TAKAMAGAHARA」
THE PATH OF CHERRY BLOSSOMS
The land of Takamagahara has always been populated with numerous youkai, sealed away from the prying eyes of humans. The beautiful, picturesque land has been closed off by a ring of cherry blossom trees, all ever in bloom and unyielding to weather and damage, for a long time. Only youkai may pass through the trees without harm, humans would find themselves unable to take even one step into the perimeter.

It's another lovely spring. the sky is a bright blue, dotted with lazy clouds. The youkai are dancing, and the cherry blossoms are... not blooming? For some odd reason, despite it being the season where the barrier would be at its strongest, the trees that have stood against time are slowly starting to die, but for what reason?

Rumor has it, a youkai that had once disappeared from Takamagahara centuries ago going by the name Shuten-douji, is trying to find a way to reopen the seal that blocks the entrance to the abandoned Hell...

Welcome to Takamagahara.
Hidden in the countryside away from human cities, this sacred land has been home to youkai and gods since times unknown. Populated by youkai, each unique in their own abilities and personalities, they all live in harmony inside the cherry blossom trees that act as a protective perimeter to their world.

There are several notable landmarks.
Beyond the Boundary - through the seemingly endless forest of cherry blossom, whose scent seems a little too 'magical', is the misty gateway between the Human World and Takamagahara. Miles away from the country mountains is a busy and bustling 21st century Japan, where technology is rife and business is booming. Slowly, they seem to be caring less and less about preserving nature - and that is slowly causing a lot of problems.

Okanyama - a three peak mountain on the north side of Takamagahara. The eastern peak is home to tengu clans, who are currently fighting the oni clans on the western peak for more territory. The middle peak is home to a shrine worshipping the deity of the mountain, and is sometimes considered a safety point among the tengu and the oni.

Ryugukawa - a lake running from north to south on the east side of Takamagahara. It houses the Palace of the Dragon King, and is home and birthplace to many water-dwelling youkai.

Kinmokusei - a small town situated on the south side of Takamagahara. It is home to humans that have strange, magical abilities of their own, and live together with youkai in this land. It is unknown how humans first came to be here, they may have been here before the creation of Takamagahara, or humans who have been accepted by the cherry trees.

Abandoned Hell - location currently unknown. It was once a place where vengeful spirits were sent to until the death gods found it too crowded for it to be used well. Although they have since relocated, few tightly sealed evil youkai were left within its depths, hoping that nobody would be able to undo the magic that binds them in the darkness.

    • Dancing Lotus (舞蓮) - tea shop and theatre. Owned by Botan.
    • Doggugo's Store (ドッグゴの店) - The most loyal banker and money exchanger you'll ever meet.

Okanyama (王冠山) - northern mountain ranges.
    • Akatsunoshi (赤ツノ市) - the home of oni-kind on the western peak. Is on top of running lava, has plenty of forges in which they make their signature iron clubs.
    • Tenchishi (天地市) - the home of the tengu on the eastern peak. It is a place full of natural hot springs, which the tengu are very proud of.
    • Gajettomēkā (ガジェットメカ) - technology reclamation and home of the Eisei twins. Found under Tenchishi on a cliff face.
    • Okanyama Shrine (王冠山神社) - the home of the mountain deity of Okanyama. It sits on the very top of the middle peak and should not be disturbed.
    • Norikai's Hut - home of Norikai the hermit. Found on the central peak of Okanyama, below the shrine near the middle of the ascent.

The Whispering Woods (囁く森) - a big forest surrounding the base of Okanyama.
    • Kodama Tree (木霊の木) - a large tree that is the home of Arakashi's kodama friends. Protected and surrounded by magical charms. Although unique, surprisingly does not stand out in the forest.
    • Arakashi's Home - nicknamed 'A Leap Away', sits alone on the south-western border of the woods.
    • Fukuda Household - sits on the north-eastern outskirts of the woods

Ryugukawa (龍宮川) - eastern river that seperates the east from the rest of Takamagahara.
    • Palace of the Dragon King (龍宮城) - found at the bottom of Ryugukawa.
    • Kicho (貴著村) - a small underwater village near the top of the river, is popular for youkai who like to swim. There are a few businesses on top to trade with.
    • Botan's House - a mansion surrounded by a beautiful garden on the east side of the northern lip of the lake.

The Cursed Forest (呪われ森) - Although the Cursed Forest only accounts for the center area of the forest, it is collectively named so. A home for malicious and chaotic youkai.
    • Garden of Venus (ヴィーナスの庭) - a ring of maneating but beautiful looking plants that surround the more 'peaceful' outer perimeter of the forest. The only safe spot is by entering from the forest's east.
    • Fist of Fear, Touch of Death (恐怖の拳, 死の接触) - Aku's dojo, located at the heart of the Cursed Forest. Teaches martial arts and a special style of hand to hand combat known as the 'Death Touch'.

Hayasaka Hill (早坂) - A hill found on the east of Takamagahara across Ryugukawa. It is completely surrounded by gravestones and acts as a burial place for youkai and humans.
    • Hayasakabochi (早坂墓地) - The Hayasaka Cemetery.
    • Hayasakamura (早坂村) - A village set on top of Hayasaka Hill and is home to many undead youkai.

Rinkorashi (鈴湖らしい) - A huge field full of bright green valleys and meadows. It is home to a rural community and vibrant flora and fauna, as well as fresh water lakes and waterfalls.

Shinkuro (芯畔) - a large upscale town, home to wealthy people, birthplace of entertainment and trend setting town. The highlight of this town is a well known inn and bathhouse, and is also the tallest building in the town.

