Kyoko Kirigiri - Epilogue Part 2/2: Absolution

Majority ruled that Kyoko Kirigiri be re-instated as a leader of the Coalition.

Even if she had been gone for quite a long time, the general consensus was that she was still fit for duty, given her performance in the recent Murder Game, dubbed the "Daughter Incident." Even after a year of being missing, she still had it. It had been explained that for the majority of the year she had been missing, Kirigiri had been stuck in a coma, floating through the void of the multiverse, due to the power of the Arch Demon. Shortly after he had fallen, according to her testimony, she awakened in a world called Columbia, where she had taken some time to recover, before leaving, setting off to return home, going through a interdimensional portal that happened to be in the world, and ending up in the event before she knew it. Having ended up in an event alongside people who were familiar with the Coalition, such as one Wanda Maximoff, also known as "Scarlet Witch," and a mercenary known as Felix who had partaken in the Arch Demon's Downfall, Kyoko had gotten on the update on a few details, such as the demon's death and the continued existence of the Murder Games, among a few more discoveries when she'd return, such as the betrayal of G.O.R.E. and the alliance with the United Universes.

While she was given a number of reports to look at that had been written over the year she had been gone, even someone like the Ultimate Detective could sometimes decide that too much was just too much to read, so she ended up skimming most of the finer details and got a very basic gist of the situation. She could certainly read and process fast, but at the expense of her mental energy, like a professional runner.

It was no matter though. Kyoko could save all that for later downtime. After all, she had people to reunite with. On top of Makoto, Ms. Frizzle, and Byakuya (as much as Byakuya could even be happy over something anyway), she had to at least drop by and say hi to the older members that had known her before she disappeared, including Fukawa and Yukizome, as well as Kieran, Leia, and a number of others.

Naturally, even Alter Ego was quite pleased as well.

Still, even Kyoko could sense that something was wrong. Of course, there was hardly a point in time where things were mostly "right" when you had a whole multiverse to look after, but that was beside the point. The point being that something was off within the Coalition itself. Being a detective, Kyoko was naturally an intelligent person who was able to read things such as moods and the air quickly. Just because she didn't often show emotion didn't mean she didn't at least understand how they worked, and she definitely understood that there was some odd tension between Kieran and Makoto. Of course, the first move she made was to question some of the other members to hear their opinion, but no one really had anything useful to contribute to her investigation, most either not even noticing any tension or simply stating that Kieran lately seemed avoidant of Makoto.

Suspicious indeed.

Kyoko didn't dare directly question either of them about it. Even if she had a 50/50 chance of them either giving her a badly covered up run-around or ending up ranting too much about it, the young detective decided that she'd rather not get herself openly embroiled into whatever possible mess she was looking at. However, she knew that if there was some feud between the two young men that had been going on for as long as it was without being resolved, then it was never going to be resolved without outside interference. So Kyoko decided to use her detective skills to good use.

By getting onto Makoto's command computer while he wasn't looking.

While she certainly felt a little guilty that she had to resort to infringing upon Makoto's privacy in order to get answers, she knew in her heart that this was the most effective way to get answers. If the mysterious matter between him and Kieran were hush-hush enough that most members didn't seem to exactly have anything to say about it, as well as Ms. Frizzle and other "Administration" members, then surely, she could find some answers on his computer.

"..."

Having waited for him to leave to attend to some matters, Kyoko would sneak into his office after hours and boot up the computer, the machine making a small whirring sound as it came to life. After a few seconds, prompts for the username and password came up, and Kyoko would type in the intended user, but stopped for a moment whens she'd reach the password.

User: Makoto Naegi
Password: _

The lavender maiden furrowed her brow lightly, racking her brain for what the password was. She had been thinking to herself what his password might have been while she was on her way to the command office, but she hadn't even realized she never settled on very many guesses before she'd gotten there. Not to mention like most highly secure data banks, the password changed every other day, if not every day. Still, if Makoto was the one who went through the trouble of changing the password himself every time, then perhaps she could use her deductive reasoning skills and make an educated guess.

Hmph.

For all that was good about Makoto, perhaps one negative was that he was too predictable. As Junko Enoshima said, hope was predictable, and Makoto was practically the living embodiment of hope.

At least, he was supposed to be.

After all the things that had happened, she wasn't so sure these days.

But once she'd look into these files, Kyoko would learn the truth.

