"Dang it!" Shouko cursed as her smoke bomb sailed off target. A pall of smoke soon rose from where the canister landed- it didn't obscure the archers' vision at all. At least it still worked, Shouko lamented bitterly.

Tian-Gui leapt into action, ensuring that the smoke bomb wasn't to waste. He dashed in an arc into the smoke, emerging from the other side seconds later to tackle one of the archers. Shouko was still amazed by the man's courage. Or insanity.

With the rest of the group returning fire with their own weaponry and spells, Shouko let loose an arrow at her target as well. As soon as she released the bowstring, Shouko reached for the next arrow.

Tian-Gui almost blacked out as an arrow drove itself through his leg at an angle, punching through steel, flesh, and bone all in one go. Gnashing his teeth violently to suppress his urge to scream, the grappler wasn't even able to take a breath before the next arrow drove itself into his flank, dropping his HP down to dangerous levels, as the other gremlin drew out a sword.

His muscles locked in place however, his experience against taking down zombies regardless of their swarm tactics paying off hugely. Even as his mind spasmed from the massive amounts of pain, the archer he had underneath him was locked down, and the very fact that another archer drew out his sword meant that his allies were now free to fire their projectiles without fear of a counterattack.

In the corner of his eye, an arrow dealt the killing blow to a Gremling Archer, and Tian-Gui smiled.

Nice shooting, Shouko.

With a grunt, he flipped the tables on the four-foot gremlin, raising it up over his own form as a shield. His blue eyes smouldered, tracing the movements of the swordsgremling, prepared to his buddy to protect himself now.

"Aha! My plan worked like a charm." Alex was pretty sure he wasn't fooling anyone, least not the others. He was starting to buy into his own delusion though.

He watched as the others started to make their moves too, and an Idea struck him. Inspired by Xenon. Alex grinned as he pulled out his knife in one hand, attempting to not draw attention to it, as he whispered the command. "Mana thread." Attaching his mana to his blade. He moved forward in a quick burst stopping to hold up his other hand as he imitated Xenon, "Mana Bolt!" He shouted. Hoping they would expect to try to avoid such an attack, Alex threw his knife with his other hand.

The arrow shot from Shouko's bow sails through the air, impacting deep into the Gremling's chest at the end of its path, the creature vanishing in both a loud cry and a poof of black, eldritch vapor, the arrow that impacted it also vanishing with the creature, as if in its final act of defiance it took the arrow with it. In its place though fell six of the same barbed iron arrows it had been using. So those would be a good replacement for the arrow that Shouko lost just now. All of the new Gamers earned 2 EXP for this kill.

Alexander, in the meantime, would try a bit of a feint strategy. These creatures did seem to possess some modicum of intelligence after all. They weren't mindless beasts like the Zombies, but rather possessed intelligence like the Imps, if not a bit greater than that. So perhaps a bit of a feint could fool them as he attached his Mana Thread to his held knife then quickly threw it whilst pretending to do something else, pushing his body to a temporary limit as he had to move as fast as he can, which would make his attack and act a small bit sloppy.

Feint
5 + 25 Swiftness Penalty - 6 Charisma = 24

The Gremling seemed to be fooled by the feint. What it thought was going to be a bolt of blue energy, was actually a knife that was flying at it attached to a thread, and naturally the creature was caught off guard and not able to properly dodge the spontaneous attack.

Alexander's Knife Throw
22 + 50 Swiftness Penalty - 10 Distance Bonus - 10 Accuracy = 52

The throw was rather well executed despite Alexander not really having any experience with throwing knives. Plus the fact that he caught the Gremling Off Guard did help, a red 11 appearing above the creature's head as the knife stuck into the creature's flank as it let out a loud cry, the knife still connected to Alexander by a thread, so perhaps he could either keep it in there or yank it out to inflict a bit more damage.

While it was by no means a kill, Alexander would see two familiar looking windows appear before him. Three actually. One stating that his Mana Thread Skill had gone up in Level by 1. The other two, however; were a bit new. And of course since he was in combat, they would appear in the upper corner of his vision as to not get in the way.
A Skill has been created through a special action. By successfully fooling an enemy with a feint, the ability to better catch opponents off guard, Feint, has been created.
Feint (Rank 10, Special) (Level 1, 0/3)
You know how to properly perform a feint to throw an enemy off guard. As such, whenever you are performing a Feint your Charisma Score is increased by 5%. If your Feint is successful, then your opponent will be thrown Off Guard and unable to properly defend themselves.

You can then either attack as part of your Feint, which will decrease your accuracy (As that would be a Free Attack), or wait a moment to then execute a proper attack. Your Accuracy when attacking after a successful Feint is increased by 1 regardless, and you deal 5% more Damage.

For each additional Feint you perform though on the same target or a different target that has seen through this ability will decrease your chances of performing a successful Feint against said target by 5.

Essentially, it would be a Skill that utilized both his Lying and Charisma Talent Skills. An effective way to grind those abilities in combat.

[fieldbox="Xenon Zhu, red, solid"]The battle continued with full force, each gamer letting out their own attacks on the gremlins. When the red haired teen heard Alex yell out, "Mana bolt!" he had immediately expected a blue bolt to fly, only to see a sailing knife bury itself into one of the enemies. Xenon smiled, inwardly applauding the older gamer. As a performer, he reserved a deep appreciation of flair and showmanship around the clock.

But praise aside, Tian Gui was in need of some dire help. Xenon rushed in again, this time getting into melee range to execute an attack with his katars on the gremlin that Alex had knifed.[/fieldbox]

Shouko was delighted to watch her first shot strike squarely into its target, dealing enough damage to finish the creature off. Her confidence levels shot up. The girl took aim at the next monster, who had switched to a sword and was advancing on Tian-Gui.

Maybe I'm actually good at this?

Shouko smirked when she noticed Tian-Gui had lifted his opponent as a meat shield. It was a very effective move, and now the rest of the group could gun down the lone, defenseless gremlin. Once her hands were steady, she fired another arrow.

The fact that it had the knife stuck in it, meant that it couldn't really move as properly unless it chose to try and dodge backwards. It was going to rely on its blade skills to try and parry Xenon, so that way it could stay close to its original target and stab Tian-Gui, as while Xenon approached the creature puts up its blade in preparation to parry Xenon's attacks.

Attack 1
4 + 25 Distance Penalty - 5 Katar Use (Novice) = 16

The first blow of the punching dagger hit dead on, a red 24 appearing above the creature's head with this first attack, and utilizing his second dagger he would go in for a quick offhand jab.

Offhand Attack 1
25 + 25 Off-Hand Penalty - 5 Katar Use (Novice) - 25 Distance Bonus = 20

Once again the dagger hit its target head on, the offhand strike however not dealing as much damage. It only dealt a simple 9 damage. However; damage was damage. Plus it would put Xenon that much closer to being able to either finish the beast or allow one of the others to finish the beast.

Attack 2
68 + 20 Second Attack Penalty - 5 Katar Use (Novice) - 25 Distance Bonus = 58

While the attack wasn't as deep as last time, Xenon still managed to strike a deep blow into the creature still stuck on the knife, gnashes of pain escaping from it with each attack as 18 points of damage are dealt to the beast. Hopefully Xenon's next attack would either finish it off or make it very easy for someone else to finish it off.

Offhand Attack 2
84 + 20 Second Attack + 25 Offhand Penalty - 5 Katar Use (Novice) - 25 Distance Bonus = 79

Unfortunately for Xenon, his second swift offhand strike was a bit poorly executed, and thus was quickly parried back by the Gremlin's shortsword. Still, Xenon had managed to deal a very healthy supply of damage to him and even gained a level in Katar Use once the rush of attacks was finished, which also netted him another point of EXP. Overall, a very successful attack, even if it didn't manage to finish the creature off, Xenon still had other teammates who could.

