Lairen walked protectively behind his sister as they both followed the light in front of them. He had been briefly thinking about the gorgeous woman he had met earlier before being rudely interrupted by an annoying voice. Doran, of course. No matter how much Sairen seemed to like him, Lairen was sure he'd never be able to even tolerate him. Every snarky remark or dumb comment that came out of Doran's mouth just made him want to kill the man even more. He let out a low growl before placing his hand on one of his swords to unsheathe it from its casing, his sword growing a faint red as its blade became visible.

Before he could fully draw, Sairen turned around to glare at him, her face barely illuminated. He stopped immediately, his brows furrowing before sheathing his sword with a soft clink. If he was honest, he was a little jealous. After all, his beloved little sister was playing favorites and it wasn't with him. This bitter feeling didn't last long as the group stopped at a ladder leading up. Doran went first after giving a passing comment about getting his head shot off. Silently, Lairen hoped for it.

A moment after peeking his head out, he was fine, much to his dismay. Next to go up was Sairen. She gripped the bars before climbing up, Lairen standing beneath her in case she slipped and fell. When Doran held his hand out to her, she took it gratefully. His grip was strong and he easily pulled her out from the darkness. She took a deep breath, the smell of fresh air cleansing her lungs of the disgusting smell of garbage that she had been previously trapped in.

Lairen followed right after Sairen, climbing the ladder. Doran had also extended a hand to help him, which he refused simply by ignoring it. He gave a quick glance around once out of the sewer and while he saw no guards now, he knew they'd come back once whatever the commotion was settled down. "Let's split up. We'll cover more rooms," he said before grabbing his sisters hand and pulling her along into the academy, entering through one of its broken windows rather than a door. He wanted to make as little noise as possible. If there were loitering guards anywhere, he didn't want to attract them.

The two glanced around the room they happened to enter. With several desks and a large board at the front of the room, they assumed it was a classroom. They never attended school as children, so it was an unfamiliar setting for them, one they wish they could have experienced. There seemed to be nothing of value in this room, so they moved to the hallway. Before going to the next location, the two spoke quietly to one another.

"I still don't understand why we're here."

"Because he helped us."

"And we paid him. Sai, I really think that Doran guy is-"

"Lairen, how old do you think we are now?

"...In our late 20's?"

"Exactly, and I love you, but I don't want to spend the rest of my life with you as my only companion."

"Wh-"

"I'm always going to be there for you and you're always going to be there for me, but let's try to trust someone other than ourselves, okay?"

Lairen let out a silent nod, his lips bending into a frown. He was visibly hurt and it hurt Sairen to say it, but it was true.

"Let's talk about this more later."

She grabbed his hand tenderly before leading them through the halls.

Violetta followed the light from her flashlight she noticed a circle of light suddenly emit with a few bodies leaving to head to the surface. If she had to guess, it was that trio that had the guy who was going to charge her next time he had to fight. Honestly, she really wanted to at least exchange names with one of these people; who else could you say you met in the sewers while fighting a giant Grimm? It would make for a fun story the next time she had a willing ear to listen!

She followed where she had seen the light, only pausing for a moment to make sure no Grimm were following her. Once she was certain that the coast was clear, Violetta approached the ladder and adjusted the strap of her guitar so that it hung against her back. She took off her gloves and set them inside of her coat to ensure she wouldn't get them all messy. They were her guitaring gloves, and she'd be damned if she had to smell sewage ladder on them every time she had to play her weapon.

She made quick work of climbing up before her nose smelled rubble and dust rather than fecal matter. Violetta welcomed it happily in comparison to the sewers and quickly pulled herself back to surface.

'Cool, now let's see what kind of stuff is here!' She thought to herself, walking quickly up and down the halls in search of anything that she could hopefully sell.

If she walked by anyone, she would greet them with a smile and wave before continuing her search. Violetta would be happy to search and talk at the same time, though she wanted to hurry before soldiers sent to check on this area arrived.

As expected when Lairen climbed out of the underground, he ignored the aid of a hand. In response Doran pulled his arm back to shrug with a minor smirk. Though as quickly as Doran began to start walking again, the elder of the two siblings suggested that they split up for more ground and hastily led his sister to another entrance. Watching them leave the mercenary let out a small chuckle before making his way through the main entrance, of which seemed to have already been passed through.

Stepping through the halls as he flicked his weapon into its compact form, the place was eerily quiet, giving notion to the bounty hunter that whoever decided to take the direct approach had dealt with most of those who could interfere with trespassing. Unfortunately, that also meant that reinforcements were likely on the way if the detachment guarding the premises had truly been taken care of. This was definitely time to hurry.

Hastening his step to a quick walk, Doran began passing by various rooms, glancing or peeking within to see if it was likely to contain anything of value. Eventually, he pushed open a door to find what appeared to be a locker room. Though strangely enough, there were many empty spots that looked as though a large locker once sat in its position. He had heard that the academies had arms storage that could make its way to coordinates the owner input. Looked as though some managed to at least call for their weapons to fight, but there were quite a few that weren't so reactive.

Just as Doran was about to begin searching for actual look, he heard footsteps. Hugging the door frame, Doran listened carefully. The steps were light, but in somewhat of a hurry. One person. Small, though it sounded as though they were packing something of size in their gear. The siblings would've stuck together like glue, or so he surmised, so it couldn't be one of them.

Either way, it was better for him to be in control than to wait and see. As the steps closed in, Doran popped around the corner, weapon drawn and flicked into the form of a smaller shotgun pointed at the individual. Upon seeing who the person was, however, the bounty hunter's posture seemed to soften somewhat as he lowered the weapon.

"Ah, musician chick," Doran noted, letting the arm with the weapon drop to his side. "Gotta admit I was kinda hoping it was the idiot who's making me have to rush... but, you know, good to see you didn't die to somethin' else down there."

Saying that, Doran lightly kicked the door that had slowly began to close on him before entering the locker room and glancing at the lockers. The containers were all fairly high tech, at least for the rest of Vacuo, being heavily reinforced and using some kind of holographic keypad. Humming to himself, the mercenary took a moment before poking the holographic pad.

"It wouldn't be one-one-one, would it?" Doran wondered, tapping in the entry before the locker shook and ejected itself into the ceiling and flying away from the main building.

Staring up, Doran paused for a moment. "...Whoops. That's a no..."

Guessing was out of the equation, less he risk sending the lockers out to random places. That left only one option.

Popping the dust chamber open, Doran loaded in what appeared to be a cartridge of earth dust before placing the barrel of the at the side of the locker where the keypad hovered over. Pointing it somewhat to the side so as to not potentially shoot everything in the container, he pulled the trigger, the impact creating a large indentation in part of the locker. Upon impact the holographic keypad disappeared and Doran pried it open with his blade as a makeshift crowbar.

Inside was what looked like some spare clothes or light armor, ammunition, and lucky for him, a weapon. It was a rifle of some kind, but knowing it belonged to someone going to the academy, it must have had other functions as well. Stowing away his own weapons, Doran lifted the firearm out of the locker and began to examine it, turning and rotating it, pressing buttons and trying to figure out what else it could do.

"Huh... Maybe I should've done this a while ago."

Traversing the corridors of the academy while taking a glimpse into each room he passed to make sure each room was empty before continuing forward, the pink haired male kept his unwrapped palm on the hilt of his blade in case someone or something decided to jump out at him. It was strange to see there wasn't a single corpse let alone a skeletal remains of anyone around not to mention there was no blood stains anywhere even though there were clear signs of fighting in every room. "Something isn't right..." With a low whispered tone as Axel questioned the situation of every room he passed by; seconds after several further steps forward the sounds of further explosions and gunfire echoed through the skies had caught the male's attention. This time rather than it being right outside on the campus grounds, the sounds were heard up in the air and at a slight distance from the academy.

"What the hell--" Just as Axel questioned the noise and gazed out one of the windows in the middle of the hall, a sharp pain quickly surged through his entire right arm before he collapsed to the floor letting his back press against the wall while he grasped a firm hold of the his Grimm arm. The pain felt as though his someone or something was grabbing a hold of his arm and tugging at it with all their strength to completely separate the limb from his body, all while it was being dipped in molten acid. Grunting in the immense amount of pain from the unknown source, the unbearable pain would only last for a several minutes before eventually it left just as quickly as it came. This left Axel out of breath as he gazed down at his arm which was now practically throbbing. All the while, the Dragon within him roared in agony at the well known call of Zayne's command.

"No...time to wonder...about that...I need to keep moving.."

