And so our travelers moved out, following the trail. Angus had taken the time to arrange with the shopkeeper protective gear in the form of warm jackets and goggles. 'Snow flare' was his concise reason, but it turned out to be a good idea. Moving off as the storm continued, eventually the party came to a pass....Where a body in the middle of it, buried up to his hand would be seen.

It was their only warning as the snow burst out from the sides and the roars of Grimm echoed out.

Creeps. Lots of them.

A little hampered by the snow, but not so much as they charged across the snow at the party.

"Dammit, should have bought some of those snow tires..."

Lavi grumbled out as she pushed Arachne onward through the snowy plains, struggling to get its legs out of the snow as she went. Normally, the spider wouldn't have any sort of trouble traveling such terrain, but that assumed it was not purposefully being slowed by its master herself to keep close to the group. With the lack of the bounding and speedy motion it was normally used to, the weight of the behemoth was causing its legs to sink with the extra time spent with each step.

"If anyone wants hot cocoa, I'm pretty sure I can rig something up in here..."

The offer was more to take her mind off the arduous process she was enduring, but it was at least there for the others. She felt sorry for them as they also climbed through the snow. Unlike her, they did not have personal heaters and quilts to keep warm through this climb, and she couldn't fit them in with her. Well, maybe one or two if they're flexible... Or maybe I can build some personal heaters for them to take on missions?

Wait, what the hell is that?

The perplexed expression that went along with that question was replaced by a vicious smile as she realized the source of the howling. With a twist of her wrists, her precious baby was once again on top of the snow and would no longer sink as it did not have to slow itself for the others.

"Come on, lets take these Creeps out! We've got a test to finish!"

Darting forward through the snow, Arachne swerved about as it began to spray the beasts with small caliber rounds. It wasn't much if any damage, however, the goal of being a distraction was hopefully being accomplished as she attempted to keep the beasts' eyes on her. The others could take the opportunity at any moment to deliver the blows needed to kill the bastards; she was having too much fun playing her part.

Well, then. Rachel looked around and decided that trying to cause confusion in the attackers ranks might work, and so used Lilac Lash to launch a barrage of missiles. She knew they did little damage individually, so what she did was target an area right in front of where they were charging, causing fairly large holes in the snow pack, hopefully dumping a couple of them into the pit she created. Either way, her second missile barrage would target the pit, hopefully there would be a creep or two in the pit to get hit point blank by a full barrage.

"Huh..."

Cillian had been quiet for most of the walk and for good reason! He'd been told that he was slightly goth! Gosh, he'd never even seen himself in that kinda light before but maybe she was onto something. When two comets or something met then he'd be awakened. Maybe he'd just have to wait for that day to come and bare fruit for his gothness. In the meantime he supposed it didn't hurt thinking it over! He already tended to wear dark colors because he felt it'd be more intimidating to bad folks.

But perhaps that was the key to it all! He didn't think he acted very goth. But maybe he had to become friends with one to be able to truly get into that kinda mindset! As a matter of fact it was only when the Creeps appeared that Cillian's train of thought was disrupted and for the first time since he had met the others? Cillian didn't seem too happy.

"Now, that wasn't very nice at all. Goin and disrupting a fella's train of thought like that..."

Tendrils seeped out from underneath Cillian's shadow and smashed into nearby rocks within the snow. Reducing them to little more than bits of pebbles which fell right near the scarecrow's feet. But he wasn't just about to take his mild annoyance out on just the area around him. He'd take it out on the doggone creatures who had disrupted his thinking time! The darkness rapidly expanded outwards. Making sure to segway at certain points so the others wouldn't have to worry about getting sucked into it themselves.

sWUKlj0.jpg

As the Creeps charged in and the darkness spread under them, they'd feel their claws seeping into the smoke like substance. Almost like quicksand in that regard but while for the most part quicksand did it's thing without much else to offer and the same could usually be said for Cillian's darkness. But not this time, not today. They had gone and interrupted him while he was in the midst of thinking about his potential goth-ness and these fellas had to come and mess it up.

