The Institute for the mentally unstable

Aden stared at the flame with distraught eyes. It was as if his mind replayed that horrible night all over again and he was witnessing it all out of body. He quickly snapped back to reality. He moved his hand out and pulled back. Part of the flame detached from the match and seemed to float towards Aden. Then he pushed forward and the match burnt out. "They say I'll do horrible things with that ability." He sat down in the chair by him. "It's only magnets though. You'd be surprised how many don't know you can control fire with magnets. These idiots surely don't. Now do you need me for anything or are you just here to make a friend. In which case good luck." Aden wasn't always so cold. He used to be a very kind individual. The fire changed him though, both physically and mentally.

(I hope no one minds if I join..... I'll try to follow the story as well as I can)

Mizy wandered down the hallway, giddy and nervous, having managed to lose her guard. He was so annoying, always following her. It's not like she'd try to hurt anyone here.... Yet.... The thought made her giggle happily.

Lockie grinned again. 'Me? na i'm just bored. This place is an all out drag. What's there to do here?' He asked, leaning casually against the door, his arms folded across his chest, fingers playing with the box of matches. 'So basically, you're some kind of.. what.. experiment?' He asked, eyebrows raised. He wondered how it worked. This guy was interesting indeed, he was certain of that. maybe he could crack him. 'You know, you shouldn't be totally cooped up in here. It's stopped raining, they might let us all out into the yard if we're lucky. maybe we could riot until they do.' he grinned.

~
Dark shadows followed her, noises surrounded her at every corner. Fear filled her, bringing a whole new phase of paranoia. They were everywhere, the shadows, the voices.. the men.. everywhere. She screamed in her mind as someone reached out to grab her shoulder, tugging her into the shadowed alley. 'No.. No.. please.. let me go..' She pleaded, crying now. In reality, she thrashed, sobbing, crying, panicking even in her sleep. She wanted to escape the nightmare but she couldn't. The dream tugged her into her horrors, terrified out of her mind, struggling against the man that towered over her. 'Leave me alone..' She whimpered, screaming aloud.

" I am not an experiment...it... it was just a mistake. And if they let us out, they will. I'd rather not lengthen my time here by rioting." He knew the guy was probably messing around but he couldn't risk the possibility. "How about you leave my cell and stay strangers alright...Lockie?" He made a hand gesture to leave him be. Aden returned to his bed and grabbed his book. He became slightly irritated and felt uncomfortable after seeing the fire from the match.

Lyla heard the simpering and the cries, the evident fear in the woman's voice made her stand, she could here her moving and thrashing about, so she knew that she shouldn't touch her, being blind she couldn't see where to touch in the first place. She knelt by the bed, cookie at her side and said "Iris? Wake up. Wake up" she said in a more sturdy firm voice. She couldn't see what was going on, but she kept talking to her, in the same airy voice. "Wake up and calm down."

June never noticed people talking to her. She could rarely sort the loud voices and the mental ones. So talking to people got confusing and painful. She continued sitting in a room, ignoring the people around her she tried to shut their thoughts out. It didn't work.

Lockie chuckled and sat on the end of the bed. 'Weren't you listening? i can't. The lock fixed itself and now the only way out is by the orderlies.' He rolled his eyes and took the book out of his hands. 'What you reading?' he asked, studying the pages with interest. he knew the guy was probably irritated, but now lockie had accepted the unspoken challenge. 'See, the thing is, I don't just take hints. It doesn't work. I'm a stubborn jerk see.' He chuckled. 'Come on, lets go.'

~
It was hard for Iris to resurface from the drugs and the nightmare, but somehow she managed it, whimpering. She woke with difficulty and slowly looked at Lyla, calming down. 'Where.. where am I?' She asked, her eyes blank and filled with tears. She curled into a ball, rocking back and forth. 'Did you.. did you wake me?' She asked, knowing the answer before it came. 'Thank you..'

"I knew what you did. I would rather you call for those assholes then me. Better me not get in trouble with my standing in this place." Aden snatched his book back and placed it on his bed. "I really admire your attempts to fuck with me, and really I would play along any other day, but I just want to be left alone. How about a rain check on the whole riot thing you have planned?"