Rei decided to move as he quickly did the same thing he did before. The arrow stuck in his side would vanish in a flash of blue static, turning into a small, arrow shaped projectile of magical energy. Then it would be fired forth at the sword wielding Gremlin. The mystical arrow would zoom right past Xenon, slamming into the creature, a red 21 appearing above its head as it let out another angry gnash of pain.

However it was merely down. Not out.

Rather than move to finish that off though, Rei had other plans. He would quickly chant "Set 1!" as he moved towards Tian and the Gremlin on top of him in a few quick, fluid strides. Rei was quite fast on his feet, definitely faster than the average, or even slightly above average, human. Either way, Rei definitely had physical capabilities that were above normal humans at this point.

As he chanted 'Set 1', he would be donned once again in a hoodie, blue jeans, and sneakers. On his hands would be a pair of familiar looking gauntlets, the ones with the crystal orbs mounted into the tops. Only this time, as he clenched his fists and stiffened his arms, a shortsword length, dark green blade extended from beneath his sleeves, the blades covering the crystalline orbs.

Once close enough, he would slash at the held creature with one of the dark green blades. The blade slashed into the creature dead on as it struggled in Tian's grasp. A red 35 and a dark green and orange 15 appeared above the creature's head, as not only did the blade cut into the creature deep, but the creature's wound would be immolated with a dark green, orange fire as it writhed in agony in Tian's grasp. Tian would be able to feel the immense, ominous heat of this strange flame, but took no damage from the attack.

However it was merely down, not out. Now a second slash came from Rei's offhand weapon. Since Rei was already close, despite this attack coming from his offhand, it would be better performed and would slash right deep into the creature's chest. It barely managed to let out a scream before its body was destroyed with both the powerful slash and a burst of that same dark green flame, the same 15 from before appearing, only this time a red 45 accompanied it.

A bow would be atop of Tian in place of the Gremlin. The same bow that it had been holding before.

However, now it was time for the beasts to move. Rather than go for the one who could attack it, the beast decided to go for the one still down on its feet. Since it was already close to Tian to begin with, since it didn't move at all from Xenon's onslaught, it could easily bare its sword down upon Tian. Especially since he no longer had a meat shield.

Needless to say, the meat shield wouldn't have even mattered. In an uncanny display of grace and skill, the beast struck right for Tian's vitals and through both skill and luck, the blade struck true. With that precise, deadly strike a bright 35 Critical! appeared above Tian's head as his HP rocketed down to a mere -1. If there was going to be any time for second wind to be activated, now would be the time.

However the beast didn't let up. Instead he struck twice in a swift second slash. This would drop Tian's HP down to a very nasty -21 as the attack did 20 damage. He wasn't at that death threshold yet though. Still, -21 HP was a nasty place to be, especially since it was a little under halfway there to that threshold of death.

Hopefully Shouko's arrow would strike true, so that they could quickly tend to Tian. Regardless of whether or not Second Wind activated, they would need to heal him as soon as possible in case more enemies showed up.

Shouko's Arrow
92 - 5 Bow Use (Novice) - 10 Distance Bonus = 77

Unfortunately perhaps Shouko got a bit cocky? Regardless, the arrow not only missed its mark, but, it also barely missed Xenon as well. If Shouko had been shooting from a bit further back, then there is a chance she most likely would have hit Xenon. Thankfully the arrow just sailed harmlessly past them, landing on the ground some fifteen yards past the fighting.

All that was left now was one Gremlin, and whether or not Tian could recover and activate Second Wind, or if he would be down for the rest of this fight.

Even as its companion fell in front of it, the Gremlin swordsman did not pause to mourn, or even lash out against the one that slew it or the one that damaged it so badly. Single-mindedly aiming for Tian-Gui, it struck twice, two blows that dug deep into the large man's flesh. The raven-haired grappler almost hissed in pain, but then, suddenly, he blacked out.

Ah, his HP had dropped below zero.

It was over.

LIKE HELL IT WAS!

From within, a golden flame ignited once more, the same source of power he used to shatter Rei's Pseudospace all those weeks past. Eyes snapping wide open, Tian-Gui felt that familiar, yet unfamiliar rush of power overflow his veins, as he forced himself awake. It was the razor's edge, the borderline between life and death, but it was also the edge that he craved. Splendid! Glorious! To think that he could test out his Heroic Second Wind already!

The Gremlin squawked in surprise as the giant it had struck twice rose up from the grave, fragments of chainmail still clinging onto his muscular body. A third blow then! A third and then a fourth to properly put down this undying beast! With a screech, it reared its sword back, cleaving downwards with frenetic might.

A thunk resounded. Not from steel against flesh, but flesh against flesh.

Thrust away at an arm's length, the Gremlin's face was squashed in the powerful grip of Tian-Gui. Its limbs flailed uselessly as it was lifted up into the air.

"Takedown."

Leaping upwards with all his might, Tian-Gui rotated at the apex of his jump and, still grabbing onto the Gremlin's face, smashed it into the dirt. A crack resounded, before the damage was dealt and the beast was slain, its body splattering into red pixels. Three barbed arrows remained, the same that were still stuck in his body.

Despite the short bout, Tian-Gui still found himself breathing heavily. His mind was getting hazy, and the HP loss was getting to him, even though the pain kept unconscious at bay for the moment. Picking up the three arrows that were dropped, the raven-haired youth clenched his fist and said, "Hell yeah! Counterambush successful!"

Doing high-fives all around with a large grin, he walked up towards Shouko next and said, offering those three arrows, "Nice shooting, Shouko! Probably couldn't have downed it without your arrows, yea? Keep up t-"

Tian-Gui's eyes dulled and he fell face-first into…

Indeed. Tian-Gui's armor would need a large amount of repair after this. Not to mention that, even when fully prepared, it would still have suffered some permanent damage. Judging from the looks of it, the armor had permanently lost three points of AR, especially since the Critical Strikes he endured really did a number on his armor. Fortunately it hadn't been destroyed though, which probably would have happened after just one more strike. So once he awoke, he probably would need to take it off until he could find the time to repair it.

Of course, if Tian had been struck one more time, it probably would have meant his death. The loot from this encounter being nine of the same sharp, barbed arrows the Gremlin's used and one of their bows.

Still, with the last Gremlin defeated a window would appear before each of the Gamers.
You have managed to thwart the ambush, and thus have gained more experience from this.
+5 EXP, +1 AP

And there was even a small treasure chest that appeared not too far away from them.

"Don't touch that chest, it could be a trap". These were the words Rei said without hesitation as he walked over to Tian-Gui's unconscious body.

Of course, Rei was more interested in healing Tian-Gui at the moment so that the arrows inside of him didn't Bleed him out. Those were his first priority. So naturally he walks over to Tian-Gui, glad that the man fell on his face so that he didn't break the arrows off inside of him, since they were all in his back or side. He does the same thing he did with the five arrows stuck inside of him to the three arrows inside of Tian. After all, Rei was worried that if he pulled them out it would do even more damage and thus kill Tian-Gui. Magically making them disappear was a much safer solution, the three magical arrows that appeared being sent into a tree.

Next Rei used "Spiritual Recovery", a light bluish aura appearing around him as he took a breath in, then let it out. Then he placed his hands upon Tian and began to use "Spiritual Regeneration". This Skill, while a healing Skill, relied upon increasing the target's Regeneration and also used alot of MP. So while Tian would soon awaken after about a minute, it took around ten minutes for Tian to be fully healed.

"You need to take off your Armor now. Its nearly destroyed. Also you're an idiot you know that? You nearly got yourself killed by charging in like that. You didn't have your Armor to rely upon, so you could have very easily died." Rather than saying some words of praise for Tian's amazing display, Rei instead is choosing to scold Tian for rushing in without any sort of plan. Without any Armor.

