  • So many newbies lately! Here is a very important PSA about one of our most vital content policies! Read it even if you are an ancient member!
"Eh, it probably won't be that harsh, but there is gonna be a lot of pressure on them...You know," Lea said, pausing to make sure the newbies weren't around. "After the recent struggle on the front, they're gonna crack the whip on us all."

Last week there had been two major mythic forts lost to the humans on the front lines, placing them in a more vulnerable position. While it was still on the down low to avoid decreased morale, most of the veterans had an idea of the situation.

Kohana and the others set now emptied trays in a stack and were directed outside of the mess hall. Here veterans were parting from newbies since the rookies were to head to the training yard now. The veterans would clean, cook the next meals, make and repair armor and weapons, train on their own terms or in small groups, delve into the forest, bathe, or even just lounge until they had to train with their squadron. Kohana headed off towards the yard, barely heeding Leo and the others except to offer a brief nod. Abby enthusiastically waved goodbye to Leo and the werelion offered a grin and a loose wave to the group.

Aya's usually cheerful face looked a little down before she let out a sigh. "Yeah... I guess you're right. Man... I wanna go out an' help 'em... somehow! I feel useless bein' stuck here..." She knew it was best for her though. She was no longer a slave, yes, but here she had chosen to come and listen to orders. Here she would stay until she was ordered to continue forth. Until then, she'd hone her skills as best as she could. She waved to the others as well, and then she and Lahk followed after the rest of the veterans. It was her day to cook in the schedule, so off to the kitchen she went. Lahk would head off to fletch arrows.

Lea meanwhile walked next to Kohana, a grin on her face. It would be nice to see what she'd signed up for, aside from the early schedule that she wasn't too peachy about. She was sure that whatever came her way, she'd be able to ace it, no problem. "It's kinda exciting," she admitted aloud. She'd never been around so many people and not actually have one that she had to eventually kill.

After offering a wave to Aya and the other veterans Leo was off to help with the blacksmiths. There he would sharpen and polish tools and products, mostly taking time to lounge and speak with his friends that were also in the forge. Lily had bid farewell to her partner in order and stalked off towards the woods. Here she would hike in solitude and use fending off any aggressive beasts as practice.

Kohana walked at lea's side, even though she didn't intend to. Their steps fell into a sort of sync, not under Kohana's deliberate control. Her ambling, yet almost slinking gate was evident. All around them were other partners or clumps of rookies heading anxiously towards the wide expanse of grass and equipment that was the training grounds. At the werewolf's side Lea had voiced her excitement for such training. for once she could agree with the bloodsucker on that. The prospect of sharpening her skills and potentially rising to the top filled her with adrenaline.

"Agreed," Kohana replied, actually sounding pleasant in her own rough way.

Lea blinked, surprised at Kohana's agreement as well as the fact that she sounded kind of nice. The vampire had been expecting a scoffing remark, maybe an annoyed grunt, or the most expected, silence. She was still grinning as she continued walking, but this was for a completely different reason now; if she had a tail, it would have been wagging. Instead, she simply continued walking, cheering in her head.

Progress baby! Did you see that?! Lea, it seemed, love the sound of her voice, even in her mind.

Don't be too pleased, the voice in her head told her with a small sigh. She's probably just eager to kick your sorry a** at something. As usual, Lea ignored said voice. She felt proud of herself. The icy wolf was melting, according to her, and they were going to be awesome partners, and that was that. Childish pipe dreams, some would say, but Lea was not really known for being mature.

"What d'you think they got for us first?" she continue as she looked at the equipment on the training field. Some of them she was quite sure would be as easy as pie.

The vampire's internal triumph was unknown to Kohana. Despite the hopes of Lea, the werewolf had still not fully come around yet. Now she may offer some agreements if need be, but the vampire still made her uncomfortable. Mostly because of the species and the rivalry that came with it, but another twinge lighted in her belly. Something about this young woman made her heart flutter in a way that had only been familiar that one time she had spied a pretty maid in a bawdy tavern. Not on Kohana's life would she ever believe she felt any type of attraction towards a bloodsucker.

For now she easily discarded any thoughts of the vampire and instead focused on the training ahead. An excellent time to show a few of the lesser rookies not to mess with a wolf. Especially one that wielded a sword almost as well as another appendage. Hopefully they wouldn't discover that she couldn't even string a bow easily, but if this occurred she would just pretend there was no problem and figure it out quickly. The prospect of archery nagged at her all of a sudden until Lea spoke up again.

