Marina couldn't believe Edward just ran off like that. He never disobeyed Lyn, and when Marina called out for him to stop he ignored her too. Marina herself, couldn't control her panic as much as easily as Lyn, and was already setting off to get Edward when Lyn spoke up.

Marina knew her eyes were dilated in panic, the forest was brighter, and much more sharper. "What's intoxicating, what do you mean 'difficult too leave'?"... "Not affected by what?! What ability to leave if I wish?!" Marina could see the panic in the womens eyes, and just by that made her own begin to water. Marina forced herself to calm as much as she could, and listened intently to her next few words.

The stone! That's why Marina had that feeling, that's why she didn't like going over there. Sure she was 'immune' to it but she could feel the magic in it, the reason why the forest was off limits to everyone. She knew something was going to happen, she knew it, and was too childish to leave. Too ignorant to know any better. She knew Edward was drawn to it by his eyes, but she didn't do anything about it.

When Lyn said the stone would destroy the Edward Marina knew, felt something snap inside of her. It took a huge effort not to pull her hair out, and to stay put and listen to what Lyn was saying. Thankfully she didn't need to stay long, because the moment Lyn asked Marina to go get Edward, she had already started racing toward the direction he went.

Marina felt the panic rising up, despite her attempts to keep it controlled. Whipping through anything that was in her way, she had already gotten a few cuts and scrapes having tripped once, and ran through a thorn bush soon after. Calling his name every five seconds, or whenever she thought she saw him. She was in a desperate flight to save her own selfish need, but also one entrusted to her by Edwards mother.

Lyn watched as Marina ran off and prayed Edward would be found and they both would come home safely. Closing her eyes she sent her prayers up and away waiting a moment or two before bringing herself back to reality. She could do nothing because she herself was being pulled in that direction. If she were to be any help she would leave and let them come to her. It was her only option and she knew it, but she did not like to run away from her family. Turning she headed back to camp with tears still in her eyes refusing to fall.

Edward ran as fast as he could. He had heard his mother call out to him but he'd ignored it. Like he was ignoring the calls from Marina. It hurt him to realize how easy it was to do. He had to get there before she caught up with him. Focusing all his energy he shifted into the black cat she knew but made it so he was even stealthier than he'd been before. He had to be quite and careful if he was going to do it right. It was close, he could feel the pull of it. The bright blue stone which had haunted his dreams since the group had come here.

He'd almost had it once, but they'd caught him and he was lucky then to get away. Stopping just at the edge of the clearing he lay down on his stomach. Ears flat and eyes watchful. He was going to just go for it, and grab it as soon as the guards shifted positions which was…now. Bolding like streak of lightning he was across the clearing and standing over the blue stone. Without pausing he scooped it up in his mouth and ran off in the other direction.

The guards were shocked at first to see this black cat come out of nowhere but that changed when they saw the stone was gone. Almost as one they set off in pursuit. They could not catch him and he was soon lost in the brush. The guards had given up and went to their king to report the news. The entire forest had been abandoned and they were all waiting for further instruction. The king did not want to do anything rash because the stone was valuable yes, but it was also very powerful and could do a lot of damage in the hands of someone dangerous.

Marina knew it was already too late before she even got there, having heard the startled yelps on the men, then the metallic clamping of their boots as they set off in pursuit. But she didn't stop, she had to be sure.

Ducking under the same willow tree with its tangled foots, Marina foot was caught in one of the hooks and she near face planted into the clearing. She was no longer crying, but trying to keep herself from grinding her teeth to dust. She was mad at Edward, more mad then she ever had been. Mad and sad. Mad at him for so easily putting himself in danger, and ignoring both Marina and Lyn. But also saddened because he ignored them and put himself at risk.

Quickly getting back up, she practically ran around the clearing, stopping to search the occasional spot. She was looking for either Edward, so that she could keep him or get the stone away from him. Or the stone, so that She could keep it away from him. She wasn't sure what she could do, much less anything, but then again she had to try.