Of course, they were still inside of the Pseudospace, and it didn't seem to change. "Anyway. Until we are out of this, we all should be in the same party. Invite me to the party, and then make me Leader." With that, Rei stands up now and heads over to the chest, wondering just what could be inside of it. Curious, he clenches one of his arms to let the blade extend from the gauntlet, tapping the chest with the blade.

A stack of yen bills, equaling 50,000 Yen stood there. As well as what appeared to be five golden coins. Rei put the Yen in his inventory for now. He had no idea what the coins were for. Another form of currency? Regardless, he also stuck those in his inventory. They could split the loot later. For now they needed to figure out how to get out of this situation. There were also two red potions. Rei examined those for a few moments, confirming that they were healing potions, setting those aside to give to the others.

The fourth item appeared to be a bow, only this one was a shortbow more meant for the larger hands of a human. It was wooden in base, but had pieces of iron upon it, and appeared to have a much more taught string. Definitely an Item for their resident archer. The final item was a long, curved dagger that seemed to be almost long enough to be a shortsword. Despite its crude design, it appeared to be incredibly sharp.

Rei examined them both for a moment, before picking up all of the items. To Alexander, he gave the dagger. "If you haven't unlocked your talent for daggers, do it now. You need a Melee Weapon, whether you like it or not. Because without one, you literally have no means of dealing sufficient damage. Furthermore, that strategy you did with the thread and the knife was smart, and having skill in daggers could help with more of that". Plus the kitchen knives he had were definitely not meant for this type of thing.

When Alexander received the dagger, the following window would appear before him, revealing its stats. Its damage was very nice for a dagger. Plus the apparent enchantments it had upon it were also, while not that great, definitely great for the fact that he didn't have anything that was enchanted currently.
Hunters Ranging Dagger (Rank 10, Dagger, Enchanted)
This sharp, slightly curved blade is definitely meant for the hunting type. Its fast, accurate, and seems a bit easier to throw than normal daggers, perhaps thanks to its design and its minor enchantments. +5 HP to the holder.
Max Damage (Melee): 18
Max Damage (Thrown): 18 + 4 + 3 = 25
Damage Mod (Melee): 5 + 8 = 13
Damage Mod (Thrown): 5
Accuracy (Melee): 8/-12
Accuracy
(Thrown): 8 + 3 = 11
Parry Defense: 8
Attack Speed: 1 + 1 = 2
Critical Chance: 1 + 2 = 3%

To Tian, Rei handed one potion, and to Shouko the other, which is when he also gives her the bow. Its stats were definitely better than her current bow. Of course, it did require much better stats than what Shouko possessed. She did have a bunch of unspent AP after all. Perhaps this would be a good time to use some if she wanted to wield the bow right away.
Iron Clad Shortbow (Rank 10, Bow, Enchanted)
This wooden shortbow has pieces of iron along its surface, allowing it to be pulled back more to also deliver more powerful, more accurate shots from a distance. Its quite the power house of a bow, but it does require a strong arm to use it. It also possesses a couple of minor enchantments. +2 Resilience.
Requires: Bow Use, DEX 10, STR 10
Max Damage: 30
Range: 30 Yards
Damage Mod: Depends on Ammunition
Accuracy (Novice): 5 (Bow Use) + 3 = 8
Critical Chance: 2 + 2 = 4%

Some strangely good loot. Rei looked as if he was deep in thought, until suddenly in a flash of light and a fanfare of trumpets, a strange looking figure appeared. He appeared to be... a jester? That was the obvious choice. The floating jester had a pair of golden wings, only the wing's golden bones were there. In place of actual fabric or flesh, like normal wings would have, were floating, gem like particles of light. He appeared to have quite the amused grin on his face as he was... applauding them with claps.

The World-Bound Jester
Arcadia, Lv ???

"Congratulations on passing the preliminaries. You all did just as I expected, and that finish... It was ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL!" The man, in a rather flashy poof of confetti and light, appears next to Tian. "So wonderful, that I must give you a reward, my good Grappler". He would tap on Tian's armor, static like particles appearing around it for a few moments, before the armor seemed to repair itself. It wasn't fully repaired of course.

The permanent damaged AR was still lost, but at least it was back up to 12 AR.

Naturally Rei had one blade ready, and his other hand was aiming at the jester the entire time, a dark glare on Rei's features.

"Mmm, such a dark glare from you little boy~" The man seems to teleport once again, appearing behind Rei, sliding one of his hands along his face. "You'll ruin your cute fa--"

Naturally this was met with a slash of his blade towards the jester as Rei quickly spins around. The sword makes impact, but rather than cutting into the jester it hits a solid, invisible barrier surrounding the jester, who just clicks his tongue. "Now now, that wasn't very nice. Naughty children should be... punished~"

Rei's eyes widen, and he can't even raise his hands in time to guard as Arcadia suddenly moves back half a yard, before thrusting his palm towards Rei. What appears to be a baseball sized sphere of darkness materializes from his hand, blasting Rei in the chest. In a loud cry of pain, as a black 340 appears above Rei's head, he is blasted backwards ten yards, rolling on the ground once he lands, stopping in a heap at fifteen yards away. He is breathing heavily, eyes widened in shock as his entire body is racked with immense pain and agony.

"Of course, I did restore that lost energy of yours, so you should be a grateful child and listen instead of shooting me such awful, dirty looks". It is clear that, if he could do... whatever he did, to Rei just like that, then the Gamers really did have no choice but to shut up and listen.

"I like all of you. You're much more interesting than all of the other weaklings I have invited into my games. That's why I made your rewards a little nicer than the others. Aren't I such a good person?!" He just lets out a laugh that sounds like the jingling of keys. "Anyway. Time is slowed down here by half, so you need not worry about running out of time today. Right now, without that pesky Void Wizard in the way, the Port Island District is under my complete control. So feel free to explore around, take in the sights, and fight whatever, and whoever, you see."

Void Wizard? Rei had no idea who that was... but Tian did. According to Sumi, the Void Wizard was an immensely powerful individual. Did this mean this 'Arcadia' got rid of the Void Wizard? And perhaps, as Sumi said, them training out in the open is what got them into this mess. Especially since the mastermind behind this mess was able to blast their most powerful member, Rei, away with just one hit, without breaking a sweat.

"In 24 hours, or by midnight since time is slowed, the first 'Round' shall begin. And of course, every two hours more monsters will appear, and they will be a bit stronger. Of course, if you find any large chests in the area, you can take those lovely Gold Coins, or other things you find, and exchange them for money or other cool prizes! So take your time and enjoy yourselves my dear chickadees!~" With that, the man vanished. A window now appeared before each of the New Gamers.

Rei stood up now, clutching his side as he panted heavily, walking back over to the group, a purplish aura surrounding him, similar to the one that appeared when the New Gamers had gotten his health down low before, the aura fading by the time he walked over to them. "So that's... what an attack from a Level 60 person feels like..." Rei sighed heavily. "Well... if we do fight him, as he said my MP was restored, so we know that one of his attacks depends on lost Mana. How... I don't know." Still, an attack like that... was suicide for a Mage. If it could deal damage based on lost Mana. How absolutely broken.

"Still. I don't think we can bust out of here. This barrier seems several times stronger than the ones that Bosses conjure. So our choices are to either explore Port Island and see what we can find... including fighting more enemies and... other contestants... or to stay here and grind our Skills until something comes to us." Rei was deep in thought, trying to figure out their best course of action. Of course, he began to use Spiritual Regeneration on himself as well to heal his lost HP as he thought, and Spiritual Recovery as well to at least try and make the MP/Minute cost of Spiritual Regeneration a bit lower once he had enough HP to activate Spiritual Recovery.

