I just realized.. I didn't pick bow and arrow because the description says 'melee weapns'.. so why the hell did I pick throwing blades? Isn't that the same category as bow and arrow? I could just take a bow... so mebbe I'll just do 2 short swords?
Bows and arrows do work... kind of. They can actually wound and kill but only the weaker Terrors and it'll take several very well aimed, point blank shots to work. Knives would be more effective because of... reasons. But the most effective is something that is still in the hand of the owner when it makes contact with the Terror.

@Liky Of course, I'm always keen for new people.

Name: Rhiannon Jones
Age: 22
Gender: Female
Sexual orientation: Bisexual

Nationality: Welsh

History/Bio:
Born in mid-Wales along the cost in Ceredigion, Rhiannon lived a very rural life with perhaps a bi-annual trip to a large town or even one of the cities further to the South. Her father served in the Welsh Guards and was often away from home but the family didn't travel with him due to his frequent deployment in combat zones. Her mother worked as a nurse in the local surgery, having moved down from the more time consuming role of GP to look after the children in the absence of their father.

Her upbringing was strict and traditional in regards to oneself but she was encouraged to adopt modern attitudes towards others. As a result she has become someone who finds it easy to empathise but has a quite rigid personality and constantly expects the best of herself and others, within reason. She has no siblings, her parents barely spending time together due to her father's posts abroad or elsewhere in the country and so spent a lot of time with friends or by herself.

When the attacks by the Terrors came it was some time before they flooded through Wales, its mountainous terrain with deep valleys slowing their otherwise rapid advance. To begin with, many thought it was a joke; after all, it was like something from a horror film and the small Welsh village carried on with its daily life. When the evidence began to stack up, people began to leave family by family, packing up their belongings and heading to the few safe areas left.

Rhiannon was packed off with their neighbours, her mother staying to take care of those who were too ill to make such a journey. Since then she has heard nothing from her mother but was told by one of the few surviving members of the Welsh Guards that her father had been in London at the time of the initial attack but had not made it to the Tower of London, the only defensible fort in the city proper.

She joined the Guardians at the first chance, her family's military background helping her onto the training scheme at an especially young age. She excelled in combat and tactical training but was only ever technically skilled in leadership scenarios, recommended as a Sergeant. She turned down the initial offer, wanting to fight from the bottom rather than leapfrog her fellows because of the results of a few tests.

Personality/Reason for signing up:
Rhiannon is exceptionally methodical, calm and very much sees the big picture. Often in life one might refer to another as 'someone they'd want to take charge in an emergency'. Rhiannon is that type; she will make the hard decision quickly however she lacks that elusive charisma to maintain morale when the going is less tough. In this respect she would serve best as an adviser or second in command; someone who does not lead but is still in a position to make the correct choice.

Coming from a family with a military history it seemed only fitting and natural that she would employ her inherited skills against the newest foe.

Equipment: She current wields a longsword, as it standard equipment, but is already accomplished in the use of short spear.

Erika could be the corporal. If she is, can she have her preferred weapon?

It would still be the longsword to begin with. There's a reason for this and, without revealing too much, when they've been properly assigned they'll be able to make their own weapons. That will come very early in the RP (as in, after the first battle).

.::History/Bio::.
Vittani grew up in a poor family, resources constantly low and survival key. She grew up as a street rat and studied at the library everyday since they couldn't pay for her to attend school. Vittani grew to love books and eventually moved from just reading about school studies, to more interesting books. She found that she loved action and fantasy books. Her imagination would spark whenever she read them, and she constantly pictured herself with weapons and fighting off pirates or goblins or in an army. She loved it. The day the Terrors came was a strange one. Her family didn't have any form of internet or tv, so they were quite surprised when they went to town and saw people closing up shop. Her father stopped one person and asked what was happening. Everyone was fleeing to Carrickfergus Castle for safety from the Terrors.

