He allowed her to guide him closer, careful to not scare her during her heartfelt confession. She needed to take the lead in the moment, to ensure that she accepted her own feelings without feeling rushed. For a moment, a pang of pain echoed in the samurai's heart as he met her eyes, able to sense all of the tension and strain the day had brought for her. It seemed like every day had taken its toll on her, wearing her down yet somehow also strengthening her to be willing to honestly admit her.

And for some reason, Jack couldn't help but find her to be as beautiful as ever.

"There is no awkwardness in this moment, Zinnia. After asking you to be honest with me, it is not right to reject you when my heart tells me to do differently..."

His hand was gentle as it provided whatever comfort she desired, his thumb wiping away a few spare tears. He cared little if Jude was witness to their interaction, instead only focused upon Zinnia and the moment between them.

"You do not need to worry over losing me, Zinnia, for I feel the same and I do not aim to leave someone so important to me..."

The smile on his lips held nothing but honesty and bliss for his declaration.

No awkwardness in this moment? Maybe for you, but I've just been an emotional mess. Not to mention, I'm not used to talking about how I feel to anyone but myself.

"U-U-Uh, w-well, th-that is," Zinnia blurted, a flustered stutter stumbling thoughtlessly out of her lips. A blush still stained her cheeks. "Are you sure? I-I mean, you are a samurai and usually those types are lone wolves. Not to mention, you still have a job to do..." She stuttered again for a moment, biting her lip afterwards.

She side-glanced toward Jude, feeling a bit better when he scramed.

That's right, go away! :P

She glanced back at Jack, a nervous smile on her lips. "Sorry, it's just I'm not used to something like this. It's been a looooong time, trust me."

She sighed. "And I know this isn't the best place for... this. People are still dying all around us." Zinnia closed her eyes, liking the feeling of his hand touching her face. "But now you know how much it means to me that you make it out of here alive with me, so let's escape this mess together... if that's what you want. Aster is waiting for her parents," she said, throwing a light tease into her last sentence.

"Anyhow, I'd do more to help the others with their investigation, but..." A weak laugh came from her lips. "I'm soooooo tired from literally everything. I don't think I can walk out of this hospital room without passing out. Do you want to stay here with me?" she asked, reaching up to rub one of her eyes.

"The path of the wolf was abandoned when I first asked you to join me... And I'm glad to leave such a path if it means you and I are able to be together."

As Jude left, he shook his head as Zinnia reminded him of Aku, a sigh escaping him, "My duty to smite Aku... I do so not only for my family and our honor, but for the good of all humanity... If I suppress my desires, my emotions in pursuit of my duty, then I betray the purpose of my task."

"And yes... Let us find Aster together," A soft chuckle escaped his own throat as Zinnia began to act as though she was about to fall asleep, "But after you rest awhile. I will stay as long as you wish."

"You'd give that up for me, huh?" Zinnia asked, gently taking his hand off her face--continuing to hold onto it afterwards. "I think you're crazy for pursing someone like me, but, on the other hand, I feel so happy about it that it's hard to even breath," she said, a genuine smile spreading on her lips. She felt guilty about her flicker of happiness, knowing that the others around them right now were still suffering. Still, she hadn't been happy since she woke up on that stupid bus, so maybe she deserved it.

"I'm glad, as long as you don't think I'll get in your way or distract you from Aku. I know how important your mission is to you. It's not my desire to stand in the way of it," she told him, softly trailing a thumb over his hand she was holding. "But I like being with you, so I'll try my best never to get in your way."

Zinnia slumped to one side and leaned her head against Jack's arm, her eyes still closed. "Stay as long as I wish? You're stuck with me forever then," she said, her voice sounding even a bit more tired and raspy than before.

Holder gave Poison a look as if to imply he had been rhetorical. He turned to Nono and nodded with her assessment on the bras and even somehow seemed to understand what she was getting at, even the shoujo manga stuff. "That's right, lil' detective, our boy was likely gettin' a little somethin' somethin' from our MIAs."

