Ring ring ring ring.

Quite a long time ago, before Nowhere. Leila heard the fire alarm in the residence complex exactly once. It was one or two seconds of unbearably cacophonous shrieking seemingly designed solely to drive people out of wherever they were and whatever they were doing at the moment and into panic; interlaced with moments of silence between that shrieking so that one wouldn't be prepared by the time the next agitating ring came along. Leila was in the library at the moment, and she remembered faints remnants of that periodic scream of the alarm being stuck in the background of her hearing for days to come.
The sound of the fire alarm she was hearing now was considerably worse.

She rubbed her wrists against each other. The metal surfaces produced an unpleasant scratching sound and the chain that connected the two halves of the shackles produced a few clinks as it collided with itself.
Another thing that made this instance considerably worse is that it was impossible for her to even cover her ears.

"What's your problem?"

Leila, for one thing, was equal parts amazed and agitated that everyone else seemed to be functioning fine despite the drowning noise in the background. She managed, though, to usher still enough concentration to decide that Eloi didn't mean to hear her complain about the alarm when he asked that.
She lifted her hands - the fact that the two of them were locked together, and the extra weight of the shackles, made it harder to do so - and rubbed on one of her ears.

"...And you seem the reasonable sort. Don't let me down, alright?"

It did not take the invoking of a sense of humour for Leila to start wondering whether telling someone they were the 'reasonable sort' was supposed to be some kind of insult.

All of her glances at the boy with the hound failed to occur at moments where their eyes would meet. It bothered her a little, actually - mostly because even under the interference of the fire alarm and obnoxious hound sounds, what's left of her mind was still allowed to wander around for moments. What made it upsetting was the presence of the small uniformed rabbits scurrying about in any scene she saw, their lack of eyes or any other facial features to be met with, and how that strongly influenced where all the wandering thoughts were directed towards.

One of her fellow humans kicking one of them made it considerably worse.

"Ace!"

Leila shouted in a tone not unlike that of a mother trying to stop her child from reaching for a biscuit in the jar. She was going to say something else as well, something about how - as reluctant as she was to admit that she had come to believe entirely by the time - the bunny guards were essentially helpless human souls trapped in the pathetic furry bodies.

One of the bunnies near Leila, however, nudged her in the leg angrily for the noise she was making, as a reminder that whatever inside that little brain that used to be a human mind probably wasn't anymore.

Ring ring ring ring.

Second Floor: By The Stairway

"Gargar, those guards are everywhere, what do we do now?"

Bunny guards ran right and left toting along buckets that were twice their size. They stumbled up the steps as the residents of the castle spilled down the stairs and made a run for the nearest exit. The nobodies were panicking so much that they missed Gary and Luke entirely. Both hooded figures were crouched down behind a sofa and were whispering fiercely to one another.

"Don't look at me, diaper! Rainbow puke here is the reason we're in this fudging mess! I mean, really, rainbow puke? Why you gotsa be this way?"

Rainbowzilla didn't like being yelled at, and he flailed his tiny arms around before disappearing into Luke's cloak.

"You hurt his feelings, hobbit."

"He got us into this mess, Diaper!"

Their voices rose in pitch, and soon, both hooded figures were standing at full height and yelling at each other.

"Eugh, call me a hobbit again and I'm going to hit you with my pole--ayyyy, is that Sacchin?"

Luke approached the second floor railing and peered over it. "Oh, hey, it is. And everyone's there too." By now, Rainbowzilla had scampered onto his owner's head and his tiny claws left red, angry scratches on Luke's cheeks. "I...I think they've been captured." The shackles and all the guards made it obvious enough, but the two were clearly not right in the head.

"It's time to be a man, diaper! This is a war and war is full of guts and pain, and there's no time to be a weakling crumb." Gary tapped the end of her pole into the palm of her hand and started marching towards the stairway. She was yelling all sorts of weird curses—the perfect distraction.

Luke on the other hand, well, he plucked two flower vases off of a table. He dropped the first one over the railing and when the smashing sound caused the guards to look up, he chucked his second flower pot at Arno, catching the trainee on the head.

"My face! MY FACE!" Arno fell onto his backside and cupped a hand over his bleeding forehead. Blood trickled down his fingers and onto the carpeted floor as a sharp, hot pain flared across his face. He tried to stagger to his feet and stem the bleeding, but the whap to the head left him weak-kneed and woozy. "I'm going to beat you up for this. Stop hiding!" The boy yelled as Aimee pressed a piece of cloth over his wounds.

A bunny guard was kicked across the room and Gary gave Ace an excited looking smile. "Who said anything about hiding? We're here to rescue you—oi, did Diaper just abandon me?" Another vase was thrown to the first floor. "What are you waiting for? A taxi? RUN!"

Gary didn't have to repeat herself. The moment Harper saw Luke waving from the second floor, he dashed ahead of Sacha and rammed into Eloi with his shoulder. He liked Eloi the most out of the guards, but it was also Eloi's niceness that provided him with an opening. "Sacha, take Toby." The moment Eloi hit the ground, Bento let out a rage-filled howl.

"OH BOY!" Riley grabbed both Jasper and Numair by the arms then dove behind a couch. A few seconds later, there was a loud sneeze. And before anyone could stop Bento, the curtains were set alight. "That was close!"

"Too close," Numair helped both girls to his feet and looked worriedly over his shoulder. "It's like we're fighting Bahamut or something." Bento let out another sneeze and the surfer hightailed it out of there with Jasper and Riley in tow.

"The room is on fire!"

"Get more guards!"

"CELERY STICKS. THOSE ARE THE QUEEN'S FAVORITE CURTAINS."

Due to all the commotion, a certain commander was caught of guard. With a sweep of her leg, Victoria sent Rook crashing to the floor. The man looked stunned, and in response, he received a smug grin from Vicky. "Time to run, kids." She stated before ducking under a trainee's punch and knocking him to the ground with her shoulder.

"You heard the woman!" Riley was now at the base of the stairs with both Numair and Jasper. "Let's get out of here."

Gary waved enthusiastically at the angry bunny guards as she led them up the steps. Nowwww, they just had to get away and escape.

She never got to explain to Ran how they got caught. The guards were being real pushy and silencing them nonstop. After her littlr stunt, first Jasper then Leila yelled her name. Both of them didn't approve of her kick to the rabbit. "Wha-!? But he started it!" She protested like a child, only to pout like one afterwards. She really thought they'd have her side on the matter.

"Just relax Eloi. The goal is to get them somewhere and contain them. They can fuss like little brats all they want." Layla patted his shoulder and smiled- but then the boy was off to go protect a bunny. Just like everyone else, she sighed. Ace was now eyeing Eloi, as if sizing him up. She had stopped walking and everything when he approached her. Bunnies were trying to get her to move. He expected her to...apologize? Huh, he looked so sincere and concerned too...

"Ha! You want me to apologize?" Ace leaned closer with a deviously wicked grin. "No." She turned after much prodding from the bunnies and laughed, walking off. That guard couldn't have been serious! Why would she apologize? Those furballs were attacking her! It wasn't her fault they didn't like her. Her attention turned back to the large dog. Ace grinned even wider when he came closer. There was no hiding the sudden dislike for the redhead and that didn't even make the girl falter. "Hehe, nice big and dangerous dog. I see you've got a bit of spunk." She would have moved closer to the dog, but Eloi got in the way and made them head up the steps.

Layla looked over at Aimee with a soft laugh. "Eloi is trying his best. He does a good job, he's just a bit soft. It's adorable really." She lead the ladies upstairs before waiting for everyone else. "Your cooperation is welcomed you know. It'd be easier and nicer if you just cooperated and followed along." She gave a pointed look at Ace, who was now standing next to Leila. The redhead's attention however was still on Bento so she didn't hear a word of what Layla said. "I wanna pet him." Layla's spear stopped her from getting closer and she frowned.

"Stay in line kid. Don't cause any trouble."

"Kid? You look as old me! Aren't you a kid too?"

Layla frowned and her grip tightened on her spear. "I have you know I am a guard and a fully grown adult!" Ace put her hands up in a surrendering motion.

"Heh, alright alright- whoa!" Suddenly Arno was hit on the head with a vase.

"Arno!" Layla hurried to her trainee. However he was already furious and looked as if he was ready to murder the person who dropped the vase on him. "Calm down, we need to get that fixed up before you lose too much blood." Despite her examination, she was on high alert. "Keep the prisoners close! Make sure they don't escape!"