Kinmokusei (金木犀村) - southern village mostly populated by humans.

Hyogo (標業) - a village home to the Mochizuki clan of the Gyokutou. Found in between Sakuraboshi and Kinmokusei.

Abandoned Hell (旧地獄)- the old location of Hell, has been mostly emptied of its residents.

  • The following are the allegiance and factions of Tamakagahara. This is a work in progress, more will be added as the plot progresses.
  • Youkai are separated into three main clans or types. In general, they get along well and do not have problems with each other. These are:
    • The Daichi - all youkai that live on land. This includes animals that have grown old and developed mystical powers. This also includes the departed. All souls, ghosts and inanimate objects that have gained life belong in this clan, and are considered Daichi because of their ties to the earth.
    • The Oafu - the 'oarfish', a name used for all sea-dweller youkai or those who originate from the sea, considered to be messengers of the Dragon God. May or may not be true.
    • The Kyuten - the youkai of the wind. Any youkai that may fly can be classified as a Kyuten. Mostly populated by tengu.

From this point onward they are sorted into clans by species. Tengu are part of the tengu clan. Oni are part of the oni clan. And within those clans, they may be smaller clans that are similar to families.
  • An allegiance. Includes youkai who are for the unsealing for their own personal reasons. There is no de facto leader, although Shuten-doji was believed to be the instigator and formed the idea and the belief that the seal could be undone in the first place. There may be a race to see who is the one who free Orochi first, and infighting among youkai who are for the unsealing.
  • A faction and also allegiance. Populated with gyokutou and Tsukihito (moon people), it is sacred and 'holy' place where mortal emotions are discouraged, and where this purity must be maintained. Those who inhabit it were descendants of the Jade Rabbit and the moon goddess Chang'e. As the Jade Rabbit was her subject, it is the Tsukihito who are considered royalty on the moon, though there are few of them.

One of the largest gyokutou clans is the Mochizuki, who have since relocated to Takamagahara.

♢ Freezing - Always active in ghost form. The human form is only active in certain situations. If she feels threatened, the temperature in a room may go down or a gust of chilly wind may pass by a target if they're outside in a parking lot.

♢ Possession - Ghost form only. Ability to enter either a willing host or an unwilling host and completely control the body. Can be exorcised through a series of rituals or banished with purification.

♢ Telekinesis - Ability to lift and throw a maximum weight of about 115 lbs. An example of maximum power would be a single wooden dresser with six drawers being thrown and smashed against the wall.

♢ Telepathy - Minor ability. She can enter another person's mind and talk to them, but the person must be willing and they must establish eye contact. If she can't see the target, she can't enter their mind.

♢ Intangibility - Ghost form only. She can phase through walls, furniture, and other solid fixtures. She cannot go through liquid or buildings. Mystical energies can affect her negatively and intangibility cancellation makes this ability useless.

♢ Invisibility - If she feels a bit of apprehension in human form, she may slowly begin to fade away, starting from her fingertips. Thankfully, disappearances aren't common for her. In ghost form, she doesn't see the need to use this ability around others.

♢ Fear Inducement - This can kick into gear when she's feeling high strung and/or irritated. If she doesn't control her temper, fear in victim can skyrocket into panic attacks and cause them to be paralyzed for ten minutes.

There's not much that's changed appearance wise since Miyasundokoro became a ghost. Her skin is still smooth and her hair is still silky. If one were to take a closer look, they'd notice her skin is no longer warm, but cool to the touch and pale in comparison to her once fair skin. She burns more easily now and if not on business, she's usually noticeable by the red parasol she carries around. Miyasundokoro stands around 5'2" and has long legs and arms. Her body is slender and her hair still flows all the way down towards the end of her spine. She takes pride in her appearance and often dresses in vibrant, elaborately designed kimonos. A brown and gold kiseru is her signature item.

Miyasundokoro is a patient and collected woman to most people. People know she has her own agenda and she makes it quite clear that her agenda is Oodoburu, even if that's not the same on the inside. Miyasundokoro is mature and well-read, she expects the best out of her ladies, and even her clients. There is little that angers her, but when she's angry, it's always best to take a step back.

Her internal feelings about the unsealing aren't well-known to those around her, except for those closest to her, like Kyouko, for instance. She has a bit of a questionable morality when it comes to doing certain things, particularly if it has to do with humans. Miyasundokoro finds it very difficult to trust humans and youkai that enjoy being around humans, or even humans with abilities.

Regardless of her past, she still tries to make it through each day. She's a bit conservative and pessimistic, but she's working on being more open-minded and strong. Sometimes, the stress gets to her, most of the time it doesn't, and she's rather grateful for the hard work she's put forth and the experience she's gained over the years. Let's just hope it can be put to good use.

strengths
+ When it comes to decision making, Miyasundokoro is quick and direct. She finds no fault in any of her decisions because she understands the consequences of mistakes and sees it as a lesson to improve.

+ She has a calm, yet positive and engaging personality; this kind of attitude has won her clients over more than enough times. She knows her customers quite possibly more than they know themselves.

+ Determination is nothing without the will to change and move forward. Her fierce demeanor shines brighter than the sun and expects nothing more than the best results that come from getting the job done.

faults
- It takes a lot for Miyasundokoro to get angry at someone or something, so she aims to practice civility. Unfortunately, when she loses her cool, respect is the last thing she stands for.

