Kristin wore a long evening gown for the event, knowing very well that this was not a simple family party when it came to her boyfriends family. Dressed like she was going to the opera, Kristin stepped out of the apartment to see Jared standing in the hall, a present in her hand as she approached him.

"Alright, So I saw this really lovely broach and I thought your grandmother would like it. You did mention she liked jewelry. I hope she likes it. It cost a pretty penny." She said with a grin as she stood with him.

"You look... stunning." Jared said as his eyes were almost glued onto her.

He nodded, grateful that she had prepared a gift - and a gift his grandmother would probably like too. He escorted Kristin into the limo. Indeed, they had to arrive in fashion. And so, they sat in the back of the limo as Jared's nerves continued to tense up by each passing second. But Kristin seemed to successfully distract him. Since of course, she looked great.

"And so do you..." She said with a grin as she walked with him to the limo.

She hoped that the party went well this evening, mostly because she could see the tension all over Jared. He obviously wasn't fond of most of his family, but he cared enough for his grandmother to deal with them to be with her on her birthday. Holding onto her gift, she chatted lightly with him about the party and how long they intended to stay. After all, they both had work in the morning and could not afford to stay out too late drinking and celebrating.

And then they arrived.

The glitzy venue sparkled with decorations. Other fancily dressed people were present. Their faces covered with makeup and their hair styled to perfection. Jared looked around as he spotted familiar faces of cousins, aunts and uncles. For a split second, he wanted to run out of the room. Act like a coward and leave. However his feet stood grounded, fighting his own will. He had easily linked his arm with Kristins. People glanced for a couple of seconds and returned to their chattering. They were family. But they didn't feel like it at all.

Looking around at all the guests, Kristin was starting to understands Jared's dread. Even if they were family, one from the outside would have never guessed that to be the case. It was more like a business galla or something to that effect, but certainly no family gathering. It made her want to return to her own parents, they would hold her and welcome her with open arms...not glance at her and then go back to talking. That was the rudest part! Giving Jared's arm a small squeeze, she motioned for him to lead the way in, they had to do drop off their gifts after all.

And so that was exactly what they did. Jared left the gift on the pile of other wrapped presents. They seemed to stack up like a mountain. The traditional ensemble played a tune and grandmother appeared. Her dress was glittery and red, her white hair piled up in curls. Her eyes were vibrant and she looked almost like the queen of England with her entrance. She waved to everyone and descended the ballroom stairs. Jared wanted to run away but within seconds, he found himself face to face with her. Her grandmother looked at Kristin with a quizzical look, expecting the best out of her. Considering the fact that she had disproved many of his exes, he stayed quiet, letting his heart race at a tremendously quick pace.

Kristin set her gift next to his and stood with him as his grandmother appeared. She was a rather lovely woman it seemed, though when she approached them Kristin found herself getting a bit nervous. Her questioning stare made her wonder what that woman could possibly be thinking. She nodded her head kindly at her though, she wanted to be polite after all.

"It's a pleasure to meet you miss." She said softly as she stood with Jared.

"And you are..." Her voice commanded, her blue eyes scanning Kristin up and down.

Jared hesitantly answered, "My girlfriend grandma, this is Kristin."

He watched his grandmother circle around her like a vulture waiting for it's prey. At the end of things, she decided to pull Kristin aside to chat about female matters. Whatever that meant. It sounded more like an interview. Things like, what she did for a living, what was her background, were they serious. Jared regretted coming, not wanting Kristin to be stared at like an exotic bird. Or have a job interview. But he could do nothing, grandmother was the lady and queen of the family, whatever she said, went.

So while Kristin was chatting with grandmother. Jared himself made his way around his relatives. Pretending and smiling, while secretly annoyed at their attitudes. He simply didn't care about what they did and such. He was too concerned with Kristin and his grandmother to think about anything else at that point.

Kristin hadn't expected to be pulled away so suddenly, in fact, she hadn't expected to be pulled away at all. The next few moments were more like a job interview than simple chatting, but she politely answered all of her questions. Telling her that she was a model and where she came from and even about how she felt that she and Jared were. Hopefully her words were as much of a truth for him as they were for herself. She would glance at her boyfriend every once in awhile though, hoping that soon she'd be able to stand next to him again instead of being interrogated by his grandmother of all people.

Eventually his grandmother's gaze seem to soften upon Kristin. Her eyes sparkled and she brought Kristin's hand back into Jareds. Whispering something into his ear, it went a little like this - "Keep her close ... she's quite exceptional ... hurry up and give me ..." Jared had turned slightly pink at his grandmothers brashness but he nodded, attempting to please her. He kept Kristin close beside him for the rest of the night. He didn't feel so lonely anymore. And so he effortlessly found himself in conversations, confident and cool.