Marina quickly gave up and turned to where the brush was pushed down from where the group went and set after. But this time, she tripped again and just laid there. She knew there was no point in searching, because of he didn't want to be found, he wasn't going to be found. She just hoped that he would see her in the dirt like this, hoping it would bring him back.

Both Marina's anger, and agony was in work. Clenching at the grass with her fist, and silently tearing, face contorted in both rage and sadness, shaking slightly while stiff at the same time. Without even knowing it, she was mostly overreacting in a way, Lyns words having sunk deep into Marina. But she didn't know if it would matter, for all she knew with Edward, he could be back in a few minutes, or never at all. She prayed to the spirits he would be back at all.

[spoili]Sorry this is late, got distracted. >w<[/spoili]

He had run as far and fast as his legs could carry him until he decided to double back. The guards had given up to easily and it made him a little worried. Had they found his mother or Marina? Running he shifted into a Jaguar to gain more distance over his terrain and to get to them faster when something pulsed in his mouth. At a dead stop he dropped the stone in his mouth onto the forest floor. It was glowing and felt like it was, alive. His body trembled and he did not like what the stone was emitting. Immediately his feline body went into defense mode and he began to circle around the stone to try and figure out what it was doing.

Nothing happened for what seemed like hours, which was only about a minute, when it pulsed again. A bright blue light that called out his name. The light was beautiful and the call, a beautiful woman's singing voice. It was the sound of someone who was in love and needed someone to help them. Of someone looking for something better and if they were just given the chance would go on to do wondrous things. It was a song by something evil but Edward was being sucked in.

In the back of his mind he was screaming at himself to take it back but anther part told him to take it and keep it forever. It was too beautiful to be kept on a stone surrounded by guards all day and night. Shaking his Jaguar head in an attempt to push out the song he found himself being more drawn to the stone. His body was moving on its own as one foot went in front of the other and soon he was lowering his head to pick it up again with his mouth when he stopped.

Marina?
He had heard her screaming at him before but he'd ignored it. It was only then did he realize she'd stopped. Had she been caught? Was she alright? The call was growing louder and he closed his eyes in an attempt to shut it out. Without thinking he let out a loud and heart wrenching roar into the air as he shifted into his human self again. The roar changed into a yell and he found himself sitting on his knees before the stone. The song was dulled. Without his extremely sensitive hearing he wouldn't be as drawn to it.

He had to go see if she was alright. Normally he would have remained in his feline form but something, rational, told him to change back. Picking up the stone he ran back toward the clearing. Eyes open and watchful while trying to dull the sense of hearing. He had not learned that skill like his mother could but he knew a little of how to do it. Part of the side effects, his senses remained a little, just a little, feline like for awhile after the shift.

Pushing through the trees he saw Marina on the ground. She looked angry and sad and he wasn't sure if it was for him or something else. "Are you alright?"

Marina felt something warm and wet trickle down the side of her leg, glancing down she saw that her right leg was gashed deeply down the side. She had no idea where she got it from, it didn't hurt badly but it was annoying. She rolled onto her left side and concentrated. It was definitely going to swell up, but when, she did not know, and she figured she would probably have a limp for about a week.

Marina started to hear what sounded like a distant growl, and it suddenly burst into a contorted scream that diminished in strength and sound. 'Edward! It had to be.' it was close, very close. And suddenly her heart skipped a painful beat, she just heard him. Slowly, she turned to face him with her arms raised protectively, expecting a demon poised to tear her apart.

Marina was greeted with none other than Edward, he looked slightly rugged, but it was Edward. She could only lay there, wide eyed and mouth dropped. She expected something chaotic, something completely un-Edward like. Who looked more concern about her than the stone on his hand. Her eyes flicked back to it, he had it with him! Purely on a protective impulse, she quickly jumped up and thrust forward. As she had feared not even a minute ago, her leg was already beginning to tighten up, and she landed in an awkward heap against him but didn't pause. Quickly wrenching the stone from his grasp and throwing it as far as she could into the clearing where it came from.

