She shook her head. "That ain't my life story. There's a hell of a lot more to it."

The Siren glanced at Desmond quietly.. And almost felt bad, seeing the way he looked. Alone. Pained. She knew those feelings.. All too well.

I ain't supposed to feel bad for people..

@BarrenThin @Thuro Pendragon @Nater Taters

Sometimes when he looked into the Apple, it looked back. Sometimes he swore he could almost he could see Lucy. He held the Apple up to his face and stared at its swirls.

"If you've got any advice, now would be a good time."

When he lowered it he was just left looking at Ridley again. Damn. Sometimes you just couldn't get away from some things. If only he could use the Apple on himself. Make him forget, or maybe just not care.
It was easy to focus on the mission when there was someone right in front of you that was trying to kill you, but harder in the down time. The moments in between the moments.

Desmond needed someone to talk to, but had cut even that off. He foolishly believed that the Mentor couldn't show any weakness or humanity. Another sign he was too years too young for the job.

So he did what he always did. He talked to Lucy. Quietly, so the others wouldn't wonder why he talked to phantoms.

"Hey Luce. What have I gotten myself into this time?" He gave a little laugh. "You were the sensible one out of the two of us, why'd you have to go and leave me in charge?" A bitter joke. "I miss you more with each new burden. Sorry I made you go."

It didn't help. It never did.

"Well, we found the asshole victims of the group," Abel muttered as the dome covered them, "Want me to freeze the ground around them whenever we go somewhere so they slip and fall?"

@Chris Lang @Lizzy @Gummi Bunnies
"By all means, go ahead with that," Lapis says with a nonchalant tone, leaning against the interior wall of her crystal dome.

"At least with this, we can have some alone time before we got to get going to the next dimension or whatever you call it. ...I just hope we end up in the right place this time around," she gave a content sigh, deciding to take off her mask since she and Abel were the only ones in her crystal dome.

@The Tactician

"And I've actually killed thousands. Your point?"

@Hospes

"You kill for justice. I tried because.. Family issues." Yeah.. That was complicated.

Nowadays, the Siren almost wished she had died like she was supposed to. That she had been dead in place of Macon, or Larkin, or.. Hell, even Abraham or Serafina.

Too bad that wasn't the case, and that she was alive as ever.

Kalifa and Kaku, meanwhile, were not entirely sure what to do. Everyone seemed to be busy with their own personal problems, and it seemed that despite the obstacle to the next stage of the journey being removed (namely Loki), it would be a while before they went anywhere.

So they had time to talk amongst themselves.

"So, what do you think of this group?" Kaku asked.

"This Lapis is a strange one. I don't know what caused her to break down the way she did. The last time we saw her, she was eager to kill enemies and take souvenirs." Kalifa said.

"Then again, we don't really know her all that well." Kaku said. "She doesn't know us all that well, either. But being covert agents, we tend not to talk about ourselves that much."

"You were pretty friendly with the shipwrights at Galley-La." Kalifa said.

"It didn't stop me from doing what I had to do." Kaku said. "I'm not surprised that Paulie took it so personally. He's a good foreman and a good leader, but he doesn't take kindly to lies and betrayal. If I had to be honest, I'm glad he survived the fire at the Galley-La mansion. I felt bad about leaving him there, but I did what I had to do for the sake of the mission."

"I'm wondering if the people around us can do what they have to for the sake of this mission." Kalifa replied. "We're clear of suspicion since the Traitors targeted us, but anyone else there can be a Traitor. Can we trust them to not be so blinded by friendship that they won't vote out someone likely to be a Traitor?"

"At this point, it doesn't really matter. There's so many to choose from and so little to point to anyone in particular that no one really knows who to vote for." Kaku replied, knowing that others in the area probably were hearing every word of this conversation but not really minding because none of what they were saying was anything they didn't want the others to hear.

At this point, Kalifa turned to anyone who might be listening. "We've been away for a while. Tell us what's been happening since we were ... separated from the group."

Frank snorted. "I kill for revenge. I kill out of hate. Just like you."

Bayonetta approached the group, with two of her earlier companions. She smiled as she had observed some of what was going on, but decided to make a little scene of it.

"Oh pray tell, what kind of drama have you been having as of late? I leave you for a bloody second, and you both have transformed rather magnificently into quite the drama queens."

Desmond actually cracked a smile at this. Some things never changed. "I missed you Bayonetta." He rolled his eyes, trying to hide what he'd been thinking just a moment ago. "Never around when I need a hand of course. Had to kill an alien with a lollipop cause of that."

He glanced at Ridley.

"Sorry." He apologized. It had been her lollipop.

"Just another thing we have in common, huh?" she mused, hand ghosting over her shoulder. It still hurt like hell.. But she was trying to ignore it.

She just glanced warily at Bayonetta.. And practically glared upon hearing Kalifa and Kaku's words. Before promptly moving away from the group, frowning deeply and wiping at her eyes.

Right. Good reminder of why I ain't got friends: I can't stand people an they can't stand me.

"Perhaps," Bayoneta said to Kaku, "but I rather prefer a hero with a little distraction, something aside from the normal superhero. It makes them, shall I say, more interesting? And speaking from experience, a little distraction at the heart does not hurt at all."

Maybe it was because of his natural attraction to her, but he was suddenly very pissed at Bayonetta. "You know, sometimes you can be a bit of a bitch. The mission doesn't matter if we give up on the principles we're here to protect."

Hopefully she wouldn't snap his head clean off his shoulders.

He looked back at Ridley. He was tempted to follow her, but resisted. "Just, cool it with the attitude. Okay?"

"So, does that mean there's hope for you?" Kalifa asked. "That you're not obsessed with your war every waking moment?"

"When we have some time to ourselves, we have some competitions. On St. Poplar island, we went bowling for a while." Kalifa nodded. "A shame the Candy Pirates interrupted us. We were having a good time relaxing for a change before they showed up to attack the island."

"So, when you're not carrying around a whole arsenal and looking for criminal targets, how do you relax and unwind?" Kalifa asked Frank, genuinely curious.

"Maybe. Depends on who you ask. As for what I do... I don't. You don't get as many kills as me by going on vacation. I ain't got anything better to do here, though- unless you'd like me to try and kill Claire again."

This only frustrated Ridley. "I don't need a damn escort, Guns."

Ridley hardly even noticed Desmond defending her. She couldn't look back right now. Everything just hurt too much. And when Ridley felt hurt, or sad.. She felt like she had to push people away. To keep from humiliating herself. She always went back.. But she couldn't let people see her like this.

If she had looked, though, she would be making so many remarks about how Desmond was totally into her.
