The US Presidential Race

I get what you're saying, Cammy. He can come across as arrogant and condescending at times. Not as bad as some of the others in the race (loltrump), but still. :P

The only people I could imagine voting for Trump are the same kinds of people that don't actually question who they're voting for and just vote by the party line. The man makes Bush Junior look competent and Bush Senior look honest. He's gone bankrupt multiple times, so he can't even claim that he'd bring economic stability to America. His image on the international stage is one of mockery and derision--nobody would take the US seriously for his candidacy. His foreign policy is excessively warmongering to a degree of being honestly concerning--it wouldn't surprise me if his response to terrorism should conventional military means fail is "nuke them all". Naturally, he'd get shut down by congress, but nonetheless, the president is supposed to be a voice of reason and compromise to keep congress moving forward.

I sincerely doubt he will not win the presidential race even if he wins the GOP candidacy--even if he has to go against Bernie Sanders or Hillary Clinton. In fact, I want him to win the GOP candidacy just so he can drive his party straight into a brick wall. I want to see Bernie Sanders beat him as a socialist just so the GOP will be forced to look in on itself.

Seriously, who wouldn't like to see the GOP lose to a socialist with much less campaign funding in the United States of America? That shit would be hilarious.
...do we live in the same country, because politically and values wise, we are very distinct from the US, no matter how badly Harper wants to try to convince you otherwise.
Agreed. The only thing that concerns me about American politics is how they'll treat their economic affairs and foreign affairs. A lot of our exports go to the US--if the US gets a pants on head retard who drives the economy into the ground harder than Hulk Hogan's career after Gawker got at him, we suffer too. Because for some absurd reason, people keep thinking free trade is a good idea. :|

Anyone who takes Trump seriously is not my friend and is getting disowned. >:[
I don't know, he's made it THIS far. If someone like that can make it this far, something ain't right, and something we all need to try and fix DX Then again though, I'm not entirely against him making it this far either. That means that there is, in fact room for other people, even if they aren't the brightest.

(In other words, I think he does need to be taken serious. A serious threat granted, but someone not to just ignore because he appears stupid. Not to mention the sheer ignorance of Republicans. That's right, I said it. Want to know why? I'll ask republicans "Why" and they'll be like "Oh, uhhh" And give some generic answer. When I tell them something bad the president their rooting for did, they'll be like "oh... I didn't know that."

Too many people look for professionalism in a president. Problem is though, professionals tend to have complexes and lie allot.

If there's a goofy guy who I agree with, I'll choose him WAAAYYY over the generic suit he's versing.

A president I want too see is someone who acts like trump, BUT has super good ideas and can make things better. That will be interesting to see how america thinks. Do we want the best for our country, or do we want to appear the best.

That's part of the issue though.
We got Harper at the moment who would love to see us become America up North with the shiny jets.

And even without Harper, we're still neighbours.
A lot of stuff trickles over, even if of far less severity.
Enough that if you lacked connections in Canada, and/or weren't too concerned about ties in the US that you'd be better off moving to Europe if the goal was "Avoid USA".

If you're already immigrating for that purpose it'd be a waste to pick the one country that's probably the most influenced (without stuff like illegal immigration being a concern).
Just how far is it in Canada? I can understand copying us as we do have allot of good ideas (Someone once told me that Canada became the America that Americans wants it to be) But would Canada truly go as far as adopting stupid ideas? Sure things trickles over, but even those must have a road block unless its something people actually like.

I'm ashamed to say that quite a bit of my family is rooting for Donald Trump. See, I'm mixed, and you can basically tell where my family divided based on the shade of our skin. We have those raised in mostly Missouri and Texas who migrated from Western Europe centuries ago, and those who came from Puerto Rico in the 1950s-60s. You can probably guess who supports Trump. Bad as that generalization seems, it's pretty accurate in my family. My loved ones who spent years in Missouri and Texas truly think illegal immigrants are the root of our economic failures. They see the process to become a citizen fair, despite the fact they probably don't know half as much as what's demanded to become naturalized. I don't want to start something, but these are also the members of my family who can't empathize if there are clear superficial differences. Frankly, they're racists who struggle with believing President Obama or Senator Rubio know their plight largely due to their colour. Being a young coloured liberal, I find the whole bit shameful.