- Over the years, she's developed a love for handing out orders to people. She doesn't think much about how her decisions will affect others, just that they need to be done or there will be consequences.

- Money is one of the few things she's motivated by. Miyasundokoro believes wealth is power and anyone foolish enough to try and stop her will regret their decision with their life.

Without a destination
Time just passed on by
The dream, even now still

-- Hanatan

There were many things to be proud of. Lady Rokujou no Miyasundokoro was one of them. Her parents cherished her and sought to get her married as soon as she became of age. Miyasundokoro was a beautiful, well-known, and talented young woman. Her hobbies included calligraphy, astronomy, and playing the koto, as well as the flute. She began performing for the emperor and empress at the young age of seven.

She was lucky enough to be chosen for the prince's bride. Miyasundokoro had a high standing and a quality reputation with most in the royal court. At the age of eighteen, she was married to the Crown Prince Kujou. Many women were jealous, but none more so than Komatsu, a lady in waiting who revered the young prince. Miyasundokoro gave birth to a small, healthy daughter at nineteen years old.

Unfortunately, Kujou soon passed away from measles and Miyasundokoro was stripped of her power and title. Their child, Chousakabe, was sent away to Ise to become a shrine princess, as her mother could no longer support her. Meanwhile, Miyasundokoro became a courtesan of the imperial court. She entertained with music, poetry, dance, and granted sexual favors to noblemen, particularly to a man named Genji.

Hikaru Genji.

He was a man she shouldn't have fallen in love with because he was a fool. Despite having affections, he was reluctant to return them because of the lifestyle she'd accumulated over the years. Miyasundokoro was heartbroken. Hikaru Genji began to visit other women and make conversation with them to find the devout and disciplined wife. Jealousy coursed through her body, consuming her mind and soul.

Her heart, once pink and fleshy, began to decay.

Her body, starting from the middle of her chest, began to turn transparent.

Miyasundokoro hid her apparent illness from others and one night, while she was sightseeing during the Hollyhock Festival, she found Genji with his rightful wife, Lady Aoi. After Genji chose Lady Aoi over her, she noticed Lady Aoi was pregnant. Miyasundokoro congratulated the couple with a fake smile but shed tears in the dark as jealousy took over her completely and transformed into a spirit.

Her spirit haunted Lady Aoi every night, feeding on her fear. At one point in time, Genji witnessed the same spirit and had a bag of herbal charms laid out beside their bed to ward off the evil spirit. Komatsu, a sorcerer, and exorcist learned of Miyasundokoro's jealousy and how it manifested. When Lady Aoi gave birth to a son, she was possessed by Miyasundokoro's spirit soon after. Komatsu offered to exorcise the demon.

Although they were able to get rid of the demon, the possession had taken its toll. Lady Aoi passed away and Miyasundokoro disappeared into obscurity. She joined her daughter at the Ise Shrine and became a shrine maiden. There was nothing Miyasundokoro could do to change circumstances. She'd been burdened by the fact that her jealousy had taken Lady Aoi, but it couldn't be helped.

Years passed and Miyasundokoro lived a miserable and troubled life. When Genji came to visit the shrine to worship the fox god, Miyasundokoro stayed behind the shadows, afraid. He left a small gift box as an offering to the fox god and prayed for good luck and health. When he left, Miyasundokoro rushed out to see what was in the box and to her surprise, it was an antique comb and a small letter written to her.

He wanted to see her again.

Miyasundokoro was thrilled but filled with grief. She read further, but her happiness was only temporary. He wished to take her daughter as a bride, the last thing she'd ever wanted. She begged him not to take her only family away from her, so he adopted her as his ward instead. Miyasundokoro felt she could never satisfy the void in her heart, so her spirit continued to terrorize Genji and those she felt had wronged her.

She began to pray to the fox god for a change.

The Fox God showed pity to her and decided to give her one last chance at life, provided she complete a task known to be impossible to all of the mankind: Retrieve the mirror in the lake. Miyasundokoro was desperate and quick to take on the challenge. She searched the lake for days; soaked from the rain, dried by the sun. After the fourteenth day, Miyasundokoro gave up and began to weep for everything she'd lost.

She could not go home.

The shrine maiden fled the temple and discovered a forest. The leaves rustled slightly and the breeze carried her dark brown hair gently across her lips. The forest was hauntingly beautiful. The songbirds sang their morning songs and the deer made strange noises on occasion. Miyasundokoro traveled by foot for a few days. On her third day, she came across an abandoned cabin out in the middle of nowhere.

Miyasundokoro entered the cabin and warmed herself up. She tended to the fire and made herself a simple meal of rice and fish, then brewed some green tea. "I've never felt so much at home," she murmured to herself as she wrapped her small body in a cotton quilt. Unknown to Miyasundokoro, a young female actually lived in the wooden cabin. She'd gone out hunting for deer and fish and returned late at night.

The former shrine maiden hadn't expected a visitor, much less anyone who claimed to live in the cabin. The woman's name was Yun. Miyasundokoro apologized profusely and explained her story. Yun was hesitant to allow her to stay, but in the end, decided it'd be okay for a while, but not too long. Miyasundokoro was grateful for her hospitality, though she left a week later to continue her travels.

Fortunately, Yun was kind enough to offer her safe passage towards the safest town. That small town in the distance was her beacon of hope, a chance for change, for something new. Kinmokusei. She started her new life as a hostess at an inn. They said she looked intelligent and pretty, so she got the job, but for the first time in her life, Miyasundokoro wasn't there to look beautiful for the men or act naïve.

She was there to find purpose.

A meaning.

