Luna Hall Academy: The Entrance Exam

  • So many newbies lately! Here is a very important PSA about one of our most vital content policies! Read it even if you are an ancient member!
"A-Ah!" He then picked up a tape which seemed to be labeled '방탄손연단 RUN! 에피소드 1', he observed the whole tape and put it in the player. He watched it and smiled, looking at his long-haven't-seen members. "Ahaha..Bogo Sipda. (I miss you.)" He laughed and closed his eyes.

In the Great Hall of Luna Hall many of the instructors gathered around the large white cube carefully watching the test. Others kept an eye on their looking glasses. Each reporting whenever they had any interesting information to offer.
The headmaster moved to perch on the back of a chair peering intently at the goings on. Some students seemed to be fairing better that others. Some were trying to go solo, others were breaking up into teams. Regardless of how they chose to proceed from the instructor's stance the trial was a success.

They had a clear way to access the student's abilities.

Inside the test the group of students this story centers on were just starting to tackle the second level.
North, South, East, and West.
Each direction marked a path they could take.
Some of them were right when they decided the directions were relevant to the houses of the school. They were even more right if they had supposed that each level of the test was likewise related to a house. How much each had guessed, however, was still yet to be determined.

The beanstalk at the center and its small way-station marked their starting point. The large pillar with it's riddle was their fist set of instructions. The first task was a simple one.
Choose a direction to go.
The cross roads just beyond this pillar were perfectly set in each direction. The paths were well paved and each went over the top of a hill and disappeared down the other side. All four were visibly Identical.

It quickly became clear to those that bothered to take notice that no matter have far they went, if they got lost, the beanstalk itself served as a central marker. They would always be able to restart if they needed to.

Over each hill beyond sight, was another small pillar marking the beginning of each directional route. On each was a small sign with a verse as to what lay ahead.

They all started off the same way.

One guess and one only
do you need to pass your test
If incorrectly do you answer
return to start and then rest

Each direction by its turn,
in order may you try
As many chances as you need
before onward you can fly.

Following these verses on the pillar were two more that differed by direction

@daird @GamerFangirl @Celestial Scorpio @Shinku⭐Kun @Cresion Breezes
North

I joined the fun for entertainment
To help new ideas grow
Answer me correctly
and onward you may go

Before that lies distraction
twisting pathways of despair
Keep on the up and narrow
to come straight to my lair

This pillar was pale lavender in color indicating it's relation to SphinxHill. The path ahead twisted through the hills making it easy to lose sight of, but ahead those headed north could make out what seemed to be the beginning of a wood and beyond that something that looked like a wall.

South

Temptation may make you tarry
when offered by my hand
Strong of will continue onward
and below to find new land

Yet before that lies distraction
A giver of many tasks
be careful not to lose your time
whatever this one asks

This pillar was a soft orange, the color of a glowing sky when the sun set. South led to DjinnGate. The way seemed mostly flat, but flat can seem to go on forever and distance was difficult to judge.

@Luma
East

I am gone and I am here
find me if you dare
Then answer one of my questions
and continue from here to there

but before that lies distraction
stating what every traveler knows
a marker for your way
and pillar for where one goes

The rose stone pillar was one that belonged to RocCliff. In the distance the hills seemed to grow progressively larger until what seemed to be mountains took form.

West

I am a single answer
Reflected as if beneath glass
face yourself in reflection
then onward can you pass

Still before that lies distraction
a light that wayward leads
A wisp that moves in shadows
and confuses with its pleas

The fourth pillar was a soft teal in color reflecting LeviathanSea. The land started out hilly and the smoothed out, but what lay ahead was obscured by fog.

Six students remained at the beanstalk way-station trying to decide on the direction they would choose.

Yumi had gone quiet as the large group had moved on. It was best if she kept it that way. Being that she was unfortunately well known throughout the school do to her grades and natural take to magic, it meant that plenty of admiration came with it. As did judgement. She wished she wouldn't get so much attention, but the expectations from her family were extremely clear. As were the consequences if she did not meet those expectations. As some of the others began to choose a direction, Yumi would observe quietly.