"Probably something strenuous to weed out some of the scrawnier of the bunch. Then some general assessment with a few weapons and maybe a brawl if we're lucky," Koahna answered as she clenched and clenched her fists in excitement.

"Hm... guess you're right 'bout that," Lea replied, thinking that over a little. She didn't consider herself scrawny at all, or something to be weeded out. She felt that out of everyone she had met so far, she could probably take them all on. It was her pride and over inflated ego that thought such a thing, however... as well as seeing herself with a long range weapon. Of course, while she was strong and had a fatal bite as well as piercing nails, she wasn't immune to certain things light silver and holy water. At least here though Lea figured she didn't have to worry about either of those things.

She was fine with weapons, in her not so humble opinion as well, though she really hoped today wouldn't be a day for close quarter combat with weapons. She hadn't practiced using a sword in a very long time, and if she had to go up against something like Steel Kiss... Nah, nothing will happen to me.

You're so delusional, you make me laugh, the voice in her head told her.

Shut up, you're me and I'm not laughing! Lea retorted.

"Bleh, I really don't wanna brawl yet," she said aloud as she pushed a long blue tipped bang behind her studded ear. Especially if it was against her partner. As much as she didn't want to admit it, Lea could tell that if it was close quarter combat against Kohana, she would most probably lose. The werewolf looked excited at the prospect, which could only mean she was used to it and good at it. Lea couldn't admit that out loud though, could she? "I got all my ear studs still on, don't wanna lose 'em in the dirt, y'know?"

((Bump? :3))

What Lea had said of her ear studs was taken as an excuse in Kohana's ears. The remark received an audible snort, although it sounded more humorous than being an open attack. "Yeah right. I just think you don't want to break one of those ridiculous nails of yours," Kohana commented. She looked to the vampire with a grin on her face, setting another challenge. The werewolf was almost quaking with her anticipation to brawl with anyone, especially her vampiric partner who seemed to deserve a good reality check. One in the form of some rough housing. Also, Kohana wished to further assert her dominance in this partnership. As far as she was concerned she would wear the pants in this relationship.

Out on the field two instructors came into view. There was the middle aged female vampire from earlier who was running the show as well as the man with the reptile eyes. The vampire wasn't wearing a blazer like last night and instead wore long, loose pants, combat boots, and a half shirt that exposed a well toned stomach. Without thinking Kohana commented, "Damn, you could wash laundry on those abs..." After it had slipped out she coughed awkwardly to try to cover up the sly comment. One could guess what "team," she played for. Ever since she was a pup Kohana had known that women were infinitely more appealing than men were. Way too much testosterone.

(Sorry for the huge delay! I will make sure to be more on top of it when it comes to responding since I forgot how much I loved my little wolfy and her vampire counterpart.)

((It's alright! You have school and all lol. I just didn't want this to end up archived :3))

"Hey, I took care of these babies," Lea replied with a huff, sticking her hands out in front of herself as they walked. It wasn't really true though; Lea was as careless as always. The only thing she did actually care about was dying her hair just right. She was just the lucky type with nails; they grew perfectly, and that was a point of pride for the vampire. "Bet you they're as sharp as my fangs, but I won't try any of 'em on ya." She smirked a little at that before putting her hands behind her head, strolling as if she was headed to a park. After a moment, however, she did reach up and remove her ear studs. While that had just been an excuse, it did occur to her that she could lose them. They weren't precious per say, but they had been in her family for a while, and Sven would probably be pissed off if she lost them.

As she put them away in her pocket, she heard Kohana's comment about the female vampire instructor. A sly grin came over her face and she buttoned up, her eyes moving over to look at the vampire first, and then at the at the other reptile eyed one. The fellow was quite handsome, his hair open today, dressed in a pair of cargo shorts and a white wife beater shirt. He had his arms crossed over his chest, watching the newcomers trickle into the field.

"You sure?" Lea asked Kohana, trying her hardest not to snicker. It was a bit of a revelation to her, one that secretly pleased her inside. Lea herself was, as she liked to call herself, an 'admirer of beauty'. She swung like a swing, both way. However, that wasn't to say she didn't have a preference, and there was nothing quite like another girl. In a few days, everyone who decided to be in close proximity would probably figure that out about Lea, but for now, she was playing it safe, not wanting to be kicked out. "She ain't bad, ain't bad at all. 'Course, that guy there got some pecs on him as well, dontcha think?"

