Wyatt frowned, he held her tight against his frame and rocked them. His hands slid to cover her ears, holding her face against his. He kissed her nose softly, and then her lips. He couldn't erase her fear, the memory of losing her mother but he could help her to get through the storm. He held her there, close to him as the storm raged on. Every time the tree shook or the sky lit up he kissed her softly, reminding her that it was just them in that moment.

Wyatt's warmth and care settled her nerves. He held his hands over her ears and cradled her gently. Each kiss soothed her fragile nerves and she relaxed into his chest. Hearing his heartbeat so close to her body caused her to settle down in his lap. Soon, Jane was responding to each kiss, settling down until she was almost asleep. "Wyatt...." She buried her head into the crook of his neck, sighing sadly. "They didn't do a good job of surveying. What's down there? Do you think we can survive?"

Wyatt hushed her softly, rocking her still much like one would do to a small terrified child. "Don't worry about that now babygirl. You just get some sleep." he murmured pressing his lips to her temple. He rocked her until she had fallen limp in his arms. Wrapping her up in he blanket, Wyatt moved away from her, inching to the edge of the platform built to stare down into the darkness. He zoomed on the nightvision application of his helmet. There was nothing at first, just silence. Within a few minutes a large creature zoomed across the ground Wyatt followed as well as he could but he could not make out what it was, but it's roar was massive. The sound made him cringe, closing his eyes at he rumbling roar

Jane felt herself slipping into sleep as Wyatt rocked her. Her trembling ceased and she felt warmth as Wyatt tucked her in a blanket. She drifted off, blissfully unaware of her surroundings.

A roar startled Jane awake and she reached for a knife that wasn't there. She struggled against the blanket until she caught sight of Wyatt. She settled down, looking over at him. She was happy he was there as she couldn't imagine surviving without him. "What's going on?" She whispered, blinking at him as she yawned.

Wyatt turned to look at her with an unreadable expression. The roar came, closer this time and Wyatt shrunk away from the edge of the platform. Reaching into his pack, he pulled out the loaded weapon. He didn't know what could come try and find them but he figured it wasn't immune to bullets. He knew the only way they'd find out is to look, to research. His heart fluttered uneasily as the cogs of his mind began to turn, creating a plan. He would have to eventually go down there.

Jane's eyes widened at the roar and she slipped from the blankets. Carefully, she walked over to her pack where her bow rest against it. She grabbed it, nocking an arrow and turning dark eyes towards Wyatt. She flinched from the lightning, but moved to crouch by Wyatt. "Don't. Don't do whatever you're thinking." She hissed, hair standing on end as another roar rippled through the air.

Wyatt pressed a finger to her lips. "It's hunting." he mouthed. Reaching for her helmet he slid it onto her head and pressed the side button enabling the night vision. Together they peeked over the edge of the platform. The creature was too fast to get a good image of but it was positively seeking out the smell that was causing it to come back to this area of the woods. Wyatt frowned, they had nothing that would mask their scent.

The creature was too fast for Jane to make out. The movements confirmed it was hunting, however, and she looked at Wyatt. They had nothing to defend themselves or mask their scent. The thing was too fast for Jane to see, let alone get a good shot at. If they stayed in the tree the night, perhaps it would disappear with the sun. Or at least be ore visible for her to hunt.

The storm around them dissipated and Jane felt her shoulders tension release slightly. She longed for the couch in her old room that had the massage setting she so desired. Even the heated tub, with very little water on the ship would be a welcome. Anything to drive the effects of fear from her body. She leaned over, running fingers through Wyatt's hair longingly. She did not know how to get them out of their situation. Jane was filled with remorse that she had promised Wyatt she would look after him. She had been a fool to think she could...

Wyatt recorded what he could with his helmet, uplinking the research up to their team back on la vedette navire. He held fast until his eyes grew too heavy to keep open. he crawled over to beneath the canopy and rolled under the blanket. With half opened eyes he held his arms out wanting to have her warmth, have her in his arms.

Jane sat for long time, her whole body still as a gargoyle. Watching....waiting....

Eventually she grew too tired, her fingers fiddling with the helmet. She took it off and moved to rest in Wyatt's arms. As she did, she brought the helmet up towards her face. She played with the settings, grunting as she remembered she could pause some of the footage. She put the helmet down, too tired to mess with it. All she wanted was Wyatt's loving embrace.

Wyatt crushed her against his frame and with his nose burrowed in her hair he fell asleep. Maybe it was the diskus, maybe it was the platform but sunrise came and Wyatt awoke, very much alive. He blinked his eyes at the brightness around them.

"Jane, sweetheart." he whispered, kissing her forehead to wake her. He slid out from beneath the blanket and to the edge of the platform looking down. There was nothing stirring beneath, no sounds of roaring and no evidence a creature was ever there except for the large gash marks on the tree, Whatever it was, it had tried finding them last night. They had the day to find somewhere else, when darkness fell they wouldn't be that lucky one more night.

