What, a bad Valiant Black~. I'll keep in an eye if any-

I'm going in, Girls!
Farron, I'll be right behind you.

For a moment there, Yu-Ri almost thought that they were going to wait for the hospital patients and employees to evacuate the building before busting in. But then Farron, their glorious leader in red, decided that a frontal assault was the best idea in the world, and that all the time they spent being stealthy and unnoticed was pointless now. The raven-haired Valiant let out a long sigh, before opening up the rooftop entrance and running down. Her Speed-Augmented legs turned every single step into five as she sailed down the flight of stairs. Busting open the exit to the second floor, where the dot was, she attained sprinting speed.

The wind pushed against Yu-Ri fiercely, her Swallowtail Wings trailing behind her as she dashed at sixty miles per hour through the hallway. And yet, despite the insane speed at which she travelled, there was not a single scuff mark. She was sailing through the air, maintaining momentum with long strides that slid a little with every landing. Rounding a corner and ignoring the troubled floor staff that stepped out at the sound of the commotion on the floor, Yu-Ri grounded to a halt as a glimpse of red flashed in the edge of her vision.

Her index finger wiped against the linoleum floor as her body stretched low onto the ground, before she got to the fire alarm. Her eyes flickered, some hesitance showing at the ID Confirmation System, but Yu-Ri put her black-and-white hand on the lever anyways, pulling it.

An electronic ring resounded throughout the hospital, spawning from the SmartView devices implanted within the staff and the patients. That was one thing done, at least. Flicking her eyes in the direction of Farron and Ellen's landing spot, Yu-Ri shook out her exhausted legs, before jogging regularly to the location.

Triggered. What's the situation?

"...!?" Akni's crimson hues went instantly wide in shock and horror upon witnessing the bloody massacre, two poor victims lay still against the walls as if a mad artist decided to display his demented work. "..." Having helped her investigator father in his investigations by examining photographs and documents, Akni wasn't a stranger to these kind of scenes, but it didn't mean she was completely unaffected, the redhead was still disgusted and enraged at this travesty against innocent lives. "Girls, confirmed, two victims lay mutilated here, we are not having another one!" Akni messaged the whole group shortly before the echoes of a loud crash reached their ears. "Over there!" She exclaimed to her blonde upperclassman, activating her jets to dash down the hall.

The shrill ringing of fire alarms all over the Hospital and fire-sprinkler system coming to life brought a small relieved sigh from Akni, "Good job, Yu Ri." Now the occupants could evacuate on their own, minimizing the risk of further casualties. That'd also mean the authorities were alerted, with two fire alarms going off in the same block and all, it'd not be long before the CDF personnels arrived. It wasn't exactly a bad thing, they could help with the evacuation process while the Valiants took care of the perpetrator, now let's hope they wouldn't attack the heroic schoolgirls out of misunderstanding. If worse came to worst, Akni would have to shed her disguise. It was a matter for later, right now, they had a maddened individual to take care of.

Arriving with a blast of her inertial compensators to stop her momentum, the redhead halted just a few metres away from the stairwell, coming face-to-back with an obviously crazed 'doctor' spilling out a cart's content like his life depended on it. "We found him, Girls, male, doctor, white coat, near the 1st floor stairwell. Remi, keep track of him, Chie, find a spot so you can snipe him, and Yu Ri, come here ASAP." Even before she got a look on his maniacal glowing red eyes and blood-splattered white coat, only an idiot wouldn't conclude that he was the culprit, guilty of two homicides. Gulping, Akni gripped her claymore harder as she approached the doctor. At first, she wanted to charge at him to knock him out from behind, but after just the first step, he spun towards them, giving Akni the full view of his frenzied look.

"He's insane..." Akni muttered the obvious at Ellen, horribly unamused by his wailing monologue, definitely affected by the Madness alright. "Mita" Akni remotely spoke to the green tech-fairy, "Is there any way we can contain him without lethal force? We want to interrogate him." Whatever Mita's answer was, Akni readied herself for battle, her weapon ignited in flames as the doctor injected himself with three syringes filled with questionable liquid simultaneously. "Alright, that's it!" She had enough, "Engaging!" surrounded by the shrieking fire alarm, water sprinkles from the ceiling, and blaring spinning red lights, Valiant Red charged at the culprit, the flames on her sword and jets on her waist weren't disturbed at all by the water, they were nowhere near enough to douse them.

"Aaaaaaaaaaaargh!" In a shrill battlecry, sword flaming, she swung her weapon sideways at the doctor, aiming to push him back with the heat then knock his head down to render him unconscious. "...Wha-?!" However, much to her surprise, the jittery man dodged her attack, in a speed obviously inhumane even for the best athletes, let alone doctors. "Tch?!" Caught off-guard, the only reason Akni evaded his counterattack was her compensators on her legs sputtering, quickly repositioning herself a few feet away behind the doctor who was now charging at Ellen. "Ellen, try to not kill him if you ca-"

*BEEP BEEP*

The urgent notification in her SmartView cut her off, displaying itself as a call from her senior officer and handler, Ms. Tanya Reed. Oh shit... she really did not need her help right now. "Fuuuck..." Muttering to herself just before the holographic face of Operator Reed showed up at the upper right corner of her vision. Operator Tanya Reed was a slender white woman with tied back brown hair and a serious demeanor tinged with concern for her young agent

"Junior Agent Moretz, Operator Reed here: I have a report of an ongoing assault at Hope Hospital. Your locator beacon indicates you're nearby, are you able to respond? You are not to engage unless able to do so safely. Backup is already on the way- two agents are headed there now, but we need some more information on the situation."