Ace watched the events unfold and grinned back at Gary. "Yo Pinkie, what took you so long? We were getting grays waiting for you." She chuckled and then kicked a few more bunny guards off her and Leila. "Go, go!" What she wasn't expecting was the same dog she wanted to pet to start breathing fire. Now her eyes sparkled in awe. "I want him."

"Ace! Let's go!" Numair yelled as he ushered Jasper and Riley out.

"But he breathes-"

This time, Victoria had ushered her out. "Unless you plan on sitting in a cell forever, I suggest you move!" Ace sighed, but knowing it was true she turned and hightailed it with the others. She brought up the rear of the group, helping kick bunny guards off their tails. "Hey, I suggest you find somewhere and fast! These guards and this fire don't seem to be stopping anytime soon!" She looked around as they ran away. "Try a window! If we're lucky we can fall on a bush...Unless of course we're too high up." She looked at the cuffs she was still wearing and tugged at them. Nope. Still not coming off.

Layla had raced after them after scolding Arno to get his wound patched up. "Bunny guards, split up. Some of you take the south corridor and block their path. The rest, follow after them. Take one down and the others will stop to help them." That is of course these humans were complete monsters and wouldn't care if their own got captured. Geez these humans did nothing but give them a hard time. Didn't they know what cooperation was!?

As Inadi and Ran continued trying to spin a story to the guards the screeching sound of the fire alarm reached their ears and Inadi could only wince at the sound of the horrid thing. At least Nowhere shared that in common with the real world: The fire alarms were meant to stun you first while the fire quickly made it's way to you. Counterproductive in his mind. Quick movement outside in the hall made Inadi take a quick glance to see who all was scooting passed. Looking out and seeing the rest of their group being escorted further down the hall only made Inadi's heart sink.

Here they all were, rats in a cage and now being brought out single file as if they were elementary students all over again. Harper, Riley and even Jasper were all just marching along while being pushed by the guards. Poor Toby looked like he was not even conscious enough to carry himself down the way. No telling what they had done to the poor kid. While the worry quickly spread onto his face, the guard Arno seemed to take their story and their attempt at bribery not too well as they were also being pushed out of the cell way. With a quick shot to Ran, he was hoping to see any kind of light in his eyes that meant a plan was sure to come. Sadly, no such luck. And he couldn't provide that same light for Ran either.

The female guard Layla also seemed a bit edgy, claiming she wouldn't have minded they roasting to the flame itself. Inadi wanted to shoot a quick jab, but figured being escorted out with a weapon pointed at himself and the others was not a premier position for humor. However it seemed the red headed wonder child in Ace was providing all the headache she could for the guards in the group and her mouth just kept flapping on. As Ran explained their arrival in the dungeon Inadi could only groan as he remembered their fall into the swamp. "Don't remind me of that Ran! I'm still not comfortable with the thoughts of what all was in that water, if we can even call it that," Inadi complained as he tilted his head slightly more backwards to look at Ace. "And you need to keep it down and collect yourself. otherwise someone is getting hit with these guard's taser's or maybe something a bit sharper if they can get away with it." He told her as he went back to scowling on their predicament. Something had to happen to let them get out of there. No way this was how it was going to end.

The large guard dog that showed up made Inadi's fleeting hopes of outrunning the guards disappear, especially after seeing the teeth on the thing. Now they had them beat numbers wise and had them, or at least Inadi, shrouded in fear as to what would happen to them if they tried to get away. Bunny guards began running back and forth with buckets full of water trying to put out whatever flame ended up being created. Seemed like they were really double timing it to stop the fire. Must have been pretty bad all things considered. As Ran questioned whether or not the star would be okay Inadi turned his head slightly with a forced half smile. "I'm sure a star wouldn't get burned up by a casual fire Ran. We're talking about a star here, not a pinata or a loose piece of paper. Not that it matters to be honest, since I don't think we'll be getting that blasted thing with the way this whole adventure has turned out." Inadi said with the last sentence being masked under his breath.

As he did a vase came and smacked one of the guards in the face and quickly Harper reacted to the words of someone Inadi couldn't see but he recognized the voice. Turns out the hooded figures weren't all that bad in the end after all. While everyone began running ahead and trying to get away from the group of guards Inadi looked back at Ran with a laugh and shrug. "Here I thought it would be doom and gloom for everyone," He joked while looking back at Ace and the others. "Hey red-head! I take back what I said! GO NUTS WILL YA?!" Inadi yelled as he quickly pushed the others in the group ahead of him like Leila, Numair, Riley and Jasper. He pulled Ran's elbow, both of his hands still caught in the cuffs. "You grab one of Toby's arms and I'll take the other. Not leaving the poor boy knocked out in a burning building right?" He said as he grabbed a hold of Toby's right arm and tried his best to run with the kid but he found it difficult to get a good grip. Stupid cuffs were a problem, but the dead weight Toby was just as bad. Hopefully the running air would wake him up, but Inadi wasn't holding out for hope. As Ran got a hold of Toby's other arm Inadi began chasing after the others who went on ahead of him.

Gary and... Luke? Not to mention 'Zilla, too. It was unexpected, the rescue, but he wasn't going to complain. They needed to get out of there, and quickly.

Everyone jumped into action, and Sacha was rather impressed by Harper's tackle before launching towards Toby who was currently being dragged by Inadi and Ran

"You run. I've got him."

Somehow he managed to get the boy over one shoulder like a potato sack. The shackled made things unnecessarily difficult as did the bunny guard who lunged his way, but was quickly punted a good distance away.

"Sorry," He mumbled both to the bunny and also to the boy who was probably not having such a fun time bouncing on his shoulder. He couldn't wait till he could get those shackles off, but they had to escape intact first which would be rather difficult, considering that more and more bunnies were swarming in while the guards were starting to recover from the surprise attack from Gary and Luke.

Oh, and everything was on fire. Can't forget the fire. This was going to be such a mess for the person who would end up having to clean up- He felt sorry for them.

"Soot damage is hard to clean up, but vinegar and baking soda would help with the smoke smell," he commented to Leila who he was running besides. Long legs certainly helped in running away from many things, including guards. Ace was running a little ways in front of them and they quickly caught up.

"I think cells are usually in the basement... So we go up?" He nodded towards the stairs that Luke and Gary had made their entrance from. "Does anyone remember where the exit is? Or wherever an exit might be?"

He couldn't keep track of how many bunnies had been kicked through the air by now, and they wouldn't be able to last long with the firebreathing dog on their heels. He reaaaally disliked situations like this.

"Soot damage is hard to clean up, but vinegar and baking soda would help with the smoke smell,"

"wha - ?"

Leila didn't get to respond properly to that remark for several reasons. Sacha was running ahead of her, which hid his lips from providing visual clues to what he was saying, indistinct mixed into all the background noise. The alarm was still on. The shackles were getting severely in the way of her keeping her balance, Leila was finding it very difficult to keep up with Sacha even when he had Toby over his shoulders. Grabbing Sacha by the wrist to slow him down will probably result in all three of them falling over. She was also a bit too busy apologizing to every bunny guard she inevitably tripped over or just so happened to be flying into her face at speeds too fast to react to - a difficult task since it was hard to tell any two of them apart and avoid repetition or omission.

After finally piecing together what Sacha just said, she wanted to make sure that she was not the one who ended up needed that piece of advice, because it implied her failing to make this escape and will thus have to deal with complications far beyond soot damage.

"Up." She repeated as she paused in her tracks. The vase was dropped from a staircase, so there must be an entrance - in the direction of the oversized fire-breathing puppy currently in their pursuit.
Leila turned around and kept running.

"Are you certain the cell was in the basement?" She yelled in Sacha's direction.

She was fully aware, however, that it did not matter. If they were to come across any open routes before they were outrun by the hound or engulfed by the horde of bunnies, they would have no option but to take it. A quick tracing of the paths they went through in the castle up to this point indicated that they were, in fact, quite some distance above ground level - yet, again, here a staircase leading upwards from the second story may very well lead to one floor below ground level.

"Up - " She muttered. It was getting very hard to traverse the floor, which she was nearly unable to see at the moment due to the guards grouping around them.

"- stairs!"

Sacha kept running forward.

It was one of the worst times to spend time realizing what words spoken in quick succession may mean something different from what they were originally meant to mean separately.

"Sacha!" She called from a few steps distance behind him, struggling to push one bunny guard off one of her legs with both hands, with only her head and line of sight left to use in gesturing towards the general direction.

"Stairs!" She isolated the word that was not supposed to be part of a generic "upstairs".

In that direction there was a oddly situated, yet very material, flight of stairs along one wall of the hallway, much like the one from above which Luke and Gary showed up earlier.

