Headphone Jack: A Gang/Music RP ♬♪ Signups & OOC

Hey all,

I realize I just made that announcement about PMing everyone for posts weekly but just being bluntly honest here, I'm really tired out. This RP has been a lot more effort than I initially planned and it feels like trying to keep it alive is way more energy than I should be expending on it.

So for anyone who wants to actively continue this rp, please reply here saying so. I will take all the people who did this by Friday, 23 June, and create a new plot line / course of action (and possibly even a new private thread for us) in place of all the characters who would no longer be involved. If nobody replies, then I will keep posting in the IC if someone is waiting on one of my characters, but I won't be bugging anyone for replies ever, so the thread most likely will quietly die from inactivity if its recent history is anything to go by.
And if everyone replies, then maybe we can all laugh about this later.

Additionally, I have stopped actively recruiting people for the rp (as of today).

A lot of this is my fault. I've made like a billion missteps GMing this and I apologize for that. I've tried to change and improve but at this point it feels like I spend more time bugging people to post than actually posting. I don't like doing that and I'm sure people who aren't too interested in continuing would prefer to quietly drop the rp.

It's been a fun run and I'm thankful to everyone who played and helped me learn to GM through this experience. I'll do 1x1s if anyone's interested in that.
I may remake this rp in the future, but I'm really too tired of the concept right now to pull a total reset of it at the current time.

If you want to run something based on this concept, feel free to "steal" the idea. I hope you're successful! Maybe I can join? xP

I've learned a lot through this experience and will try to not make the same mistakes in other RPs I try to GM. Thank you everyone who has played, enjoyed the RP concept, and/or stuck with me through all of my fumbling.

Is anyone interested in playing Rye's brother? Because if not I am going to go ahead and make the sheet for him and start playing him.
I do play him a certain way, but I left the option open for others to do whatever-- you don't have to do what I would do if you wanted to play him.

Sidenote:
Added a blurb in the first post about GMs and influential characters. Edited rules slightly by adding better description of the "post styles" rule.
Also I recently re-read my long lore post and oh my god that thing is terrible. D:
I will have to rewrite it. Hopefully soon.

ANOTHER QUESTION FOR EVERYONE:
Do you like everything being defined by you guys or do you want me to take more of a leadership role and start defining things (locations etc) for you?

Bio: Shikumon was born with a sense of justice, like his father was. Like most men who follow their fathers footsteps, or try other things or better yet, new things. Since he was a child, he didn't get to see much of his father, as he goes out on duties to protect the city from bad asses, and go getters. Shikumon didn't really like how things are going with society, as theirs crimes happening every day, and everywhere on the hour, and people like his father serves the clefs to try to maintain order.

He finds his job quite cool, and honorable, as he would wish to do the same. Shikumon was born in the suburban area of o town, not something to brag about, as it's sometimes hard to live out there. Many violence lurk among the streets, as shikumon had to learn the hard way. Fight his way through tough acts, and punks.

Shikumon decided to move to musica when he was 16, that's where the shit goes down, as its a quite big place right next to headphone. When shikumon turned 19 he decided that he should join the forces, as he felt like he was well capable of handling bad guys, and other idiots. After serving for about five years, he became a local guard at one of the prisons that keeps people such as the gangs known as elec, numetals and whatever. Drug dealers, you name it.

He sometimes wonder around the streets as well.

Re: Rye's brother: Do you have the important bits of his background written up or would you think about doing that together with someone, if another is interested in playing him? Since he's so important to Rye's background and he's involved to a large degree with what has already been written.

Re: Background detail, etc.: To some degree, it'd make sense for there to be some continuity for often-used settings, I think. Like the gang's HQs, etc. Granted, those details don't need to necessarily be written by you, but maybe compiled as reference? Either by you or a volunteer or...

Musica is a country, O Town is a city in that country. So if Shikumon was born in O Town, then he's been in Musica all his life and would not need to move there. Could you edit that? Otherwise your character is good. =]

Sure.
Ryan's brother is older than Rye (So 28+). He comes from a family of aristocrats and/or politicians. He was an extremely good lawyer, and when Ryan got picked up by the clefs, decided to represent him. He got Ryan declared not guilty and saved him from Reformation. But afterward, resigned from being a lawyer [spoili]Because he was embarrassed by the case or maybe he was forced to?[/spoili] He's incredibly intelligent, had valuable connections (at least in the past), and protected his younger brother (at least in the past).
After Rye was let out of prison, the family abandoned him. Whether or not Ryan's brother actually feels the same way is up to you. It could be that he doesn't associate with Rye to save his public image. What Rye's brother does now, and his personality, is also up to you. But my idea was that he was some high ranking officer (maybe even the head) of the Clef organization. But you definitely don't have to do that, you can feel free to do something totally different.
There's a lot of room for creativity in here. He could like music secretly, he could hate music, he could love his bro and want to protect him, he could hate and resent Rye because he lost his lawyer gig. All sorts of options.

re: setting details
Well that's what I meant, if players wrote it, it would become canon and we could have continuity. But if that seems unfeasible then I could write it for everyone to use.
 