Holder then moved to grab the matchbook from Stiles with a, "I'm gonna need this." He then pointed to the waitress outfit. "Seems Anna worked at the Oh Deer Diner, but also visited the Three Eyed Jack's Casino on the side. A girl like her, student debts, hm..." The detective shrugged. "Probably should get out of here, you think? Check out that murder of yours."

"Uh..." Jude decided not to respond at first as he silently tended to the rest of Kyoko's wounds. There was no need to make a medical procedure awkward. Considering her wounds, it wasn't long before Jude was finished. He lingered for a moment, considering what to say. "... Maybe we should get back to the investigation. I'm sure you have your reasons for keeping secrets. Not sure I could blame anyone acting odd in a situation like this one."

Having all they could gather from the missing girl's room, Honda went back to the investigation. As he did, he noticed Jack Frost looking at some books. "Ritualistic sacrifice, huh? Talk about creepy! Is there some symbol or something in there that matches the markings under the body?" Evil and spooky as it seemed, maybe there'd be a clue to the culprit that way...

Some further examining would show that the symbol had a connection to Satanism, though it contained a few inconsistencies. Whether that was due to the paint being ruined by blood or the painter making a mistake is unclear.

"Looks like spray paint," Holder said idly.

Jack Frost frowned, so it seemed that someone might have been trying to undergo some sort of ritual? Hmm... If that was the case, then they must not have had the time to go through with it all the way, right? In either case, he stopped, cocking his head to one side.

"Hey... Do you know where someone could get a can of spraypaint?" He asked.

The killer had to have painted that symbol somehow, and naturally, they might have stolen some spraypaint from somewhere, or someone in order to do this...

Finally done cleaning his armour up, and examining the small scratch that now adorned his chestpiece, Darv had moved to investigate the body. He was not wounded, thankfully, and he had little to contribute medically. He was sure people had the patients under control well enough that he wasn't required to pull out splinters or patch up cuts.
"Let's see." Darv murmurs, stooping to examine them a little closer himself "These ones look a little off, but they're also not very familiar to me." Standing back up, he shrugs slightly, offering the small girl little in the way of confirmation of denial. He knew better than to tell her he believed the runes were intended to have some effect, but were performed by an amateur "Don't worry, young one. I'm sure they are just meant to look scary. They do not seem to be doing anything, or to have done anything. I'm sure whoever drew these was just trying to make them look scary. I am sure there is no magic in them"

Tomoko wasn't sure what to do, it appeared that a large group were going to investigate something, but she wasn't sure what. She looked around to see if she could find Corrin, but she couldn't.

Shrugging to herself, Tomoko plopped down in the middle of the floor, nothing she could really do right now, might as well kick back and relax until the trial started

The cyborg blinked in surprise before answering as Tommy began to weep on him. He had not spoken to the boy, but it was clear he was distressed. Genji felt his heart ache again, this time for Tommy. He pulled the younger man into a hug, just letting him cry on him. "Hush now. Stop your crying, nakama. It will be alright. You didn't mean to. You couldn't have done anything to prevent this." The cyborg took on something of a fatherly tone as he attempted to steady the boy.
Tommy continued to sob and sob, or at least until Genji finished speaking. Breaking off the hug, Tommy wiped at his eye which had developed into a black eye at this point. "...That's where you're wrong. I could have stopped Jason. I could have stopped Jason and nobody would have wanted to copy him! I should have finished the goddamn job!" Tommy snapped as he turned away and glanced at the bloodied machete as he stepped forward and picked it up as he looked it over. "This isn't Jason's machete. I know he wouldn't have left it off his person and he certainly wouldn't have had wanted me to have it."

But then it didn't make any sense to the teenager. How had he ended up with a machete??

"The last thing I recall is Jason attacking me and everything went black. I..I was trying to warn you guys but he caught up to me. If only I'd been stronger, if only I had killed that rotting son of a bitch!"

