bit wary while talking like this to the man. "The gift is one that I will cherish, be certain of that sir. But I also must ask something in return."

Waiting for a moment Kiyomi would raise her right eyebrow slightly higher. "I might be mistaken, but I and the late lord Hideyori weren't really on good terms. A gift is quite welcome, but from my own experiences, I have a hard time with just accepting gifts and not expect a request behind it. Might I thus ask if there is something that you or the Lord Hiraku has in mind or is it perhaps my own bad experience that is playing parts with me?"

The shadow of a smile touched the corners of Tajima's lips but vanished in an instant. "In this case, the latter: My intentions in coming here are purely diplomatic and to express our guilt in regards to the former state of affairs. If you, however, would request anything of us, we'd be more than happy to oblige." As always, however, things were never one-sided — and especially not when it came to him.

Not able to hide it Kiyomi looked for a moment surprised. Recomposing herself she thought briefly about it. Raising her left hand she would snap her fingers while ordering something in the language of her culture. One of the Sworn Swords would step forward, walking to the two Hyuuga, to take the ornate box with the tea set. "Then I apologise for my... doubts." Another smile was flashed by the teen. "I fear that I don't have anything that I need from the Hyuuga. While I shall not make it any secret that I didn't like Lord Hiraku's predecessor, I shall consider this gift a new start with the Hyuuga clan. Please, bring my dearest gratitude for this splendid gift."

Tajima bowed once more in response to her words. "Thank you — and please, feel free to use it," he said on a more casual note, allowing a small smile, or what could be interpreted as a smile, anyway. "It's rather liable to accumulate dust otherwise, speaking from personal experience... And so as not to disturb you further, I will take my leave. In the future, do not hesitate to call on us if you ever require assistance or service in any matters. To repeat myself, we'd be more than happy to oblige." And with that, he bowed once more and exited her chambers, having left little in the way of impression alluding to his actual personality — if there indeed existed one.

Leaving the palace grounds of the Empress, Tajima descended the long, winding stone steps with slow, deliberate movements, the breeze fluttering his ash-grey hair. Entering one of the main thoroughfares of the village, he ambled along, his featureless mask ever present, paying little attention to the passersby — some of whom were glancing more or less inconspicuously at his get-up. The retainer, one of his Rook agents, had sped along for the moment, fetching another gift meant for the Hon clan. Symbolic in nature, as all the others: the purpose of his mission was not to play the sycophant, but to establish and repair connections to strengthen the clan from both the inside and the outside. Resurrection, in a sense of the word.

The demise of Hideyori and investiture of Hiraku, a meagre Chuunin, presented a plethora of opportunities in Tajima's favour. So much that had previously been kept under lock due to Hideyori's paranoiac secrecy was suddenly scattered like leaves across the flagstones and available for the taking. Hiraku was young and inexperienced, therefore malleable, and since he was adamant to resume his duties in the Shinobi corps as before, the bulk of the leadership was left in the hands of the Elders and Jounin in his absence. None of which presents any major obstacles… barring, of course—

A rough, disembodied voice addressed him some three paces away. "I take it you had a good talk"
Tajima raised his head. He did not have to. He knew the speaker, knew him to the marrow, and had already put to mind his hatchet-like countenance. He had been forced to listen to that voice for two decades now, with its harsh, grating edge, and all the insufferable ideas that disgorged along with it. Leaning against the streetcorner Tajima had been meaning to pass, Hiroyasu Hyuuga hovered before him like a marble statue, arms crossed as his leaden gaze bore into the former. He wore his flak jacket and forehead protector, tied around his head like a bandana, and for all appearances had the look of one prepared for a sudden, break-out war.

