Murder Game VII: The Ultimate Game

Master Aqua

The master stood near the center of the mess, her mind puzzling over everything she could think of. She thought about the history of the keyblade graveyard, those who had lived there, those who had died there, and those who had battled there in the past. The more she thought, the more her head hurt. She honestly couldn't think of who exactly the catalyst could be this time. Their group had destroyed the only evil force who had revealed himself to them for an entire week of being stuck in the location. If it had taken them a week to simply find a false lead, how much longer would it take them to find the one they truly needed to end?

Desperate and grasping for straws, Aqua began to pace as she thought, her blue eyes scanning some of the blood trails along the ground. She tried not to pay any attention to the smell of the burned tents and charred flesh in the air. The smells made Aqua nauseous and sad, but she couldn't focus on them right now. MORE people were only going to end up dying if they didn't find and destroy the catalyst soon so they could move on.

"Vanitas attacked the Fissure before he was... finished off," she explained to Joshua running a hand through her blue hair after a moment. "Also, turns out he wasn't the catalyst either, so it looks like we're back to square one..."

Aqua scowled and touched the side of her face. If anyone could figure this out, she knew she could. Aqua knew this world. There had to have been a hint or some kind of other clue she had missed.

"Think of the chaos as a parting gift. Farewell. At least this time you had the nerve to actually put a stop to me..." Aqua mumbled, repeating Vanitas' final words. "Ugh, what does that even mean? When I fought him the first time, I did put a stop to him."

Aqua continued to think, repeating the words carefully in her head...

"I hate to ask you this after earlier, but can I get some help?" Riley's hands were covered in blood, and his hands were full of various medical supplies. "I can't treat everyone. I need some help, and you have the healing magic."

Raynor would arrive at the scene, filled with anger and excitement. He was hoping to catch Vanitas and put some rounds in his head for what he did. But instead, all Jim got was devastation.

Raynor simply stared as he saw charred corpses, screaming people, and chaos. It was like Mar Sara all over again, except this time Raynor was too late to evacuate any civilians. He looked down at the ground and clenched his fist, making his anger evident as the power armor metal groaned in protest to the pressure. Why? Why is it wherever he goes, death follows? Even in a completely different universe, he still has to bring a wave of bad luck to innocent people who don't even know him.

Raynor looked up at the words of Aqua and walked over to her "So why didn't you help, huh? If you said you beat him the first time, what was stoppin' you from coming this time and preventing" He pointed at a charred moogle corpse for emphasis "THIS from happenin' huh?" Raynors voice was flooded with anger; he didn't even know the moogles and he was already enraged they had to die. "While we were out there, trying to stop him, what were you doing?"

Jims armor visor was open. He didn't care who Aqua was, even if she had some authority in this mission; he wanted answers.

Joshua had brushed the top of his head, angrily? Sadly? Defeated? It wasn't known, but Joshua let out another curse as he yelled it into the air, away from Aqua "Fuck!" At the moment, he didn't pray to god for his sin, but he felt at a loss of words as he trailed back and forth. "It apparently sounds like you did not. Because we fought out there in the dunes, where you were not present." He sighed, extending his hands in an apologetic fashion. "Sorry sorry, I... It's frustrating. Can you tell me what relationship you had with that man?"

The feeling of disgust and nausea only deepened in the keyblade master when Raynor and Joshua spoke to her, but instead of being disgusted with the situation, she was suddenly disgusted in herself. "I-I was... um..." Aqua wiped her forehead, feeling beads of sweat starting to form. "I don't know. I was slacking. I was tired and thought I'd... take a break for a few minutes," she admitted to Raynor, swallowing a lump in her throat. "I've failed you all. I'm... sorry. I should've gone with."

Aqua shook her head, feeling as if it were spinning with guilt, she glanced to Joshua--a firm frown on her lips. "I'm to blame for this. Vanitas was... a dark force created from my friend Ventus. That was the only reason I knew him. He was working under a dark master. But, apparently in the version of this world he grew stronger than the master and... became much more evil than he did in my world."

The master hung her head, barely looking up at Riley. "I-I... yeah... I'll help heal the injured. It's the least I could do..."

Riley looked up from the wounded person he was tending to. "Yes. I can. Can you bring her over here? Or shall I go over there?" Riley grabbed some water, and a Stimpak.

Riley turned around to Aqua. "No, don't burden yourself. Figure out this situation. I can handle it temporarily. Are you hurt at all? Just want to ask." He turned back to Ruby.

