Much as I fucking hate my country's electoral system (First Past The Post is antiquated as fuck and we need to update it), I can always count on the USA to make me feel a bit better about it.

Seriously, yours is the most undemocratic democracy I can think of, off the top of my head.

Democracy is a funny thing. Except in North Korea, which is so democratic, that you only have one person on the ballot! It takes the process out of thinking! This post was sponsored by the Korean Friendship Organization.

Most folk I know of would interpret that as a good thing. Including myself.
This issue with this is that the president doesn't have total legislative power. Unless the Democrats under Bernie pull a total victory in congress and gain a complete majority, the Republicans can and will shut down any bill attempting to pass through the house. I mean, they played chicken with the economy and shut the federal government down just to get their way against Obama, and Obama is known for compromises. A president less prone to compromise set against a mixed congress is going to be fighting with it. Constantly. He will also get shut down, constantly. He might get a few bills passed, but I wouldn't put it past the Republican Party to let the country burn to stop a socialist from getting his way. Also, since democrat and republican candidates can vote independently on issues, that better be a strong democrat majority--which I just don't see happening.

If he was the Prime Minister of Canada, he'd have more executive power and could actually shove bills down the throat of the House of Commons. This is less democratic, but more efficient. A bit ironic, that.

As for fixing the American democratic system to be representative of the people, stop campaign money from flooding politician's pockets and abandon FPTP for AV so you can remove tactical voting. Until then, enjoy watching congress get filled with bought men who will break the president's spine if he doesn't fall in line.

That being said, maybe Bernie can get some anti-corruption laws shoved through. At the very least, he can put his foot down and hopefully stop the Republicans from gutting taxes anymore--because that is fucking up your debt immensely.

I will take a moment to explain some good ole Republican mentality. In our minds, letting a socialist be president would be the same as letting the nation burn. As much as I like Bernie Sanders as a person, he is strikingly similar to Ron Paul, somewhat. Although they have differing political beliefs, we are seeing an outlier politician who is known for honesty, but they'll be rejected because their party's base wants a 'safe' candidate.