Lyla smiled in relief as she heard the panickng girl awake and nodded blindly "no problem, do you want some tea,?" She asked standing and feeling her way to the tea pot and filling a cup "you could really use something you know" she added. The had been talking to the herbs at the garden and they had been telling her about how the medicine effected the body. Their tea was better for the bod. a lot better. She made he way over carefully and placed the tea there. She heard the woman moving but she couldn't tell what she was doing "what's wrong, Hun?" She asked gently, placing the tea on the little stand beside the bed, and sitting at the edge of the bed. Lyleianna took a sip of the tea herself and took a deep breath

Lockie grinned. 'You're no fun. I thought you psychos were meant to be more entertaining. This place is boring as my old digs. Come on man, why such a buzzkill?' He asked, still pushing his luck. He liked getting people angry, it made him feel oddly empowered. Basically, he got a kick out of it. he couldn't help it. At the harsh tone and furious snatch of the book Lockie shrugged. 'Alright, i get it. I'll see ya at lunch.' He grinned and banged on the door. Two minutes later an attendant came. 'Would you let me out buddy?' he asked, grinning at the bewilderment on the man's face. 'What are you doing in there?' Lockie grinned again. 'Relax, it's not his fault. you really ought to fix that lock. It was open when I rocked up.' He laughed as the man let him out. 'See ya dude.'

~
Iris slowly reached for the tea, bringing it hesitantly to her lips before sipping it. 'I.. I had a nightmare.. I always have nightmares.. i don't like sleeping because of it..' She murmured, her hands shaking as she set the tea aside. 'Thank you.. for the tea.. and for waking me.. The sedatives.. they only help a little..' She said quietly, biting her lip. 'Are you.. did i hurt you?'

Aden was relieved when Lockie had left. The orderly had stayed to ask a few questions. "Aden, what happened here?" As much as it would please himself to rat Lockie out, he didn't. "You heard him, my lock failed." The orderly spoke into a radio on his chest before saying anything else. "Alright Aden, you need to leave to the rec room so we can fix your door. I didn't ask for an escort. Don't make me regret that." Aden rolled his eyes and walked past heading back again to the rec room. Once there he noticed that some patients were being let outside since the weather had cleared. Whether Aden was on this list is what he intended to find out.

He walked over and the orderly clearing patients stared at him for a few moments before sighing and gesturing for him to enter the yard. Aden smiled sarcastically and walked out. The fresh air was a relief and the new found sunlight was even better. Aden walked about the yard and felt at peace for the time being. He closed his eyes and imagined life outside, before this all. It wasn't until a breakdown of another patient before he was quickly snapped back into reality, causing his character to return, in all it's gloomy nature.

Lyleianna shook her head and smiled reassuringly "That's no good, at least you know what are dreams and what are reality" she said, shaking her head. Some of the poor patients here didn't know what was going on, always drugged up and delusional. Lyla pitied the poor things. She sighed and nodded "They would, drugs are not good for you. Sometimes they help but almost always come with catches. It isn't a problem, I like to use what i know" She smiled and said "It's about one of the only things i can do" she shrugged and then shoo kher head "Oh no, you haven't done anything of the sort, Honey"

Tamarine wiped away at her eyes until they were dry so that she could watch those who were being let out. Maybe the sun would do her some good, seeing as how the night always made her more depressed. She got up from her table, leaving the tray as it was and made her way over to one of the orderlies who was filing the others up to lead outside. Her voice shook slightly when he finally took notice of her. "W-would it be alright if I-I went out?" The orderly raised his brow suspiciously. "Name?" He took note of the blue, half racoon circles that were wrung around her eyes, deciding that even if she wasn't on the list, the girl seriously needed some vitamin D. "Tamarine..." He nodded vaguely, eyes pretending to scan the list until he raised his thumb and pointed to the door. "You're clear, Tamarine. Hurry up." She gave a quick nod and practically ran through the door, being careful not to bump anyone.