After all the questions, it seemed that his grandmother finally calmed and even looked upon her with kindness. Returning to Jared's side and holding onto his hand, she smiled a bit as she listened to his grandmother speak, even giggling as Jared's cheeks lit up as she finished up in a whisper. She had a small idea of what the woman had demanded of him. Staying with him the rest of the evening, Kristin was happily chatting with his family as they stood together, arm in arm as the evening went on.

Jared was glad.

Glad that most people accepted her.

But especially glad that his grandmother accepted Kristin.

And so for the rest of the night, Jared enjoyed himself to the best of his abilities. Sure some of his relatives were still conniving deceits but a few were rather friendly and genuine. By the time the clock struck eleven, Jared was exhausted. He decided to wish his grandmother one last happy birthday before departing from the scene. By the time that he and Kristin had gotten into the car, he found himself exhausted and asleep on her shoulder. With all the crazy energy and the constant talking, his energy was sapped away...

"Don't sleep yet...You still need to get into your apartment." She said to him as she pet his head.

The evening had gone well otherwise, his family being rather kind, though still the same rich family they were. No one could change in a second. Still, she was just happy that his grandmother liked her, it meant she had done something right at least. The evening was tiring though, she was just as tired as Jared. Of course, she knew that she still had to get up to her apartment after she got out of the limo. Smiling down at him, she leaned in and kissed his lips softly.

"Come on, you aren't going to sleep without a good night kiss are you?"

"nggg..." He said as he forced himself to wake up a little. He kissed her on the lips softly and waved goodbye.

By the time the car had dropped him off at his apartment, he felt like he was sleep walking. Getting inside, he locked the room and was ready to just kick back onto the bed without a car. He was tired but happy. His dreams were vivid of laughing faces and smiles.

The next morning, he awoke to the rays of the sun. He quickly showered and made a quick breakfast of toast and coffee. He was ready to get to work. Another day, another adventure. He felt like he was ready for anything, almost anything.

With a good bye kiss given to Jared, Kristin returned to her own apartment to sleep and prepare for the next day.

Morning came quickly and she dressed and ate breakfast before she headed out the door and to the office. She had some fittings for a runway show down town in a couple weeks as well as some simply photo shoots in the open floor areas of the building. Though, before she did any of that, she planned on stopping at her boyfriends office and wishing him a good morning.

By the time it was afternoon, Jared was feeling a little light headed and sick.

His stomach churned and he felt like passing out. The color of skin had paled and his secretary could just tell by once glance that he needed to go home. She ordered him off from his job and to get some rest. Jared didn't bother arguing since his insides felt like burning hell. Already on the car ride home, he had fallen asleep. Opening the door, he went inside and laid his body onto the sofa. Using his phone, he called the pizza delivery service. He flipped the channels on the tv before tuning out to the buzz of the background noise. So tired and exhausted. He wasn't surprised, he was prone to being sick after all. He wished he had called Kristin but he didn't want to worry her...

Kristin was a bit worried when she heard that Jared went home due to illness. He had seemed perfectly fine the night before, how could he have changed so suddenly? She didn't bother him though, he was probably resting up and trying to feel better. She went about her work, going to her fitting and shoots with the intention of heading to his apartment later to check up on him and make sure he was getting better and eating right. Maybe she'd bring him some soup as well, that way he wouldn't just eat a bunch of junk food while he was sick in bed. After all, what you ate determined how you felt.

For the next few hours, Jared was sleeping, eating and watching tv.

The pizza was more like a snack rather than an actual lunch, but he had little appetite to eat much. He watched reruns of movies like Harry potter and X-men first class. For the rest of the time, he was half asleep. All in all, he looked like a mess. Seriously, his parents would be criticizing him for his manners and lack of proper rest.

By the time it was six, the doorbell rung and Jared opened the door as Kristin popped in. He was still feverish and found himself back on the sofa. He was barely awake as he murmured, "hey thanks for coming ..." Although he didn't say the words out loud, he wanted her to stay and not leave. Sure it was selfish of him but he liked being taken care of by Kristin. He just hoped she wouldn't notice the mess he made...

Kristin smiled at Jared as he opened the door. He looked a mess, as did his apartment. Still, she didn't comment on it, he didn't seem coherent enough to understand it much anyway. So, cleaning up his mess a bit as he went back to the couch, she took the pizza box and carried it into the kitchen, only pausing to give him a kiss on top of his head.

"No problem, lay down and I'll make you a nice hot pot of soup to it. It's a bit better for you than pizza." She teased slightly before she left him be, getting into the kitchen and cleaning up a bit as she started to heat some soup up for him.

He fell asleep for another half an hour, awakening to the smell of soup.

Getting up he finally ate something. He felt guilty for having her clean up after him and all. Finally cleaning up his stuff, he went and showered. It felt refreshing and his body temperature lightened up. He kissed Kristin good night, thanking her for today and retreated to bed. He was sleepy and tired, but his eyes refused to give into the darkness.