Only now marina noticed she was practically hanging off Edward, and with that brought the moment she was thinking about. Should she just slap him and never tell him to do it again, hug him and tell how worried she was? Or do one now then the other later. Not even realizing she was openly staring.

One leg went back for balance instantly as she threw herself at him. He had no idea why and was about to ask when he felt the stone ripped from his fingers and thrown away. His arm wrapped around Marina's waist to help her stand. For a moment he wondered why when he saw the gash on her leg. Without thinking he lifted her into his arms and held her, careful to not disturb the gash. "I'm sorry." He said thought he knew it was not enough.

He'd done it this time and he knew that though she seemed confused on what to do now she wouldn't be later. If anything he was more worried about her than he was about his mother. Well normally that was the case but in this instance he was sure to get it from both of them. His eyes shifted to where the stone fell and a part of him was drawn to it again. It pulsed and he gritted his teeth as he felt like a part of him was being pulled toward it.

The sound of clanking metal reached his ears and his head turned toward the way he'd come from. The guards were coming back and from the sound of it there were many of them. If he was going to keep Marina safe he had to get them out of there. Another glance at the stone and the call grew louder. His body began to turn toward it when the song was cut off by the sound of yelling. Snapping his head in the direction of the noise he only paused for a second before his body went into action. He ran the opposite way of the guards. Holding Marina close to him he muttered another apology as he carefully dodged and changed direction. He had to get them off of their sent, or away from their trail. He had to confuse them before they headed back to the group.

There was a pressure in his chest and his face had turned a little red. Part of it had to be the proximity between the two of them. He'd been close to her before but he hadn't been, as aware of her, as he was at that moment. The other part had to be the stone, it was calling to him and its grip was tight. It was taking a lot to ignore it and push foreword.

By the time the guards had given up their chase for a second time Edward had already laid down a pretty confusing trail for them to follow. He found a nice flat rock near the edge of the forest in sight of the group tents and set Marina down on it. Out of breath and finding it difficult to focus straight he looked at Marina and said, "I really messed up this time didn't I?" before he collapsed to the ground in exhaustion. On the hand that held the stone was an imprint of a rune that was on the stone. He was marked, the stone was not letting him go so easily.

Marina hardly noticed his arm around her waist because she was too busy focusing on the sounds of the guards. But it was when he lifted her is when it registered. Giving out a surprised yelp, but quickly put an end to stop it before it became noticeable. She probably would have issues walking as it is, and she didn't mind it really. It was awkward yes, but welcoming in a way. Though she did her best not to show it, quickly putting a stop to her crimson flush into a dull pink.

Marina closed her eyes and concentrated, taking in all of the senses. She finished having her fit, logic had taken over along with only some slight panic. If anything she was relived that they were finally leaving, and that they weren't dead or in shackles.

The slamming of her heart against her chest, both from the recent terror and the position she found herself in. Her breathing too, although quiet it was heavy. How quickly things change was always confusing, but even more at the moment.

Whenever Edward apologized, Marina quietly reassured him, knowing that he needed to concentrate on what he was doing instead of her. Now that the adrenalin flowing through her veins was starting to fade, the pain in her leg was beginning to become more noticeable, which made the occasional small whimper escape her throat.

When Marina saw the glow from the camp, let out a stressed, but revealed sigh "Dear spirits, we made it." And as he carried her to the rock, she began to think through the next ten minutes, every word and every response she could think of to anything that he might have said. But what he actually did say took her by surprise, And as he set her down she was slightly disappointed, feeling the cold of the night rush around her. But quickly, she blurted out before even thinking "If you ever do th-" but he collapsed before she could finish.

Marina had automatically tried to catch him to break the fall, but it only landed her stuck underneath him with another surprised squeal, thought this time she could not control her flush, as they were quite literately face to face. She only stuttered, trying to think of something to say "I...Wha...Why...Ca...Are you alright?!"

