The Wolf Pack

' Crikey, ' mumbled Grenade, shaking his head slightly. He felt slightly dazed with Difference's sudden attack, but he guessed that was how his boss was. Mad, and unpredictable.
Difference, regaining his composure stood tall, and did his signature plastic smile, running through the pantomime.
' Oh good good good, ' he said quickly, padding forwards. ' Well then. We better go meet this lovely sounding pack Hm? '
Achilleus didn't reply, his eyes focused on the wolves themselves, there was a faraway, glazed look in his eyes.
Freak and Deake joked behind the leading wolves. ' Achilleus is a prick isn't he? ' Freak laughed. Deake nodded.
' Yeah. He is. '

Kenna looked at them. She frowned when she saw the mark forming on Grenade's muzzle, but made no comment about it.
Shields shifted Ferrin on his back again. "Well, here we are."
Galenia lifted her head, two tails swirling around as she howled, before bounding forward into the clearing, half-dragging Shields with Ferrin after her.
Kenna sighed. "Alright, guys. Come on."
Trea looked at them as they took their seats. "So, I hear you brought an audience. Galenia, see to the wolf Shields brought back. In the meantime, Kenna, Cesar and I will hear these wolves out." She nodded to them as if to say "go on."

The pack padded In, Achilleus and Difference at the front, their heads bowed in respect, Grenade in the Middle, his eyes alert, and Freak, Deak and Kid, at the back.
Difference smiled at Trea. He assumed she was the tribe leader, and began to speak. ' Greetings, from national tribe. We bring a warning to your tribe. I assume you do not know what's going on outside the border, but other wolves are experiencing his danger at its full force. You see, trees are disappearing, and machines echo defeating roars across the border. Some unknown being is advancing on us, and we are loosing pieces of land every day. Most wolves evacuated out of range of the machines, however our tribe gathered other wolves who didn't know what was going on, and we grew stronger, together. National tribe is full of wolves from everywhere, different countries and such. We rescued most of the wolves, and now, some of us set out to scout for those who seek help as well. '

Is it bad how I've literally just realised that you may be referring to deforestation? xD

Trea raised an eyebrow. "I see no reason why we should accompany you."
"Trea, if I may." Galenia stepped forwards. "There are wolves in that pack who could help us with our way of life, and they may well extend our options. There's a lower risk of dying there, as there is larger strength in numbers. And the wolves there will be able to help us. They're smart."
Trea raised an eyebrow. "I see. Anyone else?"
Shields stepped forward. "The strength of these wolves could rival our own. However, our powers remain our own and unrivalled."
"I also believe that we have relatives in the main pack. Other escapees from our individual packs that may be useful. It would be more beneficial for us, as opposed to staying in this small pack. We could still stay in this small group, of course."
Trea nodded, considering. She turned to Cesar.
The male looked at her for a while, before he nodded.
Trea turned back to the other wolves and nodded, standing up. "Very well." she said. "Let's go see the pack."

Difference nodded. ' Well, that's great... ' He trailed off, before Achilleus stepped forward, his cold and steely gaze settling on Trea. His green eyes were narrowed and sharp.
' We leave at dawn. There's a lot of potential dangers in the dark and it's better if we're rested up and ready to go in the morning, because its a long journey ahead. ' He turned to the opposite tribe, his stance and his body language both intimidating and challenging.
' In the mean time, we can get to know each other. ' Achileus said the statement ' get to know each other ' in a sarcastic tone.
Grenade seemed to notice the tension in the air as Achilleus stepped forward and filled in the silence. ' Well mates, this is Akkie over here, and I'm Grenade. Our boss is called... '
He paused, remembering the scene moments before they arrived at the tribe, before shaking his head.
' Difference, the funny talking wolf is called Kid... '
' Oy! Watch your hooter! ' Kid called from behind, Grenade chose to ignore Kid, and carried on. ' And the identical wolves at the back are Freak and Deak. '

Kona woke alone in the dark, the autumn leaves shielding her from view as she rose uncertainly to her paws in the makeshift den.
"Ferrin?" she whispered, her bright eyes widening as she scanned the hideaway and realised her companion was nowhere to be seen. Poking her nose up warily through the blanket of leaves, she shook them from her pelt and left the den, crouched and ready to spring back into hiding should the need arise. She looked left and right.
"Ferrin?"
Trees watched her on all sides, drawing back slightly as they always did. She was lucky that the tree she'd slumbered under hadn't pushed her away with its branches while she slept - her curse made most of nature instantly fearful. Ferrin was the only one who saw past it. And he wasn't here.
"Ferrin!" she called, panic rising in her throat. He wouldn't have abandoned her, would he? Kona bit her lip anxiously. What now?

