Maybe because she just met her. Maybe it had something to do with her behavior. Either way, Ai continued to go back and fourth between being fearful of Fuka and being dumbfounded by her actions to the point of wondering if anything cohesive was going on in that cranium of hers.

At the moment, her thoughts leaned towards the latter as the back of that same cranium was smacked by the blue haired one of the hero duo. Scolding Fuka for trying the whole thumb scheme she had tried to enact. No one took up the offer unfortunately, putting that effort to waste. Instead, Rinne stressed everyone to not let panic start taking over their cell over who the possible traitor could be.

Kazuko, on the other hand, stressed the lack of details over all. She had an idea as to what a 'betrayal' could entail. Something in regards to those involved with the scene in the mess hall. But, with that being the biggest potential reason, then what would the traitor gain here?

A betrayal could happen in many different ways, from many different angles of understanding.

But the pieces to even get an idea from what was known thus far where sorely missing.

Regardless, despite the skepticism, it seemed like even she was wanting to take some precaution. Suggesting the girls sleep in shifts. Kuu did say that the betrayal was due by midnight in this day. So then, what would happen until then?

If it was anything like yesterday, there would be dinner and finally sleep.

Something could definitely happen during dinner, maybe. But, on the other side, after dinner they would all be corralled into a cell with random people again. So if the traitor was going to act, they would have to do it now. Or, they would try to pull something during dinner.

After dinner was over, and everyone was put into cells again. There would be no way for Kuu's prediction to come true, at least for all of them.

Kuu's fortune told a lot while telling practically nothing to them at the same time. Nanashi's mind was trying to fill the blanks, but all of it was complete speculation on pretty much every aspect of the people around her. They were all just random girls, some of whom, happened to be witness to Ai getting bullied.

There was an outside element missing to the entire puzzle. Without it, they were all no better than anyone else on the ship with an anxiety of being stabbed while asleep.

Ultimately, Nanashi let her thoughts take a rest. Just in time to hear Ai getting scolded(?) for jumping right on Fuka being a suspect of betrayal.

"...sorry."

Ai apologized. Though it seemed like it was more towards the others as opposed to Fuka herself.

Ultimately, speculation wouldn't get them anywhere.

It would be another few hours until dinnertime, if things went like the did yesterday. That gave the students time to get out and eat, and for the chamber-pots to be changed out for the poor ship crew who was responsible for that. Nanashi ultimately decided that the most likely spot where something like a betrayal could happen would be during dinner.

Still, she wanted to sleep off the next few hours. Sitting in a cell was going to get very boring.

The girls could hear some echoes of a struggle going on down in the boy's deck. But that ultimately died down as well.

About ten minutes passed. With no one saying anything to each other.

Fifteen.

Eighteen.

Twenty.

No one could even tell what time it was inside. It was incredibly boring.
Ai was visibly starting to nod off.

Thought none of the girls could really count it, about seeven hours would pass with them sitting in that cell.
In such a situation, even as uncomfortable as it was, falling asleep was about as inevitable as Kuu's so-called fortune.

Ai sat herself by Nanashi, feeling the most comfortable by her.

"Hey Nanashi? Want to use each other to lean up against?"

In any other context, it was a dumb question.
But inside this cell room, another person was probably the most comfortable thing available. Nanashi simply nodded to agree.

"Thanks..."

It was a one sided deal though.
Ai was so light looking that Nanashi felt that she would just topple her over if she tried to lean back at her.

"Hey..."

....
...
..
.

"My dream... is to be a hero! This is a picture I drew of me as a hero, after I beat up the thing that makes my brother sick!"

"Yuuji is... It would've just been better if Yuuji hadn't been born."

"Forta, please hand Mother her wine..."

"Mom, I had to get a ride from a classmate. Where were you? Mom...?"

"Right Forta, while I'm talking to the man at the register, I want you to grab the bottle and sneak out while I keep him occupied."
"Yes. Dear. Once I give the signal jump out from the trash and stab them! Cut their throat so they can't yell for help!"
"Useless child! Don't you understand that if you can't do it right we won't be able to eat!? Moreover, because you were so useless...!"

"Hi Forta. I'm Me Name is Wilson. May I please talk to your Mother?"
"Go ahead! Take that brat with you and Fuck off!"

"Hi everyone. Meet our new friend! Come on, tell us about yourself. What do you want to be when you grow up?"

"Well, when I grow up, want to be..."

"O...ow! Cmon'! You're such a jerk Paul!"
"So you're the new girl? You said you want to be a hero right? Can you be a hero against THIS!?"

"Oh my... how could a little girl do this to a boy twice her size?"
"It's like he was attacked by some kind of monster.... Just horrible."

No one should've known about that.
After Nanashi ran from the orphanage, there should've not been anyone who knew about that.

Hearing that being uttered to her so knowingly by Kuu convinced Nanashi in what the Fortune Teller had said. The inevitable probability that someone was going to be betrayed. But instead of worrying about who would do it. She realized that how bad the betrayal would be was something more important to consider.

If the result of a 'betrayl' could be decided on her own terms. Then doing it might be enough to prevent the fated betrayal from happening. The person might get discouraged from carrying out whatever they had planned originally. But, would that be playing right into that Kuu's fortune?

Of course it would. But that didn't matter.

The outcome of a betrayl wouldn't change even if they didn't hear the fortune, Nanashi had already accepted what Kuuyari was capable of.

If the option to modify fate was there, as Kuu had said, then this was the one answer she could think of. She'd happily try it, repercussions be damned.Just like Kuni had said - she wasn't going to just stand by and do nothing.

"Hi Forta! How're ya doing?"
"So I heard you got into a bit of trouble, the other day."
"Would you like to talk about it, sweetie?"

"Could you please tell me why you did that to Paul?"

The girls got a rude awakening, as the guards yelled and clanged their batons against the cell walls. The clanging wasn't particularly necessary either really. It just hurt people's ears.

Dinnertime was fast approaching.

Standing up form her spot in the corner of the cell and holding her head. Nanashi got a really bad awakening when the guard started clanging the bars right be her head.

The girls heard the exact same speech as what the boys did.

There wasn't going to be any dinner tonight.
They were all going to leave all of their rooms and report to the deck where the lifeboats were located. And make the rest of the trip to the island on those boats. At the lite up beach they would be helped onto shore by other students and staff.
Once they were at the island... they would give their prisoner number slips to the attendant in order to retrieve what little belongings they had at the admittance warehouse. Unlike them, their belongings were transported ahead of time. Instinctively, the inmates checked to make sure they had their number on them.

Everyone was collectively amazed at the strange and the unnecessarily complex nature of this entire exercise.

"...If they were able to get our stuff to the island, then why do we have to take boats to get there ourselves?" Ai wondered aloud, after inspecting her prisoner number slip and slipping it back into her pocket.