Akni, you dumb shit! How could she forget about this? Of course, the locator beacon! She was used to having it for so long, also never having to mind it because... why would she? It wasn't like she'd participate in a group of vigilante schoolgirls in power-armor, right... right?!! "Ms. Reed, yes, yes I can, right away, over!" She privately answered the Operator then turned off the call. Ah shit, was her cover blown? Most likely, but fuck it, what's done is done.

Her jets roared to life once more as she joined back into the fray, assisting Ellen. "Girls! The CDFs are heading here, let's make this quick!" Unbeknownst to her, Akni may have just dug herself a deeper hole, but right now, she was torn between fighting, saving innocent lives, apprehending the culprit, and maintaining her cover.

The corpses stopped Ellen in her tracks for a few moments. She hadn't seen anything like it before, and the horrible gore on display gave her pause. She kept going quickly, just to get away from the sight of such dismembered bodies, and fought back the urge to vomit then and there. Was this really what it was like to be a hero? It was nothing like in any of the shows.

The fire alarm was a welcome distraction. It didn't do much to offset that she was still horrified by what she'd seen on entering the building, and whoever was behind it was fast, to keep so well ahead. Farron's flying also carried her well ahead, leaving Ellen to do the best she could to catch up on foot. Ellen briefly wondered, what if people start evacuating down towards their fight, not away from it. That would be utter chaos.

Ellen was a good way behind when they finally did come across the erratically-behaving doctor. He...well, he was already ranting incoherently, though it seemed he almost still had control of himself, before things just went from bad, to worse. The doctor was far too fast, there was no way there wasn't some form of supernatural influence going on, unless he had way more cyberware than just the eyes. Somehow, it was far too...human for whatever she was expecting. Some sort of monster, or person twisted into one, perhaps. But this, it was too close to normal, even as twisted as the situation obviously was. The man's speed easily carried him to, and past Farron, completely unharmed.

"No time to worry about that," Ellen thought as their enemy was quickly closing with her. Stepping backwards wasn't going to work for avoiding the onrushing attacker, and she felt those scalpels cut into her flesh, though not deeply enough to leave her a bleeding pile of meat. She couldn't be expected to just do perfectly in her first battle, but Ellen didn't waste any time before summoning her own sword and swinging at the man while he was nearby, aiming less to hit well than just to hit at all, and do some damage when she did. Take him alive? Protect others? Right now, all she was worried about was keeping herself alive. She let out a loud shout as she made her wild swing.

As Farron called out the man was in the first floor, Remi continued to run down the stairwell. Her scanning already detected that a few of the that were down there were seriously mutilated if not dead, and tried to brace herself for it. Thankfully as she opened the door out of the stairwell, she could only see one of them, because one of them was all she needed to feel a bit queasy. Her parents probably had to run into scenes somewhat similar to this, and it was this thought that pushed her to move forward to where the three were fighting.

It already looked a bit like a slug fest, the singular man fighting two of the Valiants in close ranged combat. She tried to steady her hands as she aimed towards the man, hesitant to take any shots while Ellen and Farron were close-by.

Ahh screw it, I can't just stand here and do nothing. She thought to herself.

She aimed for the doctor's center of mass, firing three shots at him from her semi-safe distance. She didn't care about whether or not he came out of this alive or dead, rather she was hoping and planning to kill him for those he already forsaken.

Chie watched the scene unfold in full clarity. It was beautiful and horrible at the same time. It was like the time that Chie found an ancient copy of some horror movie where a masked villain went around and slaughtered high school students. Chie got a bit excited by the sight. The sight of blood and organs. Perhaps, a bit too excited. She could feel her heart pumping blood harder than it had in a long time.

What's this feeling. It's so exciting. I want to. I want to.

Suddenly, the battle cries of her fellow Valiants brought her back to reality. Her allies were quickly approaching the suspect with their weapons out. Chie took a deep breath, and closed her eyes for a brief second. She thought it would take forever to calm herself, but in reality, it took no more than three seconds. She quickly activated her bow, and nocked an arrow on the bowstring. She watched the other Valiants close into melee range of the suspect. Chie focused all of her attention at the scene, and aimed with her eyes like she always had. If the doctor showed any sight of hositlity towards her allies, Chie will fire her arrow.

As it turned out, Mita had no connection to the team's tactical link, and was now hovering anxiously above the courtyard- trying to get close without being seen by the few people who hadn't read the evacuation route signs and were bursting out into the central area. But there was someone who did and heard Akni's question and spoke up into the girl's mind. "I am afraid that at this moment, we lack the capacity to subdue those so mentally degraded by Lesedra's influence. It is a project to be pursued for sure, but at this present moment..." Srade's disembodied voice trailed off though as the battle commenced properly.

The act of triggering the fire alarm had several- potentially unforeseen- consequences. For one, it made the doors fling open, several already cracked to allow a few curious orderlies and patients see what was going on in the hall. But now with the blaring alarm they burst into the hall and with wide, startled eyes tripped over the toppled cart, their own feet, or - if the scream down the hall was any indication - the doctor's previous victims. Yu-Ri got quite a few surprised, scared, or annoyed stares from people further from the fight but it seemed like the plan was working, as people scurried to leave... or begged for help in leaving, for those confined to recovery beds.

