There was a time when the Ancients roamed the world. They were powerful creatures created by the Gods with the power to either create, or destroy. They have lived and fought together, claiming territories and expanding the view of their world, Terraden.

But as time passed, they have evolved into lesser beings that now traverse the globe: humans, creatures, and monsters. The humans rose to be the highest form of beings of Terraden, and they are divided into three kinds-two of which are at peace, while the last one which are despised by the other races.

The Descendants, the Demi Humans, and the Corrupted Humans.

In a barren desolate mountain lies the Kingdom of Terios, home to the local Descendants and Demi Humans.Since the Kingdom is in a barren area, the locals have learned to make use of what they have. Most architectures in the area were made out of stone, ores and minerals that are found on the nearby caves.

They also learned to tame dragons which were very common in the area. They used them as a transport for both the locals and resources although the fiercer ones were kept as battle mounts for the soldiers of the kingdom.

While the Kingdom is in a barren area, many adventurers still visit and apply to the guild.A particular tall figure stood in front of the guild board as he looks at its content. He was wearing a cloak so its hard to tell his appearance from afar but the locals did not mind as they were already used with newcomers.

A young female traveler traversed through the townsfolk as she search for any means of information about this Kingdom. She was new here, after all.

She saw an information board and what appears to be someone reading the inscriptions and posts of it. She walked to it and stopped to read the its contents.

"Oh, hey! Do you live here in this kingdom?" She asked the cloaked person beside her.

The cloaked man did not respond immediately as he was busy looking for something but decided to reply as he figured out it would be rude if he didn't. "No, I'm from the eastern continent near the Xarian region" he replied to her in a cold tone making it clear that he wasn't in the mood to talk.

He was never really the type to talk, he only talks simply to avoid being rude. Many locals in Xarcos knew who he was though but they refer to him as "Kurohomura" which in Terian tongue means Black Flame. Being a local in Xarcos means that you have a natural affinity for Water making it quite rare for anyone to appear with a different element, especially Fire. The locals of Xarcos was never really used to seeing anyone with a different element, in fact they were afraid of them.

After looking thoroughly through the board, he decided to go outside. Just as he was about to head to a tavern, a silhouette of a black wyvern passed across the sky. He immediately noticed its unique sword like tail which was a description of the black wyvern Xifos, its bounty was 1 Gold and 50 Silver coins. The cloaked man immediately went after it, going for an attempt to slay Xifos and get its bounty.

"Hey!" She called after him. Oh my, how dare he set off just like that? Plus, he was just new to this place too.

It was not until she saw a shadow passed across the place, and looked up to see a wyvern passing by. Taking one of her journals from her satchel, she opened one to skim its pages.

Dragons are very native in this area, and the locals do not mind it whatsoever. In fact, they're a part of their everyday living.

She found a page, and read it. It is a black wyvern which bears the name of Xifos, unique for its striking sword resemblance of its tail, common in this area. It bears a bounty of 1 gold and 50 silver coins. Although she'd prefer to observe this wyvern and perhaps sketch it in one of her journals, her almost-empty pockets beckoned otherwise.

This could be enough to sustain her for 3 days in the kingdom! Realizing its worth, she set off to follow the cloaked man.

The cloaked man sprinted pass through the crowd, bumping many of the locals in the process. While most of them got angry, he din't have time to apologize as he was busy tracking down the wyvern. After running for awhile he decided to stop and catch his breath. He didn't even realized that he was already out of civilization until he looked around.

The area is desolated with no signs of life, the bones of other creatures scatter around suggesting that the local dragons and wyverns killed them. There's only mountains and other rock formations everywhere he looked.

He saw a trail of what looks like a sword being dragged around. Xifos he thought of the wyvern's name as he continues to follow its trail.

She traversed through the crowd, excusing herself through. As she ran past the large stone carved walls of the kingdom, away from all the citizens and into the vast, barren rocky land, she spotted the cloaked man already 50 meters away from her.