The entire time on this ship, there seemed to be this overrunning sort of theme in regards to how the guards were treating them. Despite what happened at the cafeteria, only the prisoners stepped in to help. Even though there were sounds of fighting in some cells, no one came forward.

Prisoners were more or less being left to their own devices. So long as they continued to be kept in a controlled environment. Otherwise, if they were killed or died, it wasn't their problem.

"Well, considering how long we've been out at sea. I can guess that trying to use the lifeboats to try escaping simply won't end particularly well. They've kept us in these cells and behind barbed wire this entire time. They wouldn't suddenly give us boats unless getting to the island was as controlled as our time has been on this boat."

"What do you mean exactly, Nanashi?"

"...Even with a boat, we've got no choice but to go to Hisakawa. Otherwise, we'll just end up adrift at sea, with no idea where we are."

Nanashi had a point. Given how long they had been traveling, it was entirely unlikely that they'd be able to travel the same distance and live.

"Then, what about getting picked up by another boat passing by? That could happen."

"Do you really want to go for that chance?"

Ai, after thinking a moment, shook her head.

The doors to each cell were opened as a pair of officers with a set of keys went by. They directed them to go down the hall and take a couple of turns to get out to the lifeboat deck. On the port side of the ship.

Later...

[ October 1st, Late Evening / Hisakawa Prison Ferry, Port Lifeboat Deck ]

It was dark. The moon was able to cast enough light to dimly illuminate everything. But even then, facing out to the water, the lights of the beach that the students were to travel to were shining the brightest. Apparently, they were about a two kilometers away from where the prison ship was now anchored.

But the chill of the evening air. It was so cold. The students clad in regular uniforms shuddered at the thought of falling into the water.

The lifeboats, according to what was being passed along, was able to safely carry about 8 people each. Based on the number of students present, finding room wasn't too much of a problem. Students were again, left to their own devices to figure out what boat to get onto. Crewmen manning the lifeboat davits told everyone to stand in groups of eight before casting the lifeboats into the water.

Naturally, the girls and boys grouped to their respective genders. But there wasn't any official rule mandating gender segregation.

Unfortunately, for the people who had gotten acquainted in the cells of ten, decisions would have to be made on who would have to find another boat to squeeze onto.

"Eight people, that means, two of us have to go somewhere else. Well... I guess I'll go ahead and volunteer myself to go find another boat. Maybe if I'm lucky those boys we met earlier might have a spare spot."

"Are you sure Nanashi?"

"Yeah. I can take care of myself."

"Alright... let me go with you then!"

"You've been nice to me up through all of today. So let me return the favor at least. I can keep you from being all on your own again until we get to the island."

It was a pretty weak excuse.
Nanashi and some of the others were aware that Ai had her reservations about some of the girls. Once could tell just by how she was acting earlier. In truth, Ai was fine with most of them actually, but it seemed like she leaned towards Nanashi the most.

With Nanashi and Ai out, room aboard one boat was no longer an issue. They could probably find a place to squeeze themselves into.

There was absolutely no problems...
Right?

[ October 1st, Late Evening / Lifeboat Deck - Lifeboat]

Half wondering on what the betrayal was, it seemed something had caused them all to fall asleep, but upon waking nothing obvious was amiss, even at that evening dinner. As the row boat was lowered into the water, she was surprised the guards were letting them row off to the island, well they would have to be stupid to escape in these. More like Death than Freedom....

Death than Freedom... Thinking back to her family antics as she takes a spot towards the back of the boat a sudden realization of righteous anger ripped through her mind and body. Letting out a warriors yell as she gripped the back and sides of the ship, slowly rocking it as her face contorted with a bit of rage.

"If I may have your attention please! One of you have taken my Prison Number Slip while we slumbered. I have some ideas of whom, but you see, in my coming here many who I went with did not come back. A small number of things is all this warrior who failed a solemn duty... has left to remember them by... In my case a little clothes, an instrument and an art book... things dear to me not as they have monetary wealth but wealth of the heart..

One of you seven minus the missing two, touched me, in that cell at some point and had snatched my Prisoner ID Card, which contains what I need to get what yet remains from my family. This means everything to me, I would dare go as far to say, that this is worth dying for. And not just me alone...." At the stern of the ship , Kazuko uses her strength to move the ship swaying side to side, threatening them with a capsize in short order.

"I will stop this once we all have confirmed who may have my number, Or at least we see if any of you have more id's than you should, or how many of you also have been robbed. If all of us on this Boat were also robbed, then we need only find the two who left us..."

If it's Ai or the no name, then we wait for them on shore and beat the hell out of them. But might as well search where we can.."

Kazuko says in conclusion, rocking the boat to shoe she meant business. "If one of you has wronged me, I shall forgive it, in exchange for the item which was taken, If you refuse, then we all go for a swim, see how many sharks are here..."

Letting that linger there was then a sigh. "Personally If all of us were robbed, then we can all team up against the one with the items, but a simple show of hands and pants pockets may do for now." Moving on with this bit of calling then all out she shrugs. "I mostly want to see if it wasn't little AI that ran away with our things, or rather mine.."

"If this is a matter of items ending up in other pockets we can simply turn them back and be on our way, but a thief has taken something precocious from me is here.
So anyone want to owe up to that they did, apologize, come forward on what they are missing? Search the pockets of others to see? I will throw us into the see as a warning, so I guess some group effort here would be nice."

Waiting to see who would comply or agreed, her personality seemed to be a bit darker, casually dismissing drowning them all, all over her prisoner key. While some safety systems was likely in place for this, this would not do.. And just maybe some others were betrayed as well.

[ October 1st, Late Morning / Hisakawa Prison Ferry, Female Cell Deck]

It was a maelstrom of events. Kazuko declining the offer. Covering your ears and pretending that nothing will happen was stupid. If she'd known that.... Kuni wasn't going to sit by without knowing anything. Not again. Never again. Even if she was going to regret it, she'd take action. It was better than sitting still and doing nothing.

They kept calling her an idiot. A fool. Fuka was acting like she knew everything... but Kuni had seen what helplessness had felt like. The truth was deep and dark and an empty pit. It was the thoughts she'd seen the whole time, the kind that put her here. Her desperation to do something... and she had accomplished what she wanted. She wouldn't regret it. No one on this boat could make her.

She'd reach out the fortune teller too. It would be too sad of an ending if Kuni didn't.

"When you're put in the place of the reader you can only hope that character will provide enough entertainment until they break."

No. The audience wants to cheer the hero on. They want a victory in their lives, even when it looks bleak. An unhappy ending is something only a few people want. There was a reason that good ends existed.

Nanashi stepped forward in the place of Kazuko. "You don't have to, Nana-chan... it's ok to run when you're scared sometimes."

Hollow words Kuni had heard but never followed. Running hadn't done her any good, anyway. But she didn't have much time before the others chimed in. The Blueberry said she'd listen and offered to replace Nanashi, Laura volunteered a favor, and Kazuko was... well she was looking for a consensus, Kuni thought Kazuko was saying.

