Stellar Empires 5; An Age Anew. (NATION RP)

  • So many newbies lately! Here is a very important PSA about one of our most vital content policies! Read it even if you are an ancient member!

Quick question, do the species such as Bovine, Ursine etc have to be built in the same way as their art in the rules, or can they be more humanoid facially?
.

Species like the Bovine, Ursine or the likes, do represent more those species, something that is more humanoid comes under the humanoid category :p It's not an exact science however so long as they're still fairly easy to keyhole into that race it's ok.

Finally done! Not my best post, but I just wanted to start off already and I did not want to be left behind.
.

No probs, it's a good post. Rayasve's an interesting character too.

Just to keep the hype train for this going while we all wait about, here's the Grom Matriarchy's take on the galaxy and politics in general. Feel free to listen to this track to enhance your reading experience.

Lots of love from the squirrel girls next door. :smooch:

System Name: The Discovering Player may name a system if it has no inhabiting intelligent species. Otherwise, the inhabiting intelligent species' name is used instead. (Subject to approval!) The names will not be reflected on the map, but will be added to the excel sheet.

Planet Name: A planet is NOT named by the systems discoverer! While a system will bear the name given to it by it's explorer, a habitable world is ONLY named by the person who colonises it!

GM CAUTIONARY: You do not have control or authority over a system until you plonk a colony down on it ;)

Oh them Scarazars about to catch these hands.

Ooh, Exploration! Some thoughts/questions:

V: Huh, this place looks nice to colonize actually, what do the planetary rings do? For that matter how would we colonize in the roleplay? Just say that the nation is sending colony ships to the planet or something? I suppose I'd better take a look at those ancient ruins too. Also does the place become yours right when you ship lands, or is there a window of time where it's just an unnamed outpost (i.e. my Anti-Expansionist would make this stupid slow).

XV: ...I'm gonna hazard a guess that the Electromagnetic Storms here are very bad for me and my robut pals. Is there a way to like build a military colony or something so that people don't just colonize it and attack me with it?

XXIV: Hey a GM race! The name even sounds like it might be an AI + Religious faction so that's cool. Could be wrong though. Only thing is, how do you determine what info you have at first? For instance, for planet XLIII it says they'll attack anyone (presumably) on sight, but on mine it just gives demographic information. Reason I ask is because if these guys end up having the Religiously Intolerant trait I might be screwed when I contact them.

XXXIX: More ruins yay! I'm gonna have to get some explorers to get all the secrets...just make sure you guys don't touch anything that'll release a horrible Cosmic Abomination on my butt. That would be bad.

Aside from that, I should have The Veil, Part 2 up today. I'll start working on it real soon.

.

To answer your questions.

1: Creating a colony is as simple as sending the colony ship yes, on landing it's a frontier world for the next 12 months IC normally (Though non-expansionistic will slow this a while) before it becomes a productive world.

2: Planetary Rings look mighty pretty. They also have a percentage of base metals and ice.

3: The planet becomes claimed as soon as you get a colony ship onto the surface.

4: Electromagnetic storms would be bad yes :p not great for normal folk either, almost no transmissions are possible from such a world. You'd need to plant a colony there to claim it however.

5: The Database is simply raw data. The GM post will give out all the data actually available. (For example, the attack on sight you noticed will be demonstrated by them attacking the explorers :p)

6: Don't include exploration into Part2 :p The GM post will include most of the data you need :p

  • Like
Reactions: Helios
I know that the Non-Expansionistic flaw takes a long time colonize a planet.

However, how long will it take?

I obviously need to make a post. Thanks Kad, for doing as I asked. I have all day tomorrow off, so, plenty of time for Stellar Empires. Won't leave you hanging.

6: Don't include exploration into Part2 :p The GM post will include most of the data you need :p
Wasn't planning to. What I was planning was to have it up before now but that's neither here nor there.

Either way, if anyone near me wants to plot fun plot twists and stuff please PM me. :)

all done
Only three VIPs, everyone else in the board is not as important. :V

My post is complete...okay I think I may have gone a wee bit overboard with this one, but hopefully it provides some insight into the culture if nothing else.

Now to plot my takeover of the galaxy! Today the stock market, tomorrow the galaxy!

Before I head off to bed. I better post some snippets from a chat with Brovo.

Brovo: Electromagnetic storms.
Brovo: How bad are those?
Kadaeux: Very Bad if you happen to be flying through one.
Kadaeux: During an electromagnetic storm, communication becomes impossible, unshielded equipment may be completely fucked, anyone unfortunate enough to be airborne is going to rediscover gravity sooner than later etc.
Kadaeux: But they're not "suddenly A STORM!"
Kadaeux: There is generally advance warning.
Brovo: How long do they last?
Brovo: Cuz' I'm trying to figure out if they're "fuck it, deal broken" type issues.
Brovo: Like XXVIII's moon has both electromagnetic storms and heavy volcanism.
Brovo: That may legit be a "fuck it not worth it" planet.
Kadaeux: At worst, a few weeks, generally, a few days.
Brovo: Are they planetwide or in pockets?
Kadaeux: But EMStorms are comparable to super-sized hurricanes in scale.