The only thing that would make sense is if each direction was associated with a Luna Hall house. Which would mean, as a member of SphinxHill, she should take north. Glancing among the others quietly, she would follow the small group that had just headed in that same direction. One of them being from her own house. A quiet boy, a second year this year, if she recalled correctly. Unfortunately, she didn't quite recall his name. She wanted to say Nian, but she wasn't quite sure. A thoughtful frown tugged at her lips as she realized this. She would have to fix that a some point.

Climbing the hill, Yumi noticed the next pillar. As she arrived, Yumi would stand to the side, her hands clasped before her as she read the violet writing. She was correct, each direction was associated with a house. What would this entail? An advantage for those house members? More difficult challenges perhaps? Yumi would have to wait and say. Reading the writing on the pillar, Yumi would reread it thoughtfully several times. "What does it mean ..." Yumi would murmur quietly, one hand moving to idly curl a strand of hair around her right index finger.

"Hm." He looked around and went to the North way. He sighed on the way there as he looked at his hand and his bag. Jung sang 'Expensive Girl' on the way there. [please do not search it] He kept humming the tone and found a bench. He sat down on it and sighed heavily. "Agh, long day." He looked up. He sat there for a few minutes.

Jin was just a normal student who enrolled in a magical academy. He was friends with Jung before and because of that, he picked the North way as well. He then mumbled, "A, geu Joonie lookalikeneun eodi issni? (Ah, where's that Joonie lookalike?)" to himself.

Pandora Dawn

"It's settled then!" exclaimed Pandora with a wide smile and clapping once in excitement after Nian decided to join the crew. As she looked around her, she noticed that mostly everyone were heading to a chosen direction already. So, she widened her eyes and quickly, but gently, grabbed Celest's right hand. "Lets not lose more time and head North. I'll go with Celest. You can go with Vinno."

With that and without waiting for Celest to say something, Pandora dragged him with her toward her flying broom, took a sit sideways and sat Celest behind her, and commanded her broom to take flight all the way through the North path, the speed a decent one after knowing about the surprise Speed Restriction spells through the whole maze, awaiting for unknownly victims.

As Pandora crossed the the hill to the other side with the 'kidnapped' Celest, she noticed and read the first part of a riddle on another pillar. Taking a mental note about it, she continued forward, already beginning to pounder in her head about what this riddle could be about. She also was feeling the difficulty levels increasing by each riddle she solve. She scoffed while moving aside a string of her red bangs.

"They really take these things seriously, huh?" she thought and lifted her right hand, gently placing the tip of her thumb between her teeth. "Good thing they're giving us as many chances we need to solve it. It'll be a pain in the ass to have to go back and start over, though..." Sighing, she lightly shook her head to put aside her thoughts and kept going, making sure that Celest was still with her a couple of times. She didn't checked Vinno because she knew she wouldn't have any trouble catching her up.

After a few minutes or so, Pandora noticed two more pillars with verses of a riddle. As she read them and analyzed them mentally, her bicoloured eyes sparkled with wonder while her eyes slowly widened, having a feeling that she may have solve the riddle. "Mmh, I think that we actually may end up facing someone or something which we need to answer whatever it ask us," she finally said out loud and turned her head to her right to look at Celest, her broom making a stop beside the pillar. "And if we suceed, I think we're going to face some kind of maze. So, what are your thoughts about this, my dear Celest?"

Pandora was also aware that another person was present, this one a young witch that seems quite troubled about the riddle in front of her. Sighing, the red-haired witch hopped off her broom and walked toward the other girl, um... Once again not waiting for Celest's response. Okay, this girl has some serious issues, I guess.

"Do you need any help, miss?" she asked politely with a smile as she stopped beside the newfound female. "You seem like struggling with something."

Vinno yawned as she looked at Pandora with a spaced out stare. She sure was energetic. Vinno thought as Pandora dragged Celeste off. The peppy redhead left her instructions to bring Nian along, Vinno wanted to object by saying that she wasn't the boss of her, but in the end gave it up to the girl's energy. On the other hand, the one she needed to bring along wasn't as full of cheer. Nian seemed really nervous, as well as unwilling to talk about literally everything. 'Oh well.' Vinno muttered to herself, 'less problems for me.'

