A modern, superhero roleplay.

Justice City. On the nose, sure. But in its defense: it works. Allegedly.
INTRODUCTION
One of the younger cities of Florida, it has become large and prosperous, with a population of 11 million, thanks to the likes of Goldstar, Captain T, and the sheer amount of aspiring and established crimefighters that make their rounds here. This is Justice City, where the chief exports are paragons of heroism and exemplars of villainy that do battle on the daily. A bit violent, perhaps, but it makes for good headlines, and even better profits.

In this era of heroism, one has to make a buck. Fighting crime costs money - hospital bills, reimbursements for property damage, equipment, proper training, damages of reputation, lawsuits. Good thing heroism pays; provided you're a 'Corper', a derogatory term for a Corporate-Sponsored hero (some, as it were, prefer the old school days of non-profit vigilantism). Heroes who are adverse to pauper-lifestyles look for corporations to sponsor them - in return for a hefty paycheque, state-of-the-art equipment and PR representatives, heroes serve as the public image of corporations, symbols of the company's dedication to social responsibility.

While the adoring masses flash their new-age cellphone cameras to capture the pizzazz of sponsored heroes, villainy and the grittier aspects of the corporate underbelly still rear their ugly heads in Justice City, which makes heroism not just an entrepreneurial endeavor, but also crucial to the city's safety. Hero Schools exist to mold the talented and uniquely gifted heroes of the future.
O4MoMfT.png
Perhaps the world's finest Hero institution, and one of several major hero schools located in the United States of America. The school's primary selling point is to offer aspiring heroes the education and training needed to enter the world of professional heroism - from a societal standpoint, however, it also carries the responsibility of steering uniquely capable individuals away from unsavory exploitation, and ensuring that the more volatile of powered beings are able to safely function in society. To that end, this school - similar to many a hero school - finds itself torn between its two primary objectives; producing the newest crop of professional heroes, as well as instilling responsibility and ethics amongst the talented students.

Harkwell Academy for Future Heros has classes centered around social responsibilities, combat, ordinary school curriculum necessary for life in society, and media presentation. Some of the greatest PR masters and retired media moguls find a calling here, helping mold students into marketable heroes - providing gimmicks, hero names and outfit concepts.

Students deemed applicable are grouped together into teams for hands-on experience - sometimes being held on call as auxiliary hero teams for lesser missions. Trial by fire is not uncommon for the more advanced students, a necessity given the nature of the calling.

As a beacon of heroes, the school is a prime target for acts of villainy and terrorism. As such, in addition to the veritable army of powered students and teachers, the entire school is composed of a jet-black metal alloy, capable of resisting the heaviest of munitions. Security is top-of-the-line, with state-of-the-art technology supplementing trained protectors.
LOCATIONS
The Five Boroughs: Taking a page out of New York City's book, Justice City is organized into five boroughs (county-level entities) each with their own distinct culture and history, as well as sets of government powers, albeit with each borough government inferior to the city wide government.

  • Analogous to New York's Manhattan, New Rome is the densely populated mecca of Justice City, and its center for all things commercial, financial and administrative. Corporations, banks and embassies establish headquarters here, forming a veritable forestry of skyscrapers. Culture is as if privatized here, disseminated in the form of immaculate Chinatowns, Little Italy's and Mexicotown's, containing only the finest of each culture's wares and cuisines.

    Points of Interest
New Prosperity Bank - Said to contain the world's largest amount of holdings.
Sacred Trust Hospital - The world's largest hospital, home to some of each field's finest doctors and surgeons.
    Numerous embassies/corporation headquarters
Pagoda Mall - The world's largest mall.
The Justice Times - Largest newspaper publisher in Justice City!
  • It would be a little on the nose and questionable to name the district of Justice City with the highest amount of crime and poverty 'Hell's Side'. Nonetheless, it's been done - after all, we live in 'Justice City'. With that said, rejuvenation projects have been underway for the better part of a decade, and strides have been made towards the borough's underlying infrastructures.