Kinmokusei wasn't idyllic, but it was ok for the time that Miyasundokoro decided to live there. She slowly began to pave a path to great fortune, a life that was far more favorable than greeting guests and directing them to their tables. Her favorite part of her job had been the evening when a man came to the inn and played the hotchiku. It was quiet in the inn, so she decided to take a break and listen to him.

His name was Karasu, he was nothing short of a performer, but he seemed to truly enjoy creating sound. The inn began closing for the night and Karasu began to leave. Miyasundokoro had been so moved by his music, she inquired if he could come and play again sometime. It was possible, but only if he received some benefit. As a token of gratitude, she gave him a family heirloom of hers; a golden necklace.

He accepted and that was the last of her name.

Miyasundokoro had nothing left of her family, only stories and memories. Slowly, she began to make a name for herself in Kinmokusei and climb up the social ladder. She played the Koto for the village once, sew quilts for those out in the streets, but there was still one thing always nagging her in the back of her mind. An emptiness inside, something blank, something she couldn't quite comprehend.

It couldn't be helped though.

Miyasundokoro had given up a trinket and it was her responsibility to accept the consequences, so she tried to, and eventually, she forgot about the necklace she'd given away to Karasu, and had been more than thrilled to see him once more. Slowly, she began to get a better grip on her life and resorted to becoming a courtesan once more in an upscale town built on the east end called Shinkuro.

It was quite an experience, being away from what she was usually used to, but Miyasundokoro loved it. It helped her gain a clearer mind and perspective on the world around her. She danced, sang, played the koto for her peers, a warm feeling in her heart, even though she knew she was dead and that couldn't change. One night, however, laying with a man who was a former samurai, she slowly faded out.

He'd been a key witness to a tragic event at a shrine that he believed to honor the fox god. What had been even more devastating, was that it'd been the shrine she used to take care of and a few men had set it on fire. She curled up against the ronin's chest and ran her fingers down his neck. He reached up to grab her wrist, but his hand accidentally went through it; both of them wouldn't be sleeping that night.

The event didn't seem to matter that much to Miyasundokoro, primarily because she couldn't do anything about it, but as time went on, she seemed to become affected in ways she hadn't really believed would happen. Something about the tragedy seemed to get to her a lot more than the Ronin, but she didn't understand why, so she simply breathed and tried to move on with her life as a courtesan.

She missed it.

She missed this.

There were more things she could've done, but she thought it'd be nice to return to an old profession for a while. She made many friends in Karesuya. One particular woman, someone who'd been working as a courtesan at the establishment a few years longer than she had, was one of the first friends she'd ever made. Her name was Reimei and no words could express how wanted Miyasundokoro felt around her.

As Miyasundokoro got to know Reimei more, she slowly began to develop new and profound feelings for her. It was strange, but it felt right. Miyasundokoro was outspoken with her feelings, the others were shocked. Reimei, while she showed sympathy and knew the right words to say to Miyasundokoro, everything fell apart when her lover came up to join Reimei at the hip.

Miyasundokoro couldn't believe it. She'd embarrassed herself in front of everyone, only to find out that Reimei was in love with someone else. The last thing she wanted to do was run away, but it's all she felt like doing. There were two sides to Miyasundokoro; a predicament she felt she couldn't solve on her own. Itami, a mercenary and Imori yokai, came across her in an alley. She was by herself and crying.

Normally, Itami wasn't great dealing with emotions and preferred not to get caught in a bird trap, but something about the woman made him approach her. He was harsh, but it wasn't terrible. Itami helped pick Miyasundokoro back up again and offered to help her, in exchange for entertainment services. She agreed without hesitation and Itami gradually began to have an effect on who she was.

The belief that everyone was out to get her and she could only help herself became drilled in her everyday life. She stole money from Karesuya and framed the other girls, she got into fights, and her life became a never ending road of chaos. Eventually, she was kicked out of the entertainment hub, but her revenge on Reimei didn't stop there. For a price, she had Itami murder Reimei and her lover.

Itami and Miyasundokoro became partners in crime and lovers from that point on. They did favors for one another and benefitted greatly from the sheer enjoyment of getting what they wanted. Soon, Karesuya went out of business because profit had gradually declined over the years. In the meantime, Miyasundokoro found herself working at a small antique shop for a woman named Nishina in the same area.

Her main goal had always been to settle down, so she bought herself a nice, comfy cottage out near the valleys and meadows of Rinkorashii. The cherry blossoms and water lilies bloomed best in this area and the snow was abundant during the winter months. Over time, Miyasundokoro managed to accumulate enough yen to open a small entertainment business in Hyogo, a rabbit town nearby.

The initial plan to host a small entertainment hub turned out to be more favored than she'd expected. She moved to Sakuraboshi with plans to introduce courtesans and more variety of music and food to her establishment. She continued to innovate, which kept the customers coming back for more. Miyasundokoro gained a loyal employee named Kyouko and hasn't stopped business since.

♢ Ectoplasm Manipulation - She can manipulate energy beyond the physical to create constructs such as weapons, barriers, as well as release and use plasma in various shapes and intensities, such as a small shuriken or spike. The possibilities are endless, though restricted.

Appearance

Personality

History

Miyasundokoro gained a loyal employee named Kyouko and hasn't stopped business since.[/spoili]

No issues.

Name:
Domyoji Kurota

Age:
Unknown

Occupation:
Gravekeeper

Allegiance:
Self-serving

Appearance:
Kuroto is about 170cm tall and is slender in build.

