Final Chapter
"The Signal, Goodbye Realm of Despair"
"Ohhhh?! Noooo waaay..."
The votes on the monitor were clear. Save had been the choice made, earning a heavy, shuddering sigh of relief from Holder. "Good," Stan said, having recovered slightly. He was rubbing at his eyes, obscuring how read and tired they looked. "Jefferson... That prick deserved nothing better."
Junko rubbed her hands together and laughed. "Oh, yes! Spare, huh? I can barely believe it! If you saw people dying one by one with your own eyes... Hope dictates that you act all high-and-mighty and say 'I'm definitely gonna stop it this time!', right!? That's why...
That's why...!"
"... This is so predictable. You guys did exactly as I thought you would... that's so lame! You're useless! Annoying, annoying, annoying! Why would you do that?! You're supposed to take the option I didn't see coming!"
Junko threw up her hands in exasperation. "Hope is harmony. A just heart, moving toward the light. That is all. Despair is hope's polar opposite. It is messy and confusing. It swallows up love, hatred, and everything else. Because not knowing where you will end up is despair. Despair is even what you cannot predict... And so, guess you found your hope in the end, huh? Boooring!"
"Spare me your psychobabble," Nigel said to Junko. "Easy way out? We're not your fucking social experiment. All this talk about despair... hope always wins in the end now matter how late it comes."
"That's a fail if I've ever seen one! That means out of five trials... you managed to pass three of them! That means you win! The game is over!"
Jude looked around in confusion. "... Really? That's it?"
"That's it! We'll just call the former sheriff up and tell him we found the killer! After that, we'll enjoy a nice rest... just in time for the second game!"
"Second game?!" Diana cried.
"What? You thought you were gonna leave or somethin'...? Upupu... is that supposed to be a joke? You're trapped in the dark place. There's no leaving here!"
Shuten-Douji didn't seem to perturbed by this as she took another swig from her sake plate. "Hehehe... I guess a perfect record is the only thing to try and reach now then..."
"Disguise it all you want, we defied your expectations to give in to despair and held on to hope!" Kyoko exclaimed to Monokuma, and by extension, Junko, "We'll play your second game if we have to, as long as it means Holder lives! We'll play it again and again if it means the hope that one day, we'll come back home lives on!"
But then a voice boomed from somewhere outside the room.
"There is salvation... in the light."
The room began to rumble, the wall opposite the hall beginning to crumble and fall away. A bright shining light blinded the group. "I have arrived."
A man in a diving suit floated into the room silently, his diving helmet shrouded in a bright light. Stepping from the wall of light were a group of individuals.
One boy held up a hand, extending the light to bounce throughout the room so that no shadow could be cast.
Running to her son, Wanda wrapped her arms around the boy.
"Oh, Billy! I'm glad you're here. Are you okay? I hope you didn't hurt yourself getting here."
"U-Uhh--" Billy accepted the hug warmly, though he did seem mildly concerned about the hug blowing that cool entrance of his. "... It's fine. I'm fine. I'm just glad you're... here. Glad you're okay."
"Deanna... Jake... so good to see you two again."
"!"
Kyoko let out an audible gasp when the bespectacled young man, who bore an uncanny resemblance to a certain Ultimate Impostor they had known early on in the event, would appear before the group, seeming to know a few people around. A look of genuine surprise, born out of a hope that was answered no doubt, was visible on her features, as an unexpected person seemed to come to their rescue.
A group of people, along with a certain young man whose name was definitely...
"... You certainly took your sweet time, Byakuya Togami," Kyoko said with a tone that had been unlike how she usually was over the course of the killing game, her tone being one that indicated a familiar friendliness toward a person whom she was definitely familiar with. The very notion that she had a smile on her face was also quite unlike her. Looked like her prayers were finally being answered.
"I'm disappointed. No warm greeting for me?" She proceeded to inquire half-jokingly, exuding a far more openly confident and eager mien than ever before.
"Hmph." Byakuya regarded Kyoko with a slight glance, giving her no more attention than if he'd just spoken to her moments before. "A lot's happened. What's got you looking so pleased? Lose your cool, Kirigiri?"
"That's..." Diana stared at Byuakuya, her voice caught in her throat. She had so much to say, but there was just no time say any of it. All Diana could do was hope and pray that this was the end of it all.
Finally, a stern-looking bald man walked out. He nodded toward the mother and son.
"It's good to finally see you in person, Wanda. This is the place it seems? Hmm. Where is Junko?"
Wanda looked to the man, then pointed toward Junko. "Zaheer... she's over there."
Junko turned on the newcomers, looking listless.
"You've arrived sooner than I expected. All thanks to the Witch... Great! The game where you throw my words back at me is over! I guess everyone's happy now, huh? Now that you're here, I guess I have to end my part in this experiment..."
Junko leapt backward into the air so that she was standing in the middle of the podiums. A chair rose up behind her as she delicately sat down upon it. Monokuma leaped into her arms and she waved.
"I'm just gonna go. It's been fun while it lasted! Your saviors may be here, but the events you experienced won't be forgotten, will they? Just remember, even if the world is happy, it's meaningless if you aren't happy." Junko's chair began to lower into the ground, causing her to slowly disappear from view. "Dear Mother won't be too happy the diver's here. She'll probably try one last thing to make you stay! Good luck~! Let's play again some day!"
Once Junko was gone, Zaheer shook his head. "That Junko Enoshima... she is not the one I wanted."
The diver spoke again. "These are my saviors... and I am the light. I've come to free you from the clutches of the dark presence. Though you've lost along the way, their sacrifices will not be in vain. You held on until the end... and for that reason, my power is at its strongest." He still hovered off the ground, his face hidden behind the diving helmet of light. He raised a hand. "First, two more lost souls must be freed."
As he said this, both Diana and Jude cried out, falling to their knees. "What the... hell...?!"
"What is this...?!"
As they cowered, the roof of the hotel began to give way. The wall of light started to fade, casting shadows over the room and counteracting against Billy's magic. While the group was supposed to be inside the casino, the roof gave way to reveal the group was standing outside. Rain and wind burst through, whipping at them. On the horizon was the unmistakable sight of a tornado.
"We must leave," said the diver, starting to float up into the sky. "Meet me at the lighthouse. There, you may be saved."
However, in the forest that separated the group from the lighthouse beyond emerged two figures. One, the group knew far too well.
The masked man, Jason Voorhees, charged at the group with his machete, ready to impede the group's progress. Their stalker was here to be their final challenge.
Despite Wanda and the newcomers retaining their powers, Jason had a bodyguard of his own with powers. A woman stepped out from the forest after Jason, her eyes glowing white.
"Another lost soul."
"That is not the Korra I know," Zaheer muttered. The woman's hands glowed, balls of fire flying at Zaheer, Billy, and Wanda moments later. They would have their hands full for the moment, leaving everyone else at the mercy of Jason.
Finally, a girl stood alone off in the distance. Even with the rain falling down around her, she stood as still as a statue.