    Points of Interest
St. Hubert's (largest prison of Justice City, specially designed to contain 'supers')
The Sanctuarium (asylum of questionable nature)

  • A suburban dream, and the most heavily populated of the Boroughs, being filled with residential areas and mixed use (residential + commercial) areas.

  • Identified by its healthy, prosperous flourish, without the overly abundant sheen of commercialization. Culturally, and socially diverse, Kingsville is known as a beacon of artistry, with museums, art shows and concert halls abound, and locally-owned stores upon the boardwalks.

    Points of Interest
Mulholland Park - Largest park in Justice City, popular rallying point.

  • A storied borough filled with character and culture. Racially diverse, with all sorts of cultures making their mark on their neighborhoods both demographically and architecturally. Second to New Rome in its cultural and commercial prominence.

HYPERION LEAGUE INCORPORATED
You know their names, you know their faces, well their costumed ones anyway, you know their power sets, and you know what products they endorse. They are the A-Team of all A-Teams. They save you from not only a tentacled, evil, space monsters but also from bad hair days. They're everywhere and anywhere. One would have to live in a cabin, deep in the woods, and hopefully away from muderous tree crabs, to not know they existed.

Of course, they're not the only team at Hyperion League Inc., they're just the only one that gets the name Hyperion League. There are numerous other super teams with their own gimicks, life-saving abilities, arch-nemises, and endorsements. But they're more likely to sell you toilet paper in the fifth pages of a newspaper, who reads those anymore, than to be on a bulletin board. Anyone with a power, set of skills, or just a rad suit and grappling hook, want to be a part of the Hyperion League, but there are only seven members, and one of them is immortal.

So, good luck.

THE A-TEAM OF A-TEAMS

GOLDSTAR | Leader of the Hyperion League | Immortality, Flight, Super Strength, Hand Lasers, and Expert Marksmanship

GOLDSTAR
Gold Star has been the leader of the Hyperion League since the beginning of it. There are rumors that he founded it. Still, he's a well-mannered hero and a great leader. The Hyperion League has never lost at his hands. Unlike a lot of the other Hyperion League members, he doesn't endorse any products. The only thing he does endorse is not killing, which is odd for a man with both hand lasers AND a gun.

GALACTICA | Alien Sorceress and Bombshell of the League | Flying, Magic, Boobs

GALACTICA
Galatika comes from Ninoria, a planet who has a population exactly like humans except with the added bonuses of flight and magic. When she's not busy being a hero, she's an underwear model and pretty much in every thirteen year-old's spank bank. She's had torrid affairs with most of the members of the Hyperion League except for Pixel. Beyond her appearance she's actually one of the stronger fighters in the League, having gone toe-to-toe with Destructor, and putting him behind bars.

FLASH FIRE | Group Speedster and Social Issue Icon | Super speed, Super Speed Induced Fires

FLASH FIRE
Flash Fire is an outspoken environmentalist and human rights activist. If something horrible is happening in the world, she'll be there. And she can be there almost immediately given her powers. That's made her rather absentee in the League, but she always there for the big fights. Her abilities make her a powerhouse. She endorses several charities, gluten free foods, vegan foods, and vegan clothing. She has a vlog that is insanely popular and meme-able.

KID T | Group Sidekick and Angsty Teen | Flying, Telekinesis

KID T
Kid-T was Captain-T's sidekick until he died--heart attack from way too many drugs. After that, she auditioned for the Hyperion League and made it in. When she started in the league, she was a teen, but at this moment in time she's in her mid-twenties. It's well known that she dislikes the "Kid" part of her name. She endorses clothing, makeup, phones, and internet social media. She's the sass of the group, capable of doling out insults and punches in fair amounts.