Either way, the Arcadia Games have begun!

Wow, he just got up and Rei was already complaining? A small chuckle passed through Tian-Gui's lips as he got up unsteadily, coughing up phlegm as Rei's healing magic did its work. Slowly, his HP began rising once more and he sighed. He had, indeed, been close to death, but what mattered was the fact that he hadn't actually died.

"Don't stress about it," he said with a laugh, "I'm not going to die that easily, and charging in was totally intentional, you know? I effectively removed one of the archers from combat, and forced the other two to focus on me, who had the most HP, so, in return, everyone else didn't get hurt from that exchange."

Flexing his undamaged biceps, Tian-Gui continued, "Anyways, near death situations are what Second Wind is meant for, right?"

It looked like Rei tired of chasitising him, though, as the white-haired Gamer moved on to start bitching at others about practically everything. Taking a look at the shredded remains of his chainmail, Tian-Gui wondered how long it would take to patch everything up, before finally just shrugging. Maybe he'll just get some new armor at this point, and wear this solely for grinding his Toughness. Made sense to have more than one type of armor, after all!

Setting up the party while Rei looked around for loot to grab, Tian-Gui reformed the glorious Team JUSTICE once more, sans Kyousuke, and was content to simply sit around and wonder what was going on, when trumpets resounded and a jester descended, applauding their efforts and restoring his chainmail as well. Before Tian-Gui could thank this 'Arcadia', however, Rei decided it was smart to attack a person so high-level that their level read as ???.

Which, of course, resulted in the white-haired boy getting tossed aside like a used condom after 340 points of damage practically shredded through him.

Tian-Gui's eyes widened in shock, but it looked like Rei didn't die, at least, and there was definitely no way that he'd really be able to do anything against that monster. Not when the Void Wizard that should have been guarding the Port Island District was disabled. Biting his lower lip, Tian-Gui could only watch as a new quest popped up and Arcadia disappear, before whipping out his phone. If time was slowed by half, they had no way of calling someone, but, at the very least, he could text, right? Pulling out his cellphone, he looked up Sumi's phone number, before texting a simple message.

The Gamers are stuck in Pseudospace within the Port Island District. Someone called Arcadia has removed the Void Wizard and is now in control. Are you in the area? Any advice?

With that sent, Tian-Gui said, cheerily, "Well, it's basically a festival, isn't it? I'd say let's go around and search for those monsters and chests. If we just leave them be, the saturation of monsters will increase and it'll be harder to deal with large numbers, right?"

Then, he smirked at Rei.

"Also, you're an idiot, you know that? You nearly got yourself killed by charging in like that. You were going up against a monstrously powerful individual, so you could have very easily died."

"You're phone probably won't work here, although I don't even know who you'd contact that could actually help us out of this mess". Rei did watch as Tian pulled out his phone and began to click its buttons. Was he checking the time? If he had service? Rei had no idea. Still, he had another comment he had to respond to.

"Arcadia is only Level 60, so I thought I could do at least some damage to him. Or, at least, I wanted to see how strong his defenses were. Plus..." Rei looks down for a moment, clenching his fists, before looking back up. "I had a feeling he would have done something worse had I let him continue to touch me like that. I figured, since we are part of his game, he wouldn't kill me... so taking a heavy hit is better than whatever he could have done to me. Plus he did restore my Mana with that attack, so we know what one of his attacks can do."

Its hard to tell whether or not Rei is putting up a front here. After all, it is hard to actually plan all of that. Then again... Rei's INT and WIS were pretty good. Furthermore 'The Gamer's Mind' did help give one a calm, methodical thought process, especially in times of peril. Still, whether or not he is putting up a front to try and save face is a bit irrelevant to the situation at hand. Maybe.

"But I agree. Finding those chests to see if we can acquire better gear, and destroying more monsters to gain more EXP, are our priorities here. We can worry about the details later." Rei would continue to heal himself as he spoke, that healing Skill of his being pretty useful, even if it was a primarily out of combat ability.

Tian was down! The last hit must have hit him hard, but not hard enough? Alex watched as a second wind took place. And he is up again. It would have never crossed Alex's mind that they would learn a skill to prevent a death, and someone would require it only moments later.

The fight ended though, and after the spoils had been divided, Alex receiving a rather nice dagger. And it was enchanted too. "Haha, maybe I will finally learn that skill." Still seems like a waste of AP, I don't plan on being a dagger master. Equipping his new weapon, As Alex was going to unlock his new skill, a new face showed up pausing, he looked curiously at the new figure. A Jester? "Friend of yours?" He whispered jokingly to Xenon. The joke ended quickly though. As Rei and Arcadia had a bit of a scuffle...As much as I enjoyed watching the kid get a good smack, I think I should be worried about what may be ahead...

Tian suggested that they explore, and fight monster, Rei agreed rather quickly to that idea as well. "Hmmmmm... So do we stick together or split up then?" While waiting for an answer, he finished what he started prior to the new quest appearing.

Shouko's confidence in her shooting lasted for only a fleeting moment. Her next shot went wide. She bit back her disappointment and tried to focus on firing another shot. The gremlin was already attacking Tian-Gui. Fortunately, her intervention wasn't necessary. Tian-Gui himself managed to endure and return the attack, finishing off the wounded creature.

Shouko lowered her bow and breathed a sigh of relief. When he walked over, several arrows held in his hand, Shouko couldn't resist scolding the brash young man.

"That was really dangerous-"

Her sentence was interrupted by Tian-Gui, who didn't seem to hear her voice.

"Nice shooting, Shouko! Probably couldn't have downed it without your arrows, yea? Keep up t-"

All of a sudden a wall of muscle and armour crushed down on Shouko, throwing her onto the ground. It took her a moment to realise it wasn't an enemy attack, but Tian-Gui collapsing onto her. She let out a yelp in panic- his head hung limply on her chest, and arrows bristled from his back.

"Ack! H-halp! Rei!" Shouko called out at the youth who was standing nearby. Tian-Gui couldn't have died, right? With some help, the girl managed to extract herself from under his unconscious form, and Rei set about healing him. It appeared that he wasn't in any mortal danger. Shouko sighed a second time and kept her weaponry.

In just a minute, Tian-Gui opened his eyes again. Rei chewed him out before going over to investigate the chest. Shouko felt an urge to open the container but deferred to Rei's judgement. From within, he retrieved a few items that were then distributed to the party. To nobody's surprise, Shouko received the bow.

As if the ambush wasn't enough, another creature appeared. Except this 'jester' was far stronger than even Rei. Shouko could do nothing but listen to the rules of the 'Arcadia games' that it had dragged them into.

"What in the world have we gotten ourselves into..." Shouko muttered. When Tian-Gui returned Rei's words, she couldn't hold back a chuckle. Is Rei as hot-blooded as Tian-Gui under his cool mask?

"Of course we'll stick together. Right?" She replied Alex. "Those gremlins nearly managed to kill Tian-Gui, and Arcadia said they will only get stronger. Besides, we don't even know what this 'Round 1' entails. We shouldn't tire ourselves out before then."

Although it was dangerous, Shouko was spurred on by the promise of more chests. She took the pause in the conversation to go through her status window, checking her items and skills. It was time to use those precious APs.

[fieldbox="Xenon Zhu, red, solid"]There was a certain rush to letting out a flurry of attacks on the gremlin. Xenon tried to make every hit as precise as possible, though the precision of his four step cadence tended to slip in and out of time. The last hit was met with a heft of resistance that echoed back into his hand.

But his efforts proved to be fruitful, as with the rest of the team, the gremlins were safely dispatched. Well, excluding Tian Gui's quasi death. But still, Xenon thought, For someone who nearly died, he looks pretty happy.