The flight was at first alright, but then it became clear that the restriction spells limited anything related to a broom, including the wind spells on Vinno's broom. It used the energy from the broom, so it was classified in the same category. Despite the lowered speeds and altitude, the amount of wind that came and Vinno still scraped against her throat and lungs like tiny blades every time she took a breath. She coughed a few times, but then tried to distract herself by following Pandora. When she landed on beside the pillar over the hill, Vinno took a deep breath and sat down beside the sign. Eyes dark and sullen. "Great, didn't think this would happen." She siped a bit of the water from the way station, while directing her gaze to the few students near the sign.

When her breathing finally is no longer painful Vinno went to join the others she came with, still looking a little shaken. Combing her messy hair back and readjusting her glasses, she arrived on the scene just in time to see that Yumi was also there. Vinno didn't think much about her other than that it'll make her job easier, having someone who's a modeled student by your side in these tests. But then again, these riddles aren't exactly academic.

"I guess it makes sense, for this school to like fancy word plays." Vinno said to herself as she inspected the sign. It was likely alluring to the idea of a Sphinx's lair, if their hypothesis was still correct. A sphinx is many times known for guarding something, like the gates of an ancient city or a secret passage into old ruins. The next part of the passage mentions up and narrow paths. Vinno didn't think it only meant its literal meaning, up is associated with the divine, while narrow is often used to equate to difficulty of entrance. So perhaps its also telling them to not take any easy ways out.

"Do you need any help, miss? You seem like struggling with something." Pandora was the first to talk to Yumi. Vinno doubt that Yumi is actually struggling, with her grades and all, after all, this sign wasn't even an actual question, just a guild line to tell them where to go.

"Is there really anything to be struggling about though?" Vinno walked up beside Pandora, rubbing her eyes and yawning while snapping her flying broom back into its original shape. "I mean, this is just telling us to go ahead, it's not even an actual question."

The farther Iris got from the crowds of the beanstalk, the more relaxed she seemed to get. People were exhausting; it was nice to be alone for a change. On the other hand, figuring out things on her own was a major challenge in itself, without another to lean on. This was an especially pressing thought as she approached a rose-colored pillar over a tall hill.

"Gone and here..." she murmured aloud, reading through the puzzling riddle. "There's the new moon, but... I can't think of a question it asks," she continued to voice her thoughts aloud, spinning around to confirm there was no one nearby to hear. Satisfied with being alone, she returned her attention to the pillar again, grabbing a small notebook and self-writing quill from her bag. Writing down the whole thing for reference, she re-read it line by line.

"Do you need to pass your test? That's a question. Um... 'yes?'" Iris answered the pillar unsure, figuring it was worth a shot and paling with embarrassment at trying something so stupid. "Or maybe that part's later...?" Right, the 'direction' comes first. Figuring it might make more sense as she traveled, Iris passed by the pillar and wandered into the hilly area, continually re-reading the riddle as she went.

Xander Tralin grumbled as he marched down the east path, away from the central beanstalk. "No respect for the old arts!" The words were sharp and the tone disgruntled but still delivered at a low volume. Xander had slid down the beanstalk juggling balls of colored fire in a double loop before firing them off to burst like fireworks as he had flipped off the base and landed in a grand pose. The display of showmanship in the entrance would of at least gotten him a polite round of applause at home but the few people still around the base of the beanstalk hadn't even given him a second glance.

