A collab between Ice, Little Alice and Roran Hawkins
Keishi
Konohagakure Team 7

Kensuke and Hideki meet with the ANBU team that's to take over their mission. Before they arrive however the Hyuuga and the Nimatsu discuss the killing intent 'technique'
The sun dawned over the town of Keishi bathing the rooftops in blinding rays of light that coloured the sky red, and then yellow. A young adult shielded his eyes from the light while he casually leaned against an airconditioning unit on the roof he was standing on. Not far behind him a blindfolded, gagged and handcuffed figure sat cross-legged on the roof with resignation. "I wonder how they'll appear." Kensuke said to Hideki. The gesture was a subtle but clear invitation for the ANBU to show up and contact them.

"Who can say? ANBU always had a way of making my skin crawl since I was a Genin. Never liked those masks," he said, hovering behind Ezuri with his arms crossed. He squinted at the dawn horizon, as if trying to perceive something. "What's Karma up to?"

Kensuke breathed in the morning air, its smell sour with bird droppings collected on the roof over the years. "She's sitting near the Eastern gates of the town. Doing nothing, yet that is." He said. As his stomach let itself be heard he reached into his pocket for some beef jerky he usually carried as travelling food for emergencies. He offered some to Hideki as he took a bite.

"Hmm." Hideki accepted a strip and munched on it discreetly, feeling little to no taste — his throat felt sour, sour and raspy, and he'd done no shouting. He had to quench the urge of activating his Byakugan, the stifling manifesting as spastic little jerks in his right knee. Conversing Chakra was paramount at the moment. Who knew when their day would end? A thought struck him.
"If you don't mind me asking, sir, the aura — should I say bloodlust? — you projected during the fight with Ezuri, how do you accomplish that?"

Kensuke looked up and glanced at Hideki with a studied expression. "It is..." He began, and his mind flashed back to the fight with the unnamed swordsman. He thought of his scarred blade in the sheath and of the scars near his abdomen. The pain, the fear all came back. "It is not just a bloodlust, neither is it a genjutsu." He finally said. "Which is exactly what makes it so dangerous to use and why it is completely unavoidable." He continued, trying to encompass the irrational ability he learned from a marauding bandit in comprehensible words. He gestured helplessly as he tried to explain what it was exactly. "It is a state of the mind that you let consume your consciousness to make all around you feel as if in the company of their natural, unavoidable predator. You focus your entire being on the undoing of your quarry. It is a very dangerous thing to use, because if you lose control it reduces you to a rampaging murderer." Like the man from whom I learned this technique... He thought. "It's hard to explain."

Hideki listened intently, eye narrowed as the thoughts bounced around his skull. "How about memories?" he inquired, frowning. "Putting yourself in the frame of mind of some past event, I mean. As it happens, I've never been much of a spontaneous menace." After a small silence he added to his first enquiry, in a slightly lower voice, "Or even, putting yourself in the mind of another."

Kensuke thought about this. "I'm not sure. It might help but that's not quite it." He said. "Let me attempt to reformulate," Kensuke continued, now trying to find an example. "Take your dojutsu. With it you can read chakra, yes?"

"Right."

"And when someone gathers chakra, such as when Ezuri spewed chakra from his chakra points, you can tell he is doing that, correct?"

"Correct."

"Now imagine you would be able to tell by someone's chakra that they are trying to kill you specifically. That you can read a sort of declaration to kill you." Kensuke said. "That's how you would 'sense' killing intent. You learn to recognise the details that give away this intent to kill. Now imagine consciously displaying this chakra yourself in order to send this ... declaration of violence to someone else." Kensuke explained. "Does that make any sense?"

"It does. The difficult part, however — as far as I see it — is not letting oneself be devoured by the actual emotions evoked — for I assume they are authentic to a certain extent, while kept at bay?"

"Yes, in a sense. In practice these details are... everything. It is in your eyes, your pose, your mind, your emotions, your smell, your movement, ... Everyone can use killing intent, but only when seriously brought to it. It is a natural reaction. The trick lies in recognising the different traits of this natural reaction and summoning them yourself. The problem lies in recognising these reactions and in keeping your original goal in mind. The feelings you summon are in all ways authentic, and if you don't pay attention they will replace your previous intention." Kensuke said and gazed at the horizon. "The man from whom I learned this had become his killing intent

Hideki glanced at Kensuke. Ezuri seemed to have fallen asleep. "Yeah. Having this career, it's not like I've never bloodied my hands"which is not so much a well-kept secret anymore"but that's an ugly side of me. A side I never want to surface and affect others — innocent people, that is. Still... I guess that's the paradoxical side of being a Shinobi."

Kensuke scoffed. "True." He said. "Killing intent goes deeper than just shinobi though. Animals have it too. It is ... an instinct. Using it is like trying to activate an instinct." He said and finished his beef jerky. "I could teach you, but it would take a lot of effort and time. And I will need to be absolutely certain that you will not lose control."

"An instinct, yes. But Shinobi are supposed to be in perfect control of themselves, immune to primal impulses — cold iron to be swung and sharpened and chipped. For me at least — as I've always been somewhat weak and malleable on an individual level — it's the only philosophy that's allowed me not to consider madness at times... Anyway, I'm rambling on. The technique would be a useful tool, and I believe I can handle it."

Kensuke looked the Hyuuga in the eye (giggle) and then looked away. Above shinobi we are also human. He thought. Losing your humanity will render you a remorseless tool. Don't go that way, Hideki. "Very well."

Through the earphone communicators, a voice would speak up in a rather calm manner and tone : "This is Red One. Over to Team 7, Nimatsu. We're approaching you, please stand by with the package." There was literally no emotion being present in the voice as it abruptly ended as soon as it had rang through the communicator. No sign of life would be spotted on the rooftops, but from various directions the ANBU were on the move. Walking with the sensor of the cell Harumi had her hair tied in a bun as she wasn't yet wearing their mask. Walking around on the street with a white mask would not give much space to blend in with the locals. This was why each of the ANBU wasn't clothed in the usual garb others expected them in. Only as they closed in the position with the team they were supposed to up with, Harumi would throw a quick glance around.

Spotting already two of the cell she was leading, she made a subtle hand gesture with her left hand. Keeping her hand low, she didn't check if they noticed the signal - expecting them to be able to pick up the small detail and movements of her fingers, which seemed to be flexing for the non initated of such code-language. Just moving into the alley that would provide a bit more privacy, Harumi's right hand would slide into the pocket of her winter jacket. Pulling the hood up, she would follow with pulling the white mask out to cover her face. Even though they were briefed they were going to meet with somebody who would be able to see through the masks it was still a protocol that they had to follow.

With two others following, one being the sensor, Harumi would crawl up the building as chakra would gather and mould at the tips of her gloved hands and her boots. Reaching the edge, she would pull herself up as a soft sigh escaped her. Noticing the tall blonde man together with the shorter Hyuuga and the 'package' Harumi briefly took the moment to eye them. For a split second her eyes traveled towards the burned Hyuuga, but her attention would shift and lock on the tall one. "Is that the guest we're supposed to bring with us?" She asked, her right eyebrow slightly perking up on her brow as she waited for a response back as the two other ANBU would stay at her flanks.

'Package.' Hideki thought, a wry smile nudging his lips. I guess that says something. Don't it, Ezuri?

Kensuke did not react safe for a small smile creeping over his face. He admired the ANBU as much as he ... pitied them. As one of the expert kenjutsu trainers which aided them in their training process he'd been impressed by their dedication, but also frightened. The sacrifices they made brought them close to being the same tools he didn't want Hideki to become. "I'd like to stay off the wireless with this discussion." He said as the woman came over the edge of the roof together with two nondescript men. He gestured at the bound Hyuuga. "This is Hyuuga Ezuri, former member of my team and our captive after discovering his participation in the kidnapping we were sent to investigate."

On the request, Harumi didn't turn to the two men at her flanks. A subtle nod, aimed to be a bit more at the side made the two others turn off their communicators. As Kensuke introduced them to the captive Hyuuga, Harumi nodded once again. "So we've been told." She felt no pity nor anger for the missing-nin. Whatever the reason, it wasn't her place to judge him. Noticing that he was relatively unharmed was already something she was pretty content with and that should be all she should be worried about. "I must state that there was a problem last night when we escorted the Lord Commander to a meeting with you." Harumi began, "The sensor just picked up three of the four chakra signatures instead of the expected four. While we are briefed to stall the investigation of the local authorities it won't do our work any good if we don't know where you all are. Is there anything that we should know about?" The woman asked, her eyes behind the mask briefly glancing at Hideki.

Hideki met her masked eye with a cool gaze, absently wondering over something. "It seems our fourth member has decided to take matters into her own hands. We'd hoped you would have been able to ascertain her position... Is there a specific range for the sensing?"

"Our objectives coincide now. My team is being withdrawn, but we'll need to recover Meilin before we leave, so you may continue with your objectives." Kensuke said. "She disappeared yesterday once she figured out her family was amongst those abducted, and I was hoping to lend your expertise to find her quickly, as Hideki said." Kensuke continued. ""Concerning our third member, Karma, I suspect she works together with Meilin on this. She left under the guise of returning home because of injuries, but I'm tracing her with a shadow clone. She hasn't left the town yet."

The Uchiha glanced once more at the Hyuuga as she would lower her head and turn it slightly to the side of her right. The man at Harumi's right flank would speak up, sporting a more friendly tone than his leader. "Depending on the area that is populated by a large amount of diverse chakra signatures, I would be able to isolate and pick up a certain chakra signature at a range of 800 meters." He answered. "That having said, we could use the chakra signatures samples provided by the Lord Commander to find your missing member. Though," he introduced a pause after his word, the mask signalling that he was looking back at Harumi.

The woman would take it over from the man. "We can't really afford much time and space to just meet up with a member of your team that is gone missing or aid you with following another member as we're already spread thin. However," she would gesture to the silent man on her other flank. "Seeing her cultural background, we have somebody who is capable of attempting to communicate with her in a language that is perhaps making her able to be willing to coordinate a meeting with you. If that is an option you would find desireable. Else, we're tasked to take it over once you resign. Though, we can't promise how we will bring her back seeing that we've read her profile."

Her profile, eh? The wry smile was again at one corner of Hideki's lips, fading almost as soon as it had appeared. I'd like to read that one... He glanced at Kensuke, awaiting his commander's response as he had the full authority on this one.

"How about this," Kensuke said. "You can find Meilin, whose whereabouts we don't know, and get a message through that she will not ignore." Kensuke explained. "We don't need your help to find Karma. In the meantime we'll transfer our intel to you. I suspect Meilin'll have new intel on the kidnappers as well."

Harumi considered the suggestion. "I suppose that you can figure out such a message?" She asked the man, who remained silent as he nodded. "Very well. We will transfer a message and then relay back what and how's to you once we know more of that." With that having said, she would gesture to Hideki as the 'sensor' ANBU would walk towards the boy. "I suspect that too. Any information that can be shared would be appreciated. Though, do please note that we don't even have much information on how the members of the organisation this Meilin is trained," Harumi said as she glanced at the other ANBU. In a more or less 'neutral' fashion - lacking any rude or harshness - he picked up Ezuri and would walk to the edge of the rooftop. "That having said, I would advise to remain cautious as I can't promise that we will get anymore result than if you try to reach out yourself." Turning silent, she would wait as the other two ANBU would, however, get going - descending from the rooftop and moving out of sight from the three.

Hideki languidly watched the ANBU approach, remaining stationary, arms still crossed. Speaking with ANBU was as perfunctory as it got; put him in the mind of hospitals, with the sterile smell of disinfectants and glaring white robes moving around in almost spectral procession. Still, there was something 'no-frills' about it that he appreciated. He waited for someone to speak or act.

"Very well, we have an agreement. Meet me at this address in an hour from now, I'll have our information." Kensuke said and began turning around, but stopped. "Be careful though. We have been ambushed yesterday night by a creature with impressive abilities. Hideki can tell you more about them, he could see through their false appearance."

This new information made Harumi remain silent as she pondered about it. "Expect one of my members to come and pick up the information. If you wish to contact me directly, then I will use the earphone communicator at 11:30 PM once every two days on Channel A. Following up with the next day, switching it to C and then back to B. I will change the time and channel every once in a while, but expect a message about that if that is going to be the case. If that is all..." Harumi's voice trailed off as she already half turned around.

"That'll be all. Good luck." Kensuke said, and waved her goodbye with a faint smile, wondering how she'd react to it. Even though the ANBU on his trainings always wore their masks, his dojutsu allowed him to recognise them by their unique body language. He didn't know any of the ANBU he saw today though, but he hoped that they were still human enough to smile.

A curt nod was returned upon Kensuke wishing them good luck. "Good day." She said with the same neutral tone. Hideki gained the same curt nod before Harumi would turn fully away from them and seem to drop herself from the edge of the rooftop - almost as if she had some suicidal wish that she wanted to fulfill to just walk from the rooftop. Deciding to first see what she and her ANBU could discover from the Hyuuga, Harumi already started to consider the various methods that they were 'allowed' to conduct on the missing-nin.

A collab between Gerontis and Jason

Summary: Mizuchi goes to deliver her report to the commander about what happened during the attack at the village, and what she noticed about the odd being acting as a "leader" of the hostile force.

It just didn't stop, much to Satoshi's chagrin. The reports were quite similar, but he would later on request that some protocols would change. The amount of debriefing and reports were staggering and while everything seemed to be going well, the situation was quite the opposite from it. There were a lot of hostile contacts and they had little to no intel who the hostiles were serving or what their goal was. Some might complain that knowing such matters was trivial, but Satoshi disagreed. Once you know what your opponent has as goal, you can try to work against that foe. Else? You'll be flailing around in the dark and never be able to be one step ahead of your enemy. Something Satoshi did want as that would make his life - and those serving him - easier than what it was right now

Rubbing his forehead the commander of the force did, however, gain a message from an approaching force. The Republic of the Water country had send forth an army of three thousand soldiers. It was at least something, he grumbled as he had hoped for a bit more. Letting a messager with a small escort head towards the Republican army, to meet and regroup with them, Satoshi was soon occupied with something else. The debriefing of a sensor nin that had served along side the group of the two 'Slayers'. Hoping that it wouldn't be a repeative report as he would then just start to imagine how he would flog everybody that would just rob his time with listening and reading reports that were just telling him the same thing, he would state he would receive this sensor now. Pouring some water in a mug a sigh escaped the man.

Entering the tent shortly after being told that the commander would see her, Mizuchi looked at the man before stopping to give the man a salute. "Commander, Mizuchi Hojo reporting in as requested." she said then would fall silent once more, waiting to see why it is that she was summoned today. Remaining at attention and holding her salute until was returned, the girl had to resist the urge to scratch at the newfound scar stretching across her face.

The man took a sip of his mug while the Hojo entered the space. Nodding as he wasn't much in a mood to follow the formalities that were expected of him, the man lowered his mug. "So, you had a report?" Satoshi asked, hiding the irritation of just hearing out another report. It was bad enough that he couldn't lead men and women on his own outside of a tent, but it was getting to him that he was now just tied to a place and not being able to hear anything else than reports of missions and people he dispatched on them.

Nodding, Mizuchi dropped her salute and relaxed only the slightest. "Yes sir. I'll skip the majority of it, as I am sure you've heard plenty about the enemy numbers and whatever that... thing was. To spare you the unnessecary details, it is of my belief that the enemy is capable of completely concealing their chakra. Shortly after we had arrived, I went with the group of shinobi investigating the town, where I set up my sensory technique. Unfortunately, though I could confirm the technique to be working properly, I was completely unable to detect anything hostile around the village we had been sent to investigate. Furthermore, when the enemy revealed themselves I was still completely unable to pick up any sort of chakra signals. It wasn't until whatever the thing that seemed to be their leader showed up that I particularly sensed some sort of chakra." she said immdiately, skipping to the parts that would be unique to her knowledge. Waiting a few moments she added in something else that had been nagging at her since. "Also, sir, the nature of the attack seemed to be more like an ambush than anything else. They knew we were coming." she said, waiting to hear what the commander had to say.