Panting, she put on her hood and best decided that she'll do this alone. She respected those kind of adventurers who'd go solo as she did not want to intrude the purposes of their travels.

Her feline ears twitched as she heard faint slithering from afar. Gripping the handle of her weapon, she sprinted towards the source.

The trail led him towards an entrance of a cave and since its dark, he decided to use his fire element to create a temporary light source. After walking for what feels like an eternity, he stopped to check the trail that seemed to stop right where he was standing. A pair of red eyes glowed from a distance, signaling that either Xifos or another dragon has spotted him. He took a deep breath as he started channeling a spell, "Hear me, ancient of flames" a crimson circle appeared beneath him "With flames that scorched the very land itself, let them feel your burning wrath" he raised his hand towards the glowing eyes "Primordial Burst" the ground where the glowing eyes are, immediately erupted as a vicious stream of fire appeared from below. He immediately ran away as the cave ceiling started to collapse due to his spell.

He waited outside to see if its still alive. This was the first time he was able to unleash a fire spell in years ever since he left Xarcos, and he knows very well that his fire spells are not in full power. But even so he's still going to claim its bounty one way or another.

He felt a presence a few meters behind him accompanied by a snake like noise. Giant snakes huh? he thought to himself as he slowly unsheathed his sword but something feels off. He immediately felt a swinging motion behind him as if someone was aiming to cut his head with a sword, he instinctively rolled away and looked at the attacker. It wasn't a giant snake like thought instead it was Xifos. This is bad, if its here then what was that back in the cave? the rocks from the collapsed cave immediately exploded as a green dragon emerged from the rubble which also had a sword like tail. "Well, what do you know? the infamous black land dragon is also here huh?" he said mockingly as he looked at it before assuming his stance.

The feline-eared Demi human began sprinting towards an area after she heard a crashing noise that definitely did not come from any creature. As she approached a large pile of boulders, she suddenly felt uneasy. Her senses tingled as she felt two large presences just behind this rocky formation.

Definitely more than one dragon.
She climbed up, behind the rock wall as she carefully peered over the edge.

It's the wyvern, Xifos! And another dragon as well? She tried to reach for her journal again, but something caught her eye.

It was the cloaked man assuming a combat stance before the two dragons. Sighing, she was thinking that she'll leave him doing his own thing, but then she realized he was outnumbered. Quickly taking her journal out, she skimmed the pages until she found the one she was looking for.

Viridesce, a jade-green dragon who also bears the sword tail-resemblance with the wyvern, Xifos. But dear, oh dear. This one's much stronger-looking and surely, this guy can't handle a situation like this.

Putting back her journal where it belongs, she positioned herself, ready to pounce as her long, black slender tail slowly swayed from side to side.

She then sets off, and muttered "Icy Dust," as she shot a small light blue orb from her hand. Targeted between the dragons, it hit the ground and a cloud of cold fog burst throughout the area. She then landed beside the hooded guy, holding a long staff in a defensive stance, protecting them.

"Go while you still can. The effects of the spell only lasts seconds!"

"Run away? you think you can handle both Xifos and the black land dragon at the same time? don't make me laugh" he started to enhance his sword by applying a fire effect to it. He quickly rushed towards Xifos who hasn't made a move yet and attempted to cut off its tail. Xifos simply just parried against the attack with its tail and mimicked his attack.

He immediately jumped mid air and threw a smoke bomb at it, shutting off its vision. After falling back to the ground, he made a quick dash towards its neck delivering an upward crescent slash and jumped back to avoid any counter attack. Xifos writhed in pain as it started to wildly swing its tail. He managed to skillfully avoid its attacks by repeatedly jumping from one direction to another. Xifos eventually got tired of swinging its tail at him.

He took advantage of this as he aimed his hand towards its face "Fire bolt" he launched a fire ball towards its face. Xifos swallowed the fire ball and looked at him fiercely. Fool he was aiming for that result right from the start "Burst" the fire ball exploded inside its mouth making it fall to the ground.