Closing his hand into a fist, Cillian watched as darkness seemed to seep out from within his hand as he frowned behind his mask. Even when annoyed, Cillian wasn't one to get too worked up over slights against him. That was of course verbally speaking. Physically was another matter entirely. Tendrils lashed out from various points of the darkness to wrap around the Creeps and try to pull them deeper and deeper within the darkness. Only this time they'd never get out unlike the last Grimm who had managed to escape to the cold hands of death after he released it.

Ervin Douglas

@C.T. @Ringmaster @Schnee Corp Lawyer @OrlandoBloomers @Michale CS @The Tactician @Ringmaster @Chewy Rabbits @Hospes @LuckycoolHawk9

Ervin had been keeping his eye out for any animateable objects on the ground as he traveled, it was only natural seeing as they were following the trail of a likely threat. Soon enough, as they stumbled across a body, buried in the snow, save for their hand, instantly, he drew his twin furies, scanning his surroundings, and sure enough, there they came... A horde of creeps, though they were hampered by the snow a little, Ervin knew he didn't have much time.

Outside the safety of the Kingdoms, even the slightest hint of negative emotion can attract the attention of a deadly horde of Grimm, and even the smallest moment of hesitation can be a deah sentence.

Carefully beginning to concentrate, he aimed to attempt to animate any objects found underneath the snow, whether they were viable weapons or not was of no concern... His semblance was a strange one, but it certainly had it's fair share of use, and in this case, any animateable objects he was able to bring to life, even for the moment, would grow arms and legs temporarily, focusing their efforts on further hampering the creeps that stepped over them in the snow.

In the meantime, Ervin leapt into action, since he was multitasking a little by sustaining the animation of possibly multiple objects, he was keen on keeping his distance and firing away at the horde of Creeps, making sure to keep turning every now and then in an attempt to keep his own back covered. Sure, he had company to help look out for him, but old instincts from having traveled out on his own seemed to be at work here.

"If anyone wants hot cocoa, I'm pretty sure I can rig something up in here..."
"I think that's the most h-h-homely thing I've ever h-h-heard."

Morgan chattered out through the chill, managing to do a remarkable job keeping her gloomy intones intact despite the shivering effects of the cold. Whether that was meant as a compliment, insult or simply a statement towards Lavi was anyone's guess. Making her way to the village was one thing, but outside of a coat and the extra stuff Angus had distributed her style of dress wasn't exactly ideal for deep-wilderness blizzard traversal; But at least the frost made her skin look paler.

When they reached the mountain pass and were confronted with a frozen corpse, followed summarily by a pack of Creeps looking for their next kills, the gothic's first reaction was a little different to most of the others' as she took one look at the environmental factors ,held up a hand, exhaled out with another shiver and spoke.

"Wait. Cautionary tale. The dead man sings a song of his fate. It's saying don't get too zealous, don't do anything to disrupt the balance, don't bring down an a-a-"
Darting forward through the snow, Arachne swerved about as it began to spray the beasts with small caliber rounds.

"-avalanche."

By the time she said the words it was too late for them to be of consequence to anyone. She had no expertise in crossing mountains of any kind, but a hunch was a powerful thing. Deciding to trade words with action, she strode briskly forward as soon as there was an opening in the group's ranged bombardments, walking straight for any Grimm that might've spotted her and drawing the hefty sword from her back with one clean movement. Its jagged blade glowed purple with the burning of dust, she lightly swiped upwards through the snow mounds at her feet and a cloud of snow and ice kicked up in a sudden onset provided by vastly compounded gravity, timed for the exact moment the charging Grimm were carried into the zone of frost and obscured vision by their momentum as she abruptly tensed and dashed in from the opposite side. A moment later she came out the other end with a fresh layer of snow dusting her shoulders and crown, already sheathing her blade again as if nothing had happened within, the snow cloud dissipating to briefly reveal the neatly dismembered bodies of the ill-fated grimm before those too disappeared.