Castle Corridor: First Floor

Eloi_Xadrez.jpeg

Eloi sniffed. "Aww come on, the poor guy needs loads of hugs and cuddles too." He demonstrated by nuzzling his cheek against the captured bunny guard's head. The action caused the furry little soldier to freeze before relaxing. It lolled around in his arms happily. Hearing a smash, Eloi gaped, as he saw Arno clutching his bleeding forehead. He sputtered around and the next thing he knew, he was crushing the flailing rabbit against the carpeted floor. Eloi's fingers clenched and unclenched rapidly, leaving darker streaks in the plush, red carpet, when he heard several snarls followed by a series of barking. Heat and flame came shortly after that. C – St. Cinnamon sticks! He forgot about Bento.

Bento.jpeg

"Bento!" He yelled, as he practically tucked the bunny guard under his arm and bolted after his partner. His kidnapee's paws biffing the air helplessly and its eyes trained on the bugle laying on the ground behind them. "Oh right!" Eloi paused and placed the bunny on ground. He patted it on its head. "Go little one … you're free."

Noticing Bento inhaling, the boy cupped his hands and yelled to the retreating humans. "DUCK!"

2116trp.png

Neither Ran nor Inadi continued their four-legged race, but given their height difference (no thanks to Ran being the shortest), they barely made any headway after dodging the first – fireball? More barking came from behind. "Inadi – we should carry him. Use a stretcher or … or something!"

"You run. I've got him."

"Sacha – thanks!" Ran exclaimed. The two men following closely behind to cover Sacha's back as best as they could. Inadi occasionally giving them status updates regarding the 'furry monster' practically on their heels. Unable to resist, Ran turned around. "RUN FASTER!"

"Fire!" Someone added, probably Inadi.

Castle Corridor: Unknown Side Hallway

2116trp.png

Somehow the Lost Souls, who were already running as fast as they could, managed to push themselves a little bit more and disappeared down a side hall, as more flames licked the side walls and slammed into the wall at the very end. Celery! There were bunny guards everywhere. The two groups eyed each other warily. Ace, Harper, Riley – with Jasper in toll – seized the opportunity to barrel forward. One of the bunnies threw his bucket down. Water darkened the red carpet as it rolled around. Not caring about the mess, the little soldier grabbed his bugle.

Bento.jpeg

"Inadi! Bunny, quick!" Ran flailed, but the alarm was sounded. The first group – the four that ran ahead – neared the other end, but before they could decide which way to go, a pair of glowing red eyes glared at them. Sharp teeth gleamed red in the light of the fire gathering at the back of Bento's throat. "Retreat! We can – "

"Not go that way …" He added as an afterthought, after hearing the other guards not too far off. Their voices were almost masked by the stupid alarm. In fact, he wouldn't have heard it at all, if he had been further away from the start of this corridor.

"Lelia, are you okay?" Ran stopped too and he gripped the girl's arm, albeit much more gently than he would have with Rils or Toby. He shook her lightly, worried that she might be too panicking to think straight. She said something in her usual soft voice, as the no-longer-so-stunned bunnies made their first move. 'Upstairs' she had uttered and yelled for Sacha. "Stairs! Lelia, I'd – no, go!"

Ran egged her forward, as he pounced on the bunny grabbing her leg. With loads of apology and promises to set them free one day, he tossed the little fella into the other two attempting to sneak up on him. He almost tripped over, when he finally got up. He gritted his teeth, kicked several times and did a Michael Jackson inspired spin – minus the hat tilt, of course. The limber man rejoiced being free of the furry shackles by running as fast as he could towards the stairs.

"Guys, follow Lelia." He yelled, not daring to say too much. "Inadi, shall we cover them?"

Castle Corridor: En Route to Second Floor

2116trp.png

The two oldest waited till the last of their friends were halfway up the flight of stairs before they dashed up too, Ran before Inadi, the latter receiving a huge thumbs up from the older man. He grinned. "Even without a weapon, you're a warrior."

Back Downstairs

zOCIWdI.jpg

"It's your fault!"

Eloi_Xadrez.jpeg

"If you'd only listen –"

"Admit you lost control of your dog."

"He's not a DOG!" Eloi growled. "He's my partner."

Each boy blaming the other for holding him back. The dog soldier puffed up his cheek and crossed his arm. Arno returned the gesture in kind. Bento whined slightly, nudging his master. There was no way the hellhound could climb up that particular flight of stairs, and if the boys continued bickering, they were definitely going to lose him.

"Sir! Ma'am … Ma'am!" The two trainees yelled as they saluted Rook, Aimee and Layla in turn.

"The hoomans ran up the stairs, sir," Arno reported. "This stairs only leads up to the second floor. They'll need to find another stairs, if they wish to head to the roof."

"Why the roof?" Eloi shot back, giving his rival a look.

"Where else would they go?" Arno rolled his eyes. "The access to the courtyard is on this level, unless they wish to leap down and break a leg."

Eloi sniffed, not wishing to say that he sincerely hoped the hoomans proved Arno wrong. The look on his 'friend's' face would be priceless…

Getting the Hell Out of the Castle

"Whoo! For an old man, you've still got a lot of fight in you." Luke was waiting for everyone at the top of the narrow staircase Leila had found. Bento was no longer on their tracks, but he was guessing they'd run into a handful of angry guards if they stuck around. He gave Inadi and Ran a thumbs up. "You guys will never guess what Gargar and I found." He was running after the others, but unlike majority of the lost souls, Luke was smiling and he sounded excited too.

2889r28.jpg

339jevs.png

"Guys!" Riley was jogging in place at the end of the hall. Numair and Victoria had already ran ahead with the others, and the latter was yelling at them to cut the chatter and hightail it. "Talk later. Run now."

Harper had also paused not too far from where Riley was standing, he was staring worriedly at Ran and Inadi. They were in the clear for now, but they had to run. Riley shoved him forward and they ran past a dazed bunny guard. The entire castle had fallen into a state of chaos, nobodies yelled about a spreading fire as the shrill yell of several alarms ran inside everyone's heads.

"Diaper and I found the star." Gary stated plainly as she gave the remaining guards her best evil eye.

That statement made everyone stop in their tracks and Luke grinned cheekily at their reactions. "That's right," he dashed past Inadi and Ran. "We have the star." There was no time for a proper celebration and the humans made their way down several halls with Victoria and her right hand man Numair in the lead. Several guards had scattered on the floor below and were making their way up the first flight of stairs.

2kok7b.jpg

suGBCks.png

The humans ran down several halls before Victoria let out a soft curse. The ex dragoon could do many things, but she wasn't familiar with the queen's castle.

"We can fight them." C stated calmly.

Vicky shook her head. "Too many of them, we'll be overwhelmed." She was an experienced fighter, but she was in no way suicidal. They took a quick turn down a hall before Sacha let out a sharp gasp. C and Victoria swiveled around just in time to see a hand grab Sacha by the arm. The boy tumbled into a secret room, and due to the added weight on his shoulder, both Sacha and Toby wound up flat on the ground.

Victoria and Numair sprang into action only to find themselves face to face with several guides.

5vxWiUG.png

Secret Room

"Shh," Dissonance brought her pointer finger to her lips and smiled. "We're here to help."

The ex dragoon didn't buy it, but seeing the relieved faces of the humans made her lower her guard.

"Hurry." Serenade, the older of the rabbit sisters motioned for the humans to enter the room. The sound of clinking boots echoed throughout the hall, and because no one wanted to face the wrath of several angry guards they quickly shuffled into the secret room by the hall. Once the last human had entered, a grumpy Songbird closed the door.

Neither Brandy nor Songbird looked pleased, but Dissonance looked like an excited kid on Christmas morning.

The white rabbit bit back a squeal then pulled both Leila and Harper into a tight hug. It was sad that Haku was no longer with them, and it was even sadder that most of the familiar faces she had grown fond of were gone. But it was still good to see them.

"So..." Serenade eyed the hooded figures warily. "What brings you all back to the castle?"

Farther behind the humans

"Both of you, knock it off now." Layla swatted at Eloi's head and Arno's shoulder. "Quit your bickering and work together. We're supposed to be guarding the castle. Get it together!" She shoved past them, looking to see if there was another way around to block them off.

Second Floor Hallway

Ace watched as havoc ensued behind them. Fire, panicked guards, people yelling- it all made her laugh. "I've never made this much of a mess before." She was still following the group, slowing her pace and letting everyone pass her. She got a few shouts to keep moving and Ace stuck her tongue out. "I am! I am! Keep running, don't worry about me!" She was a little disheartened that the dog had stopped following them, it made the chase a the more fun. And- And the dog breathed fire! Who wouldn't want that!? Whoever owned that dog was real lucky... Alternatively, they were also lucky she couldn't steal said dog at the time.