Everything seemed to be settled - the sun was shining, Rei was scolding, and everything seemed to be in more or less the right place until the Jester showed up. Xenon felt a little unnerved at the constant people who seemed to poof into existence (With real magic, he reminded himself). But, he felt eased enough to smile lightly and think of witty retort to Alexander's comment... only to see Rei being blasted away. The remark died in his throat.

The Arcadia Games, huh? Looks like we're switching gears again...

"I agree with Shouko. Our chances are likely better if we stick together here," Xenon piped in, "Particularly since we could get ambushed again." Despite the familiar territory, walking alone seemed like signing a death sentence. "Where should we look first though? Port island's got Gekkoukan and Neo Tokyo, both of which are pretty sizable..." the red haired teen mused.

Then he paused. "By the way, are you okay?" Xenon directed his question at Rei. "That hit looked really," he grimaced lightly in remembrance, "Painful."[/fieldbox]

Rei just looks towards Xenon and gives just a mere nod. Indeed, for someone who lost all but 1 HP, he seemed fine, as if the powerful attack had never happened. "It felt like I got hit in the stomach with a sledge hammer, but thanks to The Gamer's Body, once you heal lost HP the pain just goes away". All in all, this made the Gamer power a very convenient one. It didn't change the fact that he had had taken 340 Damage, but still Rei had to acknowledge the small things to momentarily take his mind off how powerful that attack was and how it felt.

"A sledge hammer is an understatement..."

Rei just shakes his head, deciding to forget about that for now. They had other matters to attend to, namely getting stronger in time for this first round.

"For now, ill provide Healing and Support while you guys do all of the fighting. If something seems too strong, ill take care of it. Hopefully these enemies will give more experience and you can get to Level 10 in the next few hours or so, since we have 24 hours to do all of this. And I don't want to hear any complaints about how loot is distributed. Right now we just need to worry about surviving, and we can figure out who can get what later". Of course, they also had to take care to find food and water as well. Rei had some provisions of course, and they did just eat Alexander's pasta bentos. Even if they weren't good, food was still food.

Rei decided to take up the rear just in front of Shouko. They didn't really need to move in a straight line, so they were more in a group. Luckily Tian's armor was repaired. Not restored of course, but at least it is repaired. It seems like the damage it took is permanent and thus Tian would probably need to get new Armor soon. Hopefully these chests had some new Armor they could purchase with the strange gold coins they had found.

Then came the next few hours. Two hours to be exact. Naturally they explored, but they would also take breaks between combat to grind, talk, or test out abilities. Monsters came around decently often. Gremlin Archers ranging from Levels 10 - 12. The Level 11 and 12 ones mainly being different in they hit a little harder and had more defense, although the Level 12 Gremlins, the few there were, had a really hard hitting attack that they used. 18 Gremlin Archers had been fought in total. Nine of them were Level 10, Five were Level 11, and Four were Level 12. So naturally a very nice amount of EXP was given from all of these monsters.

Naturally the next two hours were filled with immense amounts of progress. Shouko acquired a new Skill that lets her somewhat utilize Mana with her arrows. Of course, the Skill consumes alot of MP and destroys the arrow upon usage, but its still a step in the right direction. Alexander acquired a new Meditation Skill that also benefits Mana practice. Xenon acquired the Feint Skill. While Tian didn't acquire anything new, just like everyone else he made huge leaps of progress in all of his Skills.

Thanks to both the EXP gained from fighting the Gremlin Archers and the EXP gained from grinding their Skills, the New Gamers were all Level 9 now and not too far away from Level 10, with Tian being the closest. While it seemed like fighting Monsters gave more EXP faster, grinding Skills was indeed another great way to gain EXP.

Rei, for the most part, played support. He occasionally interfered to intercept attacks or trip up foes, but he never really did much in terms of damaging them. According to Rei, him helping the fights anymore than that would only be detrimental since their levels were still too far apart to activate the Equal EXP Share function of the Gamer power's Party Mode. Of course, Tian's armor took a beating after the first fight with the four Level 10 Gremlin Archers and thus needed to be stored for now lest it be destroyed, since there wasn't much time to repair it.

Tian could keep wearing the armor if he wanted to, but wearing depleted Armor seemed to be a bit more detrimental than it was beneficial. His 'Charge' Skill definitely felt a small bit better with the Armor off, since he actually had AGI to work with when not wearing his Armor. Of course, he was exhausted, to the point of nearly passing out a few times, during the two hours due to his constant usage of the Second Wind Skill which he decided to grind since he had little to no usage for his MP except for his Intensify Energy Skill, which he would use whenever he used Second Wind.

Regardless, the group made great progress. Six more Gold Coins were found, as were 14 more of those Barbed Arrows for Shouko. A couple of bows and swords were held onto, and Rei just hung onto those, as he did with the Gold Coins and Yen that they found.

Upon the passage of that second hour, they would come upon an area near Neo Tokyo U. Shouko, if she knew of the popular trends of Neo Tokyo U, would recognize it as a field the school often used for events and thus was owned by the school. In the center of this medium sized field appeared to be a large treasure chest and a gray flag at the bottom of its pole beside it. There appeared to be some very bulky, tall, green skinned creature wielding two sharp, intimidating axes standing in front of the chest.

Empty Camp Guardian
Orc Axman Lv 16

"Camp Guardian?" Rei inquires aloud in a puzzled, curious tone as he steps forward in front of the group. Luckily the Gamers are still far enough away to where no one else has noticed them yet. Rather than be curious about the monster, Rei was more curious about this 'Camp Guardian'. He knew that they couldn't just approach carelessly though. Especially with one member of the party positively exhausted.

"You all stay here. I will take care of it. And don't try to play hero and come help me, just stay put". Adding in that last part sternly, Rei switches Equipment Sets back to his Gekkoukan Uniform and begins to draw in closer. At about 20 yards away, the creature glares in Rei's direction, seemingly noticing him, as a glowing ring appears around the 20 yard distance that Rei is standing away from the creature from.

From the top of the flag pole a bolt of arcane energy shoots out, heading right for Rei. It blasts him head on, Critical 57! appearing above his head. His HP goes down from 341 to 284, so it seems like he'll be fine, but he doesn't seem to happy about getting hit by that sudden and surprising attack. So he goes on a counterattack of his own, quickly chanting "Harmonize Essence!" to create the familiar glowing aura around himself.

Next he thrust his palms forward as he chants "Palm Wave!", a burst of glowing light blue, greenish energy shooting from his hands towards the Orc. It hits the beast dead on, making it growl out. A 33 appears over its head as it glares at Rei now, snarling. It now moves forward ten yards, brandishing its axes, as the pole glows for a moment before a blade shaped wave of magical energy, the familiar blue TV static appearing around its axe, launches towards Rei.

Rei, thankfully, deftly dodges out of the way, making the creature growl as Rei prepares for a counterattack. Rei quickly reaches into his Inventory, pulling out one of the Gremlin Shortbows, clenching his fist around it as the Bow simply vanishes in a flash of the blue, magical TV static like energy, this appearing around his hands as he chants "Palm Wave!" and thrusts forward both hands once again.

Now an arrow shaped burst of light-bluish, greenish energy blasts from Rei's hands, heading straight for the Orc at a higher speed and precision now. This time a 76 appears above the creature's head, and it looks anything but happy. Rei isn't finished yet though as he quickly and easily moves that ten yard distance, thrusting forward with his hand as he shouts that signature technique. "Palm Wave!" Perhaps the Orc was expecting a ranged blast, but not this time, as Rei aims to slam his hand right into its stomach.

