High over Novus IV, a frozen planet only recently claimed by humanity, a massive starship drifts silently through space. The USG New-Frontiers orbits the frozen planet with hopes of bringing rare metals home to Earth, it had been a year since the ship first arrived with the purpose of establishing a colony on the surface of Novus IV. Within the metal behemoth, people can be seen scrambling about, each with a purpose or task which was given to them by a superior. Control rooms and communications stations were abuzz with chatter that seemed panicked and worried. It had been 32 hours since the last communication was received from the glacial surface and the crew had to prepare for the worst. P-Sec squads were gearing up for a possible insurgency while the engineering crews were preparing for 'mass system failure' and the work-hours they'd have to pull to get everything running again. Inside the bridge, the scramble controlled and quiet as each station worked diligently to contact the mining colony on the planet below.

The colony, named Omicron Station, was tasked with mining the highly metallic planet and then shipping them back to Earth. Once it was time for a shipment to be made or supplied were needed, the USG New-Frontiers would send a transmission to Earth. When a ship left the surface most personnel assumed that it was merely a messenger or colonist reporting that comms systems had failed and the New-Frontiers prepared to rendezvous with the craft. Two hours later, the entire ship went dark. Few survived the initial Necromorph attack and their corpses became the monsters that stalked the hallways. Diagnostics of the ship report multiple decompressions, failing systems, and power loss making it clear that there's little chance of going home without help. Survivors must band together and find a way home, lest they become monsters themselves.

20 Years prior to the CEC establishing Omicron Station, EarthGov used the frozen planet as a black-site to conduct research on the Markers. A facility by the name of Site-19 was established and experiments began under the guise of "hostile environment" research. A Red Marker was brought to the site shortly after it was established, as expected tensions were high as EarthGov waited for results and hoped that the Novus IV didn't follow the paths of the previous colonies. Within two months people began experiencing symptoms of the Marker's interference. Insomnia, paranoia, and fits of rage were experienced by all who had contact with the Marker; the Necromorphs wiped out everyone in only a few days. EarthGov locked down the facility via remote access and played the disaster off as a storm destroying vital systems, coverups like this were quite common for EarthGov.

When the CEC proposed a mining colony on Novus IV, EarthGov jumped at the chance to get people on the planet once more. Scientists were sent on the USG New-Frontiers and the crew was told that they were there to analyze weather patterns and ensure the safety of the colony. Another lie. Their true purpose was to determine the fate of Site-19 and recover any data that was still intact.

Within the chaos of the Necromorph outbreak on Novus IV few EarthGov personnel survived but those that did are still dedicated to reaching Site-19 and then finding a way back to Earth.

--=-- Plot Breakdown --=--
Something brought our characters to Novus IV, whether it was a new mining job, a security contract, or secret operation by a shady government. The USG New-Frontiers left Earth carrying some 750 passengers, you were one of them. Employed by Concordance Extraction Corporation, they were sent to Novus IV with the purpose of setting up a mining colony with the promise of high pay. Things went smoothly for the first year with minimal breakdowns and crises. 371 after the colony was established, an outbreak of an infectious species known as Necromorphs wiped out nearly everyone and the chaos left the structures heavily damaged if not inoperable. Knowledge of the Necromorphs is scarce as EarthGov had done everything they could to keep their existence hidden and now our survivors find themselves battling an unknown, relentless enemy that will stop at nothing to consume all life on Novus. While getting home isn't impossible there will be many challenges the characters face on the way. The first challenge will be locating or contacting the other survivors without falling prey to the Necromorphs.

Within Dead Space: Frostbite, characters will be given tasks which then must be carried out to ensure their survival. The condition of Omicron Station is very poor, the weather is unpredictable, there are Necromorphs around every bend, there is currently no known way off of the surface. Characters must work to get off of the colony and onto the USG New-Frontiers which has its own set of problems. The USG New-Frontiers has suffered immense damage during the outbreak. Multiple life support systems have gone offline, many sections are depressurized, power systems have failed, and the engines aren't responding.

