The more sips of tea she took, the more Carina sank back into her pillows, soon uncaring about the straight back posture she would typically have around Sven. He could berate her about it, but she truly wouldn't give a damn. The warm drink had a level of sweetness to it that she suspected was added due to the shocks of the day, but the chamomile and lavender herbal tea was doing its job of lulling her toward sleep. Even the sudden, yet short, appearance of Sven's frustrations and anger didn't even cause her muscles to tense back up again.
"I just wanted to make sure we were on the same page," she answered coolly, eyes on the tea as she swirled the liquid around in her cup, "Besides, I'm fully aware of how quick you are to act on your emotions, Sven. I'm simply covering all bases."
Reluctantly, the young queen finished her tea and placed it back on the tray. However instead of picking up the food, she left it a moment, allowing her hands to rest absently on her stomach over where the bump would soon form. Her eyes flickered over Sven's form as he revealed his private, emotional thoughts, surprised that he was divulging such information to her. It wasn't exactly something she expected him to admit to her, perhaps to Thorin and maybe even to Lauren but never her. However, she couldn't figure out what he was referring to with his excitement. Was it the natural want of an heir that came with any King? Did he only care about the child because he wanted a way to consolidate his rule over the kingdom and ensure that the Ignisi royal name continued?
Or did this brutal king actually care about being a father?
The second possibility seemed to much to as for when it came to such a cunning and calculating being. Yet Carina knew she couldn't dismiss it entirely.
The smile on his face was slightly unnerving. Not because of the expression, but because of how genuine it seemed. Sven was truly happy about this pregnancy and, either way, seemed extremely excited for the child's arrival.
"Wait, you actually punished Thorin?" Carina finally spoke, looking up from the tray and back to him. She had inwardly been debating trying some of the food he had brought up, but his words had come as a shock. She hadn't imagined that Sven would actually punish someone he considered his closest friend. Perhaps a slap on the wrist but never an actual punishment paired with a demotion, "Why?"