So... in the end Kuu spoke up and said that Kuni and Nanashi would be the ones owing the favor. Nanashi was determined to overturn the fortune, and Kuni wanted to help her do so.

"One of you in that cell is a traitor. That betrayal is due to occur before midnight. The level of inevitability, is Very High."

Well. That was helpful. Kuni tried to keep a straight face at the comment. She had kinda hoped that it'd be more rhyme-y... less blunt. Because at the very least people would need time to process possible meanings. It didn't take long to start slinging accusations. Kuni sighed, there wasn't much they could do about that... was there?

Fuka rebutted the accusation, and just as Kuni was about to turn away from the bars, she saw it. The tears on Fuka's face.
The prisoner's dilemma was dumb, but Fuka had a point. Even if she was painting herself as a worse and worse character by the moment. Kuni needed to think about this.

The argument went on for a while yet, but Kuni didn't have enough information about any of these people to jump to any conclusions. However, there were two people she would absolutely rule out. Fuka and Nanashi. Fuka wouldn't react that way towards being accused if she didn't care, and Nanashi.... Kuni would believe in Nanashi.

With nothing to do but think, Kuni soon fell asleep.

...
..
.

"Don't forgive me... what I did, I chose to do..."

.
..

CLANG CLANG CLANG

Kuni startled awake, jumping to her feet in and instant. The remains of her dream faded away and she was back in the cell. Right, it was time for dinner.

Except that it wasn't. Tonight, they'd be leaving the boat. No dinner. They'd been given slips to retrieve their belongings, so they just had to present them. Kuni checked her pockets to grab it so she'd know where it was.

[ October 1st, Late Evening / Hisakawa Prison Ferry, Port Lifeboat Deck ]

Kuni needed to ask Nanashi something. But before she could leave...

"If I may have your attention please! One of you have taken my Prison Number Slip while we slumbered."

Kuni stopped felt her thoughts stop. Should she admit that sort of thing? What if this was the betrayal?

".... someone took my slip as well."

Kuni even turned out her pockets for additional proof.

"My guitar is in there. I need it back... I won't be angry. I just want my stuff when we get to the island. Please, I just want my slip."

Kuni was more upset that she'd lost the slip than the betrayal. It really had been inevitable, huh?

"Please. It's all I have left."

Swoosh~

Was that the sound of the ocean tide. Or was it more of a-

Swish~

Toru had yet decided.

Most students had been awoken rather rudely in their cells. Toru, of course. Had already been awake before had. His sleep time had already ended by that point and there was little point for more. There was no dinner, as they were being led directly to these lifeboats to arrive at their final destination. Toru was fine with, he didn't think he could handle another meal from that boat. Not that he thought it would get better on this island.

But who was he to doubt their culinary skills?

He had been tempted to cross to a different boat, to meet more people. But it seemed that fate had decided on him to reach a boat with mostly his previous shared cellmates. Except the bully and a few others, of course.

As every student group sorted out who would leave to a different boat of leftovers. Or who could quickest get on a different boat to their cellmates, in some cases. Toru looked around, it was dark and noisy. But it seemed people were reletively able to sort it out themselves. And soon Toru had found himself in the boat that would carry them to the beach.

With two new additions, as well. Two girls had joined them, which made the whole a little bit of a tight fit. But it was fine.

Toru had folded his legs once again.

Swish~

No, it was definitely-

Swoosh~

"Oh."
His eyes snapped open. "The kitchen mess!" His fingled waggled to Hayato. "That's why you two joined this one" He gave another quiet 'ah'. He seemed ignorant of the cold, as his hands laid flat on his legs.

If he seemed gleeful, it was because he was out in the open once again. The great dark skies. The sea breeze. The un-decided sound of the ocean.

"It seems rather silly for our possesions to be locked to a slip right? If we lose that I suppose we don't get our belongings." His eyes rolled back over to Hayato. "Especially dangerous for you." If one thought about it, really.

"But I suppose that's just another clue to what we're heading to."

[ October 1st, Late Evening / Boy's Lifeboat]

In the frigid night, the ocean was an abysmal black. The choppy waves rocked the small boat to and fro, spraying the occupants with a freezing salty mist. If it wasn't for the cloudless sky, it would have seemed a storm was in store. Instead, a canvas of stars shined above with the colours of the galaxy.

It was a beautiful sight that could have made anyone forget the illuminated island ahead, however, Edeir sat at the prow of the boat with a handkerchief to his nose thinking, not about the sky or Hisakawa nor even the cold, but the pathetic lot of losers he'd been soo lucky to get stuck with. Damn it all.

It was official. He wanted them all dead. Well, not all of them, but basically all of them.

He could admit that he had made a fault in thinking that Banri would be bright enough to form an alliance. Aside from that, he was guilty of nothing. Really, he found it more frustrating that despite being in a prison his fellow inmates still felt it necessary to put on airs and act like moralistic citizens. Absolutely disgusting. Even worse, they still verbally lynched him when all he'd wanted was to start forming alliances! Completely hypocritical!

Well they could all go to hell as far as he was concerned. He'd be more than happy to send them there himself, and the sooner the better too.

Edeir glared at them. Banri, Takashi and Hayato, Aster, Toru. He'd kill them in that order. He couldn't quite decide on if he wanted Takashi or Hayato to die first though. Well, he could figure out how to kill them both at the same time.

He shifted his gaze to across the water, feeling bile in his throat from just looking at them(or it may have been the salt water). Some ways away he spied some girl rocking her boat for whatever reason, possibly because she was insane-

Inspiration!

Edeir tucked his handkerchief away and firmly grabbed the sides of the boat, his knuckles turning white from the pressure.

"Salutations heathens. Have you noticed how cold the night is? Can you imagine just how freezing the embrace of the ocean's waters would be?"
He narrowed his eyes and started rocking the boat, yelling over the sound of the waves, "Know that you have made a grave error in daring to cross me for at this moment I hold your lives in my hands. You may try to beg my forgiveness if you wish, but know that the most grievous of sins cannot be repented. To you who have done me no wrong," he looked at Ryuu and the two girls sitting together that he didn't care to recognize, "do not blame me, but those around you who acted brazenly with no regard for collateral damage. I share this fate with you for the greater good of all."

And with that he threw his weight with the boat as it precariously tipped to one side and falls gracelessly into the water while everyone else stays safely in their seats.

Hayato_Ico.jpg

[ October 1st, Afternoon / Hisakawa Prison Ferry, Male Cells Deck ]

After Banri and Takashi spoke along with Toru, Hayto looked concerned.

"Now now now, there's no need for such harsh words. Let's get along…"

Hearing Ryuu's explanation, Hayato seemed to nod his head in understanding.

"Oh, I see. Edeir-san, was it? Thank you Ryuu-kun. I appreciate that."

Ryuu then suggested a game of cards, to which the fat boy and Aster seemed delighted to play. Hayato shook his head in refusal though.