Secondly, the sudden screeching noise distracted the crazed doctor from his trajectory and halted his assault on Ellen. That helped end his slashing attacks, but it also put him on the defensive just in time for her mighty swing of her sword. But while her Cyberframe boosted her strength and made her attack feel able to chop through a car, she focused so much on the effort that the aim was lacking, and the lanky surgeon twisted with unsettling flexibility as he snapped back with a choked yell to evade the blow. And then Akni's swing after that, and Remi's three-round burst! They weren't being accurate enough, any of them, allowing the inhumanly nimble madman before them to juke and twist and scream before stopping.

He had been standing with head and arms hunched, both practically lolling as his feet carried him away from damage, but now his head rose. Lines of illuminating light spilled from the darkened sclera of his artificial eyes, glaring red streaks running across his skin toward his hair line and over his cheeks. His cybernetic eyeballs seemed poised to pop out of his face and the harsh light within them was painful to look at.

"Join the shrieking many, see... you stand alone!" he screeched in a voice near ready to fail.
His arms rose as if conducting some invisible choir or ushering in onlookers to join them.
The moment felt pristine, weighty, important- like the critical point in a dramatic story.
Their eyes grew heavy- tired, staring into the garish light cast in the increasingly dark hall.
The noises became stilted, traveling from so far away only to die out upon reached their ears.

No one stood in the hall in front of them. There wasn't even a them anymore.
Somehow they must have wondered off. They went their own way. The mission had ended. Everyone had left. Maybe they'd never been there. No one was there. No patients, no doctors. This was true isolation.
They could walk for miles. They'd never see another person. The pit was too deep. The walls too high. The air so thick. The ground so sweet. This had been a mistake. They were not heroes. They could not do this. The stakes too important. Even the adults were helpless. Surely they were more useless than that. How foolish to try. If only they could go back. Too late to quit. Damned to failure. Slipping through their fingers. A truly maddening endeavor.

With her reliance on overcharging her suit's abilities, Chie could feel her temperature rising. Not as a pain- at least not in the physical sense, but certainly a rising discomfort. Anxiety. Thrill. White noise and flooding heat and rippling sensation up her spine and over her head. Within the space between seconds her thoughts wandered, coming back just in time to maintain conscious continuity. The experience was... jarring, to say the least.

But her noise filtering Module kept it all at bay, pushed to the corners of her being so she could focus on the task at hand. Drawing back her bow string and doing the impossible stunt of aiming at a target she couldn't even directly see. Only by reflections and estimations. Despite the distance and the walls in the way, between the courtyard and the doctor's position in the hall, the launched projectile whistled through the air and seemed to phase through the wall on its way toward the target.
r5T5Rzp.gif

No, no it hit the doctor. He staggered back at last, scrambling away from the three frozen Valiants standing in the hall. Chie could see them when she squinted her eyes just right, though they seemed to want to fade away whenever she didn't look hard. And that was without the snowy blurriness drifting between her eyes from time to time.

And yet all five could still hear the mental communiques from the others, despite the crushing pressure trying to snuff out interest in those voices on the parts of Akni, Ellen, and Remi.[/hr]

The response was much stronger than Yu-Ri had expected, and she almost backed herself against a wall as doors were pushed open, screams further along the hall making it clear that, despite her extremely…provocative? disturbing? attire, the fire alarm had sounded for a reason. Pushing past the people, she listened into Farron's report of sorts as she continued forwards. Mutilation? The raven-haired girl clenched her teeth, hesitation emerging. Remi's sensor dots were showing the others leap into action, little circles engaging the circle that must have been Farron's 'male doctor with a white coat'. They were being too hasty, weren't they? Even if the CDF were to come, they'd have to deal with all the people running out of the hospital first.

They didn't have too much time, but there was no need to rush it.

Yeah, definitely no need to rush it. Relax. She had all the time in the world. She just had to foc-

Yu-Ri smiled, despite the sounds of combat down the hall. She really was hesitating, wasn't she? The slums was a rough place, but this…this was a goddamn monster that she was supposed to be fighting. It's already four against one, so really, it was fine, wasn't it? Remi had her rifle, Chie had her bow, Farron and Ellen both had brutish swords, while Yu-Ri had…what even WAS her weapon? She had already done enough work, evacuating the citizens and allowing the others to show their 'true power', whatever that was. Now, she can just sit back and let them have all the glory.

She closed her eyes, breathed in deeply, and let out a long sigh. Opening those yellow eyes of her's once more, the girl checked up on the situation through Remi's sensors once more.

Huh?

Three dots did not move, while the doctor-dot was erratically scrambling away.

What is…What happened?

Silence.

Hello? Remi, sensor lagging?

Trepidation built up and broke.

Power flooded into Yu-Ri's Speed Augmentations, electric energy making her entire body feel amazingly light. With a single step, she broke past the physical speed limits of humans. There were no longer people in the hallways, no longer any obstacles for her to worry about. She accelerated to max speed, following the AR blueprint in her vision. The Swallowtail Wings launched out at a sharp corner, and Yu-Ri lept up, retracting at the same time. It reeled her in, slingshotting her through the cooridor. As she landed, something wet and sticky contacted with her feet. In an instant, bile rose up in her throat, but in the next, she suppressed it, gritting her teeth.

She didn't step onto someone's guts. She stepped onto a banana peel.

The doctor was in sight now, staggered by an arrow in the back, heading away. But he was too slow!

Yu-Ri glanced by Farron at sixty miles per hour, her small frame turned into a bullet that bounced the immobile Valiant away. Already, adrenaline had converted that painful bump into a mere annoyance, and she made a bee-line towards the doctor.

Reaction Enhancement, on!