Listening to the report the mood of the commander wasn't really improving. Of course, it was something else. That was for sure. So the enemy managed to conceal their chakra signatures? Not a tactic that was outragesly unknown. But it wasn't what just normal forces were capable and trained at. The rest of the report seemed normal, though Satoshi frowned as the chuunin started to say that the 'leader' was off with the chakra nature. His irritation came back as she stated her own small theory. It was perhaps starting to get common with youngling and those who were a tad green behind the ear to state their own comments and theories. As if he couldn't muster the idea that this wasn't an ambush. "Seems so," he just answered. "Thank you for the report. If that is all, you're dismissed for now." Satoshi said as he took another sip of his water. He didn't much care if she hadn't been able to sense the enemy creeping on them as it had happened and there wasn't anything anybody could change on what had happened yesterday. He had to consider how to avoid it next time, that was more important.

Nodding, the girl had one more thing of note she figured that the commander would like to know. "Sir, there is one more thing. The enemy leader that was defeated. From what I noticed, its chakra was... odd. It was as if it were decaying, yet somehow still kept alive. When it first arrived in the battle, I sensed for a second the chakra of a normal human. Then it began to rot and decay as it sent out waves of... I'm not even sure what to call it. It felt cold, and seemed to target the resolve and will of our forces, including myself." she reported, trying to word what she had seen in the thing's chakra as best she could.

Satoshi's right eyebrow perked up as he listened to this odd report. He couldn't remember hearing ever learning or somebody mentioning that a chakra signature was this odd. Certainly not being decaying and he considered himself as a competent sensor nin. "Ah, I see. Well then, right now the armour and the weaponry of this 'leader' is being investigated." Thinking for a moment longer, Satoshi threw another glance at the chuunin. "Thank you for the report. If that was all then you're dismissed, soldier." The man told her, already dreading the next report or debriefing.

"Yes sir, I hope the information I was able to provide proves to be of some benefit." the girl said before giving another salute. Then she turned on a heel and began heading back out of the tent. Wondering to herself briefly just what the hell she had seen during the attack.

Encounter with the Uchiha on the training field!
A collaberation between Conman2163 and Guppie.

Kona Omari and Ryu Uchiha have a chance encounter on the Amegekure training fields, where they have a small conversation. Afterwards, they head off to a ramen shop to get a bite to eat, and to catch Ryu up on the events of the post office.

Kona once again concentrated, the target she was aiming for in her sight, and she let the kunai fly again. The weapon soared over the training dummy and buried itself into a tree. Her hands were shaking, the thoughts of the woman she had killed clouding her head and messing up her usually near perfect aim.

Still...... this..... still?

Kona had been released a few hours earlier, the reason cited simply a lack of evidence. Something that didn't make sense, but not something she was going to fight either. After all, if they didn't want to keep her in a cell that was fine. She'd roll with it. It was out of pure boredom that she wandered over to the training fields to practice, and had discovered that she seemed unable to hit her target at all now.

Kona drew another kunai knife from her ninja tool pouch, prepared to throw it, lifting it up and taking aim, only to realize as she did so that her hand was shaking.

This is ridiculous.

Kona placed the weapon in her ninja tool pouch and went to collect the other kunai. Ten times she had thrown the projectiles and ten times she had missed, the kunai either going wild, or skimming by the target.

Picking up the kunai that had landed in the ground, Ryu looked in the direction it had come from; a concerened expression on her face. Making her way that direction, Ryu looked over at the other girl and held up the kunai. "This yours?" she said in a friendly tone. "Might want to keep an eye out where you're throwing these. Gave me quiet the scare when it came out of nowhere." she said, staring at her with a blank expression.

Kona turned, a furious expression, only to be greeted by an older girl with a blank expression and an eye patch, not to mention scars from some injury or another. She blinked for a moment, before realizing she was still angry and grabbing the weapon.

"It wasn't like I meant to miss my target. Dammit. Hmphf."

Kona shoved the tool into her weapon pouch, struggling with it for a moment, then turning to look at the girl, and after taking a deep breath in, spoke.

"So then, who are you? Thanks for grabbing my kunai by the way."

"Sorry if I upset you! I hadn't meant to offend. I'm Ryu Uchiha, who are you?" she asked with a small shrug as she leaned against a nearby tree. A moment later, a low growl could be heard before a panther hopped down from a tree and gave Ryu a look. After a small giggle, she gestured towards the feline and said "and this is Naomi. She gets upset if I don't introduce her to people." she explained.

"Huh? Oh yeah.... that.... you didn't offend me. I'm Kona Omari."

Kona was surprised by the girl's casual manner as she leaned against the tree. Kona surprise was doubled by the sudden appearance of a panther out of a nearby tree. Apparently the girl had given it a name. Naomi.

Upset? Yeah, a giant panther getting upset because it wasn't introduced to someone. That is something I want to avoid.

In reality, the panther was actually quite small. Almost undoubtedly a young one. However, Kona had never met a panther before, or any large predatory feline, so to her it was "giant". Kona gave a slightly awkward smile and nodded towards the panther. The large feline seemed very friendly with Ryu, and not only that, but Ryu had released a small giggle upon revealing not introducing the panther would have made it upset.

What the hell would have happened if she had forgotten to introduce Naomi?

Kona let out a small laugh as she realized the absurdity of the situation.

"A panther and two kunoichi meet in the woods. Now that sounds like the foundation for a semi terrible joke."

"Does it? I suppose. Maybe. I haven't seen you around here before Kona, did you just graduate or something?" she asked in a polite and friendly manner. Admittedly a little bit curious about the other. A kind smile adorning her lips.

"Yeah, i'll have to make something of it later."

Upon being asked if she had just graduated, Kona shook her head, a small smirk touched her lips as she thought of the joke.

"Not really, I graduated last year, i've just only been recently assigned a team though, so I guess it isn't that hard to miss me."

Kona laughed a little bit, before the realization finally rolled around and hit her.

"Uchiha huh? My step parents were Uchihas. They never really told me much about them though."

"Oh? That is interesting." she said, not particularly bothering to explain further about her own heritage. "Ah. Well. I've been on a team for bit but have been in the hospital for various reasons quite a bit recently"

"Oh? You've been in the hospital huh? What for?"

Kona's eyes sparkled with curiosity.

Looking away, the girl briefly lost her composure and her face betrayed a hint of terrible pain before she forced herself to be calm again. "Ah... just being sick and various reasons" she said, flashing a false smile.

Kona spotted the pain instantly. She knew that look, she'd seen it every day she had looked in the mirror after she had lost her step parents..... The pain and suffering of losing someone or something dear to you. For a moment, Kona turned her thoughts towards her own pain, her own grief, her own past. She replied softly.

"If you plan to lie, at least ensure you do it with a straight face."

"Wasn't lying. Sick and various reasons." Ryu said, immediately shutting her emotions back to try to defend herself from this girl. Ryu didn't know Kona, and so Kona wasn't allowed to know her hell. She couldn't burden others with her pain.

Kona turned to the girl, the pain, the hate, the misery and loneliness that Kona felt evidenced by her facial expressions as she looked at Ryu. Unlike the Uchiha, Kona had no problems showing her emotions in front of a stranger. She had to be okay with it, it was the only way she ever got to vent. She didn't have friends who cared, hell, her teammate and sensei she didn't even get along with.

"Right, not lying, and yet you have the look..... Whatever......"

Kona shook her head, let the emotions drop from her face. The Uchiha was hurting from something, and it wasn't physical, that was clear.

"Leave it alone, got it? It's not important." the girl said simply, not particularly keen on continuing said conversation.

"Right.... fine...."

Kona said the words in little more then a murmur, before turning away. The situation had suddenly become awkward. More then just a little bit as well. Kona said no more.

Feeling a little bit bad after seemingly upsetting the other girl, Ryu scratched the back of her neck nervously. "Uhm. Sorry. It's just, not something I like to share with people I don't really know." she girl said softly, hoping that Kona would no longer be upset with her.

"You can't drop your guard then, otherwise you invite others to your misery party.... That's how it works..... Look, I don't know you, you don't know me, we are perfect strangers..... but you should know that i've had my own taste of hell too..... Tucking it up inside doesn't help anyone, and it only hurts you. I'm not saying that you need to share shit with me. But still..... fine, i'll leave it alone. Besides, I was just about to go get something to eat anyway. Do you and your panther care to join me?"

Kona cocked her head to the side, curious to hear the Uchiha's answer.

"We will come, just let me pick up my stuff real quick." Ryu said quickly then spun on a heel, heading over to where she had been; her stomach grumbling as she walked. "I really should've brought some snacks today..." she mumbled before heading back to Kona. "Hopefully somewhere cheap, I don't have much money."

Kona nodded, glad the girl had taken her up on the offer.

"I can handle the bill, don't worry about it. How does ramen sound? I happen to love a good pork ramen, and I could really go for one right now. Besides, I know a cheap place in town."

The Uchiha couldn't agree more with the sentiment. Ramen sounded amazing right now, but then again... she knew she was very food oriented. Hence why she always stopped by the bakery... at least when she was allowed to do so. Without thinking, Ryu let slip a thought that crossed her mind. "That's if the owner let's Shinobi be there anymore..."

"Huh? Oh yeah..... that might be a problem......"

Kona's thoughts flashed briefly to the woman, dead on the street, before she buried the thought.

"Hmm...... after what I did at the post office, something tells me I won't be welcome at food places like that for a bit...... I suppose it's sub par, but I have instant ramen at home, and I think I have some leftover pork in my fridge. I could fix it up pretty quickly, if you don't mind coming to a stranger's house after all...."

Kona once again reguarded the girl with curiosity.

"I'm sure it'll be fine. Besides, I'd rather not go to a strangers house. My apologies. But... what do you mean by what you did at the post office? My sensei told me it was just a fire... did something else happen? Is that why the baker yelled at me this morning?" she said quickly, studying the girl carefully.

Kona looked at the girl, cocked her head to the side, and shook her head once again.

"Hmmm...... i'll give you the low down once we get food, I don't want to discuss this on an empty stomach."

Kona shrugged.

"Still, you want to try it anyways, that's fine, it's near the market, shouldn't take too long."

Without any further words, Kona began walking towards the ramen shop.

Nodding, Ryu followed after the other girl. She was a little curious about what Kona had to say, and hungry. Otherwise the Uchiha likely wouldn't have followed a girl she didn't exactly know. Looking at the girl with a curious expression, Ryu spoke. "So you know something about what happened?" she said as two made their way to the Ramen shop. Admittedly curious what it was that she would soon learn...

It was stupid.

She was sure of it. It was just stupid to concern herself this much with the idea that Koike was a chakra drainer. A leech. The negative stories about people who had a natural ability to absorb chakra were plenty to be found and the dread as fear for them wasn't just made up. The idea of a person draining your chakra with a technique was already bad, but the idea of a person being able to do that without much of a technique was far more dangerous. The reason for that was also not that hard to fathom : The chakra use for such an ability isn't a trouble and there was a common belief that if somebody would suck out all your chakra that they would also be able to steal your soul. Not a pretty idea that many considered great.

Though she had a great amount of faith in the young man as her pride didn't allow her to consider him to be some helpless cub that would need her guidance and advice all the time, it wasn't that easy to just let Koike deal with it himself. But what else could she do about it?

A sigh escaped Aiko as she lowered her head. Raindrops kept falling on the coat that protected her against the gloomy weather. Pushing herself to focus on the mission, she hoped that the group that would follow her today wouldn't be too late. Their task was in theory quite simple : Investigate the post office location and see what they could learn. Perhaps there was something to it that they were missing? A detail that could help them to understand why that location had been chosen. The woman was already certain that the police corps had already checked out for any possible chakra traces and such to find missing culprits or anybody that had managed to escape, with the use of ninjutsu.

Waiting on top of a rooftop that had been designated as a reliable meeting and vantage point, Aiko kept herself standing in the shadow. Out of view of the street, she hoped for those participating on team Aikia wouldn't draw too much attention and remain in a low profile - not thus hopping and moving around to clarify to anybody who was observant enough that they are shinobi.

A collab between Ice, Little Alice and Roran Hawkins
Keishi
Konohagakure Team 7

Summary:
Nothing happens — pretty much — but it's short.
The bar quickly filled with people as the night shift ended, making sure that despite the early hour the establishment was nearly full. It was easy for the tall blond man dressed in his working clothes to intermingle unnoticed together with his one-eyed companion. They sat at a table against the wall and placed their belongings on the table as they ordered food and drinks. Kensuke yawned after a night mostly spent awake and observed the crowd. He fancied trying to spot the ANBU operative before he would find them, but he knew it was not that easy.

"I gave it some thought. I think I know how I could learn you killing intent." Kensuke said. "It won't be easy though."

Elbows resting on the table, Hideki looked across at Kensuke. He made a small nod to the second remark, which loosely translated to 'I suspected as much', and took a bite of his food as he waited for his commander to elucidate, chewing absently.

"Essentially you'll have to learn the signs you'll have to reproduce. I'm sure you already know some, but it needs to be perfect in order to work. The best way to learn it, is to experience it." Kensuke revealed. "We'll begin once we have enough time, and the right place for it."

"Yes, sir," Hideki replied, wondering at the degree of 'experience' Kensuke was alluding to — likely not a healthy amount. "On another note, I hope the woman-ANBU didn't have her eyes clawed out in the process of retrieving her — Meilin, that is, " he said with a sardonic scoff.

"I doubt they will try actually catching her. I think they'll just relay her a message she'll have a hard time ignoring. Hopefully she'll act on it and meet with us." Kensuke spoke his thoughts. Or rather, his hopes. If the ANBU had misinterpretted him, they'd bring him Meilin bound and gagged. Not really the ideal basis for trust.

If she isn't dead already, Hideki thought, somewhat morbidly. There was no telling what might have happened if she indeed encountered the creature. Hideki's survival might even have been a fluke. But the next time won't... Finishing up his plate, Hideki leaned back in his seat and gauged the other customers, deciding again to keep his Byakugan under locks. He didn't know if the creature had the capacity for sensing, but it was not a risk he was willing to take as of the present. He'd been on edge ever since that dreadful encounter.

Entering the bar the person seemed to not be much interested in the patrons of the established, instead deciding to sit down. Sitting next to a tall blonde man, the woman had her raven-coloured hair loose as it reached to her shoulders. Ordering a pint she wouldn't glance even sideways to the tall blonde next to her. "I had expected you to pick something more private." The woman stated on a hushed tone, but audible enough for the Nimatsu to hear her. "Unless you got the information written down?"

Hideki eyed the woman on Kensuke's side somewhat brazenly. It was a most curious and strange feeling to see an ANBU unmasked — reminded you they were human, beneath all that cold demeanour and machine-like organization. He picked up on her whisper. "Speaking on Kensuke-san's behalf, I can assure you this is the safer option — with the creature loose in the city, anyway. And what's life without a little excitement?" He expected the jest to be lost on the woman.

"The public is our safety, because our enemy hasn't dared to act openly, yet. Given the noise, it'll be very hard to overhear us too." Kensuke fished some beef out of his udon soup and smiled at the woman and presented her with a nondescript file, filled with the results of their investigation so far. "You'll find everything we gathered in here, along with some marked maps with our suspicions of where the next group is hiding." He said softly as if replying to Hideki's joke.

As the barkeeper came back and gave her a pint, the woman just nodded as she would turn her attention back to the two others. "Reasonable." She just stated, indeed as Hideki had anticipated, not reacting much to the jest. There wasn't even a sign of a feigned smile on the blank expression of the woman. As Kensuke presented her with the file she accepted it and shoved it away in her pocket. "Good. We've not yet heard any response from your 'friend'," the emphasis making it hopefully clear on who she meant, "If that is all..." Her voice trailing off as she would take a sip of her drink.

"No?" Hideki withdrew his elbows and resigned in his seat, disappointed. He rubbed his eye tiredly with his bandaged hand. Were they in for another sleepless night?