Ferrin came around with a groan, recognising instantly that he must have fallen unconscious due to the intense Reaching session he had performed. His eyes took a moment to adjust to where he was, but as soon as he realised he wasn't by the den, a wave of panic slammed against him. A shudder rattled through his bones. Kona wasn't here. Kona was out there in the den by herself, perhaps sleeping, perhaps awake and searching frenziedly for him.
I can't just leave, he thought, drumming his claws against the ground but trying to keep his expression placid. I have to keep her safe, and so I can't let them know she exists. But she's alone. She'll be panicking. What can I do?

"Ah! You're awake!" Galenia grinned. "That's good. Your friend's fine, by the way, but we didn't try to disturb her just to be on the safe side. Sorry, I would have treated you there and then left you back at the den, but we got confronted by members of another pack who asked with an audience with our leader, so we had to leave quickly. She's safe, though, I made sure the others didn't sense her presence. The main thing is, you're awake. How are you feeling?"

Trea nodded. "Very well."
Kenna nodded. "I'm Kenna, fastest runner in existence. This is Agro, and Tibald. Agro's the lighter one. They're not related, but they've developed such a close bond they might as well be the reincarnations of Dark Night and Black Dawn, the twins. Both of them are good at fighting, Agro being the second best, in fact, but Tibald's the best leader in a tight spot. Up there is Trea, our leader. She is descended from Dark Night, and nobody matches her in a fight. Next to her is Cesar, her mate. He can calm anyone down no matter how worked up or panicky there are, which has gotten us out of a tight spot many times before. He can also sense things that other wolves can't, and read minds to an extent. So basically, he's our emotion guy. That's Damon. He can crystallise his fur in any given place to take and block hits without getting hurt. The orange two-tailed wolf you were talking to earlier is Galenia. She's our strategist. She knows just about everything there is to know. She's programmed the wolf robots you see over there."
Agro and Warrior grinned at the way they'd been described.
Damon dipped his head. "It's nice to finally be introduced."
Cesar nodded. "Welcome to the pack."

Achilleus shook his head in a look of disgust. He always seemed to have a permanent scowl on his face.
Difference watched them all, trying to work out weaknesses.
His sharp eyes scanning along the crowd. A couple of the wolves seemed a little too big headed, he thought. That could be a weakness. They'd be too confident in themselves when they met the other wolves back at the base. But soon they'd be grinded down and soon they'd know their place.
Grenade grinned, waving a friendly paw to all of them.
' It's great to meet you all, mates! ' He laughed, trotting happily over to the group and mixing with them.
Freak and Deake loomed at the back, sniggering to themselves privately. ' Pfff they sound like a bunch of airheads, ' Freak snickered. '
Deake frowned. ' Well, they said they are the elite team Freak. I'm sure they can back up their bragging with some skill. '
Deake reasoned quietly, his voice hushed.
' They ain't got no skill compared to the wolves back home. '

Kid walked forward and leaned on Freak on Deake.
' Boys, this mission was as easy as milk. '
Freak raised an eyebrow. ' Milk? '

Achilleus turned to Difference, his eyes narrowed. ' They ain't got nothing on the boys back home. They ain't even much good to us. ' He snarled.
Difference growled defensively. ' Yes, but don't you realise? ' His tone was hushed and full of venom. ' The more wolves we have, the more power we get. '
' Fuck you. We're just the scouting team. '

"Thanks," Ferrin whispered to Galenia. She seemed smart, and her eyes were simmering with friendliness. "As long as you don't tell anybody else about her - in fact, I really should go back to her. She gets... restless when she's panicked." Concealing his real worried emotions, Ferrin saw a desperate Kona in his mind's eye working herself up to the extent that her curse burst through. He couldn't bear the thought of her suffering the agonising changes alone.
"Do you think I'll be able to sneak out? Will you help me?"

Kona's brow was creased in sadness, worry and panic. She was sat outside the den in a pile of leaves, her golden irises scanning the forest. As her anxiousness intensified, she felt her curse shift within her. She would hate to change here, all alone in the darkening night. To become a monster. An outcast.
"Ferrin," she muttered, despairing. She wanted to search for him, but the gloom was descending on the woodland fast, and she didn't know which way to go.

Kenna padded over to Grenade. "I never got to ask what pack you were from." she said with a slight snicker.
Tibald regarded them with a wary eye. "Agro, they don't approve of us."
Agro nodded. "I can see that."

Galenia nodded. "Of course I can. I know this forest like the back of my oaw, including all the hidden routes to get you back."

