Just one more person to put up a character sheet, then I'll add NPC crew-mates to fill any vacancies, and this can get going.

Once it's going, should we start shortly before John has acquired his new crew, allowing a bit of exploration in Doxa, or after, allowing players immediate free-range of the ship until it finds the next Dragon?

Welp. I vote for after.

Cuz you know: awkward getting to know you stage of posties... Boo likes to move past that, sooner the better :33

We can always do flashbacks for sake of fleshing out scenery/events?

Agreed, besides, can certainly flesh out character relations during the hunt for our first Dragon and the aftermath of such. And flashbacks can be used, or something I've seen done in some RP's in the past, folks draw up brief, pseudo IC lists of how each character's initial reaction or feeling towards each other is. Helped a fair bit during some RP's that they were an established crew for some time.

'Today has been a no-good, very-bad day.'
Corvyx 'Nekros' Zaynesworth
FJz1NIo.jpg
Age: 25
Hair:
Black
Eyes: Grey
Height: 6'3
Weight: 178 lbs
Personality: Amiable; Calm; Strong-Willed. Corvyx likes to think of himself as a 'normal' person, and does his best to portray that through is actions and his mannerisms. He likes to think of himself as a sociable individual, being open to conversing with just about anyone. Even if he is quite friendly, he's no pushover and not adverse to violence when he feels it's inevitable or unavoidable.
History: People are strange; even with the presence of dragons and other creatures roaming across the land, people still found a way to prioritize violence amongst themselves. Politics were strange, like that. Corvyx was born in a middle class family to a nurse and a soldier. His life was never really exciting, but at the ripe age of 16 he chose to follow in his father's footsteps and join the army. At the age of 21, he was dishonorably discharged, though the cause was never made public.

For four years he seemed to be some type of ghost, his only proof of existence being the trails of violence he left in his wake. With unknown motives, rumors began to spread about the former soldier, but they were just that - rumors. No matter how much 'mayhem' and 'acts of violence' he was either accused of or associated with, he was never charged for any crimes.

After disappearing for a year, Corvyx has resurfaced once more - his true mission unclear.

Skills: Expert Hand-To-Hand Combat; Weapon Specialist; Stealth; Acrobatic

Luggage: A change of clothes (Civilian Clothes and 2 of his combat outfits); Twin Daggers (one attached to his lower back, the other on his leg as if it were a gun); A wrist-mounted grappling hook.

Motivation: "Killed a dragon while in the army before, never hunted one though."

Other:

If there's anything I need to change, let me know.

Name: Klavdiya Pavelovich Nadezhkin

Age: 38

Appearance: Klavdiya is very tall, getting into the six foot range. She is very well built, bulky and able to 'hit like a truck' as one receiver of her punch has said. She has light brown hair that is shoulder length in the front while being longer in the back, and is very straight. She has light blue eyes-- even if 'eyes are the window to the soul', hers seem locked, unwilling to give any hint of anything deeper than a stiff poker face. Klavdiya has multiple scars, one going across their face; Starting at the far right corner of their forehead slashing across to the left edge of their cheek bone. Another scar is a patch slightly to the upper left of her chest. She has multiple scars on her legs and arms as well.

Klavdiya usually wears a well-fitting navy blue suit with a white undershirt and black tie. Otherwise, she will wear any other clothes that she needs to, usually those that suit the job and/or environment that she's in.

Personality: Klavdiya carries a stiff and cold persona with a firm, unwielding poker face. Much of what one might do to garner a reaction from her is fruitless, as she will at most give it a slight glance, or if needed, will 'subdue'. However, as good as she is at masking her own emotions, body language can speak louder than words.

Despite her rather large presence, she prefers to stay in the background, making little to no comments on most events that go on around her unless she feels the need to answer when spoken to. Otherwise, Klavdiya is very stiff in most social situations, and isn't very good at holding an engaging conversation. If going into a social situation, she prefers to be with someone who can do most of the talking for her. Klavdiya isn't one to see the subtleties of what's going on around her, but she does have 'the memory of an elephant's'. As such, she can piece things together given enough time.

As amoral as she is when it comes to many things (particularly gruesome violence and underground crime), Klavdiya does have a her own, personal moral code that she follows. Part of it involves her own sense of loyalty. While somewhat fueled by companionship she might feel with those she's working with, it's more motivated by maintaining her own lineage and pride in her family name... That being said, however, there is a chance that this can be challenged.