"This creature we have faced, have there been other sighting of a similar creature? We've been disconnected from standard intel for a while now, and I don't know anything that fits its abilities. Safe for a bakeneko perhaps." Kensuke asked the ANBU operative.

"No." The woman said, but after she took another pint, she continued. "Though, we've found her a trace of her chakra signature. Which led to a dead.. end. Not sure what that friend of yours is doing, but she is clearly not being happy about something." The ANBU threw a sideways glance that Nimatsu as asked a question. "Sorry, but no such foe is known to us either. Either you few had to deal with a strong leech or just had some bad luck." Shrugging lightly as if she didn't care, the woman took this time a swig of her pint.

"She — it — was both those things," Hideki remarked, his demeanor once more wretched and disconsolate. Returning his gaze to the customers, he habitually scanned for any abnormalities among the jovial guffaws, hushed whispers, and shaggy, pubic beards of aged grubbers. "Have you brought us anything?"

"Other than that sniper of information? No." The woman replied. "Now, I have to go and get some of my own work done. Enjoy the evening." The woman said as she would empty her drink. Placing down some money for the bartender she would get up and start to walk away, her mind already set on the next steps that she and her ANBU had to take to advance the plans.

[fieldbox=Hiraku Hyuuga]
Hiraku pulled the hood of his jacket over his face, looking more to the ground and using that to guide him, only glancing up briefly to ensure he was going the right way. As he hadn't brought a good way to hide his eyes with him, he had resorted to keeping his head low in the hopes he would just look depressed, especially with this weather that most considered depressing on its own. He walked through the streets like this, heading towards where they were intended to meet.

Hiraku listened to the almost rhythmic pounding of rain on his hood as he got closer. He knew he would have to hear it for a while, so he tried to get used to it. He shivered a bit as he got closer. The rain and the cold coupled with his small stature and lower muscle-mass left him with little defense against the cold weather. He glanced up quickly to see in front of him again, only to see a figure standing, as well as another figure dropping down next to him.

Hiraku briefly feared the one dropping down was hostile, until they seemed to speak up. He heard something about the rain and cold, and another thing about a sensei, but he thought he should leave that part be. "Yeah... It's a bit cold out here. Maybe we could go inside for the talk?" He gave a quick smile, raising his face and hood enough to see the two and show said smile.

[fieldbox=Shin Yuki]
Shin raised an eyebrow, glancing to Nami as she spoke up about her suggestion for a plan. "Yeah, that sounds good, I guess." He thought for a second, looking in the direction of the workers carrying the bigger box, "Well, if you're so perceptive, any chance you can find us a big box, not that big, but big enough to need a couple people?" He pointed at the box being carried when saying 'not that big'. "They probably won't care as much if it looks like we're working hard, so when we come back for the second round they'll already know our new faces as hard workers, and won't worry as much about whether they've seen us before."

[fieldbox=Johnathon Housha]
John sighed as he walked around the village. He needed to find a place to stay. He looked to the direction of Eiji's house, smirking, He wouldn't mind the best student he's ever had showing up, would he? His smirk faded as he thought about it again, If I stay with him, I'll probably bother Ryu and make it so she can't get any of her stuff done... We could train together, but she needs to practice to be a medical nin, and I just know how to use chakra for it. He breathed in slowly before letting out a quick exhale, nodding to himself. "Alright... Time to go apartment searching. I'll just find the best place to stay, and they'll let me stay for cheap because I'm so awesome!"

John stepped out of the building, crossing his arms, "Yeah, well, you not knowing that I'm the greatest would annoy me too much to stay there..." He spoke to himself, not having felt the need to say something like that to the guy who was just trying to make a profit. "Alright, well after one was too expensive, one was too run-down, and this one didn't want to hear how awesome I am, I guess I'll just have to find a relatively okay one, and make it the best by my presence." He nodded once more, before setting off to find the next apartment building. I'll act like Ryu's there this time, as little about my greatness as I can.

Tomiko | Konohagakure Team 2 Genin | Amegakure

--Credit and many thanks to GlassTrinity!--

Making her way through the streets, Tomiko made an effort to keep her gaze lowered in the hopes of not having attention drawn towards her. The small girl figured that it wouldn't be terribly appreciated if attention was drawn to herself on the way to meeting point for another mission. Not to mention... there was always the chance that the man from the other day could come back, and she certainly wasn't looking forward to running into him again. Once the girl spotted the building that was to be the meeting point, she took a moment to look around and figure how she was to get up there without drawing too much attention. The solution was easy enough, and the girl began heading towards it. As she walked, Tomiko softly hummed a birthday song to herself. Seeing as she apparently had turned 15 today; a fact she wouldn't have known were it not for Hiraku having reminded her that morning.

As she arrived on the roof, the girl studied the small piece of cloth clutched in her right hand. A blindfold, since she'd be able to see with it on anyways and would help her conceal herself. Seeing as Koike had deemed the idea good enough, Tomiko decided to get a piece of cloth for herself. She adjusted the small poncho and pulled the hood up. Deciding she didn't want to get her hair wet anymore, then took a small breath before approaching the other woman on the rooftop. Keeping her arms under the poncho so that her wrist-bow was easily concealed, she paused just a little bit away from Aiko. She stood silently for a few moments before speaking up in a soft tone.

"Goodmorning, Ma'am. Tomiko reporting in for the mission."[/hr][/fieldbox]

[fieldbox="Sho Deshuga, lightblue"]
Team Who? Chuunin | At the Police Office

Sho had resorted to actively punching the wall. Of course he had done that before in the confinements of his home, in his own room, with the door shut. Now, however, he was doing it in the police cell. Not something he particullary liked, but he liked to believe that the police was forcing his hands. It was all their fault. Everything. He didn't know how exactly, but it was.

The cell was driving him nuts. Or rather, the neckband was. He thought it would be easy, being here for a night. It was not like he hadn't spent the night away from home before. He wasn't some homesick freak who couldn't do without his mommy for a night or two. Actually he preferred it when he didn't have to sleep in the same house as her though unfortunately he was stuck with that. But the neckband was annoying. No, it was more than annoying. It was painful. Not in the literal sense of pain, because that was the thing that Sho could handle. Physical pain was easy to shrug off. Received a punch? Clench your teeth and punch the guy back. Got kicked in the shin? Walk it off and kick back harder. Problem was that with this neckband it didn't work that way. There was nothing to kick back at. There was no physical harm being inflicted on him rather it was a feeling of loss, of something that was missing, that was causing him so much discomfort.

The wounds on his back also didn't really help, but they had a medical nin drop in again on the first night and that made it a lot better. Actually the wound was helping him forget that he was being suffocated. Everytime he moved to lie differently on the stiff bed that they had so graciously provided for him it hurt and he found himself almost morbidly enjoying it. For a moment then he would hiss and wiggle around a bit more to find a new comfortable spot, thus forgotting the numbness that was taking over his body with every passing second.

Who knew that being cut off from chakra was such a intens feeling. Not that he would ever admit that to anyone of course, though figuring that he was punching a wall they might have figured it out by now.

His hand hurt. He was sitting straight on his bed facing the wall, his left hand resting against the hard stone. He knew his knuckles were bleeding ever so slightly, scraped raw by the endless punching. He had to get his mind of things. Last night, in the rare moments that he did fall asleep, the events at the post office had replayed in his head. The man in the water prison. No, the monster in the water prison. But in Sho's dream he had become that monster trapped in water ready to be fried by a man standing on the other side. It frightened him to think that he had been doing exactly what his father had wanted to do to him all those years ago. It was something he had never forgotten. It was something that scared him and he didn't like things that scared him. Sho hated to be scared, hated it so much. Being scared was a weakness. It made your resolve slacken, your muscles weak. It made you freeze in place, unable to fight. Being scared was the worst thing that could happen to someone, because in a fight it would inevitably lead to death.

So when he woke up from that dream (it was not a nightmare, he refused to call it a nightmare because only weak and easily scared people got nightmares), he had resorted to punching the wall. Again. Again. Again. Again. Until the pain in his knuckles erased the thoughts of the dream and made him forget for a moment longer that he could hardly breath because of the neckband.

Then he started pacing. Back and forth. When would they let him out? was the thought that crossed his mind. He had not considered that he didn't want to stay her, but now that he actively thought about it, he really didn't want to stay her a minute longer.

His hands were shaking and he found himself pulling on the collar on his neck. He stopped when he realized it, forcing his hands back down, but they eventually found their way up again.

He hated this place. He hated this situation. He hated not knowing what exactly happened. He hated feeling like he had copied his father and he hated this goddamn neckband.

With a yell of frustration Sho went back to punching the wall when suddenly the door behind him opened and an officer stepped in to tell him that he was free to go. Almost stunned Sho stared at him. He was free to go? Just like that? He knew he had told that stupid officier - what was his name again? Juju? - the full truth, but he didn't think the man did actually believe him. Why would he? Upon asking why he was released, the officer told him that there was a 'lack of evidence to hold him here', whatever the fuck that meant. In Sho's eyes there was ample evidence to keep him here, he had nearly murdered one for godssake. But apparently that wasn't the case anymore and Sho wasn't one to complain. They took him out of the cell, took off that awful awful neckband and pushed him out of the station.

He had only spent one night in confinement and yet when he stepped out on the street again he felt strange as if he had been away for a year. He wrapped his red scarf tighter around his neck, hiding his nose in the fabrick, pushing his hands in his pockets and started walking.

It was time to go home. Wherever that was.

Kazumo Sarutobi -Team 8 Genin

Being briefed by Koike that unlike the patrols and scouting missions they did yesterday, today would be a bit more difficult which motivated Kazumo to bring a little extra tools with him this time around. Alas he still couldn't bring his bow which he understood why but god damn did it ever raise his nerves. So far the statement of him finding trouble whenever he never had his bow kept turning out to be true. Sure enough yesterday he found a murder. Well he should count himself lucky that was all he found. He very well could have found a murder and the murderer. So he took a few extra senbon a kunai and his numbing agent and the Chonobi Bomb. Hopefully none of that would be needed though.

When he was all prepared and suited he took outside to be meet by the rain but also a chilling feeling. Now normally he liked the rain, but when combined with the winter air, it was more of an annoyance than anything he really liked. Well it still wasn't that bad and through the rain and wind he headed towards the meeting point he found yesterday, to which he expected some complaints about nothing better. Yet when you have limited area one should be happy he found a meeting place with a roof at least, but he found it easy enough since he was the one to find it after all. he found that he wasn't the first nor second to arrive. Katsu and Hiarku had both got here before him and were asking Koike if they could go inside as it was cold outside.

He waved towards Koike but otherwise made no other greeting. "You know, its just as cold and a bit wet inside as it is outside...." Kazumo said to the two, just so they didn't get their hopes up about a magical warm land that the abandoned house would most certainly not provide them with.[/fieldbox]

[fieldbox="When you need a job done, royalblue, solid"]

Listening to Nami's idea was good and she agreed on using it, but she wasn't so sure on something. Perceptive is one thing but how was she going to notify them of whatever she sees when they don't have communicators? Shin seemingly didn't spot the problem but was suggesting she use her perspective skills to find them a big box they can both carry. "Umm if I can pose a new question, how are you going to relay any new information to us? Would you use a transformation jutsu disguised as a worker and head on over to us? Just my own question as we don't have communicators and shouting out to each other won't go well. Also freezy we don't really need a big box. All we need is a box we can carry to get in and out, they might grow suspicious if we are wasting our time carrying only two people required boxes. Oh well I'm sure you will think of something sis." Aya would say as she observed the workers and moved behind a huge box and would do a few handseals and would transform into a much bigger male about six feet tall and would be sporting medium length black hair as it went down to the bottom of his neck and a scraggly beard. He pretty much had the look of one that didn't care about his job.

"Well lets get to work." Aya said as she walked on over to where all the crates were and would select a medium sized one. Grabbing it she would hoist it up and make a bit of a grunting sound. Geesh the amount of things you can fit in these crates. Only about fifty pounds. Im sure Freezy wont have any trouble. With the box in hand she would carry it to the warehouse entrance she wouldn't look at the guards as she moved closer to the entrance and although she felt their gaze she walked right past them and inside. Smiling inside she would continue to move noting that it would be slightly harder with workers and guards inside not wondering what the hell you were doing. Yet she found a spot free from guards and workers and set her box down. She quickly opened up about two or three around her and found nothing of shocking value. Just trade items and some paper.

She would head back towards the exit to not draw suspicion to herself and once outside would head to the next crate to bring inside. Hopefully Yuuki wasn't having any trouble with this, he was a guy so he shouldn't be having no trouble with this. If she can carry them so can he.[/fieldbox]

[fieldbox=Atsuko Uragiri | Kirigakure Team 2 , grey]

Atsuko knelt over a man on the ground, his knee on his back, pinning him to the ground. He tightened the knot around the man's wrists and one pinning the man's ankles together just above his bare feet and struck the back of the man's head. The man's weapons lay on the ground, scattered. There were three bodies outside of the tents, each with deep wounds. The mission had gone well, seeing what they had to deal with. He hadn't expected enemies of this caliber to appear, but in the end, everyone was able to hold their own even during an ambush like that.

He gathered everyone around and weaved a series of hansignals before slamming his hands on the ground. Black markings dispersed around them, forming a circle, and everyone inside disappeared. They reappeared in Kirigakure, in a small building. He got up and looked at his team. "You did well. Get some rest," he said and picked up the unconscious body. Later, Atsuko dropped off the surviving attacker and giving his report, Atsuko returned home.

Panda meets Panther
Collab between Ice and Jason

Rubbing against the strain of his eyes — the result of using his Dojutsu for times on end — Toru sat on a stool in the Dango Shop near the hospital he worked part-time, absently watching the rain outside the window. Sitting on its haunches, his panda — finally allowed inside the shop after Toru essentially became a regular — whimpered beside him, eyeing the plate of dango on the table with near rapacity in his dark glittering eyes. "Ah, yes, yes. I'm sorry," Toru mumbled, plucking a piece of blue Dango and tossing it in the panda's wide-open maw — gone as soon as it had entered...

This was the third day Toru had spent at the hospital, assisting in mainly surgery, as he was currently on his own — without a team and Jounin. Using his Dojutsu so much, he was starting to worry about his eyesight. Things are already looking fuzzy... As he fed the panda another dango, he found himself back staring out the window, contemplating the rain for perhaps the millionth time this year. Ah.. how it would be nice to do some travelling...

Entering the Dango Shop, Ryu grumbled to herself about wanting to get something to eat as she looked around for a free place to sit. Almost immditately, Ryu noticed the panda just sitting there as her eye went wide. She then noticed the boy sitting next to the panda, and was a bit confused for a second. When the hell did Toru become friends with a Panda? She thought to herself as she slowly approached. "Toru? Fancy running into you here. Who's ah... who's your friend? They're adorable." she said with a small smile. Only to immdiately hear a whine from next to her, as she looked at Naomi briefly. "Yes, you're adorable as well. Relax, silly." she said quickly to the feline.

Surprised, Toru looked up into Ryu's face, recognition slowly dawning on his features. In the back of his mind, images from their first meeting returned to him — in rather gruesome fashion. The taste of iron seemed to surface in his mouth. "Ah, Ryu— My friend? Oh, Him. Well, he's..." Glancing at his panda, which had yet to remove its gaze from the plate of dango, he wasn't sure how to introduce nor describe it. "It's, well, uhm... A clan pet, you might call him — I guess. We've all got one." He smiled, somewhat apologetic and embarrassed by the state of his 'pet', then gestured to the seat in front of him. "Please have a seat, if it's not too much trouble..."

"He's so adorable..." she said softly as she moved over to sit in the seat he was gesturing towards. Naomi following along beside her human and deciding to plop herself down on the floor. Right where the girl had been trying to put her feet. "So your clan all have a panda? That's really cool! I bet they're all adorable and amazing!" she said in her usual upbeat tone.