"I apologize Ryuu-kun, I do seem rather fatigued at the moment. I think maybe another time."

Hayato then went back to his original spot, sat down, leaned against the wall, and closed his eyes.

Yes, I said "saw" and not "met". She was Airi Hoshino and the fourth member of that group I mentioned.

She's a lively girl that seemed to get along with anyone and everyone, always addressing others by their first name and -kun. And this girl showed me a huge grin, as if she saw the funniest thing in the world.

To her simple question, I responded…

"U-u-u-um, ah, huh? What?"

I stuttered and sounded like an idiot. To this, Hoshino-san's expression turned serious.

"Even though you had such a great answer, the response wasn't that good from our members, wasn't it? I think salt and pepper cookies could be a big hit!"

Hoshino-san genuinely thought my stupid non-answer was a great answer. But it wasn't unexpected from her, as she had some really dumb sounding answers like "soy sauce to the macaroni and cheese could be refreshing", or "tuna fish and jello!" Unlike me though, she was sincere or a skilled actor. Since she was never in any drama club, I assumed the former. I prayed for her distorted taste buds.

Honestly, Handa and Sakurazaki, my two group members, have my condolences. To be paired with me, who gave useless bullshit, and Hoshino-san who seriously said weird stuff, it must have been tiring.

"Ah, i-i-i-is that so?"

I mumbled that response back to her, not meeting her eyes and in a low voice.

"That is so! And oh?"

She pointed at the light novel I was holding.

"That's a light novel, isn't it? Got any recommendations, Hayato-kun?"
"…"

My hands were trembling and my thumbs pushed down on the pages so hard that I wouldn't have been surprised if the pages fused together. It was an involuntary reaction.

I didn't understand her.

Why would she, who was constantly chit chatting with her friends, strike up a conversation with someone as depressing as me?

I looked up from the light novel I was staring at to look at her. I was hoping to convey a "what do you want" sort of face, but Hoshino-san didn't seem to get the reason for my behavior, and tilted her head in confusion. For a few moments, we remained silent, staring at each other.

"I just wanted to talk to you. Please, let me be your disciple."

My stoic face crumbled as I processed her words.

"Huh?"

[ October 1st, Late Evening / Lifeboat]

Hayato tilted his head in apparent confusion as Toru pointed at him. When Toru seemed to have finished, Hayato opened his mouth to speak, his teeth chattering as he spoke.

"E-e-e-e-etto, T-t-t-t-toru-san I don't seem to-"

Hayato stopped when Edeir spoke. Edeir started to shake the boat and fell over by himself, the boat miraculously staying afloat.

"Oh no, Edeir-san!"

Hayato immediately threw himself over the boat into the water near Edeir. But when he got in…

"Ah!"

A gasp and some splashes. But Hayato didn't seem to be making any progress towards Edeir; his head bobbed below and above the water, not making any vocal sounds.

Aster was disappointed. No one had joined him and Ryuu to play cards, which was fine he supposed. Though their game was cut short by the guards forcing them out into the cold afternoon at least the weather was nice. Perhaps they could continue their game in the boats, if the wound up in the same one that is. His stomach grumbled as he realized along with being interrupted he never got any dinner. Seems the trip to shore would be sadder than intended. Perhaps when they got to shore they be treated to a meal, like curry! He was feeling better already at the thought of a spicy, hearty dish waiting for him on the island in the distance.

Soon enough he found himself in a lifeboat with most of his cellmates, including two girls he recognized from the cafeteria. At least he'd be able to finish his game with Ryuu after all, if he was up to it that is. Aster watched as the boat was slowly lowered into the water, feeling the temperature drop as the neared the sea. Once they rickety boat was completely submerged he stuck his hand in the water to feel condition. It was absolutely frigid, causing him to inhale sharply upon contact.

It was lovely.

[ October 1st, Late Evening / Lifeboat ]
They had barely moved far from the rust bucket that had transported them when things started to go awry. Edeir had made a grand statement about how most of them had slighted him and he was going them pay by capsizing the boat, even if it meant innocents getting caught in the crossfire. It made sense to him, considering after the smack down that had happened in the cell he must have been feeling really salty. He wondered if he was part of the people he hated. Was Edeir really that angry about Aster not wanting him to touch him? If he wanted to ask he never got the chance as in the boy human's efforts to tip the boat he wound up knocking himself out instead.

It happened so suddenly he wasn't sure if he should be concerned for him or laugh. In the end he did a mixture of the two, which looked more like a shudder followed by wheezing than anything. Unlike him, Hayato the Hero and possibly crazy, jumped into the sea after Edeir to help him get back onto the boat. Once more he found himself admiring him for his bravery until he noticed something... off.

'Um, guys? I think Hayato is drowning.' Aster commented as he looked worriedly at Hayato's body completely as the mercy of the waves. He should help him, he thought, it was such an easy thing to do especially when it wasn't as if he had to be brave and stand up to people twice or even triple his size; it's just just some water! He looked nervously at the others to see if they would act before standing up. It seemed Aster's vast collection of useless knowledge was going to help him for once.

'Hayato! I''m coming!' Aster yelled before removing his uniform's jacket and diving into the water. Finally he could take action to be more than a bystander; he was in his element. He could have reached (far) out and grab Hayato and drag him back into the boat but truthfully, he was itching for an excuse to jump in the water since the temperature was perfect beyond definition. However with Hayato in need of help he could take Takashi's words to heart and put himself in motion... though once Hayato was ok he might decide to spend an extra minute or two in the water. He knew one act of 'bravery' wasn't enough to make up for all his cowardly doings in his life, but it was a start.

He hit the surface of the water and was briefly submerged before making his way to surface seeing Edeir and Hayato not too far from him. Aster swam his way over to him and tried hoisting him up, using the currents to help keep him afloat. 'Hayato are you ok? Can you hear me?' Aster asked before shouting to the boys (and girls) on the boat, 'I could use some help getting him out the water!'

[ October 1st, Late Evening / Boys' Lifeboat ]

Nanashi and Ai sat awkwardly in the back of the boat. They felt so out of place, being the only two girls there. The other boys, even if Ai recognized a couple of them from lunch earlier, didn't seem to pay them much mind.

Everything that happened next. It was so fast. Stumbling upon the group Hayato and the other boys. Being cordoned onto the boat. And the boy who held some kind of strong grudge against the others. If anything it seemed like something had been going on with these people when they were cooped up in their jail cell as well.

That boy hated them enough to try to dump everyone into the water.
But he failed, falling into the water himself instead.

Without hesitation Hayato jumped in after to save him. And soon after another boy threw of his jacket (conveniently slinging onto Ai's head) and went into the water to save the two whom had gone before them. Retrieving them, he asked for help getting the two out of the water.

Without hesitation, Nanashi helped out.

"Here."

She said, leaning over to take one of them up.

It was hard to get a word in for Ai and Nanashi. Even after helping the three boys get back on the boat.