Tajima met his gaze with heavy-lidded eyes and replied in his usual lazy, remote tone. "Good, yes… and what about you? Have you spoken any more with that son of yours? Hideki, was it? My deepest condolences, by the way, for the…" Seeming to hesitate for a split-second, he gestured at the right side of his face, lips curving into an apologetic smile. Hiroyasu scarcely moved an inch in response, but to Tajima it might as well have been three meters. His eyes winced slightly, then narrowed and assumed an iron glow, full of burning malice. His cheekbones stood out white and his arms had grown rigid in their cross, muscles drawn taut. "Mind your own business, you scheming, old scarecrow" he growled, voice dripping with venom.

"The Elders' decision to send you instead of me for conducting this diplomacy business is madness at its worst. They're being duped by rhetoric and wheedling alone, blind to your true colours. Don't get any other fancy ideas into that gnat-like head of yours."
Tajima's smile widened and his eyes gleamed with curious delight for an instant. "My true colours? Oh Hiroyasu, you always had a propensity for humour but I—"

"Don't…" Hiroyasu cut in on him, hackles raised and teeth bared, "... play games with me. I may not be able to effect any change as we speak, but mark my words, I'll be watching you. Closely. As I always have… skulking in the very shadows you ignorantly believe your haven." A cold, involuntary shiver ran down Tajima's spine as the veins around the Jounin's eyes bulged in root-like skeins, eyes crystalline and glowing, seeming to pierce flesh and bone alike. Making no reply, Tajima flexed his fingers lazily.

A dozen heartbeats went by as the pair waged silent war with their gazes, the atmosphere pelted with invisible gusts of sweeping rain… Then Hiroyasu spat on the ground, the clouds parting and sunlight washing across the scene at once, and disappeared around the corner without a word, the veins around his eyes shoaling. Licking at his lips, Tajima remained motionless on the spot, mulling on something, his brows knitted close together. Then footfalls sounded and drew closer to him, and along with them a familiar voice.
"Sir? I have fetched the gift."
"Good. Let's get going."

[fieldbox=Katsu Uchiha | Konohagakure Team 6 Chuunin | Travelling East, lightblue]

In the dark of the night, a light danced around a small wooden desk. A tiny glass bottle of ink, a crumpled, dirty handkerchief, an enveloppe and a sheet of crude wove paper softly rolled left and right as the boat rocked to each side. Looming over the desk, Katsu had his head leaned against his left arm. In his right hand, he spun a pen with a dry tip. The only time he moved out of his position was to stop the items on his desk from falling off the side as the waves lifted the ship up and brought it back down. The young nin clicked his tongue and bit his lower lip before hastily sitting up straight and dipping the tip of the pen into the glass bottle, staining it with black ink. He moved it over to the top left of the paper and froze. As he waited, a bit of the ink dripped onto the paper, snapping him out of his trans. He swore under his breath as he panicked for a moment before sighing and bringing the pen back to the paper.

"Dear Harumi,"

He stopped after placing the comma, filling with regret. Was it too formal? He didn't want it to be. His teeth clenched as he tried to think of what to do. He tapped his foot on the ground repeatedly and the light got stronger. The moment he stopped, it dimmed again.

"How are you doing? Things here are going fine. As we were travelling to the Sea Keep, I got to meet the captains in the 13th Brigade."

Katsu leaned back and paused, his eyes drifting up to the ceiling. After a few seconds, he leaned forward again and continued writing.

"I couldn't ask to be in better company. We've yet to reach land, but I don't think there's much time left. We were supposed to arrive in a week, so I should think we'll be there in the next few days. Koike said they'd bring mail back after we reach shore and the ships go back, so you'll probably get this in just a little over two weeks. By then, I hope I'll have some more interesting adventures to write about."

He put the pen down on the desk and scratched his upper left arm and closed his eyes. Clutching the arm tightly, he stood absolutely still for several secconds. He picked the pen back up and continued writing.

"While I haven't been away from home for more than a couple of weeks, I feel like I'm going to miss sleeping in a nice comfortable bed, in a safe, decent house. Still, "you have to get out of your comfort zone", remember? I hope you're doing fine as well. I'm looking forward to reading about what's happening back home.

With Love,
K.H.U."