Her eyes immediately darting towards where she heard two voices nearest to her, her vision piercing through Herbert the most as she listened to his words. It was like the guy didn't give a single shit when it came to someone mourning a terrible loss. Knowing that she was under the vision of others once more, Lapis ceased her tears, wiping her face with her sleeve as she worked up a vocal response.

"Oh, I know... been through this one too many fucking times."

A weak laugh, probably at her own disposition, came with her words. She was well aware that Catbug wasn't the only friend she had lost, and that she had lost more than just friends along the way. She witnessed the public execution of a close friend. She was forced to kill her own brother with her own two hands. It hurt...

Slowly getting up on her feet, Lapis had a distant look on her face as she felt the dread settle inside her.

"Guess I grow attached to people when I don't want to... but I keep forgetting that playing hard to get just ends up with people getting friendly with me... and then the inevitable happens. People get hurt... people get corrupted... people get killed. All because they have connections with me. Even if I only distance myself from others to prevent that ... I also don't want to have the feeling of guilt lingering on my tongue..."

She stopped herself, thinking that she was rambling about her life problems when she was aware that these two wouldn't even understand what she was getting at. Though, she rose an eyebrow at Herbert's latest statement.

"Someone in need..."

Lapis stopped thinking at that moment, and just stared at Herbert.

"Wait... don't tell me you're going to offer some help? Even after the bullshit I put you through before that fight broke out? Like... are... are you really sure? If... that's what you're implying."
reanimator1.jpg

Both Dan and Herbert were taken aback by Lapis's rambling though for different reasons. Whereas Dan felt genuine sympathy for the rough life that this girl had apparently lead, Herbert couldn't have cared less. He hadn't approached her wanting to hear a sob story of some kind. If he had wanted that then he would have damn well asked for it. Holding up a hand to cut Lapis off before she went further, Herbert began to speak.

"Please. Spare me any more of your grueling anecdotes. Yes, yes I'm sure your life has been full of twists and turns. Many of which have negatively impacted you. But if I'd cared to hear them then the logical assumption would be that I'd ask to hear them wouldn't it? I haven't done that, now have I?"

Before Herbert could continue chiding Lapis, Dan roughly pulled on his shoulder again.

"What is it now, Dan!?"

"Don't you have a single shred of goddamn human decency?!"

"Humans are complicated creatures with plenty of faults. Getting too caught up in sympathy results in coddling. Which is not something I'd care to shift through when trying to discuss something. If you don't agree with that, Dan? Perhaps you should go take a look at the body?" Herbert mused as Dan shot Lapis a sympathetic look before making his way off towards Roy's body.

Watching his partner finally get out of his hair, Herbert cleared his throat and turned towards Lapis as he reached out to gently pet Catbug's head. Though the look on Herbert's face made it quite clear that the idea of touching Catbug-whether he was alive OR dead-would have disgusted him just as much.

"Don't interpret my actions as doing this out of the kindness of my heart. If anything I'm quite annoyed that goliath we faced earlier got away. Would have been quite a number of things I could have gathered from his corpse. But I see an opportunity here that'll benefit both of us. I get the chance to study a creature the likes of which I've never seen before? You get your friend and pet back. Though truth be told, I don't quite care either way what you choose to do. Whether the creature rots or lives is up to you." Herbert admitted coldly as he turned to walk away.

Pausing in his walk, he'd kneel down and grabbed what remained of Sir Jeffers. Tossing it casually over his shoulder, Lapis could have seen that it'd been snapped in two and one of the eyes was missing.

"I believe that belongs to the pet. Or used to belong to it anyway..."

Continued from here.

Holder seemed to consider these suggestions, but really, who could say where the spray paint came from? The real question was where it had gone, which Holder doubted the killer would keep it on their person. Moving away from the conversation, the detective found a trash bin by the exit of the library. He looked through it haphazardly for a moment, but ended up with nothing for his efforts. "Come on, you," he muttered, looking around himself. So the killer had sense not to dump the paint in the garbage, but that didn't mean it was going to be hard to find. There was no time to leave the library from making the symbol until the others had arrived, meaning...