While the two were soaking wet, at least they had not drowned. But, beyond that, it seemed like there was something that had happened between all of these boys earlier. It was just good practice to not try to get involved.

"Oh, and here is your jacket back, by the way."

Ai said, handing back the jacket that had gotten thrown on her to the boy with white hair.

They rowed onward to shore. Following a majority of the other boats heading that way.

They tried their best to ignore the screams for help coming from the other side of the ship. Whomever had decided to try to make a run for it out in these wide waters had paid for it dearly. It was clear from the gunshots that the guards on the ship forfeited all forms of mercy to those who tried to get away on their boats. Faintly, they could hear cheering and laughter. One could easily imagine the guards atop the ship with their rifles leaning up against the railing cheering at getting a chance to shoot at kids on this trip.

A similar fate awaited anyone who would try to go the same direction. There was no saving the people on that boat.

Nanashi, unable to stand it much longer, and trying to take her mind off of it, finaly just blurted out the next other thing she was thinking about.

"So... that guy trying to knock us off the boat. Did something happen?"

"Hey... come on, that isn't any of our business..."
Ai pleaded with Nanashi to lay off on the topic.

"If the boat got knocked over then it would've thrown us into the water too. So yeah. It IS our business."

Forta continued.

"Why try saving someone who just made it clear in their intentions that they want you to suffer? Didn't you just open the door for a second chance for that person to do something again?"

The subtext of Forta's question was clear enough for anyone listening.

Lets tie this person down until we get to the island.

[ October 1st, Afternoon / Hisakawa Prison Ferry, Female Cells Deck ]

Fuka just glanced at Nanashi in disappointment as she awkwardly held her thumb down alone. Suddenly, she retracted it back when she took a slap from Blueberry and let out a resigned sigh as many of them took the devious Chibiminto WAY too seriously.

"I guess this will be more interesting anyways..."

[ October 1st, Late Evening / Girls' Lifeboat ]

For the most part, Fuka had acted 'normal' for the past few hours; tossing out the occasional subtle anime reference here and there. The idea of a betrayer didn't appear to bother her in the slightest. What did finally phase her, was the sound of guns firing in the distance, and that incessant smile of her's finally faded into more of a melancholy neutral.

Resting her head on the cold, rough side of the ship, the hard surface underneath her suddenly lurched upwards, giving her a soft whack on the jaw. With a swift turn, she recognized Kazuko who began to accuse someone of theft while smacking the ship around.

Fuka didn't show surprise at all. Instead, her face grew even more grim, and finally, angry. Furiously angry. With a calculated motion, Fuka rushed forward against the rocking ship and grabbed Kazuko by the collar of her uniform threateningly.

"Knock it off! NOTHING is worth your life, UNDERSTAND!?" Fuka let go with a light shove and reached into her shirt pocket, removing Kazuko's prisoner ID and waving it around dangerously close to the dark waters. "Does that mean you'd trade me your life for this? You'd stab yourself through the heart so you could die with this?" Her questions were laced with sarcasm and she concluded with a shout, "DON'T BE RIDICULOUS!"

Having made her point, Fuka brought the ID back in the boat and slapped it in Kazuko's hand. "I won't apologize for something I didn't steal."

Fuka returned to her old position and tried to calm herself back down, responding calmly to Bubblegum, "I only had the two: her's and mine. The thief is in another castle.... or boat, rather."

Laura_Ico.jpg

[ October 1st, Late Evening / Girls' Lifeboat ]

There was no use worrying over spilled eggs. Despite her efforts to stay awake to go even as far as declaring her intent to engage with others in conversation, Laura had ultimately fallen asleep. In that time period, until now, someone somewhere had the chance to do something.

Despite the gang-leader that managed to sneak up behind her, Laura liked to think it wasn't so easy as to simple take something away from her while conscious. Much less give her something that wasn't hers to begin with. So, whatever it was it had to be done while asleep.

Was this the betrayal Kuuyari talked about? Ridiculous. Then again it was a fact that more than half of the people on this boat generally behaved like 10 year olds, so doing something so ridiculous and hoping for a sort of impact wasn't out of the question?

Watching the disgusting exchange between Fuka and Kazuko, with the former having both IDs, made it clear that maybe there was more to it. Not to mention that two girls were actually absent. What if Laura's ID wouldn't appear? That was... quite the conundrum.

If she were to keep this... was there even a gain? Considering how the guards reacted so far, 'cashing in' multiple IDs might even be a thing. Though, the belongings of the others were probably worthless to her?

Laura's plan was, after all, to get over this ridiculous prison and continue as before. Running the risk into extra trouble didn't seem worth the reward.

With her mind set, Laura cleared her throat to get everybody's attention. "Alright. So, clearly whoever did this is hoping to create a disturbance between us - seeing how I also have something that I shouldn't own." Any form of denial would have only created more suspicion. "Now, I wouldn't mind returning that at all BUT you see I just so happen to miss my own ID, too." Giving it a small pause to let those words sicker in, Laura continued, walking over to Kuni.

"I don't buy your stupid-cinnamon-roll-act at all. You ARE a criminal, consider yourself lucky that the Fortune Teller girl trusted your word, because I will do so, too." With that Laura handed Kuni over her ID.

With that done, Laura now looked at Rinne."IF everybody else is clean that only leaves YOU, silent one. So I'll be blunt: Do you have my ID or not?"
Rinne was surprised at Laura's accusation. She didn't stole anyone's ID, she wouldn't do it unless she despises the person greatly. "What!? I would never done that!" She lashed out, she then reaches over her pocket and realized that her ID slip is missing. "Wait... No way..." Rinne frantically searches her pocket for her ID slip. "I didn't have mine!" She yelled out, pulling her pocket out. Revealing that she indeed have nothing inside her pocket. "See!?" Rinne said, confirming that she had her ID missing and that she doesn't have the other's ID.
"It is as I might have feared then. One of us is the actual victim and it just so happens to be me? That, one of the other two girls has my ID or one of you is lying." The white-hairs eyes now sharpened. "And I have no incentive to believe anyone of you. Turning your pockets inside out? Oh c'mon. I'm starting to doubt that you actually ARE criminals."

This was getting quite annoying, shaking her head to rid herself of useless thoughts Laura once again talked to Rinne. "Alright. I shall play right into the hands of the perpetrator and keep your ID for myself. Why? Because I have no reason to believe you, or anyone here, are telling the truth. I'm very well aware I kind of antagonize myself here BUT I have no reason to keep Rinne's ID any longer if I get my own back. You have my word. Simple as that, no? So, oh so innocent Hero, you can either play into the so-called Evil Masterminds plan and try to take it by force or, instead, help me find my own ID." Having made her own position clear there was one last thing she had to do.

"Oh, and if you do decide for a forceful approach I can not vouch for the integrity of your ID." Was Laura... threatening to rip Rinne's ID apart if they tried to take it by force?

Regardless of that, after Laura has been rather silent in the cell before she was finally showing her true nature?