Eyeing the panther, with a slightly nervous look, Toru eventually shook his head lightly and returned his attention to Ryu. "I suppose so, but they're all insatiable eaters... Especially mine." He tossed another dango to the panda, then offered the rest to Ryu and her panther. Studying the former, his gaze lingered on her missing eye. It was in a far better state than when she'd been brought in — to say the least. "How are you handling it?" His voice become more sombre, more professional and clinical, a slight frown creasing between his brow. "The eye, I mean — depth perception and such. It was a nasty thing..."

Naomi poked her head up whenever she heard the sounds of food being offered. "Naomi, these aren't good for you. You'll get fat." she said to the panther, who responded by slapping a large paw onto Ryu's leg and putting on a begging face. "That is cheating, and you know it." she said to the panther then returned her attention to Toru. "There isn't a need to offer me your food. Really, you paid for it. Enjoy it. Although... is he allowed some?" she asked and pointed towards the panda. Then the girl thought about his question and looked visibly sadder, her mood dying as she thought about those times. "All of it was nasty. But... I am adapting. My depth perception is shot, but I am working on how to handle it. I don't feel the flashes of pain anymore in the eye. My sharingan recation times aren't as hot as they used to be, but I think I can adjust to it... uhm... thank you for being part of the team to help there." she said softly, looking a little embarassed.

Ah... right. Uchiha. Flushing a little, Toru put his hands up in denial. "It's nothing to thank me for; it's my job, after all... But I'm glad you're doing better now... If you ever need any help with it, please call on me." To move the topic into more casual territory, as he'd taken note of her sudden change, he attempted a smile and said, "No, no — it's cheap here, so eat to your heart's content. And yeah, he's allowed some... I even think him being fat is a good thing. At least my father told me so... I never questioned the logic," he continued, glancing at her every once in a while to gauge the mood. Whenever he spoke to people, he was always left with a knot in his gut — as the words themselves were poisonous, simply by virtue of leaving his lips. He'd never been much of a social butterfly.

With a small smile, immdiately the girl grabbed a Dango and looked to the panda and tossed the it to the animal. A glint of joy in her eyes as she watched the panda eat the dango she had tossed. "Is it really good for them to be fat? It is kinda cute!" she said then took one for herself and another for Naomi. "Thank you."

"Well, I'm just reciting the words of my father. Thinking about it closer, the logic seems kinda skewed... He patted the panda on the head, then scratched it behind the ears, making its eyes curl into slits as though a cat being petted. "But him being happy comes before all that — as much of a bother as he can be sometimes. Isn't it the same with.. uhm, Naomi, right?"

"About her being happy? Mhm. As for her being fat... not exactly. She'd be lazy and upset. Then I would have to deal with a lazy and whiny panther. That would be absolutely no fun." she said quickly.

"That's true. And since we're Shinobi — essentially tools of the state — we can't afford the indulgence... In the long run, anyway — even the keenest of blades will grow dull without lack of care, and for us, as humans and animals, a little bit of measured indulgence is beneficial to our well-being. Just can't take it too far... I'm sorry, I'm rambling." He looked down, blushing. He was usually not this talkative. Quite out of character, even in the company of a friend.

"Is something wrong? Why are you blushing?" Ryu blurted out as Toru's demeanor changed suddenly. She immediately regretted the question, feeling it might only make situations more awkward. "S-sorry. That might've been a bit too personal."

"Ah, no," Toru quickly intervened, feeling just as awkward. The panda looked perturbed sitting beside the table, annoyed at the cessation of Dango feeding. "It's just... I'm usually not this talkative... Sorry if it's off-putting." He felt he was only digging his grave deeper, blush reddening.

"Oh! That explains a lot. Well... no need to be embarrassed about it. I don't bite." she said before tossing another Dango to the panda, smiling towards the creature.

The panda settled back down, content and blinking. It peered occasionally at Naomi, curious of the huge black cat. "I know, just being silly." Toru stared out the window, transfixed once more on the steady downfall of droplets. The more he stared, the more it — the rain — seemed like some celestial deluge, as decreed by some terribly sad omnipotent heavenly deity. "Say... coming from Konoha, what do you think of the rain?" he asked, feeling somewhat apologetic for the out-of-the-blueness of the question.

Naomi, was just about as interested in the panda as it was in her. Though she decided to do something about it, and hopped up onto a seat next to the panda, smelling the creature. Then pulling away and looking confused at the other which she has never seen before. Meanwhile, Ryu tilted her head to the side as she looked at Toru. "I actually don't remember Konoha. Didn't live there long enough." she said simply.

"Oh— I'm sorry... I just assumed... you being an Uchiha and all that..."

The girl shook her head in response. "Moved here when I was still a baby. Fun stuff. Can we change subjects?" she asked suddenly, not overly eager to stray anywhere near her family history again. "So... does your panda have a name?"

"Yes, of course," Toru said, attempting another smile to ameliorate the atmosphere. "A name? Ah, not really, no. I can't seem to decide on one... Is that despicable? Names are of some intrinsic value, after all."

"No? Well you should decide on one! Otherwise your panda might get confused if you're among other pandas! Naomi decided on her name, I kept asking her different names until she liked one." she said as the panther turned to look when she heard her name being called.

"I guess so..." Toru scratched the back of his hair, looking at his panda — which was back to eyeing the plate of remaining Dango. "It just feels strange to me... Giving him a name. Like I'm intruding on the natural order of things — universal law or whatever... Sorry, I'm being weird again." This time, however, he managed a genuine smile, amused at the odd sentiment of his words.

"You wouldn't be intruding on the natural order if the panda is agreeing to his name. It is simply giving him something that distinguishes him from the rest! So he knows when you're talking to him, duh." she says in a kind tone before tossing another dango to the panda, and taking one for herself. Much to Naomi's displeasure as the panther tried to steal the dango from Ryu's hand. "No. Naomi we talked about this, we don't steal." she said as the panther grumbled and sat back in her seat.

Toru nodded, weighing some spontaneous options in his mind — none of which really appealed to him. "Yeah, you're right. I'm just getting bogged down in the minutiae. Always overthinking things — that's me... Say, on a different note, have you awakened the... ehm, Sharingan, I think it's called? Ever since we became part of the Empire, I've heard it mentioned a lot. In Shinobi circles, that is."

Ryu made a brief sigh at the question, then closed her eye and slowly opened it again, revealing the tell-tale color scheme of the sharingan. Though she let it return to its normal electric blue a second later. "You tell me she said playfully"

Toru's eyes widened at the mutation of her eye. Fascinated, he leaned a bit forward, but by then her eyes had returned to normal, the tomoe and red gone. "That's fascinating," he said, meaning it. "Seeing it in the flesh is quite a different feeling from hearing about it in tales and gossip. As it happens, I have a Dojutsu of my own, but it's neither imposing nor esthetic... Worse, it strains the eye somewhat terribly."

"My sharingan kind of hurts if I use it for a long time. So I think I kind of understand what you are saying." Ryu said softly as she hummed a little bit to herself before thinking of something. "Hey Toru, have you seen Doctor Tsubaki around lately? He hasn't scheduled any trainings with me recently." she asked.

"I see, but the damage mine brings to the table is quite permanent — regrettably... Tsubaki-san? I believe he's been busy, with all the chaos as of late... You train with him?"

"Then why do you use it? Is not better to save it for only when you need it, and then have it just in case another day? Also, yes, Doctor Tsubaki is teaching me how to become a medical-nin!" she said, her tone changing to a rather upbeat and pleasant tone once more with the second part of her statement.

"Well... I do use it only when it's absolutely necessary," he said, ambiguously, choosing not to elaborate for now. He was pleasantly surprised at her second statement. "Really? Since I stem from medical background myself, if you ever need any advice or tips, I'd be more than happy to oblige."

Ryu nodded, her previous mood changing to be a bit more serious. "I am. Because I don't want others to hurt like me." she said softly, seemingly focusing on somehting else for a moment before looking back at the boy. "For the most part, I get it. It is just a lot of work. He has me learning how to be a medic with and without ninjutsu."

"Mhm. There is a huge amount of factors to consider when it comes to medicine and therapy, aside from the actual healing techniques — which, as it happens, are a dime a dozen on the battlefield anyway. Knowledge is most important, followed by its practical application. Techniques are imperative as well, of course, but some people tend to overlook the benefit of manual operation nowadays. Anyway... I'm thinking of heading home. Been working a full-time shift lately." Regretful as he felt, he was weary down to the fingernails, eyes wincing in dull strain.

"Of course! I wouldn't want to keep you anymore. Besides, you look like you're about to pass out!" she said with a small giggle as she pointed towards the boy and his fatigued expression. A small smile on her lips as she thought about how she might be in his position. "It was really fun getting to talk to you! Along with your panda... though I do think he deserves a name." she said before looking over at Naomi to pet the panther. Then turned her attention back towards Toru.

Another genuine smile on Toru's lips. "I think I might be... And I feel the same, I really enjoyed speaking with you. As for the name, I'll try to figure one out before I see you again — no promises, though." Rousing from his sitting position, and as if he'd figured he was the object of the discussion, the panda gave himself a big shake, wetting Toru with all the little droplets from the rain outside. "Jeez..."

Meilin Cho

Genin of Konoha Team 7,
- Leader of Team Meilin -
Keishi, local market.

Getting close...

It still was troubling her. Placing her right hand on the wound at her side she was sure it had healed up and closed. There was only scar tissue that made it clear where the steel edge had bitten through her clothing, skin and blood. With some help from where she stayed - the Utaka residence - she had managed to fix the damage done to her clothing. It wasn't that pretty as before, but she wouldn't complain about that. There were worse things than a bit of damage done to clothing.
Focusing on her own breathing Meilin considered her actions for today. With the information, she had acquired yesterday she had a new lead to the next information. There were only a few problems she struggled with.
First was that abducting somebody to be interrogated from a busy market wouldn't be easy. She wanted to keep a low profile and remain - as long as she could manage - undetected. And that plan would shatter when she would be seen dragging a man away.
Then there was the fact that she wasn't sure if the others were already trying to search for her. One of the reasons why she was keen on preserving her chakra to not use it for any techniques, which would leave chakra traces. With being this close to another source of information Meilin wouldn't wish to be 'reunited' with Team 7, yet. She briefly thought of Karma, but the teen didn't consider the other as a reliable ally. Deciding to put on her earphone communicator, Meilin wouldn't activate it as she wanted to just listen if Karma would speak up. The last message that she had gotten from her 'team member' had been :

"They are looking for you."

Not that Meilin had responded to that. If anything, she had kept her earphone communicator deactivated from making it clear that she was eavesdropping on the channels now and then. Meilin didn't consider that Kensuke nor Hideki were dumb enough to keep a track of the channels as well, which meant that the message Karma had send could've been intercepted. So far Meilin also knew was that Karma hadn't picked up the note, meaning that communication with her was a big no.

Walking forward Meilin would enter the market. She blended in with the crowd, keeping a sharp watch on her surrounding while feigning interest in the wares that were shown and praised. Fruit, vegetables, bread and other food products were offered to be sold as well being proclaimed to be fresh. Cloth and fabric that were stated to be made from the eastern part of the realm or else imported from the finest sheep wool of the northern lands of the Lightning country. A wide variety of products that had a strong allure for those not home to the district.
Meilin knew better as she continued her stroll. Some of the products were more than likely false while others were what the seller proclaimed them to be. Did anyone, however, say that somebody was lying or selling junk? No. That would attract too much attention and argue against a stand owner as well as accusing them just because you didn't believe them was much more of a drag than just ignore them and continue on.

Just as she walked by a stand that sold boots Meilin came to a slow halt. The words rang through her mind as she kept her eyes locked on a figure.
"It is some guy. At the local market, running a sushi stand. I never got the name, but he has a small moustache and is balding."
Turning her head Meilin kept an eye on the man. He was praising and shouting, probably about the sushi he was trying to sell. The teen's eyes moved her gaze to the small moustache that disgusted her. As she walked around, she noticed that he was balding.

This was the guy. He had to be.

Just before she could consider a plan of approach, Meilin froze.

"We can help you."

Hearing the voice ringing through the earphone communicator, the phrase and voice speaking the words in Chonobi made Meilin blink with her eyes rapidly. Nobody in Team 7 was a member of the three clans that were taught and used the language. So who was this? Keeping a watch of her 'target', Meilin would decide to reply back in Chonobi, saying the reply with on a hushed tone.

"I am listening..."

Harumi Uchiha,

| ANBU | Akinian Empire | Keishi, base of operations.

Harumi patience was running empty. There were two ANBU stalking one of the members of Team 7. The one that responded to the name Karma. She had broken her leg or at least suffered an injury and seemed to be heading back to Konohagakure on her own. A disgraceful show of the Shinobi Corps in Harumi's opinion, which just justified why the ANBU were more competent when it came down to operations such as the one that had been granted to Team 7. Not that she had anything against anybody in that team, but it was just another mission that proved her opinion.
However, that wasn't the reason why her patience was starting to dry up. The reason was because three ANBU had been checking the channels for any communication or messages being moved over. For a while, nothing had happened and Harumi was close to ordering the three to cut it off and start working on gathering information. Then again, it was just weird how the girl had behaved. Who would reject help to get back home - to another city - while suffering a broken leg? Irritated by this, she had to let the assigned ANBU to keep checking the channels and those who were keeping a close watch on Karma to continue their task.

The dull waiting and surveillance watch had ended. Just as she activated her earphone communicator to pick up contact with the leader of Team 7 - to check if they had made any progress on their end, a report made her frown.

"We've managed to track a chakra signature that has puzzled one of our sensors ma'am." A young man reported. Harumi lowered her left hand, still frowning behind her mask. "Of who?" She asked, already dreading the countless amount of options that would just ruin their operation going smoothly.
"The Hyuuga. Strange thing is that the duo that is following the Nimatsu and Hyuuga haven't seen or noticed the Hyuuga leaving their watch. What are the orders?"

This was strange indeed. Her gut was telling her that she should contact Team 7 and let them go after the strange source. Harumi was more than eager to have a talk with this Karma as holding back vital information for a mission was enough to bring her back to be court marshalled. The problem was that she also wanted to know how it was possible that the Hyuuga had managed to elude them and appear at two different spots at the same time. The young man also reported that the sensor had managed to locate the Cho's chakra signature - being present at a market. Ordering the young man that they should apprehend this Karma as well venturing out to follow the new 'Hyuuga' chakra signature, Harumi would speak up in the earphone communicator :

"Listen up. We just found an identical chakra signature of the Hyuuga. I trust that you're capable of getting into contact with your lost tea member as we have enough now on our hands to be incapable of dealing with her at the same time. Her location is..."

Takeru Destrushia

Fifth Raikage | Daimyo's Castle, capital of the Lightning country ~ Ranzaki

[ Summary : ]
- Plot post and important for those who have a character/interest in the Lightning country. -
Takeru travels to the capital of the Lightning country, named Ranzaki. There he has a meeting scheduled with the Lightning Daimyo, Yasuhide Ranzaki. The two aren't friends and are more often disagreeing with one another than being on the same page. This post will, however, a change that shall shake the foundation of the Lightning country as well making clear that the 'Enemy' has set its fangs in the North.
(Or otherwise known as the game we will play : Spot the Vrykyl :) )

Ranzaki. The capital of the North, at least for those loyal and living in the Lightning country. A city that was founded hundreds of years ago by the dynasty to which the city owns her name. Build in the shadow of the Gyokusho mountain, one of the tallest present in the realm, the city had access to two rivers that enabled agriculture to flourish with the rich, fertile soil. It didn't really matter from where you approached the city as the northern site of the city was pretty much inaccessible, meaning that you had to come from southern directions in order to pay it a visit. And running along the rivers that provided the citizens of Ranzaki with fresh water during Spring and Summer you would travel through hills, filled with agricultural fields or meadow where cattle was enjoying the protection of their owners.