Unfortunately Rei completely misses, the orc easily parrying his glowing hand aside. This leaves Rei wide open as the Orc swings its axes towards him. Fortunately its not much for exploiting opportune moments, and Rei dodges, although with the second swipe he has to move a bit out of optimal melee range. Which is good for Rei though as the Orc advances, baring its Axes down upon Rei. Rei cries out with the first slash, being dealt a nasty 47 Damage, Rei managing to dodge the main blunt of the attack fortunately. Luckily though Rei is able to dodge the second attack, although it still hits him for a not pleasant 23 Damage.

Either way, Rei is not looking too good as he is already down to half HP. And now the magical turret seems to fire once again at Rei. Fortunately its aim was off. Very off, as it slams fully into the Orc's back, a startled snarl emanating from the creature as 34 points of Damage are dealt to the Orc. Fortunately for the Orc it wasn't startled enough by the back attack to leave an opening for Rei though.

Still, Rei wasn't going to let that poor shot by the apparently magical flag pole go to waste. He goes for a diagonal chop, but as he does so he chants "Set 1!", his clothes and weaponry changing, his gauntlets with their blades extended as he had left them before he changed appearing as he manages to not really catch the Orc off guard, but still surprise it nonetheless. Its not good enough as Rei slices right deep into its torso with the demonic dark green blade, a loud howl escaping from the beast as it is immolated by the hot flames.

67 Critical!
20 Critical!

These appear above its head as it is slashed deep by the deadly, flame imbued Pata. Its not looking good for this creature though as Rei goes for another strike with his offhanded blade. Those same numbers appear once again as Rei wracks yet another critical strike, creating a deep, X shaped gash across the beast's entire torso now as it lets out another loud of bellow of pain as yet another 89, the first of those numbers having increased slightly points of Damage are dealt to it.

Rei isn't letting up though, even for a moment. Using his superior speed, he lets out a third slash. This third attack hits, but its not a very deep strike. The first number that appears above its head is a 5 as the blade barely manages to penetrate the beast's hide, followed by another green and orange 15 as it is immolated by dark green and orange flames once again. Now it is time for one more Attack, which will hopefully put the beast down.

Still, with another 35 and another 15 from the flames, the beast cries out a mighty bellow before it vanishes in a burst of smoke and fire. In its place is a nice stack of four potions, all of them light green, a stack of yen bills, three gold coins, and one of the beast's large, one-handed battle axes. The beast was quite tall after all, so this one-handed axe seemed to be a bit heavier than most one-handed axes.

Rei is panting a bit heavily, until a window appears before all of them.
JUSTICE! Has captured their first Camp!
HP/MP Fully Restored.
All Equipment Repaired.

+1 AP
+10 EXP

Unfortunately none of their fatigue is restored, but at least their equipment was all repaired and their wounds fully healed. Rei was more impressed, and confused, as to why this was giving them EXP and AP. Was this somehow... related to the Gamer system? Did this Arcadia know about their power? Or perhaps is this Gaia's bit of interference working into all of this? Rei had no idea, and hoped that perhaps playing in these Arcadia Games could perhaps give some answers.

For now the large chest would open, the flag rising to the top of the flag pole, the word "JUSTICE!" emblazoned into it with a red heart in the background of the flag. The glowing ring surrounding the twenty yard radius from before was now glowing red.

"I thought the design would go well for your team, so filled with Justice and Determination. After all, you guys didn't get to submit your flag design before all of this began." A voice rang out from behind them. Naturally it belonged to a certain floating, immensely powerful jester. This makes Rei quickly turn around, glaring up at the Jester still, but not as harshly as before. More of a wary glare than anything, Rei still on his guard.

"I came to congratulate you on finally capturing a Camp. You'll need to make sure to hold onto your Camp to survive in these games. It will become your base of operations where you can store any unneeded items and rest up. Plus..." Arcadia snaps his fingers, the Orc from before appearing. Only it had different text above its head. Plus it wasn't attacking them. It is just standing stationary in front of the flag pole.

JUSTICE! Camp Guardian
Orc Axman Lv 16

"Its indeed like your own base, complete with a turret and a guardian of... somewhat decent strength for the chickadees you all are right now". Rei clenches his fists at this statement. Even he himself, compared to this Arcadia, was a mere newborn chick.

"Anyway, you can either use those gold coins to purchase new gear and provisions, or you can use them to buy things to power up your base. Making your Guardian tougher, strengthening your Flag, or even adding other defenses or features to your base, such as boosted recovery or a field that makes you stronger faster. You can even use Gold Coins to expand the range of your Camp's Domain". He gestures to the ring surrounding the camp.

"And since you somehow seem to be getting real money from my lovely monsters, and real Items... I guess its because of that strange power of yours..." Arcadia scratches his chin for a few moments, before snapping his fingers as he grins. "If you get 25 Gold Coins then ill allow all of you to have the ability to contact the Abyss Auction if you'd like."

So the real money and Items weren't because of this Arcadia then? Just the Gold Coins? Rei was even more confused. Just what was this Arcadia?

Before Rei could ask anymore questions, the being known as Arcadia just gave a wave goodbye before vanishing into thin air. They had their... camp now, a window appearing before the Gamers now.
Entered JUSTICE! Camp Domain.

Recovery and Regeneration increased by 10%.
Gain 5 Damage Resistance.

So they received small buffs while in their camp... and for Gold Coins they could buy bigger buffs? That would make their camp more defensible. "What is this now? An RTS?" Rei mutters this as he sighs heavily and sits on the ground. Of course that meant leaving someone behind to defend the camp while others went off to fight monsters and gain more Gold Coins.

"For now... lets rest... and try to think of what we should do next." Rei looks towards the chest, then towards the loot. He had no idea what these green potions could do fully... but. "I can sort of tell that these seem like healing potions of some kind..." So Rei just puts them in the chest, to test the storage function. As Arcadia said, they could pull them out later if they needed them as Rei pulls them out, then puts them back in. He does the same with the Axe. "If someone wants to start using that Axe, just grab it from the chest."

Now they just had to rest for the moment, and think of what they needed to do next. Grind? Go out and farm more monsters for Gold? Try to capture more camps? There were alot of different options. For now they needed to recover their strength before coming up with a new one.

Shouko was relieved when Xenon with her as well, and Rei didn't demand that they split up as part of the training either. Sensibly, the group moved as one. As they were on the offence, the subsequent groups of Gremlins were much easier to deal with. They roamed around the city, taking down the creatures whenever they appeared.

It felt like some sort of warped school trip activity. Shouko caught herself smiling. Even though the possibility of death lurked close, the excitement of fighting monsters was too much to contain. This was supposed to happen on television, not real life.

All the fighting gave Shouko time to experiment. Alexander's trick with the knife gave her an idea. If he could use mana on a weapon, couldn't she do the same with her arrows? In the time between battles, she tested her theory. Unlike Alex, she didn't have the Mana Thread skill, so the effect she was aiming for was difficult.

She gathered mana into her palm, just like the exercise everyone did to learn their first ability. Instead of concentrating it into a weaponized form, she tried to coat her arrow in it. The first few times, the mana wouldn't take hold. Then it did, but the fluctuating force managed to snap the arrow in half. Despite the failures, she made progress.

Upon launching the loaded projectile for the first time, the system confirmed her success.

Shift Arrow (Rank 10) (Level 5, 0/3)
Cost: 35 MP
Through the bow you hold in your hands, you manage to wrap a small bit of Mana around your arrow. This is an ability used by novice Mage Archers. While this consumes a large amount of Mana, this allows you to adjust the accuracy of your arrow slightly with a surge of mental power. This raises your Arrow's Accuracy by 10% Focus and the Max Damage by a % of your SPI equal to 10 + Focus as it allows your arrow to hit a bit harder than normal. This ability, however; will break the Arrow you use as most normal arrows cannot handle the force of the Mana wrapping around it.