Brovo: How long does travel take to these systems btw?
Kadaeux: A matter of days, the "exploring" part is what takes the most time. (System surveys, etc)
Brovo: How bad is a reducing atmosphere?
Brovo: Like how fast are we talking here? :p
Kadaeux: Mars level.
Kadaeux: Intervention with the right tech can arrest it.
Brovo: Well.
Brovo: To fix the Mars issue.
Kadaeux: Mars' problem is it's EM field.
Brovo: Greenhouse effect and magnetic shield.
Brovo: Yeah.
Kadaeux: You need to kickstart the core
Brovo: Can I do that?
Kadaeux: In time yes.
Kadaeux: Right at the start, no.
Brovo: Alright, and how fast is this effect? :p
Kadaeux: Depends on how fast your science advances :p
Kadaeux: Heating up the core to kickstart it would take a Mega-structure level endeavour.
Brovo: So basically terraforming.
Kadaeux: But if you were lucky enough to find an advanced tech, you could feasibly just build artificial stations to harden it without all that fuss.
Brovo: As in, legit terraforming.
Kadaeux: Yup

Brovo: And Volcanism?
Kadaeux: Volcanism, well that can be bad.
Kadaeux: We're not talking Mercury level bad.
Kadaeux: But Pre-history volcanism levels. That the dinosaurs were used to.

Also, as I mentioned to Brovo. We do not have FTL Communications. It may be discovered or traded for later, but we don't start with it.

Brovo: Which direction is the galactic core?
Brovo: For directional purposes.
Brovo: So new orders don't have to be "go south."
Brovo: :p
Kadaeux: *That way*
Kadaeux: :p
Kadaeux: Corewards can be considered to the 'south'
Kadaeux: (South of the map I mean)
Kadaeux: East is "Spinward"

(Ergo "North" is rimward, west is counter-Spinward.)

WIP in regards to flavour, but all calculations/traits done.

Bovine: Sturdy, Agricultural, Tasty, Slow to Act.

The Yennok are a bovine people that developed on the rolling fertile plains of Yenfife's largest central continent. Their stage as hunter/gatherers was seemingly short, the plentiful land that early crop forms, as well as fruit and other edible vegetation, had already flourished across providing easy impetus for agricultural development to begin. Henceforth however, development was slow. With few natural threats, many of the grazing animals of the planet had grown fat and slow, easy prey for the omnivorous Yennok to supplement their diets, equally, with such large spaces of viable land, conflict between the tribes of Yennok was rare. It was only due to the population of the people exploding that conflict arose and thus the grind of progress began.

While clearly bovine, with horns, tails and hooves, the Yennok bare some resemblance to humanoids, their tell-tale bovine snouts have reduced to square noses, separating as features from their mouths. Still, the majority of the population also bears considerably more muscle and/or fat than the average humanoid, the Yennok's natural build and desired characteristics largely consisting of well-built males and curvaceous females. The average Yennok will eat many times that of a humanoid as their daily intake, a fact that would likely cause many goods shortages were they not blessed with an abundant homeworld. Never the less, with powerful builds, when brought to anger, the Yennok make fierce warriors. (Anime-style overly gratuitous appearance guide; here).

[BCOLOR=transparent]The Iona System[/BCOLOR]

[BCOLOR=transparent]Iona is a Sun much like Sol, appearing slightly larger in the sky of Yenfife simply because the planet is closer. The system is made up of Seven planets, four rock and three gas giants. The two closest planets to the Sun, Gemnos and Krenon, named after twin gods of an ancient pantheon, are little more than scorched rocks, have symmetrical orbits of the star. Yenfife, and its sister planet, Yfiel, sit further out, the latter closer to the star, is a greenhouse planet of hellish climate (but, appears a brilliant shimmering purple from space), much like Yenfife in its initial greenhouse period. The planet which gives its name to the Consulate, is a habitable paradise, comprising of one greater continent and three lesser ones. The continents are all, at this stage of the tectonic pattern, separated by Ulara, the Great Ocean, and thus have very distinct ecosystems.Yenfife has two moons, Ulon and Cires, the latter being smaller and further out. The Gas Giants are separated from the rock by a sparse asteroid belt. Heagon, Gerix, and Trenor, with Gerix the largest, bigger than the other pair combined, bears shimmering technicolour rings.[/BCOLOR]

Post up. First contact went along the lines of "lol let's kidnap some industrial age space bugs." Fucking curiosity. Kad will get additional events up later for everyone else when he's not dead tired. He's working his ass off for y'all.