What further set Ranzaki apart from any other city in the north wasn't only the surrounding one had to travel to reach the gates and stout defences. Even though no force ever had besieged the city or came near it, there were watch towers erected in various strategic positions that would allow them to alert with beacon fires their comrades at the city for any hostile force. Patrols of well armed and armoured soldiers and shinobi made rounds through the areas, discouraging anybody to cause any sort of trouble. Unlike what some people said this did create a tranquil atmosphere the closer somebody would get to the city. There were various canals dug in the past, both serving as to supply farms and fields with water and as a defence measure. Toll booths were set up and maintained by soldiers, who checked waggons and carts for any contraband and anybody not having the required papers to sell or commence trade in the city.

Takeru sighed as they had just passed the last toll booth. The tax on crossing the canals was reported to be used to maintain the canals and bridges, but he doubted it. It wasn't all perfect as he was well aware that guards wouldn't shun away from taking a bit of extra 'salary' by asking a bit more tax or at the end of the day giving up on all money that they had gained. Not that he would say something about it as these men and women were all in direct service of the Lightning Daimyo. Even while he was formally the leader of the military, the troops in this area were 'retainers' of the Lightning Daimyo. In truth, they were his personal army and would bellow a laughter if he would try to order them around.

Not that he had to deal with them as he was 'safe' in his carriage, being escorted by various members of the Guard Corps and ANBU. Takeru didn't imagine that he would need any bodyguards for a meeting with the Lightning Daimyo, but the letter he had received a week ago with being told to report as fast as he could personally to the feudal lord had made him wary. He knew the old lord, which went by the name of Ranzaki Yasuhide. A stern and strict man that was fond of order and discipline, having ruled by now for more than twenty years over the Lightning country. While Takeru respected the man and had the idea that the feudal lord tolerated him as Raikage, there was a certain tension present between them both. In Takeru's point of view, this tension was because of the fact that Yasuhide wished to have more control over the lands. He was a supporter of a better-regulated military and that every clan had to provide conscripts for his personal service. Not to mention to bring the Earth Country - the rival of the Lightning - to its knees. Bringing a constant 'battle' between him and Takeru as the latter wasn't convinced to bring up another conflict as the Lightning country wasn't above in military strength and certainly not in economical matters. It certainly didn't become easier with many advisers of Yasuhide trying to witter away Takeru's influence at the Daimyo's court, whispering in the ear of the Daimyo how he should take matters in his own hand and perhaps disband the Raikage station. Some even used the pretext that the Akinian Empire had gotten rid of the Hokage position and was flourishing in might and finances because of it.

Wanting to push his thoughts and worries aside for a moment to distract himself by taking a good sight of the city, Takeru was unable to admire the beauty that one could find in Ranzaki. The beautiful arcs and columns that were being imported from the Akinian empire, the careful and smooth woodwork of the Sanosuke clan and so many more specialised work didn't do anything to make Takeru less wary and feeling mentally exhausted. Perhaps he could enjoy the sight of the diversity in art and architecture once he was done with the meeting. The carriage and its escort continued at a slow pace towards the northern section of the city, where the castle of the Daimyo was located. It was a castle that inspired awe and a certain dread as the dark rocks made it almost look like a dark iron fist shaken towards the heavens. It was also something that made Takeru wonder if the founders had taken it into consideration to build their city like how Ranzaki was in the present. In order for an army to take over the castle, they had to else try to cross the broad rivers that were the first wall of defence for the city. Then either crack or conquer the tall and stout city-walls, from where defenders could lay waste to any attacker with ranged weaponry. And once the attackers had managed to overcome those two struggles they had to fight their way through the streets and alleys towards the northern section where they had to breach the gate and wall that separated the city from the castle grounds. And finally being done with that, the attackers had to lay siege to the formidable castle. In short, a siege that would require immense numbers that would need to camp in the highlands while the defenders could hold them off with ease through various manners.

After a good two hours - as travelling through the streets with a carriage wasn't one of the fastest way through a city like Ranzaki - Takeru and his escort reached the gate that would allow access to the castle of the Lightning Daimyo. After the royal retainers had checked the papers and used sensory ninjutsu to be certain that there was nothing suspicious present with the escort or carriage Takeru was allowed to pass through with his group. It then still took an hour to enter the castle as only four bodyguards were allowed to accompany Takeru to the throne room of the feudal lord. This all was just protocol, but Takeru was slowly losing his patience. Perhaps something that his good old friend Yasuhide wished to do? Just to test his patience?

Walking towards the throne room, Takeru ignored the tapestries, artwork and other fascinating matters one could find from just walking around in the castle halls. Spotting the two large doors that barred access to the throne room, being guarded by formidable looking soldiers - or perhaps shinobi as the Daimyo wasn't shunning away from having hiring ex-shinobi or even directly luring away personnel from Takeru with the promise of better pay and the prestige of serving him. Without a halt, Takeru kept walking as the guards opened the doors and a herald spoke up.

"Takeru Destrushia, Fifth Raikage and Storm Blade of the North. Servant of the North, hail your rightous lord and ruler. Son of Yasihude of the royal blood of Ranzaki, Sixth Feudal lord and ruler of the Northern Lightning lands and her vassal states, the Rightous Ranzaki Shigeko!"

Slowly coming to a halt Takeru was staring at the small boy sitting on the throne. Flanked by a stern looking woman, who seemed to be around forty with the wrinkles almost permanently set on her brow - giving her an intimidating sight and presence - and a slender, bald man with a blank expression.

"Lady Righteous and hand of Justice, Aki Chise. Lady Regent of the Lightning Country, protector and mentor of his Lord."

"Oh, this is bad..." Takeru mumbled underneath his breath as he would bow towards the small pale boy on the throne. Already he felt the dismayed stare from Chise, before he even had straightend his back.

A 'Dead' End.

A collab written by Ice, Roran and Oetje.

Summary :
Meilin, Hideki and Kensuke are reunited. It doesn't happen in the
most smoothest of manner or going down as the most cheerful reunions one could imagine. Yet they manage to work together to try to bring in the next lead to get a step closer of uncovering who is behind all of the abductions or perhaps what happens to those poor families. However, somebody makes a grave mistake.

[spoili]
Waiting.

It was so dreadful in situations like these. The chance to get information and make progress herself was something she could do right now. Nobody that would hamper her or restrict her actions and movements. The freedom to follow out her desire and doing what she should have done already by this point. Yet the conversation with the unknown man that had spoken with her in Chonobi had made some matters clear. He hadn't given a name as he stated he was from the ANBU and was able to sympathise. It wasn't, however, his sympathy that had made Meilin accept - though being quite reluctant about it - his proposal. The fact that she could attract the ANBU hunting her down was something she didn't desire. Even as she wasn't aware how the corps worked, everybody that had done the basic academy course knew that they were quite something else. While she was confident that she could elude and evade Team 7 as the city was her turf, she wasn't so sure when it came down to doing the same to ANBU.

Giving through that she would be waiting at the western approach to the market Meilin leant against the wooden back of a stand. There were quite a lot of people and she had chosen this spot for a good reason. It allowed her to peek from the edge and spot her target as well being in the crowd. Meaning that if her distrust was justified then they had to do something really tricky to not cause any uproar. Having her earphone activated, she didn't lower her guard. All that it would require was just one wrong movement and she would just follow her own plan.

With light, quick steps, albeit unhurried, Hideki and Kensuke made for the rendezvous — or rather, Meilin's position as per the ANBU's message. She'd been quite pretty when he thought about it, at the meeting yesterday. What a waste, to hide behind crude animals masks all day long. "What will you do, sir — when we meet her?" Hideki asked his commander, eyes on the street. They were nearing the marketplace, the white noise of people chattering and laughing filling in the quiet.

Kensuke scoffed, thought about it, and then sighed, in that order. "Figure out what she learned and convince her to cooperate." He sighed again. "She doesn't seem to realize we're literally here to save her family, amongst others." He said out loud. "Or there's something else going on entirely."

Waiting, the dark brown eyes couldn't yet catch any sight of the familiar faces of Team 7. Considering that she could be here for some time did make her anxious. Her patience was already on a low level these days with everything that had been going on, but this was draining it only further.
Just as she was about to send a message that they should hurry up or else the meeting wouldn't happen, Meilin saw a tall blonde man. Frowning slightly the teen wondered how in the name of the divine moon it was possible that he was a shinobi. Pushing the thought of her mind, she wouldn't move. Remembering that he could make invisible shadow clones she wanted to keep her back against something solid so that she couldn't be surprised from the flank.

"Let us settle down the rules," She said, after activating her earphone communicator. Narrowing her eyes, Meilin introduced a pause after her words. "If you guys aren't what I suspect you are then we're going to play this by my rules. If not, then I am going to continue hunt down this trail. Understood?" Her voice was calm and her tone didn't border on being angry or insulting, though her phrasing made it clear she wasn't open for negotiating about her demands.

Hideki was irked to the core. Who did this little brat think she was, acting all high and mighty. He resisted the urge to respond with, "To hell with your rules!" They had no reason to answer any of her demands, especially now that ANBU had located what was likely the creature, given the appropriation of Hideki's and no-one else's signature — as Hideki was the only one to have come in physical contact. It scared him, thinking what it might do wearing his skin. He put a finger to the earcom, slackening his pace somewhat. "You're just digging your own grave, Meilin. You're a Shinobi now, a soldier of the Akinian Empire — not some reckless street urchin pursuing her own stuck-up goals. We know about your family, but we've been relieved of our duties as per the directive of the Jounin-Commander. ANBU is to deal with the issue now. So, if you must blame someone, blame the higher-ups — not us." He wanted to say more, disgorge his mind, but he waited for Kensuke to declare the ultimate sentence.

For a moment a black rage flared up, but he surpressed it as soon as he felt it. This was not the time to threaten her into cooperation. He activated his earcom as his eyes scanned the crowd, knowing that she had to have visual contact if she knew they were there. "The way I view it Meilin, is that we are wasting our time playing this game. I'd rather finish what we started than play hide and seek here." He said.

A scoff followed as she heard Hideki's words. She was half a mind to ditch the two and continue her own way. Realising that she had the information as why else would they deem to meet her? It made her confident enough to just stand still and wait for them to close the distance. Remaining silent to see if Kensuke had to say something Meilin did already glance for an escape route if things would go south.
As Kensuke spoke the teen waited for the young man to be done.
"Frankly, I agree. Time is a luxury nobody has these days. As for what I will do is something that will be decided today. I have my doubts about you all. Certainly even after Karma made it clear that she doesn't trust you either and I assume that you all knew each other longer than I do."

Letting those words sink in, a sigh would follow. "Then again, I can't get this information source myself. Listen, just work with my rules and if you two can prove that we're on the same side then we can end this. I am close to the truth..." Her voice trailed off as she thought about her words. Giving them information that she had uncovered was something she wasn't eager on sharing. But she did know that she could use all the help. Relying on her contacts and past friends in Keishi would only help her so far before somebody else would get in danger or worse. "I want nobody hurt, dead or maimed. There is this guy that we need information from. Problem? You can probably guess it," her tone was harsh and she wasn't really caring how it came over at this point. "Unless you two want to have the locals to get into an uproar or worse, we got to play this nice and sweet. That is, if you aren't cooperating with them in the first place."

Hideki listened to Meilin's litany, growing all the more infuriated. He spoke to Kensuke without the earcom activated. "We no longer have anything to do with this mission. Let's just 'follow her terms' and then drag her back insensate." His words were crude and heartless, but he'd had enough of these contraventions — first her, then Karma. Whoever promoted the latter to Chuunin had clearly made a mistake.

Kensuke nodded at Hideki. "I'm inclined to agree." There were a lot of things that could be said about the current situation but abandoning your team was a high mark in the list of things that were absolutely 'not done'. "Meilin, let me make this clear." Kensuke said on a light tone. "Those ANBU have been sent here to take over our mission because we are too involved, as a team. Officially however they were sent here to track us down, because we have all been filed as missing nin by the local authorities." he said while his eyes scanned his surroundings. He'd begun to expand his search area to the roofs, buildings and alleys as well. "Either you'll come along with us to Konoha, or the ANBU will take you, and I suspect you've noticed they have little trouble finding you." Was that Meilin over there? No, it wasn't. His eyes kept moving. "So either you cut the crap and tell us what's going on or we go home and you're someone else's problem."

She did listen, but her stomach started to turn a little as she felt her anger starting to boil. The expression on the teen's face became blank as she clenched her right hand into a fist - slightly trembling.
"I see." She said at first, considering her options. Knowing that this could go in two directions she didn't want to surrender her option of gathering more information. She was this close of gaining more and who know what she could get? Another lead straight to the other people. Or at least being able to puzzle where they were taking them.

Lowering her head for a moment Meilin took a second to breathe. "Sorry, but I can't just go back. I am this close of getting more information. The guy is just so close and before you think that you can lecture me again," she said as her tone remained calm, "I am not doing this for the sake of just my family. I admit, I don't trust you two so guess that is mutual if nothing else. But at least help me to get this guy and help me to figure out this puzzle piece. I already lost too much and gained little, but there is information that we can learn to stop them." Feeling a bitter gall creeping up her throat Meilin flexed her right hand fingers.
"I just need this one chance. If you allow me to prove that I am getting closer to figuring out more then I will come with you. Just grant me this shot. Is all I ask for."

Hideki rubbed his one eye, mind and bone feeling like lead. It was getting sore, ringed red and irritated. He said to Kensuke: "It's up to you, sir." Truth to be told he was tired of all the shenanigans, tired and jaded. But to deny his lust for vengeance against that accursed creature was to betray an intrinsic part of himself. Still, he was in no position to make demands. Something he understood, contrary to others.

Kensuke breathed in and rubbed his forehead, hiding a smile. Then he looked at Hideki with the earcoms off. "On the contrary, this is what I hoped to achieve." He said and flipped on the earcoms again. "Fill us in and we'll get moving."

Considering her options once more, Meilin chewed on her lower lip. "I found a mole in the guard. Took him out after a hearing. The guy I am now after has more than likely information on the transactions and organises the transport of the families that are being aducted. If I am correct," she paused for a second as she kept watch that nobody was eavesdropping on her, "Then that guy can have information on who is behind this mess. All that is preventing me from just grabbing a hold and moving him out of this public area is the fact that he is a stand owner. Meaning that luring him away will not be easy and if we are considered as missing nin then I assume that we really don't want to attract attention."
There was also the time limit that they had. Just two days? Waiting all day for the guy to pack up his stuff could be the best option to approach the objective at hand, but who said that they wouldn't risk more as the guy could go back to friends.

"I think I got a plan. It is a bit of a desperate one, but how good at you guys at creating a distraction?" She asked.

"Go ahead," Hideki said, simply, hoping that would answer her question. He was in no mind to humiliate himself, and especially not on the fancy of this punk, but what the hell...

"A distraction huh?" Kensuke said. "When do you need it?"

"As soon as you can give me one. I am really close to the target. Just do something to attract everybody's attention and then get out. We will regroup once I've taken the target, deal?"

"Cover me Hideki." Kensuke said and retreated a step out of the crowd, activating the camouflage jutsu. Turning invisible out of sight he then walked into the crowd and after a moment found what he was looking for. A couple was doing the groceries. He approached them, with some difficulty - it was quite hard to navigate a crowd unnoticed when invisible, people didn't really give you space to manoeuvre. Using a sturdy man who made his way through the crowd to get close enough and then poked the woman's bottoms so the wide man he used as cover became the target of her justified vengeance.

The slap resonated through the air, turning heads across the contingents of people. Hideki sighed and chuckled at once. "Jeez..." he mumbled. "What cover?" But I can do that much as well... Slipping between a group of people, effacing himself among their clothing and frames, he formed the Tiger seal. One of the three tattoos under his left ear sizzled green, coating him in an invisible shroud. He proceeded — blushing at his own actions — to copy Kensuke's 'enterprise'. The sound of another slap — voices rising. More heads turned, some children lead away, and now there was laughter as well, proliferating through the marketplace in jovial chaos.