Though it was initially unclear as to where she was supposed to start looking, Kyoko wasn't an expert sleuth because of her inability to explore, so she went through the painstaking effort of looking through any files she believed to be of interest, practically warming herself up for the reading with some smaller files. Some were simple incident reports, such as the Daughter Incident being possibly connected to previous Murder Games, notably one "Carnival Incident" and one "Gravity Falls Incident," which Byakuya had mentioned earlier, Kyoko would recall. Other files included collaborations with the United Universes, official statements of declaring a Multiverse Directive with the United Universes and the United Federation of Planets, becoming branched with a magic-centered organization known as the Multiverse Emergency Unit, etc.

Kyoko wasn't too worried that she'd get caught if she'd waste enough time with these things. Still, once she figured that she was getting nowhere with these, it was time to move on. Moving away from the general folder, she went to a folder that caught her eye, hidden beneath layers of folders with computer talk names like "M&76" and "12654;" and so on.

Classified Information - Clearance Level 10

kiri020.png

Accessing the folder with administration power, Kyoko would see quite a number of strangely named folders that would catch her attention, like a reporter who had discovered the next big scoop, some of the names including the following:

Despair Energy Findings
Ilona Threat Level Assessment - Recommended Courses of Action
Multiverse Hotel Incident

... Among other folders.

Clicking open the folder concerning this "Ilona" individual, Kyoko silently read through the file, her purple eyes never blinking as they scanned the words, and before she knew it, she would involuntarily let out a soft sigh as she couldn't believe the things Makoto had said.

kiri016.png

"Makoto... What happened?"

For all that Kyoko had been shocked by the things she had read in the file, this revelation made known to her, there was one detail that the Ultimate Detective had missed.

Makoto had left his office to deal with Coalition matters at 2000 hours. Now, it was 0100 hours. What Kyoko never realized was that someone else had accessed and looked into this info at 2200 hours. Someone unknown to both Kyoko and Makoto.

Someone who was about to cause the multiverse to shake in its very boots.

Nothing would ever be the same again.

Epilogue- Stiles
" When Things Fall Apart....."
I got on the bus that took me back to the Coalition. Hopefully I would get to see Scott soon... he was a part of this... stupid Noble Scott. Why do you have to save the world? Why couldn't you just go home?

Stiles closed the journal before he could get too ranty on his best friend. He finally arrived at the Coalition base and went to go and search for Scott. It was one thing to hear that your best friend was part of a saving organization, it was another to see it. He hadn't changed a bit since he had seen him less.

" Scott, " Stiles called out and he noticed that his best friend had turned around and he looked at his best friend. He noticed that he was alone and that bugged him. Had Scott not gone home or... was something wrong back home? He looked at Scott. " Scott, is everything okay?" He knew something was off.

" Yeah, everything is fine," Scott said.

Stiles looked at his best friend. " You're lying, what's wrong?"

Scott sighed." It's complicated... I went back home and well, only Lydia, Melissa and Liam were left."

Stiles looked at his friend and paused. " What do you mean by left?"

Scott was silent. " Gone, nowhere to be found. The town was a ghost town, it was me and then you and if you're here, I think I know what is happening.... in theory."

Stiles looked at his best friend and paused. " Where are Lydia, Liam and your mom?"

Scott looked at his best friend. " Liam went to go and find Mason, they found him, Lydia is around, she's been reading up on the event in the library... for reasons. My mom is helping the best she can with the medical staff in the area. They got great minds, but only one doctor and one nurse."

Stiles wasn't going to ask about his dad. He just didn't want to know. What he wanted right now was a hug and Scott obliged.

Things aren't ever going to be the same. Beacon Hills is gone, but a distant memory. I hope they can find my dad... otherwise things are falling apart....

Jack Frost - Epilogue; Breaking the Ice

It was uncertain exactly what happened with Tarlotte after that moment he had reached out to her, either Jack had lost himself in the moment, or perhaps the little cat-girl had knocked him out, whether it was on purpose or not, and he had simply lost consciousness for a while, but the next thing he knew, he was sitting on some sort of... Magic School bus, having made his decision to go home. He would have loved to become part of the Coalition, but he knew he couldn't accept that responsibility, as he already had one... As a Guardian, and it wasn't one he could just throw away.