Personality:
Kurota is a silent, stoic man who likes silence, since he himself is dead. Of course, that doesn't mean that he's easy to irritate.

Kurota may be selfish, but he is selfish to his desires and the desires of his allies, not just himself. He is well aware that he is powerful and already dead, so he chooses to do life-risking feats for any allies he has without blinking an eye, seeing that there is no life to risk. He'll do anything to lead a peaceful and healthy life.

And by anything, I mean anything. He can also resort to extreme, risky things for that, such as opening the gates of hell for a his own feast.

Clan:
Daichi

True Form:
gasha-dokuro-ii.jpg

"Nothing in the cosmos can sate my hunger!"

The Gashadokuro is a being of terrifying power. Traditionally, they are 20 to 30 metres tall. However, Kurota is able to reach a whopping 50 metres in height. It is born from the union of a hundred skeletons that cannot pass into the afterlife due to the grudges that anchor them to our plane. The Gashadokuro trudges on, seeking humans and other beings to feed on in order to fuel its body with the power of grudges. Its body is destined to burn out and fall to pieces, rattling into the afterlife.

The Gashadokuro is known for their monstrous strength and impossible appetite. A legend once told of a princess who conjured a Gashadokuro who smacked all in its path away.

Apart from forming naturally through collective vengeful skeletons, the Gashadokuro can be conjured by a high-levelled necromancer with knowledge on Oriental magic.

Abilities:
Undead Physiology - Kurota is invulnerable to diseases and such. Also, much like other undead-like yokai, when his body parts are seperated from his main body, they can still move and rejoin like nothing ever happened.
Combat Capability - Kurota has some skill in combat.
Partial True Form conjuration - Kurota can partially conjure his true form, such as partially transforming his arm into that of his true form.
Grudge Feeding - As a Gashadokuro, Kurota is fueled by grudges, and feeds off them. He can also feed off curses that originate from grudges, sometimes outright consuming the being or object that emits this curse to power himself.
True Form - In his true form, he is fully skeleton, his false flesh now flayed from his body. In this form, he cannot feel pain, and has a great size to topple all. Pierce damage does not phaze him one bit, but heavy amounts of bludgeoning damage can.

History:
Kurota was once conjured as part of a great war from a hundred skeletons, in an effort to fight off enemy troops. He literally ate and swallowed the enemy, and was most indestructable. However, after victory was claimed, he proceeded to devour more - even the ones who were on his side - until there was nothing left to consume.

After a while, Kurota gained better control and a better mind, allowing him to assume a humanoid form - more compact, one might say. Living for eons, he soon realises that his lifespan is ready to burn out, so he moves to Takamagahara, specifically the Honehone Village, home to all kinds of Undead Yokai. There, he, along with a youthful Jiangshi named FeiFei, work as Gravekeepers. The yokai that emerge from these graves will become citizens of a place dubbed The Bone Zone. Kurota's motivations for working as a Gravekeeper was to drain the grudges of the undead so that he can prolong his lifespan, but he can't prolong it enough and is only slightly delaying his death.

Soon, he hears word of hell preparing to break loose and open. He believes that if the gates of hell are open, he can drain the vengeance and grudges released from him to prolong his lifespan for another few centuries. As such, he wishes to learn more about it.

Other Information:
At the start of the RP, Kurota's closest and only friend is a youthful Jiangshi named FeiFei. She is child-like in nature and tends to the grave with him.
SIZ4I1Z.jpg
No issues. Where is Honehone though, on top of the hill? And what is the gravesite called?

Appearance: (please provide a faceclaim, I would personally prefer anime-style ones. You may also have a worded description, you may also include any alternate forms)

Personality:

Clan:
Oafu

True Form:
lXECsze.jpg

There are two ways a Futtachi (経立) can be born. The first way is by an animal exceeding its natural lifespan. The second is by being born from another Futtachi. Mizuki was born via the second method, which explains why she is a Futtachi despite her youth. She is currently a Waira tadpole (わいらのおたまじゃくし) going through puberty, and she will ultimately become the land-dwelling Waira.

20100331101153307.jpg

The Waira (わいら) is a type of Futtachi transformed from a toad. Currently, Mizuki is in her tadpole stage. However, she will eventually metamorphosise into a Waira. Waira are yokai that guard temples and shrines, feeding off birds, rodents, and their favourite food of all - evildoers. Every now and then, females will lay unfertilized eggs into streams and rivers while males will fertilize them, much like frogs. The tadpoles that ultimately hatch from these eggs never meet their parents.

otoroshi_by_gegebo.jpg

Even after emerging into adults, Waira will continue to grow. When they have been Waira for a hundred years, their one-clawed limbs becoming three, and the very evil they consume turning into pitch black hair that grows, Waira will further mutate into Otoroshi (おとろし). Their diet and behaviour changes little from their time as Waira, but as the change occurs, they gradually stop laying eggs, and ultimately halt at the hundredth year.

Abilities:
Underwater physiology - all standard abilities of a water dweller such as breathing in water and swimming.

History: (as detailed as you want. Honestly, it can be anything. They were a princess, they were an exile. They fell from the sky, they came out of the ground. Possibilities are endless!)

Other Information:
As she is currently going through puberty, her abilities and physiology might change over time.

YŌKAI
An odd and rare combinations of two Yōkai in one. This one in particular is both a Maneki-neko and a Nekomata.

The maneki neko is a popular variation of the bakeneko which brings good luck and fortune. It is most commonly seen in the form of decorative statues in homes and stores. It is depicted with one or both paws in the air in a beckoning motion.