She had her doubts if they could pull it off but this wasn't the time to question others. Blending in with the crowd and keeping watch of the man with the small moustache and who was suffering the begin of becoming bald, just serving somebody some sushi. Yet she figured that she wouldn't get a better chance. As heads turned Meilin picked up the pace.
Her anger started to surface and boil, a dreadful beast that demanded blood and justice. Kicking it mentally away Meilin would head towards the sushi stand. The owner himself was also distract and as laughter followed the man wouldn't be able to laugh as a gloved hand would find its way in front of its mouth. In a smooth movement the teen would kick with her right foot the right leg of the man, using the fact he would fall to slam his head against the ground to knock him out.

"Almost." She mumbled, throwing a glance over her shoulder to quickly see if she had anything to work with to cover the knocked out man. "Just need to get him covered. A few more seconds," Meilin stated, finding the sheet that was likely meant to cover the stand when it would rain. Starting to wrap it around the man, she worked as fast as she could.

More? Hideki lamented internally, working through the crowds of people. This time, however, he opted for a hulking beast of a man, and suddenly the gaiety was turning into actual bedlam, shouts now intermingling with the exponentially dwindling laughter. Some social-justice piranhas and vigilantes drew closer to the scene. Pray no-one get any serious injuries...

Kensuke observed the commotion, looking at the different men behind the stands. Some were laughing, some were eying their wares meticulously, careful of thieves, some were disinterested. At least one of them carefully studied the pavement as he was knocked unconscious. Kensuke zoned in on the man as he disappeared from his stand and tracked Meilin through the crows the best he could. From the crowd he heard a roar of anger and then the tell-tale meaty sound of a fist landing on someone's chin.

Wrapping the sheet tight around the man without making it too obvious that it was a man, Meilin would take a split second to catch her breath. While she was dead-serious on making it out with the target and getting the information there was a side of her that enjoyed this. It brought back certain memories, but reminding that this wasn't the time to relive those Meilin would wait for another burst of laughter before she would start to lift the man on her left shoulder. A soft groan escaped her as she kept herself low while moving away from the stand.

"Sorry, need to deliver this. Need to pass through, sorry," She kept mumbling, keeping her head lowered as she managed to pass through. A girl lifting some cargo wasn't a rarity that would make somebody question or stop her. Starting to head to exit the market she already had a location in mind where they could question the man. "This isn't going to be appreciated, but there is a small pub that is called the Staggering Drunk. At the right side there is an alley with a manhole..." Her voice trailed off for a moment.
"We can bring this fellow down and question him in... you know."

Staggering Drunk. Must attract a certain crowd, Hideki thought, activating his Byakugan while still remaining camouflaged. Spotting Kensuke's familiar glow of chakra, he quested after and eventually located Meilin as well, dragging along the sheet-wrapped 'salesman' somewhat inconspicuously.

By the time Meilin arrived at the manhole Kensuke's now visible form was holding it open for her and Hideki - wherever he was - to enter. The smell emanating from the sewer made his eyes water. The sewer next to the questionnable establishment the 'Staggering Drunk' was not high on his list of vacation destinations.

Without hesitation, Meilin would move into the manhole. The stink that greeted her in an eager fashion was something she tried to ignore. Her heart was beating in her throat as she still didn't trust Kensuke nor Hideki. But she was getting closer to the next puzzle piece and she would be damned if she wouldn't do something to get it.
Climbing down she would drop the man on the ground while she placed her right hand near her kunai pouch as she looked around. The lack of rain made it possible for them to be in the sewers as there wasn't much 'water' that would else wash them away.

Trying to calm herself down Meilin wondered for a moment if this man would lead them straight to the source or perhaps somebody or something close to it. Becoming eager - almost to the point of becoming anxious - Meilin started to pace as she kept a close watch of the 'target'.

Muttering under his breath against the reek of the sewers, Hideki climbed down after Meilin, surveying the subterranean gloom for a dozen heartbeats. Didn't seem to be a trap. The camouflage fizzled out, the glow of the tattoo ebbing, and Hideki's dark-clad figure appeared some four paces away from the ladder. "Might want to remove the cloth, lest he chokes."

Waiting for a moment the teen threw the Hyuuga a look. Eyeing him for a moment she would then turn to the sushi seller. Crouching near him Meilin would pull out a kunai. Not having the patience and desire to conserve the sheet she would rip the sheet around the throat first with the kunai. Pulling the torn off sheet so that they could see the man's face she would place the kunai on the ground next to the head. Weaving the required handsignals she would apply her Healing Technique. This all would be done in silence as she tried to force away her pent-up aggression and desires.

"He might wake up any moment now." She mumbled, not more than a thought becoming vocal. "Can't you use scalpels?" She asked, throwing a glance over her shoulder at Hideki. "I will need you to do some small cuts at various locations. Don't worry if you mess up, I can patch this guy up."

Coughing followed quickly as the man did woke up. Blinking he tried to make sense of his surrounding. It slowly dawned upon the man that he wasn't where he had been before the world had became black with the headache that came with the darkness. Licking his lips the man threw some quick looks at the visible strangers, clearly not content with his surrounding the man attempted to struggle out of the tight sheet of clothing around his body. Realising that didn't work, he flashed a smile to the young woman and man. "I don't wish to anger anybody, but may I ask why I am being tied like this and dragged in a... sewer?" He asked them, though there was a hint of an accent.

"Very well," Hideki said to Meilin, blowing air out of his nose. More excised fingers? He turned to the man as he spoke. "Not really, no, you may not."

In the near-absolute darkness of the cellar Kensuke sat from a distance, just out of sight and behind the man whose eyes were still adjusting to the dark. He observed what was going on in silence. He played with the thought of interrogating the man himself, but given that Meilin hadn't filled them in on what she knew exactly he entrusted her with the task.

Meilin ignored the question of the man, not even forming an opinion on the eerie fact he remained quite calm under the current situation he found himself in. Pulling out three senbon she would start to connect them by some wire.
"Good." She mumbled, as response back to Hideki. For a second she wondered where Kensuke was but decided that he didn't matter as much as the captive. Once she had connected the senbon with the wire, she would start to raise the loose end of the wire. Placing it on her tongue, she would clench it with her teeth while forming the Tiger hand signal, moulding chakra into fire chakra in order to heat up the wire and thus the senbon. She wouldn't be in any state capable of making the metal hot enough to pierce thick material, but it would add some unpleasant factor when being poked and piercing through skin and flesh.

After heating up the senbon Meilin would lower her hands and pick up two of the senbon. No emotion could be found on her face though her eyes revealed a chilling anger and desire for revenge.
Without any warning, Meilin would make one of the senbon pierce into the man's throat, just below the chin. Narrowing her eyes, she focused on what she was doing.
After being sure that the senbon was good stuck and continue to radiate the unpleasant heat Meilin picked another senbon while using her now free hand to keep the man's head steady.
"It is interesting how many pain points exist within our bodies. It is, of course, in a lot of ways something that can be diverse with each person. But most align with a common idea." She said in a calm tone, using the second senbon to pierce the man's lower lip.
"It is a shame that I can't use the last one on your tongue. It is certainly fascinating how easy the tongue can turn into a greasy mess with some heat." The teen continued to her 'patient' just after making sure that the second senbon would keep the man in pain.
Lifting the third senbon there was a slight pause as Meilin tilted her head to the right. Her eyes scanned the face of the man as she seemed to consider something.

"I think that healing the wounds I have so far made are easy to heal. But I can't have it that you pass out from the pain. The troublesome fact is that I don't want the suffering to be light either."

A pause followed the words before a sigh would escape the thin lips of the teen.

The senbon would be slamming down, the sharp point moving through the skin and membrane. A wicked sensation would move through her fingers as the metal thin weapon sank deeper and there was the morbid fascination how far she could push the senbon into the right eye socket before the point would hit the brain.
"That might be a challenge to heal, but don't worry, I will keep you alive. Now, I want names and information. And fast before he will start to chop fingers away."

Watching the 'cross-examination' with his Byakugan — and by effect ensuring none of the wounds inflicted were mortal, or otherwise capable of mortal damage — Hideki felt a conflicting paroxysm of disgust and recollection as she pierced the man's eye, warring inside him. Then, when it eventually stilled — images of Lanky ebbing — there was a slight discomfort regarding his own missing eye. He wondered absently what method hurt the most: the direct destruction of the eye or the scooping out with a spoon-like instrument, as it had been done in his case. Heavens... Does it even matter?

Watching in silence as Meilin took the man's eye Kensuke's face sank into a disapproving frown. Frankly he was disgusted, but at the same time he knew that he had little ground to stand on given their previous interrogation. He hated interrogation, and what it did to people.

Though he had remain calm, the man clearly suffered pain and discomfort from the hot needles piercing his skin. Trying to not shout and plead her to stop, wanting to remain calm the man's eyes started to widen. He briefly glanced at Hideki only to look back at the Cho. As he wanted to shake his head - a desperate attempt to free himself from the young woman's grip- a scream escaped him. The needle being pour into his eye caused the man to shake and shudder as he tried to break free. Hissing the man gave up as he started to whisper for mercy. Upon the demand for information the man whimpered, stating that he knew nothing.

A sigh was the only reaction that followed as Meilin held the wire in a firm grip, channelling a bit of chakra through it to keep the needles warm and making it even more uncomfortable than just without heating them.
"Can you chop off two of his left fingers?" Meilin asked in a calm tone to Hideki as her eyes were fixated on the man. "Only a fair trade for what others had suffered, I imagine."

Hideki took a step forward, producing a scalpel from his pouch. "There is no 'fair trade'. Suffering will only stop once people realize that." In spite of his words, however, his bandaged arm extended in a blur of motion, tracing a silvery arc that seemed to pass through the man's left index finger. After a slight delay, a tiny fountain of blood squirted from what remained and some seven paces away, a small piece of flesh sunk into the gutters.

Kensuke looked at both shinobi with a look of revulsion and wondered if they too had to fight the urge to puke. He hoped they were. Inflicting crippling injuries on helpless captives was something quite different from a skirmish or a battlefield. When Hideki complied and cut off the man's finger Kensuke felt as if bathed in icy water. He sent forwards a spear of killing intent at the man, filling him with impending doom and dread from behind him, if that didn't happen to be the case already. Given the man's position, Kensuke felt wrong for considering this an act of mercy.

A loud scream followed as the man felt a sharp pain. It was unsure if it was thanks to the sharp edge that seperated a finger from his hand or if it was thanks to the nerves not being sure where the part of his finger went. Panting the remaining eye of the man narrowed in anger. He was about to say something, but halted for a moment as the killing intent from Kensuke hit him. Closing his remaining eye the man breathed heavily as he tried to flex his fingers as the pain kept moving through his body from the various places he was being hurt. "I-Information?" He repeated in hoarse voice. "I-I will... give you information..." A nervous smile crept on his lips as he tried to ignore the pain vibrating through his body.

Chakra started to run rampant through his body - which would alarm Hideki as he had seen something familiar a while ago. The features of the man started to shift as fur started to sprout from where skin could be seen. The shouting masculine voice changed into something different, more animalistic as the muscles of the man started to expand. The clothing that held the man together would start to rip as the transformation went on, one claw-hand attempting to get a firm grip of one of the nearby teens.

Still crouched Meilin didn't say a word or moved a muscle as the man had trouble with breathing. Frowning as the man stated he would give them information the hair on her neck started to rise. Just right in front of her, the man started to change. Morph into something that belonged in nightmares.
Frozen in a mix of fascination, fear and surprise Meilin wasn't sure if this was even real. Before she could respond properly she already felt a claw grabbing her, the sharp nails moving through the fabric of her sleeves into her skin.
"Fuck!" Escaped the teen as she gasped for air afterwards. The creature had an abnormal strength, but even so Meilin attempted to free herself by trying to launch a kick at the beast while trying to jerk her left arm free from its grip.

Heart turning into ice, his Byakugan-enhanced vision bombarded by miasmic whorls, Hideki acted instantly nonetheless, seeing Meilin caught in its clawed grip. Extracting three scalpels, ranged between his fingers, he buried them in the extended arm of the creature, aiming for veins and nerve fibres, then produced a kunai and tried to pry loose the claws with slashing rapids. His thoughts were gradually turning into mush, supplanted by primal impulses and animal instincts — how come there seemed to be so much unbridled rage in him?

It took a moment for Kensuke to register what was actually going on but by the time the man began to grow fur Kensuke's hand flew to his sword. Without a thought he executed a iaido cut aimed at the back of the morphing thing's head. He was aware they needed it alive, but given the thing he'd withnessed a day and a half before, he wasn't willing to take any chances.

A low growl would be produced as the creature managed to grab Meilin. Just as he was getting up, a snarl would be released as sharp pain moved through his stretched out arm. The creature released Meilin as result from the fierce offense from Hideki, about to move backwards as dark blood dripped on the ground. Before it could recompose itself the eye of the beast became slightly wider as Kensuke's blade cut the back of the head. Becoming silent the beast-turned man would drop on his knees before falling flat on his face. Slowly the transformation seemed to shift back into the man that they had seen before.

Struggling Meilin narrowed her eyes. She kept trying to kick the creature, but there was just no way that she could overpower it. A gasp would be released as Hideki came to her aid, managing to hurt the creature enough to release her.
Dropping on one knee as she clenched her hurt arm with her free hand, Meilin started to scream as she looked up.

Seeing that the damage was already done the teen turned pale. "Fuck! Fuck! Fuck!" She started to curse, ignoring the sharp pain moving through her limb. Quickly crawling to the beast that turned slowly back into human Meilin started to panic - which was evident by her sharp breathing.
"No, damn it! Why?!" She groaned, starting to feel sick. Further trying to ignore her own wounds, she would attempt to weave hand signals but it took two tries before she managed to conjure a small green orb. Trying to heal the wound inflicted by Kensuke Meilin kept softly cursing.

His mind still dominated by bestial howls and exhortations, Hideki swayed slightly, feeling a pang of vertigo as the creature collapsed, dark blood trickling out the back of its neck in strings of uneven, thick pearls. Rummaging in his pouch for the roll of gauze bandages he used to cover his burnt arm, he eyed Meilin and her desperate efforts without a word. What a mess... What the hell am I doing?

Kensuke was confused by the death of the creature. Apparently the protective abilities of their chakra shield took some time to manifest. He cleaned his blade on the back of the man's shirt and sighed. Whatever it was, it clearly misdjudged the situation pretty badly. "Right." Kensuke said, as if the entire matter was dealt with and turned to both teammembers like an avenging fury.

"What the fuck was that all about?" He said, his eyes boring into Meilin's and then Hideki's.

"W-What..."

Silence followed the sole word uttered by Meilin. As she looked up, her eyes were filled with a desperate anger. "What this... was... It was our only fucking lead! The next step! You dumb oaf! Idiotic brainless murderer!" She started to scream, trying to still keep the thing alive. Lowering her eyes, she saw how much blood the creature - or man- had lost. It was probably hopeless but she didn't want to give up.

"So close. So damn close." She started to whimper. "Now we know nothing more! We could've learned who he dealt with! Tracing back to ... whatever!" Words started to shift into another phrasing as Meilin started to grumble, groan and mutter in Chonobi. It was anything, but likely pleasant as she tried to keep melding the wound closed. She kept ignoring her own wound, trying to check if the man still had a heartbeat.
"You! Can't you not use something?" She asked Hideki, managing to find a very weak pulse. He used scalpels, after all. "I-- We need this guy's information! Come on, help for damn's sake!"

Lowering his gaze under Kensuke's unrelenting stare, Hideki kept his mouth clammed up as he knelt by Meilin's side with the roll of gauze in the palm of his hand. "He's dead, and you need patching up," he said, simply, with an air of finality, not meeting her eyes. For the first time, he felt an ache of sympathy in his heart for her. Her parents' lives were in jeopardy, after all — if not dead and gone already.

Kensuke grimaced at being called a murderer. The words would've stung a few years ago. Now they just told him she was in shock. "Meilin the man is dead. Leave him be." Kensuke said with the same tone as before.

