He realised, as she slid her notes over to him, that this girl was incredibly intelligent. He was getting good grades, which for him was miraculous given he'd been raised away from all this human knowledge, but he was nowhere near as smart as he quickly discovered Angelica was-- and he found that genuinely impressive of her, that she was smart but didn't feel the need to shout it from the rooftops. He liked that she was boastful or narcissistic. He knew far too many of those types of girls, both back home and in this school.

Jessica being one of them.

"...I have a project to do with Angelica," he awkwardly explained, frowning as he avoided her eyes. He'd always come up with any excuse not to hang out, but at least this time the excuse was true. "We need to get a good grade, so... I can't, Jess, sorry."

"Angelica? Oh, her." She mumbled, glancing at her as if she just now noticed her. "Hey, Angelica. How's your brother Ember? Ember is so handsome~" She grinned, before standing up from the table. "And Wren, just let me know when you want to hang out." She cooed, stroking his cheek, before walking away.

Angelica glanced at her, before looking at Wren. "...You and Jessica are friends?" She asked quietly, glancing over her notes.

"Jessica and me-- I mean, she's always been nice to me but I'm not fond of her. She's very... false. I imagine she's insulting me to her friends because I turned her invitation down. I'd rather talk to someone who doesn't hide how they truly feel, really. I mean, that's what's good about you. I annoyed you a lot over these weeks and you didn't hide it and that's... sort of what I like in a person," he shrugged awkwardly again, his eyes still locked to the table as he read over a few doodles that had been scraped into the wood, doing his best to avoid eye contact. It just made him uncomfortable and awkward and he really wasn't a great fan of it, even if he knew he had to learn how to do it if he wanted to somehow charm Angelica into loving him.

"....She is false...She hates me because...A while back she was trying to use me to get to my twin, Ember. It didn't work, and she thinks maybe I tried to sabotage it or whatever. Em just never liked her, but she blames me for it." Mumbled the girl, before glancing at Wren. "Well...We should get to work...Wren." She smiled softly,

"Is he the guy with all the tattoos? I mean, I... I figured that was your brother after I saw him hug you in the hallway. You don't seem like you'd hug a lot of people so I assumed he was your brother or cousin or something-- he's very popular, isn't he?" He commented absently as he opened up his books, ready to get some work done before the class was over. Secretly, though, he was hoping that they didn't get much done so they would have to meet up after school - it was the perfect opportunity to get to socialise with her in a less academic, educational surrounding.

"Yeah, that's him...He's really popular...Everyone loves him." She replied, glancing away with a small smile. "We're...We're different. But we still get along...He's my best friend." She admitted happily. It was true, she and Ember were close. Since they were so close in age. "Do you have any siblings?"

"...Nope. Just me and my Dad. My... mom... she died when I was a kid. She was really depressed, I guess, so-- hey, it's fine. I have my Dad and he's in the army and stuff, so he's a bit of a tough guy, but with a heart of gold. I'd love a sibling, but that's not happening anytime soon," grinned the dragon as he quietly cracked his knuckles. Honestly, he had always desired a sibling. He didn't quite understand how Mark could want his sister dead. It didn't seem fair - he had a sibling and a family he wanted to kill, yet Wren's family had been torn apart. All he wanted was a proper family, and yet Mark, who had that, was choosing to kill them and hurt them instead-

But he couldn't -and wouldn't- question his King. Mark could tell him to kill a whole town, and Wren would do so without questioning his motive.

"So, uh... yeah. Ember seems like a lot of fun, but... I dunno, you're fun too."

"...I am? Umm..Thanks." She mumbled, surprised. She honestly didn't think that he would think she was fun. It was actually nice...To have someone think of her as fun, even if she thought she was boring. After that day a few more weeks past. Their friendship was going...Exceedingly well. They hung out a lot. At first, it was only for their project, but after receiving an A on it it was just to hang out.

They played Mario Kart, went to the zoo, the park, laser tag, movies, everything. They hung out so much and were almost always together. But the last week they were hanging out Angelica actually started to...Do her hair. Yeah, like brush it, and have it styled. Not only that but she started to wear lip gloss. It didn't have color, just clear, but it looked nice on her. Today, however, she had on yet another weird outfit on. Her short blonde hair was straightened out, so it stopped nicely at her chin. She had on a little lip gloss, and she looked...Well adorable. It was weird though that she was starting to care about her looks.

The change in Angelica was incredibly obvious. At first, though, it wasn't. Back home, things had been tense. The threat Mark had left Cassy with had eventually been told to Marco, and thus the family had been on tenterhooks, awaiting an attack. When so much time passed without that, things melted back into normalcy and Ember, like others in their family, finally began to notice his little sister's... change. She seemed happier, her hair was getting done, she was making an effort to look good-- and he realised who it was for.

On that day, he silently stared at her from across her bedroom, his eyebrow arched as she put on lipgloss.

"All this effort for that guy, Wren? Is he that special to you?" Cooed Ember as he folded his arms over his chest. "...Ar you going bowling or something? He better be taking you somewhere nice or I'm gonna be the protective big brother and beat his ass."