It took a lot of effort for Kohana not to face palm. Why had she let such a comment slip like that? The last thing she needed was to give her partner another reason to mess with her. Especially since while such preferences were accepted, discrimination was not uncommon. Since Kohana valued her pride she'd have to be more careful of what she said, although it would be a bit difficult. Kohana had always been one to speak her mind and hiding her identity was never ideal.

Now that Lea had heard the comment, it was best to defend it to maintain her composure and dominance here. Shying away from embarrassment was not something Kohana did. Indeed the male instructor had decent muscles, but that was not what Kohana was focused upon. "Hmm...not bad, but not as good,"she defended, playing it off nonchalantly. Drawing attention to her slip up would only make things worse so it was wise to play it cool and hope it was forgotten.

Although what was almost more embarrassing was that the figure of her attention happened to be a vampire, a species Kohana had openly talked down upon. Hopefully Lea didn't take it the wrong way and believe that Kohana would ever like a vampire. It was unfortunate that vampires all seemed to have a natural charm that could even catch the attention of a werewolf, making her almost flustered. For all Kohana was concerned she was to find love with a werewolf female, never a vampire. Even if she allowed herself to silently admire some vampiric traits.

Almost awkwardly the werewolf advanced until she joined the growing group of rookies that had clustered in front of the instructors. The vampire instructor narrowed her eyes and observed the faces in the crowd. Kohana stared back unflinchingly.

"Hmm..." Lea pursed her lips as she tilted her head to the right and to then to the left, looking at the vampire that Kohana seemed to think had nice abs. Well, she supposed that the lady was a looker, and if she was to compare the male to her, she'd probably go for the woman as well. Still... She cast her eyes on Kohana for a moment, inwardly feeling a slight sting. What, she wasn't good looking or something? She had decent abs too! And she had a nice rack as well! And cool blue tipped hair!

Are you seriously doing this right now? The voice in her head sounded a little exasperated now, and even Lea had to admit she was acting rather petty. She couldn't help it though, it was in her nature, wanting to be admired by all! Vampire, werewolf, were-anything really, shifters and non shifters. Lea wanted the attention of all, or maybe even a few. At least her partner! She knew for the later that it would take hard work for her to even be accepted as someone who is legitimately good though, and Lea didn't really like hard work, as it were.

She certainly couldn't say all of this out loud, it was practically begging for attention, and Lea was no beggar. Far from it, she took what she wanted, without asking. For now, however, she simply followed Kohana, stepping up a little so that she was next to her partner, looking at the two instructors once more. She sure as hell hoped they had something good planed for today.

The Naga male uncrossed his arms and stood akimbo, his reptile eyes looking over the rookies, a smile growing on his face. This was one of his favourite parts of training; trying to figure out what each individual was hiding behind those faces.

To the naga's stare Kohana also offered a look of confidence. Her whole body seemed to radiate confidence, shoulders back and head held up. Across her chest her arms were folded neatly. After a while Kohana's head tilted to the side ever so slightly as if examining something as she continued to stare unwavering at the instructors. The vampiric instructor met her gaze for a while and broke it only after offering a small sly grin. The tougher looking ones were always fun to break in.

After most of the rookies had gathered the vampire instructor, Susana, began to speak,"Now that you're all here I'd like for you to discard of your armor and weapons. None of them will be needed now. Set them down neatly and quickly." her voice was clear and authoritative.

Kohana obliged, removing her sword and her sheath and setting it on the ground. Next came her chest plate and cape so that she only had her black tank top, baggy sand colored pants, and combat boots. A close eye would be kept on her sword and if anyone dared remove it they'd suffer dire consequences. Fangs or fists would certainly be enough to convince the petty thief to drop the act. Others all around them removed weapons and armor pieces, setting them down with care as they chattered quietly.

After this ordeal Susana cracked her knuckles. Looking to her partner, the other instructor, she asked, "Ready to get this show on the road?"

The Naga, named Malek, gave a little grin, seeing the look of confidence on Kohana. He was a sneaky sort, bu he did like to train to better the newcomers, and he was definitely eager to see what this group could do. The look of confidence that Kohana had was something he was looking forward to seeing on the faces of others as well. His reptilian eyes then moved from Kohana to her partner, finding the look on her face to be quite amusing. She seemed almost grumpy, rather than confidence, excited or even a little scared. He couldn't help wonder why.

Lea at that moment let out a breath of air before looking to the vampire instructor as she spoke. Well, she hardly had any armour on, but she did have her weapons. She pulled her different throwing knives from her boots, belts and various hidden pockets, setting them onto the ground. She had no attachment to any of them, thankfully. The bow and quiver of arrows was next. Now this was something she valued, having bought the bow herself with her fist hard owned money. Anyone who tried to touch it would get a nasty bite where they didn't want one. She couldn't help look over at Kohana's much more impressionable style before looking up at. She blinked. Huh... not too shabby...