Cats have long been connected with the supernatural in Japan. While some superstitions link cats with bad luck, curses, and strange fires, there is also a long tradition of cats being revered and seen as good creatures. Particularly in agricultural and sericulture, where cats would eat mice and other pests who attack crops and silkworms, cats were seen as lucky creatures, and images of cats were used as charms.

Statues of maneki neko became popular items in the urban areas of Japan towards the end of the Edo period. Cats with their right hand raised are said to bring economic fortune, while cats with their left hand raised are said to attract customers. The cat's colors of the can be significant as well. Long ago, black cats were said to be lucky cats due to their ability to see in the dark, and so black maneki neko were used as talismans against evil spirits. Red was believed to repel smallpox and measles, so red maneki neko were used as talismans against sickness.

The origins of these statues lie in folkloric tales about strange cats who bring riches to their masters, or who save their masters from disaster. There are a number of famous stories based on variations of these themes.

One particularly monstrous breed of bakeneko is a two-tailed variety known as nekomata. Nekomata are found in cities and villages, transformed from ordinary cats. They are born in the same way as other bakeneko, though only the oldest, largest cats with the longest tails (and thus more power and intelligence) become this powerful variety. When these cats transform from ordinary animals into yokai, their tale splits down the center into two identical tails.

Kagura's Yōkai form is a white and brown cat, that resembles her features in her human form. However, Mana has two Yōkai forms. One is a normal sized cat in the color red, just like Kagura's, and the second one is bigger in size, and mostly black and white, with a small variation of other colors.

HAIRSTYLE
Kagura's hairstyle can be from a simple bun, to a ponytail, or to her hair simply being let down her back. It is silky, and a mix of light brown and blonde. Mana's hairstyle is quite different. Unlike Kagura, her hair is red and usually in twin tails.

EYE COLOR
Cherry Blossom (Kagura - Red (Mana).

ABILITIES
Blue Fire Manipulation - Kagura or actually, Mana, has the ability to conjure blue fire at will, and manipulate it. Shooting it towards her enemy or opponent, she can control the direction it ventures towards. This type of fire is rather cursed, and is difficult to exstinguish. Using something similar to light magic can easily evaporate it. She can also use it to coat a weapon, or blast orbs of blue fire towards her enemy. If she wills it, it can even work like a whip, and can be used to capture someone. However, if it does, it will not harm the victim.

Necromancer - Again, it can only be used by Mana, and maybe even Kagura, unbeknownst to her. Anyhow, she has the ability to raise the dead, or rather, raise skeletons from beneath the earth to follow her command. She can't use it excessively. Though when she does, a dusin can be raised. It doesn't neccessarily have to be skeletons. it could be other dead Yōkai or animals as well.

Nekoma Staff - A very unique staff in the form of a T. Small bells of three hanging down from both its sides. Can only be manifested by Mana in her human form. When used, it has the ability to paralyze or hypnotize Mana's enemies, or opponents. Once the bells ring around a certain area, where her victims are, they will lose their sense of perception and balance. Their surroundings will be fuzzy, or rather blurry. She has to ring the bells three times for it to have a temporary effect. She also has to be in the same area as her victims, and not move from her location.

Bringer of Luck & Fortune - Obviously, Kagura has the ability to bring good fortune to people she holds close to her heart, or to a place she very much enjoys. However, she has to frequently visit the person or the place in order for the luck and the good fortune to increase over time. Mana can't do it.

RELATIONSHIPS
WIP

HISTORY
A long time ago, Kagura was in the human realm. She was born to a Maneki-neko and a Nekomata. She was no ordinary Yōkai. She was different and unique. Obviously there are others Yōkai like her who are the same, but over time, she changed. She did have parents, and a family, but she did not remember them. If anything, one could consider her an orphan.

In her earlier days, she usually stuck around in forests. Thats where she met other Yōkai like herself. Naked to the human eyes, they eventually taught her many things. About Takamagahara, and about what she was. Obviously, they had no idea that she was also a Nekomata. Funny, kind and cheerful, she began doing what a Maneki-neko would. Changing into her cat form, she traveled the human realm, or mostly in Japan.

With her extremely well-natured and kind personality, she found humans she liked, and bestowed good fortune and luck upon them. It wasn't that easy of course. She stayed with them for quite some time until they could reap the benefits of a Maneki-neko's presence. Her love for the humans was undying. Time obviously passed and her personality did never change.

Though, the older she got, the more forgetful she was, or so she assumed. It was rather something odd that had occured to her. She started having blackouts, and when she came to, she could never recall those days. In her sleep, she always dreamt of another woman, who looked exactly like her, but this woman, she was sinister, cruel, and quite selfish, or at least, in her dreams.

With time, they started talking to one another in Kagura's dream. It was quite odd how the woman with the red hair, who eventually referred to herself as Mana, could always guess what Kagura was thinking, or what she was about to say or do. There were also times when she could see Mana in the mirrors, looking straight back at her, or in reflections.

At some point, Kagura blacked out, and woke up in Takamagahara. No longer in the human realm, she was among her kind. All around her, things were quite different. Kagura did want to find a way back to the human realm, but it was not that simple. Years passed by and she still had many questions lingering in her mind.

Blackouts did occur for her, but at that point, she knew Mana was another side of her. A different personality, or rather, a different Yōkai within her. In the end, she was Mana, and Mana was her, or so the latter revealed at some point. Even if Mana was cruel or rather quite blunt towards Kagura, the latter could still keep her at bay. To some degree, Mana did listen to Kagura. If anything, she could see that Mana did care for her, if not anyone else.