After signing the letter, Katsu leaned back in the chair, sighing. He folded the letter and put it in the enveloppe. As the light in the room went out, the light simmering in from between the wood of the ship became all the clearer. A voice cried out from the deck for all to hear.

"Land ahead!"

| Spc. Jounin | Konohagakure Team 6 member | Captain-Major of the Guardians | Second-in-command of the Tiger Claws |
[ Eastern continent, Wolf country, at the Akinian camp ]

The camp was being constructed but none of the present Tiger Claws on this campaign would be helping setting up the palisade or dig the trenches in front of the palisade. Once more they were occupied with scouting and patrolling the perimeter of the area. Of course, making sure that they wouldn't come too close to the camps of the Republic or Lightning country as it was of paramount importance to not cause anything that would bring an uproar or distrust. Yet it was considered important that they were aware of the terrain around the camp. Positions where watch posts could be set and the layout of the land.
With the majority of the Akinians being busy with their tasks as the night would approach, so was Saki riding on the back of Duion. The large tiger had no trouble crossing over the terrain. For a moment Saki wondered even why she had worried for a moment. Even while they were on a different continent, it wasn't like that the ground or grass was suddenly different. Making Duion climb a tall hill, Saki managed to get a good view of the surrounding land.

Taking a moment to take in the scenery Saki looked around. There was no sign of any civilisation. Which was good, she thought to herself. It meant that the allied force could stay in place for some time before marching deeper into the Wolf country. Waiting on top of the hill, a few minutes later the sounds of hooves trampling the earth resonated. Throwing a look over her shoulder a few Tiger Claws approached Saki. It was Yatori, leading his own group.
The man would halt his steed right next to Saki as he nodded towards her. Lowering the dark blue scarf to reveal the lower part of his face, the man sounded rather cheerful as he began to talk.

"Ma'am. So far no troubles have been encountered. Some groups have already returned to the camp as those who were sent to lay out the patrol rounds have been replaced by the other forces," Yatori said, looking at the scenery in front of them. Saki just nodded, remaining silent.
"Won't be long before we will see what kind of unrest is troubling this land, eh?"

Throwing a sideways glance at the man, Saki's eyebrows slightly rose. "Seems so, yes. Though I suppose we will be heading back soon. Make sure that a platoon is at all times with the commander," Steering Duion, Saki would let the tiger carry her back to the camp. Yatori nodded as he would throw a gaze at the scenery in front of them before turning his horse to follow the Yamanaka.

It was odd to admit to it but she had missed this. Walking through the camp, there was a lot of activity going on. Even though most of the troops were allowed to take a rest as the fortifications were nearly set up and done. Walking past a few tents she noticed that the last bit of the palisade was setting up by a group of troops. They were still wearing their armour and carrying some weapons with them. Coming to a slow halt, she would watch the group erect the last part of the palisade. It was somehow satisfying to see how they worked together under the leadership of what Saki assumed to be a lieutenant. Deciding to continue on, she couldn't help to doubt why everything was going so smooth. Perhaps it was just a part of her being pessimistic and distrustful but she had expected to happen that would cause a setback. An argument among the leading officers or troops refusing to commit to their tasks. But nothing had so far occurred that made her doubts and worries come to a realisation. Perhaps it was now that she could relax a bit?

Deciding to finish her brisk walk, Saki would head over to the part of the encampment where the Tiger claws resided. As appointed guardians of the Commander, Saki had made it clear where she wanted her 200 troops stationed. Not that she had been able to do that in person but she had made sure to pass on to the messenger that he should warn Hayate that she wouldn't accept anything else.

"Ma'am," a young man called out from Saki's right, "Ah, glad to see you now ma'am! Was hoping to catch up with you." Saki threw a look at her right to spot Hitoshi Uchiha. A man with short hair coloured dark brown. Stubbles revealed that he hadn't been able to shave before the departure to the east as a grin moved on his lips. But what was most characteristic about Hitoshi was the fact he always seemed to be happy about something.