Slowly helping himself off the ground, Axel continued on his way at a slightly fatigued pace for the next few minutes until he was fully able to catch his breath once more.
Soon enough after enough searching, he came to his destination; the headmaster's office. The double wooden doors had clearly been torn off by that of Grimm simply by the claw marks that littered the walls and edges of where the doors once were. The large rectangular desk was in two pieces, each of opposing sides of the circular room. The bookshelves were damaged beyond repair while books differing in size and color were scattered all around the dark brown rugged flooring.

Ignoring all the details of the damage within the room as well as any book that he stepped over, Axel approached the corner of one of the broken halves of the desk just to examine it thoroughly before finding a small button that was underneath the corner of the desk. With a click, a small chip extended out from the top of the desk as well as a hologram that was clearly damaged during the battle years ago appearing the middle of the room. The hologram was a large rectangle that had smaller videos of different parts of the academy. Some of the recordings were completely blocked out by static from time and damage while there were some that skipped little by little. Though it didn't exactly take a wizard to tell what the recording was about.
Screams, gunfire, roars, explosions and finally silence. Even with him watching it all, Axel could see as students, teachers, civilians that consisted of men, women and children were being slaughtered by Grimm. Clenching his fists at what he saw, by the time each the screams had halted; the videos simply continued to repeat once again.

Leaving the room before he had to listen to even more of the screams and battle, Axel made his way to attempt and find an exit before Atlas troops would decide to make themselves home again.

Continuing on his way down the abandoned streets of what remained of Vacuo aside from the large group of different types of Grimm that enjoyed the heat of Vacuo following him from behind; the cloaked male only brought his gaze upwards to the sky every so often to see as to how the airborne Grimm were doing at their command to take care of some of the Atlas incoming ships. As it had appeared, many more of the Grimm were being killed one after another rather than them succeeding in destroying the incoming reinforcements. Even so, the figure showed no care as he continued forward.

The only thing that soon caused the figure to halt in the middle of his advancement was the unexpected drop-in of mechanical soldiers. Tons of them had fallen from the skies by carrier while four larger mechanized manually run suits had fallen ahead of the foot soldiers. The large platoons marched forward towards the main entrance to the courtyard of the academy while one of the platoons happened to had dropped right in front of the hooded figure. The soldiers quickly raised their rifles ordering for the figure to halt where he stood before they began to open fire on the Grimm behind him. Of course, by reaction the Grimm charged forward to attack the soldiers and were easily overrun in a matter of seconds due to their numbers.

After the slaughter of the mechanized soldiers that stood before the figure, the Grimm slowly returned to the figure bowing before him while he stood there with his toothy fanged grin underneath his hood still. "Well done...Now, let us see just how many of you are here...Hm?" With that, the figured raised his left arm directly upwards with his palm wide open. Moments passed as a purplish orb began to form in the palm of his Grimm-like hand. Within the orb the sounds of multiple Grimm could be heard roaring and hissing in agony before he began to squeeze the orb in his grip, demanding for the Grimm that resided within any nearby Aura Grimm to come to him. The tighter he squeezed the more pain he inflicted upon the Grimm.
Eventually, after several minutes went by without any sight of the Grimm he called for arriving before him, he allowed the orb to fade from his palm before lowering his arm. "Hmmm, so there are five of you here...Excellent.."

    __

Meanwhile, high above in the skies; the Atlesian warships along with carrier ships closed in on the academy courtyard airspace with each passing second. If they found whatever or whoever that had taken out the guards that were stationed at the academy to be a big enough threat, the military wouldn't hesitate to fire down onto the ruins even if it meant destroying the remains.

Though, as the ships approached ever closer the orders from the main warship for all ships to come to a complete halt while carrier ships were told to unload the troops. The man who stood at the bridge of the ship commanded for the full stop only due to the sight of what appeared to had another ship was already stationed above the academy. At first glance, it was clear that the ship was not belonging to that of the Atlesian military; before deeming them a target that simply should be taken out instantly, the commander examined the designs of the ship for a few moments before realizing it belonged to the well known company of the Golden Skies Corporation. "You there! You are of Golden Skies Corporations, no? You are trespassing in Atlesian airspace, you have no authority to be here! We have direct orders to open fire on all trespassers. Leave now and we will not fire upon you." The commander spoke through the commlink to get into contact with the ship before him awaiting for a reply the entire time.

Everywhere he went, the shadow seemed to follow. Never within sight. Always hiding, sneaking. Close enough to watch its prey. Far enough to not get caught. Nudara would need to trap it if he wanted to stop it from disappearing again. And for that he would need bait.

Right on cue. Nudara spotted a young man climbing through a window in the next room. It was the brash kid who had run off after those thugs, gone to get their money back. Nudara had seen enough of him to know that he could be trusted. There it was. The cold again. It was too soon. The Grimm would not take any bait so easily.

Nudara followed Axel. Even saw him fall against the wall and clutching his arm. The Grimm shifted too. Had that caught its attention. The kid's negative feelings may be drawing the stalking Grimm... No, it was something else. Like it was distracted by yet another thing. Maybe those others who had come out of the sewers. No, they had put some distance between them now.

Nudara watched Axel enter the old headmaster's office. What did he want in there? No matter, it was a dead end. The perfect place to set up his trap with his new bait. He was distracted by the sounds of fighting above. Had his brother really engaged an Atlas airship in combat?. Axel was coming out out of the office. Damn it, he had lost his chance!

Nudara followed Axel. Seems he was headed for the exit. Nudara managed to catch him just before he left. Coming to his side right at the main entrance.

"Axel, wait a moment." That was when he saw through the door. "Damn it."

The ships were deploying ground troops. Lots of them. But they were fighting Grimm. Lots of them. Both sides would look to tear them apart on sight. What had happened out here?! It was too dangerous to go out there into the middle of all that. Not to mention Nudara still had to catch this Grimm.

"Stay calm or the Grimm out there will be drawn to us. I need your help."

The game came running back, a worried look on his face. Whether it was the flying Grimm or the Atlas airship that gave him such concern, Thanian did not know. But he was soon to find out.

"Sir," the flustered guard began. "The Grimm are swarming our ship. And the Atlas forces have hailed us. I don't think we should send that, umm, that request, sir. Doubt this one will hear anything about paying you to pass."

Thanian smirked. "I'll have to come to the bridge and great them myself, then."

The guard saluted and waited for Thanian to begin moving. His leader started walking and the guard kept pace behind him.

"They declared us as tresspassers, sir, and stated that they have orders to shoot all tresspassers on sight." Thanian said nothing. He knew that they would not blindly open fire on a Golden Skies ship. "They have told us to leave, now, sir. Or they will fire at our ship."

Thanian paused. "My ship. Not our ship."

"Eh, yes, sir. They will fire at your ship, sir." Thanian nodded. "What do you want us to do."

"Guard the bay but keep those doors open. If you can funnel them into there then they will be much easier to handle." Thanian left the large cargo bay, passed through the small holding area, and walked onto the bridge. Something between an over sized cockpit and the top deck of sea ship. Everyone in the room saluted, the then resumed their jobs. "They opened communications?"

"Yes, sir. Signal ready to send."

"Atlas ship. I do not know who commands you. I do not know what jurisdiction you seem to think you have. But this is Thanian Shreik. Heir to the Golden Skies Corporation." Out of the front view window he could see it. And all of the Grimm swarming around it. He forced his aura out. Through the ship. Its's immeasurable power expanding. This was his power. His birth right. His semblance. Willing the ship to slide backwards through the air. And pushing aside all of the Grimm in their way. Command of Right. "Leave now or I will remove your ship from the vicinity by myself."

An empty threat, unfortunately. Thanian was reaching the limit of what he could control with his semblance. If they decided to move their ship, then there would be nothing he could do.

The figure that Acroma presumed was Nudara Shreik left the academy's exterior soon after he asked the question. It wasn't a big deal, Acroma could care less about the fellow, and whatever business he had in this wasteland, all he needs is for the brat to not get in his way. The noon sun still hung high in the sky, it's warmth felt more sickening as time went by. Arcoma leaned against Blanche's vehicle and rubbed the back of his neck a bit, the heated rays began to feel painfully blistering as time went on. He couldn't help but feel the unusual texture that is now present on his back, it wasn't smooth like normal skin, it felt, scaly. Weirdly plastic and slightly colder than human skin. It was the result of whatever happened to him back in that lab, the lower part of his neck and shoulder blades are covered in a type of black and white scales. At least the color-matched his hair.

Acroma wanted to laugh at himself for trying so hard to find something good about his skin's predicament, but soon he realized the blistering feeling wasn't from the heat. As the feeling turned from a dull ache to a sharp piercing pain in a few seconds. Damn it. Not here. His thoughts did nothing to ease the feeling as the pain persisted, Acroma pressed his back against the metal surface of the caravan and bit down on his lower lip as to not make a sound. He can't say anything here, there are too many things he can't explain to his companions now. Wishful thinking didn't do much for the sensation either, cold sweat gathered in his eyes. With a shaking hand, Acroma glanced at the card he held, the one he previously filled with ice dust.