Mata Staff - A very unique staff in the form of a T.

However, she has to frequently visit the person or the place in order for the luck and the good fortune to increas over time. Mana can't do it.

Her necromancer side is a bit ehh... considering we have undead youkai around. Does she affect them as well? Otherwise, no problems there, just make sure to make sure everyone know if they're interacting with Kagura or Mana.

I dont think it effects them unless the player behind an undead yokai wants that to happen. To me it really isn't them, its more about those who are dead as in dead, and have been for a while.

And whenever I do post as Mana or Kagura, you will clearly see the difference in personality and the color for the text I'll be using.

"QUOTE QUOTE QUOTE"

Name: Shingetsu
Age: 372
Species: White Kitsune
Occupation: Managing Koizumi's Kimono Store
Allegiance: None, at the moment

Nicknames:
- Shin (most commonly used)
- Idiot Fox
- Furrball
- King of Floof

PERSONALITY

Shin may be a fox spirit, but he certainly doesn't fit any of the stereotypes. As his nickname suggests, he isn't the sharpest tool in the shed. Although he may try to act like it sometimes, he isn't particularly sly. Seductive is also not a word I would use to describe him. The only thing he perhaps does well is dance.

Shin has a kind and generous personality. Although he may not always do so without complaint, he would never leave anyone in need of help. Unfortunately this side of him often ends up getting overlooked, as he has a tendency to come off as conceited and dramatic. Additionally he will try to slither out of any situation he may find uncomfortable. By all means, he should be considered a coward.

His desire to constantly be the center of everyone's attention, coupled with how he'll sulk or even throw a tantrum when something doesn't go his way, Shin's attitude can be summed up with nothing better than "childlike". It is worth remembering however, that despite his self-absorbed, attention-seeking nature -- at the very least, he's got his heart in the right place.

ABILITIES

Fox Fire: Perhaps the most iconic power of his kind. Like the vast majority of other kitsune, his able to produce and control flames at his leisure. Contrary to ordinary fire that simply burns things, fox-fire can be used for additional purposes. In Shin's case it capable to drain the life force of his victims but can also be used as a mode of transportation. Since Shin's tendency to engage in combat is next to none, whether he has been able to master his fox-fire skills remains a mystery.

Illustions: Although it is an ability he has the potential to learn, someone has yet to teach him how. He's especially bad at anything that requires him to connect to other people on a deeper level.

HISTORY

Shin, unlike most fox spirits, which are traditionally are foxes who have lived beyond a certain age and thus trancend into spirithood – was the born the love child of a human father and a kitsune mother. His memories of his mother are vague, as he was only four years old when she suddenly disappeared. Though he still had his father, the man was a fool at heart. Not particularly surprising, considering he fell for the charms of a fox. He preferred to spend money over earning it and soon found himself head over heals in debt. In a last desperate attempt to ensure that his son was fed and dressed properly – something he could no longer afford, he attempted selling his son to a geisha house. It was a business that only succeeded because of Shin's pretty face and uniquely white hair.

That said, his time at the there was not going to be particularly long lived. The onee-san he was apprenticed to was both strict and often harsh. Amongst the geisha she had a reputation of treating her maiko badly, but her popularity amongst patrons allowed her to get away with it. As he found himself under constant distress, the poor fox spirits developing powers started going out of control.

In the third year of the Meireki imperial era, a great fire that destroyed almost 70% of Edo and claimed over a 100 000 lives came to plague the Japanese capital.

It was an accident. Of course it was – no child of eight years would purposfully cause a disaster so big. And yet it was that very fire, that in history has been compared to the Kanto earth quake and the US bombings of Tokyo, that finally set him free from his misery. As he wandered the blazing streets of Edo – in a tattered kimono and an elaborate hairpins still stuck in his hair; terrifyed as he came to realize that he could no longer control the fire, it was a blue light that became his savior. Her name was Koizumi, and though he didn't know at the time that she was a youkai like himself, there was something about her that felt comfortingly familiar. So he followed her. Even as she tried to shoo him away, he would not let go of her kimono. He was persistent, and eventually she had no choice but allow him to come along. Thrust into the arms of a human daimyo named Ikki, he was given the name Shingetsu and finally seemed to have found a place he could properly call home.

At this point, Shin's memories of his time with Koizumi and Ikki is patchy, at best. A lot is missing and although he can't exactly put his finger on what the problem is, somehow thinking back to those times makes him feel anxious. Generally the memories he has are happy, and he soon grew fond of both Koizumi and the human.

Thus, he never really did understand why Koizumi decided they should leave during that one night. Trusting Koizumi, he followed along without complaint. And yet he couldn't help but wonder why. And yet to this day, he has never once asked Koizumi. Perhaps because deep down, he already knew the answer, and it was the truth he feared most of all.

The life that followed with Koizumi in Takamagahara was a nice and peaceful. His existence has been incredibly sheltered – perhaps even too much so. Still, he's made himself at least a little useful by taking care of the business side of Koizumi's kimono shop, as she is... quite terrible at dealing with people. I would like to argue that he turned out just fine but... his personality really does speak against it.

RELATIONSHIPS

Koizumi: Koizumi is like a sister to Shin. He loved her above all, and although he can find her somewhat overbearing at times, he knows that she means well. Even if at times... her methods of showing it are questionable at best. Due to her inability to deal properly with customers, he handles the business side of the kimono shop. This division of labor works surprisingly well for them, and shows what they're capable of achieving when working as a team -- despite both being completely socially inapt.