Holder nodded, walking over to a nearby bookcase. He ran his hand along the spines of the books as he passed them, stopping once he found one sticking out oddly. Morse subtle than the mess the killer had left with the ritual books, but just enough askew to be suspicious. He pulled out the books, looking behind them to find the item he sought. "Bingo." It was with grin that Holder took hold of the spray paint can, just in time for an announcement to echo across the campus.

"Talk about fright night! You guys ready for a chilling class trial? Forensics team and guests, please come to the morgue!"

***

The guests this time around heading on in to the morgue after the group were the detective, Stephen Holder, as well as Herbert West, his assistant Dan, Doc Hayward, and two attending for a second time now, Bullet and Tommy. Both Bullet and Tommy had been cleaned up since they had been encountered in the library, though Tommy still looked terrible. Jefferson's body had been removed from the room, leaving empty space for the eventual podiums.

Once everyone had arrived, the ground began to rumble as it smoothly gave way in the shape of a circle. Rising up from the hole was the familiar ring of podiums rose from ground, just enough for everyone present. Monokuma hopped on to a nearby medical examiner's table on wheels and lounged on it lazily.

EbCBGBc.png

Monokuma yawned as he looked upon the newcomers. "So I guess I have to explain it again, huh? You're here because you are suspected in murdering someone! Everyone will tear at each other to determine who did the slaying, while the one who really did do it tries to confuse everyone else! If the majority votes for the wrong person... well, consider that a win! Upupu..."

Holder stared at the podiums like they were eyesores. His eyes moved in a circle, counting all the podiums up.

TeyJM8h.gif

"This is, ah... This is a little much, don't you think, hombre?"

"Don't bother." Bullet shrugged, taking a place next to the detective. She leaned over the front of the podium, looking glum. "Okay... seriously? What the fuck. Why am I here a second time? I'm not a killer, fuck."

"Then I guess you're just naturally in the wrong place at the wrong time?" Victoria said, shooting Bullet a glare from across the ring. She hadn't forgotten the harsh words shared between Bullet and herself the day before. "By the way, are you guys going to yell at me if I accuse Tommy again?"

"Let's just give it time," Jude said, trying to sound reassuring. "At least we have more evidence this time than last... I think."

SOgCdak.png

"No complaining now! The clues are just right-- not too hot and not too cold!" Monokuma seemed to be shivering with anticipation. "But this morgue... Brr! Isn't it chilling? Think about all the dead bodies that passed through here... how do you think they died? Stabbing? Disease? Drowning? Burned alive? Asphyxiation? The possibilities are tantalizing!"

"U-Uhh..." Jude slowly raised a hand. "I was wondering... what do you do with the bodies for these trials?"

Monokuma looked to Jude, tilting his head to the side slightly. There was silence for a few moments, until Monokuma lifted his arms into the air.

"It's time to start the trial!"

"W-What?!"

Case #2: Roy Burns
During the previous trial, Victoria and the principal, Sigma Klim, came under suspicion for having positive connections to Mark Jefferson. As Max had died just before she could relay info about Jefferson to the group, this was seen as the motive for her murder. Bullet tried to hide her previous friendship with Max, but it came out that she used to be Max's friend and was even once in love with her. Bullet held a grudge, which was seen as suspicious, but Klim ended up mixing up his testimony and was voted guilty.

It turned out the group was right, Klim willing to kill to protect the secrets of Jefferson and the school. He had killed Max and attempted to make it seem as if it was suicide, using his influence and resources to assist him. Jude asked Klim what secret he was hiding before he was executed, but Klim took the secret to the grave. McGucket was made the new principal of the school and the group retired to a motel for the night.

In the morning, having arrived to the esteemed Miskatonic University, the group decided to split up to check three separate sections of the school. Namely, the medical wing where the medical students were trying to make a name for themselves, the morgue where Mark Jefferson's body was being examined, and the reception area.

At the reception, the group encountered a detective by the name of Stephen Holder, who revealed that he had been assigned to the missing girls case. They also encountered Bullet again, who explained she had come to the university as one of the missing girls, Anna, went there after graduating from Blackwell.