Xander continued marching east shoulders hunched, mouth frowning to one side and eyes scanning the path forward and surrounding terrain. His eyes had given him problems when he'd first come to Luna Hall. The pupils of his eyes were silted and draconian in appearance. Combined with the nature of the magic he knew had lead to some nasty rumors; That he's been raised in a dragon cult, that he would hurt small animals for fun before burning them, that he was cursed and could turn people into newts with his gaze alone. That last was particularly ridicules but all were equally untrue. The truth was much simpler and benign. Xander had been raised in a small defunct mining town deep in the mountains that now subsisted of the small amount of traffic over the mountains and the few people who bothered to make pilgrimages to the nearby wyvern enclave

The wyvern enclave was where he had spent most of his time growing up. The caretakers were all wyverns of course and had a good relationship with the town folk. Without the magical prowess of their elder cousins, the dragons, the wyverns of the enclave had dedicated their lives to the preservation of knowledge; that's where he had learned the old magic he used. It was simple really, It let him use is own breath as a focus for magic like the dragons did. His magic wasn't different or more powerfully or capable of different things than other forms. Breath magic simply let him get away with not drawing fancy circles or carrying a wand. The side effect what that his eyes had changed and he had a tendency to breath small bursts of fire when he was careless.

But benign or not the image of a red-haired kid with draconic eyes who breathed fire had sparked rumors. Fortunately, his chipper personality and upbeat attitude had brought most people around over that last two years and even a complete book wyrm like him had a firm number of friends in the school, both inside his house and out.

As he crested the first hill a lone figure caught his eye. A girl with dark hair stood to examine a pillar. Unless he missed his guess entirely that was Iris, a fellow third-year RocCliff. Xander's eyes brightened and as his shoulders straightened as he hurried to catch up. Before he was halfway down the hill however she started moving on passed the pillar into the hills beyond. Stopping briefly at the pillar himself Xander scanned the poetic verse that adorned the small sign on it before hurrying on to catch up with Iris.

Approaching on her left Xander settled into a walk just behind and used his extra four inches of height and went onto the balls of his feet to peer over her shoulder and see what she was so focused on in her hands, a small notebook. Cocking his head slightly to the left and smiling Xander broke the silence, "Helloo Iris, wa'cha reading?"

Yumi was lost in thought. Not about the poem itself. That was pretty straight forward. Make your way to the lair and answer its question to move forward. What was it? The only thing that made any form of sense was a sphinx. However, that wasn't fully why she was lost in thought. She was thinking about her parents and her father's threat to disown her if she didn't do well and therefore dishonored her family name. The pressure was stifling. Yet, no one understood that piece about her. Not like she could openly talk about it. She didn't have many friends to talk to about it, even if she wanted too.

She was quickly torn from her thoughts as a voice reached her ears. "Do you need any help, miss?" Looking to her right, Yumi would blink lightly. She recognized them. Vinno, of course. And Pandora and Celest, both from her year. "Oh! Pandora, Celest. Good to see you. No, I was just thinking was all ..." Yumi would respond with a faint blush coloring her cheeks. "Was just pondering whose lair ... a sphinx would make the most sense. They're known for their riddles ..." Yumi would continue gently as she let her hands clasp before. "Mind if I join you? The thought of going through this by myself seems a bit lonely." She would say with a faint smile.

With a glance to Pandora's broom, Yumi would inwardly frown. Even with the limitations, Pandora and Celest would be moving faster than Vinno and her on foot. No reason to worry about it now. They would all get to their destination sooner or later. Sooner rather than later she hoped. They were on a time limit after all. "Shall we then?" With another practiced smile, Yumi would move past the pillar and continued forward. Time to find their next test.

As Yumi spoke to them, Pandora blinked her eyes in surprise as she realized the newcommer knows who she is. A sense of guilt appeared inside her as she felt bad for not knowing her too. Maybe it was all because she's always way too focused doing her work in Luna Hall, not having time to make friends like a normal school girl. It wasn't that she wanted to make them, though. After all, knowing that most of the people outside Luna Hall know from where she came from, Pandora was scared of ruining their lives for being related with her.

However, she finally made the decision of interacting and teaming up with Celest and Vinno, but 'teammates' and 'friends' aren't the same thing. So, even if it sounds cruel and cold, Pandora was planning to cut off their relation and stay away from them for their own good once she finish this Entrance Exam.

"That's why I avoid being around people for too long,"
Pandora whispered once she came out from her thoughts. Sighing, she cleared her throat and made a slightly fake smile. "Oh, yes, y-you can join us," she said, the old and nervous Pandora, her true self, trying to tear appart the 'fake one'. She quickly grabbed her flying broom and turned around, looking over at their path. "The more, the merrier. Besides, we are going to need all the help availlable if we're going to face a sphinx. Those creatures are like tricky and clever foxes."

