Quest Online Description/Character Sheets (Sword Art Online Inspired RP)

Re: Sword Art Online Inspired RP (Interest Check Not Detailed)

Easy. I don't have to let them all get in a circle with me in the middle. I can move while I cut them down. If you don't believe me, try it. You won't even land a scratch. The potion making thing seems fine though it'll have to be pretty GM decided how good the grade of the potion is and whatnot. That's something that can't really be avoided as long as there's a potion system at all.

Re: Sword Art Online Inspired RP (Interest Check Not Detailed)

Merph. I must admit, I'm not a fan of writing fight scenes or battle-based roleplays, which this seeming to be. x3 Ah well, I'll learn and/or be vague like I usually am with them. I'm also rather the class/ play style I was looking for was cut out (I mean, I like ranged weapons and understand how to not powerplay and whatnot), but I suppose I'll find another class for the character I had in mind...somehow. Or, I could just ditch my PKKer idea and go for complete support...or a tank.

Re: Sword Art Online Inspired RP (Interest Check Not Detailed)

Alrighty, Well i just adapted it so that theres no leveling, no stats, no Game based skills. You rely on your power alone, and whatever equipment you have. There are ranks. but ill be the one that decides when those happen it will be after I see you rping a lot with your weapon, or cooking or whatever have you. So thats all fixed up.

I am going to give other people time to look this whole thing over and whats been said. So I hope no one is in a rush but I want to have many peoples opinions on everything that way I can settle it all in the next revision of the write up. So sit tight people and suscribe to the thread if you haven't Ill be posting questions I come up with as I have them. thanks to those that have been helping me with this.

Fun~ I am sorry about the loss of the Archery class, but we had to do so just because you would know how to play it right, doesn't mean everyone will, so this was the best I could do regarding that. If you're interested in Ninja, or assassin like roles, perhaps take up the Whisper class and use the Thorwing knives or stars. something like that maybe. Just a suggestion.

Re: Sword Art Online Inspired RP (Interest Check Not Detailed)

Goody. I'll give it a peek over. Or I guess I will when you edit since the last edit was 3 hours ago.

The archery thing was a sad necessity. I like the idea of archers too but it is more for the other players than the archer himself and even more than that for the GM's own sanity. No one likes playing middle man and an archer either requires a vast amount of middle manning from the GM or all players that interact with the archer being completely in sync. In experience, that doesn't happen as often as one would like.

Re: Sword Art Online Inspired RP (Interest Check Not Detailed)

It hasn't started so of course it isn't too late.

How are you planning on having the inventory system work? Will it be an actual bag or will it be some kind of condensed storage? I ask because of the matter of carrying extra gear as well as housing drops that you might pick up.

Re: Sword Art Online Inspired RP (Interest Check Not Detailed)

I think it would be reasonable to do the Skyrim weight based inventory. (Doing grid will be hellish because then I would need to see how much grid space each item takes up rather than giving the items a weight.) Weight it is I think. We will say that the character can carry up to 300 Lbs in their pack. (Unrealistic yes, but its an MMO.. so.. ) Ill just have to end up making some chart for weapon weights and what not, prolly need to work out a currency type system as well. Thats what I am thinking though far as Inventory. What do you think?

Angel~ Not too late dear, please go to the first page and read the new write up for this if you would and add any feed back you can give me. It would be very appreciated. =)

Re: Sword Art Online Inspired RP (Interest Check Not Detailed)

Seems fine as long as you have an idea for how you want to do it and have thought it through. Only you know how much loot is going to drop and how much non personal storage we will have or need. Oh yeah. One other thing you may want to work out is what the benefit there is to the PKers. There's always a few of those so what they get out of it and the exact rules would be good.

Re: Sword Art Online Inspired RP (Interest Check Not Detailed)

I was Kind of thinking about that as well. Perhaps Pkers can scavenge inventory and take one item of those they kill? That gives the idea of greed driving them within the game. "Oh hey look that guy has a bad ass sword, lets kill him!" ~Attacks and kills the guy~ "Shit he has this cool set of armor too. We can only take one!" something like that I think would be effective.

Rules Outside of the Safe Zones anyone can attack anyone. Groups of people can attack people. This will inspire Pk groups and what not.

Im not sure exactly what else you meant by rules though.

Re: Sword Art Online Inspired RP (Interest Check Not Detailed)

I'll just answer that with a set of questions.

Who is considered the PKer, the person who deals the first hit, the one who deals the last hit, or everyone who ever dealt a hit?

Is it only the killer who can loot or everyone in the vicinity?

Can loot be taken if a person dies through non-PK means?

Does the corpse stay or does the person disappear shortly after death?

Are inventories checkable by others or only their equipped gear?

Re: Sword Art Online Inspired RP (Interest Check Not Detailed)

Who is considered the PKer, the person who deals the first hit, the one who deals the last hit, or everyone who ever dealt a hit?~ The Pker would be the one that landed the killing blow, he will be the one allowed to loot.

Is it only the killer who can loot or everyone in the vicinity?~ only the killer

Can loot be taken if a person dies through non-PK means?~ No, its a reward for defeating other players.

Does the corpse stay or does the person disappear shortly after death?~ The player disappears instantly after death, but for a Pker their inventory is open to them for its full extent. (Cannot take Items stored at a house) They can pick a single item to take for their victory.

Are inventories checkable by others or only their equipped gear?~ Inventories are Checkable if permission is given between two players, and to Pkers after they have killed their prey.

I think that covers it.

Re: Sword Art Online Inspired RP (Interest Check Not Detailed)

Seems so. Just proves my theory on the "right way to PK" more and more.