Having been stalking the group for quite some time, Jason Voorhees had lurked in the shadows while the group had explored Blackwell, choosing to bide his time and wait for a better chance to strike. However, he hadn't been the only one following the group. Tommy Jarvis had decided to keep up with the group as best as he could. Feeling some sense of responsibility for Jason continuing to be around, Tommy wanted to spare the group the agony of another encounter with him and wanted to finish him off himself. After coming face to face with the undead serial killer, this task proved easier said than done for Tommy.

Inside the hospital wing, Zinnia, Jack, and others ran into the duo of Herbert West and Daniel Cain, two medical students who had their own views on the group. Herbert believed them to be government stooges who simply wanted to steal the secrets to his Reagent: a serum that would restore the dead back to life. Dan thought much of the same, but still managed to keep up a much kinder front for Zinnia and Jack in particular.

Lapis Lazuli was far more keen on seeing what West was up to and followed him to the autopsy room. After explaining that she wasn't here to steal his work nor that was she interested in the Reagent, Jason made his move. Having easily disposed of Tommy, Jason stormed in practically unhindered. That was of course until Herbert's cadavers began to rise and attacked the killer. Ripping chunks of his rotten flesh off and devouring it by the handful, Jason disposed of them one by one.

The last undead survived its brief battle with Jason, only to enter into a new one with Zinnia and Jack. The re-animated corpse nearly strangled Zinnia only to be attacked by Jack. Tearing a chunk out of Jack's shoulder, the cadaver resumed its attack on Zinnia. All the while, Jason was struggling to stay on his own two feet as he was set upon by the combined efforts of Lapis, Sledge, and Darv. All of whom wanted Jason dead. Herbert on the other hand saw how strong Jason was and wanted to capture the mass murderer to study him.

It wasn't meant to be however, as upon getting his own machete digging through his skull, Jason ripped it out and took his leave, leaving a knocked out Sledge and an injured Lapis in his wake.

But Jason wasn't the only killer stalking the halls of Miskatonic. Having been on the lamb to escape from the police after barely surviving his battle with Tommy Jarvis, crazed paramedic-turned-serial-killer Roy Burns had tracked down Tommy's last whereabouts to the general area around Miskatonic. He entered the building, ending up attacking those who had checked out the morgue.

Getting a glass mug smashed over his head, getting clawed on his face/ankle, and even suffering a bruised knee, Roy had underestimated those he'd been facing. Ranging from the martial arts expert in Chikage to the illustrious leader Kyoko, the group showed that they were more than a match for the serial killer. Tanking through a cut to the arm and a swift backhand, Kyoko stood her ground and drove off the killer with Doc Hayward, Bullet, and Dan in hot pursuit of him.

In the end both killers had been chased off... but at the loss of Catbug, though it seemed Herbert had plans for him.

The group discovered the dead body of Roy in the library, with it unclear who killed him. The group weren't too keen on solving the murder of a killer, but Monokuma told them that they had no choice. A ritualistic symbol had been found under the body in spray paint, with the body sporting a large number of wounds from both a gun and a bladed weapon.

Unrelated to the murder, Holder let a group investigate Anna's dorm room, discovering that she posed for model shots for an unknown photographer. They also learned that she had worked at the Oh Deer Diner and was a visitor to the Three Eyed Jack's Casino.

With that out of the way, Monokuma called everyone to the morgue for their third trial...

Roy was found in the library, slumped against a bookcase with his mask ripped off and a gash across his forehead. There was also a gunshot wound in his shoulder. A ritualistic symbol was painted below the victim's body. The symbol is Satanic in origin and the symbol was painted with spray paint, found hidden behind a few books in the bookcase.

Tommy was found by the body, hurt, covered in blood, and carrying a machete. Doc Hayward was found with a loaded gun. Bullet was found with blood on her hands.

I think."