Vitanni and her family went home and packed some things before leaving the follow the rest of the town. In total the population of the town and the people who lived around it was 14,000 which meant it wouldn't be a pleasant experience. When they arrived already half the town was there and so Vitanni and her family found a corner they claimed as their own and set up camp. They never left it unless one went to find food for they knew how people get when they get desperate. While she was there Vitanni watched people die of starvation, people get hurt or even killed over food and other resources, and deaths happen for other reasons. They were held up there for eight months before the 124 that were still alive were rescued. Vitanni was sixteen and her parents who had been in their forties, had passed on. One from being killed and the other from a sever fever.

They were taken to England where Vitanni started working as a waitress at a cafe to earn some cash. She slept on the streets with what she had brought from the refuge. One day while she was working Vitanni overheard the news on t.v. about how the Terrors could be killed with melee weapons. That same night when she was about to sleep under a tree, she was kicked by someone in a uniform with a sword on their belt. She got up and they explained that they were looking for people to join the fight against the Terrors. In other words, he asked her to join them. Vitanni saw no reason to say no, especially as she remember her parents who had been forced to go to that stupid 'refuge' because of the damn things. She agreed and a few days later was on her way to becoming one of the Guardian Corps.

.::Personality/Reason::.
Vitanni is a courageous, quick witted individual who is constantly aware of what's going on around her. She's quick on her feet and rather resourceful, a skill she acquired from how she grew up. Vitanni enjoys hanging out with other people and has a good sense of humor paired with a kind heart, however she knows when it's time to be serious. When times like that arises she focuses solely on what is going on and reacts accordingly. Despite her lack of strength she is quick and able to endure quite a bit. She's known to be stubborn and fiercely determined, never one to be easily swayed once she sets her mind to it. As for her reason on why she joined, there really isn't one. Vitanni hated the Terrors, still does, and remembers how she had to live for seven months because of them. She merely hates the thought of others going through that, and even more so the image of one killing some poor soul.

.::Equipment::.
Currently she uses the standard long sword however when they are able to make their own melee weapon she plans on wielding two long swords of her own design so they can fit to how she moves and what her skills are

Yay! Thank you ^-^

So I guess we should consider additional equipment too right? Like my scout/spy would go with light armors... Maybe night vision and magnification equipment?

Before I finish CS, how plausible would be to make character a combat medic? Oriented around fighting but with knowledge in medicine since... I presume we are going to get injured.

I'd like to know this too, the horrors may have set weapon's technology back but things like radios, cameras, drones and other high tech gadgets seem like they would still be viable.

Name
Aleksandar "Alex" Novak

Age

25

Gender

Male

Sexual orientation

Heterosexual

Nationality

Serbian

History/Bio

Alex's beginnings were that of a fortunate one. Coming from one of the upper-class family, he always saw himself as a person with a purpose, a reason to push himself to limits and beyond and make every day count. Though as a young lad it started less poetic and more along the lines "I want to help sick people", it fully manifested during his teen years in a form of a calling, a noble profession and pursuit of being a doctor. The desire to become one intensified even more as the Terrors arrived, striking without a single warning. The life with them around had to continue and so he attended only left medical school available in Serbia.

As years passed so did they all had to adapt to the fact that Terrors will provide a unique challenge, one that World has accepted as a foe that might very well be cause for humanity's extinction. Many volunteered and many joined the fight against the unspeakable horrors. Still, Alex persisted, believing that his calling will be to help those who remained. This drive pushed him to the absolute limits of his own determination and after four years he graduated summa cum laude - with highest honors. City hospital was quick to snatch him and for two years he was tossed between one ward to another, applying his knowledge to almost every scenario possible to a doctor.

But then... the horror. It felt like a hurricane that has came down on a small wooden house. Tides of Terrors swarmed through the city, mowing down innocent and the soldiers alike. Before the night has ended, streets were pained in crimson and black. By morning, every hospital and clinic was full with wounded. The horror didn't stop. One wave after another, men and women, adults and children, all were rushed to hospital. Those lucky ones were with minor gushes while others came limbless, abdomens teared open with claw marks all over body. One hell ended only for other to arise. Medical supplies were already running low and with no hope of resupply until the situation outside of the walls has been resolved, Chief of Medicine gave a bitter order to all medical staff:
"Save those who can be saved, ease up suffering on rest."