[spoili]Beep. >w<[/spoili]

Lyn was walking toward the edge of the forest for one more look to see if they'd made it when movement caught her eye. "Mariana! Edward! You're alright." She said rushing over to them pausing only for a second when she saw the state of them. Without a word she helped get Edward off of Marina and called for a doctor. She lay Edward carefully on his back and took a look at Marina's leg. "I was beginning to wonder if a search party was needed." She said attempting to hide the tears forming in her eyes.

Glancing up at Marina she said, "thank you for bringing him home. You two are the only ones I have left." She gave Marina a smile that light up her face and went back to her work on the leg. "It is not as bad as it looks but you will need to try and stay off of it for awhile." The doctor came up behind her and nodded his head.

"Looks like I'm not needed after all." He chuckled but began to patch up Marina anyway. "Sorry if this stings a bit, I'm not like the doctor you're used to but I do a pretty good job if I do say so myself." He said with a wink.

Lyn had backed away and was kneeling by Edward a sad look on her face. The hand which held the mark was in her own and she knew it was going to be a long road before he was safe.

In her mind, Marina gave a silent thanks to Lyn. Hiding her face with her hands, ignored the rest of the world and escaped into her own thoughts.

Marina had just told Edward exactly how she felt, not by her words, but by her actions. He was probably going to hate her now, and she hated herself for it. Thinking of everything she could have done to avoid how she reacted, but it was already in the past, and this was the present.

[spoili]I'm a little confuzzled o-e. Is Edward unconscious right now? I can't make a full post because I don't know >w< it sounds like he is but I just need to be sure. [/spoili]

[spoili]Yep he's out cold. Sorry for the poor post...it has been a very long day....O_O[/spoili]

[spoili]Hmmmmmm.....interact with Lyn, she's upset because of the mark on Edward's hand. It is sort of like a brand, the stone has chosen him and if he's not careful he'll be pulled back. He does not hate her either and once he wakes up....which won't be too much longer (maybe after your next post. XD...) He'll basically tell her so, if anything he'll blame himself...for good reason...silly, irritating, impulsive boy!!!![/spoili]

[spoili]Sorry that went completely out of track, lets just say that Marina got stuck under him Without spazzing the way she did >w< Curse you! Easily confused mind![/spoili]

Although Marina had trouble with walking, she had already began to work her way toward Lyn, despite the doctors advisement. Though slightly expecting it, a misplaced rock tripped her, and Marina had to slightly cling to Lyn to keep from falling. "Sorry..." Releasing herself, and making sure she wasn't putting too much pressure on the leg, now asked in a slightly panicked, concerned voice. "Is he alright?"

Marina hoped Edward was, she blamed herself for everything that happened. It was her fault for agreeing to go, and her fault for staying in the forests when she knew she shouldn't have been there. And was busy considering taking the punishment instead of Edward. His flight to save her only ended up with him loosing consciousness.

[spoili]Colors! Oh how they help with posts...
Do you mind if I start using them?[/spoili]

Lyn smiled at Marina as she came up behind her. When Marina tripped a bit and clung to her, Lyn also offered a hand and said, "there is no need to apologize." Her eyes went down to Edward and she let out a breath. "He'll be fine. He's just exhausted and overworked himself. The stone is powerful and it drains you if you should hold it for long periods."

She paused and bit her lip, closing her eyes to ward off the tears she felt threatening to come up. "He'd tried to do this before and was caught, this time he was faster and knew more about his gifts. It was easier for him and I should have told him about the dangers of the stone before but I did not think he would…" She stopped and looked up at Marina.

"You should not blame yourself my dear, this was on me and him. I am sorry we pulled you into this." She said seeing through Marina though the girl had not said anything of her feelings of guilt. Holding up the hand she held showing Marina the mark Lyn said, "this mark is going to fade in time but it will always be there. Should we pass this way again he will be at risk. We were lucky. If he had taken it for his own he would have been lost and the rest of us would be in terrible danger. He is stronger than he knows," she paused before adding, "as are you."

