I think that's it. I want to give it another once over later (proofread, edit, make it pretty, etc) so I'll call it WIP, but it's basically done. PS I know those three things are missing. They got left out in my copy paste and I'm on my phone now
Miss Wilborough,
I hope this owl finds you well. This is Luke Winters. I'm sure you recall my application from last year and the resulting conversation. I followed your generous advice and continued my job at the apothecary. My time has really expanded my knowledge of everyday wizard culture as well as the practical uses of what I learned in my Potions class. However, as I'm not interested in running an apothecary of my own, there's not much else I can learn here. As such, I'd like to reapply to join up with the Helpers as a Potioneer.
Name: Luke Winters
Gender: Male
Age: 24
Regular or Newcomer?: Regular, 4 years
Specialty: Potion Brewer
Appearance: I'm the big blonde guy, can't really miss me. I stand at 6'3", weighing 226 pounds. I am pale of skin and have blonde hair I keep short and groomed. My default expression is definitely not smiling so I look even more serious than I actually am most of the time.
Personality:
Naturally, the first first thing that I should mention is my confidence. My friends might jokingly say that "Confidence" is an understatement, but I stand by it. I know what I can do and what I can't do, and there's no point in playing it down. I don't brag. I'm just upfront about my skill. I'm an active person and being cooped up too long often leaves me restless. Exercise is a regular part of my daily routine. Sometimes when I need to monitor a brewing potion for an extended period of time, I do calisthenics to keep from getting restless.
Despite my quieter demeanor, I am actually fond of conversation and socializing. I'm not the one to typically start a group conversation but I can definitely continue it. I just have to be in the right mood for it. Like a game of football or a good workout, socializing is a lot of fun but can also be exhausting. I'm better one-on-one. Likewise, I'm usually pretty serious. I mean, I like joking around every now and then, but it gets irritating when someone can't take anything seriously. By nature, I'm an organized person. Part of my success as a student was my careful and meticulous notes. I like having a place for everything and everything in its place. I like to know what's going on and what to expect, when reasonable of course. I don't like surprises.
Biography:
Well to begin, I'm Muggleborn. My parents are Muggles of average means. We haven't really wanted for anything, my dad earning the salary of an engineer. We haven't really lived in excess though. I have two sisters, one is younger and one is older. In my younger years, I didn't stand out much. I was a rather independent middle child, and despite my schoolwork and the occasional strange happening, my sisters drew most of the attention.
OF course that all changed on my 11th birthday with my letter. My family didn't quite know how to react at the time, but over the years they've gotten used to it and accept it as any other part of me. Once at Hogwarts I was sorted into Ravenclaw, where I quickly found myself at home. Like in Muggle school I excelled at my academic work. My organized approach to learning made learning all the theory very straightforward for me, and made practicals less difficult. I discovered I had a knack for potions in particular, and quickly fell in love with the subject.
In my time at Hogwarts I was a model student, but I still struggled with the practical aspects of a few classes such as Transfiguration. I wasn't the most popular, but I had a small circle of friends whose company I enjoyed. I discovered Quidditch, which I longed desperately to play. When I started growing into my size in fourth year I believed I'd make an excellent Beater or Keeper. Unfortunately there was no hope of me making the Ravenclaw team.
I passed all my OWLs, moving onto to NEWTs in Potions, Herbology, Care of Magical Creatures, History of Magic, Astronomy, and Defense Against the Dark Arts. As you know, I wanted to do something useful with my abilities which is why I reached out to you. Though I did consider finding a teaching position abroad. Since then I've lived on Diagon Alley working at the apothecary. In my time there I got a better feel for the everyday lives and culture of witches and wizards.
So now I'm applying to help your Helpers. I do hope you'll have me.
Skills:
I was top of my class in
Potions and had the top NEWT score. I have two years of experience at an apothecary. I can brew high quality textbook potions, and my modifications rarely falter. I have an
organized approach to life. This means I can have my stock of potions for most circumstances ready to go at a moment's notice. I trust I will also be useful for day to day operations, keeping notes, and analyzing completed missions. My
larger size and fitness mean I'm physically strong and can be of pretty good use in a physical altercations should it come down to it. I'm also a strong swimmer. Being Muggleborn, I'm more than
familiar with Muggle culture and technology.
Weaknesses:
My organized approach to life means I also have
little experience with improvising and thinking on the fly. I don't like surprises and I don't like having to deviate from a plan. I mentioned my failure to join the Quidditch team at Hogwarts, and that is because I'm
terrible on a broom. My
Transfiguration work is messy and I prefer not to attempt it. I enjoy teaching and helping, but I have
low patience for unorganized people or those that can't be serious.
Equipment:
While a carry a stock of potions ingredients, some measuring and cutting tools, and a small cauldron, I put more importance on carrying vials of useful potions. I carry a small knife as well as my wand. I have a few potions books and my two notebooks: One for my potions work and the other for my journal. I like to have a Muggle change of clothes with me, just in case. For the sake of having something to do I also like to have a football with me.
Other:
Even though I get up on time, I am a heavy sleeper. My girlfriend also has requested I ask about your policies on overnight guests...
