Going to the Testing room, Clark was, surprisingly in good spirits as he walked near Ries, and Cagliostro . After all the bad thing that had happened, and the pain he was feeling, Lucifer admitting the truth, it empower his own beliefs. If even the devil could change slightly, anyone or thing can. Clark, unlike Riesbyfe, he wasn't a man of faith. Clark faith was in his fellow man. That was a trait that always showed. Cagliostro said he was "too decent". Good. If the word is neighing but darkness, you need one person to show people the light, to be the standard barer. Going back the holy knight, the man of steel tapped on her shoulder. The two had not talked much since what happened to Lana.

"How are you holding up?"

Chapter Five
"Fever and Confusion"

The Story So Far
After placing their vote on Jinx as the suspected traitor with the murders of Ada Wong, Doremi, and Jabber, a suspicion that turned out to be false, the group had no choice but to press on and take their losses. Eventually, their journey led them further up the facility, re-modeled by Umbrella into a strange mansion. From there, the group spread out once again in order to explore the strange facility, finding themselves in either the West or East Halls.

Those in the East Hall had come across a man rather familiar with Clark known as Lex Luthor, the man also happening to be working with Umbrella, and as such, possessed knowledge of the workings of the group's situation. He had presented them with a choice; execute a hostage that he had waiting for the group named Lana Lang, or suffer three murders the next time the Traitors struck. After a heated debate due to Lana's connection to both Luthor and Clark, the group unable to retaliate against Luthor thanks to his fail-safe panel capable of reactivating the devices inside the group, it was eventually decided to execute Lana, much to the reluctance of the majority of the group. To add insult to injury, Luthor proceeded to then infect the group with a sample of the T-Virus for the sake of insurance, as he described.

The West Hall, meanwhile, traversed through the depths of the strange mansion, including a peculiar mirror hall and a rotting kitchen. They suffered the same fate as the other group, falling victim to a trap that had infected everyone with the T-Virus, leaving everyone in a dire situation with little time to cure themselves, else they would fall victim to the virus, and death would be the least of their problems.

After the groups had reunited, solving a puzzle to unlock a reinforced door in the meantime, everyone stumbled across a large lounge area where the Traitors struck again, this time the victims being Cullen Bloodstone and Azura of Nohr, with Lex Luthor also present and very nearly being taken down as well, though narrowly surviving. After a thorough investigation, the group pointed their fingers now at Lucifer Morningstar, revealed by Wanda to indeed be another Traitor.

Turning on five more feeds, the group viewed feed 20, which showed little more than a large office. Inlaid in the marble floor was Umbrella's logo, red and white patterned in a circle... or, an umbrella. Beyond the office desk, there was little more to the room of note. At the edge of the screen, the group could just barely see a wheelchair. Someone was sitting in it, but most of them were just out of view. With nothing else to see, the feed was switched.

On feed 19 was Albert Wesker, except he wasn't wearing his lab coat anymore. He stood in an elevator, messing with something in his hand. It was impossible to tell what it was. After a moment, he stopped this action and began to look up slowly. His hand reached up to his sunglasses, lowering them just a bit so that his yellow eyes were shining.

dvpdrHq.jpg

He looked directly into the camera for a moment before it suddenly turned black. Lalonde cleared her throat upon seeing this. "Let us hope that was just a coincidence," she said, before hurriedly switching to the next feed.

Feed 18 showed a dark room, but something could just barely be seen in the darkness. What appeared to be a tall humanoid was standing in the darkness, with tubes or wires connected to him. He seemed to shine, as if metallic. There was not much to see beyond this, so Lalonde switched away soon enough.

Feed 17 was nothing special, for it only showed a fancy room in disarray. The remains of what seemed to be an elevator were visible, the doors smashed in and the cables that held the car broken apart. With no activity to see, Lalonde switched the feed again.

Wesker appeared once again, this time on feed 16. He was back in his lab coat, holding a clipboard and looking away from the camera. He was writing on it quickly and furiously, talking seemingly into something the group couldn't see. There didn't seem to be much going on in this room otherwise.

"We must be so close," said Lalonde. "Which feed should we try next?"