Is fairly good with numbers, and when bored, may do calculations-- seems rather unaware of her own ability regarding this.

History: There's a strong network of underground crime within the Doxan Empire. There are your typical thugs, littered among all the districts. But who /do/ you go to if you're a noble who wants... a favor, let's say? One that you would certainly be willing to pay a pretty penny for. If only because a noble wouldn't want to do the dirtier work that would certainly stain their gloves. And against another high-class member, no less.

The Nadezhkin family has stepped in to fill such a job market. They're a family who due to the various jobs and 'favors' they have done for many high-class individuals, have become somewhat like nobles in their own right. But, the family's true loyalty resided only with themselves. Anyone entering the family was very strictly chosen, one who would be right to carry on the family line and be able to isolate themselves. As such, unless you are doing business with them, they are very suspicious and cold to anyone outside of their circle, often referred to as 'foreigners' by the family.

Klavdiya's own life as a Nadezhkin was very authoritarian. Any love she might have felt for her fellow family members is very debatable. But there was one thing that was very certain: Loyalty. There is a saying among Nadezkhins: "A Nadezhkin may leave a Nadezhkin in the middle of winter to strengthen them, but only within a mile of the cabin." Perhaps this, in itself, was what Klavdiya learned was a warped sense of affection.

As for how Klavdiya ended up in a crew full of 'foreigners'... it is because as rich as nobles requests have made them, Nadezhkins know how fickle of a market this can be-- especially when one does not cover their tracks and the matter of blackmail is involved. But dragon hunting, /that/ seems like an interesting market. Certainly one that the Nadezhkins could latch onto as another avenue for profit and power... except, one problem arose: dragon hunting was not something familiar to the family line. Certainly, they could aquire a ship, a crew made of their own family... but the lack of skills could lead to massive casualties that could prove too large a risk should it leave a void in the family.

Hearing that there was a Dragon Hunting crew recruiting, they reluctantly came to what was a safer option: Send one of their own to join this crew. Should it prove to be a successful endeavor, they could report back as to what the experience was like, and they can go from there. Klavdiya, chosen for this task, is determined to serve her family the best she can... although, may not anticipate her loyalty being brought to question.

Skills: *Is very well built, and very trained as well. Only those that are skilled in combat as well would be able to match her. Also has good reflexes.
*Has a very good memory, and does not forget easily. Particularly faces. Is a good listener, even when it appears as if she isn't.
*Has knowledge of underground crime, especially that pertaining to crime groups. Due to her association with the Nadezhkins, also has connections to nobles as well.
*Knows how to hide her emotions well... although, this may also be a case of not knowing how to express them well.

Luggage: *Her suit and other clothes that would be more useful when hunting/more active
*Prefers her bare fists (or any melee weapons she can get her hands on) when it comes to fighting. Has a pair of brass knuckles and hand-wrappings.
*The Nadezhkin family has provided her with a highly trained bird that will deliver letters that Klavdiya writes to them, usually detailing her experiences on the ship and such.
*A knife with her family's crest engraved on the handle. Able to cut through very thick material.

Motivation: Wants to serve her family the best she can, with utmost loyalty. Maybe be subject to change as she gets to know the crew better.

Other:

Apologies for the wait in getting my form up! Tell me if anything needs to be changed.

Klavdiya and Corvyx are accepted.

Beginning construction on IC

This is the roleplay reviving me from a roleplay-coma.
Good job. Be proud of yourself.

Name:
Vincent Strauss

Age:
21

Appearance:
Vincent's appearance can, at first glance, be described as ultimately 'underwhelming.' He is a simple man, though showing many years of hard work in his defined muscles, that is, if he didn't always cover himself. He is quite short at 5' 4', and his often shaven face leaves a boring, even childish, non-threatening impression. Wood brown eyes and short cut hair leave nothing else interesting in their wake. He is not so unique that any would fawn over, yet not so plain nor ugly that one would push away.
He hides two scars under his shirt, one just under his ribcage, and one large slash across his back.

Personality:
Vincent is a young and brash man, one still full of liveliness but has much to learn. He keeps himself enthusiastic as much as he can, and tries to be as friendly as possible, even when he doesn't like someone; though, he usually tries to find something good in everyone. He can get emotional for a fighter due to past issues, but will quickly throw it into the back of his mind when the time calls for strength, as in his line of work.
He is not one of faith and certainly does not worship 'The One', but keeps his mouth shut about it.