My politics are not theirs though. I actually hoped Senator Elizabeth Warren would run in 2016, and when she declared she would not run against Hillary Clinton for the same ticket, my normal excitement in the elections plummeted. In my eyes Obama has effectively set a foundation for the Democrats of the future. Hillary Clinton, Joe Biden, and Obama are relatively kind, compromising, and ultimately moderate, meaning we see typically Liberal politics at the core of their work, but they'd sooner compromise on a kind-of-win rather than accept a total loss. They play a long game and seem to think there'll be a chance to improve things later. I respect that. I also want more. Listening to Warren showed me a politician who spoke rather frankly as well as with learned articulation. Her work to create education reform impressed me too, showing her entrenched into an area most Presidents do no more than speak about. I find myself wanting a more extreme politician, though I understand that's unlikely in this sort of election. Bernie Sanders is indeed quite different, and quite a bit more socialist than many, but even so, I found his recent talk in Portland about issues of race lacking. It planted this seed in my mind. Every politician is marketing themselves, selling themselves to their markets with the right words and right settings, and hearing Sanders without a clear response on such a massive problem in modern America made me wonder just how much is marketing to milennials and how much is reality.

This sounds like a trashy political opinion, but I honestly just wish we do not see any of those running for the Republican candidacy in office. These guys come off like a bunch of fools, and not because of political affiliation either. I wouldn't be happy with Clinton or Biden, but I'd be so much happier than if this country was led by a Trump or Jeb.

I personally wouldn't be happy with either of them being president.

Also, why do you think that you will be happy with Trump or Jeb?

Although I live in New York, I've been spotting a large number of independents (including the majority of my family) going for Trump. Of course, most of the state still supports Clinton. I respect Bernie Sanders, but he's just 2016's Ron Paul. Sad but true.

Not as far as some people here might be getting the impression of me saying.
We don't exactly have people marching around declaring "One Nation under God! I love my Guns! Immigrants are Evil!" mentality.

Though we do (at least my province Ontario, which is where most Americans will end up going if moving to Canada) still have Catholic favouritism.
As in, even though legally preference of religion in schools is illegal, Catholic schools are still everywhere. Ontario just pays a fine every year to keep it around.

We are currently dealing with a Prime Minister who decided new Jet's were somehow more important than the education of our people.
Then there's the Trade concerns Brovo brought up.

Now, I'm not saying Canada is USA 0.5 or anything.
But we are more influenced by them than most other countries would be.
So if one's goal is "I'm leaving American crap!", why would they choose the country that's the most influenced out of almost all their options?
It's almost as if (assuming family connections weren't a concern) the person went "I want to leave! Eh... But I don't want to go far, so I'll go drive *just* across the border".
If you're going through the effort of immigration for such a reason, just go all the way and go somewhere not so reliant as the place you're trying to avoid.

I would imagine they still like America, but there's just a few things they don't quite like. So what's the next best thing? As far as most people seem to be concerned, Canada.

You guys should all vote Trump.

For the banter.
Just because you worship Satan doesn't mean I want him for president. :ferret:

If only I could run for president as Gerald Ford's ghost.
I wish all the candidates the best of luck.

I'm Indie and utterly despise both sides of the spectrum, so I'm not exactly focusing on any of the candidates because they all seem absolutely awful in their own ways. Politician isn't something you should look forward to being as a kid, to be brutally honest. Even the ones who seem innocent and perfect in every way rub me the wrong way. I've just lost faith in America's ability to put forth worthwhile candidates, and the Government's ability to properly run this country - I mean, seriously, our leadership is made up of old men on the brink of death. That doesn't look very hopeful to newer generations.

Besides that, I'm one of the people who thinks immigration needs to slow just a bit, so any close-to-decent candidate isn't going to work for me. Not to mention, we need better education to make sure our born-citizens know as much as our newbies. That makes it fair in my eyes. I will never be able to comprehend people who want completely open borders.

My family is made of Irish & Southern Italian immigrants who came through fine, learned english just fine, and didn't all look particularly white (as southern italians can be). If it can be done by my nutty family, then it can be done by others. I just think we shouldn't be super open about accepting foreign folks until we solve this poverty/welfare problem with our natural born citizens. Seriously, we're messed up. More people isn't going to fix that.