It took a second to gather enough strength to hold the card up as well as biting down on his own lip harder to embed some of his aura inside the card. After the deed was done Acroma flicked the card towards the ground, it planted itself in the dirt right beside his feet. In a moment a wave of icy mist began to form, and a thin sheet of frost appeared near Acroma's feet, slowly crawling towards the young man. Eventually, as the ice made it's way up, the area where the sharp pain is coming from was coated in a thin sheet of ice. The piercing pain dulled a bit, replaced with a cold numbness, before subsiding in a few minutes. Acroma took a deep breath, half from exhaustion and half from relief. He hasn't anticipated being subjected to this again since he escaped, now that he has it appears to be a new concern.

The thin frost layer that coated him quickly disappeared under the sunlight, leaving only some condensed water on the caravan's surface. Looking up at the others around him Acroma hoped they were too occupied to realize what just happened, but failed to notice the few drops of blood that trickled down his lip, as his own teeth sinking into his flesh wasn't that noticeable compared to what the pair of Grimm inside of him wanted.

Blanche was honestly at a loss. What were they going to do now? Stand there? Get out while they could? Ugh, she could feel herself getting a stress headache from Nudara's shenanigans. Should she just accept that they were going to be arrested? Ugh. She moved her head to look over at Chro, but a flash of red in her vision caught her attention.

Acroma silently biting his lip. What happened to him? A nervous habit perhaps.

Inconspicuously, she moved closer to Acroma and silently tugged on his sleeve.

She tapped her lower lip, then without stretching her arm, she pointed towards the glove compartment to the caravan. There was a first aid kit he could use if he needed.

Blanche then moved to Chro and stood next to her, "What now?"

Violetta had stepped around looking at the ruins, trying to find something that could be worth a pretty coin. She heard a very subtle sound which made her fingers reflexively twitch, ready to grab for her weapon in a moment's notice. She took a few steps more, and the moment Doran popped around the corner, she swung her guitar around into her hands, the back of the weapon facing Doran to block whatever was coming her way.

"Eh? Oh, it's you!" She smiled and swung her weapon around her shoulder again, the strap catching the guitar so it hung on her back again. At his statement of him being glad she didn't die down there, she grinned. "Heh, likewise."

Violetta followed him for only a moment so that she could look around in the locker room. She was mainly looking around for any coins or valuables that might have been dropped on the ground. Surely there was a lost key card or something, right? Or maybe some Lien! Or maybe some kind of ring or jewels that she could sell!

She ignored Doran as he worked on the locker, searching up and down the room until a sharp and sudden pain ran through her ribcage. An excruciating pain that she can never felt before, shocking her body to the very core.

Violetta collapsed to the floor the instant the pain waved over her body, the young woman letting out muffled cries. She fidgeted with one of her pockets and pulled out a coin, placing it between her teeth and bit down hard. Violetta didn't want to scream or make any sort of noise on the chance that Grimm could be lurking about, but damn did she want to just vocalize the amount of agony she was in. Taking it out on the piece of metal would be good enough. She bit hard enough that she was certain teeth marks would be present, but at the moment, she didn't give a damn.

Violetta hugged her rib area, curled on the floor as the pain within her continued to rock through her bones. She screamed inwardly while outwardly she groaned and gasped with each piercing shockwave. Violetta wanted to focus on anything but it, yet there was nothing but dust around her. Her eyes stared blankly ahead, having no choice but to wait for whatever was happening to subside, or until she died.

Eventually, and thankfully, it subsided. The pain went away as quickly and suddenly as it had begun, leaving Violetta a gasping and confused mess. She opened her mouth a bit more, letting the coin fall out of her mouth with apparent teeth indentures going through the center.

"What the fuck was that...?" Violetta asked herself, taking a moment to calm herself as the phantom of the excruciating pain still lingered. She carefully stood up, wary of her movements in case it happened again. Violetta shook on her legs, her body not yet fully recovered from such an intense and sudden experience.

The conversation didn't go very far. They saw each other, understood that neither was looking for a fight and went right along to looting. The guitarist followed Doran's suit in scrounging the locker room for valuables. However, while Doran had ejected one locked and blasted open another, the mystery girl didn't get much done before she suddenly crumpled to the floor, clutching her ribs and clenching her teeth to muffle any sound of pain. Though the pain was still audible to the room, and her collapsing to the ground with a thud was enough for Doran to take notice.

Stowing the weapon on his back, the mercenary made his way over to the collapsed girl, confused at the sudden display. Crouching down, he looked her over, trying to spot any sign of injury, though there was none that could be seen by his eyes. She was moving around just fine a few moments before too. She couldn't have been hiding it either going off the drastic shift in appearance—it apparently being so painful she couldn't even speak, only bite down on a coin.

"Oi, what's wrong?" Doran questioned, though as expected she was either too focused on the pain that she didn't hear him or she couldn't muster the energy to speak.

However, just as suddenly as she collapsed, whatever injury she incurred must've subsided. Giving her some space, Doran stood up and took a step back just as slowly as she climbed to her feet, arms outstretched in a gesture of mock surrender. Wearing an expression of wariness, he wasn't sure what just happened with her or how she'd react. Sadly, it wouldn't be the first time someone just snapped for little and less.

"You... uh... You good?" Doran inquired carefully. "Not gonna croak or... go feral or something?"

Pausing a moment to make sure the woman hadn't actually gone crazy, Doran let his hands drop to his side once again.

"Sure you weren't nicked or something? Some of these Grimm have poison," The mercenary warned, giving her another cautious look over. She looked blindsided by what just happened, and while she seemed able again her legs were still shaking. "You able to walk or am I gonna need to carry you on my back? ...But, for the record, I did tell you I'd charge you the second time, pretty face or not."

Lairen and Sairen Lee
| Time: Noon |

The siblings made their way through the halls of the abandoned school, their footsteps barely audible along the tiled floors. Sairen held her brothers hand is hers as she led them, a tense silence between them from the previous conversation. The pair rarely fought and when they did, it was usually childish squabbles that lasted mere minutes. Though neither of them considered this a fight, they had never been this kind of tension before. Sairen pulled her brother through rooms, merely scanning the rooms for something decent enough to bring back to Doran but finding nothing. The building had been abandoned for years now and with an abundance of Grimm, it wasn't shocking to see most furniture torn apart. With his acute sense of hearing, Lairen could tell someone else was also in the building by the distant sounds of doors and clattering from other parts of the building. If he had to guess, Doran and perhaps the other two they had met in the sewers had all found their way here.

Moments passed, the silence holding but the tension no longer there. They had found maybe a couple of tables with minimal damage but figured it'd be best to ask Doran before lugging tables around the building. As they exited a room, Sairen fell to her knees, her arms wrapping tightly around herself as a sharp and searing pain ran through her spine. As the pain grew stronger and stronger, she fell forward. She knew that if she made any noise, it could potentially draw Grimm towards them and in her current state, they wouldn't even be able to fight back. Instead, she held her breath, her jaw clenching tightly.

Lairen, confused and worried, bent down next to the suddenly ill Sairen. It wasn't long until he too felt the same pain she did, but in his right eye. One hand immediately went to his eye, clenching around the area as if to ease the pain, but it was meaningless. A pained groan escaped his lips as he ripped the eye patch off to reveal the darkened sclera. The pain was enough to throw off all his thoughts and dull his movements but he still managed to reach over to his sister. He could tell by the redness in her face that she was holding her breath in order to not make any noise, but at that rate, she'd pass out. He took his hand off his eye to pull Sairen's head away from the floor, placing the other hand in front of her mouth. She didn't need him to tell her what to do and as much as she didn't want to hurt her brother, she bit his hand. Her teeth clenched into his flesh before she let out a heavy breath from her nose. She groaned into his hand as the pain seemed to become stronger. Lairen, on the other hand, was quite grateful for the distraction. He thought of nothing but the pain of Sairen's teeth sinking into his hand and it seemed to ease the throbbing pain.

Moments later, the searing sensation they had felt eased and eventually ceased completely. Sairen, exhausted, fell on her side, sweat dripping from her forehead. Lairen brushed his uninjured hand along Sairen's face, grateful that whatever that was had stopped. He glanced at his other hand, which was now bleeding thanks to his sisters oddly sharp teeth, but it didn't seem to bother him. Instead, he lifted his sister in his arms princess-style before making their way back they had came. Whatever had caused that searing pain was definitely trouble and if it happened while they were fighting, it'd be bad. He had to get them out.