"No way, you guys found it? Nice!" Despite the 'running for freedom' mood, she managed to cheerfully skip closer to the group. "As great as that is, we should probably choose a way of escape. We can only run from coppers for so long you know. Trust me I have tried." Passing by a window, Ace skidded to a halt. "Ideaaa~!" She pulled open the window, in the process, yanking off the large curtains on it. With the curtains floating to the ground, it gave enough time for everyone to hurry into the secret room. Some of the guards even stopped to see if the humans were crazy enough to actually jump out the window.

Ace's original intent was to catch more things on fire...however a distraction was good too.

"Oh hey! It's the our tour guides!" Ace had the impulse to once more reach out and tug at Brandy's bunny ear, but she stopped herself, figuring it wasn't the best time to do so. Instead she hopped to the front and pointed at the jar containing the star. "We came to get that. It's on our list. We can go home now!" Ace beamed as usual and then looked around.

"Can't quite go home sitting in here. We should probably keep moving." Another thought occurred to her. "How'd you find us? We were quite ninja like- heh, 'cept for burning a few things down."

"You and Gary did great too! Sneakily getting the star under their noses and busting us!" Ran beamed and gave Luke an air-five, but the boy blinked for a moment and continued flashing a thumbs up. This made the artist puzzled. Where air-fives a thing for people that age? Luckily Inadi chose to butt in.

"Nowhere changes people," Inadi responded cryptically. He adjusted his spectacles quickly in an attempt to hide his embarrassment at being called a 'warrior'. Personally, he felt he was still falling short of such effuse praise. Compared to Victoria and the Hooded Figures, he was nothing more than a newbie. "Not everything has to be bad."

"Yeah, take getting fitter for instance. Nowhere is the best kickstarter program for permanent weight loss and better fitness." Ran joked, as he clutched his side. A horrid stitch caused his left side to ache badly, but at least, he wasn't panting as badly as he did back when he first met Ise. He slowed down slightly then forced himself to speed up after some coaxing from Inadi. "I – think I may need to lose more weight." He wheezed.

On hindsight, he already shed quite a bit of weight, considering his belt needed to be punched again. He doubted it was even healthy weight loss. Maybe, if he stayed a few years here, he might develop some abs – provided he had the right training.

"Did you hear that?" Inadi looked more alert all of a sudden. He glanced at Jasper up ahead running beside Harper. The two stared at Victoria and Numair jumping into a previously hidden room. Inadi shook his head vigorously, hoping his girlfriend wouldn't be as foolhardy. A light frown creased her pale forehead. She hesitated then leaped in, causing him to swear under his breath in a garbled version of Japanese and something else. "Jasper!"

Castle: Secret Room (Reunion Time!)

"Jasper … I'm coming!" Yelling like a madman, the bespectacled writer dashed in and nearly slammed straight into Ace. He backpedalled and bumped into a familiar rabbit. He pushed Brandy away and stood there with his arms folded.

"Oh why are you here?" His harsh tone masked his actual feelings, one of intense relief. Seeing the Guides made him want to hug them, but somehow he felt awkward doing so. He wasn't sure, but deep down he believed there used to be some animosity between him, Brandy and Song. "Not that I'm not – hey! Why didn't you come sooner?" He scowled a little, looking a lot less like a sour faced kid and more like a helpless boy trying to make himself look brave. "I – er – I…"

Jasper walked back to him and intertwined her fingers in his, resting her pale head gently on his shoulders. She waited for him to calm down before reaching over to flick his forehead. He winced. She whispered something gently into his ear before turning back to the Guides. "Sorry about Inadi," the girl said softly, a slow blush coloring her cheeks. Remnants of the shy germaphobe remained, but given how much she was already starting to forget, an almost new (and bolder) persona was emerging. "We're really happy to see YOU!"

She burst into tears, as she threw herself at Brandy. Vaguely in her mind, she remembered being closed to another black haired guide, but since there was only one black haired Nobody around, it had to be Brandy. She continued sobbing into his shirt, while Inadi continued standing there looking slightly embarrassed. He lowered his arms and looked pointedly at the ceiling. Out of the corner of his eyes, he saw Harper being flanked by two Nobodies - a pair of sisters it seemed, one as fair as the other dark. Before he could address them, the reuniting group was interrupted once again.

2116trp.png

Ran ushered Lelia into the room. He leaped away as Songbird rushed over to close the door. For a moment, the artist gripped the girl's shoulders tightly, as the sound of voices and footsteps came from outside. By the sound of it, the guards were no longer accompanied by that behemoth dog. He breathed a sigh of relief and let go, after the voices faded into the distance. Studying the group gathered, Ran's face split into a huge grin.

"MARTINI! LOOK AT YOU. YOU - YOU'RE GORGEOUS." He bounded over to the mermaid and pulled her into a rib crushing hug. Seriously, he never would have imagined her to be so vibrant after recovering her color. The last he saw the fashionista was back when she was drab and gray. He pulled away slightly after someone gave a polite cough. "Oh sorry ... "

"Wait! How did you - guys? How did you find us?" He asked half-excitedly and half-warily. This was not the best reunion scenario, considering they had left the Guides without a word of good-bye and hardly contacted them. He gulped, feeling a lot more awkward. "We - how have you been?" He tried switching topics, but failed miserably. "We would have contacted you, but we met some new friends."

Ran knew he was wandering into dangerous territory, but his eyes fell on the "star". "They're like us, hoomans wishing to go home, so we'll be going home together." He declared firmly. "The Hooded Figures - they really aren't that bad." That was way too sudden...

"I - mean, we owe you an explanation for dropping back into your lives again, don't we?" He admitted finally. "Appearing suddenly and causing the ruckus with the fire and all." Having been among the last two in the room, he missed Serenade's question and Ace's subsequent response.

The adult scratched his head lightly. His eyes flitted to the teary Jasper, the ever stoic Inadi, Riley, Harper, Lelia, Toby (who was still out cold) and Ace, the original group that these Guides helped from the very beginning. He was prepared to be the spokesperson, if necessary. It was the least they could do, since they were about to turn the Guides' lives upside down once more.

Circumstances have changed and helping them would be a public declaration of betraying the Queen. Not a comfortable circumstance considering that Martini, Brandy, Songbird and these two other Nobodies would continue living in Nowhere long after they, the hoomans, have gone home. Guys? Ran thought mentally. Outwardly, he said. "A lot of things have changed and helping us may put you in danger."

He took a deep breath. "I believe the last you heard about us was at Cog City..."

Without looking away at the others, almost as if he needed some affirmation, Ran summarized the events that happened after they retrieved the USB. First starting with their fateful meeting with the Hooded Figures and Victoria, next was their underwater fight with the zombie fish resulting in the successful retrieval of the black pearl and ending with them coming back to retrieve the chaotic star.

There was another pause, this time to let the information sink in. "We aren't alone either. Besides Victoria, we've had help and support from others as well." Ran looked at Harper, trying to confirm whether they should mention the dragon riders and the rest of the Guides. The feeling from earlier returned again, a nagging voice warning him not to divulge everything, because that could put a whole lot of people in jepardy. "So ... yeah, feel free to ask any questions."

Ran noticed Inadi glancing at the door. The Japanese youth pressed a finger to his lips to shush him before he could say another word. Ran nodded slowly and listened intently. There were voices outside again. One ... two ... three distinct voices. There was no mistaking two of them - they belonged to the guards in charge of Cell A.

Thank Celery! Once again the voices grew softer as the guards seemed to split up again. The trainee guarding him earlier (Arno) insisting loudly that the hoomans must have found an alternate way up to the next floor.

"We'll answer your questions as best as we can before asking you to help us out of here." Ran was now looking at each Guide in turn. "You've already done a lot for us, even putting yourselves in mortal danger countless times, so lying to you would be doing all of you a great disservice, one that I won't be able to live with for the rest of my life." He sighed, realizing he was merely restating what he said earlier; the only thing truly worrying him about getting more people involved. "I'm sorry we had to meet again under such grim circumstances."

Standing with his face feeling as red as it probably looked after Jasper's quick flick to his forehead made Inadi adjust himself quickly so as to not embarrass himself anymore. The words that his girlfriend had whispered into his ear ringing in his mind were partly to blame for the flush on his face. In her old timid whisper of a voice she had told him, "I missed you, you big dummy." Inadi only wished that that finger of hers didn't cause a slight stinging sensation on his forehead and instead just rested on his cheek or something of a similar nature. Either way, it was great to see her safe and sound. And knowing that they were only a few steps away from getting home made all these nightmares and trials seem so long ago.