The girl leaped into the air as time slowed, past the doctor. Her back faced the blood-splattered monster, the six blades of the Swallowtail Wings burst out in a conal fashion. They bounced around the small space, weaving between the doctor's legs, arms, and head, before retracting, Entangling the man. The raven-haired girl landed, grabbed hold of the wires with her hands, and pulled, hoping to further pull him off balance.

"Chie, take his legs!"

She couldn't afford relaxing after all, not if more than half her team is just going to do nothing while their prize scampered off.

WARNING: CYBERFRAME TEMPERATURE AT 90 C.

An red colored text appeared in the corner of Chie's eyes. She blinked and tried to shake her eyes, as if it would help remove that strange occurrence. It was likely a warning message being sent to her brain by the Cyberframe. Chie felt her whole body getting uncomfortably warm, and she could feel sweat under her suit. It felt she had been in a hot boggy summer in the open weather. The only part of her body that felt cool was her chest. The embarrassing opening in her outfit now proven to be the only source of comfort. Right, heat. It was talked about in their brief Cyberframe tutorial. They were suppose to manage the heat output. Chie needs to be more careful with overcharging her modules. It had proved to be very useful, but it was sure risky.

Chie heard Yu-Ri talk in their mental voice comms, but no one else anwered. It was an creepy silence as none of the other games responded.

"Valiant Black? Everyone else?! Valiant Black, I think the doctor did something weird to everyone! I remembered feeling like I was alone for a few seconds. Maybe the others are affected!"

"Chie, take his legs!"

Chie had to get closer to her allies. There was no way she could just stay safe in the rooftop, while the rest of the girls were in danger. Chie lowered the output of her Bow, and dismissed the Noise Filtering module entirely. She focused her mind and activated the Potential Energy Capacitors on her thighs. She took one look at the courtyard of the building complex. It was a long way down, but the module should keep her safe. She jumped down the rooftop.

She landed on both of her legs. The module absorbed nearly all of the impact, and Chie felt barely anything more than a bit of the shock. She had no time, she had to help her allies. She took aim towards the doctor, and fired another arrow at his leg. She needed to disable the doctor.

"Valiant Red! Valiant Green! Valiant Yellow! Focus! You're not alone!"

Ellen dropped to her knees, the sudden change to the scenery leaving her momentarily shocked. Was this the truth? She was alone, there were no allies, no enemies, just some looming darkness waiting to tear her apart and devour her if she didn't run? Something was wrong. What the doctor had said didn't even make sense, and there wasn't a doctor anyway. What even was that?

Confusion, uncertainty, and fear washed over her. This wasn't right. She had to get out. She probably would have run, or stayed there and sunk further into despair, but a few things began nagging at the edge of her consciousness. Yu-Ri's and Chie's words still reached her. She did her best to focus on them, as the one lifeline that she wasn't alone in some lifeless, hellish world. She still didn't know what had happened or how to overpower it or get out. She usually dealt with her problems head-on, but how do you even approach something like this.

At least she knew why something was wrong. This was...not...reality. She wasn't just hallucinating and imagining the voices of her friends. Even if this was yet another lie, it was better than accepting this new truth, if that is what was happening.

"What the hell is even going on!?" Ellen shouted at the top of her lungs. Maybe it wouldn't do anything, but she had to focus, had to do something to fight this, reach out to her friends, if they were still out there. Even if tearing this veil away was worse, she'd find a way to do it.

Damn it, what kind of drugs did this madman injected himself with?! Akni could tolerate a single lucky dodge, but to consistently evade strikes and shots from three Cyberframed individuals were mind-boggling, to make matters worse, the doctor didn't even look like he was trying. Much like a possessed man in old horror movies, the insane doctor twisted and turned inhumanely, his awkward movements managed to distance himself from the three Valiants.

"Ha... huh..." Akni could feel her body heating up, but for her it wasn't an issue unlike the others, her suit's design was optimized to make best use of the Heat. However, no matter how strong her jets flamed, how hot her flaming sword burned, nothing mattered when her very own mind was assaulted. "...!?" Whether it mattered or not, Akni wasn't quick enough to avert her eyes from staring at those ominous glow, fiery red against blood crimson, and this time, the fire lost. "K-kuh...?!" An immense pain struck her head as her grip faltered, the fiery sword clattering against the wet floor. She closed her eyes shut while her hands reached up to grip the sides of her head.

When she opened them a moment later, "...h-huh...?" only silence from the empty hospital hall greeted her. "W-... wha..? Wha... where?" Struck in disbelief and confusion, Akni turned left and right, trying to find someone, anyone to explain what was going on. "Ha... nnh...?" Her head was filled with strange thoughts and memories, she remembered why she was here, no one wanted to do anything with her anymore after she failed missions after missions, causing untold number of deaths. Everyone had given up on her, her team, the CDF, even her own father.

"N-no... nooo!" This, this couldn't be true... this must be a lie! She had been a good girl ever since little, independent and headstrong, she contributed to society through helping her father's work, she didn't wallow in frustration at not having a mother, she persevered through it all. "R-rrrrgh... ngggggrrrh!!" Confusion lead to fear, and for the fiery girl, fear lead to anger. Like a cornered tigress, the redhead was dead set on breaking this false reality by any means necessary. She bent down to pick up her sword then began slashing at everything around her, the air, the walls, the various scattered objects, nothing was save from her flaming wrath.

"Aaaaaaaaaargh!!" Blitzing here and there, Valiant Red regressed to nothing more than a feral beast. The voices of her teammates were drowned in her enraged state, they were all distractions, lies, she must free herself from this illusion and return to the real world where she could be with her comrades once more. "Guh...!?" All of the sudden, she felt her body struck hard by an unknown force, it... it was working? Yes, it must be! "Ha... ahahahaha!!" Cackling in glee, the fiery Valiant continued her rampage, "Let me out... LET ME OUUUUUUUUUUUUT!!!!!"