Wanda's eyes narrowed on Lucifer. For just a moment she seemed angry, but it passed as quickly as it came. "Perhaps you lie. Perhaps something greater than yourself has used you as you have used others. Do you know the name... Diablo?" She took a breath, closing her eyes as if trying to maintain a sense of calm. "... Don't bother answering. It doesn't matter right now."

"She's right," Claire said, looking confused whether or not she should keep aiming her gun at Lucifer. She eventually settled on holstering it. "Most of us have been infected now, so it's only a matter of time... I knew producing a serum is possible, so our best bet is to climb into the elevator and get somewhere where that's possible."

As it turned out, the two women didn't know how right they were.

In mere moments, the mutated creature that had been stalking the group smashed through the wall of the room, taking out Daizo in the process. The monster then roared as tentacles slid out from his coat to wrap around Nashetania and pull her toward him.

"Run!" Claire screamed, ushering the group toward the elevator, the bunny girl's screams following them as they ran. The doors opened quickly and it was spacious enough for all to fit. It seemed those who remained would escape once the doors began to shut, but the monster's tentacles snaked in and pulled out poor Charlotte before they fully closed. The elevator then began to move down, but a heavy bump from above caused the whole thing to shake, and the group went into freefall, going down and down until stopping suddenly.

Not all were knocked to their feet in that moment, but all felt a strange noise in their head. It was a voice, whispering to them. It was male but sultry, both alluring and repulsive at once. It carried with it the image of fire and brimstone. There was a great pressure from all sides and everything felt hot. It was almost too much to bear, until--

There was silence.

...

"... One hell of a ride," Leon mumbled, moving to his feet. He rubbed at his head, feeling a bump. "Was I out or something?" He looked up at the elevator's ceiling.

"It's been an hour," Claire said, sitting on the ground and staring at a watch on her wrist. "I think we all... collectively... passed out for an hour." Claire and Leon exchanged a glance, knowing that didn't make much sense at all.

"If we've lost an hour, it means a lot of us are going to start feeling sick soon. You understand? We're going to have to split up in the next area to cover more ground."

When the elevator doors were pried open, the group found a dull gray hallway awaiting them. A split in the hall led down two paths. One was labeled vaguely as Testing, while the other was called Power.

vmjC0pY.png

"We're... We're near it. The Tesseract. I can... almost feel it," Riesbyfe mumbled, despite the fact that she, as far as she could remember anyway, had never been in contact with the device supposedly able to transport everyone back to where they had once come from. She had been carrying Adam but dumped him now for someone else to deal with.

"Everyone, we are near the endgame. I can feel it, but... All the more reason to keep your guard up. Do take care as always," she said to everyone, and with that, it was time to move once again.

"You'd think the end would look a bit more... interesting," Leon mumbled, but said little else as he hefted Adam over his shoulder. Someone had to do it.

"Nashetania's gone... Hmmm... we should go with Testing. My instincts tell me that the testing room has a chance of containing the Tessarect, since they're likely to want to see its potential, and the supposed cure for the T-Virus..."

Those that decided to head towards Testing soon enough found a door at the end of the corridor. Opening the door lead to an area with cages stacked to the left side of the room while the right side seemed to a house a gigantic aquarium inside the wall. Blood and assorted bits of gore could be seen around the cages and the aquarium seemed to be empty.

"Must be a huge goldfish to get a fish bowl like that." 18 quipped.

The hallway marked as "Power" took a few sharp turns before the sound of heavy machinery working could be heard. It was a vague sound and it wasn't entirely clear what the machinery could be for. Even as the group would approach, they would only realize what they were hearing until they were standing over the machines.

"I guess Power just means the power room," Leon said, looking below his feet and through the gaps in the catwalk now were now standing on. The catwalk crisscrossed over the heavy machines, some of them flashing periodically with an electric shock.

"Looks pretty old..." Claire said, leaning over a railing. "And it doesn't fit with the mansion at all. Though, I suppose that's standard for Umbrella."

Leon paused to think. "Should we try messing with the machines? Might be better to leave them alone, I guess."

"Yeah, I don't know..."

James Proudstar. Warpath

James laughed to himself, as Clark zoomed in front of him to punch Caligostro's Beasty. Might as well have not said anything. At least the pretty alchemist gave Clark all the heat. . It was clear to him, Clark would be someone special someday, and we would a member of a team.