Seeing Brandy and the rest of the guides brought joy into his mind seeing that they were now working towards helping them and getting them home at their own risk of death. Remembering how he had treated Avian and the guides during their fight with the witch only piled on old guilt he had thought he was beyond at this point. His mind had just lifted the weight of wondering what had happened to his fellow Lost Souls with the break out, and now the weight of trying to save face with those whom he had wronged and misjudged instead took its place. A lovely juggling act that the man had been going back and forth on for damn near the entire time of this journey since their return from Sol what seemed like months ago. Time was another thing that changed for people in Nowhere. Either that or he had just stopped trying to keep track of it.

Looking towards Harper and seeing Ran look to him made Inadi wonder what all the group was leaning towards in the overall status of their plan. Ran seemed to not know how much to divulge in regards to their alliance with the hooded figures, the dragon riders and all the other things that had developed since they last saw the guides. Choosing to keep his mouth shut himself he turned towards Harper and gave him a quick nod. "If we have the star and the rest of the castle is looking for us I think maybe questions should be saved for another time, if not at all. Last thing we need is to give those guards an opportunity to spread out and circle us. Then we all lose a little weight above the shoulders." Inadi said as he slowly moved his finger over his jugular. One thing Inadi really hoped was that the execution style in Nowhere was at least a beheading. Shocking chairs seemed a little out of place here, although he himself did have a necklace that shot out bolts in the end. And poison was probably administered through lethal sugar overdose. No telling how that would end your life but Inadi would rather the end come swiftly if it were to come at all.

Suddenly Inadi heard voices through the door and gave Ran a quick sign to keep as silent as possible. Hearing the voices and the familiar guards so close and then disappear only gave Inadi more ammunition to his original claim that questions should be saved until there was safety to be found. "They are splitting up and looking for us. If they catch any of us then this whole thing was a waste of time and resources. The cell's were far too cramping for me to want to take another trip back into it guys. Ace, think you can keep that ninja stuff up and watch the front of the group while me and Ran keep up our job of watching the back? And Brandy, I'm sure you've got a good idea of the castle layout, or at least better than our own. Know any good paths Mister Dog Walker and his cronies wouldn't think to check?" Inadi asked as he grabbed Jasper's hand in a tight squeeze, trying to help her move past her tears she had been shedding recently. His smile was coming out a bit stronger now. Still it wouldn't mean much behind the bars of another cell.

Secret Room

The first thought that crossed Sacha's mind was that Toby had rather pointy elbows that were currently digging into his back. His second thought was that they had been caught, but a short moment later when he managed to wriggle out from underneath the blond boy and spotted the guards, he relaxed and got up slowly, attempting to help Toby up as well but ended up just propping him up against a wall.

These were the guides of this group of humans? From the look of some of them, they didn't seem overly happy to see them. Or were they just staring at the hooded figures? Sacha backed away when the black haired rabbit-man turned his piercing stare over in his direction.

b27GvEb.png

Well, it wasn't that he was completely displeased to see the humans again. They weren't completely unscathed but were in one piece at least, and that did bring a slight feeling of relief to the bunny. Of course, that was on top if the annoyance and frustration caused by the humans getting themselves into this mess into the first place. He would have loved to have given them a piece of his mind right then and there, especially towards Ace's nonchalant manner about, oh you know- being thrown in jail, if it wasn't for Jasper bursting into tears and promptly latching herself onto him.

While Brandy was trying to process the sudden new and loudly weeping attachment to his person, Martini was floating about the room trying to hug anyone and everyone she could reach, a little teary eyed herself.

"It's so good to see you all again- Oh you look so beat up and tired and what are you wearing I mean, at least you look well fed-"

Sacha nods from his spot slightly away from the touching reunions, looking slightly pleased.

Brandy had finally recovered enough and attempted to give the still weeping the girl a few reassuring pats on the back, all thoughts of chewing them out very far from his mind. Not that he could, with Ran being so earnest in attempting to explain themselves.

"Inadi's right, questions later," He finally sighted, gently peeling off the girl from his shirt and grimacing at the large wet spot. Jasper was nudged towards her boyfriend while Brandy turned to peel of Martini who was all but smothering poor Harper in bubbles and hugs, dragging her off as she protested.

"The tunnels aren't that uncommon knowledge, and sooner or later someone's going to remember's it's there and find us. We should get out first, and then talk."

And they certainly would talk. Brandy knew, and he was sure the other guides had picked up on it as well, that they would be asked to make a decision. Perhaps he was just trying to postpone the moment when they had to answer- the tunnels weren't really that well known, especially that particular entrance they had used. But for now they'd get to safety through the dimly lit tunnels and after that he'd maybe yell at them a little for being reckless and trying to infiltrate the castle. Then they could get on the important stuff later.

At least they'd gotten the star so all this trouble hadn't been for nothing.

"Well it being captured with the most wanted criminals in Nowhere is big news, you know." Martini huffed, freeing herself from a distracted and slightly fuming Brandy's grasp. "I mean it was totally kept hush hush- I didn't even know about it! Though I guess the grapevine ended up doing it's job and the bunsisters found out. I was so surprised when I got the phone call you don't even know!"

Secret Room → Hallway

"It's good to see you too, Martini." Harper gave the teary-eyed mermaid a pat on the back and tried to muster up a smile. Compared to last time, the mermaid was practically glowing. It was so good to see them again, but like Ran said, if only it had been under better circumstances. "We really missed you guys." Brandy and Songbird were pulled into a hug, but what was supposed to be a quick greeting turned into a hugfest when Dissonance grabbed both Leila and Jasper and pulled everyone close for a mighty squeeze.

"Ran's right," Riley and Ace were yanked into Dissonance's bear hug. "Looking great, Martini. And Song, your hat is as fluffy as ever." Not the best reunion out there, but it was nice to know the guides were still looking out for them despite what had taken in place in the forest of the ancients.

8wThlM6.png

suGBCks.png

"Nice distraction. Ace, right? And it wasn't hard." Luke struck a pose. "Rainbowzilla found the star. Huh? Cloaks are fashionable!" While the guides and the lost souls had some sort of quick reunion, Victoria, Ise, and the hooded figures hung back. They had different guides during their own time, and it didn't help that Songbird was glaring at Gary. The bird remembered her, she was the pink hobbit that robbed his cart. She'd cost him many clients, but he bit his tongue and opted to scowl instead. The hugging in this breadbox of a room wasn't helping the item hunter's temper either.

Ran tried to explain their situation to the guides and Serenade gave the man an understanding nod. She appreciated the honesty, and like her fellow guides, she knew that helping the humans escape would be risky. The queen was a wonderful person, but she didn't know the humans like the guides did. Frankly, they were a bit odd, but Serenade didn't think they were bad people. From the beginning, they'd always wanted only one thing. The humans wanted to go home and she wanted to help make that possible.

5vxWiUG.png

"Thank you. Ran, yes? The honesty is appreciated." Serenade would have said more, but Brandy was already one step ahead of her. Her friend mentioned the tunnels and getting to them before the soldiers could. With the fire and all the ruckus, escaping would prove to be quite the challenge, but if they could cause some sort of distraction or miraculously sneak past the patrolling guards they'd be home free. "We should get going." At this point Brandy was peeling Martini off a laughing Harper while Dissonance poked her head out of the hidden door.

"All clear, sis."

"Praise Celery for the grape vine," Numair threw in.

"Alrighty, sis and I will be down the hall making sure the guards look for you elsewhere." Everyone was once again pulled into a dramatic hug. Oh, how she wished Haku was still with them. Leila received a second hug before Serenade had to separate her sister from the puppy-like human girl. "Brandy, Marti, we'll meet you guys at the tunnel, kay? We won't take too long, it's a promise."

"Just lay low and you'll be alright." The older rabbit sister nodded her head before dragging Dissonance out by the arm. They marched to the end of the hall just as a trainee with a helmet far too big for his head came running past in a frenzy.

The kid skidded to a stop and began mumbling about a fire and getting both sisters to safety. He received a firm shake of the head from Serenade before she mentioned seeing the cloaked hooligans making a run for the rooftop. The trainee's eyes went wide and in a flash, he was rallying his companions. The sound of their clinking boots was audible from the secret room, but it died down after several frantic stomps.

Dissonance turned around and gave Songbird a wink. The item hunter took it as a signal and told Brandy it was time for them to go.

Outside the Castle

"Hey, commander? You reckon their alright in there? I'm starting to get worried...the baby dragons are getting antsy too."