Using tools as weapons it seems that the Necromorphs can be held off, and a few of the Engineers are alive! Unfortunately, the Necromorphs want nothing more than to kill everyone, so fixing things might prove to be challenging. But I'm sure everything will be fine, provided our characters are smart enough to make the right decisions. Good luck out there!

--=-- Occupations --=--
  • The Concordance Extraction Corporation, also referred to as CEC, is a public trading company at the forefront of the deep space mining industry. They are the largest solar mining and extraction company in the Earth colonies and the fifth largest company in terms of market capital. The CEC is responsible for the creation of the giant Planet Cracker-class starships. There are many positions within the CEC ranging from Miner to Engineer to Pilot.
  • Planetside Security functions much like a twenty-first-century police force culture, enforcing ordinances, quelling riots, and generally 'keeping the peace'. P-Sec's officers are highly trained and given access to very powerful armaments, some officers are even recruited directly into high ranking positions of the EarthGov military.
  • The Earth Government Colonial Alliance, known also as Earth Government and EarthGov, is the executive branch of Earth and its colonies, responsible for administrating the territories that officially fall under its control. EarthGov often oversees illegal research and works diligently to cover up any mishaps related to it. Many members of EarthGov are under-cover, often lying about their jobs in order to conceal their true purpose.

--=-- Resource Integration Gear --=--
latest

Resource Integration Gear, or RIG for short, is an integrated health management and strength augmentation system that assists users in previously impossible and dangerous environments. RIGs come equipped with a health management system designed to monitor a wearer's well being, holographic displays for real-time updates, and communications systems to allow wearers to securely communicate via voice or text networks. RIGs also come equipped with oxygen reserves for operations within a vacuum, zero-grav maneuvering thrusters, and kinesis modules for moving heavy objects.

"Take their legs out, and they'll drag themselves toward you. Shoot off an arm, and they'll use their other arm to rip into you. Nope, the only real way to take these creatures out is to completely rip them apart."

Necromorphs are the main enemies in Dead Space. They are relentless, disgusting, horrible creatures that want nothing more than to rip you apart. The worst part is that they're pretty hard to kill too. Fight one at a time and you'll be okay, fight three at a time and you might make it out, fight ten at a time and you're dead. Necromorphs are crafty and will almost always find a way to get around.

The Slasher is created from a single human corpse and is one of the more common Necromorphs encountered in a typical outbreak. The Slasher is named for its specialized arms, which sport sharp blade-like protrusions of bone. These arms are sometimes created by altering the host's original arms, while in others the slashing arms are entirely new appendages sprouting from the shoulder blades. These blades are the Slashers' main weapon, but they are also used as means of stabilizing the creatures, making it easier to stand in place. The blades combined with the intensified power of the Slasher can even cut one's hand off.
  • latest

Leapers appear to be made from single human corpses, with the host body's modifications serving to give the Necromorph vastly increased mobility. Sporting razor-sharp fangs, along with a long scythe-tipped tail made from the victim's intestines and legs, they are extremely deadly foes. The musculature of the upper arm becomes more developed, and the fingers grow bladed claws for climbing and slashing with the hands becoming dislocated along with the thumbs moved to the back to create animal-like paws

--=--Tools/Weapons--=--
latest

When corpses are twisted and brought back to life with the sole purpose of turning you into one of them, anything can be a weapon. Tools that were once used for harvesting ore, collecting telemetry data, or even moving large objects will be re-purposed into the tools that will keep you from becoming a Necromorph.

The 211-V Plasma Cutter. Designed and manufactured by Schofield Tools, the 211-V is a tool designed to be used in mining operations. The Plasma Cutter delivers a cohesive pulse-stream, or "bolt", of ionized plasma when fired. It is capable of firing bolts vertically (primary firing mode) and horizontally (secondary firing mode). The Plasma Cutter is very accurate, utilizing three blue lasers to indicate the desired cutting plane.