[ October 1st, Late Evening / Lifeboat]

Suddenly a whirlwind of events taken place, gunfire that made her stiffen a little, another being robbed and Fuka coming forward with her pass. With a look of rage glossing her eyes, she would have attacked Fuka then and there by most accounts, but the laters remarks and threats to throw it into the sea gave her pause. Though she could not just let those words go, even as she got her pass back.

"Nothing is worth your life? What is the point in a wretched life with no values, foundations and worth?! People need more than just the fact they are alive to live! Living day to day! Playing games, watching fashion, lying to one another?! How can you call that a life!? How can that be better than an honorable death!?"

Looking at the gunmen, Kazuko sighs, releasing her grasp of the boat, shaking her head in turn. The leaders of this program only gave her two clear instructions in regards to this program, she could not mention her family name, nor her Crime. Not yet at least, but all the same..

"Yes I would give my life for things that are meaningful to me. I should not even be alive. My hair used to be as Pink as hers;"
The Samurai girl says, pointing at Kuni,
before looking towards the guards. "...but a large blood loss in an instant can remove or change one's hair coloring for some time... In the last several months I have not heard from my family minus one, who's fate I know. Those stupid little items are all I have left, you are not the only crazy one here to the standards of most.." Looking the girl hard in the eyes and calming herself down, Kazuko shakes her head with a sigh of resigning herself to this fate.

"Your eyes do not lie to me.. I will trust your words, as I considered you to be made the culprit.. Someone likely switched us all.. Likely to have us meet the same fate.. And we should not be swimming now... The Blood in the water will likely attract those sharks in short order.."

Reaching into her pockets, Kazuko shows they are empty, before bowing her head lightly and putting her own card away. "I have none of yours.. Though I wonder how we all fell asleep like that.. It is very unbecoming.."

To add on to what she had said, Laura had went on about having no reason to trust them and having another's prisoner number as well. Claiming her own was stolen as well, sighing this all was rather dramatic, sighing as two of the boys seemingly went for a swim. "I have no cause to lie to you in this regard. You can search me if you have the nerve to do so. I have what I wanted, the rest is unimportant.. Though it is likely there is a source of all of this, the other two girls depending on what we find we'll need to corner.. And I said We, I'll work on rowing us while you all get this sorted out... With that shooting and the idiots in the other boat these seas will not stay calm." Grabbing a paddle and working it from both sides, it was a bit of effort to get the small ship moving on her own accord as she switched sides in rowing as to prevent them from going in circles.

Rinne's defense wasn't believed that easily, she should've known. She is, along with the others in the boat are now criminal scums. With Laura threatening to rip Rinne's ID slip, Rinne's eyes widened in fear. Because... Within her belongings, there's so many mementos she couldn't afford to lose. The things that reminds her to immediately 'graduate' from this shithole that is the Hisakawa prison school.

"No... Why are you doing this!?" Rinne lashed out again. Her body is already trembling, anger and fear mixing inside her thoughts. She clenches her fist, thinking of trying to take it by force. Breathing in and out audibly. She groaned before pulling her fist back intending to punch Laura, but before she could swing her punch forward, she loosened up and slumps down.

"Fine... I'll help you find your ID... I believe, like Kazuko... You have something important within your belongings right? I'll help you out then! Just please... Don't rip my ID apart..." Rinne said resentfully. Believing that she wouldn't be able to try to take her ID by force without risking losing it, unless some dumb luck happened. Even so...

"Look, if I'm still not believeable, then fine. You can do whatever you need to believe what I just said. Full body check, stripping me full naked, whatever... But know this, you are not the only victim here! We're all victims of whoever the fuck is messing with us!" She said once again at Laura. "And it's sure as hell wasn't me!"

[ October 1st, Late Evening / Boys' Lifeboat ]

Edeir had started talking. Toru tilted his head at the tone of it, "Wha-"

Ka-dunk-

Splash!

Toru mouth opened and a closed a few times.

Chaos, quickly two more were in. Aster and Hayato. Both of their own volition. Fumbling around in the water...

The drumming of his heart went faster and faster.

Gunshots and laughter. This was the place he was heading to. This was the people he was stuck with. This was the hell he was stuck in. How....how...

Guess what!

Lifeboat. A Lifeboat, also known as a liferaft, is a small, stiff or inflatable boat carried for emergencies in the event of a disaster on a ship. Lifeboats are required by law to be on larger ships. When steamships became commonplace in the 19th century, so did Lifeboats.

Lifeboats are also useful for Sunbathing. Getting rid of Friends who trouble you. Making shitty Bouncy Castles. And reminding the fish that you are the Superior species.

Older Lifeboats relied on sails and oars which are slower and dependent on wind conditions or manpower. Modern Lifeboats generally have electronic devices such as radios and radar to help 'locate' the party in distress and carry medical and food supplies to taunt the surviors.

Learning is so fun!

Toru stared at nothing. The sea swimmers had been brought back. Some mumblings had happened since, but there was a type of awkward stunned silence over everyone.

"So... that guy trying to knock us off the boat. Did something happen?"

"Nothing."

The girl continued. Raising a glaringly obvious point. He stared blankly at her.

"Well. That would be the best course of action, I agree. But how would you suppose we do it?"

Blink.

"Chucking him back in the sea? Tearing his throat out? Breaking his limbs one by one? Smashing his head in. Choking him? With-" He prodded Aster's jacket. "-this maybe?" Toru licked his gums. "Doesn't really matter how. But it would benefit to deal with the wouldbe murderer while we're in the water, no?"

"Unless you want to be stuck with him for your stay in the place, of course. The guy who tried to kill you."
He snorted. The sound of a gunshot boomed throughout the sky again. "Not like the guards will care, anyway."

Everything sucked, everything was trash, and Banri just hoped that they wouldn't ever have to go rowing again. Caught between the hell that was unpleasantly cold weather and choppy waves, the raven-haired teen swayed drunkenly as the dinghy little raft that the guards had called a 'lifeboat' went up and over and up and over while he clutched the side of the shitty raft and dry heaved, his stomach doing triple somersaults as he gagged and spewed and caught a mouthful of the salty brine. Spitting it out and screwing his face up with disgust at the pungent sea salt that punched his nose like a professional boxer, Banri once again praised the lord for the fact that they hadn't had to eat dinner. God knows how much worse the experience would have been if his stomach actually had something in it.

Regardless, he was a poor, pale boy now, complexion green and body tense as he continued to lean over one side of the raft, bile and saliva expelled irregularly from his stomach. Ugh, how awful. Ugh, how horrifying. Ugh, at this point, maybe he should just fling himself off and swim there instead. But then there was hypothermia and his tag would get wet and everything would be super duper awfullll.

