Lauren placed the flowers carefully on top of the drawers and then happily took Anderson's gentlemanly arm and let him escort her out of the house. She felt pampered and appreciated, which was an unfamiliar experience for her. She couldn't remember the last time she had actually been spoiled like this. She couldn't say it was an unpleasant feeling, but part of her did feel a bit bad that someone was spending so much money on her.

But she didn't say that, because she didn't want to ruin their date. "I'm sure I'll love it," she said honestly, standing on the tips of her toes to press a kiss to his cheek.

When they arrived at the restaurant, Lauren liked it immediately. She loved learning about new cultures, and she loved Asian food, so why wouldn't she like this place? She couldn't stop smiling as they entered and were subsequently escorted to their table. She sat across from Anders and politely asked for a glass of raspberry soda when the waitress came to take their drink orders. When she left, Lauren turned to her boyfriend with a bright smile on her face.

"I love this,"
she said happily. "When we lived in New Orleans" -- due to her accent, the name sounded like Norlands, "-- and I had money, I would just sometimes go to restaurants by myself, and there was a Japanese place not too far from my school that gave you little origami placemats, it was really sweet."

Lauren's smile and clear contentment left Anders's himself very gratified. He was able to relax into his seat, worrying less about his pick. Though, he knew Lauren would have been pleased with even the most simple places like a pizza joint he still wanted to take her to nicer places. Why? Because she deserved that much and more even if she didn't know it yet. Anders was determined to show that she was worth more than what she perceived herself to be. Hopefully, she wouldn't think she was too good for him one day, despite the fact that she very much was.

A soft chuckle fell from the dark haired boy's lips during her story. He wasn't laughing at her, his laugh was obviously one of endearment. Anders had always found Southern accents charming and his opinion of them was no different when hearing Lauren's. Well, no, that was not at all true. He found his girlfriend's especially cute, more so when she talked happily.

"That is sweet. It reminds me of when I lived back in New York, there was a Chinese restaurant nearby Georgina's boyfriend's house." Anders grinned seeing they had a similarity in their past besides ... He continued. "They gave away free fortune cookies, and I would sit outside for hours, chomping on cookies and reading those silly slips of papers ... " He paused, tracing the rim of his cold glass of water. Maybe he shouldn't have brought that up at all. Lauren didn't know who Georgina was and it wasn't a very happy time in his life.

The brunette sighed lightly and took a sip of his water to wash away the troublesome thoughts in his mind. Instead, he changed the subject. "I wonder if they give out origami placemats here. If not, you are still in luck." A proud smirk crept onto his face, replacing his smile that had became dim. "Your boyfriend is an origami master. You'll fall for me ten times as hard once you see my paper folding skills." He winked flirtatiously.

Lauren couldn't help but wonder who Georgina was and why Anderson clearly thought he shouldn't have mentioned her. She bit her lip, worried for him. Evidently, the memories of this woman weren't good ones.

This just reminded Lauren that they didn't know much at all about each other's pasts. There was still so much she had to learn about Anderson, and there was still a lot he had to learn about her. There would be things that both of them didn't want the other to know, but if they were to have a purely open relationship, they had to unload it all.

But now was not the time to do so. A waitress soon came and Lauren ordered a sushi platter for herself. When she left with Anders' order as well, Lauren turned to her boyfriend with a bright smile, determined to pick back up the mood of the dinner.

"Even if they don't have the placemats, we should get some origami paper somewhere and you should show off your sick skills."

"That," Anders' smirk grew into more of a gentle smile as he leaned forward in his seat, "is a good idea. Of course, I expect nothing short from the likes of the beautiful and intelligent Lauren Winter." The brunette leaned forward, resting his elbow on the table and his cheek into his hand. The look he gave Lauren was one of adoration, he didn't have to feign it for that was exactly one of the many feelings he felt about her. The other feelings he would be more hesitant to say out loud, such as the fact that perhaps he "loved" her. It was such a strong, raw and dangerous feeling he couldn't say it to her without feeling very confident. Why? Because if Anders wasn't absolutely sure, he could break her heart and he would hate himself for it. She was unlike any other girl he dated, kind, quiet and sweet.

Lauren deserved better. She deserved better than anything that life handed her., including him. However, he knew that from the moment he asked her out. That was also the moment he was determined to be better so that maybe one day he could be the boy she deserved. Because Lauren Winter was the type of girl who made you want to be a better person.

"Name anything that you want me to make and consider it done." His free hand picked at the napkin on the table as he spoke. His fingers had a habit of fidgeting. They always had to be busy doing one thing or another when they weren't pressing down on the black and white keys of a piano. "I'll look up the patterns online if I have to." Thank God for the internet.

His bright blue eyes only looked away from the blonde beauty with the waitress returned with their food, Lauren's sushi platter and his bowl of ramen. He tipped the waitress with ten dollar bill and a smile even before he picked up his chopsticks and dug into his meal. "I wanted to ask, how are you settling in?" It had only been a few weeks since she had been living with them and her comfort was Anders utmost importance. "I know my parents can be weird," he mumbled, but then again, weren't all parents? They were only doubly embarrassing to Anders when Lauren was around.

What had Lauren ever done to deserve someone as kind as sweet as Anderson Hickory? He was just such a lovely boy, and Lauren had nothing but affection and adoration for him. It was even nearing the love zone, something that was simultaneously terrifying and exciting. She didn't know how to articulate or deal with those emotions, however, so instead, she chose to keep them a secret from her boyfriend for now.

Their food arrived and it looked delicious. Lauren smiled softly when Anders tipped the waitress before he even tried his food. He was such a sweet guy. Of course, like everyone else, he had some issues, but those were issues Lauren was willing to help him work around. He had done so much for her, it was the least she could do to return the favour.

"Everything is wonderful, Anders, I can't thank you guys enough for doing this,"
Lauren answered when he asked her how she was faring in their household. She had quite literally no complaints about what was going on. She was just grateful to even have a place to stay, a roof over her head, somewhere she could exist in where she wasn't constantly fearing her father's violent fist. She was just eternally thankful to the whole Hickory family for having extended to her this courtesy and allowed her that kind of security.

It was incredible, and they were all beautiful people.

"You really don't have to thank us," Anders smiled sheepishly, picking up the chopsticks that he would most likely switch out for a fork eventually. "We're just glad to have you here with us, safe, happy, incredibly pretty and with me. Well, I am especially glad about those last two." His smile grew a bit wider as he finished and took the first bite of his meal. He almost hissed at how hot his noodles were, but instead only winced slightly. Anders wasn't exactly one to be patient enough to wait for the food to cool off, he was too impatient, more so when it came to eating. Yet, that was simply one of his many flaws that he claimed to be nonexistent.
"Besides, you make like it now, because everyone has been on their best behavior, but you'll probably hate it later." He sighed deeply, ever so exasperated with the tiring people that were his family. "Mom's cooking is a death trap, dad is such a major dork and Jenna is a snitch. Not to mention she always bangs on my door to keep it down whenever I'm practicing the piano. Then again, I do sometimes play early in the morning." And by early he meant two o'clock early. It was a bad habit, whenever he had a nightmare, which was often, he itched to play the piano.
Leaning his head to the side slightly, Anders smile softened. "You're basically an angel to us all. But I wonder ..." The innocent smile grew mischievous and his voice playful. "What types of quirks do my dear Lauren have? You can 'fess up now. I'll eventually find out anyway."