Aden found a place to sit and bask in the light, upset he did not bring his notebook to draw in. It was his main hobby and this would be the ideal place to partake in it. Instead he just layed back, not minding the wet grass. He placed his arms behind his head and closed his eyes. He took and deep breath and exhaled. " Not that bad I suppose."

Lockie grinned as he was escorted out of the building and into the yard. 'Woah buy me a drink first at least.' He said, tugging his arm out of his grip. 'I can walk by myself ya know.' he said, adjusting his jacket as if it had been completely rumpled by the orderly. He hated the way they were all treated as if they were animals or something. And he'd only been there a day! if this was life there he planned to get out as soon as he could. he stood in the centre of the yard and stretched, cracking his back easily. As he did he spotted Aden and waved, making his way over. 'So you got out then. Told you it'd be easy.' He grinned.

~
'I don't like it here.. There are too many people.. too many.. men.. and they.. they.. the drugs.. and..' She couldn't find the words, her mind completely addled from the sedative and the nightmares. 'I want to go.. Why wont they leave me alone?' She whispered, her knees drawn up to her chest again. 'I.. don't remember doing anything wrong.. But they say.. I have to stay..' She sighed and leaned against the padded wall. 'They won't even let me have a proper room.. They say I'm too dangerous, too fragile, too.. unpredictable..' She continued, banging the back of her head against the soft wall.

"Oh, hey who needs peace anyway?" Aden was obviously joking around. Being outside made him more joyful so seeing Lockie under these circumstances was a lot easier to tolerate. "Ya, I got out, thanks to you I suppose. I'd imagine once they are done fiddling around with a lock that works fine I'll be called to go right back into the hell hole." At this point Aden was sitting up, brushing the wetness from his arms. It really didn't make a difference, his back was soaked.

'Peace is overrated. And if that's what you're looking for you won't find any here. i mean look at these people. half are afraid out of their minds of something ridiculous, the other half are delusional. Peace is for normal people, not people who probably just smoked too much weed in their time and lost their minds for the delusions.' Lockie said with a casual shrug. 'You know what the best bit is? We didn't even have to riot.' His trademark crooked grin was back, along with the gleam in his eyes. 'I think they'll let you stay out here a little longer than usual.. I kinda... 'bribed' the orderlies on duty.' He struggled to find the best word for it, shrugging and not feeling like explaining exactly WHAT he'd done. 'Anyway, what matters is, now you're out you can help me find the weak link in their fortress. It should make for a little more entertainment then chilling around in a puddle all day.'

"Look I don't know how you got put in here, but you're new here. Very new. You're no different than any other Joe to walk in. You want out, I understand. You're freedoms have been stripped! All of our freedoms have," Aden stood up, now filling with anger. This anger wasn't particularly at Lockie either," They trap us here like we are the bane of the entire fucking planet, yet most of us are more sane than the fucking orderly's that so "honestly" protect us!" He clinched his hands into fists now and was yelling. He didn't know why he got so angry but he was and it was nice to finally vent.

Lockie grinned. 'You're cute when you're angry.' He commented casually, that grin spreading wider as the temper seemed to burn in the other guy. He wondered how far he could push him into fury. It was fun, testing the waters. I did mention that he's a little masochistic right? Or was it sadistic? Who knows, either way, he liked to push to the limit. He'd keep pushing and pushing, no matter who it was. And it was ALWAYS fun to test people's boundaries by posing the sexuality thing on them. He figured it made for a good judge of character. 'Woah man, you keep getting angry like that i'll only have to put a match near you for it to light. Then you might explode..' He acted as if pondering the possibility, working it out in his head. 'Hey that could be a fun experiment, mind if i try it?'

"You even touch your matches and I'll give you a little experience of what hell feels like. Don't fucking push me Lockie. It isn't worth it." Aden always snapped at the mentioning or even worse, the displaying of fire. He just happened to run into a grade a pyro nut. Just his luck. "I think I'll take my leave now. I'll just wait outside my door. Better than being here." He walked past Lockie shoving him aside with his shoulder.
