- Medieval Fantasy. Or pirates. Pirates are always good. When it comes to reading, however, a good steampunk is always great. Above all, however, I would definitely have to say my favorite is Dark Fantasy.
@Greenie Ash is accepted. And now for my characters...
Name: Var Atr
Age: 138
Race: Esper
Gender: -
Diamond Color: Orange
Appearance: Var has no definite height due to being an esper who has no legs but he tends to keep the top of his head at 6 feet off the ground. Within his armor and the straps attached is a fiery orange glow.
Weapon(s): Attached to the gauntlet that is Var's right hand is a round shield crafted out of a bronze alloy. It has been damaged and worn from use against the monsters and training spars.
Constantly gripped in Var's left hand is a spear that has no particularly special qualities. With a 6 foot wooden handle and iron spear head it is strong enough to carry out most battle deeds.
In the event Var loses the spear there is a dagger made of Damascus Steel and etched with patters that look like text, but they are purely aesthetic.
Personality: Being an Esper, Var prefers to talk about philosophy and the meaning of life. He is a very deep individual and anyone who speaks to him normally. The voice that comes from Var is masculine making him accept that people refer to Var as a he. Aside from being masculine, Vars voice is very gentle and calming, he's got a voice that can soothe hectic moments. He is not loud and speaking with any authority is very difficult, he would be described by many as calm. Because he is able to understand many philosophic views he has been the center of deep debates many times.
When it comes to friendship, Var does not understand it. Instead it is one of Vars deepest wishes that someday all species and all people love peacefully among one another. All living things have souls and all of them must co-exist to be able to advance in society. When he spots an argument he does his best to but in and resolve the issue.
Magic: Var Atr has an ability rare among Espers that allows him to use his energy to disassemble his body. This is made possible due to the leather straps that hold all of the parts together. Using this ability Var can put his armor around another provided the person fits within his metal protection.
Skills: When Var was not in combat the sentient suit of armor could be found tailoring for the people, making suits for any use.
History: Var Atr is an Esper that was created by a group of traveling Espers. His crafters were nomads that drifted from settlement to settlement and forged Esper armors for the people of those settlements to act as additional arms. Var was made in Rothendust and was imbued with an Esper Spirit only days later. Soon after his spirit had awoken he found himself taking a liking to one particular human family, the Orminai family. They taught him the ways of combat so to better help fight against the monsters that roamed the surrounding landscape.
When the Orminai family had a child he made a vow to protect this child as best he could. When he wasn't out fighting the menaces outside the settlement he could be found simply babysitting. This child was first living being he grew an emotional attachment to. This child became his reason for protecting the village and he decided to devote his life to protecting this family, which meant protecting the settlement.
Var was alive to see his friends live, grow old, and die, but he was never sad about it. They lived full lives and he fully believed their legacy lived through their children and he'd continue protecting the family. Using his knowledge of combat he became a tutor for the Orminai family children, teaching them philosophy and the arts of combat. He did not demand a high amount of respect but he was given it by his peers because the Orminai family taught their children to respect the Esper for all of his help.
When the armed traveler showed up in Rothendust and offered protection for respect, Var wanted to hear him out. He suspected something from this man but had no basing for his suspicion. Despite this he treated the man with respect as though he were any other living among the people. On the day of the monster attack that allowed for the man to show his power, Var could be found protecting the family he devoted so much time to. By commanding such respect Var gladly gave it to him which made his rise to power all the more upsetting.
When a boy named Belyevor was born in the Orminai family he devoted his time just like all the children before him, but this time there was much less focus on the combat. Acting as a tutor, the child learned any things from Var that would impact the rest of his life. Var and Belyavor both share the same hatred for the lord tyrant, though Var feels more resent due to feeling betrayed. 8 months ago the shadowy figure approached Var and asked if he cared for a diamond. Without words, Var grabbed the orange diamond and before he could ask a question the figure vanished.

Name: Belyevor Orminai
Age: 43
Race: Human
Gender: Male
Diamond Color: Turquoise
Appearance: Belyevor is very muscular and stands at 5'11"
Weapon(s): With a scabbard mounted on Belyavors back he carries a two handed 3 foot broad sword with a double edged blade made of a sturdy steel crafted by Espers. Because the sword was crafted by Espers it contains magic power that allows it to stay sharp and also cut through magic energy. The magic within the sword can be worn out over time and regenerates when at rest.