"Sweet!" she exclaimed when the message box appeared. She should have tried this much earlier. However, the skill had a large mana cost. It would have to be used sparingly.

Through the large number of battles they fought, the rest of the party made considerable progress in their respective skills. Tian-Gui, however, focused on practising Second Wind. It apparent caused extreme strain upon the user.

"Tian-Gui, what did I say about conserving your strength? You're pushing yourself too much!" She said when he burned out from the aftereffects of Second Wind. She tried to lend him a hand when his feet became unsteady, but the tall man was far too heavy for her to hold up. Shouko didn't know why she even tried.

"Just saying, if we get caught by another ambush and your Second Wind just wore off..."

Eventually, they came upon a peculiar scene, where two large Orcs guarded a camp. It was also within the boundaries of the Neo Tokyo U. Shouko hoped she wouldn't bump into someone she knew and have to explain the strange company she was keeping.

Rei took care of them alone, not wanting their help. This made them 'capture' the camp. It really was like some kind of game show now. Shouko imagined there were camera crews filming them, and chuckled.

"I'll take one of these, then," Shouko said, grabbing one of the green potions after Arcadia made another sudden visitation. "If they are healing items, everyone should be carrying them in their inventory just in case."

"So, what is this camp for? Do you think it's connected to the 'First Round' that's coming at midnight?"

Opening his skill window, Alex flicked through it, then let out a sigh. This isn't working the way I wanted it to. I seem to be missing a key point to getting where I desire to be. Glancing over towards Rei, Alex grinned, I bet someone will be able to help me unlock my potential. Slowly Alex made his way over to the senior Gamer. "So Rei, I have a bit of a question, do you have any tips or tricks to aid in learning how to better control one's mana?" He closed the windows, as they were starting to annoy him, how it mocked him with how much time he had put into it, with little fruit, "I've tried simply grinding the skill I've acquired, and I've even tried to go back to the core feeling of what awakened it, but to no success."

---

As they sat there, talking after their second battle with four Level 10 Gremlin Archers, Rei opens his heterochromatic eyes and looks up at Alexander as he asks his question.
"Your main goal would be to Advance the Focus Skill, or at least Rank it Up. This would give you a slightly easier time in unlocking better Mana based Skills". Of course, this is probably the answer Alexander didn't want to hear. Since that is something that took time, something that The Gamers had a limited amount of at the moment.
"But the best way is through meditation and calm focus. This is the best way to practice controlling and focusing the Mana inside of you. Naturally if you want to manipulate your Mana in more complex ways you'll need stronger Skills, so for now you'll want to practice focusing yourself and your Mana through meditation. Even if this doesn't give you what you want, it'll be excellent grinding for your Focus and Mana Skills".
---

Not the answer I wanted to hear. With the words Rei spoke, it sounded like a bit more effort was going to be required on Alex's part prior to him being able to grasp his mana the way he wanted to. "So in other words no shortcuts to greatness?" Alex chuckled, "Well, I guess I have more work to do."

---
"Plus Meditating could give you something along the lines of a Meditation Skill like I received, a Skill that boosts your Recovery while in use and was very useful for me once I was became capable of Combining Skills. It's one of the Skills I used to make my Harmonize Essence Skill. Ultimately it's very useful for grinding Focus and Mana utilizing abilities in general. An ability that I was planning on teaching all of you before that ambush happened".
Rei sighs heavily at this. Of course, with the EXP and Items they were getting from this it wasn't all that bad. The only problem was they had a time limit, and thus had to focus on grinding their current abilities so that they could grow stronger. As such, they had to basically use their time wisely, since they only had 24 hours, six of which they would have to spend sleeping at some point. So in reality they only had eighteen hours.
"Anyway, just work on Meditating and perhaps even focusing your Mana at the same time. Who knows, do well enough and something may come of it". Rei had learned Meditation from a book he bought at a bookstore. He figures with proper experimentation though Alexander could learn something better at the start, and even if it only gave him the same Skill Rei had gotten, it's still a useful Skill regardless.

"That's the difference between you and I. I had to learn all of this on my own. You at least get someone to teach you". Rei wanted to make that home in a bit. "So you and the others should be able to level a bit faster than I did thanks to this. It took me two and a half months to get this high. Hopefully you can get to where I am in half the time".
It had been only a week after all, and the New Gamers were already a third of the way there. Perhaps getting to Rei's level wouldn't be impossible in this amount of time. Especially with these Arcadia Games giving them Monsters that gave plenty of EXP, Arrows, and strange gold coins.
"Anymore questions?"
---

But you didn't have a time crunch placed on you and a life or deat- Wait...you did acquire the second wind skill on your own after all, and did try to tell us to all back off and not do this. "Hmm...I suppose that is a valid point." Reaching his hand back, Alex undid his hair, letting it flow. "So try to meditate and gain both a skill and rank up my skills that's how it will be done? I can do that, just need to be comfortable." He placed his hair tie in his pocket, I can do it, just watch me!

Mana Meditation

8 - 11 Focus = -3

Alexander would do as Rei instructed, trying to focus, meditate, and reach his Mana during it. During the peaceful, clear minded meditation he did indeed manage to tap into his Mana, starting to utilize it and drain it. He could feel his connection to his Mana, and could at least begin to grasp it a little better as he meditated. By the time all 95 of his MP ran out, netting him another Level in the Mana Skill, another set of windows would appear before Alexander. This taking about fifteen minutes or so.

A Skill has been created through a special action. By meditating while focusing your Mana, the ability to better do so; Mana Meditation, has been created.
Mana Meditation (Rank 10, Active) (Level 1, 0/3)
An ability utilized by novice mages and other users of Mana to practice with, this ability allows you to obtain a better connection to your Mana while calmly meditating. Only able to be used outside of combat, this Skill increases your Recovery by 1 + 25% while in use.
It also increases your Focus Score by 15% and thus allows you to better practice utilizing Mana based abilities, which are the only abilities you can utilize while using this Skill. If attacked while utilizing this Skill, you suffer a risk of Mana Backlash (Focus Roll DL 75 - 75% Damage Taken to resist).