With that dealt with, her next course of action was to gracefully step straight for the side of the valley where it rose up into rockey slopes above, tilting her narrowed eyes upward for the nearest visible peak where she anticipated the first signs of an encroaching onslaught of snow might show if it was coming as one hand grasped the hilt of her weapon. Her back was turned on the rest of the fight, meaning if another grimm decided she was its target there was nothing she could do to keep from being pounced on, but she obviously expected the others to handle that. She looked prepared to do something at a moment's notice if she spied even the vaguest tumbling of sleet over the rocky cliffs. It just wasn't clear what.

Ella had been nowhere to be seen when the rest of the party left out into the storm. Whether the absence of her taciturn stare was noted by any of them was likely questionable, but even when combat broke out and the creeps and hunters-in-training-to-be crashed into each other, the girl didn't show. Maybe she really did leave straight for Valhalla.

...Which she had, at first. But something one of the others had said had before she left been floating in the back of her mind. Something seemed off now that she thought about it. The town, the attack, Valhallla... So instead she had turned back and quietly trailed after the others, curious to see where there tracking would take them and to what end. She'd been intent keeping that course of action actually. Just following and observing.

Except... what was this other girl doing?
With that dealt with, her next course of action was to gracefully step straight for the side of the valley where it rose up into rockey slopes above, tilting her narrowed eyes upward for the nearest visible peak where she anticipated the first signs of an encroaching onslaught of snow might show if it was coming as one hand grasped the hilt of her weapon. She looked prepared to do something at a moment's notice if she spied even the vaguest tumbling of sleet over the rocky cliffs. It just wasn't clear what.
Ella frowned from where she was in the snow drifts a ways back, white hair drifting to match the icy flakes in the wind. She raised her rifle slightly. Sure, the other girl was surrounded by the other prospects, but they were all dealing with their own bits of the horde. Trusting them with her back when they'd gotten no experience working as a unit was foolhardy. Well, maybe the fact that she now seemed so unthreatening would deter the creeps to the other students-

No. No there were two running at her already.

Ella made a slightly discontented hum as she raised her rifle. It was one thing to consider someone else's problem their own problem, even if the problem was violent raiders. Ella's initial train of thought before her suspicions had been that Valhalla was probably way better equipped to deal with the problem anyways, so why not go there first? But it was another thing entirely to just sit and observe from a relative safe distance as a potential schoolmate got mauled. Ella's eyes glowed slightly as she took her aim. The sides of her vision lit up with stats.
>Range, 362.4, 363.7 meters
>OSP: Vitals above leg T1
>PSS:97%

A bright spiral of purple energy suddenly lit up across the valley from back the way they'd come. It bored a hole through one creep just above its leg and pierced through to split the mask of another behind it and leave its neck a burning stump before both bodies crashed to the ground mid charge and began to dissipate. A small trough of lightly melted snow was left in the aftermath that was quickly being refilled by the storm, and Ella quietly stood and shifted position from where she had been.

Her lip curled slightly as she took in all the weapons and attacks of her fellow would-be huntsman and huntresses. Some stood out as flashy to the point they could have easily been part of some concert or cinematic special effects. Others that were less cool but no less practical. If anything, they seemed more effective. All of their weapons committed to memory alongside (most) of their names. Just in case. They were all combat capable to have come this far, but they were still students. Chances were that one or two of them would be rooted out permanently in this, or the tests to come. Not that she wished it, but it was the life they chose. Full of risk.

The fall of Beacon Academy stood as an infamous example of that. Headmaster Ozpin, the staff of Beacon Academy trained and experienced, every student that studied there, a lot of other students from the other academies there for the Vytal Festival, a contingent of Atlas's military forces and more. Still they lost. Idly she wondered what weapons she could have gained by being there. Thoughts that only lasted for a few split-seconds as some of the Creeps closed in on her specifically. Aven just stood ramrod straight, waiting for them to make the first move.

