Murder XIX: Trouble in Paradise

Mid-Round Update
"Shotgun Lovers"

"Unh...I can't take it anymore!" I-No brandished her guitar, stepping out onto the beach. "All this dissonance inside me…I may burst before that melon does. I need consonance, stat!" Holding her guitar like a baseball bat, the witch swung at each of the remaining Cataquacks, knocking them all into the ocean. She cocked her hip, guitar on her shoulder as she grinned.

"Ahhh…much better. Not getting to see those big balls burst…I needed some sort of release."

Either way, the melon would be safe to roll to the blender. "Fantastic!" The Pianta in charge started dancing with joy. "That's a first-place melon if I've ever seen one! Here you go!"

Those who'd worked on rolling the melon were greeted with a familiar face-a Shine Sprite, who rewarded them all with a faint glow before flying away. As for the melon, it would wind up in the blender, filling up a tank with juice. "Watermelon smoothies for everyone!"

Finally, the beach was all cleaned up. A Pianta arrived, overjoyed.

"Oh, thank you so much!" He said. "If any of you ever want a stay at my lovely resort hotel, you're welcome in! Five-star food and lodgings, and a casino to boot!"
He would produce a Shine Sprite, giving everyone (sans Talon) a faint glow. "Now, you all better head off-I hear you're all needed at Gelato Beach!"

He waved goodbye, and everyone boarded.

"I better not be the only one who found that weird," Mary said. "First of all, did he not notice the dead body? And if you're all criminals, then why is he trying to get you all to stay at his hotel?! And, most important-what even WAS that thing?! Some sort of mascot?"

Mary's questions aside, those at Sirena Beach would be taken by boat to Gelato Beach, just as night fell over the island. I-No would look at the group from the boat and smirk. "Let me guess...that clean up job took way more than you expected."

"No thanks to him." Mary would toss her head in Talon's direction. "And that old man who-oh. He didn't come with us, did he?" Sure enough, Leeds had stayed behind on Sirena Beach.

"Maybe he'll be back soon?" Yumeko was back to her usual self again. "He seems to know more about what's going on than most people here."

"And he can't be bothered to share anything with us? Clearly he's against us as much as everyone else is. Ugh, this is the worst ever. Why was I even roped into this, anyway?! What did I even do to get stuck here?"

"I don't know. Maybe you should try complaining some more? It sure helps out a lot."

"Hey! You're the reason I'm in this mess anyway...I think! I was just fine being dead! Even if I can't remember what it was like, it had to be better than what's now!"

"You wanna go back to being dead?" The sound of a gun being cocked right behind Mary punctuated the question. Mary tensed up, blood draining from her face. Talon would recognize the person behind Mary from the Shine Gate.

"If you wanna die…I can arrange it for you."

"Oh. It's you." Yumeko looked at the girl with what could only be described as pure hatred. She must have gotten her memories of this new person, and whatever they were…they must not have been good.

On the contrary, the girl looked overjoyed to see her.

"Yumeko!! You're here! I was hoping for this!!!" She was practically a giggling schoolgirl now. The gun left Mary's back, and the blonde made sure to put distance between them. "To play this game…ahaha! I can't wait!"

"What game?"

"Ah ah ah! You gotta savor this! After all, I gotta deal with these other punks too." She turned to face everyone.

"The name's Midari Ikishima. I'm an official member of the Delfino Beautification Committee. And I got my own cleanup to do." She spun her pistol on her index finger, sneering at them all.

"Let's make this quick-Yumeko's getting impatient. Vote for the three immune, and pay me your coins and tickets. Make me wait too long, and…hahaha! Well…you better not!"

Yato remained quiet during Jack's reveal. It was surprising, and a bit upsetting, but he didn't bother commenting on it. Instead he stuck close to Hiyori, for comfort and as a reminder that he was there for her in case she clammed up or needed to shed any tears.

He took a moment to think of who to vote.

"Hiyori, Yusuke, and Ernesti have my vote." he said, giving Midari an unimpressed look.

Having met a lot of nice people since he last voted, Yusuke found himself uncertain as to who he should vote for this time. After thinking it over for a while, however, he decided on a few individuals. "My selection shall be Yato-sama, his lover--Hiyori-san, and Alesha-san," he said after a while, sighing afterwards. He felt bad that he didn't have the option to protect more people, such as Shantae, Ernesti, Yamashiro, and Rita--all nice people who had even been kind enough to vote for him, but there wasn't much that could be done when he could only vote for three individuals. He would just have to pray that they stayed safe in the next game.

"You plan to end this all here?" Suddenly, Yumeko seemed to change, almost...hopeful. The fact that six people would be dying didn't seem to bother her as much.

"Yep! Shoulda trusted me all along!" Midari looked over the group. "Like I said...this'll be quick. Let me see...Yusuke, Shantae, and Maria are all safe, plus that Talon guy who played Russian Roulette with me. The rest of you...you better say your prayers! Ahahahaha!"

Paradise Game 3: Quick Draw

How to Play: In a randomizer, names will be chosen. The three names chosen will be killed. It's that simple!