Jane didn't remember falling asleep. The last thing she had remembered was being curled up against Wyatt's warmth and strong frame. She stirred at his call, groaning. "Mmmm?" She mumbled, refusing to open her eyes. "One more round..." She whispered, chuckling as she rolled back under the blankets.

Something poking her side convinced her to finally open her eyes. The helmet stared back at her and she sighed.

"Stay here." Wyatt ordered turning to look at her with a stern glance. He sheathed his knife and holstered his gun in his waist before scaling down off the platform. He clasped the gun in his hand. Staying up against the tree he ran his hands along the gashes in the wood. This was a lot bigger than he had anticipated. He took a picture with the wristband and opened up communication. Officer Rollins came onto the projected hologram.

"Wyatt." he spoke.

"Are you kidding me? You said there was nothing like this scanned. When did you scan? Only during the day?" Wyatt asked as he continued into the woods.

"It was the best time to scan Wyatt. No fuss son, you're alive." he shrugged. Wyatt growled. No one was coming back for him and Jane. If they couldn't make this planet work, they would be gone to the next planet in no time.

Jane got up and stretched lazily. She began packing everything up, hearing Wyatt's anger drift up to her. She couldn't make out what he was saying but knew enough to know it couldn't be good. She looked down at him, preparing to toss their bags over the platform. Her stomach was growling, but thankfully there seemed to be plenty of vegetation. "Wyatt, get ready to catch." She hesitated, blinking as she realized what he was doing must be important. Her only question was why was he poking at their tree?

Her whole body stiffened in concern as she saw the claw marks. "Wyatt...."

Wyatt turned off the video chat and looked up at her. He looked up at Jane and held his hands up. She tossed down the packs and then Wyatt watched her scale down, ready to catch her if she fell. He smiled knowing she wasn't a delicate flower, the woman was trained and knew what she was doing.

"We have till the sun starts setting to find out what the hell it is, how to kill it and how many there are." He bent down grabbing the diskus and slinging the pack over his back.

Jane scaled down the tree, looking at him with dark eyes. "Only til then? I don't suppose there's a way to hole up is there?" She slung her bag over her shoulder, one hand gripping her bow and the other moving to lace with his. "Okay, best guess is a feline of some kind. That might explain it being nocturnal. In that case it would be best to try to track it to it's lair and kill it there. I'm a crack shot..."

She paused, taking a deep breath. "Or...we could find somewhere to hole up and have a nice fun time while we wait?" She grinned, her attempts at humor failing in her own ears.

Wyatt smiled over at her, squeezing her fingers in his. Reaching for the bottle of water with his free hand he took a sip, handing it over to her afterwards. The ground was still slightly wet but the tracks that could have been followed were barely visible. Wyatt's mind raced. The creature in the video in their helmets had a large body. For some reason he felt it was more alien than they knew. Tiger like in prowess, but there was something malevolent about it. The hairs on the back of his neck pricked. He felt as if they were playing a large game of cat and mouse.

Jane took a sip of water and then attached the bottle to her backpack. "Wyatt....?" She cocked her head to the side, waiting to hear from him on how they were to proceed. The last thing she wanted was to chase down an unknown creature, but she would if he asked her to. For some odd reason, the speed it possessed scared her. Even if she were able to get a shot, she highly doubted she could kill it. She highly doubted just they alone could.

Then again, if they didn't try something then the ship would abandon them and leave them on this planet to fend for themselves. "We need a better strategy..." She whispered, her eyes finding the claw marks on the tree. They needed a strategy and better shelter. Something more secure would help her feel safe. She peeled off her backpack, dumping it before bending over a large puddle.

With nothing more than a sigh, she bellyflopped into it, covering herself in mud.

Wyatt watched her with amusement and laughed when he saw her covered in mud.

"If I knew you were going to get all dirty, I would have suggested a different way darling." Wyatt winked at her. He worked through his thoughts and then pulled up the map.

"I suggest we find shelter, one that we can close away. I suggest we head for the caves and cavern areas up here." he pointed. "We draw it out every night, learn more about it and when we're ready, we'll hunt it down." Wyatt offered not knowing if it would sit as a plan to use or not.

Jane listened, scooping up a handful of mud and walking up behind him. She splat it against his back, rubbing it in and nodding before realizing he couldn't see her. "That sounds good. Somehow a secure shelter sounds better to me than being a cat's play toy stuck in a tree."

She blushed to her ears at his suggestion and snorted. "It will cover our scent. If that thing hunts that way that will give us some better knowledge right?" She took her muddy hands and rest them on his chest as she slid in front of him. "Well, if it's dirt you want...we could have a go and roll around in it? Two jobs handled at once?" She smirked, eyes glittering dangerously as she pushed him backward gently.