She rolled her eyes, her cheeks flushing a bit. "He's...He's really nice." She mumbled happily, biting her lip before turning to face him "How do I look? Do I look nice? Do you think he'd like it?" Angie was...well she really liked Wren. She didn't want to mess things up between them by being her weird self. So she decided to put a little effort into her looks. "I feel silly."

"Hey Ember, have you seen my phone?...Angie? Well, well, well, look at you~" Cassy cooed, peaking in the room. "Is that lip gloss? And your hair is done, you look amazing baby~!"

"You look cute, yeah. Jeez, Angie, you look great! If that guy doesn't see that, then he's an idiot who needs his eyes tested," shrugged Ember as he pushed himself down from the desk he'd been perched on, smiling affectionately at his little sister. He would have ruffled her hair as he always did, but she'd spent so long styling it that even he wasn't so cruel as to ruin it.

"You'd better be off, huh? Be back before dinner, you know how Papa gets if we're late."

"I know, I know. I'll be back before dinner." Smiled the girl. Leaning in, she pecked Ember's cheek, and Cassy's as well, before hurrying off. With each step she took, she got excited. She wondered if he thought she would look great. She wondered if he was excited to see her. She wondered if he would have fun being with her today. As the thoughts ran through her head, a small smile appeared on her full lips, hurrying through a portal.

In no time she was at his door, knocking excitedly. Looking down at her outfit, she fixed her shirt a bit and rubbed her lips together hoping her lipgloss looked good. Tucking her fluffy blonde hair behind her pierced ear, she waited with a smile for him to open the door.

In contrast to his friend, though, Wren was a complete wreck. Granted, even when he was a mess, he was still handsome - his hair was ruffled, his shirt creased, his eyes bagged and raw, but he still looked great, especially when he tried his best to smile as he opened the door and beckoned her inside.

The reason behind his uncomfortable, stressed appearance was simple: he didn't want to kill Angelica. He'd gotten to really really like her over the months he'd spent around her, so much so that ripping her heart out didn't seem as easy a task as he initially thought it would be.

Yes, she was a demon, and yes, he was sent to kill her-- but he didn't have it in him. He wasn't a seasoned pro at this sort of stuff, and he was incapable of forcing his emotions down. Hence why he was physically such a wreck.

"I... I really like you, Angie," he began, fiddling with his large hands with an awkward grimace as he sunk to the couch in the living room, clearly distressed. "I... I just... I'm not a-a good person and that sucks because I really do like you, I-I'm not lying about that, but-- oh god, I... I'll get killed if I-I don't do what they-- but I like you, I can't do that! I-- this isn't make sense to you, huh? Just... Just know I like you, that I'm not lying about that. I... I'm not... I'm a dragon, okay? And... And I got sent here to... to do bad stuff, but I can't 'cos I like you. So I'm... I'm not hurting you. I've decided. I can't."

Angelica honestly didn't know what to think. Her heart was thumping in her chest like crazy when he admitted that he liked her, but at the same time...She didn't understand what he meant by he was sent here to do bad things to her. Who could have possibly sent him? And why her? Taking his hands in her own, with flushed deep cheeks, she looked at him, trying to understand what was going on. "...Who sent you? It's...It's okay I'm not angry with you, I...I like you too." She whispered with a bright red face. She couldn't believe she just said that, but it was okay right? He admitted his feelings first, so he wouldn't just laugh in her face.

He wanted to explain -and he was going to do that- but first he wanted to at least kiss her. He hadn't actually had a kiss before. In his kingdom, marrying at his age really wasn't a rare thing. It was the norm. He had been in discussions to marry a girl his age, and he'd spent an embarrassing amount of months researching how to kiss so he didn't embarrass himself if he did marry the girl. Fortunately, that research was at least put to good use now, as he leaned in to press his lips against hers, his arms slowly moving around her before guilt got in the way and forced him to break it off.

"...Mark. And Star. I... they're my King and my Queen, and I couldn't say no or they'd j-just kill me and I want to be General so I... I said I'd come and... and make you love me. It wasn't easy, you were so mean to me at the start and Star-- the Queen just threatened me, so I tried harder, but then I-I... I actually started to like you, which is kinda why I... I've just sentenced myself to death telling you all this. Mark and Star w-will kill me if I... don't bring them your heart, which is... I'm not doing that, I-I promise. This isn't some sort of trick to weaken you-- I... I like you a lot and I... I'm not hurting you, I-I promise."

For a few seconds, her life was perfect. She had just experienced her first kiss. It...It was amazing. It was better than what she ever imagined. And then he pulled away and spoke. Her perfect moment shattered. Mark? Her...Her own brother? No...No it wasn't possible. Sure he left home but...But she and Mark were always close. He knew what it was like...No fitting in at school. He told her how to avoid bullies, he used to play her games with her.

Feeling tears sting her eyes, she looked down at her lap, her bottom lip trembling. She's never experienced a heartbreak...But now she did, and the one who broke it was her own brother. He...He was willing to kill her without a second thought. Her big brother...The one who taught her how to ride a bike...The one who promised to always look out for her and be there...The one who used to come to her room at night and check under her bed for monsters...The one who would sleep in bed with her when she was afraid to sleep alone. Mark...Mark was willing to kill her.