"Valiant Red! Valiant Green! Valiant Yellow! Focus! You're not alone!"

"DAMN RIGHT, I'M NOT!!! AAAAAAAAAAAARGH!!!

"Tch." Remi let out, missing three shots on the crazed doctor. Well, her next shots weren't going to miss! He raised his arms as soon as she was about to line up her shot. Suddenly, everything went wrong. Her eye's felt weak...

The blond girl blinked, trying to realize what had just happened. The man had raised his hands... then what? Where was he anyways? What about her teamma-

Remi thought she heard someone call her name. Was it Yu-ri? No... it couldn't be.

That's when the "truth" hit her. They all died, killed by that damned doctor. Remi should have hit the man... but she missed. She could have done something but failed. No, nothing would have changed. They wanted to die instead of spending another second with her. It was fine though, she was used to it by now. She was alone now, and always will be. She was alone. She was alone. She was alone. She was alone. She was alone. She was alone. She was alone. She was alone.

The so called Valiant slumped against the hospital wall. She stared blankly at herself, not sure what to do with herself anymore. She took her gun and began to stare at it, slowly rotating it until she was staring straight down the barrel. She was truly unneeded or wanted now, maybe it would be just better to die-

"Valiant Red! Valiant Green! Valiant Yellow! Focus! You're not alone!"

Remi's eyes widened at hearing another voice breakthrough. She could feel something try to muffle it up, try to hide it, but Remi couldn't mistake the voice she heard, as much as she probably wanted to. Of course, it had to be her. The now-smiling girl thought. If Chie of all people was alive, the others have to be too. She knew there had to be some way to focus, she could feel the thing try to cloudy up her thinking again, try to make her believe she was alone and better off shooting herself. She grabbed onto her locket and focused, she wanted to go back and leave, she wanted to help her teammates out, most of all she wanted to get back at that doctor for doing this to her.

In the struggle to prevent the doctor from turning and chasing after the fleeing civilians, Yu-Ri had to worry about tripping not only on "banana peels" but also on the trio of syringes on the ground. But in her hyper-focused state and casting as wide a net as she did with her hovering blades and their connected wires, the mad doctor could not manage more than an ineffective sideways stagger. Yu-Ri still managed to wind him up with her Swallowtail Wings, prompting a sawing swing at the unseen chains that bound him. But though his scalpel was an ideal cutting instrument, it lacked the strength needed cut through the cyberframe's material.

This of course set up Chie for her second shot after that jump, though now that she flicked off the Noise Filtering... the noise rushed in to fill the void. Just as nature abhorred a vacuum, so too did the static seem to lash out against the artificial clarity. Waves of clashing white snow filled Chie's vision for a moment, but gradually settled to a background flicker, content to quietly crawl between the world and her eyes. It was distracting, but manageable, certainly enough for her to aim her shot. Without his frustrating juking and diving, the doctor was a prime target, and that second arrow buried itself into his right leg. He seemed to jolt when hit, and leapt sideways...

Right into the path of Akni's blind sword slash, her fiery blade swiping across his chest as she felt the catch of something meaty slowing her swing.

Around Chie, Ellen, and Akni, the palpable loneliness began to melt away- though for Akni the sight that greeted her was more... fuzzy than she might remember. But thankfully the abandoned, shadow-bathed walls and foreboding doors dissipated into the normal hospital- such as it was. Before them the doctor with his bugged-eyes, red irises spinning madly in place. Adorning his torso was a new wound that had not been there before, a deep cut with seared edges. The smell of burnt flesh and cotton singed their nostrils while his shirt slowly smoldered. Spurts of thick scarlet blood escaped his compromised rib cage, wetting his stomach and groin and soon his thighs as well, making his shirt red and his pants appear black. "Hllrrg-" he trembled and choked back more blood. "Still- now, then- always... there is no, end... Hllk! Kheh!" Fresh flecks of blood and spit splashed the tiles as he leaned forward and coughed. And gradually slumped into Yu-Ri's grasp. And eventually ceased twitching and tensing.

After that it might be reasonable to expect a break, but now Mita choose to reappear, looking immensely queasy after passing through the hall, her six crystalline wings flickering and causing her to bob unhappily this way and that. "Nnnh..." she forced herself to look at the doctor, an intense frown on her face but her eyes hidden by the data streaming across her visor. "Uhh... wow, that... was rough. But uh! Well done, you did it!" she tried to cheer them on, sounding more disturbed than enthusiastic. "Ehm... I'm sorry girls- er, Valiants... but there's one more thing you need to do." She darted nearer to the doctor's slumped head, looking quite fearful of it as if he might wake up at any moment.

"My scan indicates, his biotechnology... it's been compromised by Lesedra's magic. Whatever this is, whatever she's doing... it's affecting the digital component of his biofield. If we're going to beat this we... we need to know more. Srade can study his implants and maybe begin work on a cure! But, I need you to remove them from his body first, so they can be retrieved! A-and... after studying, perhaps such human-compatible technology can be remanufactured, to provide you with additional components or upgrades to your existing ones." She winced, knowing how bad that sounded, but the stakes were high and though it bothered her to say it, the situation was dire enough to force her to do so anyway.