As much as he hated the idea, Lairen decided to look for Doran. If Sairen knew he had left Doran there, he'd surely be disowned as a brother. It didn't take him long to pick up on that annoyingly sarcastic voice and follow it to him. To his surprise, the woman they had met earlier was also there and ,from what Lairen heard as he approached, was also effected by the unknown attack. Before he could say anything, Lairen realized his eye patch was now missing from his face to reveal the black sclera and red iris beneath. Surrounding his eye was a patch of black skin-like material with a single white armor-like plate running along the right side of his eye.

"Is everything alright?" He asked, mostly to the woman.

"I-I'm fine. I don't think anything got me, but..." Violetta touched her rib area, wondering what in the world had just happened. No way could a bug have gotten her, especially on her ribcage. She had only seen dust when she was on the floor just a little bit earlier, so it couldn't have been something venomous...The bone was not only exposed, but it was rock solid. Violetta had yet to try, but she was certain these exposed ribs could take a hit from a sword...

So what caused that excruciating pain?

Was it something from Atlas..? But... Wouldn't her temporary companion have felt it too?

Maybe he wasn't like her? With something

She couldn't help but laugh a little when Doran offered to carry her at a price. Of course he would try to charge her; that's how mercs always were.

"I'm fine." She assured him once more, leaning against the wall to give herself another moment to recover. Violetta took a few deep breaths, calming her body and assuring it that everything was okay. She wanted the adrenaline to at least subside before she continued her searching.

Not long after, two more people came into the room, specifically the man and woman who had been grouped with the mercenary. She looked up at the two when they came in, getting a good look at them.

'Wow, they're both so beautiful... Breathtaking~ Night and day, yin and yang, or maybe even life and death. A Persephone and Hades-esque song would be in order?' She thought to herself, already beginning to take mental notes for a potential song about the two when her eyes caught something both shocking and... familiar.

"..."

His face...

Grimm. She knew the sight of a Grimm's eye from anywhere; hell, she hunted them for fun. No way that eye wasn't Grimm.

Was he...?

She straightened up from her spot and walked up to him, grabbing the front of his shirt with a look that held a mix of awe and desperation.

"Y-You... Are you- Are you just like me?" She asked him, a sad hopefulness present in her eyes that she had just found another person who underwent the same things she had in the past.

While Violetta couldn't remember a lot of it, there was clear evidence of her past right on her ribcage. All she knew about it was that it was a very traumatic experience that made her memory very selective on what it picked up from her time there. Bright lights, being surrounded, never able to feel comfortable, needles... If this man had undergone whatever had happened, then maybe the girl did too? Would they be fine with Violetta sticking with them for a little bit longer? It's been a long while since she had last encountered someone who could understand the pain she had gone through. At least that she knew of.

With what he had come for finally in hand, Axel had planned to leave the ruins as quickly as he possibly could to head out somewhere far and hopefully much cooler than the deserts of Vacuo to go through the information that was on the chip.

Just as he had left the headmaster's office and progressed his way down to the main lobby that also lead to the exit of the academy by the front entrance. The last thing Axel expected to find was chaos was going on right outside the academy, Atlas was dropping troops and a number of Grimm of all sorts were battling against them. "What the hell...? Where did all those Grimm come fr--" Just as the male questioned himself, the sudden appearance of a familiar face nearly had Axel draw his weapon out of surprise only to find that it was Nudara.
"Nudara?...What're you doing here? I thought you stayed in Zramore...I'm fine, what's with all the Grimm...? And you need help?"

Nudara may had already proven himself to be an ally though it wasn't as though Axel fully trusted the man just yet, the fact that he was here in the ruins of Vacuo had to mean that whatever he was going to need help with probably wasn't going to be anything too simple.
While awaiting for a response from him, the pink haired male returned his gaze out to the battlefield that was right outside the academy and down the main streets of the ruins. Through all the dust and debris, he swore he saw some kind of strange figure walking through all dust that rose up from the fighting; who could've been walking through that kind of a battle without so much as a problem.

While Atlas troops littered the ground one after another only to come into battle with the Grimm that followed the hooded man, he seemed to show no concern whatsoever for whatever stood in his path as he continued his slow walking pace down the center of the street. The sounds of men and women screaming echoed throughout the ruins by the hands of the Grimm while explosions from grenades, other weapons as well as mech suits being destroyed filled the streets yet the hooded figure did not stop to show the slightest bit of remorse.

Eventually, he reached towards the front gates to the courtyard of the academy only to be stopped by yet another massive mech suit manned by a woman who demanded the hooded figure to stop where and raise his hands up to be arrested for trespassing this far into the ruins. Without a word, the figure only continued to approach the courtyard entrance before the woman raised the right arm of the suit towards him which began charging a cannon. "I'm warning you! Halt or I will fire!" Even with the woman's warning, the hooded figure would not respond as he approached ever closer until the woman finally pulled the trigger to release a bright blue beam towards him.

"Foolish mortal." Slowly raising his right palm towards the beam; in an instant the beam vanished from sight as the woman could only sit in her suit confused about what just occurred. Before she could so much as question the man, the very same beam came blasting towards the woman from his left palm that he raised towards her. Aiming only for what the woman sat, she was immediately disintegrated leaving a melted hole in the mech suit of where the woman once sat. With his minor threat dealt with, the figure entered the courtyard only to take a seat on the head of what was the remains of the headmaster's statue of himself. "Now...to wait."

Meanwhile, back in the air. The Atlas commander who issued a warning and threat to the Golden Skies Corporation ship that still hovered over the ruins of the academy had awaited for a response while he tapped his boot on the bridge of the ship in an impatient manner. Without a response for quite some time, the commander was about to order the ships to open fire when a male voice spoke up over the comm. link, introducing himself as none other than Thanian Shreik. Knowing the name all too well, the commander remained silent while he watched the ship back away from the Grimm that surrounded his ship while the Atlas fighters continued to battle against the Grimm to keep them from doing any harm to the commander's main ship.

"Sir, what do we do? Opening fire on their ship with Thanian Shreik on board might end up causing Atlas a great deal of problems." One of the lieutenants brought up his concerns while the commander pondered his next course of action. He did have his orders to take out anyone and anything that stood in the path of their mission when the distress signal was sent out though he was not expecting the heir to the Golden Skies Corporation to be the one that was going to be in his way.
Cursing under his breath of what he should do, the commander eventually nodded his head at his mental decision he had made. "Keep power focused on the shields and side cannons. Take out the Grimm. Though, keep an eye on that ship. If they so much as make a single move that appears hostile...divert all power to the main gun and take them out immediately." With his command to his troops aboard the bridge, everyone saluted and responded with 'Yes Sir!'

"Thanian Shreik. I do not understand what reason you and your company may have business here in the ruins of Vacuo. However, Because of your current position. I will not open fire on you. Do whatever business you have here and leave immediately. Do we have an agreement?"
Responding over the comm. link after his command of his troops, the commander once more awaited yet another response; although he knew well enough opening fire on someone like Thanian would be bad for Atlas and their higher ups, if the man decided to attack first, the commander would not hesitate to fire back.

"Well you can laugh..." Doran mused, still eyeing her cautiously. Maybe it was some sickness the girl had or something, or so he thought to himself.

Either way, the unnamed woman appeared fine, if not just as wary as he was. Furthermore, it wasn't long before the siblings reappeared, the younger in the arms of the older. They appeared somewhat distraught, similarly to the musician, leading Doran to wonder just what was happening and if he should expect to get dropped relatively soon.

"I dunno, is everything alright?" He inquired, obviously referring the carried Sairen.

However, while he was interested in what exactly happened to them, another thing caught his eye, or rather two things. The first was Lairen's eye. Missing an eyepatch, it looked drastically different to his opposite. Black sclera, red iris and protruding white objects circling the socket. Sure, he had seen some weird character traits. Hell, Faunus especially could have any number of traits representing an animal, but his eye looked almost bestial... almost Grimm.

On top of that, the look the musician gave him as well as her following actions and words led to further confusion made clear with a raised brow. Like her? Doran wasn't quite sure what that was supposed to mean, but he wasn't determined to inquire for clarification.

Information was good; Doran had made his living based off information. Either he could make use of it, or he could sell it to someone else who could. It was a powerful currency, but also just as dangerous. Though he hadn't been all that worried as he grew older with more experience and skill, there was still a point in time where he had to follow the rules laid out by the streets. One was what he attributed to the thugs that chased the siblings down earlier in the day; learn to pick out the people you don't want to cross. Another was something very similar; know what business to learn of and capitalize on, and what business to keep your neck out of if you're fond of it.