Taking a shaky breath, she wiped her eyes. She didn't know he...He hated them so much. She didn't understand why. She just wanted him home. She didn't care who he dated at this point, she just wanted him home...But to hear he sent this boy here to trick and murder her? It...It hurt. Taking Wren's hand tightly, she looked at him with wet eyes as tears flowed down her face. "...Come with me?...I...I should tell my grandparents...They can protect you...From Mark and Star."

Watching her whole world break apart like that was... horrible. Awful, really-- but he knew he was doing the right thing telling her. Any other dragon would have ripped her heart out already with a smirk and returned to the kingdom to celebration and triumph from the royal couple-- but Wren couldn't. He was possibly the worst one they could have asked because he had emotions and he was a good guy; one of the nice ones. He would try to do what they told him, but he let his emotions rule and it left him in this position: with Angelica's trust, but knowing he could never go home; that he'd let down his whole species.

"...I just... I feel bad and I... they'll find me somehow. You don't... understand. Star... she wasn't too fond of this war. She wanted to visit her family and warn them. Not a lot of my kind like her, I'm sure she'd rather... return to Hell," he began as he pulled her to the couch, moving up close to her again. "Mark is though. He's... the King... and he's eager to get this war started and take Hell for himself and move the dragons in because it's... it was our home once. He'll be furious with me for failing and he'll find me, however long i-it takes and I... I'm not sure even your grandparents could... help me."

"I'm sure they could. Or my Daddy. He's...He's really tough, he used to be the best assassin in Hell." Seven was great at his job, but he had to quit because Oscar didn't like it. He didn't like his husband killing people. And of course, when Seven killed Sebastian in front of Oscar, that obviously made Oscar not want to ever have Seven killing again. Leaning on his shoulders, she wiped the tears from her eyes sniffling a bit.

"...Why would...Mark do this? We...We never argued once. We were close, he...He was the best big brother anyone could ask for...he was always there for us. So...What did this? Why would he try to kill us." She whimpered, burying her face into his chest as she cried softly, unable to hold back.

No matter how much she cried, this was the right thing to do.It was either tell her the truth, or let her remain obliviousness and end up getting killed. It wasn't easy to learn the truth, but it wasn't easy for Wren to admit to it either. He wa risking his life for a girl he'd only begun to get friendly with for a month or two-- but he had no real friends. Angelica was it. He felt so strongly about their friendship (and possible relationship) that he was willing to do all this for her, and he was grateful that she was willing to bring him somewhere to safety.

Which is what happened. He was granted asylum in Hell, with Angelica needing to beg her family. Not many people trusted Wren, for obvious reasons, and nobody wanted to believe his stories about Mark-- but they did in the end. Marco especially took it hard. Mark was named after him. He was his grandson, the one he had planned to take under his wing and train him up personally. It hurt him just to know Mark had left home, but to learn all this? It tore him apart-- but he had no other choice but to take action. Either he sat back and allowed an attack, or he took action first.

Now, Mark and the others in that kingdom had no idea Wren had changed allegiances, so Marco knew he had the element of surprise. And surprise them he did-- specifically Star, anyway.

Mark and Star, despite having a kingdom to rule, often went away for a day around the world, to have a little fun and steal a few pieces of jewellery. It was just what they did, but it exposed them. Marco couldn't find the dragon kingdom, nor could he track anyone there-- but he could track them if they went outside it, which is what he did when the couple ventured to Italy for the night. It had become their favourite location, and it was almost predictable that he find them there.

Though, he just found Star. He entered the apartment easily, sat himself on the bed as he waited for whoever was in the shower to come out, and when Star exited, he casually shoved her to the wall with his forearm against her throat and the blade of his knife against her stomach.

"Morning, Star-- or is it evening? I can never get used to Earth and the timezones and all of that. Confuses me," drawled Marco, that crazy glint in his one eye shining, even in the dimness of the room. He was still a little unhinged, still downright crazy when he wanted to be, and it had been a while since he got to do something this fun. Well, it was fun when he was threatening Star. It wouldn't be so great when he found Mark.

"Want to tell me where my grandson is, or do I have to beat it out of you? I don't want to kill 'ya. I really don't. I'm a good guy, really. Just... impatient. I'll let you live. I hear you care about your family in Hell-- they're fine, by the way. Very disappointed and worried, but otherwise okay. I'm sure they miss you, sweetheart, so tell me where my grandson is and we'll be a-okay."

This is why she didn't want to go against Marco. While he said if she told him everything he wouldn't kill her she didn't believe him. She's heard stories about him. About how crazy he was, and he killed people for the fun of it. While she used to admire that, now she was just afraid. Staring at him with wet eyes, she trembled shaking her head lightly.

"M-Mark...Mark is out right now." She whispered, knowing Marco had to have known everything. The crazy look in his eyes meant he knew everything. "....Y-You're Majesty I...I didn't want to go a-against you! I...I thought it was a stu-stupid idea, please have mercy." She begged.