Karasu: Whenever Karasu enters the picture, Shin's mood turns sour. Because the raven keeps insisting on teasing Shin, he has developed quite some animosity, if not mixed feelings in regards to the spirit. On the one hand he really hates being teased all the time, but on the other it is likely that he'd be sad if Karasu stopped showing up altogether. It certainly doesn't help that Karasu keeps poking his deepest insecurities, when all Shin just really thinks he's extremely attractive. Not... that you'll ever hear him admitting to it.

He's mostly finished now. Only have relationships left but I'll leave that for tomorrow. o-o

The Daidarabotchi (大太郎法師, Literally giant priest) Daidarabotchi are colossal humanoids which resemble bald-headed priests. are so large that their movements shape the world. They build mountains by piling up rocks and dirt. They even pick up and move mountains to other places. When they walk, they leave lakes and valleys behind in their footprints. Because of this, many places across Japan are believed to have been made by daidarabotchi. Some are even named after them. Sometimes said to pose as a mountain range when sleeping

  • Personality:
"The Seal of the Abandoned Hell? I wonder what would become of this world if it were to break"
At first glance, he is a strange, curious Yokai that wishes to see what great change would happen to the world if it was forced to deal with cataclysms, he believes that such questions should be answered in the only way possible, by causing calamities, in short he would essentially bring about destruction for no other reason than to simply satisfy his own personal curiosity. His curiosities extend to other Yokai wishing to study them by arguing philosophies or autopsies after killing them.

This lead to moments of sociopathic tendencies as he coldly regards every yokai with indifference, no matter how powerful or well known, to him they are simply questions that need to be dissected for answers. He also arrogantly believes that all other Yokai are tiny and insignificant calling them by their species name even if they have names.

Though some believe he is simply acting out of boredom due to his long life, it in fact goes deeper then that. When his secret is found out he reveals himself as a petulant monster who sees every other living thing as toys that he can play with and break to amuse himself. He sees the world as his playground for him to do as he pleases and actively wants the disrupting effects of the Unsealing to take place so that he can mold and break Takamagahara into the way he wants to.

  • Abilities:

(What he looks like under the wraps)
"You claim victory, but I can never die, killing this form is akin to plucking hair from my head"

"Weight of his Will": While his true form sleeps, through magic and will power, Kazu can create avatars of himself, through the earth around the mountain that is his sleeping form, it is similar to a humanoid form but due to Kazu's misunderstandings of humans his shades are usually in states of decay. They can be rebuilt after one dies as it is not his true form that is killed but it does harm him, though it takes time for him to create a new one.

"Weight of his Whisper": Understandably for a Yokai his size, Kazu is obscenely strong, with his maximum limit being able to lift mountains, his Avatar form has weaker limits, with his maximum weight limit being the size of whales.

"Weight of his Wrath": Kazu can summon his sword from anywhere which is very skilled with, It has several unique properties to allow it to kill without losing its edge or otherwise stagnating. Its self-sharpening edge is berthed to it by having a sizable portion of the blade chipped away in a regular, serrated pattern, which allows it to lose none of its feel regardless of the number of men it slays.

"Weight of his Whim": His will is very powerful and it is advised not to try and over power his mind, magic, or soul as it creates a whiplash effect that can seriously harm those that try it.

"Weight of his World": The very earth seemingly bends to his will, allowing him to control it in various ways, moving the smallest pebble up to large slabs of rock, to creating large divides or sinkholes, to creating small earthquakes. though how much and how powerful depends on how much time and concentration he is given.

  • Relationships:
Kiyoto Aizawa - Aizawa is loyal to Kazu as he believes that he is one of the pinnacles of all true yokai (this also extends to the villainous yokai as well)

  • History:
"The Tale of the Great Seals of the Abandoned Hell and Takamagahara, It is a curious tale — and one worth exploring. They say ruin brings about creation. So what, then, would another Calamity bring? When the seals fall, will we be found worthy to seal them once again? I must have these answers"

One of the few Daidarabotchi left in creation, The Daidarabotchi believed in merely having fun with the world around them whether in the human world or the yokai realm, shaping the world around them out of pure harmless curiosity. They never would harm other living beings and would create lakes and mountains for their neighbors to enjoy. Some would say that they created Okanyama and Ryugukawa for there Yokai neighbors but such things are disputed.

What is known as truth was that one of them could not stop their fun and this Daidarabotchi decided that all that lives are mere playthings to be taken apart and that the world should simply be his playground so that he can do whatever he wishes. With that whole cities from both realms were destroyed, along with the lives of the people that lived in them, torn apart like broken dolls.

The other of his kind decided that he must be stopped and through a fierce battle that shook the very pillars of Heaven, Kazu was defeated and lulled into a deep magically induced sleep that would never be broken. But through the chaos that has created the unsealing, Kazu is slowly awakening.

From the mountain south of Kinmokusei (Mt.Ōmitsunu), nearly touching the garden of Venus, beneath it, there lies the Temple of the Six Tennin, long abandoned, its bells were created to keep the Earthshaker from awakening , yet its very roots have become corrupted by the very presences of the Yokai it is keeping asleep and a bandaged, rotting thing in the shape of a man walks its ground. Awaiting for the time when his true form can walk in the yokai realm once again.

So because this RP has gotten too slow for me (I prefer a fast paced one) and because I just don't have the same interest as I did at the start, I will politely have to drop from this. Hope you guys continue to have a fun time!