The IM-822 Handheld Ore Cutter Line Gun, Line Gun for short, is a wide-beamed slicer with timed mines. Like the Plasma Cutter's secondary fire mode, the Line gun fires a horizontal beam of energy. Also like the Plasma Cutter, it is used for cutting down rocks and ore to smaller sizes, though is designed for more heavy duty ore that the Plasma Cutter cannot cut through.

The Pulse Rifle discharges ultra low caliber rounds at hypersonic speeds, each carrying tremendous amounts of kinetic energy: these rounds are designed to squash (or "mushroom") on impact, transferring their energy to the target and causing immense localized trauma. This effect is immediate and pronounced in unarmored targets, with impacts liquefying soft tissues and fracturing bones. The pulse rifle is most commonly used by security forces and military forces.

The SH-B1 Plasma Saw is designed for dissection of heavy duty materials in both on and off-site locations. Users are advised to always wear protective clothing when the saw is in use.

While this roleplay is NOT rated 18+, I feel inclined to point out that violence and gore are quite common in Dead Space and as such will likely appear in this roleplay.

dead_space_character_model_by_warnerator-d5n6g37.jpg
Occupation:
EarthGov Agent, CEC Miner
Bio:
A rather mysterious background, Elijah came to find work on Novus IV as one of the miners, trying to make a quick buck while hiding from his past. He often helped load up supplies or made sure everything was in working order. He was popular with the other workers, often being known as a generous man that would buy a round or two at the bar, or help cover shifts if someone got sick, but he had his demons as well. He often picked fights with P-Sec Officers, generally the higher ranking the better. He obviously had some connections to not lose his job, or else he wouldn't have been on Novus IV when the Necromorphs started to kill everyone. Now he survives, using his RIG to crush creatures skulls rather than loading cargo.
Other:
While he doesn't normally introduce himself by it, his fellow work buddies called him "Titan" due to his larger than normal RIG. While the RIG is bigger and heavier than default working RIGS, they are much tougher and help Elijah lift more.

:Age:
32

:Gender:
Male

:Height:
5'9 (175cm)

:Weight:
154lbs (70kg)

:Occupation:
CEC Engineer

:Biography:
Like most people, Virgil entered the workforce at the young age of 16. Though early in his career he was restricted to working in shops or as a secretary, Virgil studied General Engineering throughout high-school and later specialized once he entered university. Virgil attended university on the New Horizons Lunar Colony, which was the colony he grew up in.

Desperate to escape his boring life, Virgil began employment by the CEC as an Engineer. The travel that came with the position was exactly what he was looking for and he was quite happy in his position. Though the CEC didn't really offer anything in terms of moving up in the company, he was content to stay where he was in terms of his career.

By late 2511, many books had been published concerning "alien outbreaks" or "infestation" but most of them were written off as conspiracy theories. Virgil took deep interest in the books. At first he too thought that they were merely crazy theories by crazy anti-government fanatics. Over time he found himself believing in the theories as well, they made sense, and they made him just as paranoid as the ones he'd previously made fun of.

In early 2513, Virgil was contracted to accompany a colony ship as they set up a mining outpost on some planet far from Earth. To him, it was just another job but the fear of the "monstrous aliens" being real continued to take its toll on his mental health. In an act of "truth", as Virgil called it, he vandalized his own RIG. He drew wild symbols and etched markings into it, for a reason that not even he himself could find. While most people would have thought it was weird, it was quite common to mark a RIG in order to make it more personal.

Life on Omicron Station was fairly easy, systems rarely went down and things didn't often break. Most of the time, a storm would merely knock out an antenna and one of many communications systems would go down. When the Necromorph Incident began Virgil quickly locked himself in a closet, grabbing as many tools as he could. As much as he'd hoped his "truth" really was truth, he never realized how absolutely terrifying it was. Until now.

:Other:
As an engineer, and someone who bought into the conspiracy theories, Virgil's knowledge of engineering and the Necromorphs is quite high. But, his paranoia leaves him unable to trust most people. Prior to the outbreak, his mental state wasn't the best and the stressful conditions will stress it even more.