Re: Sword Art Online Inspired RP (Interest Check Not Detailed)

However we have not forgotten other essential players in the game, the non-combatants of course. The game has your class choice, and weapon; then it also has the option after you do your beginning quests (Basically the tutorial) Once the Beginner quest is completed you are allowed to pick one Life skill from the choices listed. Such as; Potion making, Armor Smithing, Clothe making, Cooking, Mineral Gathering, Herbalism, Weapon smithing, Composing (Music Scrolls), Music Playing, Medic/Healing, Pet Taming, and Enchanting. Then a final life skill at level ten. You can work these up from rank F-A which will determine just how good you are at what you do, and what you can create or tame or whatever the circumstance. It is a very helpful support role for those that do not wish to risky their lives on the actual battlefield. Of course it is a choice, if you choose to go this route then you will be spending skill points you had available into leveling up these skills rather than fight skills. This is designed so that there are fighters, and then supporters everyone is doing their part in this grand journey.

Now I'm a tad bit curious about how these life skills are going to work. Based on the write up, it seems that fighters can't really be good at life skills...which seems odd, given how MMOs usually work, but I can roll with it. I'm also confused as to the difference (and utility) of composing and playing music. Are they like bards in DnD, for example? Or is it purely aesthetic (or perhaps even for morale boosting)? Also, I find it somewhat odd that weapon smithing and armor smithing are separate skills. And is the medic/ healing skill like magic? And what do clothes do in the game? Is it purely aesthetic or can it function as armor?

Re: Sword Art Online Inspired RP (Interest Check Not Detailed)

And since we're gonna make it realistic like: Can we have also height and Weight into a character? (Inventory not included, as it's a bottomless pocket)

And Also How will maiming work. If I cut off someone's arm, will the arm get cut off? And will a Maimed victim ever have a chance to have his arm back?

How about Vitals and Deeeecaapitation, Headshots (Yes, stabs can do that), And Any other forms of brutal maiming?

Re: Sword Art Online Inspired RP (Interest Check Not Detailed)

You guys might hate me for this, but with it being an MMO, it wont be super realistic in regards to Maiming, you get hit it does its damage you are going to be in problems until you heal but its not going to take your arm. If I did it so that it takes your arm or whatever then honestly anyone who gets hit in the arm AT ALL is fairly screwed. THE DOWNSIDE, which I am still figuring out entirely, is without that, and blood and all that how do we figure out when a character is dead? So that is where Im at as far as Maiming and those such things. Please if you have an idea shoot it at me, im trying to work it out but its a difficult hump to be jumping I suppose.

height and Weight, sure I think that will be fine to add to the character sheet Ill do in just a few. it would only decide what your build looks like. I would guess.

Fun~

Honestly Composing Music is for those that just want to play bards. theres no magic boost with it or anything, its like hey Im a musician in rl, I want to write music and support the fighters or just play music on the streets and earn gold by doing so. something like that. Medic will be like you have to run over to someone injured with your medic skill and then you can heal them it is the only "Magic" base type but it is NOT long range. you have to get close to use it, like touching them close.

Weapon and Armor Smithing~ I separated those so not everyone is doing everything. Consider this.. Alright your a great weapon Smith, and Armor smith, but that means you sacrificed Mineral gathering, which means you now suck at getting the material you need to do what you want. the system is designed to give everyone something they can do without a lot of people doing the exact same thing. for those players that don't like fighting heres what you can do. you can be a Medic, or a Armor Smith, then your friend can be a Weapon smith, Now you are starting your own shop with said friend. ya know? its built to force some level of interaction.

As for the reason you really can't be a fighter and life skills specialist. UNLESS you have been playing the game for longer than anyone else, it would be impossible. Consider that the way you rank up is by spending time at doing something. If you spend time doing cooking or whatever, you are not spending that time training your weapon level right? its a common sense rule. You could even them out of course, if you desire, but you will not be as prominently KNOWN at least with a weapon as the guy who is constantly using his weapon and training it and not focusing on life skills. its built that way to make jobs and roles differentiate without someone being some god hybrid that can do everything like expertly. ya know?

Is there any other questions?

Re: Sword Art Online Inspired RP (Interest Check Not Detailed)

I was going to suggest Medicine, prosthetic, and Lost body parts as official Items. As, the true question is: How are Damgage will even be regulated. No stats meant No Hp, you know.

Re: Sword Art Online Inspired RP (Interest Check Not Detailed)

Yes I realize that, So maybe they can restore their body parts back in town perhaps. We will have blood loss and stuff. it will be the same as a Normal human if you get critical blows you are going to die of course. Unless a medic takes care of you before hand or you drink a potion which I think we might have that act as medicine certain potions restore certain limbs perhaps or full restore potions restore full body and you are good again. Something like that perhaps.

Re: Sword Art Online Inspired RP (Interest Check Not Detailed)

Easy. Characters die when I put a sword through their hearts or skulls. I can easily create kill conditions for a character but the gray area is still there. Things like death by blood loss and whatnot aren't clear but you'll have to address what happens when someone does something like swing hard enough to take a dude's arm off.

Seems reasonable if you want to just increase the healing parameters. So will cut off limbs disappear or stay?

Re: Sword Art Online Inspired RP (Interest Check Not Detailed)

I think Ill have limbs disappear weapons remain. IE: If a weapon is on the hand that gets cut off it drops, but the hand will disappear. Until you drink a potion for healing arm or whatever, or a medic heals you.. you could still pick up the sword with your other hand or feet if your that awesome, but you won't have your arm back unless you pot it up, get healed, or return to town npc healer. Thats what I think.