I also updated my character sheet to include fleet command. I decided to go one step above and beyond @FrostedCamel in both naming ships, showing fleet compositions, orders, and political affiliations. Because obviously, the Republic must be more sophisticated than some space bugs, right? :ferret:

  • This is the total fleet size of the Republic, and the names of each vessel within the Republic. Individual fleet commands will get their own tabs, being formed and disbanded as necessary. Individual ships have captains, and those captains have political affiliations. Both the Senate and Emperor factions keep tabs on which captains align with which factions, as those captains are more likely to obey orders accordingly. (ex: The Veritas is an Emperor-aligned vessel, and will typically take the Emperor's orders over the Senate's orders in cases of conflicting loyalties.) The only exception is, of course, in war, when fleet command falls exclusively under the Emperor's control, so as to allow maximum efficiency to protect the Republic.

Unassigned vessels should be assumed to be at space dock or in orbit of Patriam.

"GRP" is shorthand for "Great Republic of Patriam." It's the designation for any military vessel in service to the Republic.

Dreadnaughts: The heart and soul of the fleet. These juggernauts handily tank nuclear devices to the face and keep going. They may as well be small continents unto themselves, though they're extremely expensive to construct. They are staffed by the finest crews available to the Republic. It takes a significant effort to destroy one.
    • GRP Veritas (Emperor aligned)
    • GRP Venture (Republic aligned)

Battleships: Less expensive versions of Dreadnaughts. These vessels are also made to take a pounding, though not quite to the level of Dreadnaughts. They serve primarily as command vessels in smaller fleets, as senior, well trained, and restrained officers are usually present aboard these vessels. They're less likely to commit to acts of Space Darwinism than, say, the more junior officers of Frigate class vessels.
    • GRP Euritide (Emperor Aligned) (En Route to Charlie.)
    • GRP Frontier (Republic Aligned)
    • GRP War Hound (Emperor Aligned)

Escort Carriers: Takes the concept of aircraft superiority to space. Their entire objective is to serve as anti-fighter escorts. In fleet actions, to protect the larger vessels, and in scout missions, to utilize their gunships to explore more dangerous territory that scout probes can't handle, or where it would be inappropriate to send a probe. They are captained by more junior officers, who lust for the great unknown.
    • GRP Zynk (Republic Aligned) (Assigned: Beta Fleet.)
    • GRP Typhoon (Emperor Aligned) (Assigned: Alpha Fleet.)
    • GRP Volition (Emperor Aligned) (Assigned: Delta Fleet.)
    • GRP Rebrum (Emperor Aligned) (Assigned: Charlie Fleet.)

Frigates: The runts of the litter in most respects. They are captained by novice crews, sometimes with a few veterans aboard to maintain important tasks. They're typically the stations by which young and upcoming officers attempt to prove their worth to obtain a higher station, and as such, their prone both to a natural ideological curiosity of the universe, and a deep rooted desire to prove their worth to the Emperor, and to the Republic.
    • GRP Ignis (Republic Aligned) (Assigned: Alpha Fleet.)
    • GRP Scintilla (Republic Aligned)
    • GRP Indignatio (Emperor Aligned) (Assigned: Alpha Fleet.)
    • GRP Locus (Republic Aligned) (Assigned: Delta Fleet.)

    • GRP Agile (Emperor Aligned) (En Route to Beta.)
    • GRP Spinis (Republic Aligned)
    • GRP Democratia (Republic Aligned) (En Route to Beta.)
    • GRP Ferrum Pugnus (Emperor Aligned)
    • GRP Lamina (Emperor Aligned)
    • GRP Fortis (Republic Aligned) (Assigned: Charlie Fleet.)
    • GRP Sagi Alterius Mors (Emperor Aligned) (En Route to Delta)
    • GRP Fidus Lupus (Emperor Aligned)
    • GRP Verum (Republic Aligned) (En Route to Delta)
    • GRP Nobilis (Emperor Aligned)

Colony Ships: They spread the Republic's seed of enlightenment all over the galaxy!... Why are you looking at me like that?
    • GRP Vita (Non-Aligned) (En Route to Alpha)
    • GRP Salutem (Non-Aligned) (En Route to Beta)
    • GRP Perge Cogitans (Non-Aligned) (En Route to Delta)
    • GRP Libertatem (Republic Aligned) (En Route to Charlie)
  • Sector: Clara Spes (XLI)
Orders: Hold Position, guard habitable planet.
Fleet Composition: Small fleet, designed to scout. They'll engage in conflict if necessary, but will always choose to retreat rather than suffer losses over neutral territory, and regroup with a larger fleet elsewhere.

At least we don't have to worry about the space locust going our way. :v
@Kadaeux waiting for decision.

Pre-Warning: The GM post will start off seemingly really detailed. Then I realised, it's easier just to post the interesting details only glossed over in the spreadsheet :p