Letting out a deep breath, Alex clicked the windows indicating the gain of his new skill closed. "I'm on my way." Inwardly Alex was cheering, FINALLY! A STEP IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION!!! "Okay, So now I just need to grind this a bit, and before I know it I should have this mana thing in the bag."

~~~
After the camp had been acquired due to Rei putting the beat down on the foes protecting it, It shortly came under the ownership of team JUSTICE. Also, Arcadia appeared again, gave a tidbit of info, then left. It seemed like the jester was getting a kick out of annoying their leader, something Alex had to try hard to not smirk about.
Addressing Shouko's question Alex spoke his opinion, "I would assume so, either tonight or at some point before this all ends." walking over to the pole to examine it more closely, he placed his hand on i and continued, "As such I think that grinding coins and increasing our base may be in our best interest."
"See, Shouko?" Tian-Gui gestured, after Rei decimated the orc dude with little to no difficulty, "that's what's going to happen if we get ambushed again! Of course, it'd suck if I flat out just died, but…eh, feel like it was worth it. Finally managed to completely max out my Endurance, after all!"
Despite talking about what could easily be a life-or-death situation, the smile never faded from Tian-Gui's face. The Arcadia Games, so far, had been a festival full of fun activities. The event organizer wasn't a complete asshole, the enemies were strong but not THAT strong, and, most importantly, time was slowed for all of them. There were even others with similar paranormal powers, meaning that they could network if they were allies of JUSTICE and kill them if they were missionaries of EVIL.
As the jester came around once more to explain everything, the raven-haired youth said, "Yup, thanks for all the tips and bonuses, dude! Really appreciate all this special treatment."
Arcadia disappeared before any reply was had though, and now, the Gamers were truly involved in this game. Opening up the chests and scanning the available items, Tian-Gui scratched his chin. The new armor really was good, but seeing how everything emphasized gaining gold from invading camps, it might be a better idea to improve their own. Rei was single-handedly strong enough to take down an unused camp, so having him stay within the camp would be as good as having two other camp guardians protecting the place. Taking one of the green potions for himself and smiling slightly at the fact that he still had the potions that Rei gave him during their first real fight, Tian-Gui listened to Alex's own opinions before nodding.
"Here's my plan," he said, taking out his cellphone once more, "Pseudospace is a copy of reality, so we can totally use map apps to navigate and map out this place. Rei is our trump and our best line of defense, so I feel like he should be babysitting the camp the whole time. No doubt, other contestants will be protecting their camp as well, while searching for Gold Coins."
"Now, I have no idea how long the game would go on for, so ideally, we focus on fortifying a single base. Each flag we capture should net us at least 6 Gold Coins, before that camp is disabled for one hour. My suggestion, thus, is that Shouko, Alex, Xenon, and myself go out and scout the place out, partaking in monster battles whenever. We will use our cellphones to note the places of any other camps, as well as supplementary details, before coming back to our own base to recover."
"While we recover, we figure out which camp to steal a flag from first, and then move in and take that flag while beating everyone who tries to protect said flag. We only have five people, and only one of us is exceptionally strong, so, honestly, trying to protect multiple bases right now, even with teleportation, will be a bit much…"
"So yeah,"
he concluded, "Any objections to the glorious scouting of justice?"
"Yes, I have one". Naturally, given Rei's nature, he spoke up. "Its not to going out in scouting, as I believe we should do that, but to rather who you're sending out to scout, although I do agree with you that capturing multiple camps is a bit pointless for us right now". Rei also has another objection about something else, but that's more of a personal one about how Tian was so friendly with Arcadia. That could be addressed later. For now, this came first.
"We have no idea how strong the other contestants are, what they could possibly be, nor how hostile these games are". Essentially, the Gamers lacked alot of information. Information Rei wants to obtain. "As such, I believe its best if I, the strongest; go out and scout. I can move much more quickly than all four of you can in a group and defeat any basic monsters I come across much more quickly. Furthermore, I can actually go ahead and capture a flag of an Empty Camp if I find it and just bring it back. Plus, I recover more quickly, so I wouldn't need to rest as long. A scout is just supposed to move around quickly and gather information, not fight whatever they find and attract attention".
Its true that Rei was stronger, but what Rei is also implying that the Gamers be left behind to defend the camp. Still, Rei stands up and opens the Purchase Chest once again. "Furthermore" he speaks as he scrolls through the windows that appear above it, "if I do come across other contestants, and they are hostile, I will have a much higher chance of being able to either escape or deal with them if they are around your levels. And if they are around my levels..." Rei pauses, and just shakes his head. "Well... lets hope that they are around your levels, or around the level of these Orcs at least".
Giving a nod, Rei takes out three gold coins from his Inventory and puts them into the chest after pressing a button in the window. Suddenly their domain ring would glow momentarily, before a window appears before them.
Restoration Field Upgrade I purchased.
Regeneration and Recovery both raised by 6, and then by another 5%, while in this Camp Domain.
He takes a moment to open his own Score Window, to confirm the change. Both scores have been indeed raised up as per the window's specifications. Good. So it did work. At least it did for the Camp Upgrades anyway. "Eleven Gold remaining... and I know just how we'll use it". He turns to face the others now.
"Having higher Regeneration and Recovery will make grinding go much more quickly, and with the amount of Gold we have we can purchase the second Restoration Field power up. Then ill purchase the first Defense Field Power Up, which will make us have a slightly even better defense bonus while we are here. With the last of the five gold, I will purchase one of the Monster Baits, which is where you all staying here comes in".
Rei just keeps going for now. "You all will stay here. Right now, you all need to keep on leveling up your Skills and gaining more EXP before you go out there and have to potentially face contestants since you guys are still too weak. So you'll use the Bait I purchase. That way, for the next hour, Monsters will come to the camp at varying rates. You'll fight them, gain coins, gain Experience, and not even have to leave the safety of the Camp and its Guardian".
Of course, being who Rei is and not really trusting them. He turns right back towards the chest. It seems like, unless anyone actively objected, Rei just seemed keen to go on with this plan to make these purchases.
[fieldbox="Xenon Zhu, red, solid"]Xenon took Rei's word for it when he said he was fine, as the other gamer gave no indication to being in pain. Though the attack still left a bit of a harrowing memory - up until then, there was nothing that Rei hadn't been able to beat. If that had been anyone else... he stopped that thought there.
On the flip side, grinding, and combat in general, was becoming increasingly satisfying. Xenon found himself likening it to some of his faster paced magical acts where timing, cadence, and placement were all of the essence. Above that, combat was a harvest field for an opportunistic mindset. And Xenon was certainly not afraid of being called a copy cat in that sense. After all, 99% of magic acts are unoriginal. It's just the magician that makes the act magically original.
The particular act that Xenon had set his sights on was Alexander's feint attack. Making things appear differently then they actually are seemed like a good fit for his arsenal. The difficulty was that he didn't have mana threads like Alexander did, but he did know how to get around it. When the time to go in came around, he waited for Alexander to use mana threads. Regardless of whether the attempt was successful or not, Xenon would move in and yell out, "Mana threads!", then actually cast out, "Mana bolt!" to mix things up.
Soon enough, the red haired teen was presented with a nice little window for his efforts:
You know how to properly perform a feint to throw an enemy off guard. As such, whenever you are performing a Feint your Charisma Score is increased by 5%. If your Feint is successful, then your opponent will be thrown Off Guard and unable to properly defend themselves.
You can then either attack as part of your Feint, which will decrease your accuracy (As that would be a Free Attack), or wait a moment to then execute a proper attack. Your Accuracy when attacking after a successful Feint is increased by 1 regardless, and you deal 5% more Damage.
For each additional Feint you perform though on the same target or a different target that has seen through this ability will decrease your chances of performing a successful Feint against said target by 5. Furthermore, if you do not perform the attack in 5 Seconds, the Feint wears off.
Though his methods were simply a flip flop of Alexander's previous actions, Xenon vowed to customize the act when he had more to work with - ideas of which were already filling the niches of his head.
To no one's surprise, after the grinding came more fighting, though this time from Rei. Thought the red haired teen didn't really have much of a problem with fighting, he realized that he had a bit of an aversion to watching others fight. Mostly because he'd recently seen more gamers being steam rolled than he preferred. That said, Rei finished the camp orcs without too much difficulty and another visit from Arcadia was in order.
Once the jester had left, Xenon followed suit with Shouko and took one of the potions into his inventory. While they were no longer in combat, he also decided to take some time to assess his stats and skills. Hm... seven ap, huh? I should probably spend some of it on things other than agility... but, Xenon paused. Being fast was such a simple, but pleasurable joy. So, he found a thin compromise. I'll put one in strength, get the movement talent... and might as well reset the mana talent while I'm at it. With a satisfied nod, he closed his windows and tuned into the conversations going on.
Both scouting options seemed to have two parts, the novice gamers and Rei. Either one had a hole either at the camp or out scouting, whichever place Rei wasn't present. And, as it was, Rei headed that his plan would be on top. Over the plan, Xenon found himself irked that the experienced gamer wasn't planning on getting a group consensus on how to act. Sure, they were inexperienced, but didn't consensus matter?
However, he didn't disagree to the plan, making the argument sound weak even to himself. So instead, he settled for another inquiry, "No qualms from me on the spending, but on the topic of the scouting plan - I think it goes without saying that we should communicate via gamer message, but how are we supposed to know or act if you get taken out of action?"