Remi's sensor sweep of the building indicated a squad of ten- no, twelve people heading their way, two passing through the courtyard toward the back entrance of the building and another ten moving in two groups of five in the front of the hospital. The way they moved suggested tactical training, with the ones in front stopping and allowing the ones further back to catch up and pass before switching. It wouldn't be long before they were caught between the two.

The mad doctor struggled, but the blades he wielded were unable to slice through the wires of the Swallowtail Wings. Chie's arrow soon followed, the steel projectile burying itself into his fleshy leg, before Akni's blind strike, whistling mere inches above Yu-Ri's own head, tore through his rib cage, exposing organs and spraying blood everywhere.

It was at that time that her Swallowtail Wings began to retract. The mortally wounded doctor stumbled, swayed, and, drawn by the wires that entangled themselves around him, fell against Yu-Ri. Warm, rotten blood and the sensation of a cooling body chilled her to the bone. She could feel his heartbeat stop beating, his chest stop rising, his blood stop pumping. The smell began to fill her nostrils, an acrid, cheesy stench that made her want to throw up again. Something else, there had to be something else, something else to think about, something else to do, something else!

Yu-RI wheeled around and backhanded Farron, the entirety of her Cyberframe-enhanced strength in that violent strike. Blood rushed up her head, rage replaced fright, as she spat out, "What the fuck was that, Farron? Making a fucking spectacle, dragging everyone else into whatever the fuck happened, and nearly taking off my fucking head cause you were too fucking self-centered to look around?! First your bullshit on the roof, then a dynamic entrance that ruined any pretense of stealth, and now the fact that you think friendly fire doesn't exist?!"

The girl shook violently, her jaw creaking from how hard she grit her teeth, before hissing, "This isn't a game. Just because you're red and have a sword doesn't make you the protagonist."

Yu-RI closed her eyes, breathing deeply. Mita's words brought her something else to focus on, and, eyes still closed, she said, "Power Output: 2."

The thin wires retracted at full strength, slicing through flesh and bone, dismembering the monster's body. Like a children's toy, the puppet fell to pieces, filling the floor with rust. Yu-Ri took a deep, shuddering breath, before opening her eyes once more.

This was not human. This was not a monster. This was simply a product.

She picked up his head.

It was heavy, like an ugly bowling ball, but in the face of her Cyberframe-enhanced strength, it was nothing. Grabbing it by the hair, she cauterized the cut on Farron's burning sword until the flesh was well-done, before walking off, back to the stairs that lead to the rooftops.

The doctor's head swung with each step she took, each pendulum swing dimming the light of his red eyes further.

Her own, like the winter sun, stared coldly ahead, seeing everything and nothing.

The fog lifted as the doctor's life drained away onto his clothes and the floor beneath him. Ellen blinked a few times, shook her head, and slapped her cheeks to shake the last of it off, then reclaimed her sword and stood up to survey the scene. It was an unsettling spectacle, and it wasn't long before she looked away, to keep the most of it out of her field of view.

"Everyone alright," she asked. "It...looks like we won, at least." It didn't feel very heroic, to be in the middle of this much bloodshed and violence, but that was reality. She briefly looked down to pick at her own bloodstained outfit, and frowned. Yu-ri's tirade was almost left unchallenged, because the harsh words weren't undeserved, but...Ellen did have to speak up at the end. "If she was suffering from the same sort of thing I was, it was some sort of mental attack, that altered our perception somehow. It was like we were alone and everything was even more horrible, if you can believe it. I don't have a clue what she did, and I doubt it justifies it if it were dangerous. We've got a lot more to be wary of, if that's just a regular thing."

Yu-ri turning the doctor into so many pieces of meat at Mita's suggestion almost made her get sick again, and she staggered back in horror for a few moments. It was...perhaps...necessary, but still, utterly disgusting to see that done to a human body. Maybe what the man deserved, after what he'd done, but still. "I'm not going to hang around here either. We can discuss this later, once we don't have to explain it to the CDF, too." Ig she knew them, they wouldn't be too happy to see te city's would-be heroines.

She deactivated her cyberframe's systems and switched it over to active cooling, as she turned and took off after Yu-ri.

The spell was over, the doctor lay dead and the day was supposedly saved. What did Remi do though? She sat down against a wall as she fell a complete victim to the monster's attack. She was more than just a little displeased with herself. She accomplished little more than what a couple of two way radios could do. The girl made her gun disappear, not needing it anymore.

The girl looked silently at the little fight Farron and Yu-Ri had. Even if Farron was being affected by some sort of mental attack like Ellen and herself was... it was their fault they got hit by it to begin with. They should have subdued the man before it even reached this point. Also, there was one little thing still in the back of her head during the fighting.

Remi walked up to her blonde upperclassman, trying her best not to gag from the sight and stench of what Yu-Ri was did. "You look hurt, allow me to heal your wounds when... or if we find safety." It would be bad if they started returning to school or home with bad injuries that could hardly be explained, and Remi was at least useful in this regard.

I'm turning off the data link in a few seconds, take note of where the incoming CDF troopers are entering from.

She followed after the other two, turning off her scanning module as she unlinked the stream to her allies one by one, that is until it reached Farron.

I do wonder who was so important you had to talk to in the middle of fighting though...

Remi was sure to observe everything that went through her data link. Because of her dialing down the ability to be unable to pick up on frequencies however, she could only hear Farron's side of the conversation.

...Ms. Reed was it?

Remi looked back before she completely lost sight of Farron, giving her a glare of mistrust.