Sairen and the musician seemed like nice people, for the kind of people that had to survive in Vacuo anyway. Lairen was Lairen. However, this whole like me line of questioning paired with the odd look of the man's eye gave the mercenary particular vibe. What that vibe was wasn't entirely clear, but it at the very least meant to be cautious regarding the subject.

"Weird... but okay," Doran murmured to himself.

Drawing one of his blades, he proceeded over to another locker. Inserting the weapon into the slit of the opening, Doran began to try jarring the container open, opting against the shotgun to avoid ruining the three's "moment", as well as to not draw as much attention to himself at the particular moment,

"Barely," he replied to Doran without even throwing a glance his way. Instead, he kept his eyes on the other female who was now approaching him. She grasped his shirt causing him to lean forward towards her. He gripped Sairen in his arms, holding her closer to his chest as to not smoosh her between them.

"Y-You... Are you- Are you just like me?" If his eye was the trigger, then surely she must be referring to being part Grimm. Was she also from that lab? Did she also undergo those experiments? Lairen pressed his lips together, his gaze meeting hers. He could see how desperate she was to have someone understand her. He couldn't even imagine not having anyone understand his pain or be there for him. The siblings were lucky enough to have each other after their escape, but she wasn't. She was alone, carrying the pain this entire time with no one to shoulder it.

"Yeah," he said simply, his voice barely escaping his lips as he spoke with sadness. It was then that Sairen stirred in his arms, her conscious returning as her eyes flickered open. When she came to, she was looking up at a woman and her brother having a moment. Though she hated to break it up, she didn't want to be in the middle.

"Lairen...?" She said quietly as if to disturb the peace as little as possible. Surprised, Lairen stepped back from the woman before letting his sister down gently. As soon as her feet hit the floor, she knees buckled. Though she managed to catch herself on Lairen, her entire body felt weak and continued to tremble from the slight pain that throbbed in her spine. After a moment to gather herself, she was able to stand on her own. Her eyes met her brothers before realizing he didn't have his eye patch. Hurriedly, she reached into the small bag on his hip, pulling out a spare eye patch that he kept handy. He took it, hesitating a moment to look at the other female again before tying it over his eye. Seeing how her brother looked at the woman, she decided to get out of his way by sneaking over to Doran who was attempting to open a locker. By now, the pain had mostly subsided.

"We didn't find much," she reported, pulling out her fan to lightly touch the tip of it against the lock of the locker. Her fan began to glow a light blue as it froze the lock, making it easier for Doran to break. She leaned against the locker beside it, her head still a bit light from exhaustion. "Find anything?" She questioned, watching as he searched.

Lairen glanced at the casual chatter between his sister and Doran and as much as he wanted to interrupt, the other woman seemed like she needed someone. He placed his hand gently on her head reassuringly. He couldn't leave her alone or brush her off, not in this state. "I'm Lairen. Over there is my sister, Sairen. We... We're like you," he said gently. Perhaps with his, some of the burden would be taken off her shoulders. She wouldn't feel so alone.

Though Doran was primarily focused on the locker in front of him, his eyes would occasionally drift at the group of three. Aside from the three acting strange with a whole lot of like me's, which he still wasn't sure what that meant, Sairen also appeared to be even worse for wear than the musician was. What happened when they ran off by themselves? Did it have anything to do what happened to the musician?

Nonetheless, she made her way over to him, leaving Lairen to have his moment with the other girl after hastily bringing out another eyepatch. Whatever was wrong with his eye was worth hiding. Either way, with Sairen freezing the lock, it allowed Doran to pry it open with far more ease. Unfortunately, the current locker wasn't home to such valuables as a huntsman weapon...

...Just an old pizza and some spare dirty clothes along with some other unmentionables.

One quizzical, yet frustrated glance at its contents and Doran shut the locker with a sigh.

"Only this thing," Doran said, directing her sight to the rifle on his back with a point of his thumb. "What the hell happened to you two?"

It didn't take a very perceptive eye to note Sairen's condition. It didn't look like they ran into a Grimm, more like she was just fatigued. Then again, she couldn't have been that exhausted from just walking around. On top of that, they had already been in the ruins for a while. Remaining for much longer would likely be pushing their luck, and Doran really didn't want to risk having to escape in a hurry in their condition. Hell, what if the musician collapsed out of nowhere again?

"...We should probably think about leaving," Doran said with a sigh. "I got a huntsman weapon at least... and I don't really wanna stick around and see if I can bust all these lockers faster than Atlas can get here."

Violetta stood there for a second, the word that left Lairen's mouth still registering in her mind. Now that she thought about it, she felt a bit guilty putting him on the spot like that. She didn't mean to honestly; she just got a little excited meeting another person who was just like her...

If she had to describe the feeling, she'd say it was bittersweet.

Violetta finally met a person who was able to understand her better than anyone else in the world... But, was it really a good thing? This meant that the man in front of her had suffered those experiments just as she had. Violetta's memory was foggy at best regarding the past but that was because her brain was protecting her from reliving the fear... It was terrifying to think that such a kind looking person had been in the same situation... Was he okay, psychologically that is? He seemed sound, but then again one couldn't really tell just by meeting a person.

The woman in his arms, the girl from in the sewers, had awoken. Violetta took a step back to give her some room when she stood, ready to step closer again in case she needed to catch her, but she seemed fine.

Violetta watched her take an eyepatch out from the man's bag, and when the man hesitatingly looked at her, Violetta simply smiled reassuringly as she waited.

She too had her own Grimm infected area, one she would have shown to make things even if she could. it's just... Well, she couldn't show it without showing a lot more skin than this man needed to see. That part of her body was a special privilege!

For a moment, Violetta's attention went to the white-haired woman again to ensure that she could walk fine, but then she felt a hand rest on her head. The man had introduced himself and the girl that was walking away.

'Lairen and Sairen hm? Ahh, how majestic! Yin and Yang~'

She did wonder why their parents gave them rhyming names, but that was a question she would likely never ask.

Violetta didn't remove the hand from her head; in fact, it'd been far too long since she'd felt another person's touch like this. Wandering by herself did get quite lonely after all...

"I'm sorry for putting the spotlight on you so suddenly, so-to-say. Honestly, it's kind of bittersweet knowing you and Sairen are just like me. It's reassuring that there are people out there who understand, but... you understand. You both seem like nice people... It pains me knowing you both went through it too..." She smiled again at him, this one softer than before. "I'm Violetta. A pleasure to meet you, Lairen."

Her attention turned from Lairen back to Doran hearing him speak, "He's right," She said after he finished, "Fighting an army wasn't part of my schedule today; Let's hurry up before we get arrested."

They had many options to take regarding their way out; they just needed to be careful about not getting injured or spotted by Atlas...

At this point, was avoiding Atlas even a possibility? Violetta didn't see any working cameras but there was always a chance they hid some.

Sitting on the chunk of debris patiently while he continued to wait for his targets to make their arrival, the hooded figure appeared almost lifeless from how he was hunched over with little to no movements whatsoever. Time went by as the Grimm and Atlas troops continued to do battle with one another both on land as well as in the air; corpses of men, women and mechanized suits fell all throughout the ruins as well as Grimms fading away from those being defeated.
It was only a matter of time until those he had been waiting for had finally made their appearance before the hooded figure. While the small group caught up with one another and had their conversation, the hooded figure would begin to stand from his seat just to approach the group only to stop several feet away from them all. Even with his head lowered to keep his face hidden from sight, he could easily make out the voices of each person that spoke and their familiar aura only confirmed his thoughts of who they all were after-all.

Blanche, the huntress who was apart of the Faunus group known as the White Fang. Aelius, the huntsmen who learned about his semblance simply after an ambush by Grimm. Violetta, one of the test subjects of Project Grimm that had actually survived up till now after the incident with the facilities. Reign, yet another huntsmen who ended up finding love within his team only for it to be ripped away from him. Doran, the young mercenary huntsmen who lost everything in one night at his village. Acroma, yet another test subject that had lived their life up to this day after the incident with each of the Project Grimm facilities, and finally the siblings; Lairen and Sairen Lee, another set of test subjects from the very same project.
They were all here before him and yet there was still two others that were missing from the group that his Grimm spies had informed him about, no matter, he would deal with them later.

"Ah, hello again my dearest...friends. You all look so very well. It appears the years have been well on all of you." Finally, as the hooded figure spoke aloud to the group that conversed with one another, he would simply give a bow to greet them.

"But how can you all be so joyful when you refuse to accept your own truths?"