Meanwhile, Malek nodded to his partner, giving her a little grin. "Sure am," he replied before looking to the rookies, giving them a charming smile. "I'm sure these kids can't wait to see what's coming up."

"They're in for a real treat," Susana replied with a flash of a devilish grin. Malek had been her own partner when she had first arrived and they had climbed up the ranks together, making them share a rather close bond. Admittedly at first both didn't get along much and many fights had ensued. then after their first real battle everything changed and they began to understand another. After they began to cooperate it didn't take long before they were the top soldiers and then among the esteemed instructors.

Now the vampire turned to the group. "Alright. No more lollygagging. Today you will get your first taste at this program and it's wise to withhold any usual rookie snark. Your pleading or bragging only infuriates me so work hard and be patient and you'll see real results. And won't get your head beat in. Kapeesh?"she began, pacing up and down the line of newer soldiers. There was a murmur of affirmation and some nervous shuffling among a few. Abby wore a wide grin and was located a few people down the line than Kohana and Lea. Even Mark looked somewhat eager, pawing the ground with one boot as if he were in his horse form. Kohana noted this with amusement. It wasn't unlike shifters to adopt behaviors common of their alternate forms. Kohana was prone to drawing her lips back when angered and when very pleased sometimes her hips would sway as if she had a tail to wag. The latter behavior was a bit embarrassing.

With the introduction said, Susana continued. "Your warm up will be none other than a good old fashioned brawl. Nothing like a little romp with your new partner to get your blood pumping. Your only rules are no bone breaking, no teeth pulling, and shifters will not be able to access animal forms. Biting is allowed, but at a minimum and of course no ripping flesh. The last thing we want is a new soldier with their jugular laying in the dirt. Basically, fight until we tell you to stop and don't wound your opponent terribly. With that said, go at it, kids!"she explained before pushing the group aside so partners were facing each other and were spaced well away from their equipment and other partners.

Now moved away from the rest, Kohana found herself staring right at Lea and examining the vampire foe. For the first time a wide grin was clearly visible on her face, fangs glinting in the morning sunlight above. Already she had lowered her body and loosened up some of her muscles, hands held near her sides in a readied position. "I'll do you a favor and let you take the first hit, bloodsucker."

"Hey, no racial slurs!"Came Susana's voice behind Kohana, making her flinch and then grumble with a toss of her light blonde hair. the warning was taken with a grain of salt since Kohana was already geared up for a fight and had left her usual behavior behind.

Malek chuckled a little and nodded. It was true, at first when he'd arrived, all those years ago, he hadn't been the most pleased of fellows to discover that not only his partner was a vampire, but a female as well. He had been a bit of a chauvinistic pig, er, snake at first. However, even before their first real scrap against others, they way she fought and acted in general had a great impact on him, and after that first battle, he was a changed man, the sort who would boot anyone in the face for thinking a female was less than a male. Oh, he'd make sure to be quite polite during the kicking as well. Malek was the kind of person who was a smooth talker; he could be threatening to kill someone in such a tone that a person who didn't know the language could very well believe he was trying to woo them.

He had a placid smile on his face as he listened to her talk to the rookies. It was interesting watching the way they reacted to her words, especially the shifters. Then there were those like Lea, who still had that grumpy look, almost as if she was pouting. And she really was, once she heard that they were going to have a brawl as their warm-up. Like... why?! It was the one thing she hadn't wanted, and it was the one thing that she had to go through. And that too, with Kohana? She looked over at said werewolf and saw that Kohana was looking right at her. Normally the cocky vampire would have probably asked her if she liked what she saw. However, she knew if she asked that now, and Kohana said yes, it wouldn't be the kind of positive reply Lea wanted. She wasn't stupid; she knew that she was at a disadvantage right now, and the way Kohana was smiling, Lea figured that she felt the same as well.

She didn't even have a comment to reply to the slur! Lea was shocked and a little pissed off at herself. "Oh ha, ha," she replied, mentally face-palming at her lack luster comeback. Sven she'd bet would be pleased at this match-up, happy to see his sister being taken down a peg. However, given the advantage, why not take it? Without a world, Lea leaped forward, a fist shooting toward Kohana's stomach. "Thanks for the favour!"