 

[Crimson Spartan]

Story Update

A very battle-worn and injured Vanitas made his way out of the Crossroads, attempting to flee for his life while he left the others to fight the monsters behind him. His form, disguised as a shadow moving along the dirt of the badlands, sneaked across the area and headed for the Fissure where some of the survivors were staying. Unbeknownst to them, the shadowy form moved to the center of the camp before rising up at its center, returning to his ordinary form.

In his normal form, Vanitas was badly injured. Long gashes and cuts covered his body, an arrow stuck out of his right arm, and a few bullet holes could be seen in his body. It was easy to tell that he would be done for should he be attacked again.

"I guess I finally met some worthy opponents," he muttered to himself, grunting as he pulled the arrow out of his arm. "But that doesn't mean I'll let them get away completely free." With a shaky arm, Vanitas lifted his dark blade, pointing it toward the skies. A hole then opened up in one of the dust clouds from above, creating room for black bolts of lighting to shoot from the skies.

The first bolt struck the second tent, setting it ablaze. Those inside it came scrambling out, some of the people on fire as they ran, screaming at the top of their lungs. Another bolt of lightning shot down, hitting the first tent. The supplies the moogles had been selling blew all over the place, along with a few charred bodies of the poor creatures who were unlucky enough to be caught in the blast. Those who survived, struggled and squirmed on the ground. Lastly, a bolt hit the third and fourth tents, causing louder bouts of screaming through the campsite.

Aqua's eyes shot open from where she rested. She let go of Claire's hand, standing up immediately. "No!" she cried, seeing the ruined campsite around them with Vanitas at its heart. Aqua summoned her keyblade quickly and rushed toward Vanitas, stabbing him directly through the the back; in his weakened state he was unable to stop her. Vanitas fell to the ground afterwards, chuckling at the destruction he had caused in his last moments.

Aqua glared at him, dropping her keyblade before moving to the ground to grab Vanitas around the throat.

"Wh-Why? Haven't you hurt enough people?!"

This is exactly why I should've helped the others fight him. I needed to make sure he was stopped!

Gasping, the dark apprentice mumbled, "Think of the chaos as a parting gift. Farewell. At least this time you had the nerve to actually put a stop to me..."

In a black mist, Vanitas' body then faded from sight, destroyed.

Aqua stood up, frowning at the blood on her hands as she took out her Coalition communicator.

"Ngh, well at least we've destroyed the catalyst. It won't be long now until we move--"

The communicator beeped. Aqua's eyes widened. "That can't be! It's still beeping? That means... the catalyst still isn't destroyed?!" The master furrowed her brows, puzzling over their situation. Wasn't Vanitas supposed to be the catalyst? If he wasn't then who was?

"Ugh, well, I'll think this over," she told the others. "For now, all of you had better vote for the traitor and perhaps tend to some of the wounded in this camp."

If there was one thing thing that was apparent from viewing the wreckage of the tent, it was how brutal war could be...

Having chased Vanitas Erron was left helpless as he destroyed the tents before supposedly dying. Erron merely watched as everyone did what they did not even bothering in aiding the wounded. He was only here for the money after all what did he care if people died along the way. Still there was the fact of voting but Erron didn't know who to vote for at first deciding to wait until more voted before he would make his choice. Silently the bounty hunter merely watched walking away from any wounded or dead near him. He checked his revolvers and made a note of keeping an eye out for more caltrops since he used some in the Vanitas fight.

She didn't care he was bigger or stronger than here, not right now. "We've been fighting constantly this past week, just trying to survive. Aqua has been on her feet, leading everyone. None of you have any right to say such things! You're both acting so self-important-- like your decisions mean everything!" Irrational or not, Claire felt a bit like they were attacking her as well; she had been the one to encourage Aqua to sit out the fight, after all.

Claire turned around on Aqua, shaking her head. "Don't apologize! You didn't fail anyone! Don't ever think that." Self-doubt would destroy them. The Arch Demon operated on that. He fed on doubt and despair. "Turning on each other is what our enemies want. Don't give them that satisfaction."

Joshua sighed heavily, rubbing his temples as he shook his head "So what? We're stuck here because the Diverent Catalyst isn't here!?"

Sakuya ran over, hearing him call for her. "Hi, Riley. Do you need any of the supplies I was holding onto?" she asked. She was tempted to ask about his opinion on the traitor but decided she'd wait for now.

"Yes, yes please. I'm running out of the supplies I had. We need to conserve some of the supplies, though. Save that box. I think I can do this with my own supplies and still have enough left over for later, but I will call you if I need that box." Riley said. "Do you have any alcohol? For sterilization."