BLACK ICE | Group Badass | Ice Creation and Manipulation, Martial Arts

BLACK ICE
Black Ice was a loner rogue that managed to make it into the Hyperion League when he realized he needed help fighting his archenemisis King Krystal--who is way more formidable than his name makes him out to be. With the League's help, he was able to defeat the villian, and he joined up afterwards. He's still pretty offset from the group, but he does show up for the big fights and is known to have literally handed a few bad guy's their own asses..

PIXEL | Group Enigma and Cybernetics Expert | Internet Powers (?)

PIXEL
Pixel is [Never gonna give you up, never gonna let you down
Never gonna run around and desert you
Never gonna make you cry, never gonna say goodbye
Never gonna tell a lie and hurt you
Sorry. Nothing Personal. But It's Personal.]
.

SONIC SAINT | Group Genius and Lovable Dork | Creates Sonic Waves and Manipulates Sound

SONIC SAINT
Pixel is While Sonic Saint has the least powerful skill set, he does have something none of the other members have--genius level intellect. He's able to defeat most of his enemies solely through exploiting weakpoints and patterns. And as such, has become an invaluable member of the Hyperion League, sometimes helming missions instead of Gold Star. He endoreses scientific everything and alternative energy. Despite not being outspoken, he is a big cavalier for global warming and even has put himself on the task of fixing it.

CURRENT GMs: Tyrannosaurus Rekt, Shizuochan and BearEnthusiast
I No Godmodding, Power Playing, Generally Being a Dick
II No Meta Game. If you know something that your character does not know, don't make your character know it. I feel as if this is common sense, but it has happened.
III One post every week.
IV Be capable of creating: a) A student b) A teacher c) A badguy. All we need to begin with is a student and a teacher. Your student will be your 80% of the time character, while your badguy and teacher will be shared. When applying, only apply your student. Your teacher and villain are characters we will slowly work on.
V We don't want to limit creativity when it comes to powers but there are some things we simply won't be accepting.
  • Total Invulnerability: It's fine if your character is invulnerable to a few things. But invulnerable to ALL things. NOPE. NOPE.
  • Mind Control: Hard Pass. Look this is a Mary Sue power. No Mary Sue for you.
  • Total Telepathy: We don't mind a bit of telepathy, but no TOTAL telepathy. Please talk with people you are mind reading to find out what exactly they want to project.
  • No Gods: Yep, there are gods in all superhero universes, but we want to avoid that here due to their massive gamete of powers.
  • No Time Travelers: It's fine if you are a time traveler that has a limited skill set. But please don't be from the future with all the powers. No.
VI Pictures can be photography or realistic illustrations. No anime.
VII The age of characters should be 16-24. This school is not a basic high school. So your character should treat it as a high school/college.
VIII Alright. This RP is a shared experience. Us GMs will OK things, but we do encourage people to write arcs for the bad guys or their heroes. Please be capable of doing this. You don't have to map out every little thing, but the GMs want things to be inclusive for all. This helps being inclusive.

Hey friend, welcome to the site! In truth, this was based around a sizable group of rpers with pre-existing roleplay history with eachother - accommodating more is probably not something we'd be able to handle. If circumstances were to change, you'd certainly be the first to know!

  • Thank You
Reactions: Enigma
*Character Roster updated. This does not mean we aren't accepting characters, it's just to get an idea on how things are generally looking. Though, please do work on getting your characters in.

* A Discord Server was made. If you were invited, here's the link to it: Discord Server The Discord is where most of the OOC is going to be with periodic updates and pulse checking on the OOC. So please feel free to join!
If you were not invited, please do not join. I will ban you from the server

* Otherwise there is no ETA on when we plan to start. But aiming for the next week or so.

  • If you want your professor to be on this trip, introduce them as well.
  • You can post more than once, as long as it doesn't railroad anyone. Conversations are fine.
  • You can even collab, if you want.
  • Remember to write some juice italic thoughts for Effer.
  • Please have a post in by next week. We'll start the next scene then. This is just a "getting to know you" scene.
  • If you have any questions. Hit me up here or Discord. I'll be quicker to reach on Discord.
