YOU DELIGHTFUL ASSHOLE. I WAS EVEN GONNA ADD LIKE TEN LAYERS OF SPOILERS.

But I was afraid the admins would be mad with me for posting or directly linking porn.

:c
You won't get in trouble as long as it's in spoilers, as far as I know.

I am indeed a delightful asshole, thank you for noticing.

I'm about 95% sure it's fine if you just spoiler it and put a warning on it. Adding the extra layer of it being a link rather than embedded into the post was a courtesy on my part really. :P

EDIT: After looking at the rules again I'm not so sure. I'm gonna take the safe route and remove it until I can maybe get a staff ruling on it. Don't wanna get in trouble for a joke.

EDIT2: Redblood said nope, so it's gonna stay gone, lol.

We're an RP forum, not a porn site.
Are you sure? I mean, I've gone over the Libertine section before in roasts. It's um... A lovely place. :ferret:

Ok, just got back from seeing the movie.

Jorick basically already covered everything that I can imagine got Feminists pissed off.
And in my personal opinion, those Feminists are stretching it and outright looking for reasons to be offended.

Note: I'm arguing the feminist reasoning here, not Jorick. I know that he was simply explaining their rationale, not agreeing with it.
  • Being in a romance isn't sexist.
  • Caring about your friends isn't sexist.
  • She wasn't just depressed about being Sterile, that was only part of the bigger issue of being trained to be nothing but a killer. But even then, never being able to have kids? A lot of people would take hard.
  • She wasn't a full time drink server, she seemed to just be there for a few minutes to grab a drink for herself and others (or looking for a chance to flirt with Hulk). I mean really, is getting yourself and friends a drink now sexist too?
  • She was 'kidnapped'. I air quote that because the first Avenger's movie shows she get's herself in hostage situations a lot to get certain info. Whose to say that wasn't what she was doing with Ultron? And even if that wasn't it, she was pretty crafty and clever about it. And wasn't really there for that long anyways, it makes more sense to wait for when your friends break in than to try to sneak out and risk getting caught by Ultron who none of the Avengers could really take on solo.
  • Thor and Iron man bragging about their girl friends isn't sexist... They're Bragging! Showing pride and respect for them. Is respecting and being proud of your loved ones accomplishments now sexist too? Is the Ideal boyfriend honestly one to go "Huh? You're a skilled scientist? I don't care, and I'm not proud of you either!".
  • I honestly don't remember the "jus primae noctis" joke at all. :/
  • A normal scientist having basic human attraction and unable to fight or resist someone that even the avengers have trouble with isn't sexist, it's realistic.
  • Calling names/being angry at someone who was recently trying to kill you isn't sexist... I mean really? Does anyone here not grasp the concept of valuing one's own life?
  • Lastly, I don't read the comics so I have no opinion as to if any hero is 'ruined' or not when compared to those.

Actually, some feminist groups (hopefully not most) really would consider that sexist. These are likely the same Feminist groups that consider gentlemanly mannerisms sexist. Feminists would consider it "objectifying" women to brag about them (according to them, this is like bragging about your car. And women shouldn't be treated like cars).

There was a Primae Noctis joke in there (Stark reaches for the hammer, and says "I won't abuse my power. Just Primae Noctis"). Which I suppose is a little sexist, but it was a joke. He wasn't being serious.

Yell of course feminists (the extreme ones) find it sexist, hell they find fellow feminsits sexist most of the time. :P
I'm talking thing actually being sexist, not what some angry tumblr group chose to be the offensive thing for the day.

Ah, I missed that part. :P
But yea, I remember that scene well enough that to know everything they said was in jest.
Hell they were all drunk off their asses.

Its TONY STARK. it can't be a joke, because that would mean - at some point, relatively speaking - someone else coming out of his mouth WAS NOT a joke. however, since everyhting he says is 100% snark, Primae Noctis CAN'T be a joke.

LOGIC!

also, I would totally be ok with his firm, but fair, rule.

Remember guys:

Just because you dismiss them as SJW's, tumblrinas, or however you like, it doesn't make their argument any less valid.

Some things are over-reactions, yes, and someone earlier said that most of the anger over Widow's development stems from the fact that she's really the only female superhero out there, that has any time to stew over a series of movies. She has a lot to stand for and represent.

Remember, women have had a hard fight to even get the chance to step up to the plate. Our generation is still marked by the older generation: we think like our fathers more than we think we do, and we commit offenses more than we'll admit, or even notice. Hand-waving doesn't make it go away, nor will it make things better.

I don't think Widow's depiction was sexist. There are some things there certainly, but ultimately I think Whedon did a wonderful job writing her and developing her. But you must be willing to listen to the opposing side. Listen to why they're angry to understand the anger.

So far, @Jorick is the only one I've noticed that's practiced that. So high-five to you for that.

Listening =/= Agreeing.

I've listened to the other sides complaints.
But that doesn't mean I'm going to agree with them.
Nor does it mean I'm going to be less vocal or blunt about my disagreement with them.

If you're talking about primae noctis, that's not something to joke about. It is literally the rape of a serf's newly wed wife. Primae Noctis means "First Night" and was a rule when England was ruling over Scotland saying that feudal lords were allowed to take the first night of a woman's marriage, before even her husband can lay with her.

Actually there's zero evidence of jus primas noctis being a real law in Europe at any time. Nothing in old law books, no credible accounts of someone seeing the act pulled off, and no accounts of secret marriages done to avoid this. All of these pieces of evidence can be found in regards to things like the tax lords would levy on a woman's family if she was married off to a man under another lord's rule. Historians have tried to find evidence of this law's supposed existence for decades to no avail, but they've found plenty of fiction and obviously overblown propaganda (fun fact: in French propaganda they also liked to say it was legal for a lord to gut a serf for the sake of using their entrails to warm his feet.

It's a compelling and racy piece of drama, but it just wasn't a real thing in Europe. Some lords were monstrous shits who raped peasant women all the time, but there was never any legal right to the first night.

I'm quoting the alternate line he gave in the trailer. Chill out

No it wasn't.

Trust me, I'm Scottish. We had a lot of weird fucking laws, but that wasn't one of them.

Seriously, dude, Braveheart isn't a historical source.

Because it was enforced only in scotland.
You realize Scotland is part of Europe, yes? It wasn't enforced anywhere in Europe so far as any scholarly research has been able to find. The two biggest places for research, as I understand it, have been France (because it was a real popular concept there, largely thanks to Voltaire making use of it in some of his works) and the entirety of the United Kingdom because it was also a rather popular idea there. Again, you'd expect to find some kind of evidence, as has been done with other odd law practices of antiquity, but there's been nothing to support the existence of the right of the first night.

Seriously, go do some research for yourself if you don't believe me. All the tales that supposedly support it wind up coming back to being propaganda (AKA shit made up to make lords look bad, not factual accounts or evidence) or total fiction (such as the tales of the Scottish King Evenus III who was real big into primae noctis.. except for the fact that he never existed in reality).
