Wearing his Nightwatcher armor, Raphael drove on a motorcycle through one of the sewer tunnels, water splashing in his wake. Destination the Superhero Heart Run, the charity event that Master Splinter mentioned. Raph still can't believe he was suckered into this, but Splinter was firm on the matter, either he goes to the charity or clean debris in the sewers all day. The ninja turtle increased his speed further as he saw the light at the other side.
These rides were among Ralph's favorite things, this moment wasn't any different. Seconds later he burst from the tunnel, flying in midair till he landed at a small stream inside an empty industrial park in the morning. Donatello had checked this area through his system of surveillance cameras for him earlier.
Not a bad job ya geek. Raph thought appreciatively of Donnie as he continued onward. Behind his seat, a basket containing a set of clothes to donate like shirts, shoes, and pants. They weren't fancy or anything but Master Splinter had gone the extra mile in finding these items and entrusted his son Raph to deliver them. While he had mixed feelings about going out in broad light and in public Raphael wanted to please his father.
He drove through into a maze of back alleys that he knew like the back of his green hand. Then at last he reached Centeral Park, slowing down until parking at a sidewalk. Taking the basket, by the right arm, Raph saw through the visor he attached some attention already from passerbys.
"This is totally freaky."
He muttered quietly so that no one heard him, while garning various looks for, all around. Some people were obviously nervous, a few hateful looks, and some others just curious. His Nightwatcher persona not as wide known like Spider-man or Daredevil, he was still recognizable to those who watched the local evening news or just seen clips on YouTube, catching some of his activities. Feeling awkward he strolled through while many people gave him a wide berth.
In many ways he was grateful for some room to move but such attitude only reinforced his suspicions about them ever accepting those different from their definition of 'normal'. It irked Raph to no end that he and his family have to win their trust first and keep hiding for the time being like they're something to be ashamed of.
Just then a little kid of dark skin with a buzz cut hair stood in front of Raphael. The boy was around seven years old wore a purple shirt and dark jeans with white sneakers shoes. Raph looked at him puzzled that the kid wasn't moving away from fear, instead just smiled at him then asked.
"You're the Nightwatcher aren't ya?"
"Uh...yea. What about it?" Raph said in an awkard tone.
Still beaming the little fellow suddenly rushed over and much to Raph's surprise gave him a big hug. Honestly the disguised ninja didn't know what's going on or what to do.
"Ya saved my mom and me a week ago when robbers were holding up a gas station we went to. You were so cool, taking down all those bad guys like it wasn't noting."
Looking up the kid then added. "Thank you Nightwatcher."
Rendered speechless for a moment, Raphael struggle to find words to say.
"You're...you're welcome kid. What's your name?"
"Thomas Berkeley. But everyone calls me Tommy."
"Well Tommy I could use your help. I'm trying to find the spot to donate these clothes, would you know the way?"
Nodding vigorously Tommy grabbed Raph's freed hand with both arms, leading the way further into the park.