Their growling and snarls echoed amongst each other, almost as if they were determining among themselves which one would charge in first. Almost. Finally one did, sprinting forward from the left. The weapon she had summoned earlier slid back into existence in short order, the purple and black glow reflecting in her eyes. At the absolute last possible second, she lashed out with the double sided staff to sever the Creep's unarmored legs in one fell swoop. Before it could fall to the ground, her free left hand's palm pushed against the crest of bony armor on its face, sending it backwards with almost casual ease.

It faded away in mid-air, bits and pieces floating up into the wind and soon enough they had vanished as well. She stood perfectly straight once more, staff held firmly behind her back in a reverse grip, just waiting for another to move in.

They all did. Even mindless beasts realize the advantage of numbers. Aven exhaled slowly, dropping into a better stance...and lashed out at blinding speeds, almost supernaturally swift even to those who could easily deflect bullets at close range.

When the last Grimm by her began to fade, so did her weapon. She returned to her idle thoughts, this time wondering if even Grimm felt fear of any kind. The fear of death, perhaps, as many humans do. Even more than pain itself in some cases, something she always found strange. Life hurts significantly more than death ever does. At the crux of death, the pain ceases.

Let's go ahead and get one thing straight. Midna was not the type for idle small talk, and she made a point of keeping a bit of distance from the group. Not only did she know full well that she wasn't exactly the best when it came to people, but she also preferred to keep on top of things, and by staying a tiny bit ahead of the group, she found it safe to occasionally sniff at the air more deeply. And eventually, Lavi's 'homely' offer of hot cocoa lost to her care, she realized something was off. The chill that wracked her body of a measly 5'4" made her shiver as she cautiously reached for her weapon. Something definitely wasn't right, and this was only reconfirmed when they stumbled upon the body.

There was no chance to even say a prayer for the poor soul before they revealed themselves.

No time was wasted in unleashing the flames upon a Creep that had just pounced upon her, though this was only to serve as a distraction to the beast while she shifted the forms of one of her flamethrowers to it's sickle state. As soon as this was done, she performed a running dive, managing to slide right under the beast(with the help of the snow sinkong beneath her as she did so) and narrowly escape it's lash out. As she slide, she hooked the sickle at the start of the thing's neck, pulling it though all the way down til the end of it's belly. A silent prayer and apology ran through her mind, but it concluded as fast as it had formed. Much like the Creep's life. This tactic was repeated numerous times, leaving a handful of the Creeps eliminated by the time she was done.

With that finished, she leapt out of her little patch of snow, annoyed with the fact that her cloak was now soaking from the snow she'd melted by using her flamethrower. Admittedly, liking the cold or not, it wasn't pleasant. Especially since wet clothes were clingy clothes, and she had a tail she was concealing. But, more pressing matters. For example, the darkly dressed girl from before that was even harder to read than most people. She was facing the mountain with her back turned to the beasts, seeming as though either completely oblivious or completely uncaring. Grimm were at her back, but it appeared that Midna didn't need to intervene. Ella had it covered, which left Midna to glance to the rest of her 'peers', tense and ready to leap if any of them needed help.

Closing his hand into a fist, Cillian watched as darkness seemed to seep out from within his hand as he frowned behind his mask. Gunfire and rockets and all manner of weapons lit up the pass, the Creeps coming in hordes as they were cut down or blasted by the future of Erebor.

They came in masses in a frontal assault or leaped out from the snow to the sides.

And when they ran into Angus, he would be waiting for them. There was no real style to his attacks. No methodical, chess-like mastery of moves some fighters were known for. It was brutal and bestial in a way to suggest that the sword was not so much a tool as it was part of him.

And when the last Creep near him fell, Angus would crush its skull beneath his boot with an expression on his face far too impassive for someone who had been fighting.

