[fieldbox= Nozomi Yuri, plum, solid]
[June 5th, Afternoon / Hisakawa Academy, Main School Building, Classroom 2-A]
"Yuri~ It would be a shame if you were stuck with something in the background. You should be a leading star! Amazing talent shouldn't go to waste!"
Her chest heaving in a sigh. Yuri replied back instantly.
"Please don't make fun of me, Kane-san."
A little afterwards, Shinji summed down what the Yuri wanted to accomplish with this discussion. Though he added that the group do a familiar sort of folk story that everyone would be familiar with. Lego again gave his opinion, reiterating the point of having the play have heroic and action elements to make it an interesting spectacle to behold for the audience. Going onward, the main point of the debate continued to be differing opinions on whether how much the musical element of the play would come into play.
"For the play, Momotaro could work? Most people recognize it, there's a bit of action and fighting involved, and we can even throw in something like the band of oni kidnapped a princess or something."
"That's the one where Momotaro banded together with a group of animals, right? I, can't say that I actually heard the story that much when I was a kid though... I think I forgot some parts of it." Yuri shyly admitted.
"If we're having Michael Bay and a traditional play, why not do a mash up of a musical and a play? It might may do the play poetic justice if we combined modern and olden music, considering how we might do something along the lines of action."
"That's a splendid idea! Maybe we can just do one or two sings within the play during really important parts, sort of like a Disney movie! Doing so that way will still allow us to have a musical element but not so much that we won't have enough time to prepare for it." Yuri smiled back approvingly towards Yukimura for her breakthrough. "I really like that approach."
Yuri's step-brother threw in offers to help out with some of the backstage work, specifically in the lighting and effects department. However, he also threw in a bit of an extra comment that seemed to be mentioning a certain somone he had a bit of a distaste for that occasionally violated dress code requirements - among other things.
"Even if that was true , there is no harm in trying . Besides , it is very well better than having some of us here taking the lead role ."
"If MY sister doesn't want to be in the play, she doesn't have too. Stop trying to make her do something she doesn't want to."
"It's funny... you all want to be in the background, I want to be in the spotlight... but none of you want me to be. So who would play the male lead in this play of ours? Since I am the best actor here."
Toshi drove home the point by reciting the famous Shakespeare line as he looked longingly at his football.
"O Romeo O Romeo Where Art Thou Romeo."
"Truly you have skills unparalleled. No one can match your skills of playing romantic-torn females."
"Ah, of course. If you really want to be male lead, then perhaps we should pick something with a simple male lead"
While Leo was thinking about potential stories, Yuri gave a sort of late response to the boy wielding a football - though she spoke to the class as a whole.
"There isn't any wrong with wanting to help with things at the backstage. Everything that happens out in front needs just as much support from behind. But, Hamasaki-kun does have a point. This might be one of the few chances you'll get to be able to act out in front of everyone. In the real world, most of us would probably be dismissed due to not having any sort of talent or experience.... So! Just do whichever sort of thing you really feel like doing. In a school play like this, talent is secondary to the will to try."
Wait a moment. For a second there, was there a hint of scorn in Yuri Nozomi's voice? No, it could've been.
Immediately, Leo continued on with a suggestion of doing a play like Snow White. Admitting that it wasn't the most exciting setup for an action story that Toshi desired - but Leo offered to take up the role of the charming prince if Toshi wouldn't.
"So what play are we doing? Or are we writing and performing an original?"
"Ao-chan, please be mindful about when lunch ends."
Yuri's first response to her friend was his lateness in comparision to the others whom had already made it to class. Nonetheless, the discussion continued onwards. Minor exchanges brining more refinement and shape to what class 2-A was going to do exactly for this play. Finally, Yuri rehiterated what the plan was, making a couple of final decisions to break certain ties from the previous discussion on certain details.
"Alright. So, we're going to do a variation on Snow White. We can do a couple of songs at the start and towards the end of the play. Along with the action scenes... this should be enough for us to have something nice and ready once the School Festival comes around in two weeks."
As for other details, Yuri confirmed the backend help offered by her Brother, Hilda, and Gyo. Additionally, there was one more important backstage person to adress.
"Yoroita-san, I shall have you partner up with Fujiyama-chan for work on meeting the music criteria for the play. I was originally going to match you up with Gyo-kun, however, since he is in charge of choreographing the action scenes, you can use Fujiyama as a go between for whatever collaborative you two need to do."
Despite Marcus' and Haruka's initial reaction, Yuri returned an amiable smile that said she wasn't going to take any alternative interpretations to her decision.
"I look forward to hear what sort of wonderful things you two will come up with!"
Thus, the play came to be something a bit more akin to a Disney movie. Maybe it was more accurate to say that the concessions the class made ended up making it one. Now that the overarching and hard details were set in stone, it was now time to move onto the other important topic of discussion. The casting of the characters to be played.
Basing it on the Disney Portrayal of Snow White, the play would need, at the very least, the Girl, the Hero, the Evil Witch, the Seven Dwarves, and Possibly the Mirror on the wall character. Yuri summarized for the class this necessary cast of characters. Quite a few of the students showed interest in being the various Dwarves, so that set of characters were immediately covered, and at least one student ended up volunteering himself for being the Mirror after joking about it. But the main parts of the cast, the Girl, Hero, and Villain, were still up to decision.
The class got stuck again when it came to deciding who would play these important characters. To solve it, Yuri went ahead and filled the positions based on what she heard earlier.
"How about... Hamasaki-san as the Hero, Kane-san as Snow White, and.... Shinji-kun as the Evil Witch? Yeah! That's perfect!"
In Yuri's mind, this sort of setup made perfect sense. Crossing her arms, Yuri nodded at a job well done. Great timing too; class was due to start in the next couple of minutes. Yuri was glad to be able to get things done with a bit of time to spare. The class deserved the last couple minutes of free time after such heavy discussion.
"Great job everyone! With this, we are ready to submit our plan to the student council. I will plan out the schedule for all of what we need to do to prepare and rehearse for the play and have it ready for tomorrow, of course, that will mean I shall need help from those of you who are organizing the big parts of this project. We can come up with when to do a video call later tonight if planning right after school is out of the question."
Yuri was hurriedly wrapping things up in preparation for the upcoming class. If anyone had reservations on what they or others were going to be doing up until the end of the Culture Festival, this was their last chance to voice it out.