"Thank you," smiled Ferrin - he felt almost embarrassed that his extensive intelligence did not cover this part of the forest. By Galenia's shoulder, he felt a little stupid. Brushing it off, he turned his sharp mind to Kona, his best friend. "We'll have to hurry."
Kona squeezed her eyes shut, plagued by negative thoughts that Ferrin had purposely left her behind, perhaps concealing his true hatred for her behind his calm, collected exterior. The curse laid on her as a pup by the demons was waking with her panic, and she hated herself for it. Without Ferrin there to keep her flighty mind stable, she would rapidly spiral downwards into a pit of depression and self-hatred because of her burden. She stood. Observed the now-dark wood. Wondered which way her best friend had gone, and if he ever meant to return for her. A strong young brain was hidden beneath Kona's copper pelt, and she was brave, too.
Perhaps I should just head out and try my luck looking for him, she thought.

Galenia nodded, standing up. "Right. This way."

Achilleus padded forward, towards Trea, his body language showing no inch of respect. ' What kind of thing have you got going on here? ' He asked, feigning interest. He was cold and unfeeling, the scar running down his eye and muzzle intensifying, contrasting with his current emotion.
Grenade smiled. ' Wasn't really part of a tribe mate. I was part of this edgy wolf business in Duluth once though. That was a fun gig. Until I found myself here, with these bastards. '
Difference stayed quiet, his ears swivelling to match the noises around him. He heard Argos comment and stiffened slightly. He didn't want them to think they were bad, not yet anyway. They had to be more friendly, he thought.

He whispered to Freak and Deake and they both nodded. He sent them towards the two suspicious wolves. They both looked rather intimidating, shoulder to shoulder with neutral expressions. It made them look angry, and ready to fight. Deak's glare was fixed on Argo, and Freak was concentrating on another wolf near by.
Deake walked over to them, brushing past Freak. In all honesty, Deake didn't really want to talk to Argo. But what the boss said was an order. And defying orders meant punishment. And punishment meant pain. ' Hello, ' Freak said in a bored, flat, deflated tone. Deake tried to be a little more cheery, waving slightly. At least he was making an effort, right?

Agro nodded, smiling. "Hello. I see you're not very fond of socialising with strange wolves."
Tibald sighed. "Don't worry, you're not the only pair who don't want to socialise with a strange pack so randomly."

Trea regarded him with the same emotionless stare she always bore. "Elite wolves with their own individual powers are gathered here in a small tribe to survive. I individually recruited each one of them, barring Tibald, of course, who's grown up with me, so he's not the best one, but he proves his worth. We may not be the best, but we're certainly up there. I deliberately kept the clan small so as to keep losses to a minimum, and make it easier to keep track of all the pack members."

Freak narrowed his eyes. ' Yeah. Us wolves don't need other powerless gits. ' Deake frowned at Freak. ' Uh, yeah. It was boss' decision... ' He said quickly, regarding Freak with a quick stare and a nudge.
Freak glared at Deake. He wanted to pick some sort of a fight, because he hated the two already.
' Nothing on the boys back home... ' He murmured quietly.
' Buncha air heads... ' He added roughly.

Achilleus let out a low chuckle. ' You must think well of your tribe Hm? ' He laughed in a mocking tone.

Deake thumped Freak over the head with a powerful and large paw. ' Sorry about him. He's just grumpy today. '
Freak sighed and rubbed the back of his head slightly.
Deake rocked back and forth on his heels. ' Soooo... We're the two bickering goons, ' He motioned to Achilleus,
' He'd the cold, emotionless one, ' Freak pointed at Grenade
' He's the organiser, and he's a right laugh, and last but not least, thats our boss. ' Deake pointed at Difference who was standing in the background, near Trea and Achilleus.
' Oh, and wait, that's the funny talking wolf. ' Freak chuckled slightly, feeling a little more comfortable with the wolves.

"I do know each of them personally, and I was impressed by each of their skills, so that was why I recruited them. It's only natural I would think of them highly." she said. "And they refer to me as their leader, but I don't think it's quite so. Instead, we try to treat each other like a family of wolves rather than a simple pack with a hierarchy. There's no particular order to things."

Agro chuckled. "This here's the newbie, so to speak." he said, nudging Tibald, who growled. "He's pretty much your average wolf until you put him in a situation where everyone else panics. Damon over there likes to brag, although not so much now that he's finally got the wolf he wanted, Galenia. She's the nice one who gets along with most people, but she's a lot more cunning than she lets on. She knows the forest better than anyone, so we go to her for plans. Trea's the cold and emotionless one, but she does occasionally let her emotions show and she cares for all of us. Cesar, well, he's your average wolf again. Except when he doesn't like you. Then he's mean."
"And Agro here is the nice one who always tries to make the new wolves feel welcome." Tibald added, chuckling. He was beginning to warm to these wolves who seemed to have wanted a fight not too long ago. It seemed talking calmed things down.