Really, Banri had no time to care about all the drama going on behind him. Gunshots sounding and Edeir being a jackass played second fiddle to his primary concern of not throwing up his organs through his mouth. Others couldn't leave that dickhole to his fate though, the splish splash of heroism just ending up with a train of assheads that leaped into the frigid waters one after another. The girls that decided to join this cesspool of masculine pride and murderous intent had the right idea at least: don't dive in the water. Just pull them up from the boat.

Also meant, though, that they were stuck with this asshole once again.

"Toss 'im over," Banri spat, vision swimming, "He sounded happy enough the first time. The hell did you fish him out for, when he wanted to go for a dip to begin with?"

Just sick and tired of all this bullshit.

"And plenty of shit happened. People tried to start up a lynch mob early and got pissy when it got nowhere. Guess that's what happens when rich bois don't get what they want."

[ October 1st, Late Evening / Hisakawa Prison Ferry, Port Lifeboat Deck ]

The others' game didn't last very long. Soon enough guards came in and shoved them all off to the lifeboats. No dinner, no rest. They would make their journey now. A while ago someone may have been in jeopardy of getting killed and the staff stood idle, yet now they appeared once all was more or less resolved for the moment.

Pushed out to the deck, it appeared once again the vessels would be separated like the cells, save for two girls who made their way over to the men's side due to a lack of space on the other. Looking around, the breeze felt nice. In such situations, one needed to draw from simple pleasures, even if it was a bit cold. Though, as was per usual with this group it seemed, simple pleasures were not allowed.

It didn't take long for once they were dipped into the water that the messiah complex among them decided to take revenge, though for what, Takashi wasn't entirely sure. Was it because he pointed out the hypocrisy of the boy's statements and actions? That was a rather trivial reason to hold such a grudge. The fox-eyed among the group may have acted like the lax type, but he too had a long memory.

A long-winded speech followed by—disappointment. Really, for as how arrogant as he was, Takashi saw very little sense in any of Edeir's actions or logic. Vengeance at the cost of one's own well being? How did that work? Say he tips the boat over, then what? They all freeze along with innocents caught in the crossfire. Was he going to strap a bomb to his chest next and run at them screaming? On top of that, he failed. Sure, the raft was rocked a bit, but the only ones who dipped into the ocean did so of their own volition it seemed.

Hayato was in first, seemingly to save the person who had just attempted to kill them all over some verbal disagreements. Next was Aster, this time to save Hayato who wasn't doing so well. Surprisingly enough, Aster did appear to have some guts after all, just not with confrontation. Toru himself was... off. Surprisingly cold words from someone willingly being a punching bag earlier.

Flinching at the sound of gunshots, Takashi moved to the side as well to aid in dragging the fallen back aboard. Edeir however—well, he tried to kill them. It was one thing to act like a spoiled brat, but actually threatening his own life, he wasn't going to forget that.

Looking to Nanashi who questioned what just happened, Toru and Banri replied. Nodding to Banri's comment, Takashi himself sighed. "You're asking the wrong person. I don't quite understand Edeir's logic. He tried to act tough ganging up on a pacifist and preaching about justice, a hypocrisy I pointed out. Probably the spoiled type, not used to not getting his way, lashes out when he doesn't." Takashi's voice didn't hold anger or rage, but seemingly annoyance at the whore ordeal. "Or at least, that's what I am able to presume with the limited experience I have on him."

Moving on, there was the matter of what to do with the failed murderer. "Regardless of his childish reasoning, we should discuss with care how to deal with him. On land we may have a fighting chance against whatever he may try, but in water he could easily screw us all over." That said, Takashi looked back at the ferry as another gunshot rang out. "The guards don't care for us and it's safe to say that whomever inhabits this new prison will not either. We'll need to deal with things ourselves from here on out; no one to come and save us."

Fuka simply sat and listened as Kazuko explained herself, nodding occasionally, more in understanding than agreement. At least she wasn't about to kill the lot of them. She watched Kazuko make a couple of strokes through the water, before grabbing the other oar to help paddle.

"As long as you have your life, you can find new things to live for," Fuka scolded the grey hair across from her as the two rowed the boat forward. "I don't care what you believe; no throwing your life away." She glared right into Kazuko's eyes, as if she could stare the demand into her. "... and I didn't realize hair worked that way. Glancing to her side, Fuka grinned at Vanilla's drastic hostage situation. "Villains will be villains. We'll hurry up so we can catch Snowball and Candy then. Plus, I'm curious what's on this island of mysteries."

"I'm glad you're seeing reason." Laura simply nodded upon Rinne's small...outburst? She was nearly about to punch Laura, no? Good thing the white-hair made that threat. Maybe Rinne wasn't all just bark after all. "I may appear like an asshole to you right now but rest assured I will keep my word. We have a deal, alright? I get my ID, you get yours. If there is something you should be aware of about me is that I take a word, pledge, contract, call it whatever you will, very serious. It is unforgivable to break such word and I expect the other party to honor it just the same." With that said Laura now, too, sat down onto one of the free spots on the other end of the small boat and started rowing as well.

If it was true that somebody else had her ID than she'd rather get to the island as fast as possible.

After a few seconds of silence however Laura spoke up once again to those who 'offered' to lend their entire body to Laura. "And if my ID is truly not appearing I WILL search you thoroughly." Before she eyed Kazuko. "Don't worry, I'm not scared of a schoolgirl."

Kuni_Ico.jpg

[ October 1st, Late Evening / Girls' Lifeboat]

The guns firing in the distance made Kuni jump, but she had to insist on the return of her guitar. It was the one thing she really cared about.

But Fuka snapped. She started yelling and waving the paper dangerously close to the water. It wasn't Kuni's, but she was still worried about both Fuka and Kazuko. There wasn't anything they both needed to quarrel over. This betrayal fortune was hanging heavily over everyone's heads, wasn't it?

"I only had the two: her's and mine. The thief is in another castle.... or boat, rather."

"Thank you, Coridal-chan. I'm sure Kazuko's stuff is more important my silly stuff anyway."

That was a lie, but it was a white lie. There wasn't a need for her to rock the boat any further anyway.

"I don't buy your stupid-cinnamon-roll-act at all. You ARE a criminal, consider yourself lucky that the Fortune Teller girl trusted your word, because I will do so, too."

"Act...? I don't understand what you're talking about, but thank you so much, Laura-chan! I know I said that it wasn't important stuff... but it still means a lot to get it back despite you not trusting me!"

She took her ID and held it tightly against her chest. However, Laura was holding Rinne's ID as a threat. Kuni couldn't think of a way to further prove people's innocence, but took a breath to think. The culprit shuffled the IDs around. What did that mean? Kuni dug into all of her anime knowledge and tried to solve the mystery.

"Guys... we have to keep calm. I know this is a bad situation, and I know that we all want to point fingers. But we can't distrust each other yet! The perpetrator is obviously doing this on purpose. So, let's go over what we know. I'm innocent, because whoever took my ID didn't swap it with someone else's, and if their motivation was to get money for our stuff that wouldn't be right, not to mention that I've stated quite a few times that I want us all to work together. But who did have IDs? Cordial-chan and Laura-chan. Both of whom had been acting suspicious beforehand."