Cobalt and Air received pats to their scaly heads as Garret gave Dune a confident nod. "Have faith, young grasshopper. The Queen's castle is as random as it is large. And they've got Victoria and Ise with them. I don't know the humans all too well, but I've got faith in Vicky and Ise, and no one can land a smack down like Victoria." He let out a sigh as memories of his training days with her and Avian came to mind.

Cobalt let out another worried roar, but as soon as Noe started to hum a little tune, the dragons quieted down.

Secret Tunnel --> Escaping

Eventually, they all came to the conclusion of questions after escaping which was perfectly fine to Ace. Normally it was a bad idea to do that kind of thing anyway. Plans were being made, all the while, Ace had her ear pressed to the wall, listening for anyone that was close by. Hearing Luke's compliment made Ace grin and put her thumbs up. "Easy peasy." Her attention had once more fell on listening around. Fortunately, no one was near them. But that meant they needed to hurry and move. "So far, things are clear guys. But those guards are going to start fanning out even more. Might want to hurry."

She walked over to the group, looking Inadi's way when she was spoken to. Of course, he received a grin and then a salute. "Got it. Ninja in the front line. Make sure to be stealthy as possible. Avoid getting caught. I've trained for this." Whether she was serious about that last part or not was up to question, but it didn't matter. Ace adjusted her hat and started walking towards the exit with the rabbit sisters rushing ahead. Seeing the guard, she brought a finger to her lips, gesturing everyone to pause. The footsteps of the guard had gotten far away- and possibly turned a corner, and once more they were on the move.

Luck seemed to be on their side for the most part, until Ace heard the sound of clinking metal. She stopped, grabbing Brandy and Songbird by their shirts to stop them. "Backwards, backwards!" She whispered to the rest behind her. When they all managed to hide behind a corner, the small group raced past. They must have gotten the news that the humans had gone to the roof too. "That was close." She let go of the two guides and nudged them forward. "Geez this place is a maze."

Ace once again paused near a window, debating just how far it would be to just jump the rest of the way down. "We could use the curtains as rope too..." It was only the second floor. Wasn't that far down- however Ace was nudged onward. "I wonder if I could steal that dog...A fire breathing dog would be amazing to have..." It seemed as though the group was starting to realize Ace's train of thought. Before she could get carried away anymore, a few of them were focusing her attention back on being a ninja.

"If you go back, we'll get caught. And if that happens you won't be able to see the dragons anymore." Clever girl that Jasper was.

There was a new determined look in Ace's eye. "Maybe another time fire dog. Maybe another time." Dragons were so much more important! She couldn't lose the opportunity to see them again!

Hallways: Disappearing Down the Rabbit Hole

2116trp.png

"Backwards, backwards!"

"Huh?" The daydreaming adult grabbed C's hand and pulled her along, when he saw Ace retreating with Songbird and Brandy in toll. A hand grabbed his other wrist and soon he, C and the rest were hidden from view. He rested his free hand on C's shoulder to prevent her from leaping forward to challenge the guards to a duel.

He kept his voice low. "It's the two boys from earlier. Thank Celery the dog's not with them."

Ironically, Arno and Eloi were so focused on finding Rook and Aimee, that they didn't even glance to the side or they would have seen the entire group. After the boys vanished round the corner, the hoomans and the guides continued onwards towards the tunnels, walking even faster than they did earlier. The more experienced ones looking extra alert.

"Are you alright?" Ran asked, as he slowed down slightly in order to walk beside Lelia. He waved to Inadi to indicate that the young man should go ahead with Jasper, Harper and Riley. At least having one of them acting as rear guard would ensure that no one was left behind.

More footsteps sent the group retreating into another corner. This time they were squashed together in the shadows, as three older guards ran forward with the three trainees flanking them. Arno declaring loudly that he and Eloi searched the roof multiple times. However, the trainee with the helmet too big for his head insisted that he spoke to a reliable witness not too long ago.

Was this even supposed to be good news? Ran was glad Serenade and Dissonance's ploy worked, but there was no telling how much time they had. The guards could change their minds and come back down this same corridor again. Apparently he wasn't the one thinking the same thing, because someone activated a trapdoor and before he knew it, the entire group plunged down into the darkness below.

Please don't let this be another swamp, Ran prayed…

Outside the Tunnels

Air.jpeg

Noe stroked the black head lying on her lap. The eyes turned slit-like, as Cobalt growled. Noe, like Ise, knew exactly where he loved to be scratched – that tiny ridge just behind his left ear. Their gently caress was enough to make him melt. Air wasn't so easily tamed. The purple baby yelped and grunted, as he pounced at the tuft of grass. Unfortunately for him, the tiny cricket disappeared. He left out several disappointed howls.

Garaemi.jpeg

Gara, who was hidden among the branches of a nearby tree, frowned. Remembering the new bomb Dune created two days ago, the sniper called out to his platoon mate. "Dune, toss me that taffy thingamajig."

"Thanks!" The rider snatched the white and multicolored dotted sphere out of the air. Pressing his middle finger against his thumb, Gara whistled. Air's ears twitched. He whistled again and Air bounded over like an excited pup. The dragonet clawed the bottom of the tree excitedly, believing that the sullen rider wanted to play catch. Gara kept up the charade by waving the bomb tantalizingly. "You want this, huh? Catch!"

Air's jaws parted and the teeth pierced the surface of the white ball. A loud thundering clap filled the area along with copious amounts of smoke. The thick cloud caused the unsuspecting riders to cough violently. By the time they managed to recover, a powder white Air sat on the ground daze. The poor startled thing tried to open its jaws, but they kept snapping shut after he pulled them apart.

"Gara!" Noe looked horrified. "You didn't!"

"Hey, a quiet sound dragon means we won't be jeopardizing our mission."

Lull.jpeg

Chevra.jpeg

Off in the distance, the ever amused Lull's eyes twinkled. He rolled around on his back, laughing, but he stopped after he received a shove from the disgruntled Chevra. She still hadn't quite forgiven him for taking advantage of the earlier distraction to splash her with a jet of water. Lull tried to retaliate, but missed the agile female. She headbutted him with all her might and he flew head first down the tunnel. The water dragon soon found his head firmly wedged in the narrow entrance of the tunnel. In his distress, the panicky little one began blowing loads of watery bubbles.

Still Wandering in the Warren (aka Rabbit Tunnels)

2116trp.png

The falling hoomans landed with a loud foomph. Multicolored feathers flew everywhere, as they lay there for a moment or two. Strands of softly glowing fairy lights illuminated the cavern and the tunnels leading away from it. Lining the sides of this particular chamber were several well-stocked bookshelves and even one or two display shelves housing exquisite vases and delicate breakables. The rich colors of the tapestries, Persian rugs and paintings covering the rest of the walls glowed warmly in the light, giving the underground cave a warm, inviting atmosphere.

"I want pancakes …" the semi-cheery pronouncement was followed by a soft groan. The bubbly blonde clutched his head, as he sat up from where he had fallen earlier. However, the sudden movement proved to be too much for him, and Toby found himself flopping down into the pillows again. He lay there dazed. "Are we back in the Hobbit Hole?"

"Toby!" Ran fell to his knees beside his first companion, but one look told him that the boy was far from okay. Toby's eyes were still dilated and his skin pale. A nasty, bumpy bruise indicated some sort of swelling near his hair line. Ran forced himself to be remain calm. "Can you sit up?"

"I guess …" Toby staggered to his feet, worrying Ran even more. The blonde averted his eyes, as he fell to his knees once more. Having refused all offers to be carried in his usual cheery manner, the stubborn teen finally agreed to allow two of his friends to support him. He chattered as loudly and animatedly as he could, not wishing to call attention to his injuries.

Ran frowned. "Rils, I think he needs a healer."

Jasper hesitated before joining into the conversation. "He does. Did you see that nasty lump on his forehead?" She glanced back at Toby again, wishing she still had her medallion. "Hopefully Sacha or Noe could do something once we get back to the Hobbit Hole."

"Which way do we go?" Ran asked.

Left. Right. Left. Ran gave up trying to memorize the path. The tunnels all looked the same to him, so he doubted he'd be able to figure out the way back into the castle even with the relatively good lighting down here. Next they went down for a bit, took two rights and finally began climbing up a winding slope. The path was so gentle that only those looking to the left could see how high they were. Ran gulped, when he heard several exclaiming about the steep drop to a splattery end. What wouldn't he give to have one of those hover boards again! At least, if he fell, he'd still remain suspended a good foot above the unforgiving ground. A chill ran down his spine, literally. Ran blinked, as a second wet, chill slid down his back and the same sensation dripped down the ridge of his nose. Water? He looked up and gasped. Water filled bubbles were everywhere. Those hitting the stalactites burst and left cool water trails creeping towards the tip to form huge droplets.

