The US Presidential Race

Can someone please clue me in on this "Deez Nuts" joke?
He's a joke independent candidate created by a 15-year-old boy from Iowa, created as a sort of protest against our two party system and out of his dislike of the leading candidates at the time. Due to some internet fame and a bunch of disgruntled voters who'll jump on pretty much anything to express their distaste of the status quo, Deez Nuts raked in 8-9% in polls in a few states that asked who people would vote for at this moment. That got some attention from national news outlets and now Deez Nuts 2016 is basically a running joke.

Ben Carson - 2016! I would have voted for him in 2012 too, but that could not happen :(

Bernie Sanders isn't a scary, evil socialist. He leans more towards Democratic socialism than any other form of socialism. But, he has my vote as he seems to be the only one with a brain.

Trump's immigration plan is so fucking stupid. Why are you demanding that Mexico pay for the wall? Plus, he is childish as fuck. Calling someone a bimbo. Real childish shit here.

I am hoping to God that he isn't our next President; otherwise, America is fucked.
You wouldn't make comments like this unless you were on the rag (and illegal).

Just out of curiosity, do you want to vote for him in spite of his lack of experience holding elected office, or perhaps because he's not a traditional politician? I personally find it very odd that people support candidates for the highest elected office in the country when they haven't ever been elected or appointed to a lower one before, so I'm wondering what your thoughts are on the matter.

Well, to be fair, the British view their own elections pretty much the same way. But you really have to come to terms with the fact that a lot of the rest of the world views a lot of the things America does as a form of entertainment.
Coming to terms with it doesn't make it any better. Coming to terms with everyone in your class thinking you're stupid is no better. Don't get me wrong, I don't want to turn into a humorless guy in this thread, I just know there's a lot of stuff that needs to be changed for the better in the US.

That's what the /s(arcasm) was for. Taking the scope back to show the rest of the world, a lot of Americans will see that not only is Bernie Sanders considered actually pretty moderate alongside politicians from other countries, but that Socialist isn't treated like a slur as it is here. And I do agree, Trump is stomping around like a kid on the playground. He doesn't know half the shit people think he does and will drive the country into the ground. Ironically, just like a lot of his business ventures...

His lack of experience as a politician does not bother me in the least - the world could use fewer career politicians. Unlike some politicians, I believe Dr. Carson is smart enough to know what he doesn't know, and humble enough to find people who can advise him with common sense. I hadn't considered it odd to support a candidate who is not a career politician - I suppose I find it odd that anyone would be convinced, that being good at campaigning and image-making is so very important? ;) hahaha

And in short, I like Dr. Carson's stand on various current issues, domestic and foreign. So there is that!

I admit, I haven't paid too much attention thus far.

When we get closer to primary elections season, I'll look at the candidates that are left standing, and see what candidate(s) are more closely aligned with my own views.

Running joke or not, I have to admit that hearing the national media talk about Deez Nuts amuses me in the most delightful way.

I'm leaning towards Sanders. Yeah he's oldish and may not last a full term with the stress of "running" a nation but I like that he respects America.

I feel like Trump has forgotten what America was supposed to be. The land of the free, a place where dreams cone true, the melting pot of the world. His run is basically bringing out such ugliness in America where people are just hating everyone who looks different from them and to be honest...other then "building a great big wall with Mexico'state money," I have no idea what his plans for America is. I really don't like how he talks to women, nor about Hispanics/Mexicans/Asians. Waiting patiently for him to get on African Americans because it is going to come. While it's cool to speak your thoughts, I think there's a way to go about it and he's just so vulgar, so disrespectful. He really makes me feel ashamed to be an American.

Plus, Sarah Palin supports him so...yeah.

Oh, I didn't know what it meant. Sorry!

That'll be the day I go up North to live in the mountains of Canada to have Dervish bring me news of the world every other month until Trump leaves the White House.
As a Canadian I'd advise against this, Canada likes to try to imitate America a decent amount.
Not enough that we're at American levels of awful, but bad enough that someone looking to escape American Shit should probably be looking at Europe instead.

...do we live in the same country, because politically and values wise, we are very distinct from the US, no matter how badly Harper wants to try to convince you otherwise.

I haven't looked much at Carson, mostly because I flat out don't like him. Yes, he's amazing at what he does and he's made a lot of breakthroughs, but I think sometimes he's gotten drunk off of his own celebrity status. As a person, he's pretty much an asshole.

That's part of the issue though.
We got Harper at the moment who would love to see us become America up North with the shiny jets.

And even without Harper, we're still neighbours.
A lot of stuff trickles over, even if of far less severity.
Enough that if you lacked connections in Canada, and/or weren't too concerned about ties in the US that you'd be better off moving to Europe if the goal was "Avoid USA".

If you're already immigrating for that purpose it'd be a waste to pick the one country that's probably the most influenced (without stuff like illegal immigration being a concern).

Not American, but rooting for Bernie. He is probably one of the first politicians I've ageed with on most subjects, and the fact that he takes after Olof Palme amuses the hell out of me. He is very grounded and serious with his goals, and he stands up for minorities and women, among other things. Were he to win the election, it would be interesting to see how America takes to becoming a little more like the Scandinavian countries.

And having a Jewish president would be interesting.

Anyone who takes Trump seriously is not my friend and is getting disowned. >:[

I think Carson or Fiorina have better chances of being nominated than Trump.
Rubio is, at this point, actively trying to be Vice-President. Bush is all but forgotten, and so is Walker. Personally, I admire both Pataki and Paul, but their campaigns are being devoured by the Donald's carnivorous hair.

I'm not certain where Dr. Carson, a retired John Hopkins pediatric neurosurgeon who came from a poor single-parent household in Detroit, started the Carson Scholars Fund (long before he had any presidential aspirations), received the Spingarn Award (NAACP) as well as the Presidential Medal of Freedom for innumerable other accomplishments, has come off as an 'asshole?' But of course everyone's entitled to think whatever they like - I wouldn't change that for anything. And one other thing I won't do, is argue emotions. <3

Like I said, I'm not saying that he hasn't done wonderful things and had an amazing life. I've read 'Gifted Hands'. I'm just saying that I've heard some of the interviews he's done in recent years and they haven't ingratiated him to me. It is possible for someone to do amazing things and still be a jerk.