As the group reached the next level, after the brief blackout, James noticed the majority of people heading to testing. He decided the to head to the power area. He was though starting to feel nausea in his stomach and a bit of a headache.

As they reached the power room, James paused and looked down withe the others.

"We should save this for later, as you've said, a good place to do some damage.. to this place and ourselves"

Domon was quite surprised to hear that Lucifer was a traitor. Even though he was literally the devil, he seemed like a pretty agreeable and friendly guy. But then again, Azura was also not the kind of person you would expect to be a murderer, so it made sense that Lucifer wasn't either. It was clear that they were indeed under someone else's control.

When it came time for the group to split up yet again, Domon decided to head with the others towards the Testing area.

The young man looked around the room as he entered behind the others, an expression of slight disgust on his face. "So I guess this area must be where they test those monsters that have been attacking us..." He looked at the bits of gore surrounding the cages and shuddered. He didn't want to think about the kinds of things that had happened in this room.

When the elevator doors were pried open, the group found a dull gray hallway awaiting them. A split in the hall led down two paths. One was labeled vaguely as Testing, while the other was called Power.

Schala Zeal
@Atomyk @LuckycoolHawk9 @Josh M
@Power

Schala waited rather patiently, a look of worry quiet evident on her face as she wondered if her vote was correct... And soon enough, as the last of the votes trickled in, and Wana used her powers to check up on this, it turns out that Lucifer had been one of the killers!

What was more was that as he explained which of the kills he had been involved with, Schala soon came to see the connections, rubbing her chin. So, it seemed they had at least one more killer to go... Her eyes darting around, lingering on Alucard once again for a moment, it was still uncertain, but she still suspected that he might be one of the killers. Though they would have to see next time Wanda's powers were back.

Seeing Lucifer's apparent regret about the whole thing, Schala couldn't find it in her to execute him... So instead, she offered a gentle smile, feeling a bit more confident with Clark willing to spare his life too, to the degree that he even protected him, and Lex from Cagliostro's monster.

"I... Forgive you too." She said quietly.

Giving the bodies one last, sorrowfull look, she prepared to continue on with the rest of the group, but before she could... That creature from before smashed through the walls, killing a members of her group and before she could even attempt to cast an offensive spell, it began to extend its horrendous tendrils towards them, taking another life. Knowing there was no time to stay and face this thing, she ran as fast as her legs could carry her.

In the heat of the moment, she hadn't even the time to cast "haste" in order to speed up a single group member, or her own movements as she dove into the elevator. Just before the doors close though, its dentrils snaked in, and took one more group member just before they managed to get away.

With a sigh of relief, she started to relax, but it would appear that she had done so a bit too early. A heavy bump from above, followed by a jolt as they went into a freefall made her heart skip a beat as she clutched tightly onto literally anything she could get ahold of... In a futile effort to steady herself, it looked like this might be the end, likely by the actions of that creature that had been following them severing the cable that had once held this elevator up.

However, when the car came to an abrupt stop, it seemed that even as hard as she gripped whatever she had managed to get ahold of... It wasn't enough, she was quickly knocked off balance, laying on the cold, hard floor of the elevator, with a rather strange voice filling her mind... One that was pleasant, but yet... Repulsive... Accompanied by the image of fire and brimstone, and a distinct pressure from all sides along with an unbearable heat...

Sooner or later though, it all came to an end, and she shakily clambered to her feet, trying to shake off that uncomfortable feeling she got about what she had experienced. Whatever had happened, it seemed like she and the rest of the group had inexplicably passed out for roughly an hour.

It was quite odd that they all seemed to have lost conscious for that precise timeframe... A little suspicious, in fact, but Leon's words instantly reminded her of the gravity of the situation; they were still infected with the T-Virus, and it just had an hour to freely do its thing while they were out. They had to find the cure, and they had to find it fast.

When the elevator doors were pried open, Schala seemed to ponder her options. The cure was their number one priority, and that would likely be found somewhere down the hall labeled "testing", but the Tesseract was also high on their list of priorities, as it was only a matter of time before Umbrella did something dastardly with its power. Well, besides bring them here and try to make them fight for their cause that is.