"Lull? Lull! Guys, we're nearly there." Ran yelled excitedly. "A-and the riders are waiting!"

It somehow felt very strange to be held in Dissonance's embrace.

Around the corner on the top of the staircase they encountered the guards. It was one of those moments that felt like they were re-enactments of the past - but at the same time not quite the same. Probably aware of what trying to compare the two scenes would bring up, Leila quite skillfully avoided recalling memories of a time when everyone was still with them.

While Ran went on with his apologies and explanations and inspiring words, "great to see you all again." was all that Leila could offer.

Leila wanted to take the time to hug every one of the guides. Each for at least half a minute so that she could memorize down to every detail what they felt like. That time - however ironically being made reference to in this realm - was something that they couldn't now afford.

She followed the others in front of her in the group on their way out. "Take care" was a strange thing to say when they were themselves the ones trying to not be caught, but Leila said it anyway.
_____

"Is Toby okay?"

She kept looking over her shoulder as she climbed. He hadn't seemed to be very awake ever since he awoke from the knockout back in the cell. His cheerful demeanor was still there, but it only made her worry more: was the nonsense he was uttering intentional, or was he really still out of it? They had already seen how Nowhere wore people's minds out, and she couldn't help but fear that it might just also make those minds that much more fragile and it that much harder for them to recover properly.

"Lull? Lull! Guys, we're nearly there. A-and the riders are waiting!"
_____

Leila sat besides Toby, who had a little help from her along with Harper and Sacha to climb out of the entrance to the caverns. Toby clearly felt quite exhausted as he lay down entirely on the ground the moment he got both of his feet away from the danger of falling back in. His absently gesturing at the clouds either laid question to, or strengthened that impression. The water dragon was aside, with his front paws rubbing against the places on the bridge of its snout that had been stuck between the stone wedges from which it had been recently removed.
The only reason Leila wasn't collapsed like Toby was because she didn't want to have dirt in her hair.

As soon she caught her breath, she pushed herself up, dusting the dirt and sand off. The castle was some distance off - over the treetops and, quite counter-intuitively, in front of them. It also looked a bit closer than she expected from the time they spent in the tunnels.

She turned to face the riders and dragons, and nodded to each one as a greeting while anticipating someone to deliver a more proper one.

She still didn't really understand the purpose of the random trapdoor in the castle being built where it was.

"We...are out of the castle for now, I suppose." She said, checking the group and resting relieved that they were all there and not so relieved that Toby still relied on Harper to stand upright. She then turned to speak to Luke.

"And...we have the star?"

Seeing all the reunion emotions cut short due to his own urging made Inadi feel slightly guilty that he took away a good moment from everyone, but the knowledge that they were still being chased made that guilt disappear as they all began to head out. As Jasper was nudged towards him he gave her hand a quick squeeze and smiled at her. "Things just keep picking up don't they? I could really go for a long vacation once we're back home." He told her as she smiled back and gave him a nod. As they continued on Inadi hoped and began making silent wishes through his breath that the escape plan would go swiftly. Sadly he forgot who he suggested be put out in front.

As Ace began daydreaming about a fire breathing dog friend Inadi could feel his lip slipping as he bit into it while his head began rattling in frustration. Was there no end to this woman's ADHD?! Every time something caught her eye it would slow her from a trot to a pure statuesque standstill. And it was about a dog that would just as quickly rip out their jugulars before allowing them to pet it. Looking to Ran, he shot him a look that said 'Can you believe this?!' as Jasper finally refocused Ace's attention and got the leader of the train moving again. Thank whatever candy spirits lived in Nowhere for Jasper and her ability to refocus the many Lost Souls in the group. Inadi's face eventually settled as he continued forward with Ran behind him as well as some of the others in their group.

As the whole group squeezed into a corner to escape the sounds of footsteps Inadi couldn't help but feel claustrophobic in the dark and tight space of what seemed like a maze to him at this point. While everyone else heard the guards talk Inadi couldn't help but notice a strange creaking he heard nearby. What was it? Gears maybe? No that was impossible. In all the times he had been to the castle there hadn't been any signs of that kind of technology outside of maybe the front gate but even then. Yet he was positive of a creaking. "Harper do you hear a..." Inadi's voice was suddenly stifled by a loud gasp as a trap door opened beneath them and they began a decent. All Inadi saw was darkness, not from the fall, but rather the inside of his eyelids as he would rather see nothing than see doom wherever they landed.

Inadi landed with a loud thud and rolled slightly. As he opened one of his eyes slightly to see where they were he noticed a feather stuck in his glasses as he quickly ripped it out and took a look around and saw the group as well as others in a lit cave it seemed. He didn't know where he was and sighed as he turned back to the group and saw Reilly out of the corner of his eye. "Is it so hard to just want to wake up in a spot with a nice bath and food waiting for you rather than a cave filled with stuff from Martini's summer collection?" He joked as he stood up and brushed his clothes free of excess feathers.

Hearing Toby wake up and begin asking for food made Inadi happy to see. Giving the blonde boy a quick nod he pointed at his head. "I'd suggest everyone give the guy some room to breath and gather himself. He's so dizzy I bet he can't guess we're still in Nowhere." He joked as he patted Toby on the leg after his stammer over to the huddled group nearly ended with him tripping over more feathers. A groan came from his throat as another two or three showed up on his hip and shoulder that he had apparently missed earlier. Yes, they made for a soft landing but there blasted things were starting to get a little too touchy for his preference.

Looking around Inadi couldn't remember much about the Hobbit Hole himself from what the others had told him about it as Ran found it difficult to remember the way out. Plus it was a lot colder in here than he would have liked and seeing the bubbles in the ceiling probably were the cause. "Wait, why would bubbles be in here? There isn't a bubble machine in here is there?" Inadi asked out of curiosity. Suddenly Inadi remembered Lull just as Ran did and he helped everyone to their feet as they made their way out of the tunnels.

Once out, Inadi laid down on the ground and began laughing to himself as he dug out small patches of dirt into his grasp. "Didn't think I'd be feeling this stuff again. Thought I'd be stuck in that cell with Ran for the rest of my life. And no offense Ran, but I don't think either of us would have wanted to be cell mates for any longer than we were," Inadi joked as he picked himself up off the ground and walked up to Leila who was talking to Luke and the rest of the group. Leila then asked about the star and saw that Toby still needed Harper's help to stand. Seeing that Inadi came over and draped Toby's other arm over his shoulder and gave the boy a quick nod. Looking back at Leila and Luke he couldn't help but feel a little concerned with whatever the last step was going to be to get back home. "Luke, if he have the star with us then all we need to do is get it with the rest of the list and we can go home and be done with this place. That is still the case isn't it?" Inadi asked with a little bit of hopelessness in his voice as he suddenly found Toby to be a little heavier than he remembered from before. He was exhausted, as they all were he imagined. If there was a next step, he hoped it was a simple one. One they could do soon.

Secret Tunnel → Outside the Castle

"C'mon, Tobs, it's just a bit farther." Riley took a step towards the blonde, but backed off a little when Inadi mentioned giving the boy some space. Harper and Sacha were already assisting him, so she stuck to the front of the group with the rather cautious Brandy and Songbird. The girl was thankful they had Martini with them because if not for the mermaid, the atmosphere would have been really tense.

"Hey, Brandy, how much farther does this rabbit hole go?" The guide said something about the exit not being too far away now, and she noticed the shift in his expression. "You guys didn't have to help us, but we're extremely grateful." Thanking people was more Harper's thing, but she gave the rabbit a thankful smile then continued to follow after him. Riley only stopped when bubbles started streaming into the tunnel. And at this point, Ran began to get all excited.

"Let's not keep them waiting, for all we know that dog is hot on our heels." Victoria stuck to the back of the group and waited for the others to climb out of the tunnel. It took a moment for Lull to notice the humans, but when he did, he let out a few roars. This drew the attention of the riders in the area and soon Garret, Dune, and the other trainees were hauling the humans out of the tunnel.

"Woops, there you go, Jasper." Numair was one of the first humans to exit the tunnel and he helped pull the healer out of the hole.

"I knew you guys could do it." Garret assisted the last human out of the hole, but his eyes grew a little wider when he noticed Brandy, Songbird, and Martini. "I see you had some help...on their behalf, we'd like to thank you. I imagine this isn't a position any of you want to be in, yes?" Garret rubbed the back of his head before helping the guides out of the rabbit hole. Someone, mentioned something about the star and Luke puffed out his chest, claiming that their victory had all been thanks to Rainbowzilla and the hobbit.