Probability: Everyone's name is in twice to start. Those who paid a blue coin only have their name once, unless they were penalized earlier. Those who failed to perform and/or vote have their names in there additional times, the maximum being four.

Tips to Win: Cross your fingers and hope it ain't you!

"S-Six are dying this time?" Yusuke stammered, one eye widening while the other would shut after he winced at this thought. He was grateful to have immunity, but still sad to know that he would be losing three of his comrades. His stomach churned at the thought. He turned to Alesha first, placing a hand on her shoulder. He tried to seem nonchalant about the whole thing, but he really was worried. "You'll make it; I know you will," he said, trying to convince himself of this. He glanced to Yato afterwords. He was grateful to have immunity, but still sad to know that he would be losing three of his comrades. His stomach churned at the thought. He turned to Alesha first, placing a hand on her shoulder. He tried to seem nonchalant about the whole thing, but he really was worried. "You'll make it; I know you will," he said, trying to convince himself of this. He glanced to Yato afterwords. "As will you. There's no way a god can die... right?" he questioned, sounding uncertain, his voice small at the end of his sentence.

"Yes, and we're usually reborn I guess you can say, but under normal circumstances some ways a god can die is from being forgotten, or being blighted. Blight is usually caused by our Shinki sinning and giving into some form of temptation. In this instance, this definitely isn't any normal circumstances." Yato replied, his voice low for Yusuke and anyone close enough to hear.

"Yusuke-kun, do me a favor and keep an eye on Hiyori if I die and she lives this game." Yato added, not having much of a good feeling about this game. Or the whole situation in general.

Alesha wouldn't sugarcoat the truth; any of them could die at this time, for some crazed woman's sick thrill. As long as their names were in the hat, they could not hope that they were immune to death, and the khan would not allow delusions of such hope to fester. It was an unfair system, one that had no basis in justice, and they could only face death with courage if called.​

"Dammit," the boy murmured softly to himself. Alesha was right to say such things; it was pointless to cling onto false hope. "Why must it be like this?" he questioned. "It as if we are cattle waiting for the inevitable slaughter. We are practically prisoners who can do nothing but wait until a possible window of escape becomes available to us."

That is, if they ever could find a way to escape this situation.

"This is not fair at all..."

He glanced to Yato afterwards, biting on one of his thumbnails after hearing the god's request. He wanted to say the same thing he had to Alesha, that he wouldn't die, but after thinking this over, he realized it would be foolish to make such promises. Instead, he nodded weakly. "I... promise... if something happens to you I will protect her with my life," he stated, side-glancing to Hiyori. "You have my word."

"Hey, c'mon, Yumeko, be nice...I'm playing the game you wanted!" Midari pouted, collecting the coins and tickets. "I'm drawing names from a hat...six in all! Then everyone is free to go!"

"You plan to end this all here?" Suddenly, Yumeko seemed to change, almost...hopeful. The fact that six people would be dying didn't seem to bother her as much.

"Yep! Shoulda trusted me all along!" Midari looked over the group. "Like I said...this'll be quick. Let me see...Yusuke, Shantae, and Maria are all safe, plus that Talon guy who played Russian Roulette with me. The rest of you...you better say your prayers! Ahahahaha!"

This had just went from a 5 to a 50. On a scale of 10. Gon didn't do math well.

It was one thing when Starlow had unceremoniously died right before their eyes, and when Mary died (and was brought back to life by whatever mysterious power ruled Isle Delfino), but six people?! Counting Mary, that's like, at least...

Gon counted using his fingers.

That was at least twice as much! Probably more!

Crossing his arms and shaking his head, the boy once again lamented over the lack of his powers. Whoever brought them here, they really had to be someone powerful in one way or another, and even then, it wasn't like the boy was capable of outsmarting or outmaneuvering this invisible enemy, not without the resourcefulness of his dear friend Killua. But in the meantime, there wasn't much he could do about it, so if that was the case...

"Hina, Doctor..." He said to the two people he probably most considered as friends that he'd met here, before giving them a nod, "Good luck."

And to everyone else... Well. Decent luck to them then.

He wished he had more to say, considering the possibility that any one of them could be the unlucky number, but the boy didn't feel inclined to think much deeper on the prospect of the deaths of those close to him. All he could do now, the same as anyone else here, was wait and see.

"Yeah there's a kitchen! How else would you make Mac and cheese?" Jr asked with his arms crossed, having overheard Starlow's and Krieger's whispering.

"Come on so the boring nerd here can get back to his dumb sciencey stuff!" Bowser Jr said as he walked out of the lab without Starlow and led her into the kitchen.

The kitchen was nicer than you would have expected, with all the essentials there and a bit more. There was of course a fridge, drawers, cabinets, and a sink which housed the average stuff such as utensils, snacks, and other foods.

The young Koopa would hop up on a nearby barstool, crossing his arms and kicking his legs back and forth against the bar in front of him.

"Hurry up and make my mac and cheese! My tummy's been rumbling for like twenty minutes." Jr said. Starlow would find two boxes of mac and cheese in the upper right cabinet.One was regular and one was the dinosaur kind.