Since Kohana had openly given Lea the opportunity to have the first attack, it came as expected. The werewolf dug her heels into the ground and flexed her abdominal muscles to their full tenseness. A small grunt escaped Koahana's mouth upon impact, but the punch had only caused a slight jolt instead of throwing her backwards and would probably hurt the vampire's fists for a moment. "No problem," Kohana replied boldly now that Lea had brought herself in close range.

While some got a high off of drugs or other artificial means, Kohana got a high off of fighting. The thrill of combat and the power that came with it was powerful and made her blood run hot. It brought a smile to her face and a dangerous gleam to her amber eyes. Brawling was almost like a dance, requiring careful movements and a high sensitivity to the surroundings and the opponent. One would think that time in the arena had created a stigma against fighting, but combat was only the werewolf way and no amount of abuse could change that. From the start werewolf pups wrestled and throughout the years they'd continue. A werewolf grappled with life and its obstacles until their last breath. Kohana was no different.

Adrenaline pumping, Kohana quickly reached out for Lea's wrist and attempted to grab it in a vice grip now that the vampire was closer.

Even as Lea felt her fist against Kohana, she knew she had made a mistake of taking the first blow rather than waiting and assessing her her partner first. She really wasn't make for close quarter combat, and she hated this, feeling at a disadvantage. Kohana had clearly not been fazed by the blow, probably anticipating it and already having prepared for the next move.

S***, she thought to herself, teeth gritting as she felt the muscles stiffen under her punch and not even cause the werewolf to stumble back even a little. She immediately decided it was time to back off, and she tried to as well. That was however when her wrist was grabbed. Lea yanked at it, but Kohana was stronger than her. Lea might have had vampire strength, but it wasn't often that she trained herself in this way.

"Like me so much y'don't wanna let go?" she asked, deciding maybe a flirtatious quip might faze the werewolf somewhat, seeing she was interested in girls. Lea would try to use whatever she could to attempt an escape.

(Feel free to manhandle her haha XD)

(As soon as they began the brawl it was destined that Lea would be manhandled. XD Lea is free to use Kohana like a living pin cushion.)

The taunt hardly fazed Kohana in the moment, taken as a feeble jab. This warranted amusement and Kohana allowed herself a bark of laughter, hand still gripping Lea's wrist tightly. She made sure the vampire was going nowhere until she let her, feeling very in control. Combat also fueled her ego since it placed her in a position of power in most cases. This was one such situation because Kohana was under the impression that she was a much more skilled brawler than the slimmer vampire. Vampiric speed may be superb, but vampiric strength was no match to that of an adult werewolf warrior. Now Kohana used that brute strength to harshly pull Lea onto the ground, jolting the woman in a rough manner.

Once Lea was on the ground, before she could recover Kohana had crouched down and rolled her over with a knee. In no time Kohana was keeping Lea down by straddling her waist, reaching out now to try to attempt to pin the vampire's wrists. While it would be difficult to push Kohana off, sharp nails and teeth would be able to bother her into flinching away. This was why it was the werewolf's best interest to try to contain the vampire with the hopes of avoiding those lightening reflexes.

((Teehee alright XD))

It was not a very happy sound to Lea, hearing Kohana laugh like that. Obviously that quip hadn't done what it was meant to, and that laugh was simply proving how lame her attempt had been. She gritted her teeth, feeling the pressure on her wrist. S***... She was feeling very out of control at the moment. She was definitely not the alpha in this partnership, and even that thought fueling her anger wasn't enough to break out of the hold. Lack of experience and strength had Lea hitting the ground, letting out an undignified yelp in the process.

"S***!" She couldn't help but cuss out loud when she realized she was not only on her back but completely out of control, Kohana above her, holding her down. If this had been any other situation, ideally with a bed underneath, the vampire would have been quite the happy bloodsucker. For once, however, she was not pleased with this arrangement. Her one wrist was pinned, but her other hand was still free. She lashed out, trying to claw at Kohana's arm to let her go.

Something about a brawl was always very intimate in an aggressive fashion. One couldn't help but connect with the oppenent, even if it isn't a romantic form. It still provided direct contact, especially since Kohana was literally straddling this girl right now. For some unspeakable reason Kohana felt almost embarrased, especially after her recent accidental confession. As if this position could be taken the wrong way, even if it felt so right.

The fleeting thought was discarded when Kohana felt sharp nails clawing her arm and leaving red marks, nearly breaking her skin. More clawing left a small, shallow slice and blood blossumed. Kohana grunted and reached out to try to grab Lea's free wrist, wincing under the fury of sharp nails.