Looking back to Edward she backed away as the guys lifted him and carried him to the tents. "He just needs some rest, by morning he'll be right as rain."

---------------

Edward woke with a splitting headache and the disappointed look of his mother. He winced and looked away unable to face her. He knew he'd messed up and he had dragged Marina into it. Normally he would say sorry but that didn't seem to cut it. A frown crossed his face, "where are we?" he asked looking around at the cart that was currently rolling down a path away from the forest. He sat up quickly regretting it immediately when he thought of Marina. "Where's Marina? Is she alright?" He asked unaware she was close.

[spoili]No problem. Confused minds are a PAIN!!! I hope it was alright to skip a bit and put your character in the cart with Edward and Lyn. They are trying to get away from the forest as quickly as possible. No evil Edward!!! I also thought Edward had been asleep for long enough. :) I have no problem with colors in the text, it makes the words pop! I might use them now actually if you don't mind me sneaking your idea. =D[/spoili]

Marina was tucked far into the back of the cart under the actual bench. She stored herself in there to block out the sounds of the road, and to keep herself from eavesdropping. Only able to hear the muffled voices of people, just enough to tell who they were. She tried multiple times to sneak out, but Lyn had been there the entire night and shooed her back inside.

So eventually, Marina gave up on the fifth failure and stashed herself where she was now for the night. And as it was, she was just barely waking herself when she heard a familiar voice.

"Edwar-" Marina quickly sat up, forgetting the cramped space she was in and hit her head against the bottom on the bench and let out a loud curse. Pushing the hay filled blankets out of the way, had to quickly put a hand on the ground to prevent herself from falling completely out. "My heads not..." Placing a hand on her now red forehead for a minute to clear up the dizziness, putting the jokes aside, she quickly crawled over to him. "Are you alright?"

[spoili]Pink! I shall do pink![/spoili]

Edward winced when he heard the 'thunk' of Marina's head hitting the bench. It must have hurt and yet he couldn't help but smile a little at her comment. "I'm fine." He said trying to be reassuring. There were things that were fuzzy about what had happened. From what he remembered Marina had been hurt, he had run home, and the stone had been calling his name. The pull was still there and his eyes shifted briefly to the forest where the song was getting quieter as they left it.

Lyn got in between his line of sight with the forest so he was looking straight at her. "You have made quite a mess of things." She said making Edward look away. He could not look her in the eye. "Look at me when I am talking to you." Her voice had lowered to the one he knew so well. If he did not do as she asked he was going to regret it later. Looking at her he set his jaw and was ready to take whatever punishment she would lay out for him. Taking a deep breath he opened his mouth to say something when Lyn had leaned forward and took him into her arms.

To stunned to speak he wrapped his arms around her and hugged her close for a few seconds before she pulled away. "Never do that to me again do you understand me?" She said using the same tone she used when she got his attention before. He could only nod and give her a small smile. She looked deep into his eyes trying to find any form of humor or sarcasm. Not finding any she nodded her head and let her features soften.

Edward sighed in relief as his attention was drawn to something on his palm. It was the rune, and his heart sank. Though he'd said he was fine he had a sinking feeling. What did happen to him? What if he did something he would regret for the rest of his life. "What did I do? Did I hurt anyone?" He asked looking from Marina to his mother. "I can still hear it, the stone, I…" He was a little upset. By then he should have been able to block out the song of the stone, he should have been back to normal but he still felt…off.

Lyn looked to Marina and sighed. She'd told her everything after she'd gotten the girl to stay in the cart. Back in the early years of the forest a young ruler lived who had tremendous power. He had created a stone that could bend people to his will and once they were marked they would remain his forever. The only catch, if they ever left for at least a month long period they would no longer be under his spell. It wasn't until years later did a solitary traveler break the spell that held the rulers grip on the people.