Such a thing seemed likely to be found somewhere down the hall labeled "power".

All things considered, despite the urgency of their situation, Schala decided to head along the hall labeled power, figuring she'd at least try and cripple Umbrella a little... If the Tesseract was indeed down there, before she continued her search for a cure.

The sooner an object of such power was out of the hands of Umbrella, the better.

There was nothing else to say. Maybe he didn't want to delve into the subject. Maybe he didn't have the energy to focus onto the topic. Either way, Blake figured it was best to move on. Progress to their goal wasn't going to be made if they dwell in the past, but for some reason, he knew that he had a bit of hypocrisy in his own ideology on what to do next. A part of him didn't want to move onto the future fully, a part of him wanted to remind him that he was unable to save people in any method possible.

Unsure on what to even say to the revealed traitors, Blake didn't want to say anything anyways. Following those to the power section, Blake didn't seem to be that interested at first, until he saw some of the machinery that was in this room. It wasn't exactly something of note, but machinery was his comfort zone. It was something that he managed to freely indulge himself in before he had taken up the role of a hired assassin.

"These machines might be basic power generators, which means taking these out would only cause a power outage. Unless there's something that does... something different. If only I can get a better look at these and figure out on what they're used for..."

"We're just as likely to get ourselves trapped if we took these out," Claire said, basically agreeing with Blake. She opened her mouth to say more, but movement at the other end of the catwalks caused her to turn suddenly and aim her gun in that direction. A shot went off, but it wasn't Claire who fired. Leon yelped as both he and Adam fell to the ground, eliciting a yell of worry from Claire, who began to fire on the dark figure.

The shooter fled, disappearing for view in some manner. "What the hell?!" Claire exclaimed. "We need to catch them!"

Lalonde decided to go ahead and choose the next feeds, going through 8 and 9. Eight showed a storage room, though everyone but Lalonde would recognize it as the area SHIELD had kept them while they deactivated the chips in their heads. Nine showed another familiar sight-- the water treatment floor where Alice and Scott Lang had been killed. Cullen grumbled at the feed.

18 had been quiet as the the whole voting had gone on. She was certainly relieved that they had found another traitor, even if her face didn't show it.

"Testing sounds like it could be fun." 18 deadpanned. "I'll join you guys there."

The Nohrian frowned at the sight of the feeds from 8 and 9, the latter almost being like a slap in the face of what she may have done as a traitor.

Feed 10 showed the remains of the holding cells where the licker creatures once were. Blood was splattered across the floor as a grim reminder of the fighting that occurred there. "Do they even have a camera on the vault?" Cullen asked impatiently.

As Azura switched to feed 11, Lalonde said, "That's the hope."

The new feed showed a room on the drug manufacturing floor, near the elevator. The remains of an explosion were evident, as was traces of blood. If it wasn't already clear, it seemed obvious now that Umbrella had cleaned up the bodies well.

She tried to look for the shooter but found it was almost impossible to see beyond the machines.

For quite a while, Schala seemed almost mesmerized with the machines around her, and though they didn't exactly find the Tesseract here... She was certainly tempted to investigate them further, seeming a bit happy actually to see that Blake had joined her, however at the mention of the potential of being trapped if something went wrong with the machines, she nodded.

"Then... Perhaps we should-..." She started.

Her voice was quickly cut off by the abrupt sound of gunfire... And through the shadows, she saw a dark figure fleeing out of her field of view, but not for long... At least, not if she could do anything about it.

With a brisk moment, she concentrated, casting haste on herself before she rushed after the figure... With the extra burst of speed hopefully giving her the help she needed.

Though the shooter was unseen, even as she rushed after them, it quickly turned out that Claire recognized her as someone named Annette... Perhaps an old friend? Or in this case... Likely a rival.

At any rate, whoever they were, they didn't sound very happy about their decision to help SHIELD, and though they remained hidden, they still seemed to want to inquire what they hoped to accomplish, and thus... Schala decided to speak up.

"It is true that I... Don't know if they will truly send us home..." She admitted, almost as if she had begun to question her own decisions.

However, that uncertainty quickly faded, both from her expression, and her voice as she continued.