The man looked at the hybrid who still hasn't made a move yet. "Well? are you gonna kill that or what?" he said in a mocking tone while not noticing that Xifos is still alive.

The Demi Human huffed in frustration, with ears turning back while her tail swayed back and forth. This guy is too irritating alright.

Gripping her staff, she violently slammed it against the ground as it altered into a large scythe, using magic. With a turn of her heel, she bolted towards Viridesce.

The jade-green dragon was going in for a left jab towards her side with a swing of its tail. It missed her as she instinctively pounced over it and rolled to the ground, hands on her weapon.

With a swing of her scythe, its blade caught the underside of its tail, just as it was about to throw another swing, this time with its tail blade. Although the blade did not fully slice the whole vertebrae, it was stuck as it caused the Demi Human to be dragged and tossed along with the swinging of its tail.

The dragon roared in pain as it kept swinging to remove the feline hybrid off its tail. But then as it was about to assumingly slam her to the ground, she tossed herself off and unto its back while pulling the blade hard enough.

A crushing and cracking sound was heard as the blade of her scythe finally left its former position. A sword-tipped extension vertebrae fell unto the rocks below, with purple blood gushing out of it as it continue to writhe involuntarily.

This caused the Viridesce to roar out in pain, as a piece of itself was removed. With the skin, muscle and bone. The Demi swung her scythe once more, and its blade caught the neck of the dragon this time. Pulling enough, she was able to constrict the dragon from writhing too much.

Her ears twitched towards the cloaked man. The Xifos behind him started to stir from its fallen state.

"Behind you!", she yelled at him.

He looked at Xifos who's slowly rising up, black smoke started to appear from its mouth signifying its increased power. He covered his eyes with his left arm while throwing a flash bomb. The strong light caused by the flash bomb momentarily stunned Xifos. He took this chance to cast Fire bolt but Xifos countered it by releasing a fire ball of its own while enhancing its tail with fire.

The black wyvern swung its tail in a downward direction aiming to split him in half. He managed to block the attack but the wyvern immediately followed it up with a side swing which knocked off the sword from his hands.

It did not stop there as the black wyvern immediately flapped its wings creating a strong gust that sent him flying to a large rock. The strong impact caused him to lose his strength as he tried to raise his arm but failed in doing so.

The black wyvern started to open its mouth as flames slowly came out.

"Frost Bite!", the feline hybrid casted quickly as the blade of her scythe glowed blue on the dragon's wound on its neck. Frosts of ice materialized at the blade as the surrounding skin of the neck wound started to blacken and harden, as wisps of smoke hissed. The dragon roared once more.

With a quick large slash on its neck, she jumped off the dragon's back to avoid the constant violent thrashing of its body from the pain.

She then dashed towards Xifos as her bloodied scythe magically altered into a staff once more. While gripping her weapon, she jumped off the ground as she violently slammed her staff against the side of the head of the black wyvern, which caused it to be in a daze for a few seconds from the impact.

Clearly seeing she's the new target, Xifos swung its scorching tail-blade towards her. She deflected the attack with her staff, but the force of its impact caused her to slightly lose her balance as her knees shook.

The wyvern released a fire ball from its mouth towards her in such a short time, that she had to fall back quickly and avoid the attack.

The Viridesce started to recover from its state as it roared once more, loudly, as the sound rung in her sensitive feline ears. It crawled towards her as the Xifos slithered in the same direction as well.

"D-damn it", teeth gritted, the pained Demi altered her weapon into a scythe again. Running towards the hooded guy, she assumed a defensive stance, and "Anima Glacies: Impetus!", holding out her hand, a long, slithering entity materialized from frost and ice, on her hand. With a swing of her arm, it shot out and bolted towards Xifos.

It hit the black wyvern, but Xifos managed to counter it again with a fire ball just as it was about to bolt towards it again. Out of options, the hybrid nudged the man behind her while still assuming a defensive stance for them.

"Got any other ideas?"