"Only if you may present a valid argument that accounts for the victim's gunshot wound and the fact that Tommy seemed to be quite roughed up in the aftermath, almost as if he was framed."

The samurai coolly replied to Victoria before looking over the evidence once again. Out of sight of the others, he gave Zinnia's hand a squeeze before releasing his hold, "As for Tommy... Like I just mentioned, he seems to have been framed. While he was found with the machete, he seemed to have been beaten heavily and in no condition to fight the imposter, let alone kill him. He also was not found with a loaded gun..."

"Unlike Doctor Hayward," Jack's eyes darted to the man, eyeing him with suspicion, "Mister Hayward, did you fire your weapon at all? If so, when and how many times?"

Though the look on Herbert's face made it quite clear that the idea of touching Catbug-whether he was alive OR dead-would have disgusted him just as much.

avatar_60efd27dbc8c_128.png

"..."

Lapis was dead silent as she listened more to what Herbert had to say. If it wasn't for the fact that she was shaken up by this death, she would've gone and punched him square in the face. She didn't do that, however, as she couldn't get the initiative to do that in the first place.

Cradling the dead Catbug in her arms, Lapis remained in silence as she watched Herbert walk off, following with the announcement to meet at the morgue for another class trial... and the broken remains of Sir Jeffers was tossed her way. Her blue eyes fighting the urge of letting out tears again, she stuffed the broken stick into her pockets as she entered the morgue.

Unlike her past attempts to contribute to the trial, Lapis felt no motivation to do so. If anything, she felt no need to try and figure out the culprit here, they got rid of the person responsible for Catbug's death. So really... what can she do?

As much as she thought of moving on from this, Lapis couldn't... Catbug was too young to pass on. Alike to the case of herself, where she would've been dead far too early in her life, then a miracle had granted her many second chances. If only it were that easy to give such miracles, but Lapis knew that those types of miracles wouldn't be happening any time soon.

At this time, she thought back to Herbert's offer. Due to his attitude, the bounty hunter didn't really hold him in high regards in anything, and she would deny the offer just to spite him and his work. However, she was also aware that she would be effectively denying the only possible way of giving Catbug a second chance at life... granted that the process doesn't go horribly wrong.

Ignoring the fact that they were in this trial in progress (which Lapis did not care due to her disliking of Monokuma at this point), Lapis appeared to be done with her mourning, walking over to where Herbert had taken his place by a podium.

"Alright, I... considered that offer you brought up... and even with this trial going on... you can try using that Reagent stuff on Catbug... "
Clearly Lapis was serious about this.

"And if this screws up... you better keep yourself a good distance away from me."

I think."

"A killer kills another killer? Heh, not too long ago that could've been me." Nigel replied aloud. "Do we have what it takes to find whoever did this? Even if they killed someone that was out to get us, they aren't the judge, jury and executioner. That's something no one should have the right to do."

Shuten-Douji chuckled as she took a sip from he sake plate. "A wild beast was taken out to pasture, will we find the culprit and punish them I wonder?"

"I am a suspect?! Ridicules! This whole "Kangaroo court" is absurd! I would never kill a man, especially a clearly mentally ill young man! I took an oath to "do no harm"! I would never murder in cold blood!

As Hayward ranted, Wanda, again, was lost in thought. Turning to Monokuma, Wanda smiled. It was odd. It's like something "clicked" in her head.

"It's going to be over soon, Monokuma. I know you know that. You just to bid our time. I guess trying to gain your bearings back, hmm?

A slight giggle came from the witch's lips. All in all, Wanda seemed different,Wanda held herself, like she was "ahead of the curve".

"Now, about this kill. I'm not sure what to think. Any ideas?"

"And yet you carried a firearm, did you not? If you seek to cause no harm, then why do you carry such a weapon? Even if only in self-defense, it displays some belief in the necessity of harming another to defend yourself."

As Wanda giggled, Jack shook his head as he waited for Hayward to respond, "Not quite yet. Tommy though seems to have been framed as he seems to be too beaten to both fire a weapon and then to chop another in the head with a machete."