Her vision became blurry as tears started to well up. She had heard Hideki's words and knew that she had to do something about her arm, but stubbornly she kept on going. She didn't even seem to register Kensuke's words, trying to keep on going.
"No, please. I need information. I-I really need this!" She whimpered, trying to keep using her healing technique. There was a faint aching throbbing through her arms as she was pouring more chakra into her technique. Attempting to just force the man or creature back alive. She would gladly sacrifice her own arm for the information that they could harvest from it. It could save others and she was willing to give an arm up for that.

"Please, don't die you dumb, ugly... thing." She whispered, slowly being forced to stop her technique. Staring at the corpse she lowered her hands as she realised what this meant. The information that could grant the desire to rescue her other siblings and her father. To save people she perhaps knew or just doing what could've made her parents proud. It was all now just a simple desire. A wish that wouldn't come true.
Clenching her own arm by the wrist Meilin started to cry as she didn't want to believe it. The pain at her arm was nothing compared to the pain that coursed through her very core, the desperation of wanting to just be capable of saving her kin and family.
"Th-This isn't fair..." She whimpered, continuing in Chonobi as she kept on crying. What a great kunoichi she turned out to be. Crying in a sewer, over the death of something that had tried to kill her not even a few moments ago.

Harambeno... Her cries echoed mutely against the brick walls of the tunnels, seemingly animated by the intensifying reek of the dead creature. Tasting iron on his tongue, Hideki kept to his silence and began to wrap the gauze around Meilin's injured arm, somewhat sloppily but adequate nonetheless — at least it would curtail the bleeding.

Kensuke sighed when she started crying. This entire situation was one he did not want to deal with. Yet the sight of the crying girl reminded him of her situation, how new she was to the entire shinobi business. His anger slowly dissipated, stored for a more appropriate occasion. He created two shadow clones who began surveying the area just in case the entire thing was another layered ambush before knelt down by Meilin and nodded at Hideki. "Take your time." He said with a soft tone.

She kept sobbing, barely registering that Hideki was treating her arm. If anything she wanted a second try. Somehow a miracle happening that the corpse would move and tell them everything. To just spill the beans about where the victims were taken and what happened to them. How they could be saved and more. But that desire wouldn't be answered and while she had been capable of managing her emotions in other situations this was something she could deal with. Not now.
What should she do now? What would become of the others that she hadn't rescued? Questions kept raging through her mind as she stared at the corpse in front of her.

Slowly she managed to stop herself, realising that she had only one thing to do. Hitomo was safe. She should remain safe and healthy. Raising her good arm and hand up to rub away the tears, she heard what Kensuke told her.
"I-I want to go..." She whispered, glancing at the bandaged arm. Biting her lower lip she threw a last look at the corpse. Only now she saw that she hadn't even been able to repair the damage that had been dealt with the back of the man's head.
"I need to do something." She said, whimpering only a moment later as the pain that was numbed by her emotions earlier on started to surface. "My little sister. I need to get to her."

Hideki nodded, returning the roll to his pouch. "Let's go then."

"No." Kensuke said, turning to Hideki. "Contact the ANBU. They'll be listening in on our communications." Then he turned to Meilin. "Is your sister in a safe place?" Kensuke asked. "If she isn't the two of us will bring her here with us." He said to her. "Unless I'm mistaken, the ANBU know how to extract intel from corpses."

For a moment Meilin remained silent as she threw a glance at Kensuke after he asked his question. There was still the bitter disappointment present, mixed together with a sliver of doubt that lingered behind. If it wasn't for his action she would've lost probably an arm. While she was more than eager to sacrifice her life and limbs for that of her family, she couldn't bring herself to sneer back at him or consider him what she had done before.
"She is with people I know. They're good people who will take care of her until I come back to pick her up." She said, on a soft tone.

"Alright." Pressing a finger to his earcom, he tuned in to one of the communication lines. "We've dispatched a creature in the sewers near a pub called the Staggering Drunk — enter through the manhole. If it's possible, we request an autopsy before it's too late."

Awaiting an answer to his question, Shikaroku felt a cold chill surround him. His body locked up and he could feel himself trembling.

What... what is that feeling?

Searching for the source of this strange new fear, Shikaroku's eyes gravitated towards Kiyomi. It felt as if something was emanating from her... something dark and terrifying. Confused for a moment as to why this feeling would be coming from Kiyomi, Shikaroku almost didn't notice the room filling with light. Wrenching himself out of his paralyzed state, Shikaroku looked over at the man who had somehow invaded their thoughts. The... man... who was supposed to be a Chimera? Narrowing his eyes, the Nara fought to bring his hands up in a defensive stance, trying to put on a brave face. Observing the man, Shikaroku listened to his and Kiyomi's conversation. The conversation clearly wasn't going well and the Nara tried to discern as much information from it as he could.

Then Kiyomi ordered them into battle positions and everything changed... The man shifted forms into something else, something awful.

Chimera.

Taking a step back, Shikaroku steeled his nerves. He couldn't run. Not here. Not now. The temptation remained to take the object from his pack, but Shikaroku pushed the thought aside. It was supposed to only be for the most dire of situations and despite how dire things seemed, Shikaroku had a hunch that things were only going to get worse. Hearing Saki's advice in his head, Shikaroku grew worried. What would happen if he were to get one of his migraines? He did not know if it was possible for there to be any neural feedback shared through the bond that Saki had created, but if there was any chance... any chance that he could screw things up for everyone... No. Shaking his head and forcing the thought from his mind, Shikaroku focused on his immediate duty.

The creature was too far for him to use his shadow techniques with enough effectiveness, and it was far too large for him to have much success immobilizing it. Reaching into his weapons pouch, Shikaroku withdrew two shuriken. For now he would have to do as he was asked and remain back. If he could observe the creature, how it moved, how it reacted and attacked... then perhaps he could give his teammates an edge. Gritting his teeth to overcome the fear that still threatened to paralyze him, Shikaroku sent the two shuriken flying towards the massive creature's goat head, his hand slipping back into the pouch to draw two more as he watched.

Violet stood in her spot if not from the order from Kiyomi then from shock that such a creature existed. Kiyomi and Saki both launched range attacks and even Shikaroku was preparing his assault. Sitting there and waiting was probably the scariest thing about this fight. Typically she was all about running in as she was a close combat specialist. It just felt right to be within arms reach of an opponent. At the moment though, she felt useless and passive. She did not like having a part nor having to watch as the creature reacted and planed its next move.

The terror inside of Violet's mind slowly evolved from a helpless little child to that of a cornered animal. Her muscles itched to run full force and strike the creature as hard as she could. She could not run away or she could die. If she could not get in melee range, then she could die. The thought of death resurface again sending beads of sweat down her face. Her and and legs trembled. Her breathing sped up. She clenched her teeth as her imagination ran wild describing the multiple ways she could die if she did not act.

As the creature moved with a grace and agility that seemed unnatural for it to not end up being burnt to a crisp, a loud roar would shortly follow. The knife thrown by Saki would cause the blue hue surrounding the weapon to slash and impale through the eye and surrounding skin and flesh. Blood dripped on the ground as the lion - and front - head shook violently. A loud bellow would follow as the shuriken of Shikaroku also hit their mark, cutting and impaling the thick neck of the goat head.

The creature seemed to recover, however, pretty quickly as it started to run towards them, closing the distance at a fast pace. As the creature drawn near, Kiyomi grew irritated as she noticed something. "Saki, cut me off the telepathic bond." She said. Focusing her attention on the imminent threat Kiyomi felt a twinge of frustration boiling up. She had to be careful to not suffer chakra-burning, but facing the creature in close range with weapons wasn't really attractive either. For that reason, she would pull out a kunai with one hand while using the other to grab a blinding tag. Slapping the tag around the handle of the kunai, Kiyomi would run towards the creature.

Harumi Uchiha,

| ANBU | Akinian Empire | Keishi, West of the city center |

[ A collab that has been made with Gerontis ]

[ Part I ]
[ Summary ]

Harumi Uchiha leads a part of her ANBU team to apprehend the weird anomaly that their sensor picked up. The sensor of the ANBU team had managed to track a chakra trace that was identical to the signature of Hideki Hyuuga. Sparked with interest Harumi decided that she and half of her Team would attempt to figure out if this anomaly is a clone or something worse. What she and the others discover seems to be nothing that they had expected, at all. ]

[spoili]
Everything was set. With everybody being on their position Harumi wasn't worried about how this would go. Her eyes half closed with the cover of the porcelain-white mask as she kept herself in the shadow of the alley. Their target seemed to be in no hurry or at all aware of that he was being tracked. The only odd thing at their target was that it seemed to be a perfect replica of the Hyuuga's chakra signature of Team 7. Together with the report that they had received from Team 7's previous experience, Harumi considered it wise that she would deploy half of the ANBU team she had to her disposal to apprehend this deceiver.

A silence ruled over in the dark alley as she kept on waiting. Briefly, she glanced to her left, trying to spot the others but it was in vain. Each ANBU under her current command had seen his or her amount of action, having served for years in the elusive corps. Harumi wondered briefly if they would be capable of defeating a foe that seemed to be immune to chakra and physical attacks, but just as she wanted to use the earphone communicator to request the position of their sensor she heard something.

The previous silence was disturbed as somebody stepped on something - creating a creaking sound that resonated through the dark alley. Instantly Harumi's gloved hands would move together. The faint sounds of somebody walking further into the alley kept her sharp. Spotting already a shadow she kept herself silent. Her instincts that told her to strike as soon as she saw just a glimpse of the person, using her position to deliver a deadly ambush attack. Managing with ease to subdue her instinctive desire Harumi frowned slowly. The person that walked in a rather slow pace into the alley wasn't their target. It was a drunk person - who seemed to be carrying all that he possessed with him in two bags. Burping the man looked around before he would sit down, raising a dirty looking bottle to his lips to take a swig.
"Target is closing in. Close behind that drunk."
"Understood. Battle positions, aim to take it alive. Remember what the report detailed." Harumi whispered back, in code language - seeing that they had a suspicion that with the desertion of Ezuri Hyuuga the enemy had likely a way to access their radio contact.

It remained silent - apart from the drunk man who started to sing - as the team remained in position. Footsteps could be faintly heard as Harumi waited to see another shadow. She expected some sort of dread as she remembered what Team 7's report detailed on the unknown foe they had faced. Knowing that there was one sort of shape-shifters Harumi doubted they would face with such a foe today. Those used physical contact to try to destabilise their opponent by taking on perfect illusions of people that were close to that person. A nasty tactic for those who weren't hardened for such psychological attacks.

Seeing the edge of a shadow nearing the drunk man Harumi's hands would intertwine, ready to flash hand signals. Slowly the Hyuuga showed himself as he would come to a slow halt near the drunk man. For a moment nothing happened as the drunk seemed to be obvious for the young man that had stopped near him. Crouching the deceiver would pull something out of his pocket.
"Chakra moulding is sensed... What the.."

The voice of the sensor said enough together with seeing what was happening. There was no contact between the two, but the drunk man started to become silent. As if he was starting to fall asleep, but Harumi spotted something that was strange. The shadow of the Hyuuga seemed to become alive. Tendrils of darkness started to rise slightly up and move forward, grabbing the homeless person and after a few moments the imposter thrust a small object into the chest of the homeless person.
"Chakra leech, confirmed."
"Execute."

Forming the Ram hand signal Harumi started to mould her chakra. She remained in position as it then would go down fast. Three shadows moved from their cover, a glint of steel briefly spotted in the light of day. The first attack would be of an ANBU armed with a katana, the edge laced with highly concentrated chakra that would deliver a nasty gash for even a heavily armoured foe. The deadly attack was, however, not as what it used to be as the chakra seemed to vanish as the steel blade closed in the distance and hit the neck of the creature without the supportive chakra edge.
Instead of lingering around in close combat quarters the ANBU with the katana would quickly move backwards as the next attack would land a split second later. An ANBU with two tanto's moved up from above, using her speed to launch herself in a flip over the crouched opponent. Two glints would be spotted by Harumi as the only evidence that the tanto armed ANBU lashed out. Narrowing her eyes, Harumi spotted something odd.

Previous Post.

A moment of silence passed by as Takeru eyed the three in front of him. He noticed that the young lord was eyeing him with a curious and wary look back. Probably Yasuhide hadn't spoken much good about him, Takeru wagered. Mentally he would brace himself for a verbal joust, but decided to first play it friendly. He considered himself pretty good with children, after all. "Has been quite some time that I last saw you, good lord." Takeru said, in a friendly and sweet tone as the masked man nodded. "I did hope that I would be able to meet you in better situations. I am sorry for the loss of your father." Making a short bow, Takeru noticed that the boy nodded and chewed on his lower lip. Instead of answering back the child threw a sideways glance at Chise. The regent didn't even hide her dismay of seeing Takeru.

"Takeru De--"

"Sorry, my dear, but I don't think it would do any good to become personal in a situation like this, would it?"

The regent narrowed her eyes as the Raikage interrupted her. Taking a moment to not sneer back at the man, she would speak up again. "Yes, you're of course right Lord Raikage. But we have called you here for some serious matters. That regard the safety of our current feudal lord. The late lord Yasuhide has been assassinated by Keitaro Ranzaki." The regent said in a stern tone, her hands placed on her back as she slightly raised her chin. A pause followed on which she let the words sink in. "I assume you do agree that the safety of the current feudal lord is of paramount importance?"

Takeru frowned behind his mask. The idea of Yasuhide dead was already weird and it had surprised the man enough that he had all forgotten about Keitaro, the first son of Yasuhide. A more promising man that had charisma and talent to become a competent ruler - even though it was common knowledge that the young man hadn't yet lost his wild hairs. A number of maids and other girls that had been his lover was far beyond count. If Takeru remembered correctly Keitaro was rumoured to switch from lover every weekend. Not to mention that abundance claims of his bastards running around in the capital.
"I agree, Lady Regent. The safety of the feudal lord is of paramount importance. I just wonder how it came to be that the late lord Yasuhide came to fall as he was quite fond of Keitaro."

"Good. And the boy had a fallout with his father. Shortly before servants found the body of the good late lord Yasuhide. Keitaro was reported to be missing as well, clearly having packed his possessions and left shortly after done the vile deed of kin slaying." Chise answered. Her lips parted as she wanted to continue talking.

"I find this really hard to believe, Lady Regent." Takeru briefly glanced at the bald man and the child daimyo, before focusing his attention back at the regent. "Kinslaying is something that isn't anywhere accepted if my mind serves me correctly. Keitaro was perhaps impulsive at times, he wasn't some rampant idiot to just murder anybody over a fight." The man said, clearly angering Chise with not agreeing with her.

"Lord Raikage, may I remember you of your place--"
"Yes, you may but that won't do much to persuade me." Takeru said in a colder tone. The tension in the room started to rise as Chise clenched her hands behind her back. The venomous glare she shot at Takeru said enough that her patience was running out.

"Good lord Raikage," the bald man spoke up with a calm, soft voice. He briefly lowered his head towards Takeru as his hands would fold together. It was clear that the man was a monk, but Takeru couldn't recognise the order the man served. "I understand that this is all of a sudden, but would you please be listening to our proposal? It is for the good of all those in the good nation we live in."

Takeru felt the need to already say something sarcastic at the man. He wasn't much of a religious man, but he wouldn't speak against a religious monk. He was already outnumbered, so perhaps it would be better to not make too many enemies today. "Very well. I am indeed confused on what all just transpired without anybody informing me earlier of this all happening."

"Thank you. I shall introduce myself as I feel like that only would be in place. Kata, my good lord Raikage." Kata once more made a bow towards Takeru. As Takeru made a mental note of the man his attention shifted to Chise as she spoke up again. Raising her right hand up as a fist, she would raise her index finger up while speaking.