"Hitoshi," Saki replied back, frowning as she expected Lee to pop up just any moment. The twin of Hitoshi wasn't ever too far. "How is it with the pens for the mounts?"
"It is all up and set. Made certain to have me and Lee to check it double. Thought you would appreciate it," the young man answered, a glint appearing in his eyes. "Was wondering though ma'am. Would it be possible to hold a contest later? One out of goodwill between our unit against one of the other forces? Would be perhaps an interesting as good to show what we are made from."

Slightly amused Saki threw another frowned look at Hitoshi. She should have expected something like that from him. "I doubt that the commander would condone that. Nor do I think that is really needed, Hitoshi. Make sure that Lee stays out of trouble. I want to hold a meeting to discuss what tomorrow will hold for us," Saki answered as she lightly pushed the Uchiha. The latter let out a deep sigh, feigning to be tired already as a moment later he would follow it up with saluting towards Saki. Throwing one more amused look at Hitoshi, Saki would continue to head to her own tent.

It didn't take much to recognise her own tent. It was being guarded almost two dozen of Tiger Claws, who seemed still after a long day ready to face anything thrown at them. For a moment the Yamanaka felt a bit bad but would go into her tent without a word spoken to her guards. Once inside she would remove most of her armour. She didn't inquire the help of any aide as she considered that not necessary. It wasn't something she could just do like throwing off a jacket or shirt. Once done Saki would roll with her shoulders. The armour of the Tiger Claws was designed to be quite protective and still allowing a lot of mobility for its wearer, it didn't mean that either putting it on or off was any easier.
A sigh followed as she sat down. Pulling some paper and a pencil Saki thought about something. Staring at the paper, the young woman wondered when she would be able to send a letter back home. Everything seemed so uncertain lately that she wasn't sure if she should even write a letter. Yet, she would lean forward and start writing in Yakimara.

"Dear Sira,
I know that I haven't been able to say a proper goodbye when I left. Am really sorry for that but I had to. Perhaps you will understand it later. I do hope I will be able to explain it later myself, once I am back. Right now I am writing you this letter from the eastern continent. Haven't yet seen much of it but I hope that the next letter I will write that I can tell you more about what I have seen and experienced.

Right now I am unsure what to think of this all. You probably will find this strange but I feel like that I can entrust some of my thoughts to you. Much as I am here, far away from home, to do my duty I was hoping you could be my little hero. I know why you were upset and I will come back."

Staring at what she just wrote Saki bite her lower lip. She wanted to write down a promise. That was if her previous writing wasn't already a promise on its own. Sighing she knew that she had doomed herself if she wouldn't come back.

"Noru should be at aunt Nani and uncle Iso. Would you mind to keep an eye on that chubby for me, please? I am looking forward to receiving a letter back.

Much love,

Saki Yamanaka."

Reviewing the letter Saki deemed it good enough. Folding the letter she would start on another.

"Dear Zakito Hon,

I have made it safe with the others at the eastern continent. Everything went fine. Not even a little trouble stirred up along the road as I suspect that many won't notice our absence until now or later. I am doing my best to fulfil my duties as the acting commander of the Tiger Claws on this campaign to both provide leadership to the unit. I, however, must admit that I feel a bit homesick.

Was hoping that this letter would reach you as I hope you have some advice for me. We both know that I am not the most talented or capable of your students and I wish that you were here. Somehow this entire trip is enough to remind me of the conflict with the Wind country. What seemed to be a lifetime ago when we were--"

Halting Saki stared at the last few words. Realising that she had started to write what she had on mind she felt bad. The loss of Kaname was still something that pained her. But without a doubt, it would hurt Zakito as well. Skipping to a new line Saki sighed.

"Sorry. Was putting my thoughts on paper. I hope that everything goes well there.

Yours truly,
Saki Yamanaka.

Now that letter was done, onwards to the next...

"Dear Kiyomi,"