Not a lot of people knew about it because the traveler and the people who'd been enchanted did not want it to happen again. They hid the stone and had guards placed who were immune to its magical call. Every once in awhile someone would come close to taking the stone, those few who had heard the tails. None of them had been allowed to continue breathing once they were caught. Edward was the first and only one to overcome the stone because of Marina's influence and his, hidden talents.

Marina watched the pair with a pang of guilt. She still felt guilty, even if she wasn't responsible for some of it. Sitting there and waiting for them to finish talking, began going over the next five minutes.

Marina was frightened for him, very frightened. And she knew she would probably fret over him for about a week. It was definitely out of the question that she cared for him, but how much was the actual question. And she needed him now more than ever, and he probably needed her just as much if not than more.

Edwards confusion, and comment about the stone made Marina her whimper before she could do anything to stop it. And soon after is when Lyn turned her gaze toward Marina, which made her think it was heard. Lyn probably knew how Marina felt, having read her like a book since day one. But so far Lyn gave no signs of it, and it was driving Marina insane.

Leaning against the side of the cart, Marina idly fidgeted with her hands, waiting for her chance to speak.

Lyn placed a hand on Edwards and began to tell him all that she had told Marina before. She knew Marina felt guilty and she'd heard the whimper and felt like comforting her but if she did not tend to Edward he might just have a nervous breakdown. She would speak with Marina after, and then everything should be alright, she hoped.

Edward took everything in feeling like a complete idiot but at least he understood now why he had felt those things. To think a man that powerful could do so much with a stone and be defeated by a single man. It was awe-inspiring and he was curious about the rest of the story but his mother would not continue. She told him to rest up a bit more and that she would be back later. Standing awkwardly Lyn went to Marina and placed a hand on her shoulder. "You are a lot braver than you know, and I thank the heavens every day you are in our company." She said with a big smile on her face. Turning to the front of the cart she went to sit with the driver leaving Edward and Marina alone.

He looked at Marina and there was fear, despair, curiosity, apology, and a small bit of hopeful glee mixed all into one. He was a powerhouse of emotions and he felt really, really bad he had dragged Marina into it all. "I never meant to get you into trouble, or to make you feel bad." He said when he finally found his voice. "I only thought it would be fun, something we could laugh about later. Instead…"

He couldn't continue speaking. Pulling his knees to his chest he put his elbows on his hands and cradled his head. He did not realize he was shaking from the effort of trying to reign in all his emotions. "I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm so sorry."

For the second time that week, Marina felt something snap inside of her, and practically tackled Edward to the ground in a slightly violent, but well needed bear hug. "What do you mean you're sorry?! I'm just glad you're here and not back there!"

Just realizing her outburst, Marina quickly got up, face beaming red. "Sorry..." And now it was her turn to cradle her head, but she sat there cross legged. "Last night... I just couldn't stop, I had to find you." Her voice cracked. "All I knew is that it would do something to you, I didn't bother staying to figure out the rest I just went." She was spilling it, whether she liked it or not she couldn't control it. "I tired... So hard to get to you, so hard..." She was loosing it, and had already started crying again, finding it hard to talk but she continued through the sobbing, which slurred some of her words. "You just mean so much to me. I don't care what, or why you did it. But dear spirits, Edward." She looked directly into his eyes "Don't you ever... Put yourself at risk like that again. I just can't..."

Marina's throat pinched, and she had to take a gasping sob. She grounded her eyes to her feet, unable to look at him. She was going to choke herself if she didn't stop, pinching the base of her nose, tried to keep herself from doing just that.

[spoili]I just thought of something... What if Marina had asthma? That could lead to some interesting things! >w<

Also, I didn't say you couldn't use the coloring idea. o-e I don't mind, and I actually encourage it if you'd like. It does make it more easier, and it's not even my idea to claim. >w< I just saw somebody doing it and I thought "Why not?"[/spoili]
