Re: Sword Art Online Inspired RP (Interest Check Not Detailed)
Tensa Hiruma: I beg to differ on a number of counts, since I like to understand the rationale behind decisions. And note, I am
well aware that there is no magic in
this game, yet that point does not invalidate what I my example demonstrated--situations where the skill and coordination of the player (and to a certain extent, limitations like levels and equipment) make the difference in combat. Also, the 'weak device' comment was pointing out the blatant forced interaction between players and even NPCs. Few other roleplays I have been in require such limitations from a GM. I have always been under the impression that the point of roleplaying was to interact with others; of course, I could be wrong.
Wolfsin: My point about the NPCs was not geared towards shopkeepers, but instead, the myriad of players stuck in the game along with those of us who are in this roleplay...or is the game world limited to the...what? Six of us who are going to be in this roleplay? I
realize the implications of killing someone in a game where they die in real life--note that in
Sword Art Online . That's an interesting point I want to explore with my character for this roleplay--the psychological implications of realizing that what an individual did in previous games is no longer a game; that what they once thought about as an inane, humorous role has consequences that forces my character to alter their worldview...or not. It all depends. Nonetheless, I realize that killing the character of someone in the roleplay (such as the character you will make, Wolfsin) is bad and against the rules, but I was under the assumption that was Roleplaying Etiquette 101.
I also generally dislike the assumption that things will be 'cheating the system'...but that's a non-issue, I suppose, since I once again assumed that it was obvious I wouldn't simply roleplay with my own characters. If I wanted to create a story with solely my own creations, I would write another novel rather than roleplay.
I think youw ill fit in very nicely once you get used to everything.
...I think the assumption most people seem to be making about me is that I act like my character...or that the plot points and issues I have are those that my character will have. I really don't get 'what I have to get used to' in any respect other than accepting the fact that this roleplay will have less narration and more dice rolling than I'm used to in a play-by-post roleplay...which is sad, because I have seen many a .hack and SOA and generic MMO roleplay function beautifully without stats and dice rolls and RNGs.
...and as a veteran of many MMOs and RTS and RPGs with co-op elements, I am
well aware of how fame works and how it's a double-edged sword. Of course, that doesn't mean my character will, but... assumptions are usually bad, whether about how a game will function or how players will react.
I think I'm rather tired of this discussion, so this is the time where I'll bow out and wait for the character sheets to be posted, since I have nothing to contribute other than proving how inept I apparently am. x3
