Ladies and gentleman when you have not seen the wonders of the world until you have witnessed a single man brave the jaws of death and seen the spectacular Lady Violet defy gravity or heard the Ancient Oracle predict your future.
Ladies and Gentleman, for a single nickel you can witness all this and more, please, please come forward and these kind sirs will take you right inside.
The Conley Brothers Circus is more than meets the eye, for every performer, every workman, every soul aboard the Conley Brothers circus train, has a gift. Only those who can pass Conley's test are admitted into the secret pact that gives these gifted souls a safe haven from normal everyday life.
Alfred Conley, Al to his friends, believes that normality is only a perception. Normal is the ability to function at your fullest capacity without fear of judgment.
Al offers the opportunity for a normal life to those who can't find it in the mundane world.
The setting is, of course, aboard the train, traveling from place to place and performing to raise enough money to get by in a world soon to fall into the great depression. Yes, that's right, this takes place during the prohibition. Don't be alarmed! Alcohol is still readily available, the train simply swings through Canada at the start of the season and stocks up.
The goal of every circus of the time was to become as big or bigger than Big Bertha! (The Ringling Brothers) Which means the more attractions, the better. In this circus, it's no different. There may be magic abounding but money is money and without it the circus will fail. Everyone has to do their part.

- There won't be any modern technologies in this rp, it's set in the 20's, please research or ask about things if you aren't sure. I've done a fair bit of research on Circus' in that era. I'll add some reference links as well.
- Posting length and frequency: I'd like for everyone to be able to post a few times a week. Length? Try to do a few paragraphs but quality over quantity.
- We'll post in a designated order so that nobody gets left behind. If you have nothing to post you can pass. If you're going to be gone PLEASE tell us so that we aren't constantly checking, but we will wait. I don't want people left behind. More about this in the actual RP thread. Link at the bottom of the post.

Alfred Conley @KJDarKnight

Gender: Male
Gift: he can expand the space within an enclosed area and he is also charismatic, he doesn't even have to say anything. This just means that your characters living quarters can be whatever the heck you want because Alfred will have expanded the space within every train car so everyone has a living space, all the animals have lovely habitats etc.... He also expands the space inside of the bigtop before each performance so that there is plenty of room for the audience and for the show itself.
This also means, that, unless your characters gift prevents his charisma from working, you don't question him. He won't force things (I won't) This doesn't mean your characters are idiots. After they leave his presence they can question everything he says and defy him all they want. I basically have this as one of his abilities because he's the ringmaster who draws in the crowd and because he's gotta somehow keep peace with a bunch of misfits with special powers (some of which I imagine could end him) So it's like a protection more than anything.
Application of gift: Ringmaster (and owner of the circus)
Appearance: He's fairly tall, 6' 1", brown hair and green eyes, lean build. He dresses to impress. While not always super fancy, he always looks nice

Personality: Obviously he's charismatic and more than a little bit full of himself. Arrogant but kind and understanding. For all his faults, he is a forgiving person and really hates conflict.
When his charismatic ability doesn't work, he doesn't know what to do, relying on it to get his way a little too much.

Name: Raven Crux
Gender: Male
Gift: He is small and agile, able to climb things with ease and do acrobatics. He can also mimic powers of other people, he is not able to necessarily the ability, but he can make the illusion of it. For example if someone was able to shoot fire out of their hands he could do it too except his fire wouldn't be real, or hot. He also requires a object the other person owns in order to mimic their ability.
Application of gift: He can do acrobatics, extreme stunts, or do a show playing off anothers abilities.
Appearance: He is about 5'8, very slim build. He is very pale, with black hair shaved into an undercut. His eyes are yellow, and he always dresses well as possible. He also always has three pieces of jewelry on him at all times, an ear ring, a bracelet and a sapphire necklace. These items have a strange vibe.
Age: 17
Personality: Skiddish, yet haughty, and always ready with a quip. He likes to insult people which usually results in them chasing him. He enjoys being chased, but he doesn't like to be caught, so he always has an escape plan. He isn't very good at fighting because of his small build and because he just seems to suck at it. He also has sticky fingers, and often ends up with things that don't belong to him. He likes to write emo poetry which he keeps hidden from everyone.
Bio: Raven is very close mouthed about his history. His name also clearly seems to be a fabrication. He seemed to of been living on the streets for awhile, which may explain his kleptomaniac, and distrustful behavior. When he showed up to apply for the job it seemed to be out of desperation to make a living where no one would ask any questions. [/spoili]

Name: Ilinca Dalca (ili for short)
Age: 18
Gender: Female
Gift: (in her case she has a few) Psychometry (She can see things from the past by touching objects or people) she can also create illusions
Application of gift: Fortune teller (she mostly fakes this, touching the object to get the feel for the person and tell them what they want to hear and uses her illusions in her crystal ball so the people see things too)
She also assists the magician act with her other abilities. (I'd love it if someone did a magician for her to assist!)
Appearance: Thick aburn hair and emerald green eyes, almost too green to be real. She has fair skin and a slender more delicate build. She's not very tall, 5' 1"
In her side show She dresses in the typical stereotypical gypsy clothes. Lots of layers of skirts, off the shoulder white blouse and a corset, lots of jewelry and heavy eye makeup and a decorative scarf draped over her head. She's most comfortable in this.
In the magician act it varies, the typical assistant outfits though. And she hates them all.
In every day when not on the show, she wears simple plain and comfortable clothes. She's not much to party really so doesn't have any fancy dresses.
And she ALWAYS wears gloves except when she's doing her side show gypsy stuff.
Personality: She's more quiet and reserved though she does like to have fun and could be easily talked into pranking someone. She's sometimes a little gullible and naive about certain things. At the same time though, she can hold her own pretty well, she's had to make her own way in life so has learned to do what she must.
Bio: She doesn't talk about her life much, all she'll say is that Romanians are very superstitious so she had to leave home very early and find her own way. (Romanians believe anyone with red hair and green eyes, is a witch and would have them killed)
Ili made her way to America by her own means and she snuck into the circus, was caught and about to be thrown out when Al noticed her. He recruited her after he saw what she could do.

[spoili]Frank is an old man. In fact, he's so old that the places he grew up in no longer exist and haven't been 'discovered' by archaeologists yet. Frank, cannot die. Not only does death defy him, he can see the most probably future.
Frank is old and cranky and really doesn't give a crap. For all that though, he's easy going and the one in charge of getting new workers and performers situated. You go to him with questions and complaints before you'd go to Alfred.
The law according to Frank:
Don't ask for nothin, take what ya get and don't complain.
Kinkers and working men mix just about as an empty stomach and moonshine. Just don't try it. (Kinkers: Performers)
Alfred ain't a bad man, but cross em, don't do yer job, and you'll be red lighted, make no mistake!
(red lighted - thrown of the train while it's in motion. Usually in the middle of the night over a trellis. It's easier to avoid questions if their dead )