She slashed, she sliced, she was going to cut the walls down! Her flurry of unncoordinated strikes raged on, on, and on until... "Guh?!" She felt her Cyberframe-enhanced arms bracing against the impact of striking against something... gel-like with a crunchy hard center. As soon as it happened, the gloomy walls around her literally melted away, giving way to the sprinkled wet hospital hall and blaring alarms, also accompanied by this strange minor haze in her vision. "Haaaa... oh?" Did it work? She took a few seconds to look around and immediately, her attention was caught by the gruesome sight of a red-eyed man, entangled by wires, and his chest gutted open.

Wide-eyed, Akni took in the details of his torso wound, the third-degree burn wounds that completed it made one thing clear. "I... did that?" Looking down at her clutched weapon, there was no mistake on who struck the blow. In her blind rampage, she apparently made a lucky strike, the effect was as expected, not in anyway pretty, but it got the job done. Akni narrowed her eyes, gritting her teeth as the doctor rasped his way to death, damn it... She suggested to try interrogating him, yet she was the one who struck the killing blow. The irony was rich. Nevertheless, this madman wouldn't be claiming any more innocent lives, his insanity ended here. Holy shit... She did it, she killed another human being. Her father had to defend himself against violent suspects before and certainly took lives, it seemed she was walking in her parent's footsteps. However, was it something to be proud of?

"Ha..." The appearance of Mita brought small comforts to the otherwise grim atmosphere. "One more thing?" Akni knew what it was, cleaning up the mess, right? Ah, partially true, but she expected this, also a wise move on Srade's part. The more they could understand Lesadra's powers, the better they could prevent this from reoccuring in the future. Besides, becoming more powerful was certainly a nice step to take o greater threats, like the so-called 'Seething Daughters' for example. They would have to recover the body like a coroner then, no problem.

Approaching Yu-R from behind, Akni was about to ask tap her shoulder and tell her to release the doctor from her strange 'weapon', and that was when the raven-haired upperclassmen suddenly wheeled about...

*SLAP!*

So sudden, so swift, and most importantly, so completely unexpected, Yu-Ri's backhand smacked against the redhead's cheek, careening her neck to the side. "...!!!?" Taken off-guard, Akni couldn't do anything but just stand there, frozen in confusion as the taller girl unleashed her tirade on her. What...? Why? What was going on?! One moment they were fighting together against a psycho and the next, being slapped for... What?! Unconsciously taking deep breaths, Akni slowly faced Yu-Ri back with one hand against the offended cheek, looking up at the dancer Valiant. "Y-you...!" How dare she?! Couldn't her idiotic mind realize that the moment their target murdered innocent people, stealth and such bullshit can go to hell?! Perhaps it didn't dawn on her mind that their ultimate mission was to protect people. Even with two dead, all this winged little shit could think about was her and herself. Of course she was 'dragging' everyone into this, last time she remembered, they were all in this together!

Akni's patience was wearing incredibly thin, but broke completely when Yu-Ri insulted her by putting Akni on the same level as children with delusions of fantasy-grandeur. "Alright, that's it! You fucking bitch! Who the fuck said this whole fucking thing is a game?! All I ever do was trying to protect innocent people from unnecessary deaths!! Not my fault you can't fucking see it!!" She had never been so angry before, but she couldn't help it, here she was standing before her, a testament of how apathetic and selfish a human could be.

Akni would have continued her rant, but the soft, yet elegant, voice of Ellen chimed in, giving a new perspective on the matter. "..." Akni now realized part of the reason behind Yu-Ri's explosive monologue was her perceiving that Akni almost struck her, the redhead would have apologized if not for the sour mood. Right now, she wanted nothing to do with her, "Yeah, the doctor messed with our minds." At least she acknowledged the blonde cyborg.

Angry and annoyed, combined with her past experiences, also considerinf the fact she just split open a man's chest, Akni didn't squirm, nor tremble, at Yu-Ri's corpse mutilation act. If taking just the head was enough, then so be it. Silently, she stood still as Yu-Ri used her sword's 'service' to close up the dripping neck stump.

Sighing, Akni unsummoned her weapon in a swirl of flames then nodded at the two blondes, "Yeah, they are already here I expect, let's leave now." The communication link was disconnected one-by-one until only Akni and Remi were connected, the redhead assumed she's just cut it off so the sudden mental-message was... unexpected to say the least. "!?" Akni momentarily froze up, did... she find out? Aaaaah... shit. Stay calm, stay calm, play dumb. Akni deliberately ignored the last message before the link was finally cut. Pursing her lips, the redhead walked to a different section, away from the party so she could jump down to the courtyard. She... wanted to be alone right now.

As for the aforementioned Ms. Reed and the CDF. Well, they'll want a report from her, that's for sure. They wouldn't know exactly where she was- to the centimeter- but they'll know she was near the location of the violence so they'll be expecting some kind of explanation in the debriefing. Sigh, how long could she keep up this double agent charade?

They done it. They defeated, slayed, and beheaded the crazed doctor. Chie can see blood of the corpse oozing all over the floor. Her heart pounded with excitement, and thrill. She wanted to do more. She wanted to keep. What's the word... hunting. No, Chie. You needed to relax. She turned off all of her modules, and allowed her Cyberframe to start cooling off.

When Chie reached the rest of the Valiants, she noticed that something off with two of her fellow Valiants. Valiant Red's face looked slightly bruised, and Chie could feel malice and anger radiating out of her towards Valiant Black. Perhaps, Chie should diffuse the problem.

Suddenly, Valiant Red had a strange look on her face. She looked like an animal that was about to get hit by a car. Or a girl being caught by her parents with a boy in her bedroom. The face of shock, fear, and being exposed.

"What's wrong, Valiant Red? Did you think of something naughty~?"