With his next comment, the hooded figure would finally remove his hood to reveal his identity; with hair as white as snow, a pair of dual sapphire horns, black markings all across his face while both eyes glimmered in a bluish golden hue, a wide toothy white grin spread across his lips as with a single snap of his fingers; three revenant Grimms approached from behind the male. Each of them held their weapons in hand even if their bodies were mainly Grimm-like, the sounds of gurgling and hisses came from the trio that continued to approach until they all stood beside the white haired male.
The three figures were Blanche's best friend Burgundy, Aelius' father, and Reign's teammate/lover Violet. They all hissed and growled while stating how each of their respected friends and family that now stood before them were to blame for what happened to them now.
Simply hearing how the revenant blamed those before him for what had happened to them caused the strange male to chuckle before he had reached his right Grimm hand to cover up a majority of his face aside from his left eye as he began to burst into a maniacal laughter. "Oh?! Hah! That was not what I was expecting! How wonderful! Even with their bodies turned into Grimm, their minds are still intact to even blame you all for what happened to them?! How intriguing! Now, go! Show them your vengeance!" With the command, the three revenants immediately charged to attack those they knew.

In the midst of his laughter, Zayne had quickly came to an immediate halt while the three began to do battle with those they once called friends and family; his attention now laid upon the remaining four. Sure, he could've simply brought the revenant of these four to the ruins with him to let these four also deal with their past but yet the fact that these were once test subjects from his Project and the fact that they escaped and survived up until now brought more rage boiling inside the male than anything else.
"I must ask...Do you four, remember my face?" As Zayne questioned the four who stood before him, slowly through the smoke and dust from battle behind him, a floating Grimm orb came up beside the man as he held it by it's base only to have the Grimm begin giving off a deep crimson glow that soon shifted into a deep purple. Those who laid their eyes upon it for even so much as a moment would've been placed instantly into a hallucination of their own past; in this case, for the four Aura Grimm, it would send them back to their time during the Project to make them suffer every waking moment of their experimentations.
While for the other three, if they were to look it would send them back into a distorted form of their past of the day they lost those close to them if not making up a scenario just for them to appear as though they lost those close to them.

As the group finally ushered itself outside, two ships could be spotted in the distance, as well as the howling of a large horde of Grimm could be heard. While Doran wondered just what the hell was going on, the area suddenly became far more populated. First of note was another group of individuals who seemed to be just entering the ruins of the academy, though one could wonder just why anyone would attempt to do so at this point. However, before he could test if they were adversaries, another individual strolled forth.

The new individual approached with a bow, speaking as if hey were all old friends. However, Doran looked around warily, moving a hand closer to one of his guns. He sure as hell didn't know the guy, and he only became more certain when the hood came off. Was he speaking to everyone else here?

Soon enough, three Remnant appeared as if from nowhere. They growled and hissed, and even spoke towards particular members of the other group before attacking them. Though Doran wasn't the target of the Grimm himself, he wasn't about to wait and see if he could just walk away. Yet just as he went to grip his weapon, the figure's eyes shone and suddenly the mercenary felt his entire world slip away.

Outwardly, Doran would appear to simply freeze in place with a glazed look to his eyes. Inwardly, Doran sight would be overcome with darkness before being replaced by a familiar sight. The area that was once the academy grounds was now the village he spent a very brief portion of his childhood. His companions and those he knew not of gone and in their stead were the men and women of his village. Doran himself felt stuck, as if a formless consciousness knowing full well what would occur and yet could do naught.

Gunfire and clanging metal sounded off. Shouts and cries filled the air. Doran heard the shriek of a familiar voice before finding his vision focused on the bloody image of a young woman. Suddenly his sight turned to a slightly older man who shared many similarities of visage. The man struck him, demanded he conceal himself, then turned to fight. In his memories, Doran fled and hid as instructed. Yet now with no body to run with, he watched clearly as the man cut down assailant after assailant before a blade suddenly protruded through his midsection and his image cut and evaporated like slashing through smoke.

Then the damnable scene replayed, again and again, with Doran frozen as an rooted spectator.

Everything went incredibly quick for Reign.

He was still debating whether or not he should get into of what was left of the once pyramidal shape of Shade Academy when Acroma stumbled back onto the car and used some ice dust to cool himself. Reign did not know whether to be worried or not, but in the end, he decided to chalk it up to overheating. Both of them were pale and even he sometimes noticed his circuits overheating, despite growing up in Vacuo's deserts. Add to that the fact that Acroma was not at all dressed for the occasion and that he must've been used to much cooler climates and you had yourself a pretty safe way to eventually collapse under the heat of the sun.

Reign had even seen it happen before. His… friend, Lilac, came from Atlas as well, she was also not dressed correctly for the weather and the heat eventually got to her so much that she broke down during training.

Acroma also seemed to get better rather quickly, and Reign made a mental note to watch if something like that happened again. He also quickly looked through his things. If they were going to go through with this and head into the ruins it would ve best to check his equipment. Albtraum still had a good couple of shots and he still had five cartridges of fire dust remaining. Not too much, but it would do to get through some Atlas troops. Or at least he hoped so.

But it did not get to that. A hooded figure showed up close to them. Reign was about to make a snarky remark about the cloaked figure's dramaticism, but then his own name fell, and that of Lilac as well.
'How the hell did he-'

Reign didn't even get to finish the thought as a group of Grimm approached from behind the figure. One of them bore a striking resemblance of Lilac as well. The short hazel colored hair was still there. He frame was a few inches taller than Reign, and he didn't fail to notice that her weapon was drawn.

Her weapon, the Purple Rainmaker, was double-edged blade that was golden along the fuller and had lines engraved into it, the sharp parts were colored purple. The hilt was akin to that of a rapier, however just above the handguard the barrel of a weapon was visible and stretched out about two inches along the blade, the barrel belonged to a machine pistol that was integrated into the sword, the trigger was located at the handle.

She whisper-yelled somethings again and again, "Why did you leave me? You said you would protect me? It's your fault! ALL YOUR FAULT!!"

Reign felt as if she was just speaking his own thoughts to him. He felt sick to his stomach with guilt and regret. Reign could not help it. Tears quickly welled up in his eyes and immediately began running down his cheeks. He had always blamed himself for her death before, but hearing it from her mouth, with her voice stung. Much more than it would if anyone else would have said it. It was his fault. He was to blame. He ruined her life and he drove her into death. He was the infection, the cause. Reign felt as if he was about to throw up his own guts. He was what went wrong. He should be in her place.

Eventually, the Grimm-Lilac lunged for him with the blade. Reign only stumbled backward, his body moved more from instinct and routine rather than him reacting to the strike. He was still too stunned and shocked by what he saw.

His movements were not nearly as fast as they should be. He only barely blocked the strikes of the Purple Rainmaker with the faces of his chakrams. He was completely off his game, he did not know how to act in the face of this situation. Lilac was faster and much, much stronger than she used to be.

Reign was making a wild guess what her capabilities were. It was clearly a Grimm he was fighting, but the closest a Grimm ever came to humanoid appearance was a Geist and they were still far from looking like the Grimm-Lilac he was fighting. Then she was able to speak properly, a Grimm that could talk? Impossible! It struck Reign at that point that, if this Grimm-Lilac had her weapon, appearance, voice… memories. Then it might have her semblance as well. If so, then he and everyone else were in deep trouble. She was already strong enough as is, but there were way too many people around who were probably not brimming with happiness to face Lilac with her semblance activated. Reign had to act and fast.

He had already battled Lilac several times in training, but that was training and wildly different. Not just that, but she was already much stronger and faster than Lilac was and if it could use her semblance, then that would only get worse. But if she had her memories that meant Reign knew where her weak spots were, what he could use to his advantage. He had to put her down. Somehow.

The next strike that came in from Lilac was not blocked by Reign like any other attack that was thrown his way. He spun one of his chakrams against the blade, so that one of the two hooked parts, that were placed on each Traumfänger, hooked in the Purple Rainmaker. Reign used that momentum to flip sideways and send a kick straight to the Lilac-Grimm's temple. When he landed he distanced himself a little.

She had dropped the blade, giving Reign enough time to jam two of the fire dust cartridges into both of his weapons. He began spinning one around his finger and soon enough it began sparking and a spin later it caught fire.

Meanwhile, the Lilac-Grimm had retrieved her blade and was rushing for Reign again. Before she could swipe at him, Reign threw the flaming chakram straight into the air and soon blinked after it. In mid-air, he caught the crossed bars that made for his weapon's handle between his fingers and immediately hurled it down again, at the abomination that resembled his former love.

Reign was almost a hundred percent that this was not the person he loved once, not even a person to begin with. Lilac had died - Or at least the rest of what made up team GRVL agreed that that was the only logical conclusion - and Reign had come to terms with it, maybe not in time to not push away the only remaining friends he had, but he did. Whatever this Grimm was that he was fighting was nothing more than that, a Creature of Grimm, soulless, holding just as much worth.

