A Doll's Destiny

"That happens sometimes," Clara replied. She could remember doing that a lot when she was younger and occasionally she still did it. Sometimes it was hard to tell how hard you were rolling the ball. Clara threw a couple more balls and they landed in different holes for different points. There were only a certain amount of balls you got per game, and she was getting close to running out.

Aiden tossed a few more balls, them landing in almost every point hole, except the hundred-point hole.

Clara also threw a few more balls, a couple of them making their way into the forty and fifty holes. Though there were still a few times when she didn't do as well and got a lower point. Clara wasn't one to attempt to try for a hundred though because she really didn't want to miss and get no points at all. Eventually, she ran out of balls and focused her attention on Aiden.

Aiden threw his four remaining balls. The first went into the thirty point, the second in the same hole, the third in the fifty point, and the final ball missed the hundred hole by a hair. Out of balls, he feigned disappointment. "Aw, I was so close to that one!"

Clara clapped when she saw how well he was doing, especially for his first time. "Yeah, I know how you feel. But also be proud of yourself with how close it was and it's your first time playing too," she commented. "If you want, you could play another game and try for the hundred a few times, try to get a feel of it."

"Maybe later, love. What else you wanna do?" Aiden asked. He had to give himself credit on how well he did for a first attempt.

"Alright, that's fine," Clara replied. She looked around in the arcade, seeing what else they might have there. There were plenty of other games, though some of them were a lot harder to do or just didn't fit with Clara's style. Though, she wasn't sure if he might want to play them. She was also trying to keep in mind his size though. She felt like some games might not be possible with his size. "How about wack-a-mole? Have you ever heard of that?"

"Yeah, but I never played it," Aiden said. "It sounds like you wack fake moles."

"Basically, that's what you do. There are fake moles that pop out of holes and you take the hammer and try to hit as many as you can," Clara replied. "The moles come out of different holes at different times. It starts out kind of slow so it's easier but as the game goes on, it gets faster and more moles come out of different holes more often."

"Oh, I see," Aiden began heading towards the game, a pep in his step. He could almost swear he felt his stuffing crinkle with excitement.

Clara guessed that meant he wanted to try the game out. She followed him to the wack-a-mole and pulled out another coin so he could play it. She put the coin in and handed him the mallet so he could hit the moles with it. "So, hit the moles as they come out of the holes." She stepped out of the way.

Grinning, Aiden hit the first mole that popped up to his left. Two more popped up, which met the same fate.

She watched as he started to play the game. She knew he'd be fine with the first couple of moles, but she wondered how he would fair as the game started to get faster. It was usually pretty hard to get them as they were going fast. She wasn't even sure if you could even hit all the moles that were popping out as the game grew more difficult, but it wasn't like you had to hit all of them to win. It was really about the score level.

This time, three moles came up. Aiden practically did a semi-circle as he hit them. Three more followed, again getting wacked.

He seemed to be doing pretty well as the game continued. Though it was clear that, as the game was supposed to, it was starting to add more moles and they were starting to pop up more often in different places. "You can do it, Aiden," she replied to give him encouragement as she wanted her new friend to do well and be happy with his end result.

Now moles were coming up in threes, causing Aiden to almost spin and dance as he struck them with the mallet. He laughed. "Jeez, things are getting nuts."

"Yeah, that's how the game goes. It's pretty much guaranteed that it gets really crazy and that you'll end up missing some. But the point is to just keep trying your best and hit as many as you can. Remember, it's intended purpose is for fun so just have some fun with it. You don't have to do it perfectly," Clara replied. She just wanted him to enjoy playing the game.

"Oh, I'm definitely having fun, sunshine," Aiden managed to hit four of five moles, then three more, collowed by another three. It was beginning to appear as if he was dancing about.

"That's good," Clara replied. As long as he was enjoying himself, that was all that matter. She continued to watch him play the game. He seemed to be doing pretty well with his movements. Perhaps it was easier for a doll to move around than it was a person, but she wouldn't really know. She continued to watch him as the game went on.

Aiden just barely managed to hit five moles, followed by another four. "Does...does this thing ever end?"