Kuni took a breath. "That's three people innocent. Almost half of the people in this boat. So, we also know Rinne-chan doesn't have Laura's ID. Uhm... who hasn't been searched yet?"

Did anyone not turn out their pockets? Plus it wasn't as if the girls had a lot of hiding spots in these uniforms. Kuni bit her thumb trying to think. She needed to figure out how to defuse the situation and not bring up the possibility of Ai or Nanashi having stolen the IDs. Kuni would quietly ask when they landed. Should she lie again? Say that the guard swapped the papers when they handed it out?

Kuni turned out her pockets again and left them that way, as a further mark of her innocence. It was the only thing she could think to do right now.

"If only it were so simple. My purpose was lost, I... no, that is not a conversation for now." Appreciating the aid however, perhaps she would need to rethink her view of this one, though just why was she here... Though the later comment did catch her ear in a bemused way. "Chewed up bubblegum huh? Kekeke, that's the right of it. Though I would rather keep my normal name baring my hair color returning, though the blood loss alone is not the cause.. Anyways... Let's get underway."

Watching the others interactions, the remarks of Laura did catch her interest of note, more so that last one. "You have nothing I would want, though are you not also a Schoolgirl?" Narrowing her lifeless, hostile eyes at the foreigner, the aura she gave off was thick enough to choke the air as gazes met. "Ah well, only kidding, of course you are, as much as I am." Not bothering to clarify on what that meant, Kazuko returns to her rowing as Kuni joins the fray.

Thought she did raise a few interesting points, though some of them seemed to be wishful thinking, or justified paranoia. "Keep in mind if I were lying in my actions, then I have kept this act up flawlessly, the fact is I threatened you all directly, had I wanted your things I would have taken them, or died in the attempt.. I am no thief at the very least. While I am sure you didn't bring it up on purpose, I think one of the two you do not wish to mention have the others. We should set out with speed to welcome them to the Island.. Though I think I can make out a complex of some sort in the distance.. And if it makes you feel better I'll help to insure your agreement is carried out."

Sure of her words Kazuko does sigh slightly as if to concede a point. "Maybe one of those here do have what you are looking for however, I must concede, but let us be..ah yes, the term is be real here.. What do any of us have of value for the others to foolishly keep for themselves? None of you have an escape drill or raft waiting in your box, at most you'll have books, photos and clothing of strangers for your theft. Of what value is that to the rest?"

Continuing her row, there was another possibility, the Administration may have a back up physical registration and this was a test of responsibility or of following command.. Though that was an assumption on her part and not a false hope she wanted to lay with them. The fact the items were tied to a slip of paper alone was ludicrous in hindsight.. They were making good speed, Fuka was stronger than she looked.

Grey, black, grey, grey, black. It's quite hard to tell colors apart here on the lifeboat, if it's not pitch black, it's grayish blur and anything in between.
Aside from the bright lights on the beach and the searchlights of the guards, there is barely any illumination for the passengers.
You can't even recognize your neighboring guy without looking at his face for an extended period of time, hoping that he would not be creeped out by your sudden glare.
It's that level of darkness.

On top of that, the sea breeze does feel good.
The cold and chilling air was perfect to remedy the stuffy and stinky cell the boys were in earlier this afternoon.
The splashing waves created a beautiful rhythm for your hearing pleasure.
And the fresh ocean smell, not too sharp on the nose, just perfect.

In this hauntingly beautiful atmosphere, Ryuu found himself......

Sleeping.

Yes, after their brief game of blackjack was interrupted by the guards, after they were told to line up in a group and queue for a lifeboat, and after the boys got on the lifeboat.....
Ryuu instantly nodded off.
Edeir's gentle rocking motion of the rowboat and grandiose sleep-inducing lecture certainly does not help.
It's pretty much like sitting on the backseat for a joyride at night with aircon full blasting and ambient sound of ocean waves playing on the background.
Feeling drowsy is a given here.

But still, he slept silently through all the gunshots, all the ungodly screams of escapees and the mad laughter of the guards, an eerie spectacle so to speak, like a baby sleeping in the middle of a warzone.
He didn't even realize Nanashi and Ai were there to join the boys in their lifeboat.
When a man who was tempered by the flames of the criminal underworld is able to sleep soundly in an unknown environment, it can only mean two things.
One, he feels very safe and protected. Perhaps he is watched by his family and friends, perhaps he is in his lover's embrace.
Or two, he does not think of anyone in his immediate surrounding as a threat, a sign of utmost confidence in his abilities.

Regardless of which one it is, Ryuu received an unpleasant taste of a wakeup call.
A classic water splash to his face.

"..... Huh?!"

Edeir and Hayato fell off the boat, followed soon by Aster who dived in to save the two.
Suffice to say the three of them made quite a few splashes here and there, with some of these splashes went inside the boat. One of them just happened to splash off Ryuu's face in a manner so ridiculously bizarre it's like a prank video.

"... Ara ara... If it's not the lovely miss Nana and miss Ai, certainly a pleasure to meet you here again!"
Regaining his composure and trying his best to hide his rattling teeth due to the deathly cold water, Ryuu greeted Nanashi and Ai, the first ones he saw after he opened his eyes.

"... but oh my... What is going on? It certanly is lively here!"
I swear the whole scene looks ridiculous now.

Soon afterwards, the whole debacle came to a close, with Edeir and Hayato being saved by Aster and Nanashi. Ryuu got the quick tl;dr from everyone onboard: they are deciding on what to do with Edeir, who apparently tried to tip the boat over while Ryuu was sleeping.

"... Maa maa... Mister Toru, mister Banri, let us not get hasty now..."
Ryuu tried to defuse the situation with his signature smile to no avail. After all, Edeir did proclaim his intention to ruin every single one of them on the boat. It's not something you can just gloss over and laugh at. Well, it is for Ryuu at least.

"... I'm sure you people are able to size him up and conclude that mister Edeir here does not possess the ability to be of any threat to us?"
That was a huge assumption coming from Ryuu, who thinks the rest of the people onboard are veteran and seasoned criminals.

"I do agree with mister Takashi that mister Edeir here was being childish. Wasn't his action more of...."
Flashing off one of his biggest smile to date after rubbing his chin to find the proper words, Ryuu delivered a one liner that seemingly stopped time itself,

"..... Wasn't it more of a cute temper tantrum?"
Ryuu, I know that you really think of Edeir as a harmless kid, but even a blind ass grandma can hear you sound amazingly condescending here.

"..... but yes, naughty kids must receive a befitting punishment so that he can reflect on his actions, not simply tossing him overboard. Perhaps I can hold him down while everyone onboard take turns to slap him?"
Uh Ryuu, that would be an even more degrading punishment than simply tossing him overboard.

"..... or would you prefer spanking instead??"

Holy shit, Ryuu, calm your tits.