Reign focused on the Grimm again. It had sidestepped and caught the flamming chakram, the flames quickly extinguishing. So Reign came up with an idea.

He tapped one of the pouches on his belt that held an incendiary dust cartridge, letting some of his aura flow into it. Immediately he felt the spot on his belt heat up. A light smile appeared on his face.

He used his semblance one more time, rushing for the chakram Lilac held. She was fast before, and she may be even faster now than ever before, but Reign was convinced she did not have the reflexes to keep up with his blinks.

He was right.

Quickly he zapped toward the chakram, engulfing himself in flames from the dust as he accelerated his decent. He hit his former love directly on the chest, the flames burning into her, the sand below his got flung into the air and Reign did not fail to notice that small clusters of sand had gotten enough heat to turn to glass, which was also flung away from him. Reign held onto the chakram, while the Grimm-Lilac released from the heat and pain.

Reign rushed her, turning his chakrams to clubs as he did. Without hesitating, she sent the Purple Rainmaker toward his head. Reign simply blocked with one of the iron rods, then he swiftly thrust the other rod from below against her chin. Hitting her square in the jaw and setting her flying.

The blades of his weapons came back out and Reign began laying into the Lilac-Grimm. Strike followed strike, followed strike. Quickly he turned from well-timed and routined strikes to an anger and sadness induced windmill of sharp blades. Eventually, he managed to catch the Purple Rainmaker between one of the hooks of his chakrams and moved it out of the way. He spun around and had one of his weapons headed straight for his opponent's throat.

But there it was. That little bit of hesitation. Looking at the face he had loved, that he would without hesitation sacrificed his life for. There was this glimmer of hope that she was still in there somewhere. He couldn't. He never could have to begin with.

The Grimm simply gave Reign a headbutt, sending him to his knees, before smashing its own knee straight against the bridge of his nose. Before he could begin to react, he was sent flying onto his back.

The Lilac-Grimm dropped down on his chest, pinning down his shoulders with her knees. She began hammering against his face with the pommel and handguard of her weapon. At this rate, once his Aura gave out, she would smash his head into a pulp and he could feel his Aura slip more and more with each hit.

She was still talking to him. "It's all your fault! You should have come with me! Why weren't you there! I had to go through so much pain, just because of you!! You're alone now! No one will save you! No one will ever love you!! No one could ever love you! You're so selfish and ignorant, you think that you protect others from pain by keeping away from them, but you only ever make it worse!! You can only hurt, never heal! You're dead weight, useless! YOU COULD NOT SAVE A SINGLE SOUL IF YOU TRIED! YOU'RE WORTHLESS!!"

Despite all this, there was only one word burning on Reign's mind.

Why?

The tears kept rolling down his face, as he looked on straight into the once beautiful, magical purple orbs within the eyes of the creature. All the luster was gone. It had been gone for a long time. The happiness, the love, and passion they once reflected. All gone. All replaced by a dull purple. Reign heard himself sob. He could not raise his arms to try and defend himself, all the power he had within his body had been washed away. He did this to her. His sobbing only got louder. Then he heard himself scream. Not out of pain, or because of anything around him, the fear, the uncertainty if he would survive or not. It was a scream filled with sadness and regret. If he had never shown up, then she would be so much happier than she was now. Maybe it would be better like this. Maybe this ... thing should take his life. Maybe that could keep others from harm and make people happy.

Reign closed his eyes, still sobbing. If this was how it was supposed to end. Then he would be ready.

"Huh?" Still in a daze, after the sharp pains gave away to dull aches, Blanche walked him to him and made a gesture. Acroma tapped his fingertips to his lower lip, a few drops of blood stained his skin and gloves, this, of course, did not bother him a great deal. After all, the wound was close to nothing compared to strains he has endured. The young man licked his lower lip quickly, making sure no blood kept on dripping out. "Hmph. I'm alright." He half-heartedly replied to the white-haired Faunus, before recollecting his thoughts once more.

Though Acroma could scarcely catch a break before the slight sound of footsteps upon the Vacuo dust caught his attention, the others in the group seem to have noticed a newcomer as well. It was a hooded figure, tall and board, it spoke with a certain tone, one that Acroma knew all too well. Condescending, with a tinge of madness. Brushing his cold sweat-drenched hair out of his narrowed eyes, Acroma fixated his gaze on the figure, watching the motion of his limbs while sliding two of his hard light dust cards from his sleeve to his hand. The moment the hood flew off a metallic card sharply landed in the dirt beside the man. Acroma's fear was confirmed, it was the man from the facility he was imprisoned in. Sightings of him were rare but unforgettable. The man who had the power to control Grimm and Revenant, the man who would bring him the truth he had pursued for so long.

The Revenant dashed forward in the next second under his command, Acroma channeled his aura into the card in his hand, the hard light dust expanded and formed a short blade along the card's edges. Without pause he dashed towards the white haired man, kicking up a small cloud of dust as he leaped towards the man's direction. He had no interest in the man's hollow words, they have already proven less than useless, only serving as charcoal for the fires of misery he kindled. The card that is sticking out of the ground also glowed a bit as a glowing blue light blade began to extend. The combination of close ranged attacks and distanced traps, it was Acroma's go to strategy during man to man combat. Despite his efforts, the blade that extended from the ground dissipated, as if it has stuck something too powerful and shattered on contact. It was only then Acroma realized the orb that hovered behind Zayne's back, but it was too late as a burning sensation quickly surged through his body. Strength in his limbs quickly vanished and was replaced with sharp stinging, plummeting the attacker to the ground. "Damn it." A few dry coughs came out of Acroma as he laid on the dusty ground, he could see the dirt, blades of grass and trees in the distance, but the scenery is quickly turning into a blur as more of his body gave away to the aching agony.

Blistering Vacuo sunlight was beaming down on the land with harsh bright light, soon the world gave away to a sea of white. Acroma tried to open his eyes and survey the surroundings, though the sensation of every bone in his body being shattered rendered it a fruitless effort. He knew this room, the room he was kept in, the room he was experimented on. His head was pounding, the flow of his blood and beating of his heart can be clearly heard in his own eardrums. A surge of dismay washed over Acroma as he contemplated the possibility of being locked back up again. "Tsk." The pain still clawed at his skin, but after gathering his strength for minutes the young man twitched slightly and dragged himself a distance to the wall. "Locking me up…" his throat burned as air passed through it, almost as if blood will surge from vocal cords at any moment, "so what."

If he escaped alone once, he'll just do it again. He will do it a hundred, a thousand times if he needs to. Acroma tried to blink the sweat and tears that mustered his vision out of his eyes. If his memories were correct, the first time he escaped when his semblance caused the door to the training rooms to malfunction, and everything just began to fall into place from there. He waited for a single moment when the pain subdued for a fraction of a second, where a slight glow washed over Acroma's body. 'If I use it here...it sh-shoul.' Another wave of pain slashed through his train of thought. What followed felt like an eternity, each second the pain was weighed down by anxiety as Acroma waited for his chance to arrive. It never did. He was confused, this hasn't happened before, how could his semblance not make a difference to the situation.

It was then that the realization hit him. There has not been a single other soul. Not a researcher, not another test subject, not even a Grimm. His semblance did not alter this world, because this was never a true world,to begin with.

Blanche's eyes widened, her mouth suddenly became dry and her heart felt like it had fallen into her stomach at the sight before her. The man in the hood went ignored as her eyes would not leave Burgundy. A million thoughts ran through her mind, trying to make sense of the phenomenon before her. A part of her suspected that this was the man's semblance; it was the only thing that made sense. This had to be an illusion. It was impossible. Burgundy was dead… No… No, no, no…

Burgundy was dead.

What the hell did he mean "he turned them into Grimm?!"

Nononononononononononono.

"It's all your fault…" A soft voice spoke up, just loud enough for Blanche to hear. "You know that, right?"

"I…" Blanche finally found her voice. She watched the Grimm-like figure look to her. The deep cut on her throat was prominent, showing where the dagger that took her life so long ago had sliced through. "I do know that."

The cow Faunus felt her stomach churn. Blanche activated her Semblance as she reached behind her waist for her dual pistols, the searing pain shooting across her body as she tried to focus.

"You could have saved me! I-I should still be alive right now, but you just sat there and watched! Why didn't you save me?! Did you enjoy watching me suffer?!"

"Burgundy… N-No, that's not-"

"Don't lie to me!"

In a flash, the Grimm-like figure rushed forward. Blanche quickly took stance and shot a couple of bullets, but none of them stopped Burgundy. Shocked, the cow Faunus was forced to use her arms to block the upcoming punch, her face twisting in a bit of pain from the harsh impact.