And then the following occurred.

There was a reason that Angus had kept to hand-to-hand only, Headhunter returning to its sheath as he flicked the blood off and looked up at the mountain. There was a crack...Aided by the noise, but not entirely. Their fight hadn't woke up the mountain.

It had woke something else.

And as the snow began to crumble and come down in waves towards the Hunters and Huntresses, glimpses of something dark and massive were seen in bits and pieces.

Almost as though it was swimming in the snow fall.

"Run."

There were several choices available. To make a dash to the end of the pass- It was further, but the trail was there. Or they could go back- But run a risk of losing the thieves trail once they backtracked.

These were the most obvious choices.

But what will you do?

Oh for fu--

No time was wasted, not a single second. Midna knew how precious the thing was, and it wasn't going to go to waste on her watch.. no pun intended. As soon as the sound was heard, she did a small jump, landing safely. But not on the ground, no siree. In fact, her feet didn't even graze the snow again. Sorry, Katrina and the Waves, but she wasn't walking on sunshine. Rather, it was more like moonshine, and she was riding it. It was a bit of a pain to use her semblance during the day, and took a small toll, but like hell was she going to lose this trail!

"Does anyone require a lift? This'll be faster," she stated simply.

"I'm good, but anyone can hop on Arachne and ride with me to victory!"

Lavi wasn't going to lose the trail of the thieves. She wasn't afraid of anything, Grimm or human, and her robot was an extension of her will; it would carry her through any storm at all, rain, snow, or hail. With that mind, she gave the others a small moment to hop onto Arachne before bursting forward into another mad dash of recklessness.

One way or another, they were going to reach the end of the pass without any fear in their hearts.

Erwin didn't waste a second, even with his life at stake, he was determined to stick to the trail by heading to the end of the pass. Taking advantage of Midna's semblance, and at the same time, hoping to provide some covering fire, he appeared to be riding on moonshine with Midna, backwards no less as he carefully assessed what was below the snow.

If any grimm were to try and stop them, he would do his best to mow them down with his Twin Furies. Right now, one of his biggest concerns was being attacked by behind, especially seeing Midna's strained state, the last thing they wanted was a tailing Grimm to get the upper hand with the element of surprise, after all.

David sighed. They had woken up another monster, but if they didn't hurry they would lose the thieves trail. Both options didn't seem good to him, but he wasn't about to give up. " I will take that ride on Archane," he said to Lavi, as he wasn't planning on using his semblance just yet. For one, his aura wasn't low and for two, it wasn't built for speed. He hoped that they made it.

He hopped onto the machine, hiding towards the end of the pass.

The upside to trailing so far behind the group was that, apart from one laser shot coming from the dark and snow like the finger of god to flick those two creeps out of existence, the group didn't really where Banshee was. Which meant neither did the grimm they were fighting, with the added bonus of Ella not having to deal with people she had zero reason to trust yet. She wasn't following out of any sense of early-onset camaraderie, she just found something suspicious, and following them instead of heading straight to Valhalla was the best way for her to dissect those suspicions.

The downside to trailing behind everyone was that when the avalanche hit and the worm-grimm plowed through to join it, Ella was well and far away from either of the proffered rides to safety. Their frown deepened as they swung their rifle up briefly to try and line up a shot on the beast. Something that big would need a full power shot, but after a few seconds of trying to line up a good shot Ella huffed and lowered the rifle again. Too deep in the avalanche, she couldn't see the head, and she didn't know enough about whatever this grimm was supposed to be to target a different vital. She glanced back down at-

ಠ_ಠ

The avalanche had crashed into where the girl she just sniped for had been standing. And... she was nowhere to be seen.

...

What a waste of a shot.