"Fall back for now.." he said as he slowly tries to stand. "Try to use any spell that creates some sort of cover" he checked his pocket for any remaining bombs, but there was nothing left.

The black wyvern, Xifos slowly started making its advance along with Viridesce, making it clear that they intend to finish them off. This leaves me no choice then he took a deep breath as two magic circles appeared beneath him, the inner one being crimson while the outer one is black. "Shadow bind" black chains started to appear beneath Xifos and Viridesce as it tied them down.

"Hear me, ancient of flames" the black wyvern and the green dragon struggled to get out of the chains but unfortunately for them, the chains only tightened its grip the more they struggled. "With flames that scorched the very land itself, let them feel your burning wrath" his consciousness started to slowly fade away from fatigue Not yet.. he looked at the wyvern and the dragon one last time.

You better run away after this "Primordial Burst" the ground beneath Xifos and Viridesce erupted as a vicious stream of fire appeared from below, the burst of flames were so strong that it even melted the black chains. The green dragon collapsed from taking too much damage while the black wyvern roared loudly as it started to glow red.

His consciousness gave up as he collapsed on the ground while Xifos opened its mouth releasing a stream of fire.

"Did he seriously just fainted on me?!" Despite the fact that the guy she was protecting fell from exhaustion, he managed to incapacitate the Viridesce with only Xifos to worry about. The now-red black wyvern advanced towards the two.

Remembering what the guy told her, the feline hybrid retreated her weapon. Clenching her fist in front of her, a small glowing blue orb formed around her gloved fingers.

"Icy Dust."

She then threw the orb unto the ground and exploded a thick cold fog around the area, obscuring Xifos' field of vision. The effects of the spell were limited, so she then proceeded to carry the hooded guy around her back. She found a sword lying around that seemed to belong to the guy. Taking the sword and the unconscious man, she sets off.

Pouncing off, she dashed away from the fog-covered dragon as fast as she could while carefully carrying the guy.

After a few hundred meters of running, she looked back to see if Xifos was still after them. To her surprise, Xifos approached the Viridesce and circled around it. It nestled up against it and closed its eyes as it finally calmed down.

She'll have to add these new info in her journals later, as the Demi has to care for this guy for now.

Entering the kingdom's huge stone-carved walls, dusk slowly approached the horizon, the creatures of the night began to roam the rocky region.

• END OF CHAPTER 1 •

After escaping the wrath of Xifos and Viridesce, Xeron Crestfield found himself unconscious while being carried by a mysterious hybrid girl. The main reason he passed out is because of casting Primordial Burst twice in one day. Primordial Burst is known as an ancient spell that originated from the Kingdom of Aster, but the current origin of how the spell was made is still a mystery.

There are currently 24 ancient spells scattered around Terraden, as scholars from each kingdom try to discover more. Ancient spells can be either from one element or a combination of two and because of their destructive power, many mages were advised to only cast one if its necessary. Casting ancient spells causes fatigue and only a few has managed to cast it twice on the same day without passing out. One weak point of ancient spells is that they require a certain chant in order to work leaving their caster vulnerable to any attack , and that's why multi cast was created.

Multi cast is the ability to perform two spells at the same time, primarily created to cover the weakness of ancient spells. By casting a binding spell on the target, the ancient spell will be sure to hit as long as the binding spell binds its target long enough for the chant to finish. Multi cast is not limited to a basic spell and ancient spell combination as anyone can freely create their own.

After being unconscious for quite some time, Xeron regained consciousness as he slowly opened his eyes.

The Demi human took a lot of time and strength from the previous nights just to find a place for them to stay and care for the unconscious person she carried.

It took a lot of bargaining from walking to one inn to another, since she had little to afford a night or two. But after an exhausting hour later, a kind middle aged lady took notice of the tired hybrid carrying an unconscious person and offered them a place to stay at her home.

The exhausted Demi slept on a chair beside the bed where the unconscious guy lays.

Despite the fact that she's still exhausted from the nights before, her ears instinctively twitch towards the black-haired guy who's starting to stir from his sleep.