The young man pulled out a jar containing a black wisp within it. He puffed out his chest and held it out for Leila and the others to see.

"Pretty great, right?"

Garret nodded. "It is, but we can't stay here any longer." The castle had fallen into a state of chaos and it would probably be awhile before the guides searched outside, but if they stayed any longer, the chance of them getting caught would grow larger. "We'll celebrate later." Once again Garret looked to the guides. "Thank you for everything." With that said he motioned for the others to get on the dragon.

"Wait," Harper looked to his fellow lost souls then the guides that stood by the entrance of the tunnels. "Songbird, Brandy, Martini, I know we've been a pain for almost the entirety of our stay, and I know helping us could get you into a lot of trouble—"

He was cut off by Riley. "But you helped us anyway, what Harper is probably trying to say is, would you consider coming with us?"

Harper nodded slowly, his gaze never leaving the guides. "You don't have to, but it's an offer."

Garret and the other riders looked quite confused, but the other humans seemed to like the idea, so the riders stayed out of it. As strange as this deal was, it was between the humans and the guides.

Escaping!

The tunnels were not only endless, but rather confusing to keep up with. Ace did her best to stay the leader, however her leadership was put at copilot considering she had no clue where they were going anymore. After the tunnel split and began to consist of turns, Brandy was in charge. Ace did keep up with making sure guards weren't too close by. The next thing Ace knew, the floor gave away and someone had fallen on top of her. "Oww..." She groaned and stood slowly, after pushing whoever it was off her.

Toby's familiar voice made Ace grin. "It's about time you've woken up! I was beginning to think you were napping on the mission." Ace lightly patted the male's head before once more turning to lead the way.

"Prison break people. No time to stop." She put thumbs up and then pulled people and guides towards the exit. It wasn't long before the group was faced with dragons and their riders. "Hm..." While everyone reconnected and shared information Ace tentatively looked around the group of dragons. She had her arms folded and her gaze was critical. "Ah!" Just as she was about to give up hope, Little Red dashed from behind the group and nearly tackled Ace to the ground. "There you are! Rule one of survival, never get caught. But if you do get caught, escape as fast as you can."

Little Red, or formerly known as Tasha, seemed to nod as if she understood every word of the humans advice. Whether she did or not wasn't really said... Tasha blew a small flame as Ace got up, only to be given a head scratch. "Time to go?" Ace was excitedly planning to hop onto her own dragon when Garrett told them it was time to leave- unfortunately, the more skilled riders did not plan to allow Ace to ride any of their dragons. Instead, she would have to share Garrett's massive dragon as transportation.

"You all are no fun..." Ace's grumbling went unheard- although as usual it didn't last very long. She didn't hesitate to climb on the large dragon. "C'mon! Let's go before we get caught." Her gaze went down to Harper and the guides before laughing a little. "Yeah all of you, hop on. You're practically criminals now! Have some fun on the wild side! Heh, but if you don't wanna, that's fine too. Thanks a billion for the help!" Ace obviously was more intrigued by other things than waiting about.

"...Huh...Fire dog might be close...I still want him."

Reunited with the Rides → Hoping the Guides Join Us

NOE_V2.jpeg

"Toby …" Words failed the healer, as she reached out for his arm. Hold still, she wanted to say. Let me heal you was another phrase she could have said, but instead, she simply stared at the tips of her boots peeking from underneath her skirt. Air tilted his head before doing just the opposite. The boisterous pup tackled the whoozy hooman, knocking flat on his back. Noe stared at Toby before dropping to her knees. She waved a hand slowly before his face, watching his unfocused eyes gazing nowhere in particular.

2116trp.png

"He doesn't seem to have improved," Ran commented. He squatted close by staring at his fallen friend, who kept drifting in and out of consciousness. "I suspect he must have hit his head as he fell over earlier." His brows knitted. "Could you help him?"

Noe nodded once or twice, but shook her head quickly afterwards. "I – I don't know," the timid rider admitted. "It's best we have Annalise look at him." Her fingers touched the swelling blue-black lump at close to Toby's hairline. She drew her hand back when he winced, but after getting a few reassuring nods from Ran, she continued her examination. She found an even bigger lump towards the back of his head. "I am afraid a basic healing spell won't help."

She glanced up and almost gave a small start. Hovering close by was the girl with hair whiter than the snow. Noe felt even more self-conscious, so she inched towards Ran. The adult gave her a gentle pat on the back. "Jasper was the team cleric back during the witch's fight," he explained. "I guess that makes you colleagues. No, I mean, it means you two are the same. Healers, clerics…"

"She has a kindly presence," Noe offered. "The sort patients won't mind having around. I am sure Annalise would love having her around." Feeling a little less apprehensive around yet another new face, Noe moved away from Ran a bit. "Jasper," she whispered. "Would you like to join me and Toby on Air? Having two healers would help loads."

"Sacha, ready to go?" Ran approached the tallest young man in their group. He squeezed Sacha's shoulder and nodded – a silent gesture to indicate he appreciated what the Hooded Figure did for Toby during their escape. Without Sacha's help, he doubted he nor Inadi could have managed. "I shall go check on the rest."

Garaemi.jpeg

"Could I offer you a ride on Lull?" Gara offered Sacha and the hoomans closest to him. "I'm sure he is more than capable of carrying three of us." The sniper watched the shimmering Chevra sneaking towards her fellow pinkette. "Chev would have a hissy fit if Gary rides anyone but her." His lips twitched a little. "A borderline obsession on Chevy's side, if you ask me."

Not too far away, Gara spotted a girl with hair as dark as Jasper's was pale. He told Lull to lie on the ground to allow Sacha to mount, while he approached Lelia. "We can't all go on the big dragon, would you like to join me on Lull? Feel free to say no and I'll go find someone else."

2116trp.png

Ran gave Martini a friendly wave, as he finally joined the Hooded Figures and Victoria. He placed a friendly hand on both C's and Luke's shoulders. "Hey, everyone's getting ready to leave. Shall we find ourselves a dragon?" His lips were still smiling, as he whispered the next part. "Let's give them some time alone with their old friends, ne? They know Martini, Songbird and Brandy longer and better than most of us. If anyone can persuade them, it'd probably be Harper."

Gently, he steered his charges towards the rest of the dragons and riders. Despite saying he wished to give Harper and his friends some privacy, his eyes drifted back occasionally. He only stopped, when he noticed Caitlyn gazing at him. "Ah well, I can't help hoping the three would join us. They mean a lot to us, especially those with them from the start like Lelia, Harper and Jasper. They were their first friends. Just like the riders are Toby and mine."

Were you close to your Guides too? Ran wanted to ask, but he had learned long ago, that questions relating to their batch only made things sad. Next thing he knew, he found himself lying flat on the ground with two huge, clawed feet pressing down on him. Bright yellow eyes sparkled happily and a sandy tongue lapped his cheeks. Unfortunately, all Ran could do was groan.

EMI60kC.png

"Colby," he wheezed, as the excited Cobalt brought one foot down on his stomach. "You've gotten – evier. Ha – vier." Guess he didn't have to go far to find his ride. Now he'd have to find a second dragon for Luke and maybe C. Probably Ace would be going with Tasha, so that left Numair, Victoria, Harper, Rils and Inadi. Having finally been freed from Cobalt's loving crushes, he thanked Ise before giving her a quick hug.

"Say, Ise, who else is here? I think we could use one or two more dragons." Even as he spoke, he could have sworn he noticed a leaf-like wing fluttering slightly. "I guess Lotus is here – hiding somewhere. Felix is probably sleeping under a shady tree. How about Luxa and Aurora?"

OzzGwTB.jpg

The female rider in question had made it her mission to keep an eye on the maverick of the group - Ace. She crossed her arms and scowled disapprovingly, as she kept her eyes trained on her self-appointed charge. "You seem too happy for someone in trouble," she said darkly. "And what's this about a fire breathing dog? No one in their sane mind would want to have a hellhound. They are vicious and crazy." Almost like you, she thought privately, but didn't voice it out. After all, these were friends of Ise's too. "Aurora, please help or shut up."

ZH1MYsv.jpg

Aurora blinked slowly, keening slightly, as her head bumped against her rider's leg. Turning towards Ace, the little female looked the red headed hooman straight in the eye. An opalescent swirl danced in Aurora's eyes. Deep inside Ace's head, a cute, squeaky voice spoke up. "Hooman don't make Luxa mad. Please ..."