Trying to be more detailed in my posts, hope it makes sense. Trying to get my creativity running...it's been a few years... XD

Bio: Olympia was born in Headphone, but before she was five years old her parents disappeared and she was sent to live with her aunt and uncle in Musica. Since she was younger than five she has a tie. Olympia does not remember much from her days in Headphone, and didn't make too many acquaintances growing up in Musica. Her sour aunt barely cared for the child while she grew up, only making sure she had what she really needed, since she never intended on caring for a child. Her uncle however would give Olympia small but meaningful trinkets and treats when he could. "Don't spoil the child, she will rot from the inside out if you give her anything else" the aunt would always threaten her husband. But the uncle never really did listen.
Olympia had a talent for being fairly creative and always enjoyed drawing (even if it got her into trouble every once in a while). She showed pictures to her uncle who would take time to admire her works. Her aunt however was not impressed by her niece's talents for the longest time. In school, Olympia was considered well-behaved and smart, a "well-rounded student" her teacher once said. She took an interest in architecture and drafting, since it took her talents and mixed them.
Her aunt decided to exploit her talents. She sent Olympia to the outskirts of Musica's capital, to a school specific for architects. It was great for the young girl at first, but she quickly found she wasn't well suited to the school. But her aunt guilt tripped her into staying. A few months into the school, Olympia's uncle died and she was sent a letter from her aunt forbidding her return, but when she got a proper job she was to repay her aunt every last cent she paid for school and the small house Olympia stayed in. Because of course, with the education Olympia has, she "HAS to get a good job". The stress of the school and her aunt breathing down her neck for payments quickly worked on her head.
One day, while spacing out by her window (it often replaced sleeping hours), Olympia heard a shrill noise that about split her head as her tie painfully vibrated. She held her head in pain but suppressed her cries. She managed to look out her window, where in the distance she saw a group of people who many civilians would consider to be hooligans and trouble makers. Olympia had a slight respect for rebellious people, as she always wanted to be rebellious but was always too timid to face the consequences. The group seemed to be enjoying the sounds they created... or were they being played? Olympia couldnt tell because of the ringing tie. But the people looked happy doing something everyone knew was wrong. She decided to let the group be and head to her bed and place a pillow over her ears.
That night she thought, "is it possible that there is a sound that can make me happy?" Right before falling asleep

Olympia is a usually quiet character, who is curious but accepting to many concepts outside of her own bubble. Her ability to handle pressure depends on the situation. She cannot take social pressure, but she can work fairly well in an emergency situation that requires action. She does not like letting the people she trusts down. She is usually adaptable to the situation, and doesn't like keeping set plans. (She would be considered an infp, and her enneatypes would be 4, 5, and 9)

Her appearance would be akin to that of dogkeeper from no. 6, but a little more clean and girly

Sorry I've been so quiet myself.

I'll be writing Rye's brother's profile, and one for Lotario. Figure while Lotario isn't a super involved character, it'd still make sense for me to play him as a character rather than shoving him off as an NPC, so others can have a more involved interaction with him if they want. Also, got some ideas.

I finally rewrote the introductory lore post. You don't have to read it as none of the real details have changed. I just wanted to make it look a bit nicer and also the original writing in that post was subpar. So now it's all good! =]

I still want to make a clef character. I had some hangups but I think I've got it now.

Also another question for everyone

Do you want a dedicated (separate) thread for member-created contributions to the lore?
What I mean is, sort of like a wiki of all the details we've done. For example, the Mean Bean has quickly become something everyone should know about. So should the person who created the Mean bean make a sort of wiki entry about what it is in this (proposed) new lore thread?

Sorry if that's super confusing. I hope you get what I mean!
 
I think this wiki is a great idea as long as people take it seriously and give a lot of detail so everything is clear.

@Katrina Iceheart I really like your character! Do you think she could have some interactions with my boy later down the line?

I'll write one for the Elec HQ, too, even though it hasn't been mentioned yet. That way @Shavynel and @Lost-and-Bewildered can visit it without having to wait on Rae, who will probably be busy for the next few posts interviewing Aren?

Lots to have Ki react to? I had to make an outline last time for Rae, tbh. Just to make sure I wrote her reacting in the right sequence of events. Do you need help organizing/getting a summary that'd be relevant for your chara?

You can run through all of Ki's reactions from the library when the fight went down - this is what makes the post summaries so useful!
Have Ki get the kids out of the library after the fight when the library closed, and then either do your own thing or head to NuMetal HQ.
Ki can be at Nu HQ with Alex (@Nim ) and be able to partake in the song? They could hang out.

Or Ki could come by later and interrupt Rye's meeting with Leena (@CaribbeanGirl )?

Or ditch all that, have Ki follow the Clef that broke up the fight (@PlainJoe )?

You could also follow Fritz (@Obsessive Compulsive )? You might recognize him as a student?

There are so many options, really. Could even go to the Mean Bean to relax... Even though it happens to be full of Elecs right now lol.

Everyone making an entry for their characters' workplaces would probably be a good idea, now that I think about it. =]