Scoffing nervously, Pandora move aside the bangs of her scarlet hair and began to walk instead of flying with the broom. Walking was something she always likes to do every time she becomes overwhelmed with thoughts and feelings.

Before he had much time to react Celest was on the broom and the pair were off. He was not used to this at all and just closed his eye's to keep any debris out. Though the air felt nice as it brushed against him. At the question he opened an eye. He didn't particularly mind a maze, if anything it would be simple. Stick to one wall and follow it until you got to the end. Knowing the school it wouldn't be that easy sadly. There would be more to this maze than walls. "Well I guess it would be amazing." He joked and mentally facepalmed at the pun. "A maze seems too simple." He stated.

Once at their destination he listened to every speak and waited until Pandora began to walk. He followed and looked at the others. "Pandora thinks it may involve a maze. So if that is the case then if we stick together we should get out fine. If there is a maze then once inside we shouldn't separate. That is up to everyone though." For now they just had to walk to their destination. Which could involve a sphinx or maybe something along the lines of a riddle teller. Once they were there he would make sure to try his best to help answer the riddles.

"If we are to answer a riddle should we assign someone as the leader to answer the riddle?" He asked as he looked at everyone. "We all can discuss and help but if we all blurt out an answer it may just tell us we are all wrong. So I think having someone as the answerer might be best. Since I have little knowledge on riddles I definitely don't think I should answer. I think Vinno or Pandora should but Yumi or Nian if you guys want to answer I am fine with that too." Surely everyone but him could easily answer. He remembered Yumi faintly though and he only knew she was someone who excelled academically.

As the group headed north continued onward the wall in front of them steadily seemed larger and larger, but they would quickly realize it was an optical illusion creating by their position in the hills and it's position at the top of a rise. In fact one they reached it it was barely over two stories tall. just tall enough that you wouldn't be able to see over if a few students decided to try standing on each other's shoulders.
It was clearly a maze. The verse written on the left side of the arched opening said so:

I stand before the great and small,
a maze of pathways within my walls.

That was it.
against the right hand side of the opening was a ladder. it wasn't even a rickety thing, rather a steel extension ladder secured into the wall with wire ties so it couldn't move. It extended all the way to the top allowing anyone brave enough to climb up to easily look over the maze to see how long it was, or even a way across. on the other hand, there seemed to be an edge only 100 yards to the left hand side they could possibly go look around as well.

East Route
@Luma @ryexander

The two headed east came across something much less exciting. A simple stone pillar, short in stature, placed in the middle of the road. On it was installed a plaque with what looked like a bird of some sort, possibly an attempt at an owl, and another riddle:

I stand in your way frozen
a marker on the path
a hand not mine placed me.
Where are you

Nian followed Vinno in awkward silence once they reached the riddle he noticed another girl that went by the name Yumi, Nian simply stood in the background. Once Celest spoke of the riddle he didn't spend any less time he looked up at it and tried to figure it out. Then he saw a maze and walked towards it. "Guys, I think this is the next step" he said.

"I stand before the great and small. A maze of pathways between my walls" he read under his breath, this was gonna take a lot of thinking through.
Then he saw the ladder and decided to climb up to see the top.

The view from the top of the ladder was very revealing. Nian would be able to see that the maze seemed to stretch on for a good ways, however the tops of the walls were easily as thick as a sidewalk making them perfectly safe for a human to walk across. In fact if one wanted they could easily find a relatively straight path from one side to the other if they were willing to jump the few, relatively narrow, breaks in the center wall. in one place it even looked like someone had built a makeshift bridge from a wide log to span a gap.

The ends of two more ladders could even be seen poking up over the walks. One at the far end, and one from the center.

"A labyrinth. Oh, goodie. I thought we were done with the thrice-damned puzzles already. Anyone want to bet there's no exit and we'll have to make one with earth magic?" Samantha shuddered in fear at the thought- earth magic required a lot of brute force, something she'd never been good at. Would this be where her dream of entering Luna Hall died? Then she clambered up the ladder, seeing the seemingly straight path across.

