It's always kind of annoying when you want to join something and the people running it have stuff like: no teenagers, no kids, mature people only yada yada. Guess it's the stereotypes.

Ah, yeah I guess that could be annoying. :o Perhaps they have r-rated themes in the RPs?
 
Well it's not that kids aren't exposed to that these days. The sexual stuff is not open for people under 18 out is because of child pornography laws, but there really is no laws against fictional violence involving people under 18...

Exactly. I don't see the need to exclude people from an rp that doesn't have sexual content. It's extremely rude and uncalled for.
 
Well I don't know if it's rude and uncalled for. Perhaps that person just doesn't feel right about younger audience reading extreme violence/language/etc? And would rather not have their RP somewhere where there's libertine content?
 
Well, younger people can still READ it if they want to, just click the IC thread and they can read, they just can't participate.
 
It's just like with video games, I feel. Labels say the ratings and parents (hopefully) try to enforce them, but if someone's off at a friend's house and they're playing the game there, who's stopping them from watching. Except they could probably play there, unlike the RP.
 
B-But Iwaku is already 13+ :( and it's textual violence not even graphical violence.

Oh well, if no RPs for me I'll go back to the drawing board, literally.
 
Oh, I'm just playing the neutral card here ^_^ I've rp'd with people of all sorts of ages, from teens to 40s and all in between. I'm just finding reasoning as to why someone may put restrictions.
 
Oh well, maybe it's the whole negative image teenagers seem to impose on people. I would've gotten an adult account but I'm scared that the admins would rip me for that :P Plenty of good RPs that welcome teens I guess, just need to find them, or make my own or something.
 
Honestly I think this roleplay could fit under 18+ rules. Roth has a Harem and one of our characters is one of those poor girls, a real victim, and there are certainly brutal scenes to come, but the thing is you know what you're getting into. You don't join a world this dark and expect it to be rainbows and sunshine. The very atmosphere says "Dark as fuck, go away if you don't like it."
 
I personally will RP in a RP that's not 18+, but if I was ever making one, I think I would enforce an 18+ rule. You can always lie and say that you are 18+ when you're not, and as long as you're acting that way, I'll never really know. However, even though in the world of the internet where a 14 year old can look at all the porn he wants by clicking "yes, I'm over 18" on a screen, I've noticed that in the world of RP it seemingly tends to keep the younger population at bay.

All it really does is give one peace of mind that they can have a RP with mature discussion and need not worry about Pimpleface McYoungbones coming in and ruining things. This isn't to say all people that aren't eighteen are like this, but in my experience, a lot of the "shitters" tend to be 15-21.

Shitters can be of any age, but if you can select a quick option that gives you the belief, however wrong it may be, that you're cutting a big portion of them out, why not? However, when it comes to RPs with violence, I'd never put in a 18+ tag alone for that. Are you really going to sit there and tell me that Little Jimmy over here can watch people getting their heads chopped off on television but he can't write about people getting their heads chopped off on a site dedicated to writing fictional RP? Get real.

EDIT: But hey, while I'm at it, I personally would seek out RPs with the 18+ tag because those tend to be RPs with themes I enjoy. I do enjoy darker themed RP, and they tend to be the ones with the 18+ tag. While I'm not saying those without them aren't, not by a long shot, I do notice how a lot of the ones without the tag tend to be Dank Weeaboo Fantasy Extreme, LOLXDSORANDOM: The RP. The RPs that I particularly enjoy, just tend to have the 18+ tag on them.

With that being said, I enjoy this one a lot so far. I knew I would, but that's also because I know Squee and he and I go pretty far back.
 
Here we are with the age topic again, well I guess I am the only one with this problem as a big thing since I don't have a shiny red star beside my username yet. I don't know if I'm being too self assured but I don't really think that I'm a "shitter" or generally teenager-ish annoying compared to...others, but I will never try to get into those RPs with 18+ rules, trying to explain myself probably will make me look bad.