"You'll pull back the troops in the east. The threat of a civil war between Keitaro and Shigeko is one that we can't use. The treaty between us, the Empire of Akino and Republic of the Water country shall be terminated. Our own needs surpass that of the foreign lands." She said, raising her middle finger next to her index finger. "You'll assign the two jinchuriki that serve in your shinobi corps to the Daimyo's service. We don't trust the fact that the Saviour got kidnapped before, meaning that Keitaro and his traitors probably could get their hands on them to use them to further his goal." Raising her ringer finger, Takeru started to feel sick and disgusted by her. "Keitaro has to be hunted down. Together with assigning at least thirty percent of your best troops of each corps to the daimyo's service to ensure that his safety will be maintained until we are sure that there will be no threat for his rule."

Takeru didn't hide the disgust in his voice as he shook his head. "And then why not request me to also go to the Earth Country and ask if I can marry the heir of that country? Your demands make no sense!" Takeru argued. "If we forsake the treaty the alliance we have with the Akinian empire might ---"

"Why would we ever need them? The Lightning country won all her wars so far. I doubt we will need the assistance of the Empire unless you prefer to serve them above your true lord?" Chise said in a venomous tone.

"We will need them! There is something in the east on the rise! Already several attacks have occurred in Kumogakure that almost claimed the lives of leading officials. We just learned that they originate from unknown regions. And just as it happens is that we also can conclude that whatever is stirring up and causing the misery and chaos in the Wolf country also comes from the east! Are you both dumb and ug---"

"The east is far away! We have a sea between us. If there is indeed such a thing as a threat then let it come to us! Nobody has ever managed to invade our country with success!" Chise sneered at the masked man, taking a step forward.

"Except Shoji and his lackeys managed quite well. And what would happen if we forsake the east? The Sky country is our vassal. Just giving up on them is betraying our own people." Takeru shook his head again. "You're asking for the impossible. It is my task to use the military to safeguard the future and freedom of the people that live in these borders. Same as demanding such a huge amount of the troops that are serving my command."

"Impossible? I feel like that we already found our first traitor. Guards!"

Takeru narrowed his eyes but didn't move a muscle. The present guards that served the daimyo in the room outnumbered him and the four ANBU that were with him. Without a word his ANBU reached for their weapon and formed a protective formation around their Raikage.
Almost letting his anger and frustration getting the better of him, Takeru did ponder on taking the fight with the regent. He was certain that he could entrust his back with his ANBU, but Chise wasn't just a showoff with words. She was rumoured to be the best and most experienced sensor and sealer nin in the Lightning country. Perhaps she hadn't a bright profile - for failing an important operation during her time in the Shinobi corps - that didn't ever stop her from continuing to work on her skill. Takeru glanced at Shigeko. The pale boy seemed frightened with the prospect of a fight happening and that made Takeru reconsider the plan. He raised his left fist, slowly opening his hand. His ANBU would drop their stance, but not dismissing their formation yet.

"Violence isn't the answer. The Lord wouldn't consider this the way. Allow me," Kata spoke up with a sad expression flowed over his wrinkled features, "To propose the offer to consider the suggestion of the Lady Regent. If you would aid us in finding Keitaro then we could arrange a fair trail. Would that be acceptable to you?"

Takeru glanced one more time at Shigeko before he would turn his attention on the monk. "Yes, that would indeed be more acceptable."

Walking back to the carriage Takeru was from the outside calm and collected. He was, however, boiling with anger and frustration. Dealing with the previous daimyo, Yasuhide Ranzaki, had always been a pain in the back. The man, however, couldn't compete with the likes of Chise. That woman acted as if she was the damn creator of the world. Gritting his teeth Takeru felt the need to turn around and start to make it clear that he wasn't some dog to be kicked around.
Just before he moved into the carriage, Takeru beckoned two of the ANBU that had escorted him into the throne room to move into the carriage with him. A masked man and woman would move into the carriage after Takeru sat down. As the horses started to pull the carriage, Takeru crossed his arms out front of his chest.

"I got a mission for you both. Under the radio. I think it is clear that Keitaro knows something or that at least something is wrong. You both are tasked to find out what happened and find him. You're going to be going fully operating in secret. If you do happen to find any trace or things become too dangerous then report directly back at me. Else? Go to the Akinian Empire and bring this out to the highers up of that allied realm. I suspect that more is going on than we are being told." Just as Takeru finished talking, he glanced at the door.

"Good luck." Takeru said as he nodded to the door, a clear sign that they had to get going.

Toshi and Yumeji finally get out of their debriefing and just try and go eat some food.

"Go over it, one more time"

"Are you serious? One more time? Like from the beginning one more time?"

The Officer let out a sigh that indicated his waning patience before straightening the papers in front of him and pushing his glasses a bit farther up his nose, "Yes. One more time Harada, I have to be sure that the story the Hojo has told and your story aligns correctly." he said as he pointed from Toshi to Yumeji with an open palm.

Leaning back in his chair Toshi closed his eyes, struggling internally to not just stand up and attempt to leave. Putting the thought to the side partially due to the veteran soldiers standing outside the tent and more so beacuse of just how much of a pain it was to go from sitting to standing after he managed to impale himself with over sixty senbons. "Fine, we fought a giant creature wearing armor, it shrugged of some of my best traps and her best hits--" he said waving his arms in an arch through the air above his head "---and we barely beat it. All we did was blow up what was inside the armor in the end. Hell if we hadn't managed to do that I'm not too sure any of us would have been able to defeat it..." he paused for a moment and then kept talking, "It only screamed when I sent at least twenty senbons through the slits in its helmet... It only screamed... It didn't die."

He looked to the blonde Chuunin that he had fought the creature with and shrugged, "Really I don't want to explain this battle for the sixth time in full detail, so please if you want to add in your side considering I didn't see what was going on with you most of the time." he smiled and leaned a bit farther back in his chair bringing it up on its two rear legs.

She had remained quiet for the majority of the hearing as Yumeji both was tired and frankly unsure if what had happened wasn't part of some nightmare. There were several reasons and arguments she had considered on why the previous events seemed to be part of a nightmare. Perhaps they had just fallen asleep on the mission and the others had managed to lay out a prank on them? Something with genjutsu, perhaps?
Instead, it seemed to be quite real and that terrified Yumeji as they were giving the briefing. As Harada turned to her and gave her the spotlight to talk, Yumeji would end up disappointing the officer that was trying to get another version of the debriefing. "Don't have much to add. Pretty much tops the entire battle. From my perspective, I can only add that it had a strength that could top an adult man with ease. Other than that?" She shrugged afterwards. "Not else really."

The Officer scribbled down some notes before standing and starting to walk towards the exit, "Fine, you two are free to go. But just be warned you may be called back later for additional information." the Officer said without stopping before stepping out of the tent and disappearing.

Leaning forward and letting the chairs front legs hit the ground Toshi stood, wincing at the pain present in his legs as he did so and turned his attention tot the Chuunin. "So what say we go and figure out how everyone else is doing? Check on those that didn't get out of that as luckily as us, Shinobi and Soldier both?" he suggested as he buttoned up his jacket and pulled his scarf to hang loosely just slightly above his mouth. "Or we could go grab something to eat, one is definitely the better choice but I'll leave that up to you to figure out..." he said, the smile beneath his scarf obvious from the way he spoke.

Relieved that it was done it felt like hours had passed for Yumeji. As the man left and made it clear that they could be called back for another hearing, the relief almost vanished. Glad that she wasn't going to be asked to repeat the story, again, Yumeji rose up from her seat.
"Hm?" Yumeji turned her head to look at the boy as he more or less suggested to look up how the others were doing. She wondered for a moment how Mizuchi was and if she had made it. There had already been a twinge of worry that her sibling hadn't made it out alive, but she had been too troubled with some other matters and not to mention the torture that she and the boy had experienced.
"I think I could go for something to eat. Don't know about you, but I haven't been able to take a bite of food ever since I woke up." There was a feigned whining undertone present in Yumeji's voice as she half turned around while using her left hand for him to lead the way. For once in a while Yumeji was also quite happy with not wearing her armour as she felt the need to breath again.

Taking a moment to process what the Chuunin had said, Toshi's smile widened and he quickly led the way out of the tent. Finally in the open Toshi had to shield his eyes from the sun before cursing quietly to himself that it was at least mid-day and he had yet to eat since before they left the night before. "Okay so the food isn't too great around here, but in all honesty I could just about eat anything right now so I think we should book it to the cooks area eat like the starved slayers we apparently are and then get on over to our comrades."

His tone was a mix of apprehension and anxiety as he spoke and dodged inbetween the many soldiers present going about their daily work. "So, I know we've met before but I figure after all we just did I should introduce myself again, a bit more informally." he said dropping his left hand into his pocket.

"Name's Harada Toshi. Sealer, Slayer, and Baker Extraordinare." he said jokingly as he offered his right hand out while they walked.

Following the other, out of the tent, Yumeji as well had to take a moment to get used to the light of the day. How many hours had already passed? How long had she been knocked out ever since they had taken out that... thing? Raising her right hand to shield her eyes from the bright, but not pleasantly warm sun rays Yumeji would turn her head to the boy as he began to talk.
She didn't feel like talking and neither did she feel really great. What they had encountered back then was something she had never heard, read or met before. There were so many questions that were bugging her and making her feel freaked out. The screaming still haunted her in the back of her mind, as if the creature had never died but continued to haunt them with its screeches.
"Yumeji," she said with a faint smile touching her lips as she would extend her own hand to shake his, "Think Slayer is the only nickname on my resume. Sorry to disappoint." There was somewhat of a cheerful tone present in her voice as she replied back to Toshi. That and she found some distraction while he seemed to be able and willing to talk for two.

Giving Yumeji's hand a firm shake, Toshi couldn't help but smile at her comment about not having any other titles. "Well in honesty the first and last one I made up just now." he said as he plunged his hand into his pockets. "If anything Slayer is my only nickname as well...".

As they walked Toshi tried to focus on a small pebble and kicking it all the way to the galley tents, head hung low with his scarf still pulled up to mostly cover his lower face. "You're quite a talented fighter, I could have never held that thing off like you did. If I would've tried that I would have been two separate pieces laying out there right about now." his compliment contorting into a twisted thought that Toshi didn't catch in time to stop from pouring out of his mouth, he simply cursed and buried his face a bit deeper into his scarf. "I didn't mean to bring that up..." the guilt was obvious in his voice as he seemed to focus more on the pebble in front of him.

"But what do you think they've got at the---"

"Hey hey! Those are the Slayers!" came a yell from a younger soldier to their right, followed by a few more shouts and some whistles as soldiers came out of their tents and began to yell and cheer as the two walked by.

Pulling a hand from his pocket, Toshi took his scarf and pulled it up to just over the bridge of his nose in an attempt to try and hide the embarassment that would have benn clear on his face, "We were only doing what we had to..." he said beneath his breath.

"They didn't slay nothin!" "Yeah it's all a lie!"
"Like hell they did!"
"They killed the beast! Saw it with my own two eyes!"
"You weren' even there!"
"Yes I was!"
"The brass is just tryin' ta scare all you lesser thinkers with stories of a beast!" "Yeah so we'll fight better!"

As if in an instant the praise and relatively calm crowd of soldiers changed into a mass of frustrated and at-odds people. They began to move in closer around each other as they yelled about whether or not Yumeji and Toshi had truly done anything at the battle. Informalities about men and their mothers were thrown, dillusional comments tossed at one another and soon enough there was the clinking of soldiers on guard running into the crowd trying to break up the small riot of soldiers.

Yumeji had been silent, taken by surprise by his compliments. She didn't consider herself much of a talented fighter. Half a mind was she willing to tell him that she pretty much had been close to just dropping her weapons and try to make a run for it. His last comment about being split in two didn't make it easier for her to reply back. A twinge of guilt came up as she remembered she hadn't been able to fight and be a shield for him - preventing any injury to be landed.
As he wanted to continue talking - something she was still grateful as she wasn't sure what to talk or say - a soldier spoke up. Yumeji's right eyebrow perked up by a bit as she saw more people approaching.
"Let's get out of here," Yumeji said, patting Toshi's shoulder. She felt like this was some situation that neither she or he were eager or ready for.

Turning around, she lowered her head and attempted to just get back or in any manner away from the chaos. She frowned for a moment as she did stop and try to see if Toshi was following her. The confusion came from the fact she didn't know much about him. Why would she need to care about him? He wasn't a kin of her nor anybody she remotely knew.
Yet, she waited as she tried to spot him from the ongoing chaos. For a second Yumeji wondered if her cover had fallen. The days of pretending to just be a soldier, work to remain in a low profile and gain trust. Was that now all lost?

Having lost sight of Yumeji, Toshi spun around once trying to spot where she had run off to before simply deciding to try and make his way through one of the thinner sides of the crowd.

Pushing his way through the mass of bodies he finally found himself free of the mass and much to his surprise rather close to Yumeji who had yet to notice her. Taking off at a quick jog he continued running past Yumeji and grabbed her upper arm pulling her away from the group at a brisk pace. "Hey long time no see right?" he said jokingly as he pulled her along, "Maybe food isn't the best idea, at least not together... After all of that.".

He let go of her arm and continued walking, "Probably a better idea to just go our separate ways and try and find whoever we want to check up on alone." with that he stopped in his tracks,"Medical tents are this way... That's where I'll be going." he kicked at some dirt as he looked into the distance of the camp, a pained expression under his scarf.

Taken by the arm Yumeji wanted to jerk her arm free as a reflex. Hearing, however, that it was Toshi she would walk with him. A little smile crept on her lips as he made a casual joke.
When he commented that food wasn't the best idea now, her lips already parted to ask what was then the best idea. Hearing him state that it wasn't at least a good idea to eat together Yumeji threw a worried look in his direction. She understood why he had said that but wasn't really feeling happy about it.
"Oh..." She said, barely even attempting to hide her disappointment. Looking at the tents he pointed out, Yumeji rubbed her left shoulder for a moment.

"I suppose that I should then just try to find my way to euhm... somebody. Perhaps we can share some rations later." Yumeji half-joked. She remembered something and while she wasn't a big fan it was now a bit different. Raising her right hand up as a fist towards Toshi, a smile dawned back on the teen's lips.
"Thanks, though. For back then. Didn't yet thank you for the help. Don't want to think what would've happened if you hadn't been such a great help, Toshi."

Feeling a pang of guilt as Yumeji spoke, Toshi pushed his face further into his scarf in an attempt to hide himself from the girl. "Sorry to dissapoint... I just don't think it's that great an idea to be walking around together after all that--" he pointed back toward the group, "--Especially not somewhere as crowded as the galley tents." he turned back toward the chuunin and took a moment to breath before speaking again.

"I guess we could share some rations another time." he said with a small laugh, "But I'd much rather share a real meal with you." the tone of his voice was easy going and open, very much accepting her mock invitation as a real one.

Looking off towards the tents that his comrades were currently healing in he didn't bother looking at Yumeji as he answered her thanks, "Just doing my job..." he said with a small smile, "I don't know what I would have been if you hadn't had the guts to face that thing down in the first place. Most likely we'd all be done for, so I should be the one thanking you for forcing me to act." still facing away from Yumeji he raised an arm and gave her a wave before ducking in between two tents, moving off in the direction of the medical tents.

She shook her head lightly before she would speak back to Toshi. A smile was present on her lips as her hands would be placed on her hips. "Don't be sorry. Nothing that we could've anticipated. Think we were both a bit too busy with dealing with that... thing than considering how others would treat us afterwards."
She paused, briefly, as she considered something. "Perhaps we could use our new-found influence to gain something better than the rations? A bit of wine that the higher ranked officers probably have? Who knows? Maybe next time we can see what we can do with our fame?" She half-joked, trying to lighten his mood up as she started to feel guilty as well. Certainly after how she had let him talk for the two of them just because she hadn't been in a real talkative mood before.

"Hey---" She tried to shout as he ran off, Yumeji still stood still with her fist stretched out. Lowering her fist Yumeji watched him off, huffing. Turning around on her heels she wondered if she could consider Toshi as a friend. What was that saying again? You find your true friends in the hour of peril? Something like that. While walking Yumeji already considered if she should seek out how her sibling was doing or get some more rest for herself.[/fieldbox]