He opened his eyes only to see himself in a room of a house. As he looked around, he saw the hybrid girl from before whose sleeping in a chair, Xeron sighed as he thought of the trouble that he caused her while he was unconscious. He took a crumpled piece of paper from his pocket and wrote a letter saying that he was grateful for having his life saved by her.

He took his sword and checked his belongings one last time before gently opening a window. As he was about to jump, he remembered having a scroll containing the spell Chrono Blast. He took the scroll that was inside his cloak and left it near the note which was placed on the bed.

He then proceeded to jump out of the window. As he landed on the ground, he immediately made his way to the guild.

She woke up with a jolt. She felt a presence left her surrounding area as she recognized the room she was in. Faint streams of sunlight can be seen, peeking out of the clouds in the morning sky by the open window.

Rubbing her eyes, she tried to recollect her thoughts through the morning drowsiness of dawn. Although the first thing that caught her eye was an empty bed beside her.

"What the- oh yeah, rough night last night... where am I? Oh, I'm in that lady's house... what was her name again? Was it Madame Laloise...?"

"...wait... he's gone again?!"

"Are you kidding me?!", she exclaimed feeling agitated, with hands on her head as she realized the presence that left the area while she was asleep was him. She was about to throw a fit when she saw a note and a small scroll on the neatly folded bed. Picking them both up, she read first the note that stated his gratitude to her for saving him. She was about to open the scroll to read its contents, when her ears twitched towards the direction below, signaling a presence has entered the house.

She stood up to open the door. She then proceeded to check the downstairs area by the staircase to see if someone was there, and only saw Madame Laloise in the dining area arranging a bouquet of hydrangeas.

She let out a meow, which caused the middle aged lady to look up at her.

"Oh Ryen, you're finally awake? How's the young man up there? Is he still sleeping?"

"No, he left actually," Ryen replied as she started to descend down the stairs.

"What? This early?" The Laloise lady gasped, "He didn't even ate before he go?"

"Yeah," Ryen sighed. "Although he did leave a note before he left. Which is, alright I guess... it means he can finally be on his own, while I continue exploring the kingdom!", she grinned at the lady.

"Ahh... one of the joys of being an adventurer." Madame Laloise replied with a smile. "Say, what did he write on his note before he left?"

"Oh wait, I'll get it. Oh, here it is... it says... huh?", she pulled out the wrong note. On the scroll, it stated a fire-type spell under the name, Chrono Blast. With a scorned face, she let out a frustrated sigh. "This belongs to him, isn't it?" She doesn't know any other one who wields the fire element except for him.

"Are you alright?"

"This will be the last damn time I'll be finding him. After that, done. Just. Done. Then after that, I can go back here to rest or maybe help this lady attend her garden thing or whatever.
" She excused herself from Madame Laloise as she went upstairs to shower, get her weapon and stuff ready, and proceed to follow the scent of the mysterious man to return one of his supposed belongings.

Xeron spent the entire day going back and forth from the guild, doing various extermination quest. He was trying to earn enough money to buy more equipment but since the prices are ridiculously high, he has no choice but to earn as much as he can for the day. As he was about to set off on another quest, he got bothered by something as if he forgot to do something important.

Oh yeah, I forgot to remove the seal from the Chrono Blast scroll he simply just shrugged it off as he had other things to worry about. After completing his last quest for the day, Xeron headed back to the Kingdom as it was already nightfall. Instead of going to an inn, he decided to go to the far side of the Kingdom.

He decided to stay in the abandoned building to avoid wasting the money that he earned I'll just get my reward tomorrow he thought as he took two papers out of his pocket. One of them contains the contract for the extermination quest while the other one contains the list of things that he needs.

He received a headache just by looking at the prices, he sighed as he returned the papers back to his pocket. Buying a backpack is definitely the first thing that he needs to do since his pocket can only contain so much. He decided to sit down and lean his back on the wall as he went to sleep.