Jacob "Rookie" Thorne

547-658

:Age:
33

:Gender:
Male

:Height:
5'10 (177cm)

:Weight:
161lbs (70kg)

:Occupation:
P-Sec Officer

:Biography:
Jacob never wanted to be a soldier, he never wanted to carry a weapon, and he never wanted to have to threaten someone else's life. But things change and Jacob found himself in Junior P-Sec training while in his final years of high school. For the most part, Jacob enjoyed the exercises and workouts that came with his training and he enjoyed getting into shape.

Jacob never went to college or studied in a university, it was pointless to him. P-Sec didn't require any degree and the certification that he did need were given by the division. Jacob was less than thrilled by the training that followed the certifications. The weapons training reinforced his disliking for guns and the detainment training often left him sore.

To his surprise, the training seemed to be the worst part. Deployments were usually easy and it wasn't often that Jacob actually had to arrest someone. The biggest downside was the frequent redeployments and transfers that prevented him from getting comfortable anywhere.

When the opportunity arose to work at a son-to-be-established mining colony, Jacob hesitantly accepted. He'd heard stories about how dangerous the colonies were and hoped that Omicron Station would be quiet.

There was a sense of relief when Jacob found out that he'd be working on the USG New-Frontiers rather than on the surface below, and for a year things went well. On the day of the outbreak, Jacob wasn't scheduled for patrol until the evening though it is currently unknown where he is, or how he survived.

:Other:
Though he is a P-Sec Officer, Jacob has poor leadership skills and does not respond well to stressful situations.

Name: Sonjia Markovich Verne
Age: 28
Gender: Female
Height: 5'7
Weight: 120
RIG Number: 352-867
Occupation: CEC Planetary Geologist

Bio: Sonjia was born in Moscow to two high ranking EarthGov officials. She was expected for greatness due to her parent's contributions to society and for the most part, those expectations were met. She was prodigal in her studies and garnered much attention in her younger years. Despite her intelligence, Sonjia was also a bit of a rebel. She wanted adventures in her life not lecture halls. She wanted to live off planet. With all that they knew about space, her parents objected but she was stubborn as a mule. Against their wishes she pursued Geology and soon thereafter met, Sev, which gave her and her parents another thing to disagree on.

Shortly after graduation, Sonjia joined the CEC and married Sev much to her parent's displeasure. Ignoring their threats to disown her, Sonjia served alongside her beloved husband on the ISG Nakamato.

Despite how much they care for one another, circumstances and ill-fate have plagued the most recent years of their marriage, leading to them ultimately separating shortly after they arrived at Novus IV. The outbreak has made their relationship even more strained in present, forcing the struggling husband and wife to stay close and work together in order to survive.

--=--Character Sheet --=--
Name: Joan "Mother Bear" Ardent

Age: 36

Gender: Female

Height: 6'1"

Weight: 168 lbs

Appearance:

fed0e5ab4516708765c262bfe3a6690e.jpg

She has an athletic and muscular build and tends to dress in slightly baggy and "masculine" clothes. That and her extremely short hair lead to her being occasionally mistaken for a male. She tends to stand at her full height.

RIG Number: 473-581

Occupation: P-Sec Security Officer

Bio: Joan grew up as a child of wealthy government parents. She had two older brothers, both of whom got government jobs before she had even moved out. She decided she wanted to do something a little different, and managed to convince her parents to let her enter P-Sec training. And, so, that's what she ended up doing.

She's lukewarm about it: it's good to be doing something different from her brothers and parents, and she feels like sometimes she makes a difference, and she enjoys the fact that she can easily defend herself now. Other times she hates her job for the hard calls she may have to make someday and the fact that she's usually breaking up fights.

She accepted the assignment given to her like she accepted any other assignment, with the hope that it would turn out to be interesting. In the year that followed, it was mostly quiet, and she found herself trying to learn as much as she could about other people's experiences when she wasn't on duty.

Now that all hell's broken loose, she will fight to the death for the other survivors.

Other: She uses an Elite Security RIG with a grey and green paint job. She got her nickname from a rather motherly personality.