Claire practically scoffed. "Riley, maybe I wasn't talking to you." She sighed, crossing her arms.​

"Just trying to help." Riley mumbled.

 

[Midnight Maiden]

"You suck... sorry I missed my childhood botox shots. I'm eighteen."

Max mumbled in response to the babyface remark, honestly sounding more hurt than pissed off or embarrassed now. That was just mean. People were horrible enough to her about her looks and hipsterness back home, she didn't want to be judged here too. She rubbed her shoulder uncomfortably, features downcast and sighing heavily out through her teeth. This was really starting to eat away at her nerves, that familiar disquieting sensation of anxiety flaring up in the pit of her stomach. She just wanted this to be over.

"Whatever, fine. Sorry. I'll stop with the attitude. Can you please just pick somebody now?"

After a few moments and an exasperated roll of the eyes, Max joined in on the humming. :|

The blonde pouted right back. "Don't look so down, Princess. It's cute." This.. Didn't seem like empty flirting. Could this have been an actual compliment?! That would be insane. Rid never seemed to give anyone real compliments, with a few exceptions. Of course, obviously, the Duchannes girl was unaware of the thoughts she'd triggered for Max.. Not that she really gave a damn.

When Max told her to pick someone, Rid tilted her head, making her blonde and pink hair swish. "..Yeah, I can," she answered after a long pause, pacing starting back up as she seemed to examine Max and Bayonetta absently. Which was the better choice..? Both would have some sort of positive impact.. Hm.

Clearing her throat, Ridley halted, looking between Bayonetta, Joshua, and Max with a pleasant and sickly sweet smile plastered on her red lips. "Alright.. I think I've got my pick," she declared with a nod. "I choose..."

There was a long, suspenseful pause, likely to try to spark some dramatic affect.

"..Princess(Max)."

Woah... That was a massive turn of events.

Giving the slightly younger girl something of a half-sincere smile, Rid actually stepped closer.. And went to give her a playful nuggie. "I mean, I love kisses and all.. But I guess there's some sort of charm in the fact you aren't like most people. You didn't strive to please me to get what you want, and even sassed me. I like that."

"..Although.. Damn. Bayo over there can kiss."

Sophie looked to and fro from Riley to Claire, she noticed that Aqua was getting a bit of heat from two others for stepping in late... Though, Claire seemed to have it under control, she just hoped such things would get resolved quickly, she knew that if they went on for too long, it would start to throw them into disarray. Ruby in the meantime tilted her head a little "Well... Yeah... Those bats are really nasty..." Ruby said; it would become apparant that she was covered with lacerations, and bite marks, though thankfully, her combat skirt seemed to withstand the attack somewhat, so, it was only her arms, legs, hands, and, most notable her face and neck region that had sustained injuries.

"Aha, how curious. We still haven't found the Divergent Catalyst? Or a Traitor? How elusive those things must be... Quite a banal experience this is though. I'm guessing you all don't have notable clues to go off of?"

"Yes, yes please. I'm running out of the supplies I had. We need to conserve some of the supplies, though. Save that box. I think I can do this with my own supplies and still have enough left over for later, but I will call you if I need that box." Riley said. "Do you have any alcohol? For sterilization."

She looked through the supplies on hand, searching for alcohol. "Ah, here's some," she said, pulling it out and handing it to Riley. "I'll hold onto this box until requested, then," Sakuya added. "Can I be of assistance with anything?"

 

[Atomyk]

"This is awful... all this destruction... I can't stand these whackos obsessed with despair!" Junko ended her search for Nicki and sought out Riley. Clasping her hands together, she looked toward the ground. "I don't know anything... medical... I'm no Ultimate Nurse or anything, but I want to help, Riley."

Sophie looked to and fro from Riley to Claire, she noticed that Aqua was getting a bit of heat from two others for stepping in late... Though, Claire seemed to have it under control, she just hoped such things would get resolved quickly, she knew that if they went on for too long, it would start to throw them into disarray. Ruby in the meantime tilted her head a little "Well... Yeah... Those bats are really nasty..." Ruby said; it would become apparant that she was covered with lacerations, and bite marks, though thankfully, her combat skirt seemed to withstand the attack somewhat, so, it was only her arms, legs, hands, and, most notable her face and neck region that had sustained injuries.

"I know. I got attacked by a few of them." Riley showed the wound on his shoulder. "Just inject this, and the wounds as well as the pain should heal almost immediately. I may need to disinfect the wound. Cleanliness and sting disinfection? Or risk of infection, but no pain disinfection?"