Even the release of death did not relax the doctor's expression any. Trapped in a state of perpetual frightened sneering after his last few moments had been ended by an errant sword swing. If there was any peace to be had by the cessation of his rampage it wasn't to be enjoyed by him- nor by the ones who had brought about the successful resolution of this latest outbreak of violence it would seem. With Yu-Ri and Akni at forceful odds with another, the girls now faced the prospect of vacating the premises by two different routes.

Akni headed for the courtyard- thankfully by a different door than the one they had entered through, by which the two CDF agents who had been outside of ReVizion earlier were now infiltrating the hospital. The surveillance drone was no doubt above as well, or would be soon enough. And additional cars were on the way she could see in her SmartView, with additional officers set to secure the block and sweep for hostiles or evidence. The possibility of escaping by way of the courtyard without being seen grew less and less likely by the second. And all the while the damnable flickering refused to improve, even as her temperatures finally began to settle. She was still running hot and the disembodied discomfort grew like a pressure on her forehead, or behind her eyes? Or between them... The fuzzy static danced and played across the still air in the courtyard like snowflakes, despite the relative warmth of the night. A rushing choppy roar interrupted from above- a pair of helicopters were on the way, no doubt on the way to provide aerial surveillance. They would be upon the block before too long.

Visibly bothered by the conflict between Valiants Black and Red, Mita trembled in the air and darted swiftly back and forth between the two girls, wanting to comfort or calm. But their roiling anger was like a burst of wind that caught her wings and made her pull back. "No please, it's- it turned out okay! There's no need for this, everything's fine now...!" she urged, to no avail. When Yu-Ri and then Ellen followed by Remi all started on their way back up to the roof, Mita hesitated to give the fleeing redhead a sorrowful look. "Please don't give in to rage...?" she prompted, but then let her go, heading for the stairwell to keep up, and out of sight of the approaching authorities.

The only one who didn't seem to get the memo was Chie, who remained in the hall to pose a question to Akni's retreating form. Her suit too proceeded to bleed off excess heat but slowly. And that visual migraine was growing worse, the random pixelating blurring of crackling static distortion pulsing in her eye sockets. But before she'd have time to figure that one out, the sudden inevitable shout reached her ears: "You there! Freeze, don't move!" The approaching forms of two armored individuals, clad from head to toe in state of the art armor- white coated ceramic plates over black flexible fabric. In their hands were fully automatic rifles pointed her way. Fortunately they had just rounded the hallway and were ducking into firing position, meaning she still had time to dart up the stairs to join the others, or after Akni if she wanted to go that way. Either choice she opted for, the movement would result in the ear-ringing staccato bangs of hastily aimed rifles shooting many rounds her way to perforate the wall and door behind her.

Fortunately for Yu-Ri and the others, the stairways were mostly clear, with only a few civilian stragglers to give them incredulous looks as they ran up toward the roof. A man with a baby in one hand and a small girl half Remi's age in tow behind him squeezed past, though the daughter seemed more amazed than the father, giving them an astonished, wide-eyed stare as she was pulled along. An elderly man with a cane huffed and struggled down the stairs without a nurse or orderly there to assist him, but he didn't spare them a second glance. The path to the roof access was clear and Yu-Ri knew the way, but the closer they got to the top, the louder the familiar sound of incoming helicopters- likely the same Hornets from earlier that day. They'd have to act fast or risk getting spotted during their departure.

"You there! Freeze, don't move!"

Chie turned her head and found herself being threatened by two heavily armored individuals, presumably members of the CDF. Part of her wanted to conjure up her bow, and fire back immediately. How dare they threatened her, heir of the Mont family, Valiant Pink, a defender of justice. But, that won't be right. These two were simply foolish adults that were barely human. They were just tools, drones of the CDF, ordered by some overweight donut-stuffing executive. Chie would forgive them for simply being tools.

Chie looked over to the window that was smashed in pieces during the fight. The courtyard would mean that she would be able to leave the building by two swift jumps. One to the rooftop, and a second to the streets. Surely, these adults would have no way to pursue her. Chie pretended to raise her hands, but immediately then jumped through the open window. She made sure to activate two of her defensive modules as she did this. While, Chie did not enjoy the idea of being pierced by a bullet or two, it was unavoidable. Escaping would be the best option right now.

As she jumped through the window, she saw the glimpse of something red. It was long and flowing like crimson fire, beautiful in its sights. It was Valiant Red, and Chie swore that the normally fierce girl looked different. Her shoulders were slump, and she didn't carry the usual fiery attitude that Chie was used to. She looked... vulnerable.

As they moved up the stairs, she noticed the few people who were still inside of the hospital. The blonde girl gave the little one a small smile and wave. Going past the elderly man, she glanced back at him struggling down the stairs. If only she could help him without risking getting captured by the CDF. Sadly all she could do was hope that the officers down below would assist him. Remi heard the firing of bullets from down below, hoping it wasn't towards any of her teammates, as likely as it was.

If that monster wasn't stopped, then them and many more in this building could have died...

Remi perked up at the sound of the helicopters closing in. They were going to have to move now if they didn't want to get caught. While Remi was slightly worried about Chie and Farron, they chose their own directions. As she reached the roof, the girl offered Ellen her back. "Let's get out of here quickly so I can tend to your injuries, if you want." They could always just stage a quick meet up if she didn't want to take a ride on the Remi-mobile.

Regardless if Ellen accepted her offer or not, she would jump across to the fourth story of the parking garage, then jump across from the parking garage to as far away from this area as she could horizontally.