"Oh."

Well it looked like the group was right about it being a maze. He read the words and scratched his chin. So now all they had to do was traverse the maze and fine the exit to it. He watched as Nian climbed the latter and waited a moment before he decided to follow. Going up the ladder Celest looked down and felt his stomach turn some the higher he went up. Once at the top he looked around at the maze, trying to figure out the path they should take. Though he didn't dare look down as he stood up there.

Noticing the other two ladders he wondered if they could go along the tops of the walls, of course it was more dangers but it seemed quicker. Finally he decided to glance down at the other's. "I can see the layout of the maze from up here. We can go through it or.. we can try to travel along the tops of the walls up here. There seems to be two ladders connecting to the walls further in." Celest yelled down, his vision blurring slightly as he saw the height now. Swaying he balanced himself and looked back towards the ladders.

He was unsure which would be the correct way to go, one was in the center, the other at the far end. In theory he felt the one in the center may be the correct way to go, if they were to go down deeper like they did the stalk then a staircase in the center made more sense. But there was also the fact that maybe the school thought of that and placed the way to the next part towards the end. He knew mazes often had treasure hidden in the center but on paper many had the exit on the border. Celest was torn between the two options.

As the group came to a stop, they finally found the maze the riddle mentioned. Kind of excited, Pandora turned her head to her right to read part of another riddle and blinked in surprise as she spotted a latter leading to the top of the maze. "Huh... I didn't see this coming," she told herself, suspicious of why the Academy gave them the option to climb to the top of the maze instead of forcing everyone to cross it.

Nian was the first of them to dare to climb the latter, followed by Celest a minute or so later. Pandora observed them in silence, poundering if doing the same or just cross the maze as expected. However, going through the top where she could have a better view of the path was definitely the best option if she wanted to finish this level fast. "Damn it... Why making desicions need to be so hard?" she mumbled, frowning while crossing her arms, turning to look at the entrance of the maze.

"I can see the layout of the maze from up here..."

Pandora blinked once after hearing Celest, noticing his nervous tone, probably because he wasn't good with heights. Scoffing with amousement, she sighed and decided to climb the latter. She wasn't the type of girl that always take the easy ways, but today she could make an exception.

"Alright, let me see what we got here, mmh?" she said once she made it to the top of the maze. Glaring forward, Pandora noticed the two latters Celest mentioned and an makeshift bridge, giving out the idea that somebody probably already crossed through here.

"Normally, the exit of a maze is at the other end of the entrance, so there's where we should go," Pandora began to speak, already making her brain to figure out the actual situation as she observed everything in front of her. "However, I have this funny feeling that there's something awaiting for us in the center, so we should check it out. Who knows? Maybe there's where our clever Sphinx is waiting for us, eager to tell us its riddles."

Chuckling, Pandora fixed and tightened her backpack before slidding her broom through its straps on her back. After making sure it was secured, she looked over at Nian and Celest with a smile and blinked her right eye. "Meet you at the center." Then, she began to carefully travel through, jumping gaps when necessary, not afraid at all from the height.

Vinno shifted her eyes to the side as Nian, Celest and Pandora climbed up the ladder plopped up on the maze walls. She yawned again, showing little to no interest or surprise at the ladder. Sure it was unusual, but nothing to raise a brow about. The others were still climbing, so she waited a few moments until the coat was clear to hop up into the walls.

The others were standing on the wall, most likely thinking about something. Then Vinno noticed ladders down, both at the edge and center. 'So that's why no one moved right away.' Vinno crossed her arms and pulled out the note book again. She suspects its a method of confusion, or a split path. It was most likely to make students hesitant, or lose time by taking a wrong path. Vinno doubts that the school higher ups will actively try and straight up fail people, after all, she was still here. 'Well, if you know the tester's intentions, it's easy.'