Banshee shook her head and took off in a sprint through the snow towards where the rest of the group was running. She wasn't going to outrun the avalanche from this far back though, so her only recourse was to, when the wave of ice and snow was moments from impact, jump. Thankfully, the prosthetics in her legs were really good at jumping, so it was less if she could clear the avalanche, and more a matter of if the snow below would no longer be dangerous by the time she finally came down

As the others rushed past, in one capacity or the other, the only one who remained where he was, was Angus.

He seemed almost calculating, timing the oncoming mass of snow before he finally crouched and leaped upward, gaining height directly up but not enough to clear the oncoming wave. At which point, he flicked out the second part of his plan, the Kurgan transforming into a rounded shield, a barrel sticking out of its center as he spun in midair and pulled the trigger.

The blast flung him higher, the centrifugal force flinging the taciturn would-be-hunter skywards before gravity asserted itself and Angus began to fall to earth.

Shield-first, as he began to surf upon the avalanche.

As he skimmed down the impromptu slope, there was a ripple and then a sudden burst from behind him as a massive Grimm opened its jaws wide to swallow him whole, Angus narrowly avoiding that fate as he pitched forward and wedged the shield between its jaws. With a snarl, he stabbed Headhunter into its face for a wedge as he fired burst after shotgun burst within the mouth, managing five rounds before it sent him flying outward to crash land near the rest, who had managed to escape the snowfall.

The creature roared its challenge, rising to a larger height. As large as a Nevermore, a worm capable of burrowing in the snow it seemed larger than life.

If they wanted to get away or follow the trail, they had to finish it or lure it away.

One way or another.

Ervin thought quickly, trying to figure out a good way to distract that worm... He knew he couldn't take it on on his own, but on the other hand, if he could animate something big enough, it might cause the ground to shake in a manner that would attract the creature's attention.

Carefully, he tried to look around for a big boulder to animated, intending to make it grow arms and legs so it could begin stomping and pounding the ground, in an effort to distract the beast under the ground. However, regardless of if this part of his plan worked, he took a bit of a risk and moved away from the trail, firing upon the creature in the ground at every opportunity he could get with his twin furies. He knew he could loop back to the trail once this creature was well distracted enough, and so... He figured he would try and draw it's attention elsewhere for now.

Ella's high jump reached its apex just as the worm and Angus collided. By the time the other hunter in training was thrown back, she landed with in a spray of white as her metallic legs kicked up a cloud of the loose snow. She took a breath and cracked her neck, before she raised her rifle towards the far off combat between hunter and grimm.

Her short sprint hadn't closed all that much distance, but her eyes were aglow again as she knelt down into the snow to conceal herself and turned the dial on Keening's power source up to the max. Target above ground, all allies- no, but at least all non grimm -outside of the immediate range. Ella had never been and likely never would be a warrior. She didn't have the aura or courage to wade into the endless hordes of grimm that threatened humanity and come out unscathed like her would-be classmates.

But what she was, however, was a hunter in the old sense. There were foul things in the world that were a danger without numbers, through terrible size, frightening strength, or aura twisted to the use of oppression and violence. And be it grimm or man, Ella was very good at killing monsters.

She held her breath, aligned her shot just above the thresher, and pulled the trigger at the same time she started to tilt the rifle downward

The beam split the air and then hopefully beast with a deafening howl as the laser swung downward to slice through the beast like a sword that reached across the valley. If it all worked out, the beam would hopefully slice straight through the width of the beast, decapitating it

She didn't really think much of what she could dish out would do anything to the monster, but it was all she could think of. Rachel's semblance began to manifest - pale violet strands appeared and started to strain against the Grimm, break, and reform. She really had no idea how much if any it slowed it down.

Rachel followed up with Lilac Lash, launching a salvo of rockets followed by a strike or two with the whip itself, but every strike was designed as much to put the creature off balance than anything else.

David was already at a high vantage point when he had seen the monster. He paused and he looked at the monster. After a few minutes, he unnotched his arrow. He aimed it for the monster. God, this was a very dangerous plan to do in the slightest and he hoped it worked.
