Name:
Anya Marina "Alice" Volkov
Age:
Nineteen
Physical Description:
A thin woman with a slender build and mysterious aura, Alice stands at five feet six, privileged with a lithe yet muscular body that was a result of her training in part of Darkness's troop. Her skin is a pale porcelain white, smooth and untouched- except for a jagged scar that rests between her shoulder blades, which she prefers not to discuss.
Alice's eyes are cat shaped; a startling lilac that seems to pierce through her target, and her hair is a white lavender combination that is usually tied into two loose twin tails. Alice's preferred attire includes loose fitting (but stylish) clothing of any type underneath her rabbit eared jacket.
Personality:
A sharp girl whose goal in life is to make it to the top of the food chain. Alice is a woman who acts and thinks only for herself; anything beneficial to her life is immediately made a goal for her to complete. Selfish and ambitious, Alice finds herself scheming to get her way every single time. Her methods are cunning, and her words are icy cold. Similarly, Alice doesn't trust anyone but herself to get the job done- not even Darkness himself. She has come up with a rule that she must rely on only her wits to get to her goal, no matter the amount of people she has to step on to get there.
However, this proves to be a deficiency for Alice in certain cases. The woman is insensitive and rather dense when it comes to sensing the emotions of others. Sure, she can manipulate people pretty damn well, but ask her to think about how others would feel, and she'd reply with a, "What do you mean?"
Likewise, though Alice only thinks for herself, she's not a spoiled brat. She knows when someone's better than she is, and knows when she's been beaten. However, no one besides Darkness has won her respect so far.
History:
Anya Marina Volkov was born in a small unknown town located within Russia, as a wailing baby of seven ounces. This is where you stop for a moment and smile at the fact a spanking new baby child was born into the world.
Okay, time to stop smiling. Anya's family was poor, and lived in a rusty old apartment: 2A. There was one room, a small and half functioning kitchenette, and one bathroom. The shower worked, but was incredibly small and a bit unattractive.
Anya's family was a family of four: Anya, her mother, Greta, her father, Mark, and her older brother, Sasha. Mark worked many jobs day to night, whilst Greta sold the trinkets she'd crafted from wood at the market, and Sasha had a part time job. Anya was far too young to work, and the other jobs didn't pay much, but they got by; they were happy. However, their happiness was shattered when her father and brother were enlisted in the army. At the time, Sasha was eighteen and Anya six. The day before Sasha left for war, he knelt down next to Anya, and handed her a small wooden bird that he'd crafted with Greta's help.
In the seven years the two were gone, Anya and Greta struggled with the issue of food. At first, they'd been able to cope with the money the government gave them, but the money soon wore out, and with Greta being the only money maker in the family now, the two nearly starved to death. That was when Anya first discovered her gift. It happened one day when she was searching on the streets, begging for food or money. As she turned her head, her eyes spotted a loaf of bread that a man had just put down. He'd turned away, and Anya was desperate; her mother hadn't eaten for four days. The girl snuck up behind the man and grabbed the bread. She turns to make her escape, but was much too late. The man had seen her, and was about to reach out and grab her when Anya fell through a hole.
Not just any hole, actually. This hole appeared right beneath Anya, who had made it without realizing. She found herself in a space where colors shone: violet, rose, azure, and beige floated around her. The colors of the cosmos were overwhelming. For a moment, there was panic, and Anya felt tears welling up in her eyes.
"I just want to go home."
And there it was. Another hole, only this time leading to her small apartment. Tentatively, the girl slipped through the hole, bread in her hands. A smile on her face, Anya ran up to her mother, who sat there motionless. She was about to announce the great news when she clasped her mother's hand:
It was cold.
Her eyes widened and her lips threatened to wail; she'd lost the last piece of family she had. Her sobs echoed through the small room all night.
Her father returned home a month later. He was blind, paralyzed in his right arm, and alone. By this time, Anya had mastered what she liked calling "Rabbit Holes", and was able to live independently. Her father, however, was diagnosed paranoia and PTSD, along with rather aggressive tendencies. The war had changed him, and Anya couldn't deal with his screaming and nightmares. So, a year after her father returned, she ran away. She was a coward, that one was.
Anya stepped into her little rabbit hole once more- this time, wishing to go to a place totally different from the world she existed in. With much difficulty, she managed to pry open a hole to The Gaze (Opening rabbit holes into other worlds is rather difficult, you know.). Before she jumped in, the fourteen year old girl swore to herself that she would be the best in this world; she would rise to the top and never have to endure the same tragedy again.
She wandered around The Gaze for half a year, attempting to learn more about the mysterious world. It was then that she met Darkness, a man who neared a striking resemblance of her late brother, Sasha. In the beginning, she mistook him for Sasha, and approached him, only to have Darkness threaten to kill her. Her response?
"You can't kill me if you can't catch me!"
But he did catch her, even breaking her precious wooden bird in the process. Stupid girl, you should know by now that Darkness wields a power much greater than your own. However, he didn't kill her. Instead, Darkness took an interest in the girl's power, and offered her the opportunity to be his 'apprentice' of sorts.
"Jumping through rabbit holes like that, it's as if you're Alice. How amusing."
Anya accepted, taking the name Alice on, and finally able to throw away her past. Of course in deals with Darkness, there's always got to be a catch, and Alice's was this: Darkness implanted an enigma within the girl containing a curse, one that would connect her to Darkness and enable him to draw power, emotion, and thoughts out from her.
Over the next five years, Alice received training in weaponry and martial arts, collecting various weapons from around The Gaze and the world.
Magical Abilities:
[ H A M M E R S P A C E ] : Hammerspace is the ability in which one is able to summon up pockets of dimensional space, and is also able to travel between them. Hammerspace users are sometimes able to open rifts to other universes. Alice uses Hammerspace as a [ S T O R A G E ] unit for her weapons, or as a travel unit which she nicknamed, [ R A B B I T H O L E S ]. With the exception of rifts, Hammerspace cannot be used to travel more than in a one mile radius. To travel, you have to picture your destination very clearly. It is easier if you have complete knowledge of the area around you. Major exhaustion occurs if you travel more than one mile or with more than one person. Alice is often plagued by migraines and is very lethargic at the most opportune moments due to the curse implanted within her.
Battle Response:
She smirked, confident of her abilities, "Oh hon, you have no idea what you've gotten yourself into." With that, Alice launched herself into a dash, rushing towards the male. He lurched right, causing Alice to stumble, but nevertheless, the female followed. Her opponent trusted a dagger in her direction, and Alice dodged; She'd gotten a slit on her cheek in the process, but hey, better than in the heart.
The wind was a surprise, though. She ha imagined him as more of a fire user. However, the thought flew from her mind as he sent several blasts of air towards her. The lady let out a chuckle, "Bottom's up!", and sank into the ground, reappearing several feet up into the air from a hole that seemingly appeared out of nowhere, bow and arrow in hand. Whirling around, Alice let the arrow loose, then let herself drop down into yet another hole, reappearing behind the male, "Peekaboo!"