Armed with just a knife, Alex was placed before the defining moment in his life... to chose who he can save and who he will have to kill. Left hand would grab onto the arm of the unlucky sod and a quick thrust between ribs into the heart. Quick and painless, not even having time to say a prayer before he had to move to other patient only to determine if he can be saved. Many died that night. Remaining population of the city has been ordered to evacuate as soon as the military subdues situation enough for evacuation to begin. All went... all except Alex. Sitting inside high walls was not an answer in his opinion and he felt that his aid was needed elsewhere. Armed with just his exceptional knowledge and one bag filled personal effects and medical tools, he headed toward only place he thought would have best chance of winning against unspeakable horrors that Terrors sought to bring upon the humanity.

Personality

Careful, calculated, sarcastic and mild-tempered. Alex prefers to stay out of argument as much as possible, often looking for different solutions for the problem and opts for one that yields optimal success with as little risk as possible. The life itself hasn't prepared him for the nightmares that appeared and he has seen no small amount of them. The sarcasm is his way of defense, the valve that keeps his sanity in check. Still, with all that, he is usually easy to talk to, preferring to keep lighter topic for conversation. With times that are coming, everyone could use a moment of distraction.

Alex is capable fighter, good enough to hold on his own but far from the fact he's anything that will make people turn eye toward him. It is not what he does with sword that counts, but what he does with scalpel. Even under extreme circumstances, he is able to maintain his focus and do what he does best... patch people up and prepares them for another round.

Equipment

Currently wields long-sword but would preferably take short sword upon finishing his training.

Personal medical tools

@Liky Accepted! And yes, a combat medic makes perfect sense.

With regards to other equipment you've all somewhat touched in an important point in the sense that the weaponry has gone back years in sophistication but the other tech, such as vehicles, medicine and communications, is largely modern.

Of course, a lot of infrastructure has been lost so mobile phones use is very limited. However the Guardians will have access to radios, camo gear, surveillance equipment etc. Think about what role you think your character would inhabit within the team and what specialised gear that might entail. By and large they'll get what they want/need.

Armour, however, offers little protection against only the weakest of Terrors so few Guardians wear much, maybe something equivelant to knife-proof vests but more lightweight. More important is mobility and something that won't tire them out over long periods of combat.

@Jinxer For the sake of argument, you are saying that armor is offering little to no protection. Modern protection that we know of to be effective and cost-efficient is kevlar which is solid protection against small caliber firearms which... leads me to assume that Terrors are in fact able to tear it apart. That is quite the amazing amount of force but considering nature it is not surprising. Still we are entering into combat relying completely on tactic to hit and not be hit.

@Liky By and large, yes. The Guardians work in small cells and essentially protect each other's backs as anything else will result in injury or death.

There are some mechanics I have worked out regarding defence of a kind but, again, we'll get to that.

Actually, the attack doesn't need to penetrate the armor. Blunt force transfers through most rigid armor, breaking bones and pulping organs. Something with strength comparable to a horse could easily crush the ribcage with a good hit, modern kevlar may stop the bullet but it can leave a bruise where the shot impacted

Our roles are significantly limited then:D. However we look at it, we are still going to be forced to fight within arm-reaching range which then again leads me to believe that whatever is protecting Terrors from being nuked or turned into target practice for tanks is connected to range. Bow and arrow works if it is within point-blank shot at which point defeats purpose of having bow and arrow.

I am sure this won't break any secrets as it has probably been done prior to camp training... how durable and how 'squishy' are Terrors to sword attack?

This is why Erika is a strong advocate for the use of polearms

Well I am still intrigued as to why Terrors are only affected by melee weapons but I am content to learn during RP. More fun to have a little secret to picque curiosity.

Did we ever decide who was going to be corporal?