The hopes and dreams... The light that filled the day, that drove away the fear... Depended on the Guardians... On him. If he stayed gone for too long, Pitch was bound to strike back and... For all he knew, the Guardians might not be able to recover at all without his help.

Even though he knew that it wasn't likely that he was going to see those he had met during this... Murder game ever again, he knew he would recall the fond memories of the more heartwarming times he had shared with those here.

Honda's tenacity when it came to the trials, which inspired Jack Frost himself to think harder than he might have ever had during those events... Kyoko's firm belief in hope... Not unlike his own, the Samurai's stoic, yet kind nature, as he observed him with Zinnia, a little bundle of joy on her own... Morikobu, and her child-like innocence, and even the somewhat aggravating Rant, amongst others he had met, even if it was only for a brief moment.

Of course... Then there was Tarlotte, a little ball of spitfire and fury, but... Even then, her more... Gentle nature was revealed when she slept, tired from all the exertions in the day (and fights with Zinnia). Perhaps she was one of the biggest reasons he had managed to not let the weight of the situation hit him like it had did when Wanda had died, along with Usumi, or so it seemed. Her childish tantrums, and sometimes unreasonable demands for both cake, and to see Sojiro, someone who had clearly been close to her.

Perhaps she reminded him of the very thing he had sworn to protect during his official oath as a Guardian... The children, with their energetic, and sometimes unreasonable nature... And their unwavering peace in their slumber after a particularly tiring day.

Would they... See each other again?

That, was a question Jack Frost knew he couldn't answer, but nonetheless, he smiled, looking towards Tarlotte, wherever she was on the bus...

"I'll miss you... Tarlotte. The 'ultimate tantrum'." He said, smirking a little.

Something told him mentioning her title might set her off again... But, maybe that wasn't such a bad thing? Whether she was sleeping peacefully, smiling and happy, or just yelling up a storm... That image stayed, almost as if it were imprinted on his mind even as his eyes drifted shut... And he dozed off on the bus.

...

Darkness, all he could see was darkness, and in this darkness... He could hear a distant song, made up of around 7 notes, repeating each other, but he wasn't quite sure what it was, or where it was coming from. Then... For a moment, he could almost feel a part of him, as if a shard of his very soul had just... Been knocked free, and then... His senses seemed to fail him.

...

Jack Frost finally awoke with a gasp, looking around at his surroundings... He felt cold again, like he was used to feeling, and in general, he appeared to be in quite a cold place. Soon enough, it became rather clear that he was laying on his back, in that very same icy crevice Pitch had knocked him into in Antarctica... Looks like he must have fallen a long ways from the sky, when he had been heading towards tooth palace.

VeI7kzP.gif

"Was that real...?" He whispered to himself, looking up at the moon in the sky.

It was particularly bright tonight... Piercing through the white, arctic sky, it seemed.

Though he couldn't be completely sure, the experience certainly felt real, and... Upon further investigation, his staff appeared to have little cracks, which were beginning to be repaired by his now restored magic.

It seemed that whatever had happened to him, caused him to drop from the sky, and lost consciousness... Perhaps bending the staff a little and causing those little cracks from the stress? But then... His magic should have prevented that... Which meant that either he had lost his magic for some reason or...

... It was real.

His experience in that strange Murder Game certainly felt real and... So did those that he had come to know there, however little.

The memory of Tarlotte, and the others still lingered in his mind, but he knew he had a job to do, he was a Guardian after all, and even the smallest of breaks could spell disaster for the joy in children if he wasn't carefull. With an new sense of vigor, and a strange, warmness in his heart, quite unlike anything he had felt in ages. Suddenly, he realized that he didn't need to talk to the Tooth Fairy anymore, as he felt... Full of life again, that small emptiness in him... Gone, he smiled, letting out one final shout towards the heavens.

"Winds! Take me home!" He called out.

With that... A strong gust of wind blew him up and out of the crevice, rocketing him into the sky and back home... To the sleepy town of Burgess, where he could resume his rightfull place... As a Guardian, but this time... With a new sense of duty.

The Murder Game hadn't exactly been all candy and rainbows all the time... But... All the same... He was glad he had been a part of them... After all, he had them to thank, for meeting the people that had made him whole again.

His experiences and struggles without his powers, after all... Had finally helped him regain the little part of him he thought had been lost when he had passed away, and eventually became a Guardian...

The 'ultimate funhouse' had finally found his humanity again.

...

End - The Ultimate Guardian