"But it was Umbrella who brought us here with this... Tesseract's power... And it was they, who tried to use us... ... While SHIELD, set us free from our bonds..."
As she continued, there was a distinct sound of confidence in her voice, something that she had lacked for so long... Until recently that is.

"So, I believe it would be much... Safer... For such an artifact to remain in the hands of SHIELD..." She said, rather firmly.

While she could never be completely certain who to truly trust in this situation... To her, it seemed that SHIELD was more trustworthy than Umbrella, with the task of handling something with the power they were told Tesseract was capable of...

"A... Cold," Setsuna repeated, seeming to contemplate this. "This is a temperature. Correct?" she inquired, confused by Shirou's reaction. "I have heard of this, yes. Why do you ask? Shirou?" Not that it mattered. The focus was quickly drawn to other events, and even so, she was obviously still clueless.

Onto the murder.

After joining in investigating the scene, Setsuna did as she always did. Did as was, well, her nature. Or perhaps not her true nature, but rather, what she had been taught was how she was supposed to be. "...Shirou. What do you wish of me?" she asked, steadily. Looked like she still wasn't really picking up on his desire for her to act independently. Which, honestly? Was understandable, considering her whole life all she had known was following orders, and punishment if she were to fail to do so.

@Kaykay
"Aaah, man," Shirou complained, clicking his tongue as the group began to move along. "Oi Setsuna. You're still gonna ask me where I wanna go, ain't ya?"

He paused for a moment, inhaling some smoke from his cigarette before tapping off the ashes. She still didn't want to think on her own it seemed. Shirou didn't really know what was up with her, why she was like this, or anything like that, but that attitude was beginning to bug him. Smirking as usual, he then told her what he "wished of her."

"I wanna go where you wanna go. Then? Where does that put us, huh?"

Claire gasped at the sound. "Annette?" she asked but got no response. Instead, Annette continued what she had to say, unseen for the moment.

"Steal the Tesseract? Give it to SHIELD like obedient dogs and hope they have the power to send you home? Is that what you truly think will happen?"

The question lingered in the air. No one spoke for a moment, and only the sounds of the machines could be heard.

"If that's not the case... then I'll use it myself to fix everything. There has to be a way through this. Don't try to be an obstacle."

Blake didn't appear to be fazed by Annette's question. He seriously wasn't going to let this be a stop to what he wanted to achieve. He wanted to ensure a happy ending for people, so this was the only way for him. Staring straight into the darkness where he heard the woman's voice, he rested his hand by his PWM cube as if he were willing to cut someone down to ensure that he found a possible solution to this mess.

Jason would eventually find that the trail led down a metal staircase, where one could only navigate within the narrow spaces in between the machines. Claire caught up with Jason soon enough, boldly stepping down the stairs and into the cramped maze below. She held her gun out, aiming it in front of her in case anything crossed their path. She tried to look for the shooter but found it was almost impossible to see beyond the machines.

"What do you possibly hope to accomplish?" asked a female voice.

Jason stopped for a second to think. Sure, maybe SHIELD was lying to them. Maybe they were all just pawns in one big game. But they'd come so far, they were so damn close to this thing that he could practically taste it.

"It's a risk I'm willing to take." He said before holstering his guns and continuing on. While they were here, Jason stopped to see if there was any way to power down the machines. Why? No reason in particular other than to be a dick to the people who stuck him in this hellhole.

There didn't seem to be any buttons or switches on the machines, leaving the only way to power them down to be to destroy them.

"Safer with them? Perhaps that's impossible... Perhaps we've opened pandora's box." Annette's voice seemed to be in a different location now. Claire moved along quickly, taking a right at her first chance but finding only another empty path.

"To use the Tesseract like we have, it's not something they have ever considered. Maybe they're right about the potential for destruction, but even they couldn't have known what we've accomplished. The mansion you walked through to get here, did it seem out of place to you? You see, we did not build it. As you know, this was an abandoned SHIELD facility only slightly modified by us, but that mansion appeared one day, replacing one of the floors completely. The work of messing with time and space, no doubt."

Claire let out an annoyed noise. "Leon, are you all right?!" she yelled toward the catwalk above.

"Don't worry about me," he said, sounding strained.