On the notebook she scribbled down four lines.
-Above—Center
-Above—Edge
-Below—Center
-Below—Edge

The fours paths that exists. There must be either one or multiple 'optimized path' that will bring them to a destination the fastest. Vinno paused a bit to think about each. By walking below one can scout out any unusual matters happening on the ground, while going above allows more mobility and faster travel times. The best option was likely to team up in pairs, with one person on the walls and one on the ground, this way the one on the wall can scout and lead the way while the one on the ground can look around and notice any perks that comes with taking the hard way.

With a yawn Vinno doubted that anyone would do the team up plan with her, and was about to pull out a coin to see which way she should go via flipping it. This is when she noticed a red flare flashing by. It was Pandora, shouting that she was going to the center. 'If she's going to the center then...' Vinno ran a few steps after Pandora.

"Hey! Pandora! One second!" She shouted, a little cough ensued, "when you get there, can you send us a singal of some sort? Like with a green light for 'come here' and red light for 'don't come here', it's basic magic right?"

After gathering her breath a bit more Vinno explained her train of thought. With Celest in an ear shot too. "...part of this test is team work, if we split up and maintain some method of communication, we can figure out the best path in one go..." After saying that she sat down on the maze wall and hung her head over the edge, looking at the upside down scenery, her voice trailing off as she felt exhausted after hopping just a few walls. "I'm too tired to make any pointless trips."

The Great Hall

The professors watched from their viewing glass as the students puzzled over the maze. Some went ahead to check out the upper path, others waited.
"Well at least they're working as a team," the headmaster stated quite amused as he ruffled his feathers.

"When do you think that'll figure out that the central tasks are simply designed to waste time?" Instructor Davis chuckled as he wrote down the wagers of those fellow professors who had decided to take him up of the offer to gamble.

"When they get to the center and nothing's there?" Instructor Hazel Kirabo chirped. "I do think that was one of the harder of the central riddles."

"Because it was yours and it made you feel clever," Davis quipped back with an amused grin. "I still this the best was our dear instructor Sydney's " you are here" sign. How many has that stumped now?

Indeed there was nothing at the center of the maze. If one climbed down the ladder they'd find themselves in a simple circular area with several entrances. the grass was mostly undisturbed, the walls uniform. In fact the only indication of direction was more chalk arrows next to the ladder pointing up. Almost like a clue for anyone who had entered from the ground.

Fortunately the upward path was wide enough to be safe if a bit tricky, and the ground bellow soft enough if anyone did fall. It was almost like walking a normal sidewalk, supposing you didn't look down.

There was nothing remarkable about the pillar other than the sign. Although on the back side was stamped the insignia of a well known map company beside what appears to be a circle with for dots at the outer edge and a little X halfway between a central mark that looked like a leaf and the eastern dot.

Watching as Pandora took off Celest looked over at Vinno. He heard her ask the other to send a signal once she reached the middle. Then after just a few jumps she sat and looked about. He couldn't tell if she was unfit or just lazy, maybe both. Deciding to take the ground route Celest climbed down the ladder. If he went across the top he was sure he would fall and if that were to happen it would probably hurt way too much. Once on the ground he began to walk the maze.

Sticking to following the wall on his right it took him some time but he came to the center. Looking around he saw all the entrances into the middle. It seemed that this was just another way up and down. Arrows pointed to the ladder and he sighed. Vinno had said to signal her and he was unsure if Pandora had already made it or not. Using a bit of magic he sent up red flare to signal the others. .So they would have to go up no matter what it seemed. Slowly climbing the ladder the blonde made it back to the top of the walls. From there he could see the beginning and the end of the maze.

Making his way towards the end ladder he made sure to jump carefully and a few times he almost fell. Celest took his time as he traversed the walls and once he got to a gap that was too large he scratched his chin. Using simple magic he created a small sheet of ice by freezing water in the air. Stepping across it he wobbled and made it to the other side before letting the ice melt. Surely he would make it to the other ladder without a mistake. If he fell now he would havew to make it back to one of the other ladders and that would waste time.

By the time he made it to the ladder he was breathless and he sat on the wall to wait for everyone else. Celest wanted the others to be there once they all made it to the end so they all could see it together. That and if the sphinx was here to ask a riddle he wouldn't be able to answer it on his own most likely.