Personality: Belyevor is not a very vocal person, he likes to think things through before he speaks about them. Time wasted babbling back and forth is very frustrating to Belyevor, it would be best to get to the point as soon as possible. That is not to say he dislikes idle conversation, but if there is a purpose at hand then he would much prefer the point be presented as soon as possible. When Belyevor is caught in conversation he sounds relaxed and calm, but when he needs to take charge and speak loudly he does so with great authority in his voice.
When insulting him Belyevor will ignore it as best he can, he would rather not make enemies, especially in Rothendust where people are under enough stress. If you compliment him he will seem to ignore it, he doesn't much care if people approve or disapprove of him, but he does appreciate the occasional compliment. When with friends he appreciates a good drink of ale but he hates getting drunk, he'd rather stay in the right mind.
Magic: The wind can be summoned and manipulated by Roth. He chose not to hone his skills with magic very well but after receiving his diamond he has been able to use magic very skillfully. He is able to create barriers of wind that can fend off many attacks or he can create gusts to make himself faster.
Skills: Roth was designated the city cartographer, he is not only very skilled at map making but he always remembers his maps. On the event he can't remember a map he made he holds copies of his maps in his home. Coming with cartography he is also a noteworthy artist.
History: Belyavor was born as the only child to a family of warriors, each being trained in combat by the Esper Var Atr. His family wanted to have more children but after the Lord Tyrant had taken control of the city the idea of bringing new children under his rule dissolved that desire. The only hope the parents had for their child was that he might grow in a peaceful environment, though with the events that had unfolded it was very doubtful. Thankfully for the Orminai family, Var Atr was there to help the child grow into a strong man.
Surely enough, Belyavor proved to be a smart child. His tutor Var was teaching him how to talk causing him to speak very proper while his parents worked under the lord of Rothendust. He had very little quality time with his parents which made him think of Var as his father at an early age. He still had a fair amount of respect for his father but it was a sad truth that Var spent more time with him.
When Belyavor was 9 he had begun to draw and he seemed to have a natural talent for it. Var saw this and nurtured his talent, encouraging him. His parents also saw this and did their best to support him between their time working and resting. His father worked as a day guard defending against any monsters that may attack during the day. Because of the protection offered by their tyrant there weren't many attacks anymore, but on the rare occasions they still attacked. In one of these attacks Belyavors father was killed, devastating his mother.
A few years later when Belyavor was 16, guards arrived at the Orminai household with a request. The guards spoke to his mother, still in a state of depression because of the loss of her husband. They wanted to use Belyavors drawing talents to map out the city by request of their lord. While his mother declined the offer, they guards were under orders to take Belyavor by force, but it was not necessary as he agreed to go of his own will. Maybe it was because he was still young but it sounded like a fun task. Var accompanied him and helped him map out the city, which turned out to be a long task. It was more complex that mapping the roads, he was to map out everything, even the main buildings and an underground tunnel system.
As more buildings were erected, Belyavor was called on to map them and update any existing maps. It became his official job in Rothendust to be the cartographer of the city. As each one was hand drawn, it was a long and arduous task walking through the city and sketching out the surroundings. Still, he took solace in the fact that his maps were used by the people rather than the tyrant.
Work slowed after a few years which made Belyavor take up a new job. He became a guard just like his father. As a day guard he was taught how to use a sword that Var had given him. The sword was made by an Esper that Var had associated with in the past that was designed to fend off magic. Monsters did not use magic, but the sword was not exactly created to fight against monsters. Still, it was a good and strong blade that he used to slay many monsters. Granted in the modern day there are fewer monster attacks and more the people assaulting them to keep them at bay.
3 months ago when Belyavor was walking on his own he found himself near a dark passage that lead underground where a dark figure was hiding. He could see the eyes and hands but nothing more. In those hands a diamond was presented to him and a voice that resembled that of a child asked him to take it. Belyavor questioned this, but the figure refused to respond. Sure enough, he reluctantly accepted this diamond and to his surprise it filled him with more power and a drive to do more with his life. What he was driven to do was unclear, but he knew that this jewel meant something, it had to have some significance.