He always carries a large metal shield with him, usually on his back, where he can find the excuse to.

History:
Born and raised in a Doxan city state, the Strausses had relatively few troubles in their life. That was, until Vincent's father had died in a work accident, and he had to leave home to work as his mother did the same. He managed to get by working with Hunters, and learned with eager speed how to fight.
He had met someone he quite liked one day, and attempted to court them. In this, however, he found he was betrayed after a one night stand with the other attempting to steal his possessions and sneak away. When Vincent awoke and tried to stop the thief, he was stabbed in the chest and the sliced across his back. He healed fine, but finds himself often attempting to cope with self-imposed inner loneliness.

Skills:
Great strength and endurance; Can hold really heavy things, and take a mean hit.
Slow, but firm-grounded fighting skills; Prefers to hold up his shield or arm up as opposed to moving out of the way.
Familiarity with multiple types of weapons, including, but not limited to swords, spears, and heavy firearms.
Adaptability; will learn quickly, and use whatever rickety tools he must to do the job.
Outward positivity; He can instill a fighting spirit in a team if he can manage, and will try to find something to like in everyone.

Luggage:
Change of clothes
A large, heavy, rectangular shield about 3/4 his size; always on his back if he's not holding it or sleeping.
Somewhat medium armor for his limbs and torso; as if his shield wasn't heavy enough.
A wrapped up spear, given to him from an old Hunter friend
A double-barrel shotgun; because he doesn't own a gatling gun
A journal in an unknown language. (He made it up.)

Motivation:
A young desire for adventure, something to do, and if nothing else, something to eat.

Other:
He often has the shield as if it were to prevent being stabbed in the back again; Though when the situation calls for it, he holds it in front of him quite easily, and makes it near impossible to hit anything behind the shield.

At this point are there any more roles that need to be filled? Dahrinn, if there are and you don't want to fill them with NPCs I'd be happy to make another character. If that's the case just let me know what gaps there are and I can get something up.

& I agree with Boo and Rax, I think it would be better to after forming the crew. Easy to include flashbacks, and at least a couple of weeks of "Hello, my name is.... And you?" if not!

edit: p.s. in regards to previous conversations/experiences that my character has with others, I'm more a fan of just whoever establishes it just goes for what they think is fitting; if the other thinks it doesn't work all it takes is a bit of editing. Feel it works better creatively, you know?

In all honesty, same with me regarding character relations-- feel free to assume whatever might be appropriate with my character. Also feel free to PM me if you want to discuss anything about character relationships as well!

I'm down for whatever; honestly. Corvyx has got around a lot, so it's possible he may have previous relations with some of the crew members, so if anyone wants to delve further into any possible connections, send me a PM :0

I had a scientist/alchemist type character I started to make for this. His role would be more like a merchant trader/seller of Philosopher's Stones for the Beowulf.

If this is still accepting players and you think that could work, I can have a CS up during this holiday weekend.

It's accepting until a short while after the IC is up.

Characters can still be added, but they will only be able to enter the IC once the Beowulf lands in a city, or otherwise finds them.

I think I'm going to add the head chef as an NPC.
He's going to be a foul mouthed, sixty year old former bare-knuckle boxer who joined the Beowulf at the lowest point in his life while John was early in his career. From then he has been on and off of the crew, depending on his mood whenever John lands in Doxa.

IC should be finished some-time tomorrow.

The first dragon is going to be the fire-breathing variety, scales mostly grey with red accents, making it's nest in a cave on the northern border of the Empire. I'm thinking up a fancy name, but if anyone else wants to name it, be my guest.

Hmm... The first thing I think of when I see the description is 'Ash'. So I looked up the word in other languages (Note that I'm not sure of how accurate they are-- more of name inspiration more than anything else):

Irish: fuinseog
Lithuanian: pelenai
Polish: Jesion
Uzbeck: Qorakuya
Chichewa: phulusa
Malagasy: Lavenona
Latin: Cinis

Just some of the more interesting variations I found.

Imma just place this *right here*
OPEN SIGNUPS - Aboard the Beowulf IC

I'll be working on sketching Alton and I've chosen the Irish name Fuinseog because it sounds particularly "Dragony"