'She's stronger, faster too. Bullets don't work either…' Blanche took a mental note of this and prepared herself for the upcoming attack.

With her punch blocked, Burgundy moved to swing her knee at Blanche's side to try and stun her, but Blanche quickly hopped back, forcing Burgundy to miss while she shoved her guns back in their holsters. When finished, Blanche reeled her fist back and launched it forward, aiming to punch the other in the jaw and end this then and there, but Burgundy quickly ducked. Blanche's eyes widened, realizing that not only was her friend's strength and speed enhanced in this state, but her reflexes as well.

'Wh-What the hell? Was Burgundy always this good at fighting?' She asked herself as she tried to recover quickly.

With the opening made, Burgundy thrust her head upward, hitting Blanche in the jaw before the rabbit Faunus grabbed her friend's horns and pulled the cow Faunus's head down towards her long knee attack.

Blanche quickly moved her hands in front of her and caught the knee, saving herself a broken nose. However, her heart was still just not in this fight.

She never thought she'd see the day where she'd have to exchange fists with her best friend. Burgundy had never been a great fighter; she had always been too nice to even consider swinging a punch. Blanche had to not only protect the two of them but teach her friend how to defend herself in the case of a threat.

Burgundy had always needed protection… So why was she fighting so well?

What did he do to her?

Burgundy hissed and tried to move, but Blanche's gradually strengthening grip wasn't budging. Blanche was buying time for her strength to continue growing, unbeknownst to her friend who died before she could fully learn how Blanche's semblance worked.

"Th-This is impossible!" Blanche finally said, "I-I buried you! I held your hand when you died! You told me if something were to happen, to not blame myself… H-How did he do this?"

"I only told you that so you wouldn't feel guilty. It's called lying." Burgundy chuckled as Blanche looked up to her, "Aw, don't give me that look, Blanche."

"How did he do this?" Blanche repeated her question, earning a shrug of the shoulders.

"Why don't you ask him instead?"

Blanche said nothing, the words coming from her old friend sinking in, but they did not ring genuine. Her face twisted into anger, her physical and emotional pain becoming worse at the realization of what she'd have to do. She didn't want to, but this was for Burgundy's sake.

The cow Faunus gripped Burgundy's shin and swung her over her head, slamming the girl into ground. The Grimm-figure created a small crater where she collided with the ground, the force of the slam making Burgundy's body bounce back up for another attack.

She quickly moved towards Burgundy's head and grabbed the other girl's face. Blanche thrust her arm forward, forcing the girl's body to completely flip back from being on her stomach on to her back inside the small crater. She had the other pinned, looked down at Burgundy as she tried to wave past the emotions she was feeling from attacking her friend.

"Y-You're not her. You're not her. Burgundy would never attack me. You're just a clone. A fraud… A monstrosity… You're not her. It's impossible." Blanche repeated these words to herself, staring death at her deceased friend but it only made Burgundy smirk.

"Denial gets you nowhere."

Burgundy quickly made a move, an attempt to break Blanche's arm with a forceful strike but Blanche quickly pulled back to prevent it from happening.

Blanche reeled back another punch, this one aimed for Burgundy's head but the rabbit Faunus rolled over, making Blanche hit the Earth beneath her. Burgundy windmilled herself back onto her feet, following it with a back kick towards Blanche's jaw, but Blanche saw this coming. She backstepped to make the kick miss but did not engage. Instead, she paused, glaring at the rabbit Faunus.

"This isn't denial, it's the truth… Burgundy died that day, but with her dying breath, she told me it wasn't my fault… I know it's my fault, but Burgundy was way too nice to ever say so. That girl couldn't even say excuse me without feeling guilty about it... You're not her."

Blanche cracked her knuckles, one followed by another, before continuing, "I'll finish this… You're a corpse Burgundy… I just have to finish this f-fight… Finish it… Make you a corpse again…"

She didn't want to dwell on her emotions too long. Her cousin always said that they only served to get in the way. The sooner she set them aside, the sooner she could finish her battles.

Burgundy smirked and took stance again, "Tch, nice spee-"

Before Burgundy could finish, Blanche launched herself forward. Burgundy swung a punch which Blanche deflected with her left arm, leaving Burgundy open for a brief second; the only second Blanche needed to unleash hell.

Blanche hooked her right fist into Burgundy's stomach, forcing her to double over before taking an uppercut from Blanche's left. The white haired woman side-stepped to the left to avoid Burgundy's next attack and readied for the next swing. She crossed her arms and blocked Burgundy's punch, bringing her friend close enough for Blanche's next move.

Blanche picked Burgundy up and tossed her over her head, and then with a solid kick to the abdomen, Blanche launched Burgundy into stone and rubble.

She rushed quickly towards the location where Burgundy landed, already planning her next moves. Blanche's plan of action was to not let Burgundy have a chance to think, and she would keep following this plan until she won.

If she let Burgundy take a shot in, it could be all her friend needed to have Blanche join her in the afterlife.

Burgundy had only just managed to hoist herself out of the stone she collided with when Blanche swung her right elbow into Burgundy's abdomen, taking the breath out of her. Blanche followed it with multiple punches to Burgundy's face and neck area. Left, right, left, right, left, right, each followed with painful smacks and crunches that would have definitely broken an opponent's face.

Burgundy tried to block but Blanche's increasing strength allowed her to break right through it. Her right fist hooked upwards, uppercutting Burgundy with enough force that it lifted the smaller woman's body into the air, only for it to be followed by a down hook punch that put Burgundy back on her feet.

Blanche long knee'd Burgundy's abdomen, sending the girl into the air long enough for Blanche to see her next mode of attack. A large, sizable rock; the finisher. She then swung her heel downwards, knocking Burgundy's head down then Blanche kicked upward to make Burgundy reel back from the force. Down, up, down, up; Blanche repeated this pattern until she was sure her friend was woozy.

Blanche then picked the girl up by the neck and tossed her onto the ground. She, with her enhanced strength, picked up the rock she had seen earilier with much effort. Blanche hoisted it above her head, then without a second to spare or to regret her actions, moved to slam it onto Burgundy's body.

"BLANCHE-"

A sickening crunch followed shortly, the raw, emotional scream that escaped her old friend released memories that Blanche had had locked away in her head.

The terror.

The despair.

All of it, in just that one scream.

Burgundy had called to her during the attack on the caravan, just like that. Right after, the men that attacked them managed to take Burgundy to the ground. They taunted Blanche, and forced her to watch as they slit open her best friend's throat.

Simply because they were Faunus.

All because of something neither of them could control, her best friend perished during their happy-go-lucky merchant journey.

And Blanche couldn't protect her…

She had broken the arms and legs of those men and left them to die by Grimm, but Blanche still felt empty.

It was all her fault that Burgundy died. Even her dying breath couldn't stop Blanche's inner demons from forming.

Blanche was at fault for everything that happened to Burgundy…

Her eyes caught something.

An arm.

Burgundy's arm that had not been crushed by the rock laid lifelessly, pinned between the stone and the Earth.

Blanche fell to her knees next to Burgundy's hand, taking it into her own. It was cold and bony, with withered muscle tissues keeping it together.

Nothing like the original Burgundy, but it was still Burgundy…

Blanche bit back the tears, panting heavily as her semblance's physical pain was temporarily numbed due to the emotional one. She wished she could mourn, but there was another battle she had to attend to.

Her eyes turned to Zayne, watching for his next move.

Violetta thought everything would be going smoothly once they were outside of the Academy. Things were finally looking up for her now that she managed to discover new friends who understood her experiences better than anyone else. Doran seemed really nice too, even if he was going to start charging her for his services.

But then, outside, a hooded man awaited them. This man felt… familiar. His face brought terror into her, to the point that she was nothing more than a deer in headlights.

She wanted to move, to run, to do anything. But like a hypnosis, Violetta was caught. The fear had frozen her, and until the man started attacking her, Violetta wouldn't be able to snap out of it.

Soon enough, three Remnants appeared growling and hissing words towards three specific people that she had not met yet. Then, before she knew it, she was trapped again.

Violetta stared blankly into space in reality, but in her own world, everything had gotten darker and much colder. The Academy grounds were, instead, a laboratory with different equipment everywhere. Doctors and scientists in masks crowded around her bound down body, stabbing her with different syringes holding different concoctions. When she'd scream and cry out, they only observed. When she asked questions, she was only met with silence or demands that she stop talking.

When she asked if her parents okay, the doctors only looked between each other before resuming their work. Was there something none of them wanted to tell her?

Each scene presented a new experiment and a new trauma that Violetta's mind had muddied to protect her. She closed her eyes, hoping it would all go away soon. She wanted to scream, but she knew the dangers of doing so and so she bit the inside of her cheek to stop herself.
